Chapter Text
"What a joke! Look at you, you truly are pathetic with that stupid quirk of yours. Poor little Aika, you will never be a hero like that, not with your worthless and stupid quirk!"
"Aika, it's time to wake up!"
Two mint green eyes opened up, staring at the ceiling of the bedroom.
She sat up in her bed and looked around the room: across the walls, where music groups posters hung, she also had a purple guitar in a corner of her room. She let out a tired groan and got out of bed, walking over to her closet to look at her clothes; most of them were black and gray, with a few in more vibrant but still dark colors.
She put on a green T-shirt and a pair of black jeans, before slowly and tiredly making her way to the bathroom and looking in the mirror, only to be met with the same sight as every day: long, purple black-ish hair, with a few green stripes reaching down to about half her back. She also had two earphone jacks hanging from her earlobes.
She sighed, washing her face and brushing her hair before putting it up in a somewhat messy ponytail, leaving afterwards the bathroom to make her way downstairs.
When the girl reached the kitchen, her mint colored eyes met the two onyx ones of the woman sitting on the couch in the living room next to the kitchen, strumming her guitar. This woman is none other than Earphone Jack, the Number 3 hero, also known as Kyouka.
She smiled and stood up, approaching her child.
"Morning Aika, did you sleep well?"
Her mother's question was asked with the tone she only used when she was very happy about something.
Aika let out a sigh before nodding.
"Morning Mom, yeah, I slept fine, though I wouldn't call it well," she said as she walked over and sat down on a chair in the kitchen, before turning back to her mother.
"Where is Dad?"
Kyouka followed her daughter into the kitchen, turning on the coffee maker as Aika started making herself something to eat.
"Izuku is over at Musutafu preparing some things with your grandparents: they wanted to have a get together later today, in honor of us moving in."
Yeah, moving: that's why Aika was feeling even more down than usual.
Looking around the room there was almost nothing there, the last few items her and Kyouka would take with them when they drove over.
It's not like Aika was happy about it: even if they were few, she had made friends here, and she'd gotten used to living in Tokyo, but suddenly her parents got the smart idea of moving back to Musutafu, where her dad grew up. She was also gonna start her new term at a new school, to add to the great news.
At least she wouldn't be fully alone, as a lot of her honorary uncles and aunts had kids who they where living nearby, though she had never really talked too much to most of them, as she never enjoyed hanging out at gatherings and, more often than not, ended up hiding in her room.
After they both finished eating and packing, Kyouka and Aika sat down in the car and started driving.
It was a long drive of 3 hours, which left Aika with a lot of time to think: apparently her new school was called Aldera Junior High. She had heard this school had gotten a lot of criticism in the past for its extremely biased treatment towards its students, but fairly recently the state had hired new staff ,so maybe it wouldn't be that bad? Apparently Ami, her honorary cousin who Aika, for the life of her, could not remember, would be going to the same school.
Yeah, it might be nice, she laughed a bit inside at that.
"Yeah... Right"
After 3 hours of driving, stopping on the way only to get some lunch, they finally stopped in front of their new house. It wasn't much different from their old home, in fact it looked pretty much the same, not that Aika minded.
After dropping off some of her items, Kyouka had told her she could take a walk around town to get a feel of it. Aika groaned a bit, but she felt like maybe some fresh air was what she needed, so she took her phone and put a purple sweater on before walking out, plugging one of her earphone jacks into her phone to listen to some music as she walked.
She looked around the place, thinking that it didn't feel half bad and that it was a lot more remote than Tokyo was.
Maybe this won't be so bad, Aika found herself thinking once more.
As she walked across town, she suddenly heard a huge explosion.
Her first instinct was to ignore it, but when it happend again she couldn't deny that she'd gotten a bit curious and, after a moment of thought, she ran towards the sound. After a bit of running, she reached what was a battle between some sort of giant monster made of rocks, and a guy with blond spiky hair and some big green gaunlets in the shape of grenades.
She reconised the blond from somewhere, but she couldn't place exactly from where. The hero, after noticing her, grinned at her and continued to fight.
