A Wilting Flower

Summary:

Aeldra finds out one of her students stopped coming to class and she wants to know why.

Work Text:

Headmistress Aeldra gave the door a knock, waiting for a response. She heard from a few teachers that one of her students was falling behind in their classes and recently stopped showing up to class, only being seen around meal times. Not getting a reply, she let herself into the dorm room. The room looked like a normal dorm, with a desk and a bed and a few posters of some music or shows that the young ones are into these. On the bed, the rooms owner was lying face down on the bed.

“Miss Nhatai?”. Aeldra asked. Gilda lifted her head to see the headmistress standing in the doorway.

“What do want?” Gilda grumbled before planting her face back onto the pillow.

“I heard you weren’t going to class and wanted to make sure you’re okay.” The headmistress explained. “Is everything okay?”

“Why am I here?

“Excuse me?”

“Why am I in Ikenfell?

“Because you’re a witch, Miss Nhatai. It’s as simple as that.”

“Then why am I so bad at it?” Gilda asked. Getting an idea of the situration, Aeldra sat down onto the bed. Feeling the weight on her bed, Gilda got up and sat next to her.

“You just need to find a type of magic that suits you. We’re like those magical ponies that way.”

“But I should’ve found it by now. I’m 5 years into this crap and I got nothing to show for. Petronella is doing great at potions. There’s a first year who’s already leant how to talk to bugs. And Safina...She just loves to rub her perfection in my face.” The young witch said with a bit at venom at the end.

“Forget about her. That girl is just one mistep from being expelled.” Aeldra told her.

“But it’s not just her. Everyone mocks me. Laughs at me. Reminding me how much I suck. It’s not fair! Why am I the only the one failing everything!?” Gilda was starting to cry as she let her feelings out. Aeldra wrapped the weeping girl in a hug and let her cry on her shoulder.

“There, There. Let it all out.” Aeldra comforted as Gilda cried for several minutes.

“I want to go home...”

That line broke the headmisstress’s heart. Her students are suppose to blossom into beautful flowers to color the world, not wither and die into nothing. She’ll need to talk to the staff about this cause this shouldn’t be accpetable. But what to do with Gilda. She could arrange for her to be taught in some more...forbidden magic, but that stuff is forbidden for a reason.

“Miss Nhatai. You were sent to this school for a reason. And thats because you have the potential to be an exceptional witch no matter what the others say. But if you don’t feel comfortable by the end of the term...I’ll consider transfering you to another school. Would that be okay?. Aeldra propsed. Gilda nodded

“Okay then. I’ll let you have the rest of the day off, but I want to hear that you’re attending you’re classes. I’m sure your teachers are worried about you too.” The Headmisstress said and then took her leave. “And if you want to talk to anyone, dont be afraid to come to me.”

GIlda just nodded as the headmistress left the room. She thought about leaving to an Ordinary school but she had a feeling she’ll get mocked for being a witch. But would that be any better then staying here. Either being a useless witch or and ordinary freak. It’ll take a miracule or something to make her feel like something.

Like that will ever happen...
