Chapter 1: All by yourself, sitting alone

Chapter Text

A deep breath in.

An exhale in winter.

It’s another morning.

Dream slowly opened his eyes staring at the tapestry on his ceiling. He brings his hands to his eyes attempting to rub the sleep away. He turns his head to check the clock seeing he’ll be late for class soon.

He moves so his feet are touching the floor. He stretches his body out before yawning. He moves over and exits his room. He walks toward the room at the end of the hallway.

He clears his throat quietly before knocking. Two knocks and then three. It was a signature knock Dream and Tommy made to know it was each other at the door.

Tommy opens the door and Dream is met with bed head. Dream snickers, “Good morning sleepy head.” he smiles. Tommy grumbles as he closes his door. Dream rolls his eyes before moving to his room.

He takes off his shirt being welcomed by bruises. He sighs before putting on a blue long sleeve shirt and jeans with some vans.

He plays with his hair before grabbing his bag and running our his room. “Tommy come on!” he calls out. Tommy walks out wearing a beige long sleeve shirt with jeans and some converse shoes.

They both gently walk downstairs to see their father on the couch asleep while their mother sits at the table drinking a beer. Dream bites his lip, “Um were leaving now by mom.” He tells her. No response.

Dream just drags Tommy along before leaving the house. “I didn’t get any breakfast.” Tommy complains. “There’s always lunch.” Dream tells him.

The two start to walk along the side wall as Dream notices Tommy shivering a bit. He frowns and puts an arm around him. “Why can’t they just buy us coats? It’s snowing out here for goodness sakes!” Tommy yells. “I promise once I make enough money I’ll buy us coats for Christmas.” Dream tells him.

Tommy nods as they arrive at school. “Just don’t act sad in front of everyone.” Dream whispers to him before pulling up his mask as they walk into the school.

Luckily the school is warm so the two bothers let out a breath of relief as they walk off to their lockers. “Dream!” George calls out. Dream snickers as they hug him. “You never answered our message about Christmas!” Sapnap told him. Dream froze, “Oh uh I’ll check it when I get home.” He tells them.

They nod before talking on about the Christmas party. “I mean everyone is going you two have to come!” George exclaimed.

Dream bit the inside of his cheek. “Yeah um we’ll have to see.” Tommy suddenly said. Dream nodded.

Sapnap looked between the two before nodding, “Alright well I hope you guys can come!” He smiles.

The bell rings and everyone waved goodbye as they head to their classes.

School goes on normal. Dream not being able to paying attention and just tapping his foot or drawing in his notebook.

Soon the bell rang and everyone walked towards the cafeteria. Dream soon found his group and sat down next to Tommy who was chatting away with Ranboo and Tubbo.

Dream took out a sandwich he packed as he started to eat while George and Sapnap talked to Wilbur about Christmas.

“Dream are you okay?” Sapnap asked. Dream nodded quickly, “Just zoning out.” He giggled listening in to their conversation as he continued to eat.

The Christmas party was something that happened yearly. It used to be something Dream and Tommy would be excited for until their parents got more aggressive as they aged. And would have to hide their bruises and cuts before attending to not worry their friends.

Soon the bell rang and everyone packed up before heading off to their class.

The day was over.

Dream dreaded this part.

They waved goodbye to their friends quickly as they walked home. “How is Ranboo, Tubbo, and your project coming along?” Dream asked pulling his sleeves down. “It’s going okay but I haven’t had much time to work on it with them.” Tommy answered looking down.

Dream nodded before they arrived. The two looked at the house a little scared knowing they were late.

Dream sighed as he walked up to the door opening it. The tv was on playing a football match as their father sat on the chair drinking a beer yelling at it. <

Their mother had the window opened smoking a cigarette before she walked to them. “You are five minutes late.” She told them locking the door. “I’m sorry ma’am we were packing out stuff and had to talk to our teachers.” Dream explained.

“I don’t want any excuses!” She yelled causing the two to jump. She scoffed and walked off. The two walked to their father. “Okay sir we have gotten an A on our test.” Tommy told the man.

He looked up at the two and stood up towering them. “That’s what I want to hear!” He grinned. Dream felt sick. “I only want to see A’s.” He told them in a low voice that made their skin crawl.

They nodded. “Good.” He said before sitting down. This was how it was. This is how it’s always been.

“No dinner for you two.” Their mother told them. “You're lucky I don’t beat you two right now.” She laughed sending chills down them both. “But I can!” Their father laughed out taking a swig of his beer.

“We’ve been good though.” Dream told them. “You speak when I tell you to!” Their father yelled. “Now go away and study.”

The two walked upstairs as they went into Dream’s room. Dream exhaled in relief, “Okay show me your homework.” Dream smiled. Tommy nodded before opening his binder as the two worked through homework quietly.

And to Dream’s knowledge it’s how it’s always going to be.

Chapter Text

Just another morning.

Dream opened his eyes yawning. He moved over as his phone started to ring. “Hello?” He said in a tired voice. “Dude! Wake up! Sapnap decided to pick everyone up for carpool today!” George yelled.

Dream jumped up. “W-Why?” Dream asked. “He just got this car and he decided to start picking everyone up! It’s perfect!” George laughed, “We’ll be there in five!”

Dream heard the beeping noise of the phone hanging up as he groaned. He slipped on a grey sweatshirt with some dark blue sweatpants.

He ran over and knocked on Tommy’s door. “Tommy! Wake up Sapnap will be here soon!” He yelled before rushing to brush his teeth.

Tommy soon walked out yawning with a long sleeve baseball shirt on with jeans. They both stood in the bathroom brushing their teeth laughing at stupid jokes before both finishing and running to their rooms.

Dream put his note books into his bag not even noticing he dropped a piece of paper out of it.

They both put on their shoes before walking slowly down the stairs. “Um Mom Sapnap is picking us up.” Dream told the woman.

Again she was just smoking as their father took a swig of alcohol he was awake for once. He stood up and the two boys shrunk. “Don’t be late again.” He told them moving over to the couch again.

Dream grabbed Tommy before anything else happened as they left. They both exited the small house letting out some visible breaths.

They started to walk as some snow fell down shivering. Soon a car pulled up which was surprisingly big. “Dude you two should put on some jackets it’s freezing outside.” Sapnap suggested.

Dream just nodded opening the door and getting in with Tommy. George turned up the radio which played some Christmas music as Dream looked around to see everyone.

It was just Sapnap, George, Ranboo, Tubbo, Bad, Wilbur, And Techno. Everyone smiled singing to the songs.

Tommy soon joined in and Dream just smiled looking out the window listening to his friends jokingly sing.

Soon they pulled up to the building and everyone got out. Dream took another deep breath in as he walked inside.

“Phil is cool so we can definitely have a Christmas party at my house!” Wilbur explains. “Your dad is awesome.” Sapnap told him as they continued planning.