Aika was never a hero fanatic like her dad, but she couldn't deny that heroes did intrest her somewhat, though never so much that she wanted to be one herself. To satisfy her curiosity, Aika took her phone out, starting to look through various news outlets to figure out who this familiar hero was.
She got distracted while searching the web, however, and got her attention back on the fight only when she noticed a giant boulder falling towards her.
Her eyes widened in terror, she raised her hands over her head to protect herself, and braced for the impact to come.
Katsuki was walking along the streets of Musutafu when he got a message on his phone. Checking to see who it was from made his eyes widen in surprise.
"Deku?"
He stared at his phone, not expecting such a random text from his old classmate and childhood friend, before opening the message and reading it.
Deku:Hey Kacchan
Katsuki scoffed at the nickname. It was a childish nickname, but it had just sort of stuck to him, and it's just something he ended up accepting, along with a lot more. Since he'd learned Izuku's secret, Katsuki had just grown more and more respect for the now number 1 hero, but this had also lessened his attitude, although that didn't mean it wasn't still there.
Dynamight: What is it now you nerd
Deku: Not much, just wanted to let you know me and Kyo are moving in today, and I was hoping you and Camie had time to come by and say Hi
Dynamight: Camie is busy and so is the little Brat, but I cant see why I wouldnt be able to come by, are the others coming
Deku: It's Only gonna be my family, Mom and Kyo's parents
Dynamight: Fine, I'll be there, when do you want me there
Deku: Around four should be good
Dynamight: Alright, you got it
He put his phone down and kept walking, before a loud rumble made him stop in his tracks and turn around, only to see some smoke a bit further ahead.
"Fuck, really?"
Katsuki ran around a corner to quickly put on his costume before blasting himself towards the smoke. When he reached it, he saw a giant boulder monster, who had been smashing some buildings.
"Oh so this rock head is messing around in my town, hah? I think you're gonna regret that, stone bastard!"
The villain winced at bit at his insult, although that was generic even for him, he had to admit, but he didn't have time to think.
He rushed foward, ready to fight this monster.
The Boulder monster tried to hit him with a punch, which Katsuki quicky dodged with a well timed explosion-powered spin, before blasting foward to land several smaller explosions on the Villain's face in order to test the waters on the damage this thing could take.
Once the smoke settled, he saw that he had done some small scratches, but not much else. Katsuki growled before jumping back and landing on the ground just as the monster threw another punch, narrowly missing as Katsuki dodged once more. The punch, however, hit straight in the road, causing a huge rumble as well as more dust.
"Hey, you're too slow, gravel head!"
Katsuki looked around, only to see that people were starting to gather around to watch.
"Dammit, too many people", he thought just before noticing one girl, whom he faintly recognized: the girl had dark hair and had two earphone jacks hanging off her earlobes.
"Isn't that Deku's kid? Why is she here?"
He didn't have time to think so, before the Villain started throwing more attacks at him, he flashed a quick smirk towards the girl.
The fight ended shortly afterwards, as Katsuki blowed the villain up with a huge explosion, its body split into several boulders that he swiftly took care of. However, one of them slipped out of his range, heading straight for...
"SHIT!"
When Aika came back to, she looked around herself. She thought she'd got crushed by a boulder, but now she was laying there, on some grass a bit away from where the monster had been taken care of.
"Hey, are you alright kid?"
She looked up to see the Hero that had been fighting, which suprised her and made her back up a bit: he must be the reason she hadn't been crushed, she realized.
"Y-Yeah, I'm fine. Thanks for saving me."
"It was no problem, now let's get you back home, before your mother kills me for getting you in danger."
This statement made Aika feel a bit confused: did he know her parents?
After a couple moments of indecision, she decided to just ask him.
"Do you know my mom?"
"You may say that. Me and your parents were in the same class, back at U.A"
He looked around before removing his mask.
"You might not remember me, we only met when you where still a little runt."
She finally understood why she thought that the hero was so familiar: it was because it was her honorary uncle.
"Uncle Katsuki?"
After he nodded his confirmation, she continued talking.
"This makes a lot more sense now."
She stood up, as Katsuki looked at her and nodded.
