Chapter Text
Taehyun was a summer fairy.
With little pretty wings that had yellow and green colours on each wing. A very, very tiny and small daisy was tucked on his left ear and his clothes were obviously made of a flower petal and a thin grape vine serving as his belt and straps to his shoulders. Fairies smell like the finest and most alluring perfumes, not so strong, just something sweet and calming fragrance that will pull you closer.
Like any other fairies you read in novels and cliché books, Taehyun was also a garden fairy. And if fairies were to brag about the gardens they took care of, well, Taehyun's garden was pretty enormous and beautiful. Each flower was great in number, perfectly arranged in their type and variety, some were potted, some were growing on the wide and green grass.
Not far from his beloved garden, there lay a small forest with bushes, birch trees and other types of trees that didn't grow much in size and height.
Inside this small forest was a pond where the fairies fetch their water. Taehyun's home was also at the heart of this forest. There's this one and only tree, the biggest amongst them, it was called the Pixie Hollow.
The start of summer heat enveloped the land, the sun rose up early as Taehyun skipped down from the hollow of their tree. He let himself fall and as he was about to reach the ground, he spread his wings, getting in contact with the wind.
"Good morning!" He smiled oh so widely as he waved at the ants that were tinier than him.
The ants waved back enthusiastically, obviously very fond of him, "Good morning, Taehyun! Good luck for today!"
He bowed at them and thanked them. He quickly flew across the forest, his basket that was made of dried leaves and stems was filled with self-invented objects that he made for harvesting and taking care of the plants.
The smile never left his face since yesterday when he overheard a conversation between the family.
"He's coming home tomorrow!"
It had been a little too long since the last time Taehyun saw him and so he decided he wouldn't miss his arrival today. He finally landed on the garden, the flowers shifting to his presence and the bees buzzing around started to form together.
"Oh, good morning, Taehyun!" The leader of the bees said.
"What are you guys doing here?" He asked.
"For harvest, of course! We need food just like you, you know." The leader snapped.
"You're here for harvest as well, aren't you?" Another bee asked.
Taehyun sighed, standing still on a firm leaf before he replied, "I'm here every single day. Although we call it 'harvest', we aren't actually just harvesting. We are helping the plants to regrow, especially the flowers. I doubt you'd have a lot from these flowers when most of them still had the effect of the storm."
The bees' buzzes faltered a bit, they looked at each other while the leader glanced at the flowers. Indeed, most of them didn't look so healthy.
The leader sighed, shaking his head as he spoke, "Okay. We have no choice but to leave it to the fairies. I'll speak with the Queen Bee about this. She'll understand."
Finally, Taehyun smiled again as he bowed at them and the bees reciprocated the action. The leader signalled before they buzzed around, flying across the garden before they left Taehyun's sight.
Just in time, the rest of the fairies came, carrying their things and materials for today. He spotted his two best friends, Kai and Soobin, they swirled through the wind before landing on the same leaf Taehyun stood at.
"I knew you could handle them," Soobin commented, referring to the bees.
"Right," Kai agreed, smiling widely. "We can work without their noise."
They all laughed before they finally started to take care of the flowers.
Taehyun saw a slightly crooked sunflower, it was supposed to look up at the morning sun but it didn't. He flew towards it and saw that it was mostly covered in dirt. He rummaged through his basket and started cleaning the poor flower with some wet, tiny, and soft leaf wipes.
Other fairies were scattered on the wide garden, happily doing their work.
By the time Taehyun reached his third flower, all of them heard a loud honk of a sports car. Well, they couldn't blame the owner of it when he was literally the son of a retired car racer.
Upon realising it, Taehyun almost threw his basket, knowing exactly who it was. He dropped his things on a nearby leaf and flew up, "I- I'll be right back!" He said to the flowers.
He left and zoomed towards the mansion, not too far from the garden. But for someone as tiny as him, flying from the garden towards the mansion felt like flying across thousands of hectares of land.
He arrived at the front terrace, panting as he hid himself behind a medium pot.
"Please, please, let me see his face." He mumbled, his wings drooped, hanging down as if they had no strength left.
Just as he prayed for so long, the guards closed the tall gates and the white sports car parked in the middle of the driveway. Sometimes the owner of it would take a train but for today, he brought his car. Taehyun held his breath as the boy finally stepped out, his keys rustling in his left hand, his other hand was holding a duffle bag which he quickly draped over his shoulder. The boy went around, pulling out his luggage from the backseat.
As if on cue, the doors opened and his family came out with happy faces.
"Choi Beomgyu!"
The mentioned one looked up, his thin lips formed into a wide grin and Taehyun could only melt into it. His heartbeat picked up its pace, banging against his chest.
He watched as Beomgyu ran towards his family. His mom was littering kisses on his cheeks, his dad ruffling his long hair, and his older brother was hugging him.
Taehyun couldn't help but smile at how adorable his family was. His mom started crying this time. It was understandable since Beomgyu wasn't able to come home last winter and summer due to a ruthless pandemic. The country was in an overall lockdown and Beomgyu couldn't come back to Daegu, his home town.