Dream grabbed his notebook and closed his locker as the bell rang. They all departed to their certain classes and Dream walked into his own.

“Good morning class.” His teacher said sitting in her chair. “Hey Miss Puffy.” Dream smiled waving to the woman.

“Hey Dream.” She responded before writing back into her book. Dream sat in his chair before immediately starting to draw in his notebook.

Miss Puffy closed the door as the bell rang before starting to write down on the board. Dream just sat listening to her and attempting to take notes. Miss Puffy was his favorite teacher she would always be kind to him, one day when he came in with a busted lip she patched it up (after asking many questions but he just told her he tripped) and let him relax.

After a while the bell rang and kids immediately got up. “Dream I wanted to speak to you.” Puffy called out. Dream nodded bitting his nails as he walked up to her desk.

“Did I do something wrong?” He asked. “Oh no um I just wanted to ask you if you and Tommy were okay?” She asked.

“Why do you ask?” Dream asked keeping the panic out of his voice. “Well it’s very cold outside and it’s going to be snowing a lot before winter break and I always see you two never having jackets and cold.” She told him.

“We’re okay! We just can’t really afford jackets.” He informed her. She just hummed not convinced, “Go off to class heres a note.” She told him.

He nodded grabbing it before leaving the room.

Soon after a couple more classes he made it to math. This teacher was not the best. But Dream couldn’t complain.

Dream sat into his seat and watched as the door closed. As the teacher started to talk about math Dream just lost interest.

He bounced his leg up and down drawing. “Dream.” The teacher said. The whole class turned to look at the boy. “Um yes sir?”

“What have I just said?” He asked angrily.

“I’m sorry I wasn’t paying attention.”

“I didn’t think you were.”

The class snickered and Dream felt small as the teacher continued to teach.

He was very strong in math so jotting down notes was difficult.

“Alright everyone I want you all to give me your homework.” The teacher told them.

The sounds of bags unzipping and papers shuffling filled Dream’s ears but were soon blocked out by his heart beating.

He left his homework at home.

Dream gulped before walking up to his teacher. “Um s-sir.”

“Stop stuttering and just spit it out.” He crossed his arms. “I forgot my um work at h-home.”

The room started to feel stuffy.

“Dream I’m sorry but the due date was today and I don’t accept anything after.” He told him.

“Please I’ll turn it in tomorrow! I’m almost done with it and I just dropped it out of my bag!”

“Dream no. You get an automatic F.”

Dream’s heart started to beat quickly as the bell rang. He immediately walked out the class and ran to the bathroom.

He needed to calm down. His breathing picked up as he held onto the door. He knew his dad was going to be angry and he couldn’t do anything.

Someone walked into the bathroom and knocked onto his stall. “I-I’m in here.” He mumbled. “Dream?” Tommy asked.

He opened the stall and Tommy immediately hugged him. “Bad saw you run to the bathroom and sent me to check up on you! What’s wrong Big man?” He asked.

“I forgot my fucking homework!” He cried. He could see Tommy tense up, “The teacher will let you turn it in r-right?” He asked.

Dream shook his head. “Tommy I’m dead! He gave me an F! And if he gets mad at me he will get mad at you!” Dream explained.

Tommy took in a sharp breath. “So we’re basically fucked.” He mumbled. “I-I’m so sorry.” Dream cried. “Dream! When I got an F for not studying you told me it wasn’t my fault and I’m here to tell you it isn’t yours either!” Tommy told him holding onto his shoulders.

Dream nodded as the bell rang. Dream walked out the stall and washed his face and put back on his mask and walked out with Tommy.

“Um I’ll get our lunch.” Tommy told him opening his locker before grabbing two bags.

“Boys, everyone is in the lunch room.” Puffy Told them. “Sorry Puffy we were just um getting our lunch.” Tommy said.

“Alright it’s fine just go along now don’t miss lunch.” Puffy smiled. She watched them with concern as they walked to the cafeteria.

They walked in and Dream was immediately welcomed with the loud noises of the cafeteria. The talking, the sounds of cooking, and the sounds of pots and pans.

“Are you okay? We can go eat somewhere more quieter.” Tommy asked him. “Y-Yeah I think I’ll be okay.” Dream said fidgeting with his sweatshirt.

They walked over to their table and sat next to their group. “Hey are you guys okay? Niki asked.

Tommy just nodded, “Yeah we just needed to get our lunch.” He smiled.

Dream watched as they started to talk. He attempted to keep himself together but soon he just couldn’t.

He covered his ears trying to block out the noises but things we’re getting loud. “I-I’m going to um.” He didn’t finish before grabbing his lunch and leaving. Tommy was close to follow.

Sapnap watched them leave with a frown of worry.

Dream walked into Puffy‘s class taking off his mask. “Hey Miss Puffy, can we eat in here?” Tommy asked wrapping his arm around Dreams. “Um yeah!” She smiled.

The two boys walked over to some seats and moved them close together as they started to eat whispering to each other.

Puffy watched them with a sad smile before returning to her work.

The day continued and soon it was over. And dread washed over Dream and Tommy.

His teacher already sent an email to Dreams Mother so there was no avoiding what would come next.

Dream walked out with Tommy as they both sadly got into Sapnap’s car. “Hey are you two okay?” He asked.

Dream nodded as Tommy placed his hand into his, both shaking a little.

“Alright.” He sighed starting the car before Christmas music started to play. The others started to sing again all laughing as Dream just stared out his window.

They arrived at their house and Dream waved as they got out the car their hands still intertwined. The car drove off as the music got quieter and quieter.

They slowly walked as the presence of the house got scarier and scarier.

They opened the door and walked inside.

“Boys!” Their father yelled. “We need to talk…”

Chapter Text

Dream and Tommy sat on the couch watching as their parents yelled at them about good grades, “You’ve failed us once again you little brats!” His mother yelled grabbing Dream by his hair and throwing him to the ground.

“I’m sorry! I was rushing!” Dream explained. His mother just scoffed dragging him along the floor.

“We we’re just rushing to get out of the house before Sapnap arrived! We didn’t know his homework would fall out!” Tommy tried.

He was stopped by a familiar sting on his cheek, his head moved back to look at his mother who was practically steaming with anger. “That doesn’t matter!” She yelled.

Tommy nodded rubbing his cheek before his father dragged him to the floor as well. “You two have been a pain in the ass for so long!” Their father yelled.

The two just nodded agreeing with that they told them. “I’ll teach you about good grades.” Their mother said dragging Dream to the basement.

Tommy cried out for him as Dream just walked down before the door closed.

Dream walked down standing watching his mother curse. He flinched when she got too close and she would get even more angry. Soon he was on the floor touching his nose from the punch he just received. “You should’ve turned your work in!” She yelled kicking him as he cried.

“I-I just forgot!”

“That doesn’t cut it!”

He sniffled as she walked over lighting a cigarette and opening a window.

