Tanuki & Mujina (are not the same)

Summary:

Two different drabbles - each from a different perspective - about simple encounters between a "tanuki" (bake-danuki) and a "mujina" (girl in a costume).

Notes:

(See the end of the work for notes.)

Work Text:

Interesting rumors were sprouting amongst the humans. Spreading like wildfire on the winds was a tale of a talented ninja who could escape even the eyes of her peers. The only reason people know of the story, they say, is because of the rare instances where one could see a bushy tail.

It has led some to question if this was all the work of a tanuki - or even a bake-danuki.

Staring down at the sleepy girl - hidden within the brush while others called for her - Mamizou could only scoff at such confusion.

Mujina are not the same, she thought.

Grumbling that simple errands disturbed her sleep, Sayu leaped through the trees. Her abilities were for hiding and sleeping - not finding lost things.

She landed in the grass, curious that her scanning hadn’t picked up anything yet. That is, until a woman she hadn’t seen before appeared from behind a tree.

“Looking for this, dearie?” She held out the item. “I found it on the forest floor while hiking. I was wondering when someone would come for it.”

Sayu nodded and hurried to finish the errand.

She went by so quickly, in fact, the woman’s ears and tail went unnoticed.

Notes:

I got the idea of Mamizou and Sayu meeting as soon as I pulled Sayu. I was actually surprised to learn that Sayu wasn't actually a tanuki (or an animal-human in general); which kinda ruined some of my initial fic ideas. The idea to do a drabble, though, then came to me. Mainly so I could indulge in the idea simply and quickly. Although I do want to return to Mamizou and Sayu fic ideas in the future - and maybe expand horizons to other duos (Yoshika and Qiqi already come to mind).

Besides this being my first attempt at drabbles, this is also the first time I started and finished a fic within the AO3 interface...sorta. I needed Google Docs for word count; but other than that, this was really speedy to get out. Which is nice, since it's been awhile since I finished a WIP.
