Photobooth

Summary:

Rohan turned over to face Josuke, who was staring off into the side. He tugged on his arm, pointing at a small box in the corner. “What is that?” he asked.

Josuke turned to face him with a grin on his face. “It’s a photobooth! Can we?” He sounded way too excited and he looked just about ready to start bouncing on his feet. “Please?”

Work Text:

The mall wasn’t anywhere near his ideal place to go on a date, so when Josuke volunteered to come along with him to his book signing, he was a little hesitant to agree. What would they do there? Rohan had to stay seated for a few hours and greet his fans… It didn’t exactly scream fun. He guessed they could get some terrible food at the mall and then go window shopping, but that didn’t sound like a good time either. After much begging on the younger man’s part, Rohan finally conceded.

They attended the book signing without much fuzz. Having Josuke around ended up being a little distracting, but, in the end, he actually ended up helping a lot with crowd control. Josuke was adorable, the way he kept running back and forth offering his help to everyone around him warmed Rohan’s heart.

Before they knew it, the time was up and the book signing was finally over. Rohan stretched his arms over his head, letting out a yawn. His shoulders felt pretty stiff and he was absolutely exhausted. Activities like these tended to drain him of all his energy, he wasn't used to being around so many people all at once. It wasn’t anything he couldn’t handle, but it was always a little bit overwhelming.

“Hey, Rohan, how about we go get some food? You must be hungry.” Josuke placed his hand on Rohan’s face, gently caressing his cheek. Josuke’s hand was so soft and warm, Rohan couldn’t help but lean into the touch, closing his eyes and humming in response. “They opened that one sushi place upstairs. We could get that, if you want?”

“Sure, let’s go.” Rohan stood, immediately feeling Josuke’s arms make their way around the waist and pull him closer. “You’re so clingy, Josuke,” he complained, leaning into his embrace. Despite all of his grumbling and protesting, Rohan loved the fact that Josuke was so affectionate. He hadn’t realized how touch starved he’d been until he started dating this romantic fool.

Josuke kissed the top of his head, pulling him even closer against him. “Oh hush, I couldn’t do this while your fans were here.”

Rohan scoffed, leaning up to kiss his cheek. The way Josuke’s cheeks reddened at the small display of affection made Rohan smile. “Cute.” Josuke’s blush spread all the way up to his ears and Rohan couldn’t help the chuckle that escaped his lips. He intertwined their fingers and lead the way towards the food court.

Once they got there, they headed straight to the second floor. The line for the sushi place was ridiculously long, as was to be expected. “Ah, looks like it’ll be a while until we can get some food,” he said, turning over to face Josuke, who was staring off into the side. He tugged on his arm, pointing at a small box in the corner opposite of the shop. “What is that?”

Josuke turned to face him with a grin on his face. “It’s a photobooth! Can we?” He sounded way too excited and he looked just about ready to start bouncing on his feet. “Please?”

Rohan rolled his eyes, glancing over at the sushi place they were meant to go eat at. It would be a long while until they got to eat anything either way, the slight detour wouldn’t really make any difference. A photobooth seemed like it could definitely be fun. It was also a thing most couples did at some point or another, right? He sighed, looking up at Josuke again. “Fine. Let’s do it.”

“Really?!” Josuke didn’t wait for Rohan to answer and ran straight towards the booth, dragging him along. When they were right next to the booth, Josuke fumbled around to find his wallet. Rohan peeked inside, relieved to find no one was currently using the booth. It seemed the camera would take five different pictures of them, each separated by a few seconds.

“Josuke. Stop, I’ll pay.”

Josuke frowned, shaking his head adamantly. “No, no! I just, can’t find a dollar.”

He rolled his eyes, sliding inside the booth and pulling Josuke along with him. Before the younger man could complain again, Rohan slid a dollar into the machine. “Alright, get ready.”

“Rohan!” Josuke exclaimed, a pout on his face. Rohan let out a chuckle, a smirk making its way to his face. Josuke couldn’t hold his ‘hurt’ expression for much longer, and he looked at Rohan with a grin on his face.

The shutter went off and they turned to stare at each other at the noise. “Oh, I thought it’d give a sort of warning before hand,” Josuke commented, then shrugged once he saw a countdown on the screen, “how about a silly one next?”

Josuke grinned once more, crossing his eyes and making bunny ears for Rohan as he stuck his tongue out. After the shot was taken, both of them burst out laughing. “That was so dumb,” Josuke said, as another shutter sound went off.

“Yeah, it really was,” Rohan opened his eyes only to find Josuke staring straight at him. They smiled at each other, soon forgetting exactly where they were and what they were doing. All they could focus on was on each other. Another click went by unheard.

Josuke leaned in, pressing their lips together. Without really thinking it through, Rohan wrapped his arms around Josuke’s neck, pulling him impossibly closer to him. Despite the tight fit, the kiss they shared was wonderful. Josuke’s lips were so soft, so inviting, that Rohan almost wanted this to last forever.

It wasn’t until they heard a soft buzzing sound, that they pulled away from each other. Rohan glanced over at the camera and reached towards the string of pictures. His heart skipped a beat and his face heated up once he noticed the last two pictures. The way they were looking at each other confirmed something that he had been desperately trying to deny. Rohan was in love with Josuke Higashikata.