Tommy hugged his knees as his father drank from the bottle. “You should’ve helped your brother.” He told him. Tommy nodded listening to him closely. “Now you hear him? He’s getting hurt because you didn’t teach him how he was wrong.” He scoffed.

Tommy shut his eyes feeling his hair being tugged, “Now listen to him.” He spat the smell of alcohol stung his nose. Tommy nodded again tears beginning to form in his eyes.

His father laughed as he sat back down as Dream’s screams and pleads filled the house, “Music to my ears.” His father smiled.

Tommy just shook covering his own ears.

Dream sniffled feeling the blood trickle down his nose. “Oh honey, I know you didn’t mean to forget your work.” She said hugging him. Dream fell into the touch immediately closing his eyes shaking.

“Clean this mess up my love.” She told him. He nodded as she walked up the stairs. He began to clean up the blood on the floors before waking upstairs as well.

He walked to his bathroom washing off his face already seeing bruises forming. “I-I’ll help you hide them tomorrow.” Tommy told him standing by the door.

Dream nodded standing there before leaving the bathroom. “Boy’s dinner!” Their mother called. The two made their way downstairs sitting down on the floor as their father laughed at the TV.

“It’s just a sandwich for now.” She told them. The two looked at their ham sandwiches nodding, But they didn’t really have an appetite.

They watched as their mother sat down next to their father still smoking as he laughed grabbing onto her. They both continued to laugh at whatever was playing as the two just sat and waited for whatever instructions.

“Here.” Their mother said handing the two a cigarette. They looked at her confused. “Well? light it you idiots.” She scoffed.

They nodded grabbing her lighter and lighting the cigarette. Dream smoked it fine, but Tommy started to choke. “Shut up! Take it like a man!” His father yelled.

Tommy nodded coughing taking another one but not coughing this time. Their mother laughed at them before their father joined in, “In no house of mine will my children be bad at smoking.” She smiled.

Their house wasn’t perfect. It used to be beautiful before their parents lost their job. Now it’s dirty and full of bottles and reeks of smoke, They can’t invite friends over anymore and have to be careful with their clothes so people don’t think they do drugs.

Their mother has many different drugs and would usually make them smoke for her entertainment. Their father would just drink and then sleep and occasionally make inappropriate jokes towards their mother and would leave with her while the two had to stay quiet.

It used to have Tommy laughing but now he hates cigarettes and hates alcohol. Dream held the cigarette between his fingers letting out smoke again as Tommy sat there waiting to take another hit.

“I hope I haven’t made you two addicted!” Their mother laughed with their father joining in. Dream wanted to scoff at them but just handed it to Tommy.

Dream watched as their father whispered in their mother’s ear which made her giggle and slap his leg to which he just grabbed at her side.

The two looked away as they kept whispering at each other. They jumped at their mother laughing before standing up. “We’re heading to our room now boys. Stay quiet.” She smirked.

They left walking upstairs as the two heard the door slam and lock. Dream let out a breath he was keeping in. “What do you want to do Tommy?” He asked.

Tommy stood up taking their paper plates and throwing them away. “Will mom and dad allow us to leave?” He asked. The two tried to ignore the noises from upstairs. “I really don’t think they care. Our curfew is 10.” He explained.

Tommy nodded looking up at the bruised and cuts on his brothers face. “I’m sorry, I should’ve helped make sure we had everything.” Dream cried.

Tommy shook his head, “It’s not your fault.” He smiled sadly.

The two went over putting on their sweatshirts again and some cloves they stole from Sapnap. “How about a light show?” Dream asked the boy quickly leaving the house before their parents got too loud.

“Don’t we need money?” Tommy asked, “No, I know one that is always free.” Dream smiled. Tommy nodded smiling back at him as snow fell down. The sky was a dark blue as the moon was slowly coming up. It wasn’t exactly night to the light show shouldn’t be closed down.

They walked on the sidewalk pointing out some people’s houses before arriving at the light show. They looked in awe at the bright Christmas lights and creative shows going on.

They sat on a bench their faces red from the cold but they couldn’t find themselves to care.

Dream pulled out another cigarette he stole front the counter and lit it. “Maybe mom did get us addicted.” Tommy joked sadly taking it next. “Maybe but what can you do?” Dream shrugged as Tommy let out the smoke.

“Do you think one day we’ll be safe?” Tommy asked. Dream just sat there thinking about the question. “Yes because one day I’ll make enough money and get us both out of that hell hole.” He answered taking another puff. Tommy smiled resting his head on his brothers shoulder.

Soon they got sleepy and the once blue sky was black and the cigarette was discarded on the floor. “It’s 9 we have to head home now.” He told his brother. Their eyes were red as they were tired as they walked back home.

They opened the door as their lights were out and the noises stopped. “Let’s get to bed.” Dream told him stumbling inside. Tommy nodded yawning as they closed and locked the door taking off their gloves and walked upstairs.

Tommy hugged his brother before parting to his room. Dream walked to his own and changed into a white shirt and shorts. He closed and locked his door before covering up with his bed covers.

He turned up his Christmas music a bit before slowly drifting off to sleep.

Chapter 4: I know they're losing

To say Sapnap was a LITTLE worried was an understatement.

Chapter Text

Dream awoke to a slam and yelling. He jumped up walking to Tommy’s room to make sure he was okay. He knocked but the door already opened to him.

“What happened?” He asked. Tommy shrugged, “Mom got mad at Dad I guess.” He sighed. Dream nodded closing his door before walking to his own room.

He had bruises all over his torso as he inspected himself in front of the mirror. He sucked a sharp breath through his teeth before putting on a sweatshirt with sweatpants.

Luckily it was definitely going to be cold so his attire was perfect. He walked into the bathroom seeing Tommy already there, “I just stole some of these from mom’s room so uh sit.” He smiled.

Dream nodded sitting down grabbing some as well holding a mirror. “A makeup tutorial?” Dream giggled, “Hey makeup is much harder than you think.” Tommy shrugged.

The two started to apply some stuff to hide the cut on his face and the mini bruise under his eye. “Eh it’ll do.” Tommy said grabbing the makeup and rushing to put it back.

He wore a long sleeve today with jeans. “Why the long sleeve?” Dream asked. “Um well, it’s winter and it’s freezing out there I’m obviously going to wear warmer clothes.” He scoffed.

Dream shook his head, “Let me check.” He told him. “I swear I haven’t done anything.” He defended himself hitting his lip.

Dream rolled up the sleeves to see the hand prints on his wrist. “They got you as well.” Dream frowned. “Yeah I just d-didnt want to worry you.” He admitted.

“You know I’m always worried about you.” Dream let out a sad laugh hugging him. “BOY’S GO TO SCHOOL!” Their mothers yell broke them out of their conversation as they grabbed their tooth brushes and brushed their teeth.

Once they were done they grabbed their bags and ran downstairs. “We’re leaving now.” Dream cleared his throat.

