Summary
When William’s father died, he had been so alone. Left with no one to go to and nothing but the clothes on his back, thrown into a system that let him down time and time again, his grief had consumed him; broke him; built him into what he was today. He was better off for it, he knew—if he had never been exposed to how corrupt the world was, he might have gone through life blissfully unaware of it, unwilling to do what needed to be done to fix the broken system—but he still could never help but wonder what it would have been like to have someone who could understand him, who could sooth the bitter rage that filled his bones. William had spent so long fending for himself, he knew loneliness so intimately it came easier than breathing.
Zeke though, he would never be alone. He would have William to turn to when the grief and anger start mixing into one emotion, he would have William to understand him like no other could. All he needed to do now was follow Williams final clue, and they would be together once more, and neither would ever have to be alone ever again.

I lived several lifetimes in those places before returning here and pulling it from my neck."
Nicky's lives and deaths are different. He is unstuck from time - at every death he revives into a different point in his life. Each time he is struck down he wonders, will he awaken to deserts and swords? Will it be gunshots in cities? Or, he was going to — and he still is, just not now. Thanks to the android that's just been assigned as his partner, his evening plans have been cancelled. After all, he doesn't want to look like the guy who hated androids so much that he topped himself, now does he?
Gavin will give it six months, and then he'll do the deed. He swears.