His family, and also Taehyun, hadn't seen him for almost two years.
You could only imagine how much Taehyun missed Beomgyu's long hair, pretty brown eyes and long lashes. His sharp jawline, charming smile, and most of all, his soothing deep and husky voice.
Taehyun smiled widely, a single tear trickled down his cheek.
"Welcome home, Beomgyu."
~
As Beomgyu and his family celebrated his arrival over a late breakfast, Taehyun headed back to the garden to finish his work.
He was truly happy that Beomgyu will be staying in Daegu for two whole months but he couldn't help the sudden feeling of sadness. It had always been the same since the first time he saw Beomgyu when the latter was only sixteen years old. That time, Taehyun was finally allowed to leave Pixie Hollow and work with the other young fairies.
It was a colourful summer when his eyes caught a glimpse of Beomgyu when the latter was searching for his green Amazon parrot that got lost in their forest and apparently was one of the fairies' most deadly enemies.
Young love was not serious, people said. Then what's this supposed to mean when Taehyun found it difficult to ignore the human's presence?
Taehyun kept it to himself for a bit, he fell in love during the summer's heat. He fell in love with the human, the fascinating Choi Beomgyu. The rich kid, the adorable one who lived in the mansion and the owner's son of this wide land that included the small forest and the wide garden.
Beomgyu came home every summer for school break and his only wish was to spend it with his family here in Daegu.
Taehyun got the best advice from Pixie Hollow's elders, telling him that the infatuation he felt for the human will eventually disappear especially when Beomgyu left his hometown to go back to school.
Well, that was six years ago.
Two months after Taehyun felt those emotions for Beomgyu, he left and went back to Seoul. Taehyun thought it was for the best to leave his feelings aside, but then he just found himself waiting for the human to come back. Days, weeks, and months passed. Taehyun found a pattern, and found out Beomgyu will always be back every summer. If he was lucky enough, he would have seen him also on winter breaks, but he couldn't because he was a summer fairy and he wouldn't survive the cold.
This year, Beomgyu was twenty-two and yes, Taehyun couldn't believe that it had been six years already.
He found himself falling harder as the summers passed by. He left small things for Beomgyu. Just so he could do something for his unrequited love. He would always leave a single flower on his slightly ajar window on the second floor. Then he waited until dawn when the human finally woke up and reached his window to let the sun seep through his thin curtains, then he would notice the flower.
Taehyun loved how Beomgyu never had a questioning look on his face every time he had a flower there, he just smiled and put the flower on a glass vase on top of his desk which Taehyun could still see.
Thank heavens because the flowers were usually taller and bigger than Taehyun so he had to carry them with so much trouble. Well, it was worth it.
If not flowers, Taehyun would sometimes fly across Beomgyu's room when he's not around. He would leave his fragrance that he knew would give calmness, and if he was lucky, Toto, Beomgyu's dangerous parrot, wouldn't catch Taehyun.
It would always be like this until Beomgyu had to leave again.
"Yah! Taehyun!"
He snapped back into reality when he heard Soobin and Kai calling for him.
"What?"
"You saw him?! Beomgyu's finally back!"
Taehyun gently removed the withered leaf on a pink gumamela flower. He folded and tucked it into his basket since it can still be used in his experiments.
"Yeah," Taehyun replied, suppressing a smile.
"He has been the talk in the garden since his arrival." Soobin said.
It appeared that Taehyun wasn't the only one who was mesmerized by Beomgyu. Many of the fairies found him very alluring. But not to the extent of falling for him and making them lose their minds like Taehyun. All of them agreed that Beomgyu was just so lovely and adorable, despite having very sharp features and a deep voice.
"Don't just 'yeah' us! We know how much you've been sulking and crying when he couldn't come home last summer!" Kai exclaimed, elbowing Taehyun's side.
"Ugh," Taehyun groaned. "Don't bring that up. It's embarrassing."
"Well, it's you." Soobin snickered.
"Just please shut up, you two." Taehyun said, bringing his basket and waving goodbye at the flowers. He flew away and his friends followed. "Other fairies might hear you."
They flew back to Pixie Hollow with their baskets as Taehyun's friends continued to tease him. Really, he wanted them to stop but he couldn't ignore the fluttering of his heart either.
Every time he heard Beomgyu's name, his pointy fairy ears would instantly perk up and they would laugh at how fast he reacted which resulted in more redness on his cheeks.
~
The next day, Taehyun woke up very early as he wanted to find a flower for Beomgyu.
But then he heard a small commotion. He quickly left his cottage that was situated on a branch near the center of their Pixie Hollow tree. He found the other fairies rushing and peeking outside of the hollow of their tree.
"What's happening?" Taehyun asked one fairy.
"That Amazon creature is out of his cage. Our beautiful Beomgyu let him out again!"
Worry washed over Taehyun, knowing that the fairy was referring to Toto, Beomgyu's beloved parrot who apparently owned the forest. It was like he was the king of this small forest, and every time he was out, all of them had to hide or else.. Toto will find them and pluck their wings with his evil beak, or worse, eat them.
"Toto! Come back, it's still early!"