Same old, same old. Their Father laid on the couch and their mother smoked a cigarette. The smoke filled the house but was addicting to the two boys. Dream knew what was going on and grabbed Tommy before leaving the house.

“Hey losers! Get in!” Niki yelled giggling from the window. Dream made sure his face mask was on before moving to the car opening the door. Tommy got in first and he was close behind.

Music played again the group happily singing. Dream looked out the window and looked up, he couldn’t help but notice Sapnap who kept looking at him through the mirror.

•••

Sapnap was worried. Yeah, that’s a way to put it. Dream and Tommy always seemed tired around them. They always wore heavy clothes as if they're hiding something. And he always knew they smelled of smoke.

He’d asked George about it once and he said he never smelt it before. Was he going crazy? So he sat here looking at the mirror inspecting them both. Dream seemed more tired than usual and Tommy seemed like he was hiding something.

They pulled up to the school and everyone left the car. Sapnap was barely listening to their conversation. “Phil said it’s okay for you guys to come over!” Wilbur smiled. “I remember my first Sleepover with you guys.” Ranboo laughed. “Yeah! You drove to the wrong house!” Tubbo giggled.

“I remember that! I never let you go from that.” Tommy smiled before turning to continue talking to Dream. Sapnap watched them as Dream’s hands shook grabbing his bag.

When Tommy brought his hand up he saw the bruise on his arm. The bell rang breaking him out of his thoughts.

The day was going by normally until he felt a tap on his shoulder.

“Hey Sapnap, can I talk to you?” George asked. Sapnap nodded following him to the bathroom. Inside was Ranboo and Tubbo.

“Uh, what’s going on?” Sapnap asked confused. “You said once that you smelt cigarette smoke on Dream?” Tubbo asked him.

“Yeah?”

“We smelt it on Tommy.” Ranboo finally said.

Sapnap felt his heart fall.

“Wait what?”

“We were in science and he was coughing a bit and when he walked by us we smelt it. And when he moved his hand to grab the beaker, he had bruises on his wrist.” Rainbow explained fidgeting.

“Bruises?” Sapnap whispered to himself. “I-I saw a cut on Dream’s lip.” George suddenly said.

“That could've been from them play fighting right?” Tubbo tried. “No I don't think so, it looked like it was from a direct punch.” George sighed.

“Something must be wrong! We have to tell someone!” Sapnap yelled. “No! We don't know yet! If we go too early with not enough evidence we could be called liers.”

“We have to watch them. Keep your eyes on them at all times.” George suggested. The three nodded before leaving for their classes.

Sapnap walked back to his seat trying his best to pay attention to Puffy but all that he could think of was what was going on with Dream and Tommy.

Soon the bell rang and the class started to walk to the cafeteria. Sapnap stretched packing his bag before being caught by Puffy.

“Um Sapnap, can you come here?” Puffy asked. “Um, yes Miss Puffy?” He said. “Have you been checking up on Dream lately?” she asked.

“Oh, I mean I didn't know anything was wrong?” He replied. “Those two never wear jackets and the weather is only getting worse.” She told him sighing.

“I’ve tried telling them to wear a jacket.” Sapnap explained. “Just watch them please.”

Sapnap nodded. He started to walk down the hall thinking more about the two brothers. He smiled seeing the table filled with his friends.

“Hey guys!” he smiled. The group waved continuing in on their conversation. He sat down bringing out his lunch. He kept glancing at Dream who didn't have any lunch.

“Uh, do you two have any lunch?” Sapnap asked. “Oh uh don't worry! We're not hungry.” Tommy nervously smiled. That was definitely a lie because he could tell the two were starving.

“Um do you want some of my lunch?” Sapnap asked. The two looked at the pasta in Tupperware, he could hear Tommy wince. “Sure.” Dream smiled.

Saonao smiled back grabbing a plastic fork as handing it to the two. They immediately started eating and the whole table could hear their stomachs growl of hunger.

“Have you guys ate?” Niki asked worried. “Of course we ate.” Dream reassured her. Sapnap watched the two devour the pasta until they suddenly stopped.

“S-Sorry.” Tommy frowned dropping his fork. Why’d they stop? “You guys can finish it! I have fruit in here for myself,” he told them.

Dream suddenly shook his head. “No.” he simply said. He saw Tommy look down. “Are you two okay?” Bad asked worried.

Dream nodded grabbing his bag and running off Tommy close behind. The group looked at each other confused but mostly worried.

•••

You see, Dream and Tommy haven't eaten in a while. The two always had to ask to eat something and they broke that rule.

Dream ran into the bathroom stall throwing up. Tommy in the other stall. After panting and coughing Tommy spoke up. “We really... Should've a-ate when we had the c-chance.”

Dream just hummed in agreement before washing his mouth. Tommy was next to him doing the same. “Here I packed some water.” Tommy smiled.

Dream smiled back chugging some of the cold water soothing his throat. “Here you get some too,” he told him.

Tommy chugged some as well coughing. Dream ran his hand through his hair panting, “I don't think I could go back in there.”

“Same.” Tommy sighed. Dream grabbed him exiting the bathroom, soon they arrived in Miss Puffy’s classroom. “Are you two okay?” she asked getting up walking to them. “You two look sick!” She frowned.

“Just got a little sick that's all.” he tried to reasure her. “Should I call your parents-” “NO!” Dream yelled interrupting her.

She jumped back shocked. “Sorry, No we wouldn't want to bother them.” Dream told her.

“Okay well just sit down classes will start again soon.” she smiled moving to sit down. The two nodded moving to the back and putting their heads down.

And soon after a couple classes the day was over. “Uh hey guys.” Sapnap said as they walked into the car. “Hi.” Dream smiled.

The atmosphere was weird for a second until the group continued talking. Dream just tried to focus on the Christmas music.

And as Dream and Tommy left the car, Dream couldn't help but feel eyes on his back and a part of him, no all of him wished they would save him and his brother from entering their house...

Chapter Text

The weekend finally hit. Christmas was getting closer and closer, and Dream wasn’t up for it. It was a Friday after school and he sat on the couch huddled up watching the tv with Tommy as their parents were upstairs.

“Dream!” His father yelled. Dream ran upstairs immediately standing straight. “Yes sir?” “We’re going out.” His father answered.

“Out?” He asked confused. “Yeah out. Here I’ll give you some money for pizza or something.” His mother suddenly said fixing her dress. Dream nodded walking downstairs.

“Front!” Their father yelled. The two immediately ran to the living room and stood tall and straight. “Let me get a look at you two.” Their mother said. She looked at the faded cuts and bruises on the two’s faces. “Oh my two boys.” She smirked.

The two brothers watched as their parents laughed leaving the house and driving away. “Well Tommy, what do you want to do?” Dream asking sitting on the couch. “What can we even do?” Tommy asked sitting next to him.

