Work Text:
Humid sun invaded the small space of grey seated rows, loud chatter of many excited people, desperate for a getaway from their likely 9-5 jobs and stress. On the other hand, a small brunet with chocolate eyes couldn’t contain the hundreds of emotions he felt flying through his head.
“Ok ok, deep breaths George. You got this” George repeated out loud, probably getting strange, confused looks from the passengers around him, but he didn’t care. Somewhere in the airport built next to him was a tall blonde, going by the name of Dream. Long story short, George was about to meet his best friend of 5 years today.
So long overdue, but a particular virus named Covid interrupted their plans of last year making the UK enforce a national travel ban. Of course, this was for the safety of the citizens, but George felt an overwhelming amount of sadness when the news was announced.
He specifically remembers the night, every event that happened… And the most embarrassing was that George sobbed to Dream that night, over the fact their summer plans would be cancelled till God knows when. Dream was also very upset about this but did all he could to be there for his best friend.
“It’s going to be okay George, I promise. I love you.”
Calling the pair best friends was definitely an understatement, when they both knew it was more. Endless flirting and teasing on streams and off, making their friends jealous of the bond they both shared.
And if this wasn’t enough for you to believe it was more than just a bantered friendship, The two boys even admitted to one another their feelings… Yet… They still weren’t together.
This confused George a lot.
Maybe it was because the two hadn’t met in real life?
Maybe Dream lied that night?
Was Dream not ready?
Was George not good enough?
Both Dream and George carried on with their online careers, never speaking of that moment on call a couple months back. George was actually kind of happy that this didn’t affect their “bond”, the flirting still continued on as normal.
Except now the embarrassing pool of butterflies always came out when Dream even spoke a word to George. As he was now still sat on the window seat of the parked plane, George wondered how he would feel once seeing the gorgeous blonde. Well, he hadn’t actually ever seen Dream’s face, but he knew he was gorgeous. On the nights where George found himself alone and not in a call, you could often find him scrolling through the mass amounts of DNF fanart that had been made and perfectly drawn. Creepy right.
George turned to the left to see the airport building; crowds of people littered the large area of marbled floors. What a surreal world he lived in, he was finally where he wanted to be. Well, not true… Dream’s arms seemed to be the most comforting place right now, but that’s beside the point.
By now most of the people on the plane had left, leaving only a few waiting. George decided it was best to wait for everyone else to get their bags before he started moving.
A loud ping rang through the blue phone of his, this reminded him that he now had service. Now feeling an immense amount of excitement run through his veins, George unlocked his phone and immediately tapped to Dream’s contact in the phone app. Of course Dream was favourited, and also labelled as emergency number… Although he wasn’t sure what Dream could do 4000 miles away if George was ever in trouble.
The ringing noise rang out for a few seconds before it stopped, alerting George that the other had accepted the call. “Hey Georgie.” The small nickname made George blush a rosy pink, but Dream would never know that.
“Hey Dream, Uhh I just landed.” He said nervously, a tiny smile evident in his voice as he spoke.
“I’m waiting right here George whenever you’re ready.”
“How am I meant to even know it’s you?” George spoke through the phone, now starting to get up and grab the bag he brought with him on the plane. He opened the overhead compartment and grabbed his bag before making his way towards the front of the plane, giving his passport to the young women to check before walking out.
“I’ll find you George, maybe I just want to kidnap you or something. Who knows.” Dream smirked.
Dream! Nothing is stopping me from getting on another plane back to England right now.” George threatened.
“You wouldn’t do that, both me and you both know that.” Dream said softly.
“Your right.” George sighed. “I would never miss an opportunity to meet my best friend of 5 years.”
“I would say we are much more that just best friends George would you not?” This caused George to freeze on the spot, bag hung loosely on his right shoulder.
“S-stop.” A weak squeak came from George’s mouth, Dream on the other hand just chuckled at him.
A few minutes of silence went by before George made it through to baggage claim, scanning along the oval of bags and suitcases carried along the moving belt. George’s suitcase was obviously a royal blue colour, as that was the only colour he could really see properly. He could see yellow too, but blue was definitely his favourite colour.
“Wait.” Dream’s voice echoed through the phone. “Is that you?!” Dream said excited, this caused George to stop what he was doing and turn around conscious that someone may or may not be watching his every move.
“Oh my gosh it is you!” Was the reply afterwards, George still spinning in a full circle not being able to see anyone that slightly resembled Dream. He blamed this on the colour blindness.
“I can’t see you Dream.” He still scanned over the many of people that crowded the large room.
“What do you mean I’m literally walking to you right now.” George sighed, nervousness settling in his whole body not caring about his suitcase in this moment.
George was just about to turn around again, looking to the left of him he practically jumped out of his skin. His phone lost contact with his skin while it fell to the floor, George letting out a scared gasp of terror.
“Oh, my fucking god Dream!?” George slightly questioned, but he knew it was him when he heard the kettle like wheezes.
George didn’t get to see Dream’s face fully for the first few seconds, but when he did it was like pure heaven. Long blonde locked covered his forehead, tanned skin combined with a galaxy of brown freckles and bright honey eyes like the sun.
George was literally taken away, the air leaving his lungs completely. I mean, he knew Dream was beautiful but not THIS beautiful. A few seconds later George snapped out of his lungful gaze, crashing himself into the arms of the other. Even though only being here for a few seconds it already felt like home.
Dream’s arms immediately wrapped around the shorter body, like he was protecting it with his life. This small act made George feel safe, like nothing could hurt him while he was here. Dream was warm, very warm.
“Hi.” George whispered.
“Hey.” Dream whispered back, the two could already tell this was going to be one hell of an adventure.
Yeah… They definitely weren’t just friends.