Just then, they all heard Beomgyu's voice echoing. They all peeked their heads out of the hollow, spotting Beomgyu who was leisurely walking down the ground. Even on an early morning, he was glowing and looking good that Taehyun felt it was too much for his heart.
Beomgyu's eyes were searching every tree and it took another minute when Toto finally showed up.
"There you are," Beomgyu grinned, reaching up and pointing one finger for Toto to land on. The parrot flapped his wings, making a few sounds that seemed like bullshit for the fairies but to Beomgyu, it looked like he understood him.
"Alright. I know you're hungry, but it's still early."
If Beomgyu wasn't there, the parrot would have found their hollow and ate them since it looked like he was really hungry at that time. Beomgyu finally left the forest with Toto and the fairies were relieved.
Starting their day, they cleaned up and went down to fetch water from the nearby pond. Since the plants were Taehyun's priorities, he couldn't ditch them since they still needed help after the storm last week. So he decided to leave a flower for Beomgyu tonight. For now, he focused on helping.
The hours just passed by. He heard Beomgyu's voice from time to time. He was probably chilling inside the mansion and playing video games with his older brother.
It was late in the afternoon when he saw Beomgyu rushing around the terrace with his brother chasing him. Beomgyu was drenched in water, droplets from his hair were trickling down his skin and Taehyun almost dropped the pixie dust in his hands. Damn, the view was ethereal.
"Choi Beomgyu! Get back here!" His older brother screamed at him while holding a bowl of flour.
"Hyung, Mom's going to scold me if- wahhh!"
His brother poured the flour on Beomgyu and the latter screamed loudly. Taehyun stifled a laugh and the rest of the fairies who witnessed the scene, burst into laughter. Taehyun was relieved that no matter how loud they laugh, the humans wouldn't hear them because of how extremely small they were.
"HYUNG! WHY?!"
This time, it was Beomgyu chasing his brother. They were already adults but still young at heart. Taehyun watched them, his smile never stopped. His cheeks actually hurt since he had been smiling a lot since yesterday.
It was already dinner time when the fairies finished checking up on the flowers and by tomorrow, the bees could come and harvest so they could finally make their precious honey.
Soobin was holding a list, the board was made of a tree's bark, and its papers were leaves. Kai was instructing some fireflies behind him.
Taehyun spotted them, he flew towards them, flapping his wings before landing on a leaf beside Soobin.
"What's for tomorrow?" Taehyun asked.
Soobin pursed his lips, reading the next page on his list. "Beomgyu's mom will probably water the plants tomorrow morning. The flowers are looking better now compared to the previous days. The pond was clear and clean, so that will leave us nothing to do tomorrow except keeping an eye on the garden."
Taehyun sighed in relief. It was about time he took a little rest and daydream about Beomgyu. His friends shouldn't know about it but it seemed like they already knew.
"It's dinner time. We can head back now," Kai commented as he stood between the other two.
Soobin nodded and gestured for them to fly together, but then, one window suddenly lit up. It was the nearest to the garden. The three fairies looked curiously and through the wide glass window, they could see Beomgyu and his mom. They were talking for a bit before he enveloped his mother in a hug.
The fairies softened at the sight, mostly Taehyun. It brought warmth to his heart, seeing Beomgyu hug his mom. They started giggling and laughing before breaking the hug and Beomgyu eventually earned a smack on his shoulder. His mom was gesturing for him to go now and Beomgyu obliged, skipping up to the stairs towards the second floor where his room was located. The Chois probably finished dinner a little early.
Beomgyu's mom turned off the light in that hallway and left. Kai took it as a cue to pull his friends and fly back to Pixie Hollow.
"Wah, Beomgyu's really lucky to have a family like them." Soobin commented and Kai agreed.
Taehyun's eyes were still stuck at the mansion's second floor, mainly on Beomgyu's opened window. He remembered that he was supposed to go there first.
"Guys, you should go first." He said, leaning back as his wings flapped.
"Eh? It's already night time, Taehyun. It's a little dangerous." Soobin lectured him. "Plus we haven't eaten anything since noon. Let's go back."
"But-"
"Soobin's right. We should go now," Kai said softly so Taehyun wouldn't be stubborn.
The shortest one quickly shook his head, "I'll be alright! I won't take too long to catch up with you guys."
His friends eye him before they finally let him go, "Okay. Be safe."
Flying away, Taehyun waved at them. He dove deep and back, he was a little tired and this time, he knew he couldn't carry a bigger flower. He found a small pink tulip near the pond. It was laying abandoned on the ground. He took it and zoomed towards Beomgyu's window. He stepped on the window sill and the little amount of gold dust coming out from his wings every time it flapped was caught at the corner of Beomgyu's eyes.
The human quickly turned to look at his opened window just in time Taehyun managed to hide below it.
Beomgyu stared at it a little longer. "Hmm. I thought I saw something shiny."
Taehyun heard some shifting before a slight screech of a chair. He perked up and sighed when Beomgyu was already looking at his computer. Taehyun looked around and found Toto sleeping in his locked cage. He put the tulip at the corner of the window before he sat there for a bit.
