Work Text:

Celestia was born and raised in the town of Greensburrow. When she was the age of ten her family found out she was a witch. Her parents went from door to door to tell the news and she was to be hanged by the time she was fifteen. When she turned fifteen however she decided to run away from her execution and live in the woods somewhere. She had to pack light so she packed clothes, food, and a knife to keep her safe. Since Celestia never got to learn any spells growing up she never knew how much power she had. During her travels in the woods she came across a small hut, Celestia knocked on the door and an old lady came out, "hello small one how can I help you?” “My parents were to kill me on my fifteenth birthday because I was born a witch.” The old lady stared at Celestia with her small wise eyes, “well I see nothing wrong with that come inside and I might be able to spare a room for you to stay in, and I might have some books for you to study your powers with.”
“Thank you for being so kind to me and I promise to pay you back someday.” Celestia said, twisting a piece of her short blond hair. “There’s no need to pay me back small one, now come sit by the fire while I make us some raspberry and herb tea.” The kind old lady went to the kitchen to make the tea while Celestia just sat on a sage green couch. As she was sitting she took in her surroundings, there were two shelves filled with books, herbs, and crystals. On the wall was a fireplace putting off a warm heat that filled up the room. As Celestia looked around the room the old lady walked in the room and sat the cups on a table in front of the couch. “I also have some cookies in the oven, they will be done in a few minutes.” “Thank you for the tea miss,” Celestia said, picking up a cup. “Oh my I haven’t told you my name have I, you may call me Miss.Olivia,” the old lady said with a smile. “Well my name is Celestia, Celestia Heart.” They both sat in a comfortable silence while sipping out of their cups then they both heard a loud ding. “Oh it seems my cookies are done, I’ll go get them for you.” Miss.Olivia said while scuttering into the small kitchen to get the cookies. A large white cat wobbles in the room and stares at Celestia. She looks at him and smiles. The cat frowns and narrows his eyes, he wobbles over to her and jumps onto her lap. Celestia starts to gently pet the cat’s head and down his back. Miss.Olivia comes back with a tray of cookies. “Ah, I see you found Marlo my cat, he’s an old boy and he naps all the time even when I need him for things.” “Why would you need a cat to do things?” “Marlo is my Familiar, and he is completely lazy when it comes to helping me make my potions.” “Wait, potions? You're a witch too?” “Yes, but a different kind. You were born a witch as you told me, while I was not born a witch, I learned from making potions that help with many things like healing, while you can have magic abilities like healing magic and other types.” “I can really do things like healing?” “Yes, with the right training you can become a natural.” Miss.Olivia walks over to the book cases and pulls out a book. “This will help you with healing magic, but we shall not start now. You can start tomorrow, tonight you can just rest. I will set up a place for you to sleep.” Miss.Olivia walked over to a small room and opened the door, she walked in and then back out again. She then walked to a cupboard and picked out purple sheets and a pillow case. Celestia asked if there was anything she could do to help the frail old lady but she denied any type of help. Miss.Olivia walked over to the cupboard one last time and pulled out a big velvet red quilt. She then took it into the room and a minute later she walked out. “Your room is done, go ahead and have a look.” Celestia gets up and walks up to the room and goes to the bed. It is a little bit bigger than a twin and it looks extremely comfy. “Thank you so much, it looks amazing.” “Your welcome dear, I shall see you tomorrow. Celestia looks to the right and sees that she has a small window. The night is pitch black and there are no stars, she decides the best thing to do is to go to sleep for the night.
Celestia opens her eyes but immediately squints them because the light is too blinding for her to see anything. A few minutes pass and she finally can open her eyes all the way, she gets up and walks into the living room where she smells bread. Celestia looks in the small kitchen and sees Miss.Olivia making bread to serve with whatever else she is cooking. Miss.Olivia looks behind her and smiles, “I see you're up, I made eggs and I’m making some toast, I also have jam if you need any.” “thank you,” Celestia said while walking to the small dining table. Celestia started to eat some of the eggs and a few minutes later Miss. Olivia came over with perfectly toasted toast. After they ate they went into the living room to start Celestia’s training. “Okay for starters you need to study, so here are some books for you to read and take notes on. You are able to write in them so highlight to your heart's content.” Celestia took the books and started to make her way back into her room. She sat on her bed and decided to read the book of healing spells first. As she read she highlighted things she would need to know in a purple highlighter. A few hours later she finished the book, tired from looking at a book for hours at a time she fell into a deep sleep.
Celestia dreamed of what she wanted her fifteenth birthday to be and then her parents grabbing her and putting her head in a large rope and forcing her head inside. She then shot out of her bed and looked around, just the same room Miss.Olivia had lent to her. Just then Celestia heard a soft knock on the door, “Celestia dear I made lunch for you, mind if I come in.” “sure.” Miss.Olivia came in holding a plate of different types of fruit and berries, “I hope you like berries because I just picked them from the river side.” “thank you Miss.Olivia berries are my favorite.” Miss.Olivia smiled and handed the plate to Celestia and headed out of the room. Celestia sat in silence while she ate and then began to read about the different elements she could master; water, healing, fire, plants, poison, electricity, and cursing people. Celestia didn’t really like the idea of cursing people but if she had to she would do so.
Days had passed of Celestia just reading different books and after a month or so she began to work to activate her powers. She had to travel to different witches to learn how to do different things so she had to say goodbye to Miss.Olivia, “thank you for everything Miss.Olivia, I will miss you so much and I hope to see you again someday.” “I hope to see you again too young one, you will always have a place here so take this knife with you to keep you safe for the time being.” “Okay, well I’ll see you someday.” “Yes, see you someday.” Celestia looked at Miss.Olivia one last time before going off to find a witch that can teach her fire magic.
