"Of course it doesn't, I can't have you grow soft on me," she replies instead, not missing a beat. Still, she steals one more quick kiss before Seonghwa gets off from her car in the parking lot of the rink.

For Seonghwa, music is a hurtful reminder of the death of his father - a renowned classical musician - which ripped his whole world apart just a year ago. A past that he can't allow himself to think of. That is, until a boy with silver white hair and sparkling eyes who plays the grand piano in the old store down the pedestrain street makes him cry one day.
For Hongjoong, music is the only escape from his horrible home life. The only dream of a future the world has not reserved for people like him. When one day he sees a boy crying in front of the pinao store he plays at, he has to wonder if the future is really reserved for anyone.

Glancing over his shoulder, Hongjoong tenses in his seat for a moment. Seonghwa is already looking back at him.
The bartender winks from behind the counter with a fresh bronze mug placed right in front of him. He holds Seonghwa’s gaze for a moment and realizes how it doesn’t seem to burn into him as everyone else’s does these days.
Hongjoong turns back around and smiles at his mother, nodding at whatever she has been aimlessly talking about because that is what his father is doing right beside him.
But all he can think is: Goddamnit.
(Or, better days are to come, if only Hongjoong could get to them without fucking everything up along the way).

Summary
Park Seonghwa had been a prisoner at sea for the past two years ever since he was snatched off the streets. When a battle with a rival pirate crew leads to his capture, he is merely moved from one prison to another. He doesn't realize it at first, but this new prison is different. Against everything he knows, he slowly finds himself warming up to the crew members he had sworn to hate.
Park Seonghwa promised himself he would never feel again. Emotions only got people killed.
Captain Kim Hongjoong had never felt an ounce of remorse for anyone outside of his crew. If they weren't with him, they were against him. But when they bring a prisoner on board for information, Hongjoong watches as his crew members warm up to him despite their orders not to engage. As their attachment grows, Hongjoong's hate for the prisoner swells.
Kim Hongjoong promised himself he would protect his crew. Emotions only got people killed.

If only Hongjoong hadn’t developed a massive crush on his new “friend”.

The thing is, Matthew knows Hanbin, and he knows him well -- it would be weird if he didn't, really, given their five-year-long (and counting!) friendship. Matthew knew Hanbin when he was the only trainee at Cube willing to talk to him, despite his practically nonexistent knowledge of the Korean language; he knew Hanbin when he was the Cube trainee with twinkling eyes who promised to look after him; he knew Hanbin when he was the chubby hyung who took him out stargazing; he knew Hanbin when he was passed out on the Cube practice room floors after not eating for days; he knew Hanbin at his worst and at his best and at everything in between. Matthew knows Hanbin.
Matthew isn't convinced that Hanbin is just stressed. Unsurprisingly, it spirals from there.

After a horrifying accident, Hyunjin realizes there's more to the situation. He realizes that he has a TIR- a Traumatic Induced Response. He had powers, from a trauma he couldn't remember happening.
Spending a year mute, Hyunjin wonders if going to college is even worth it anymore. It wasn't until a boy with disarmingly bright eyes sat next to him and rambled his ear off that Hyunjin began to think maybe - just maybe - there was something worth living for.

Summary
Hongjoong just doesn’t come to Seonghwa for comfort. He doesn’t come to any of them, actually. Seonghwa thinks it has something to do with his “duties as leader,” a concept none of the others actually believe in. So Hongjoong openly reaching out to him is definitely something new.
Or: Hongjoong actually comes home for once and Seonghwa sees how much he is struggling.

'I love you too' was on the tip of Hongjoong’s tongue, but the words refused to come out, laying heavily in his mouth. Something about him speaking words so special to someone as precious as Seonghwa didn’t make sense, and so the words forbade themselves from coming out.
seonghwa always comes home, even when hongjoong convinces himself he won't.