He wanted to admire Beomgyu's features for a few more minutes. He smiled to himself, watching Beomgyu create stuff in his computer, his fingers swiftly clicking on the mouse and keyboard.
Over the years, even though he had a little knowledge of human life, he still found out that Beomgyu was making music as a dream, a degree, and as his future job. He was so happy when he heard years ago that Beomgyu's parents allowed him to take his most wanted course instead of taking over his family's company. They've come to an agreement that his older brother will take over since he was more talented in the business world.
The minutes turned into hours and Taehyun knew he should be heading back by now, but he couldn't help it when his human was even more alluring on the warm fairy lights that he decorated on his ceiling.
Taehyun sighed, there were only two and a half hours left before midnight and his stomach was rumbling. He stood up, prepping his wings by extending them upwards. A few gold pixie dust were falling as he eyed Beomgyu for the last time tonight.
"Good night, Beomgyu." He whispered too softly.
He turned around, about to fly up when suddenly, the window closed with a loud bang and the tulip almost got crushed on the side. It wasn't Taehyun's biggest concern for now, so instead, he looked up.
Horror and fear filled Taehyun's eyes, blood draining when the most despised enemy of the fairies was right above him. It was Beomgyu's Amazon parrot. He was clinging to the window's lock.
Wasn't he sleeping inside his cage? Right, Taehyun forgot, Beomgyu literally taught him how to open his own cage!
Taehyun gasped, stepping backwards, raising his hands although he knew his powers wouldn't make Toto back off. The bird started squawking loudly, dipping his head down to crush Taehyun with his beak.
"Toto, no!"
Taehyun ran off, skipping at the edge of the furniture before he flew off. He literally forgot about the human who was busy with his computer.
Toto flew behind him, chasing Taehyun and even if he flew super fast, no doubt the bird could catch him because of how big and strong his wings were. He searched for a safe place but there was none, and all of a sudden, Toto lunged forward with his feet, one of them managed to grab Taehyun's left wing, crushing the top of his forewing.
Taehyun winced in pain, crying out loud. He was losing his sense of direction and his left wing wasn't responding well. He was slowly falling down, Toto was still chasing him until he landed on top of Beomgyu's bed, right beside his pillow.
"Stop, you're gonna get bad dreams if you eat m-me.."
Toto squawked again as if mocking him before stepping closer and dipping his beak.
"I said s-stop!" Taehyun yelled but it was of no use.
Toto leaned down, opening his beak and Taehyun couldn't do anything but shrink into Beomgyu's pillows. He closed his eyes, accepting his fate, and locking his darn unrequited love.
But, then.. maybe it was time that Taehyun believed fate worked in a different way.
"Toto? Stop it- you're chasing a butterfly this time?"
Taehyun froze when he heard that voice. His cries stopped, couldn't figure what was happening. And so he opened his eyes after a good one minute. This time, his view wasn't filled with a dangerous green creature. Rather, he came face to face with the human. His human. His pointed nose was only a few inches away from Taehyun.
"O-Oh.. you're.. you aren't a butterfly, are you?"
Was all of this real? He was in front of Beomgyu? The love of his life was talking to him with his full attention stuck and directed only to him.
Suddenly..
"WAHHHHHHHH! OH HOLY DAMN! WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU?! WHERE DID YOU-"
The human stopped when they both heard his mom from outside, "Yah, Choi Beomgyu shut the hell up, will you?! Go back to bed!"
Beomgyu panicked before he turned, "Y-Yeah! I will!"
Just after that, silence coated the room. Beomgyu was still looking at the door while Taehyun looked up at him. Fear was all that he could show because no matter how much he loved Beomgyu, the guy was still a human and he just found a creature on his bed that was only supposed to exist in story books. Beomgyu's reaction a minute ago already took the wrong turn.
Taehyun had to do something. He had to escape, leave. He can't let this get worse. However, life was full of surprises and so he saw Beomgyu jump off his bed and rummage through his desk. He came back with a magnifying glass in his hand. Taehyun was too dumbfounded to leave when Beomgyu moved it closer to Taehyun's wing.
"Oh, shit." He muttered. "My parrot did this?"
Taehyun looked up at him before he dumbly nodded his head. He was still afraid and so he shrunk further in the pillows, and since Beomgyu was a giant for Taehyun, he couldn't help but get scared of how near he was.
"Hey, hey, it's okay. I'm not gonna hurt you.." Beomgyu whispered as if he knew his voice would startle the poor creature.
Taehyun was shocked due to every movement the human made towards him. Two of Beomgyu's point fingers came closer and he whispered, "It's okay. Let me take care of you."
Those words did so many things to Taehyun's heart. It was beating roughly as he made skin to skin contact with Beomgyu for the first time in years. The human took him, making Taehyun sit on his finger as he slowly walked towards his desk.
He placed two cotton balls beside his keyboard and gently laid Taehyun there.
"Tell me, how do I help?" Beomgyu asked.
Taehyun had to set his feelings aside for now, he had to respond. He was still shocked that Beomgyu was actually talking to him when he could've gotten worse reactions, he knew his beloved had a dramatic ass when pulled in a situation like this.