Dream didn’t even know. The last time their parents went out was when Dream was 6 definitely way too young. And now he was just bored.

“Let’s just look around.” Dream shrugged starting to walk upstairs. Tommy was close behind. Dream walked into his room putting on some dark grey sweat pants and a dark blue sweatshirt.

He walked out seeing Tommy who now had a red sweatshirt with navy blue sweat pants. “Okay but where will we go?” He asked confused as Dream slipped on some shoes. Tommy did the same.

“Tommy I don’t know but think about it! This is a day away from mom and dad!” Dream smiled opening the door. They were both welcomed with the cold, and the sight of soft snow falling.

The two walked out and just started to walk along the side walk. “Maybe we could get some food somewhere for once.” Tommy suggested shivering from the cold. “Yeah. How about a diner?” Dream asked. Tommy nodded with a smile.

Walking into the diner was like Heaven. The two were hit with a wave of warmth and the smell of fresh food. Some people looked at them with weird faces due to the two who were barely wearing layers of clothes.

After speaking to a waiter they sat down. “Okay we don’t have much so maybe we both order a burger and share a basket of fries? And maybe just get a drink.” Dream suggested, Tommy nodded with an excited smile the two hadn’t ate this good of food since they were children.

The waiter soon came gasping at the two. “Dream? Tommy?” Dream wiped his head to Niki standing there, “N-Niki! What are you doing here?” Dream asked panicking.

“Me and Bad got a job here a little while back! Why are you here?” She asked with a worried look. “Um my p-parents are out s-so we are eating here.” Dream answered.

Niki looked at both of them, She felt her heart drop at the faded bruise under Tommy’s face and the split on Dream’s face, it was obvious that they were trying to hide it with makeup but definitely failed.

“Um okay! What do you two want for today?” She asked with a smile. “Can I get a burger! With everything on it!” Tommy shouted obviously excited. Niki giggled, “Sure!”

“Uh I’ll get the same just without onions and pickles, and we’ll get one basket of fries. Also get me a sprite and Tommy one as well.” Dream explained still looking down.

Niki nodded writing it down, “Alright! I’ll be right on that!” She told them before walking off. “Shit.” Dream cursed under his breath.

“What’s wrong big man?” Tommy asked confused, “She definitely saw out bruises!” Dream whispered to him. “N-No she didn’t! We probably just smell or something.” Tommy tried to reassure him.

Dream tried not to think about it but his mind was racing. What if she saw and told the others? What if she calls the police? What if Dream and Tommy get separated? What if she calls their parents? What if she-

His thought were interrupted by two glasses getting placed in front of them filled with sprite. “Two Sprites correct?” Niki asks. Dream nods as she smiles, “You’re food will be here soon!”

Dream watched her walk off before letting out a sigh, “Relax Big man, I’m sure she didn’t see anything!” Tommy told him. But what if she did? What if she saw the bruises? Or the bandaids? Or the cuts?

He just nodded rubbing his temples. After talking with each other for a little their food arrived. They stared at their plates before immediately eating. “Remember to slow down this time.” Dream told Tommy.

Tommy nodded slowing down and taking his time. They sat there eating their food and moving their heads to the music. Soon they finished their burgers and just sat there for a bit eating their fries.

“This was really good.” Tommy gave him a sad smile. They wouldn’t be getting this again so savoring the food was what they were doing. “It really was.” Dream replied sipping on his sprite.

“I say we go visit the lake after this!” Tommy suggested. Dream smiled nodding before he felt a tap on his shoulder. “Do you guys have any money?” Niki asked with Bad next to her. “Oh uh will this cover it?” He asked handing her the money he had.

“Sadly no.” She said after counting it. She looked at the two and sighed, “It’s okay I’ll let you two off.” Bad suddenly said beating her to it. “Go have some fun!” Niki smiled.

The two thanked them as they left leaving a very worried Bad and Niki.

Dream watched as Tommy danced around the street the moonlight hitting them. “I’ve never felt so free!” He yelled out. Dream let out a laugh, it almost felt as if their parents were finally leaving them alone.

Tommy did some cartwheels in the snowy grass as Dream danced around the light post. “Shit the snow is freezing!” Tommy shouted. Dream wheezed at him as Tommy yelled more curses at him.

Soon they made it to the bridge. It was very pretty to the two, it was pretty high up and in the night the moon illuminated the water as Lilly pads laid around.

The two stood holding onto the ledge breathing out. “It’s beautiful.” Dream said with a smile. Tommy nodded looking around the bridge. Barely anyone came around here.

Dream kept his eyes glued to the water. How deep was it? Would you sink if you fell? Would it be cold? Would it be ice? What would happen if he jump-

“Look at the fire flies!” Tommy interrupted his thoughts. Dream turned around looking in awe at the glowing bugs. “I’ve always loved this bridge.” Dream grinned.

The two were soon sitting down on the bridge feeling the snow hit them. “The thought of getting hypothermia is interesting.” Tommy said lighting his cigarette that he stole from his mom. Dream didn’t say anything he just waited until Tommy handed it to him.

The two sat there taking puffs of the cigarette. “Remind me to wash our clothes.” Dream said coughing. Tommy nodded closing his eyes. The feeling of the cold bitting at their rosy faces was calming.

The cold hitting at their pale skin reminding Dream of the cuts on his arms. The cold making them feel like sleeping right now it was all just so familiar.

“Fuck! Tommy we gotta get home!” Dream told his dropping the cigarette and stepping on it. “I know.” Tommy sighed. They stretched before making their journey home.

Soon they arrived. Dream took a deep breath before opening the door. They saw their parents sitting on the couch both obviously high and maybe a little tipsy.

“Where the fuck were you two?” Their father asked slurring his words. “Sorry! We were just eating and got caught up in time.” Tommy explained taking off his shoes.

“Bullshit. I smell it on you.” Their mother laughed. “Don’t worry though. Like mother like children.” The words sent shivers down their backs. The two stepped into the living room standing still. “You two should’ve came home a immediately!” Dream felt himself get yanked by his hair by his fathers hand.

“I-I’m sorry! We just thought that maybe we could’ve hung out for a while!” Dream told him. “Shut up!” He yelled.

“We didn’t know how late we’d be!” Tommy tried. He was stopped by a punch from his mother, “You should’ve known!” She yelled grabbing him by his arm and walking downstairs.

Dream could only shut his eyes hearing his brother cry. “This is your fault! You should’ve been a better influence.” His father yelled as he kicked at him.

“Yes sir! I’m sorry.” Dream cried. His father grabbed his collar as he could see the anger in his eyes before being punched and hitting the floor.

He coughed at the impact of the floor meeting his back and laid there touching his nose. “You know, me and your mother had a great time!” His father said taking a swig of his drink stumbling a bit.

“I’m happy for you sir.” Dream said sitting up. “And you kids just ruined it just like usual!” He yelled smacking him.