"Right, anyways, let's get you back home, or Ears will have my head."
Aika just nodded, letting her uncle walk her back home.
When they finally got back and walked in through the door, Aika found herself instantly wrapped in a tight hug from whom she recognized to be her grandma Inko.
The unexpected show of affection made her blush a bit, but the embarassment was short lived before Aika hugged her back.
"Hello sweetie, look at how big you've grown! So young and beautiful, it's been way too long since I've last seen you, how have you been?"
"I have been fine, granny,I'm just a bit tired from the move," she said, letting out a tired smile, before sitting down on the couch, beside her mom.
She looked at Aika with worry.
"Hey hun, are you alright? I heard there was a villain attack in town, I hope you're not hurt."
Aika could already feel her mom checking her over, even while they were sitting.
"I'm fine mom, thanks to uncle Katsuki."
She turned and looked at Katsuki, who had by now removed his costume and had sat down at the kitchen table.
"Oh hello Katsuki, I'm glad you could join us," Kyouka said.
She was, of course, nowhere near as close to Katsuki as Izuku was, but she had managed to have a stable friendship with the walking bomb, so much so that they were on a first name basis. She got used to calling him by his first name shortly after he and Camie got married, as calling him Bakugou wouldn't really work anymore.
"Thanks....K-...Ears."
Kyouka might have gotten used to it, but Katsuki still hated it. He never enjoyed calling anyone but his own wife or his male friends by their first names, and even then he more often than not just used his nicknames for them.
"Anyways, where's the nerd? I came here to see him more than anything else."
Kyouka sighed at the nickname.
She hated it, but she could understand why he didn't want to call her by her first name.
"He is upstairs, but he should be down any minute now."
She said while gently running her hand through her daughter's long, messy hair, gently caressing it.
As if on cue, Izuku came down the stairs and saw Katsuki on a chair. He gave him a gentle smile before walking up to his childhood friend.
"Hello Kacchan, how are you doing? It's been a while."
Katsuki stood up and smiled a small bit before shaking hands with Izuku.
It really had been a while since they had last seen each other in person, last time being somewhere around early last year.
"It really has. I'm doing fine, you seem to keep yourself together here with your family, really different from the nerd I once knew."
It's true that Izuku was still just as kind and heroic and hardworking as he had always been, but he had also changed a lot in terms of how he acted: he was a lot braver, bolder and he could show anger a lot easier, but when compared to his wife, this man was a walking teddy bear.
"Let's eat, shall we?", Inko suddenly called out as she started putting food on the table
"Mika and Kyotoku said they would come later"
Everyone sat down and the table and enjoyed dinner. Katsuki unfortunately had to leave soon afterwards, but not far after Katsuki had left, Kyouka's parents showed up.
As everyone expected, grandma Mika stuffed Aika full of grandmotherly love, while Kyotoku continuously asked Aika about how her guitar practice was going, just like he always did.
"So, tell me kid, are you keeping up with that guitar of yours?"
Kyotoku asked while taking a sip of coffee.
"Uhhh," Aika blushed a bit, "I'd like to think so? Mom tries to practice with me every day for an hour or so, so yeah, I'd say that I'm doing fine."
She ended up saying while being held in Mika's arms.
Kyotoku smiled.
"That shows that you've got heart kid. Maybe you will be a great hero in the future."
This made Kyouka and Izuku quiet down, and Aika started to stutter a bit.
"I, I dont know if I want to be a hero. My Quirk is not as strong as mom's when it comes to making soundwaves, so I dont know? Maybe I'll just become a musician."
"W-Well that is cool too, that's what me and your grandma decided to do, and we are living mighty fine lives. I just thought that, maybe, you'd want to follow in your parents' footsteps."
Kyotoku said while slowly sipping on his coffee, suddenly feeling a bit awkward.
Aika clapped her hands together, trying to chase away the awkwardness.
"Nevermind that, none of it is set in stone yet! I'm gonna go up to my room, I'm feeling tired."
She gave Inko, Mika and Kyotoku a goodbye hug while saying goodnight to everyone, before going up to her room and flopping onto her bed.
She let out a big sigh.