"My forewing was crooked. I couldn't fly.."
Beomgyu's eyebrows furrowed, he was weirded out when Taehyun opened his mouth to speak, he only heard soft tinkles like a small bell was being shaken.
"Sorry, w-what was that? I couldn't hear you." Beomgyu said.
Taehyun realised that as well. He was so small that Beomgyu couldn't hear his voice and that saddened him a bit. Beomgyu could see his expression and he felt bad, but he didn't know what to do. Taehyun was only as tall as Beomgyu's pinky finger, and if ever he could help, he knew it wouldn't be much.
They stayed like that in silence, Taehyun's eyes started to droop. Tiredness and sleepiness took over him.
Beomgyu was searching on his computer, he opened websites and found pictures of creatures like Taehyun. He typed more stuff as he said, "I am now a hundred percent sure that you're a fairy even though I still couldn't believe you exist."
"Y-Yes, I am.." Taehyun replied sleepily.
Beomgyu heard soft tinkles once again which made him smile, "I take that as yes."
Taehyun caught a glimpse of the human's pretty smile before he finally fell asleep. Letting Beomgyu's presence keep some warmth.
As Beomgyu searched stuff about fairy wings, he glanced down and saw the fairy asleep. His eyes softened, his heart stuttering at the cuteness and so he rummaged through his drawers to cut a piece of cloth, improvising to make a blanket for the fairy.
"This will do," he mumbled while laying the dark green soft cloth on Taehyun's body. He smiled when the fairy snuggled to it and Beomgyu attempted to look closer, only for him to sniff Taehyun's scent.
He widened his eyes a bit and said..
"I- I know that fragrance."
~
Taehyun woke up to a squawking sound and some scolding.
"How could you do that to the poor fairy? That's it. I'm not feeding you until dinner."
The squawking grew louder and only then Taehyun remembered where he fell asleep last night. He shot up from his lying position, only to feel the throbbing pain from his back that was connected to his wings.
"Ouch! That hurts a lot.." He said.
Beomgyu must have heard some soft tinkles again because he quickly turned around and almost jumped to his chair, startling the heck out of the fairy.
"Hi, little one! Good morning." Beomgyu greeted and Taehyun was melting down from his gaze.
"Good morning." Taehyun said, which made Beomgyu smile.
"Your tinkling sounds are so cute," He said. "I'm assuming you greeted me back."
Taehyun smiled but when Toto suddenly came into view, flying here and there behind Beomgyu, Taehyun gasped, stepping back before he hid behind Beomgyu's keyboard.
"Hey, don't worry. I gave him a lecture already. Toto won't hurt you anymore."
Beomgyu could still see the doubt on the fairy's face and so he gently picked him up, "It's okay. I'll protect you."
The assurance wasn't helping Taehyun's poor heart at all, and the closeness of Beomgyu's face was making Taehyun want to touch his soft skin.
"I did some research last night but it wasn't helping, so I'm just gonna ask you." Beomgyu said to him, "Will your forewing regrow?"
Taehyun nodded cutely, and Beomgyu cooed inwardly.
"Will it only take a short time?"
Taehyun shook his head, and Beomgyu knew it would take a little longer.
"I.. I need your help." The fairy said, but Beomgyu didn't understand.
So the fairy walked across his desk and pointed at the scissors, Beomgyu knew it right away.
"What?! You want me to cut your wing-"
The human shut himself up when he heard Taehyun's fast tinkling sounds which he assumed that the fairy was rambling fast.
"No! Just the crooked part. I need you to cut it for me so it will regrow. If I don't cut it now, I will have a crooked forewing forever."
Beomgyu took the scissors into his hand, "I don't know what you're saying but if you want this, okay then. The least I could do is to help you."
Taehyun explained to Beomgyu only using some gestures and the human only spoke to confirm it. Who knows, he might cut off his entire wings.
"So.. I will cut half-" He heard tinkles again and Taehyun was vigorously shaking his tiny head.
"Uh.. just the crooked part? The top?"
Taehyun finally smiled and nodded. Beomgyu sighed in relief and said, "Okay then. Stay still, we'll do it fast."
Taehyun sat on a cotton ball as Beomgyu held his damaged wing with a steady hand. The fairy heard a cut and a snap from his nerves and it was painful enough for him to wince. Every vein on his wings were connected to his back and so he started to whimper, squirming a bit as he heard another cut.
Beomgyu worriedly continued. The faster he did it, the faster the pain would end. "I- I'm sorry, little one. I wish I could take the pain away from you."
His soothing voice somehow calmed the fairy, his cries softened. By the time Beomgyu finished cutting the top of his forewing, Taehyun was sniffling, wiping his tears away.
"There. It's okay.." Beomgyu whispered.
Taehyun looked up at him with a small smile, "Thank you."
Beomgyu smiled back, leaning down to Taehyun's level, "Anything for my pretty fairy who had been with me all these years."
Mentioning that, Taehyun's eyes widened and the human wouldn't need a magnifying glass to see the shock on the fairy's face. Beomgyu chuckled, patting Taehyun's head with his pinky finger.
