The rainy season had always been Marie’s favorite growing up. She’d run around her backyard, allowing each drop to fall on her. Every time it rained, she liked to imagine she was somewhere else, traveling the world. A rainforest, a waterfall, a beach. Her imagination ran wild.
So, of course, when she noticed it had started raining outside, she immediately ran out into it. Her and Natus were in a small office building in a city quite far from their lab. They had been following leads on Jirachi’s cave for about a week now, and both of them had grown fairly tired. ‘This is exactly what we needed’ she thought.
The blonde girl felt the droplets as soon as she exited the building, feeling each light tap as it hit her face and arms. She debated bringing out her Lycanroc, who typically loved the rain. She decided on letting him out, figuring that it would be more fun to run around with someone else.
“Get inside, you’re gonna get sick like that!” A voice called out. Marie smiled before turning to the building she had run out from. Standing at the doorway, stood her partner, arms crossed as she leaned against the doorway.
“I can handle a little cold. A few sniffles never hurt anyone. Plus, the rain is so much fun!”
“You are a mess.” The Lycanroc had trotted over to Natus, and Marie watched as her friend crouched down to pet it. (“My rockruff-” “our rockruff” “we are not co-parenting my pokemon” “too late”)
“A mess that knows how to have fun. Come on, we’ve been working hard for a while now, take a couple minutes to just let loose,” Marie held her hand out to her friend, not really expecting her to take it. She knew how much the girl appreciated cleanliness, often cleaning up after her at the end of the day. The line ‘you are a mess’ was one she heard at least once a day.
So, of course she was surprised when she saw Natus’ hand come up from the dog and rest on her own. The girl came out from the cover of the building, flinching as droplets of water hit her nose. Marie smiled at the sight, it was like she was watching her mom’s Jolteon whenever it rained out. No matter how much it had gone outside in the rain, the electric pokemon was always surprised at the droplets.
An idea sparked in the mischievous girl’s mind, as she quickly scanned the streets for something. She finally found what she was looking for just down the street from them, a fairly large puddle that rippled with each drop of rain.
She gripped her friend’s hand, dragging her along as she ran down the street. A small “Hey” escaped the girl’s mouth as she was dragged by the blonde, though she didn’t stop her. When they reached the puddle, Marie jumped into it, causing a giant splash that had soaked herself and her friend. She watched Natus quickly look at her shoes, currently drenched due to the puddle. The girl had tried to shake off the water from her neat clothes, but it ultimately failed (it was still raining, of course you’re not going to stay dry) “These are gonna be soaked for a while.”
The Lycanroc dashed over to them, looking up to Natus and trying to copy her motions, shaking off the water from his fur. Marie let out a small laugh as the water had hit both her and Natus.
“They might dry off by the time we get to our next destination. Speaking of, where is it?”
“Next town over, someone there claims to have been to Jirachi’s cave.”
Marie smiled, dropping her friend’s hand. She quickly took off in a run, dashing through other puddles of water and past many onlookers who were safe under umbrellas. “It’s a lot more fun to run in the rain! Plus I don’t want Staraptor to fly in a storm! I’ll race you to the next town.”
“I’m not racing you in the rain,” her friend, despite saying that, was running closely behind her, Lycanroc right beside her.
Marie stopped in her tracks, looking over her shoulder. “That’s just cause you know you’re gonna lose.” She stuck out her tongue.
“Alright, coward. You’re about to see what I can do.” The heiress's pace quickened into a sprint, fully ready to win this race.

For a period of time, Natus had liked the rain. She had enjoyed seeing her partner run around in it, sometimes with her pokemon. She liked when Marie had dragged her into it, even if her shoes were wet for the days that followed. Though, the cold that came the next day she could do without.
So, when she stepped out of the pokemon center and had been met with the sprinkles of an upcoming storm, she had been met with those fond memories once again. She stepped into it more, allowing each drop to fall on her.
“Miss, you’ll catch a cold if you’re in the rain like that,” a voice said, interrupting Natus’s thoughts. Natus turned to see her assistant, who was already pulling an umbrella out of her backpack.
Natus used to like the rain, but now, it was more of a bother than anything else.
