   Summary

   Rome, 1605: A Cardinal desperate to secure his legacy or else lose everything is introduced to a man who is reportedly the most skilled artist alive in Rome, and bemoans the fact that his fate lies in the charcoal-smudged hands of such a miserable creature. But, with tensions building within the Cardinalate, he must find a way to work with the tempestuous and anti-social painter, even as Rome threatens to crumble around them.