"I recognize your scent, so don't be surprised. Also, I saw a small tulip at my window, it was from you, wasn't it?"
Taehyun remained speechless, pouting, and Beomgyu found his reaction endearing.
"You were also the one who left all those flowers on my window through the years, weren't you? I mean- who else would leave them there when our gates were closed and guarded and no one had ever managed to climb up my room which was on the second floor. So.. I kind of connected the dots."
Taehyun gained back his sanity, looking away with flushed cheeks, "Yeah. It was me.."
His tinkles were softer this time which made Beomgyu grin, "Aw, are you shy now? You're so tiny and cute."
Oh, Taehyun wished he could shove the human off. The blush went up to his ears and Beomgyu must have noticed it and the latter pointed it out quickly.
"Little one, you're blushing too much."
"Yah! Can't you back up a little." Taehyun exclaimed.
Beomgyu grinned even more, leaning down closer as he whispered, "Thank you. Those flowers made me happy. Your scent is also very calming and a little sweet."
His words were enough to let Taehyun know that all this time, his flowers and hard work paid off. He walked forward, before he leaned down and placed his hand on top of Beomgyu's thumb.
"I'm so happy that now.. you know I exist."
Taehyun was aware. He was aware that Beomgyu couldn't fully understand him. But at least Beomgyu could pick up that he was saying a good message. The human fondly looked down at him, but then they heard his mother call him for breakfast.
He quickly stood up, a bit panicking as he said, "I need to go now. My window is open so you can leave whenever you want, or if you want to wait, I'll come quickly after I finish eating."
Taehyun nodded and was bewildered when Beomgyu ruffled his hair with his pinky finger, smiling softly and giggling when the fairy looked up at him with wide eyes. Taehyun's poor heart was palpitating which caused for his breathe to hitch.
After that, Beomgyu was out of the door in a flash.
~
"We were so worried when you didn't appear in the garden earlier!"
Kai and Soobin were scolding him and all could Taehyun think was Beomgyu's kind actions. He was combusting with so much love while his friends were combusting with so much anger.
"What did we tell you, Taehyun? We told you it was dangerous."
"Now your wing is broken."
Taehyun didn't tell them the part where Beomgyu finally knew he existed. If he did, they would laugh at him and think it was a joke. Or maybe they will tell him that he was being delusional.
"It will regrow."
"Yeah? For like two to three weeks!" Soobin exclaimed.
"Don't worry too much. I'll be fine." Taehyun assured, hugging his taller friends. "I'll figure something out. You guys know how good I am with potions and pixie dust. Right?"
"We know," Kai said, patting his back. "We're asking you to be careful. We know how adventurous you are, so.. it's kinda difficult to keep an eye on you."
They all laughed after that. Taehyun was so thankful to have Soobin and Kai as his best friends.
It was late in the afternoon when he came back to Beomgyu's room. With so much struggle in flying, he kept losing his direction but still managed to land on the window.
Really, Taehyun would do extremes in the name of love. And so, he called out to Beomgyu.
"Beomgyu!"
The latter turned quickly, hearing the tinkling sound. He smiled widely and skipped towards the window.
"Little one! I knew you'd come back." He giggled, opening his palm and Taehyun stepped on it. He felt so secure in the human's presence despite knowing that he was just a mere summer fairy. He had known Beomgyu for years and he couldn't help but allow himself to be drawn closer to the human.
Beomgyu walked towards his desk with Taehyun standing on his palm. He watched as the fairy's wings mildly fluttered and Beomgyu frowned at it.
"I'm really sorry about your wing," Beomgyu said, "I didn't realize Toto could harm such a beautiful creature like you."
Taehyun's ears perked up at that, whipping his head and giving Beomgyu a perplexed look.
"Me? A beautiful creature?" He muttered while slowly pointing his little finger to himself. Beomgyu understood it quickly and grinned at how cute the fairy's expression was, "Yes, little one. You are beautiful. How come you didn't think of that?"
Taehyun just shrugged, ignoring the heat running up his cheeks because, damn, the love of his life just called him beautiful and it twisted his insides.
"You know, I'm still shell-shocked that creatures like you actually exist. It may not look that obvious on my face but I'm really fascinated by your appearance and how tiny you look. Geez, your silver hair looks cool as well. And wow! Is that a petal you're wearing? I have a lot of questions like.. can you do magic? Do you have powers like those in books-"
Beomgyu finally stopped rambling when he heard those cute tinkling bells whenever the fairy opened his lips to speak or giggle or laugh. He was quickly getting used to it which he actually found very angelic.
Taehyun was giggling so much because of his questions and Beomgyu sheepishly looked away for a bit. He was weirded out by himself when he found the tiny fairy's giggles and pretty smile insanely attractive. He blamed it on the creature's heavenly astonishing facial features.
"And also.. I wanna know your name," Beomgyu said, finally looking back. "I bet you already know my name but lemme just introduce myself anyway."
Taehyun nodded, fiddling with his fingers as he looked up. Beomgyu smiled, "My name is Choi Beomgyu."