Dream nodded bitting his lip. He felt himself get thrown to the floor and coughed again taking deep breaths. At times like this he just thought of the bridge, it’s water, it’s fire flies. But he was interrupted by him being picked up.

“Get me another drink.” He cursed. Dream nodded getting up and limping to the fridge. From the reflection of a Pan he saw his bloody nose.

He sighed grabbing the drink and closing the fridge. He moved back and gave his father the drink. His father patted the couch and Dream nodded sitting next to him.

His father turned on the tv and started to laugh at whatever played while drinking. Dream felt the urge to wipe the blood from his nose but whenever he tried his father smacked his hand.

Finally the sounds stopped and the door opened. At this point blood was staining his shirt and was all over his hands and new bruises covered his face.

He turned to see his mom coming back up. “Stupid kids.” She cursed grabbing Dream and throwing him to the floor before sitting next to his father.

He shakily got up, “Permission to clean the mess?” Dream asked. “Yeah sure.” His mother said. Dream immediately moved to the door walking down into the basement.

And we’ll the sight was bad.

Tommy shook on the floor huddled up whispering stuff to himself. Blood splattered on the floor and already staining his shirt and pants.

Dream sighed walking over and started scrubbing the blood with the cleaning supplies in the corner. Once the blood was up he took the bottles and cigarettes and put them in a trash can.

Now that everything was clean and his parents wouldn’t get mad at them he moved to Tommy. “I-It hurts.” Tommy sniffled looking up at him.

Dream nodded sadly replying, “I know.” seeing the new bruises and a very bad busted lip. “D-Dream your nose!” He cried. “Let me get us cleaned up.” Dream told him.

Dream helped Tommy up and moved them upstairs. They passed by their parents and started to walk up the stairs. Dream walked them to the bathroom and he set him on the counter top.

“Okay just hold on.” Dream told him. Dream left the bathroom and grabbed a White short sleeved shirt with a tiger on it, and red plaid pajama pants out of Tommy’s room and then moved to his own and grabbed a light Blue short sleeved shirt, with some black basketball type shorts.

He moved back to the bathroom and placed the set of clothes onto the floor before turned on the water.

“Okay just let me help you.” Dream said. Tommy was obviously out of it but slowly nodded taking off his sweatshirt.

Dream sucked in through his teeth at the bruises on his ribs, and looked at the scars on his body. He began to take a wash cloth and wipe at the blood. He soon moved up and wiped at the cuts to which Tommy winced at.

“Sorry.” He apologized. Soon after cleaning the boy up he finished slipping the oversized white shirt onto his body, “I remember Wilbur got me this shirt from his camp that Phil forced him and Techno to go to.” Tommy snickered.

Dream smiled at the memory before standing Tommy up to hand him his pants. Once the boy was in new clothes and the open wounds were a little okay he put some bandaids onto his face and arms and finally finished.

He opened the door and walked Tommy to his room. “C-Can I sleep with you please?” Tommy asked. The last time this happened was the first time Tommy got hit. Dream smiled nodding. He walked Tommy to his bed and pulled back the covers.

Tommy immediately crawled in and grabbed a pillow hugging it. Dream sighed before moving to the bathroom. He looked at his face and let out a huff before washing a cloth and wiping his nose. Soon it stopped bleeding and he wiped at his lip and placed some bandaids on his eye.

He wiped the cloth on his torso and winced at his ribs. He felt tears prickle at his eyes but stopped before getting into more comfortable clothes.

He turned off the lights and closed the door before making it to his room. He locked the door for safety and watched Tommy who was already asleep.

Dream moved over to his phone and plugged it in seeing the messages from Sapnap, Niki, Bad, and Wilbur. Fuck well he’ll just lie and say they went to sleep early.

Dream turned off the light and turned on a little night night, Tommy was always scared of the dark but never admitted to it so Dream always had a nice night light.

Dream stretched moving to his bed. He looked at his cracked window listening to the faint Christmas music from outside. Their house was near a shop that would play music all the time and he loved it when they put on Christmas music.

He was about to sleep before he heard Tommy wince. “Nightmare?” Dream asked. Tommy nodded wiping his eyes. “Do you want cuddles?” Dream asked smirking. “Shut up! Never tell anyone of this or my reputation will be ruined.” He grumbled.

“You have to be popular to have a reputation.” Dream giggled at the stuffed animal getting thrown at him from his comment. Tommy laid back down now laying so he was facing Dream placing his forehead onto his chest, Dream smiled putting an arm on him and placed his chin onto his head.

“Remember don’t tell anyone ‘mkay?” Tommy said slurring his words obviously falling asleep. “‘Mkay.” Dream replied also falling asleep.

The two soon we’re lulled to sleep by the faint music playing outside his window…

A Saturday. A quiet Saturday. Until a phone ringing woke Dream up. He looked down to see a sleeping Tommy and smiled before moving over and grabbing his phone.

“Hello?” his croaky voice let out. “Dream! We’re coming soon to pick you and Tommy up for a day out.” Ranboo told him.

Dream sat up quickly making Tommy roll onto his back still sleeping, “You guys are coming over?” He asked rubbing his eyes. “Don’t you remember? we invited you two to a movie and dinner last week.” Ranboo informed him with slight worry.

“I must’ve forgotten um, Yeah we’ll be ready soon!” Dream answered. The two said goodbye before Dream hung up the phone. He stretched yawning before turning to Tommy who still lay asleep.

Dream smiled before moving over and shaking the boy to wake him up, “Tommy wake up.” He whispered. Tommy slowly opened his eyes groaning, “Why are we waking up it’s a Saturday and our chores are done.” He asked rolling over.

“Everyone’s coming, we slept in later than usual and they're coming to pick us up.” He explained getting out of the bed. Tommy shot out skipping to his room obviously excited. Dream put on a green sweatshirt and some dark grey sweatpants and some sneakers. He grabbed his phone and left his room.

He moved to his bathroom before brushing his teeth standing next to Tommy who wore his usual jeans with a red sweatshirt. Once they both finished brushing their teeth they made sure bruises and cuts were hidden before moving downstairs.

Their mother smoked by the window, and their father laid asleep on the couch with an empty bottle. “We’re heading out to hang out with friends.” Dream told his mother. Their mother for once turned to look at him, and nodded.

Dream immediately walked out with Tommy. The two stood outside. Dream put in Ranboo’s Number and called him. “Um hey Ranboo are you guys coming down?” He asked, “Oh yeah! We should be at your house soon.” He replied.

Dream smiled, “Alright see you soon!” And he hung up. Soon after talking the familiar car pulled up. “Get in!” George yelled out.

The two walked towards it getting inside. Inside was their normal group all smiling and talking about different things. “I say we watch a horror movie!” Tubbo suggested. “I agree!” Tommy yelled.

