By the time the pack of almonds reached the back of the van, Sunoo had already munched down the last piece. Jay squawks indignantly, genuine offense softened by his pout. Sunoo just gives him a sheepish smile and a peace sign, wordless apology. Jay looks away, out the window, muttering about Sunoo being greedy but not really meaning any of it.
“It's just almonds.” Sunghoon whispers next to him, eyes still glued to his phone and pointedly ignoring the familiar ruckus going on in the front seats of Sunoo and Niki arguing for the last bottled water while Heeseung plays referee.
“Jake said it tasted good,” Jay whispers back, arguing for the heck of it, to prolong their little exchange. Sunghoon has been too quiet for most of the trip, not participating in the usual banter that transpires in the vehicle on an almost daily basis that Jay’s starting to think something's up. What's wrong lies in the cadences of his words.
“It does.” Sunghoon smiles, soft on the edges, but Jay knows him well enough to catch the teasing lilt in his tone. At least it answers his question.
“Greedy gremlins.” Jay hisses before slumping back in his seat. The chuckle he hears from Sunghoon is light and mirthful. Jay could never bring himself to actually be mad at him.
When they reach the dorms, it's quiet. The energy’s almost completely sucked out of their bodies, exhaustion and the need to flop down a flat surface and sleep doubled by the time Jungwon managed to unlock the door.
Jay feels a tug on his wrist, warm fingers loosely hovering over his pulse. It's a bit funny, really, how he doesn't need to look to know it's Sunghoon.
“What—”
“Just follow me.” And that's how Jay finds himself with his back pressed against the bathroom door, breath hitching at the way Sunghoon licks the roof of his mouth. It's gentle, always gentle , but purposeful in its entirety. Sunghoon’s got a hand on his nape, holding him in place. Jay feels like dissolving, hands fisting Sunghoon’s shirt just in case his knees give up on him like how they tend to do whenever Sunghoon’s mouth is on him. They've done this countless times before, but kissing Sunghoon is always something he looks forward to, like a sunflower to the sun with each passing day.
There's something sweet beyond the gesture, and it has Jay pressing his lips harder against Sunghoon’s. He chases the taste with his tongue, opens his mouth more like he couldn't get enough of it. He feels Sunghoon smile into the kiss, the smug bastard.
“You wanted to know how the almonds tasted.” The pads of Sunghoon’s fingers trace Jay’s bottom lip, and he opens his mouth instinctively, mind fuzzy but trying to make sense of what Sunghoon just said. When he catches on, he chuckles, breath fanning on Sunghoon cheeks. Of course he’d pull off something like this. He may not be as dramatic or grand with his gestures like Jay, but can be surprising if he wants to.
“Also, you look good in that shirt—in white shirts, generally. Been thinking about kissing you since you put it on.” Sunghoon whispers the little confession with a kiss to his cheek, featherlight, but sending sparks crawling to his skin nonetheless.
And their shared bathroom really isn’t the best place for Jay to swoon, but whatever.
“Jake was right.” He mirrors Sunghoon’s grin, incredibly fond.
