Work Text:

It was almost midnight when Razor was finally left alone with Bennett.

Day almost over. Razor thinks and they tighten their grip on Bennett’s hand. Need to hurry. And they huff before pulling on Bennett to walk faster.

“Where are we going exactly?” Bennett asks when he felt the insistent tug on his shoulder. He looks around to notice the increasing lack of trees. A flash of cecilia caught his eye, and that was when he realized that they were heading towards—

“Starsnatch Cliff.” Razor stops walking for a second to look around. Close. They think to themself as they pull on Bennett once again to walk faster. The moon was edging dangerously close to its spot in the sky that usually meant a new day has passed. “For Benny’s birthday.”

Bennett felt his heart skip a beat. He looks away to hide the blush that is undoubtedly staining his cheek. He pulls his arm a bit so Razor’s hand would be holding his hand instead of his wrist.

Razor absently intertwines their fingers together. It always felt better when they did. Despite the leather that makes up their gloves, Razor could swear they feel the warmth that makes up Bennett. A warmth unrelated to pyro. A warmth that is wholly Bennett.

Razor wished he could give the same warmth.

That was why they were doing this, and they need to hurry up before it was too late and Bennett’s birthday ends without Razor having given their gift.

They walked for five more minutes before Razor could finally see the familiar horizon that could only be seen through Starsnatch Cliff.

“Here.” Razor does not let go of Bennett’s hand once they stopped walking.

Bennett didn’t pull away either.

The sight was beautiful. Cecilias freckled the green land with gentle white. The stars shone bright above and below them as the sea reflected the twinkles from the sky.

It was a sight Bennett could never be tired of despite seeing it many times before. He turns to look at his friend with a smile. “What did you bring me here for?” He squeezes their hand tighter.

Razor pulls away to sit down on the grass and pats the space beside them for their friend to sit on. Bennett chuckles as he sits besides them. Their hands once again find each other, and this time they won’t be letting go for a long time.

Razor lies back on the grass, and Bennett follows after them. They watched the stars that dotted the sky in all their bright colors. Razor could see their own constellation in the sky, and they smiled softly.

”Big hat girl told Razor about stars,” They start. Bennett turned to look at them, catching their staring red eyes watching him, and he blushed at the intensity behind them. “She said Razor have a star shape in the sky, and that Benny also have a star shape in the sky.”

Star shape? Bennett wonders what that was until he figures out they meant constellations. The hydromancer, Mona, told him about it once. How everyone had a constellation in the sky that tells of their fate, and she even pointed out which one was his.

”You met Mona? She told me about that too. Mine is called Rota Calamitas, look—.” He points at the spot in the sky where the familiar connection of his stars were. “It’s right there.”

”Razor knows.” And they take his hand into theirs. Bennett blushes again, but he didn’t pull his hand away. Razor moves it to the spot beside his constellation. “That one belongs to Razor. The name is Lupus Minor. It sounds like lupical.”

Bennett felt his eyes widen. My constellation is just beside Razor’s. For some reason the thought made him even more flustered.

”It must be pretty rare to meet your star neighbor,” Bennett jokes. “This is the complete opposite of my luck.”

”Razor is lucky to be by Benny’s side.”

That made Bennett rise to sit on the grass. He turns to look at Razor, his eyes wide with shock. His cheeks gets redder. His fingers squeeze the hands wrapped around his when he sees the tender smile on their lips.

”Like star shapes in sky, Razor wants to be beside Benny forever.”

And Bennett felt his heart skip a beat. He feels Razor tighten their grip on his hand too, as if they never want to let him go. As if they wants me beside them. Well, they do. The thought was enough to make Bennett yearn.

”I promise to be with Benny forever.”

Because if the stars does show their fate, does that mean that it was Bennett’s fate to beside Razor forever? Does it mean Razor would be with Bennett forever?

”The gift from Razor to Benny.” And they rose from the grass to sit too. Razor reached for Bennett’s other hand. “Is that Razor promises to be beside Benny forever like star shapes in the sky because Benny is lupical and Razor never abandons lupical.”

Bennett feels his heart jump to his throat.

”Razor,” He whispers for if he speaks any louder there is sure to be a croak. “I love you.”

Razor’s eyes widen. Love was a word they heard often. Lisa had told them about it once. She said it was a special feeling of a warmth that was not literal. They had wondered how that would be, and she simply chuckled before telling them they would know about it once they feel it. The man with an eyepatch, Kaeya, had spoke to them about the topic too. He spoke of a gesture that Razor can only do to people they love.

Razor is certain they love Bennett.

If Bennett was a boy abandoned even by the world itself, then Razor will be the one thing in his life that would stay by his side forever.

They pull one hand away from Bennett to move it to his nape. He tilts his head in confusion. A question was on the tip of his tongue when Razor leans in and— oh.

Their lips tastes like hashbrown. Bennett absently thinks as he scoots closer to feel more of Razor on his skin. Despite the winter chill of February, he was warm. It was not a warmth because of pyro.

It was a warmth that was wholly Razor.

It could have been a second, but Bennett could swear he felt forever in the moment that Razor captured his first kiss.

”Razor loves Benny.”

As if I needed any more confirmation! Bennett blushes, and his eyes glisten at the shameless onslaught of love that Razor graciously gives him. He smiles and pushes himself on top of them. Tan arms wraps itself around them, silver hair tickle his arms a bit.

Razor wraps their own arms around Bennett. They shift a little so they could look at his face. There was the brightest smile, one fit for a holder of a pyro vision, that Razor has ever seen on Bennett— has ever seen on a person. They tighten their embrace, and he laughs. The stars twinkled above them, their own constellations looking down from the heavens.

Bennett could swear that he could have countless other birthdays after this and this would still be his best birthday ever.