“I want action!” Wilbur pouted, Niki nodded agreeing. “Action would be nice.” Techno shrugged. “How about a horror action?” Sapnap suggested.

Everyone nodded, except for Dream. He just wanted a normal movie but he couldn’t say anything. He didn’t want to be a downer.

Soon they arrived at the movie theater and left the car. They walked in being welcomed with the smell of popcorn and the sounds of people talking. “Okay let’s get our tickets.” Wilbur said everyone following him.

The theater was big, neon lights all around them as the stands full of food and popcorn imitated the mouth watering smells. Wilbur got the tickets which wasn’t surprising he was almost like the leader of the whole group.

“I want popcorn!” Dream said. “I want some too!” Ranboo agreed nodding his head. “Alright go get the food for us.” Niki handed them some money, “Get me some nachos and Tubbo some fried Oreos!” Tommy said following Wilbur, Techno, and Tubbo to the room showing their movie.

“Get me a burger I guess and George wants a Coke.” Sapnap told him moving to the same room with George and Niki.

Dream waved them off before turning to Ranboo, “I already forgot half of the things they asked for.” Ranboo told him. “Me too.” Dream giggled before moving to the stand.

“Okay let me think.” He said. He started ordering stuff off the top of his head. Soon the woman nodded moving to the back. She came back with a tray full of their food and Dream thanked her.

Ranboo grabbed the popcorn and started eating it. “Hey save me some!” Dream yelled playfully, “Nope I’m going to eat it all.” Ranboo giggled. Dream just rolled his eyes with a smile behind his mask Ranboo fixing his own.

Dream remembered when he gave him the mask. His old one got lost once and Dream felt bad so he sewed him a new one. He smiled at the memory. Soon they made it into the room and Dream handed everyone their own things before sitting down.

He sat so he was at the end closest to the exit so it was in this order: Dream, Ranboo, Tommy, Tubbo, Wilbur, Techni, Niki, Sapnap, And George.

And as he started to eat his popcorn the movie started.

***

This was an awful idea. He should’ve known that.

It started when the first jumpscare happened. It wasnt that scary but the loud noise scared him and his first thought was his father who would scream at him.

He brushed it off. But he really shouldn’t have. The next was an explosion, The bright lights of it and the loud noises made him jump and look around. His mother’s lighter popped into his head, the tiny flame doing so much damage to his skin.

His leg started to bounce up and down and he started to bite his nails. He was fine he just had to keep telling himself that. Soon a man started yelling and that really messed him up.

The smell of alcohol hitting his face filled his mind. He winced which didn’t catch anyone attention, well except Ranboo. He looked over with worry as Dream’s hands shook.

“Are you okay?” He asked tapping Dream. Which was a bad mistake because the boy jumped violently, it scared Ranboo. Dream just nodded turning back to looking at nothing.

Dream held onto his popcorn tighter as screams filled the room from the scene happening. But all he heard was the familiar shouts of his father and his mother laughing. “I’m sorry.” He mumbled hunching over. “What?” Ranboo asked concerned.

Dream shook his head covering his ears. He just kept repeating, what else was he supposed to do? “Dream breath in for me.” He heard. It came in a whisper.

He complied taking a deep breath, “do you recognize me?” The person asked. He didn’t speak he just shrugged. “Okay take a deep breath in.” The person told him.

He followed along scared of what would happen if he didn’t comply further. Soon after taking deep breaths the voice got more familiar. He looked up to see Ranboo, “Are you feeling any better?” He asked.

Dream looked around him to see the bright lights of the bathroom. “W-Where are we?” He asked still shaking. “I brought you to the bathroom. You were having a panic attack.” He told him rubbing his back.

Dream looked around some more before taking a deep breath. “Do you know what caused it?” Ranboo asked him. “N-No.” he answered, But Ranboo didn’t buy it. “That was a bad one, are you okay?” He asked him.

Dream just nodded. He jumped at the phone ringing to which Ranboo gave him a concerned look but answered his phone. “Hello?” He said. “Ranboo! Where are you two? The movie ended!” Sapnap asked.

“Sorry we’re coming soon.” He sighed hanging up. “Will you be alright?” He asked. Dream nodded with a smile. Ranboo gave one back before opening the door for him. The two walked out meeting up with their friends.

“Are you okay?” Tommy asked. Dream just nodded again getting a little annoyed, he was fine! He was! The group walked to the car and immediately started discussing the movie.

“The ending was super shocking! Who would’ve known she was dead the whole time!” Tubbo shouted. “I thought it was sad. He was imagining her this whole time thinking she was still alive.” Niki sniffled.

“I thought it wasn’t very smart.” Sapnap shrugged, “I thought it was surprising.” Tommy explained.

The conversation continued like that until they arrived at a restaurant. They walked in sitting down. Dream sat up against the wall and just played with his fingers before their waiter came. They all ordered before continuing to talk.

He kept feeling eyes look back at him. He just continued to play with his straw knowing exactly who it was. “Dream?” He jumped looking at who said his name. It was Wilbur. “I asked you what you thought.” He giggled softly.

Dream sat there not knowing what to say. He wasn’t paying attention at all. “I uh-“ “He spilt some soda on him and we missed the ending so he doesn’t know anything about it.” Ranboo interrupted him.

The group laughed a bit before talking about the ending once again. He mouthed a thank you to Ranboo and he just nodded looking back to his phone.

Sapnap looked at Dream worry just pooling in his stomach. He had been jumpy during the whole movie. He pulled out his phone not wanting Dream to hear him talking about him.

Sapnap

Hey, what happened today? You two left during the movie.

Ranboo
Promise you won’t tell him I told you?

Sapnap

I promise

Ranboo
He had a panic attack. He keeps denying it but I kept hearing him mumbling apologies

What? Why was he apologizing? He looked up nodding at Ranboo before looking at Dream again.

Dream just wished everyone would stop worrying about him. He hates it. He was supposed to be strong! For Tommy!

Soon their food arrived as he couldn’t stomach much, Tommy also barely eating. “Are you two not hungry?” George asked confused. “Oh um not really.” Tommy said looking down.

Dream just looked off into nothing nodding. The group shared glances but nodded.

After dinner the group just walked around talking after parking their car in a parking lot. Dream didn’t really focus on what they talking about he just swayed feeling the cold hitting at his face. He liked the cold. He loved the snow.

It helped him feel something for once. It reminded him he was still alive, still standing, still… here. He followed behind the group who stood on the bridge. His favorite bridge.

He put his feet on one of the bridges handles looking over to see the clear water. Watching the moonlight hit the waters making it bright. He sucked in a breath closing his eyes imagining the water overtaking him.

“Dream! We’re going to get ice cream come on!” Tubbo yelled. Dream looked over nodding following behind. He sat next to Tommy eating his strawberry ice cream listening to his friends laughing loudly at Sapnap who accidentally knocked Half of George’s ice cream out of his cup.