"Well, this is gonna be a long year," Aika found herself thinking, eventually falling asleep soon after that.
A week later, Aika is standing on the doorway of her house with Kyouka and Izuku standing behind her.
"You know the way right?"
Kyouka asked with a smile, to which Aika nods.
"Yeah, I do. Bye mom, bye dad, ove you!"
She walks out the door and towards her school, looking around at the other students walking beside her. Some of them seem to be mutants, as their Quirks gqve them weird bodies. Her quirk is a mutant one as well, but not to the level of some of the othe guys.
Suddenly a girl with white hair with a few wlue lines in it runs past her knocking her on the arm and out of her thoughts.
"Whoopssorrymybadiminabitofahurry!"
She quickly ran away after that, leaving Aika shaking her head and smiling.
"What a scatterbrain, although she did look familiar..."
She continued walking until she reached the school, tense as a guitar string because of nerves.
She took a deep breath, trying to soothe her anxiety, before walking in.
"This is Aika Midoriya, she's a new transfer student from Tokyo. She will be completing her final term in this school. Please, give her a warm welcome."
The teacher said as she stood up by the blackboard.
"Aika, you can take a seat right there."
The seat the teacher pointed to was right beside a boy with greenish-black hair and frog-like features: she recognized this boy as well, although a bit less than the girl from before.
Aika sat down, and the teacher started the lesson. She usually was a pretty diligent student, but today it seemed like she really couldn't focus much, and thus she found her attention drifting.
She looked at the kid she was sitting next to, and then at her other classmates: nobody really caught her eye. except for the girl from outside the school.
"Oh, she's in this class."
When the Class ended, the boy that sat beside her instantly turned to her.
"Sup new girl, I'm Ezume Tokayami, nice to meet you. You're uncle Izuku's kid, right?"
Her confused reaction seemed to be enough, as the boy kept talking after chuckling for a moment.
"We really haven't met much, only a few times as kids, although you mostly hid in your room."
The sudden introduction got Aika a bit nervous, but she kept her calm enough to nod.
"Thats why i recognized him, he's auntie Tsu's and Uncle Fumi's kid."
"So what's your quirk? You never talked much as a kid, so I couldn't really ask. I mean, you have those weird ja- ACK!"
He was suddenly struck with an icecube to the head.
Aika turned in the direction the ice cube had come from, and her eyes landed on the girl from before.
"Sorry about him, he doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut."
She smiled at Aika, and she couldn't help but smile back.
"I'm Ami Todoroki, nice to meet you. Your name was Aika right?"
After she'd nodded, Ami kept going.
"Just like Ezu, we met when we where younger and even hung out a few times, though we kinda stopped when our parents got busy."
Aika nods once more.
"This is Ami, no wonder i dont recognize her, she looks so diffrent."
She turned to Ezume.
"It's fine, I'm sorta used to it, Gramps is even worse when it comes to music. And to answer your question, the official name of my quirk is Heatwave: I can use the my heartbeat to send out soundwaves that have diffrent degrees of heat all depending on how much power i put into them."
Ami nodded.
"Thats a pretty cool quirk! My quirk is Called Iceflow, I can make ice from my body and then turn it into liquid at will. I can also form it into a lot of diffrent shapes." Aika listened in, her expression changing into an awestruck one.
"That sounds really useful! I mean, think of all the things you could do with that, you would need almost nothing like keys or anything like that, nor weapons if you were to become a hero."
She started to mumble a bit, like her dad, which caused Ami to laugh while she listened to her rambling. Aika eventually noticed what she had done, and looked at Ami while blushing.
"S-sorry about that, it's kind of a reflex i have gotten from my old man..."
"It's fine, don't worry about it, you sounded pretty invested, just like Uncle Izuku!"
Ami smiled at her.
"Do you wanna eat lunch together? The frog here is coming with us, but I hope that's fine."
Aika nodded.
"That's cool," she said while getting up, and she started walking with them.
Maybe school wouldn't be so bad if she had those two around, even less so since they could use this time to grow closer as honorary cousins.
Aika smiled to herself.
"Maybe change can be good, sometimes."
