Work Text:
His fishing rod loosely gripped in his hands, Linhardt sits on the end of the jetty, staring down at Garreg Mach Monastery’s fishing pond. The water reflects the clear blue sky, the surface sparkling so much he cannot see the fish swimming beneath, but the occasional nibble on the end of the line proves the fish are there. No fish have taken a proper bite yet, but Linhardt doesn’t care; catching fish is never as important as the experience of fishing, at least for him.
When a pair of feet step onto the jetty, sending vibrations through the wood, Linhardt turns his head. Ashe walks towards him, a beautiful smile on his face and small paper bag in each hand.
Linhardt smirks and turns his head back to the water. “Hello again, Ashe.”
Behind him, Ashe laughs softly. “I said I’d be back in five minutes,” he says, darting forwards to join Linhardt at the end of the jetty. “Did you miss me?”
“Oh, more than you could possibly imagine,” Linhardt says, voice thick with sarcasm, and he rolls his eyes when Ashe sits down beside him and presses a quick kiss to his cheek. “Fool,” he mutters, but he is unable to prevent a fond smile creeping onto his face.
“Here, look what I’ve got,” Ashe says, cheeks a bit red from kissing him in public, and he passes Linhardt one of the bags.
Linhardt studies it, puzzled. “I thought you were going to the kitchens.”
“I was, but I bumped into Mercedes and Annette,” his boyfriend explains, opening the bag in his hands. Linhardt peers inside, spying a collection of small, beautifully made chocolates. “I think they’d just been cooking, because they both had a lot of bags and they jumped at the chance to give me these. Have you ever had any of their homemade sweets?”
“Not to my knowledge,” Linhardt says, opening his own bag; these sweets are bright pink and dusted with sugar, and he finds his mouth watering.
“Oh, they are delicious,” Ashe says. “Much better than anything in the kitchens. And, well… having their homemade sweets is a perfect way to settle into the Blue Lions House,” he adds, smiling. “So, please, try one.”
Linhardt rolls his eyes, but pops a sweet into his mouth. His eyes widen at the overwhelming sweetness, and Ashe laughs.
“How is it?”
“…Delicious,” he says, smiling back.
