“Get in, kill the person, and get out.” Keefe told himself for the hundredth time. He had waited for this moment, he just hoped he wouldn’t fail. The leader of the Romans had finally given him the order to kill one of the Greeks. Apparently, the person he had to murder was the key to the Romans victory. His best friend, Marella, had been given the order to send a message when it was done, so she was waiting for him outside the camp.
Keefe quickly jumped over the gate, past several guards and brutal looking soldiers. He knew exactly where his target was located. He ninja rolled over to a large bronze dome, where the Roman leader had told him to go, and he swiftly cut it open with his sword.
Keefe had seen many dangerous things in his life, but they were nothing compared to the girl. She was more of a threat because she was BEAUTIFUL. She had long blonde hair and leather-brown eyes, and was seated in the centre of the room. He moved closer towards her. In fact, he was so caught up in her appearance that he didn’t even notice that she had spotted him. She stared in fear at him. Suddenly, he snapped out of the trance. Ge remembered that she was supposed to be dead. He brought his sword up to her neck. He was just about to push it through when everything went black.
…
Sophie looked at the boy that was collapsed on the ground. She should’ve tried to kill him. She shouldn’t have had mercy. After all, he had tried to murder her.
“Ms Foster, are you okay in there?” She Heard- one of the guards ask her.
“Yes. I’m fine.” She probably should’ve said no, but she was fascinated by the Roman. So what if she’d used one of her abilities on him? It was accidental, and when he woke up, she would question him. She picked up his limp body to analyse him, and she noticed he was actually very good looking for a Roman. She set him down on a chair, and waited.
…
As Keefe’s vision blurred back into view, all he saw was the Greek girl looking at him with curiosity.
“Who are you?” She asked.
“Why would I tell you?”
“Because I can inflict on you again and you won’t be able to do anything.” Keefe sighed. She was right. He noticed she had handcuffs on her hands, which made him a bit more comfortable. She was a prisoner.
“My name is Keefe, and I shouldn’t be talking to you right now, because I was ordered to kill you.”
The girl laughed. Her laugh was amazing. Melodically hypnotising.
“Fascinating, isn’t it? How we have this grudge against each other. I’m Sophie.” She held out her hand towards him, and he cautiously shook it.
“Aren’t you supposed to be a secret weapon or something?”
“Me? A secret weapon? Oh heavens no! I suspect they only keep me because I have rather useful abilities.”
“And they are?” Keefe pushed mischievously.
“Well, you already clearly know I can inflict. I can also read minds, teleport, enhance others, speak any language…as I said, I’m useful.” Keefe smirked. She was powerful.
“And do you like working for the Greeks?”
“Not really. I honestly just stay here because I can’t get away.”
“I can get you out of here if you want, but you’ll have to decide fast because the guards could come in at any given moment.” Keefe was aware that he was disobeying orders, but he could tell the supreme leader that he had murdered Sophie, and then hide her somewhere else. He didn’t know why he was offering. It was probably because he liked her. But…no. He wouldn’t say it.
“I don’t know. The security here is pretty high levelled.”
“I got in, didn’t I? What are the chances I can’t get you out?”
“There are very high chances you can’t get me out but I suppose you can try.”
“Come with me then.”
…
“Didn’t I tell you I could do it?”
“I must say, I am impressed.” Sophie looked at Keefe, her new Roman friend. His eyes were set on a tree, and he grinned. Grinning suited him. With his messy blonde hair and ice blue eyes. He seemed like a trouble maker. She imagined the Greek soldiers entering her bronze dome to find she wasn’t there, and for some reason, it made her happy.
“Alright. It’s getting dark and we’re still a fair way away from the campsite, so we’ll have to find somewhere to set up, and that tree over there looks perfect.” Keefe pulled out a massive blanket that looked like at least 5 people could sleep in it, and some food, then, he found two sticks and rubbed them together skillfully, making a fire.
“It gets cold out here, trust me, I should know.” He laid the blanket down on a soft spot of dirt, and settled into it. “I uh, only brought one blanket, since, y’know…I didn’t think I’d have company.”
“Do you mind if I share then?” Keefe’s face turned a deep crimson.
“No! Of course I don’t mind! I’d be happy for you to sleep with me-I mean, obviously, not like that-“ Sophie laughed, and slid herself under the opposite side of the blanket. Suddenly, an arrow landed next to Sophie.
“Run!” Keefe shouted. Sophie ran the other way than Keefe, and was soon lost, but she could hear footsteps behind her. There were also sudden footsteps in front of her, and she saw a quick flash of someone in front of her before she hit something hard, and her vision blurred.
…
When Keefe woke up, there was something next to him, his eyes quickly and looked beside him. Thankfully, it was only Sophie. WAIT. IT WAS SOPHIE. He scrambled away quickly. He had been sleeping…next to he girl he liked…Sophie’s eyes fluttered open.
“What happened? Where is the person that was chasing us?”
“I scared him away, but we should move fast, he might come back.” Keefe decided not to mention the sleeping part. “Let’s go.”
Eventually, they got back to the Roman camp. They sneakily went behind the tents, and headed towards Keefe’s camp space.
“So…you have fun NOT killing the target?” Keefe knew that snarky voice. He knew he’d been caught.
“Marella, please don’t tell! She was a prisoner! Not a weapon!”
“She wants you to think that, but she’s probably going to kill you the next chance she gets.”
“If I may, I don’t wish to kill anyone, it’s rather…gruesome. I have no interest in murdering you.”
Marella sighed. “Fine. But I swear if she gets caught I have nothing to do with it.”
“Oh ho ho! It’s just like a Roman to put the blame on someone else!” A new voice entered the conversation. He had strawberry blonde hair and periwinkle eyes.
“Dex?! What are you doing here?” Sophie asked.
“I’m here to help you get away from these…creatures.”
“I don’t know who the heck you are but you need to get out of our camp NOW.” Marella argued.
“EXCUSE ME! I happen to be an amazing Greek soldier and I can kill you in a sword swing!” While Marella and Dex kept arguing, Keefe took Sophie to a place he knew no one would know. Sophie could be safe there. It was an underground home, Keefe had found it and added…you could say finishing touches.
“Here, I’m sorry, it isn’t much but it’ll have to do until I can find something better.”
“Thank you.” Sophie leaned up to Keefe and gave him a quick peck on the lips, and smiled. Then she went inside and closed the door, and left Keefe standing there in shock. He grinned. Perhaps he did have a chance and getting her to like him.