Soft tinkles once again, and Beomgyu knew the fairy acknowledged it. Taehyun's eyes roamed around Beomgyu's desk and he found some sticky notes and a very tall pencil. The human watched him curiously as the fairy rushed here and there, he came back with the things he found. He sat down on a cotton ball that the human left for him.
He started writing with a little trouble since the pencil was too heavy for him. Beomgyu peeked and found a few letters on the note.
Taehyun finished it, dropping the pencil and grabbing the sticky note. He flew up, remembering his injured wing. He gave Beomgyu the note and the latter squinted his eyes on it, trying to read the wavy and not so perfectly aligned letters.
"Tae.. hyun?"
Beomgyu glanced at him and he was nodding repeatedly, "That's your name? Taehyun?"
Taehyun smiled sweetly, suddenly shy under the human's captivating gaze.
"That's a lovely name, little one."
Never in a million chances that the mere fairy would be able to choose his fate and be with the human. Although his pure love for Beomgyu was something great and out of this world, it seemed like it was still not enough for the universe to take pity on him and give him a chance.
Taehyun stayed there for hours, watching and listening to the human's never ending rants and stories about his experiences mainly about his life as a student and the differences between his hometown and the city of Seoul. Beomgyu never ran out of topics and the fairy enjoyed every second, every minute, and every hour they spent together. He just hopes that Beomgyu felt the same way even though all he did was listen to him.
He badly wanted to talk about his fairy life as well but he doubted Beomgyu would understand anything because the human could only hear soft tinkles and not his actual voice. It saddened them both but Beomgyu said that it was fine.
Taehyun rearranged the cotton balls and cloth that he was sitting on while Beomgyu went out for a bit. He came back to his room while slamming the door shut. Taehyun was startled when the human hurriedly asked him to fly down to his bed and the fairy obliged.
"I brought some food. I'm not sure if fairies will like these but you should give it a try. Just spit it out if you don't like it," Beomgyu said.
Taehyun tilted his head and Beomgyu cooed at the sight, "Ey. Don't give me that look. Come on, take a bite."
He eyed the plate on Beomgyu's hand and the chopsticks that he was holding. Taehyun curiously looked up at the human, then at the food, then back to the human.
"Oh, shit. Right, I keep forgetting you're too tiny."
Beomgyu smacked his head before deciding to feed the fairy. He skillfully dug the chopsticks and plucked a piece of food, making it as small as possible so it would fit in the fairy's mouth.
Taehyun dipped his head and took small bites of the food, slowly savouring it before Beomgyu saw his eyes lit up cutely.
"You like it?"
It would seem that the fairy did like it because he didn't hear Beomgyu and kept biting and chewing on the food. "Aww, you like it. This is called cheese tteokbokki by the way."
"Cheese tteokbokki.." the fairy muttered to himself before chewing again.
The sight was endearing and Beomgyu's heart fluttered, overwhelmed by the little beauty in front of him. How dare nature hide Taehyun from him all these years? Or was it the fairy himself who decided on it? Whatever the reason was, he let it slip off his mind. As of now, he happily fed the summer fairy.
Underneath Beomgyu's sincere and captivating eyes, he knew to himself he was seeing the fairy a little more different than just some creature he discovered and was curious about. But he figured it was too early to put a meaning to it already.
Beomgyu decided to let the time flow.
~
It went smoother for the two in the incoming days and weeks of the bright summer.
Opening Beomgyu's window the entire time wasn't just a habit anymore. It became a purpose.
As for the fairy, quickly finishing his job with nature went a little faster that he always finished his tasks before any other fairy could do so. He couldn't help the wonder and excitement knowing that a certain human was waiting for him. It became a routine for Taehyun to be diligent and do tasks in a flash and then visit Beomgyu with a single flower in his arms.
Taehyun knew it was a little dangerous considering that the green Amazon parrot was still there, watching Taehyun while he spent time with his handsome owner. Oh, the fairy could only stick his tongue out childishly on the bird.
It had been a little over four weeks now and Beomgyu's been so happy having the fairy to keep him company. His summer grew brighter and after he would spend time with his family, he would rush back into his room and see the fairy play some games on his phone. Taehyun would either use his tiny feet or hands when he would come across an intense mobile game on the human's phone.
Sometimes, Beomgyu would come in and see Taehyun patiently sitting on top of his cotton balls while waiting for him. There were also times that he would come in just in time as the fairy flew in from his window.
"Watch me beat you at Mario Kart!" Beomgyu exclaimed while Taehyun flew up swiftly to his face.
"I'll make you regret your words, Choi Beomgyu." Taehyun snapped with full determination on his expression. Until today, Beomgyu wasn't able to hear him but only the tinkles. However, the strong connection between them made the human understand things, especially the fairy's expressions.
"Oh, please, Taehyunnie. You're facing the master of that game." He smugly replied.
Taehyun huffed, flying down to his controller. He stood on it since it was too big for him but he could definitely smash his hands and feet on it while Beomgyu held his controller in his gigantic hands. The game started and it was a fierce match. Beomgyu was indeed a master of it but no doubt the fairy was good as well. Blame the human for teaching him these things.