His phone buzzed and he immediately picked it up making his Friends even more worried. “H-Hello?”

“Get home now. The foot ball game finished and your father isn’t very happy.” His mother said. It sent shivers down Dream’s back. “Yes ma’am.” He said hanging up.

That just made Wilbur concerned. He sounded scared.

“We have to go bye guys!” Dream stammered grabbing Tommy before running off.

The group said goodbyes before looking at each other. “I’m really starting to think their not safe.” Wilbur mumbled, but the whole group heard it.

Dream panted as they ran back. He looked at his phone with a message from Sapnap saying he could’ve drove them back. Dream just shook his head putting his phone in his pocket. “I-I had fun.” Tommy smiled wiping his eyes from tears out of fear.

Dream let himself grow a sad smile.

He wished things were different.

And under his bed, laid a calendar with the date December 24th already ripped out.

Chapter Text

Tommy panted as he ran behind Dream trying his best to keep up. His feet ached and his lungs burned, he definitely did not like running.

They had to get home. And he knew that. So he tried his best to keep up with his older brother who sprinted forward.

“We’re so dead!” Dream yelled. “I know!” Tommy screamed back. Tommy stopped taking a deep breath coughing. “Tommy don’t stop!” Dream urged him.

“Hold on bitch!” Tommy yelled back coughing. “Shit please tell me you aren’t getting sick.” Dream said putting a hand to his neck. “I’ll be fine!” Tommy reassured him.

“No Tommy that’s not good! I cant be able to leave you home by yourself who knows what they’ll do to you without my protection.” Dream gritted his teeth already feeling sick thinking about what they could do.

“Let’s just get home and we can talk about it.” Tommy told him sneezing and rubbing his nose. Dream nodded with a sigh and grabbed his hand before running again. They both knew this would happen, it was freezing and they didn’t even have the right clothes.

After running for what felt like hours they arrived at their home.

Tommy took a deep breath before opening the door. He could already feel the eyes staring at him, so he had to say something. “Where the hell were you two?” Their mother asked. “We were just hanging out with friends!” Dream tried.

“No, I'm sick and tired of your excuses!” their father screamed. His loud voice boomed across the house, Tommy yelped as his hair was pulled being thrown onto the dirty carpet.

“Please stop! It was my fault!” Dream tried. Their mother just shook her head before grabbing onto his arms holding him back. “Don’t hurt him! Hurt me!” Dream pleaded.

Their father didn't care. He never cared. The sound of a hard smack echoed around the room.

Tommy brought his hand to his cheek and already felt the lump growing in his throat. He watched warily as his father took a swig from his beer, soon he didn't need to wait anymore before he felt a pain shooting across his face.

That made the walls come crashing down. “Dad stop please!” Dream cried tears streaming down his face, “You two need to learn a lesson.” their mom said.

He felt pain in his ribs as he was kicked at. “You shouldn’t have left the house.” His father yelled. Tommy closed his eyes as he was grabbed by his shirt and felt a fist connect with his face.

Tommy suddenly gasped as he felt a burning in his arm, he turned to see the cigarette burn forming in his shoulder. “Please stop.” he pleaded as his father kicked at him. “Okay fine.” their father grunted before grabbing Tommy by his arms.

His head hung as he sniffled blood coming down already. But the sound of a thud made him look up. Dream laid now where he once was looking terrified. “You shouldn't have gone.” “Yes mama I know now please.” Dream pleaded.

“You’re a failure, and now your brother pays for it,” she yelled taking a belt out. “I’m sorry Tommy.” Dream sniffled. Tommy shook his head, “You have nothing to apologize about!” he tried to reassure him.

“No stop! I'm useless I should've helped you!” Dream yelled. “Shut up.” their mother interrupted. She brought the belt down with force as Dream yelled. Tommy closed his eyes but hands made there way to his eyes forcing them open. “Please stop!” Tommy cried.

He watched as she kicked and punched him. Tommy slumped down to his knees holding to his ears trying to cover the noise of his brother crying. Soon the cries stopped and the two felt the movements of their parents leaving the room.

Tommy immediately moved over to Dream. He rested his bed on his side as he hiccuped trying to hold in his cries. “It’s okay.” He tried to tell him, “It’s not! I should’ve protected you.” Dream cried pulling at his hair. “It’s not your fault.” Tommy tried.

His words weren’t doing anything. Dream nodded before putting his hand in Tommy’s hair. They soon moved up as Dream helped Tommy walk upstairs. They did their usual, cleaning theirselves up and changing. Dream out on a short sleeved shirt with shorts, and Tommy wore pajama pants with a sweatshirt.

“Will you be okay?” Tommy asked rubbing his arms. “Don’t worry about me Toms, I’ll be okay.” Dream reassured him. Tommy nodded before hugging him tightly, Dream returning the hug. And they said their good nights before making it to their rooms.

Dream never liked to show his emotions. He didn’t want Tommy to see him hurting. But he couldn’t hide them from himself.

He hugged himself as he shook, hot tears running down his face. He pulled at his hair, why couldn’t he protect his brother?

He moved over to his window sitting down on a spinning chair. The sky was a dark blue as the sun was rising soon. But he could still hear the faint sounds of Christmas music playing.

He pulled out his notebook writing down his plan. It was going to soon be in motion. He couldn’t protect his little brother and soon he would regret it, he needed to leave.

Who was he if he couldn’t even protect his loved ones?

He wiped his tears and threw the notebook on his bed as he let his tears fall.

He scratched at his arms reopening cuts before, it was a habit that Tommy told him to stop but it never really did. He needed to stop feeling sorry for himself, this was his fault! He was useless.

The blood dripped making its way to his carpets staining them.

He wiped his last tears before grabbing some bandages and wrapping his arms. Soon the day would come, and he was ready for it. The day he could finally rest.

- - - -

Sapnap was pacing, “We have to help them!” He yelled pinching the bridge of his nose. “I know but I don’t know how!” George yelled back.

“Listen fighting won’t help. We need to just save them before something worse happens.” Ranboo told them. The two nodded agreeing. “What do we know so far?” Wilbur asked.

“I’ve seen a bruise on Tommy’s eye, He saw me looking and immediately put his sun glasses back on at my house.” Tubbo explained. “They both reek of cigarette smoke and sometimes alcohol.” Ranboo added.

“Dream once had a busted lip and wouldn’t tell us what happened.” Sapnap told them. “I think these are all signs of a bad home and abuse.” Techno suddenly said.

Everyone felt sick but nodded in agreement know he was correct. “One of them is going to get very hurt we have to help them.” Sapnap sadly said. “Then we need to prepare. They can stay with us! When they come to the party we won’t let them go home!” Tubbo suggested.

“That’ll do, but remember if they don’t want to talk about what happened we shouldn’t press more on them. They need time to heal.” Wilbur said.

Everyone nodded before making their way to the car. They needed to save their best friends, and that was final.
