"Why won't you abandon this foolishness? There is no escape, Sakura. There is only death."
Sakura stubbornly gripped her spear and smiled at him. She wonders if her father had paid enough attention to realize that if there is someone who can stop her, it's Sasuke.
"I'm sorry darling, my family is waiting for me," she replied. Fire burned in his eyes as he drew Kusanagi, lightning crackling along the blade as he pointed it towards her heart.
"Ten times, twenty times, fifty, a hundred, a thousand. It doesn't matter how many tries you take, Sakura. You know I'm not only doing this because Lord Hades commanded me to."
Her heart grew heavy at his words, and her eyes fell to her feet. What was believed impossible to exist in the Underworld bloomed because of them. Growing up together, it was inevitable for love to spring.
She looked at him again, his eyes burning red with fury and vengeance and love, and wondered if the Fates had foretold this. If the Fates told her father she would one day try to escape. If the Fates determined she would fail... because of her love for this man.
Sakura shook her head. It was pointless to wonder what the stars have in store for her. She didn't need the List of Fates—she will break out of the Underworld.
She takes a breath. "I'm sorry, Sasuke. My love for you-"
"Don't be annoying, Sakura." he cut her off. "Olympus calls, and you answer. Let's get this over with."
She immediately darted to him, calling forth Ares' vortexes of pain. She impaled him twice before flitting away.
The agony on his face was palpable as he activated his seal, gruesome wings sprouting from behind him. He quickly dived to her, plunging his blade to her heart. She merely aimed her Cast at him, dealing 5 more blows to his chest.
She saw Dionysus' poison weakening him, but she trapped him in another vortex, her spear boring numerous holes on his body.
She gave him agony: strike after strike, punch after punch, using every single blessing the gods gifted her. He gave them back in kind: snakes and witches and hellfire.
She wasn't going to last much longer. Death had begun coiling around her, and she could already smell the pool of blood she will be reborn from. But Death has its clutches on Sasuke too, and he knows it.
Maybe their love is like this: when Sakura dies by his hand, he weeps and takes his own damned life immediately after, and they can wake up in her father's house together. Or when she succeeds and deals the final blow to his heart, he quietly stays in the shadows and slays her father's minions, unafraid of the agonizing wrath the Lord of the Underworld will unleash upon him.
Tears of blood flowed down Sakura's cheeks. They were kneeling across from each other, and Sasuke knows this is the last time he'll see her. Seventy-seven tries. He has never been one to dwell on the Olympians, but he saw them in her eyes as they fought. Aphrodite, Ares, Artemis, Athena, Demeter, Dionysus. The power of the gods was unmistakable, and he knew why she has yet to call upon her uncles.
Striking him down with their combined power is a clear message to her father. I have cut all my ties to this place, and it is your brothers who gave me my freedom.
He threw down Kusanagi as she looked up to the heavens. His eyes stayed on her face as he felt Death's grip shackle him.
He wheezed. "Sakura. Remember."
The sound of booming thunder and roaring waves filled the room.
Sasuke was ready. He opened his arms for their crushing blow. "My love for you is-"
He barely saw Zeus and Poseidon beside her when everything went dark, waves of blood engulfing him.
Sakura stood up to wipe the blood off her spear.
"Undying," she said to the empty room, then walked away.
