Work Text:
It’s been three years since the incident, three years since I’ve locked myself in my room, three years since I’ve seen my friends. Since then, my mom gave me her old hand-me-down cell phone, she gave it to me because I wasn’t answering the home phone, maybe she thought giving me something more expensive would make me answer it. Nobody knows this is my number, Basil doesn’t, at least. Today marks the day I have decided to call Basil. It’s two in the morning. I don’t know if he’ll answer, if not, who? Basil isn’t one to pick up the phone past midnight. I dial his number into my phone, I raise the phone up to my ear, my breath slow and heavy.
xxx-xxx-xxxx
Ring, ring, ring.
Ring, ring, ring.
Ring, ring, ring.
Silence.
“...H-Hello…?” A young, wide awake voice answers the phone.
My heart thumps at the sound of his voice. His voice hasn’t changed one bit. He still sounds like the boy I knew three years ago, still sounds like the Basil who offered to stage my sister’s murder, still sounds like a twelve year old.
“...It’s two AM…. Who is this?”
While I have so much to say, I limit my words to very few. I only have one thing I want to say to him.
“I love you, Basil.”
Silence, silence as Basil obviously tries to wrap his head around what’s been said to him, trying to understand who'd be calling him this late in the night just to say such stupid words, such stupid, unimportant words. At 2 AM.
“Wh-Who is this?” Basil’s voice trembles. He’s probably trembling too.
“...Sunny?”
…
“...Sunny look if this is you I...” He laughs softly, “...N-Nevermind. This is probably just a prank call… Or something.”
Click. Silence.
Today marks the day I’ve decided to never talk to Basil ever again.
