Chapter Text
“Dream, if you escape this prison somehow, I will be the one to kill you, because you deserve to be here.”
Dream could care less about what Sapnap said back then now that he was finally free from that stuffy god forsaken hell of a prison and standing about 5 feet away from the fire demon.
Dream stood out of breath panting from the adrenaline rush of the escape as he blankly stared at Sapnap with wide eyes. Sapnap on the other hand wore a almost feared surprised look on his face as he studied Dream closely.
Dream then smiled wide as he felt his eyes begin to water.
“Sapnap…” Dream mumbled out before rushing towards the raven haired man and enveloping him in a hug, wrapping his arms around his form as he buried his face in his neck. Sapnap only took a step back to brace himself with a slight gasp on contact.
Gods, he’s been so touch starved for far too long. Not being able to hold anyone close to him in his panic, fear and insanity was one of the worst punishments given to him. He always seeked comfort in others touch when he was like that, and now…
Now he was hugging Sapnap, his partner in crime, best friend of many long years and he would go far as to say brother, in his arms and holy fucking shit did it feel so good.
“Sap, you’re… you’re really here… in my arms again… after all this time… fuck, I missed you.” Dream felt himself sob into Sapnap’s neck with a huge range of emotions scaling from pure insanity to utter happiness.
Finally hugging Sapnap in the middle of who knows where was meaning so many things. One of them being he was out. Free and gone. away from Sam’s constant watch, away from Quackity’s relentless brutal torture, away from the loneliness and bitter numb cold that was his cell, and he felt like he could finally breathe.
He doesn’t think Sapnap feels the same though.
Sapnap’s knees seemed to give out as he collapsed to the floor, Dream falling as well since he had his whole body mass on the other. Dream could practically hear Sapnap grit his teeth as he cradled Dream with one arm, his hand digging into Dreams arm so hard he swore if he looked he would see small crescent moons left by Sapnap’s claws. Some may be drawing blood.
“Dream… Dream you fucking idiot!” Dream winced and clutched onto Sapnap harder at how loud Sapnap’s rough horse voice sounded right by his sensitive ear. He didn’t seem to care in the slightest as he continued.
“How could you- why would you- you escaped! Fuck! You were supposed to stay there until you fucking rotted in that damn cell! Do you know the shit that you did to not just me or even George,” Dream felt a tear slip from his eye at the name. “But everyone that has caused so much fucking damage, Dream? Do you?!”
He nodded weakly with closed eyes.
Of course he knows what he did. Quackity and Sam would remind him every day.
Does he regret it is what everyone wants to hear.
“Frankly, I don’t think you do! Because maybe you’d feel at least a little bad about what you did!” Sapnap was so loud right now. It hurt his ears honestly. Why was he so loud? Why was he angry? Dream was here now. They weren’t separated anymore. Now all they needed was sweet beautiful George and everything could go back to how it was. Right?
“Sapnap… I’m here though. I’m happy and-“
“No Dream!” Dream flinched as he was cut of. “You don’t get to be fucking happy! You don’t have any right to deserve that if I’m still healing from what you fucking did!”
Did Dream care about what Sapnap was saying? Not really. But that doesn’t mean it didn’t hurt. Of course he was allowed to be happy, he was free from that hell finally. Why couldn’t Sapnap see this?
The fire born in question took in a hard breath and Dream just now noticed the tears slipping past his fire orange eyes even though he wasn’t looking at him. He could just tell from the way Sapnap’s grip loosened and how his breaths were shaking.
“You… you know what I promised to do if you escaped… remember?”
He did. Of course he did. He just prayed it was a meaningless threat that kept Dream locked up.
Clearly it didn’t work.
“Yes…” Dream responded.
He heard the click of a dagger being drawn then.
He could tell what dagger it was too.
It was the one Dream gave him. Hand made and everything with the letters “S x D x G” in bedded in the hard mental of the weapon.
It hasn’t been used.
Of course it hasn’t been used.
But… with the way Sapnap brought it over the centre of Dream’s back, he could tell that a part of him wanted to use it. Get it dirty and say it’s been used for the better.
Was that really true?
If Sapnap killed him, would that make him better than Dream?
Maybe in others eyes it might, but he’d still carry Dream’s blood forever stained on his hard cracked hands, no?
“I don’t wanna do it Dream…” Sapnap’s voice was so quite and soft and even then it shook so roughly, just like his hand.
“Does killing me actually make you a better person?” Dream’s voice was so much quieter as he spoke into Sapnap’s arm with no emotions visable.
Maybe Sapnap should kill him. Release him from another chained up prison which goes by ‘life’.
“I have to… you can’t stay out of that prison… you’ll only cause more pain…” Sapnap’s salty hot tears didn’t turn into lava this time like normal. They were normal water filled tears that dripped onto Dream mass of dirty oily blond hair.
That meant he was hurting more than anyone could understand.
“All I’ve ever known is pain, Sapnap.”
Sapnap choked out a sob at that. The sky seemed to respond with a loud crack and Dream could feel the start of rain hitting him.
“What about when we were children!” Dream hummed at the memories of then.
Bright sun filled days with hardly any care or concern or stress over anything other than ‘what was Sapnap doing today?’ And ‘I hope he wants to play in the forest today’.
Yet here they were. In that same forest. Rain now covering their entire beings as they sit on the rough soil in each other’s arms.
One looking for comfort, and the other looking for blood.
“If you want me dead, then why hesitate?”
“Because have you ever thought that maybe I fucking loved you?!”
“Love… is just another word for hurting. Because… that’s how I feel right now, Sapnap.”
Sapnap seemed to freeze at that. As Dream turned to face Sapnap finally. Sapnap’s makeup was running down his face along with hard tears and Dream reached up to wipe them away with the pad of his thumb.
“I’m always hurting. Hurting from love or mistakes. But… causing other people to hurt by my hand is just another high I want to take a hit on. It’s control, and it feels so fucking good.”
Sapnap’s dagger drew closer to Dream’s skin as the sky snapped and cracked loudly above them.
“You’re sick, Dream. So sick and twisted and I can’t believe you’re still alive because of it.”
“Then kill me.”
And…
And he did…
Sapnap sat shocked as Dream helped him plunge the dagger into his chest.
Sapnap pushed first, but Dream was the one to get the dagger to tear through skin.
Dream smiled at Sapnap as a streak of blood fell past his lips.
“Now… now I’m truly happy… Sapnap. I… I loved you too.”
Was the final words that escaped Dream before he fell limp forward into Sapnap’s chest with one final breath of life slipping past his dirty lying lips.
And Sapnap screamed into the night.
