The blog is still active and growing with new material, despite my Masters Degree's best efforts to prevent it ;D

Songs by Decade: 1910s

These are songs released between 1910 and 1919, and the list is part of an ever-expanding set of lists featuring songs that would likely have been familiar to Steve before he went into the ice.

Depending on whether you are going my MCU canon or comic canon, Steve was born in 1918 or 1920 respectively. As such the majority if of all the music from this period pre-dates Steve and Bucky. However, this does not necessarily mean that it would not have been familiar to them. The music of this decade would very likely have bled over into the 1920s and later decade to some extent, the same way music of decades before your own birth are still listened to. Many of these songs also reappear in later decades in cover versions, or in some cases as revivals.

All of the songs on this and the other song lists are collected into a Spotify playlist called Steve Rogers. The list will continue to be updates as new songs are added to the playlist — suggestions are always welcome.

Songs by Decade: 1940s

These are songs released between 1940 and 1945. The list is part of an ever-expanding set of lists featuring songs that would likely have been familiar to Steve before he went into the ice.

During this period Steve was aged between 22 and 27 (by MCU, or between 20 and 25 by comic canon), this covers his early adulthood — both pre-war and during the war. This list features songs released between January and April 1945 — the accessibility of radios meant that new songs quickly reached wide audiences, including soldiers during WWII. I have chosen to cut off the date for songs at April 1, 1945, based on the suggestion of marvel.wikia.com that the events leading to Steve’s freezing occurred on or shortly before April 18, 1945. This makes sense to me, as suggestion has been that it happened before some of the notable events at the end of the war, such as Hitler’s suicide at the end of April. To be safe you may choose to disregard the song released in 1945 entirely — there are no solid facts to support a date as far as I have found, so you can use your best judgement.

Songs released from April 1945 can be found in the next post: Songs from Post-WWII: 1940s.

All of the songs on this and the other song lists are collected into a Spotify playlist called Steve Rogers. The list will continue to be updated as new songs are added to the playlist — suggestions are always welcome.

Chapter 5: Songs from Post-WWII: 1940s

Chapter Text

Songs from Post-WWII: 1940s

This is a continuation of an ever-expanding set of lists featuring songs from the 1910s to the early 1940s. Whereas the songs from these previous lists would likely have been familiar to Steve before he went into the ice, the songs on this list were released while he was frozen — and thus would be new to Steve when he wakes in the 21st century*.

The previous list leaves off at the end of March 1945, with songs that would have likely been accessible to Steve and other soldiers during WWII. I have chosen to cut off the date for songs on the previous list at April 1, 1945, based on the suggestion of marvel.wikia.com that the events leading to Steve’s freezing occurred on or shortly before April 18, 1945. This makes sense to me, as suggestion has been that it happened before some of the notable events at the end of the war, such as Hitler’s suicide at the end of April.

All of the songs in this and the later lists are collected into a Spotify playlist called Steve Rogers Refresher. The list will continue to be updated as new songs are added to the playlist — suggestions are always welcome.