Over the past weeks, the two had their own little adventures in Beomgyu's humble room while Taehyun's forewing regrew healthily.
Their game continued and Beomgyu badly wanted to win because it would be a shame to lose to a newbie fairy. Taehyun was violently smashing his tiny fists on the buttons of the controller and the human couldn't help but to side-glance at him. He chuckled at the natural cuteness of the little being, a pout was formed on his lips and his wide eyes were staring daggers at the flatscreen TV.
It became a distraction and Beomgyu didn't even notice himself staring at the fairy, whole-heartedly forgetting about the game until he heard the glorious tinkling sounds which made him snap out of his daydream.
"The hell-"
"Yay! I won!" Taehyun exclaimed, standing above his controller and mindlessly stepping on the buttons. "Take that, Choi! Wahhhhhhh! I won, I won!"
Beomgyu remained stunned, and couldn't believe that he lost the most awaited round. But maybe it was worth it, seeing Taehyun flap his wings and gold pixie dust were scattering behind him.
Taehyun was so happy, and so was Beomgyu.
As the fairy finally calmed down, he was caught under the human's gaze. The same gaze that brought a mix of emotions in him, the presence that Taehyun dreamed for so long. Those brown orbs delivered subtle messages and the fairy wished to hear each of those.
"I love how tiny you are, Taehyun.." He watched as Beomgyu's lips parted. He was going to say something else, "I just wish you were bigger so we could do more things together."
That made the fairy furrow his eyebrows. He had a confused face but he definitely knew what Beomgyu meant by that.
"Please, don't take it the wrong way. I truly like you and who you are, I just said that because there are so many things out there in this world that I want for you to try and see." Beomgyu stated clearly, seeing the shift on the fairy's face. "But I couldn't risk that. I might lose you while we try to be adventurous."
Beomgyu's words brought two emotions to Taehyun: first was the heart-fluttering words, second was the fear.
Taehyun knew Beomgyu only had a month left before his break would end. He will soon go back to Seoul, he wasn't ready for it and so he feared it. Actually, Beomgyu might only have two to three weeks left because he told Taehyun that he still needed the remaining week to prepare for his enrollment.
Last month, Taehyun must say it was the best days of his life. The universe allowed him to officially meet his love and he was already so lucky that he got to spend time with him.
After another hour that night, he bid goodbye to Beomgyu with a heavy heart.
~
Taehyun didn't think it would affect him much.
He found himself locked inside his cottage for the next three days. He was rummaging through books, making his research the old-fashion way.
He had three failed attempts of brewing dangerous potions and he knew the elders would punish him if they found out and so he kept it a secret.
"I just wish you were bigger so we could do more things together."
Those words never left Taehyun's mind. He was determined. He was on his fifth attempt when he did his research again, scooping chemicals and extracts from plants.
"Oh.. my.." Taehyun mumbled as he slowly removed his goggles. Staring down at the potion with red and blue hues.
"This has gotta be it."
He hadn't shown himself up to Beomgyu for the past three days and he knew the latter would be worried and might think Taehyun got upset after that night. But, no. Taehyun would never be upset with him. He just found another way to fulfil his love's wish.
He took the potion in his hand and drank it. He waited for a few minutes after that but nothing happened. He was so confused because he didn't feel anything, not something bad and not something good.
Taehyun sighed, dejectedly going out of his cottage and flying straight to Beomgyu's window.
This time, he brought a magenta lilac.
Beomgyu's window was wide-opened. Just then the fairy knew he waited for him. He flew inside, placing the flower on Beomgyu's vase. He looked at the bed, sadly smiling when he found the human already sleeping so soundly.
"I'm sorry for being late.." He whispered as he flew towards the bed, his wings drooped behind him as he stood on the side of Beomgyu's pillow. The latter was sleeping like a log and his left cheek was smashed into the pillow, his long hair was a mess.
Taehyun sighed, pressing a kiss at the tip of Beomgyu's nose. Watching him sleep made Taehyun yawn, and so he decided to sleep beside Beomgyu. Just on top of the pillow.
~
The next day came.
It was a very peaceful and misty morning. Beomgyu turned to his side, still half-asleep as he squinted his eyes, flinging his arms to the side.
His arched brows furrowed when he heard someone groan. He must be hearing things.
Maybe it was the effect of being sleepless for the past three days as he waited for Taehyun to come back.
Suddenly..
"Beomgyu.. can you move a bit..? I'm trying to sleep-"
He was definitely hearing things, however, he could feel a sleeping figure beside him. The familiar fragrance was filling his senses which made him instantly shot his eyes open.
Right before him, a silver-haired boy was sleeping.
1.. 2.. 3..
"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"
His scream made the silver-haired jolt up with widened doe eyes. He turned to look at Beomgyu and that somehow managed to instantly shut him up.
There came into his view the familiar features of the summer fairy. Fluffy silver hair, light brown doe eyes, angled nose and pretty lips. That's when he also noticed the sewn petal that served as the boy's clothing with grape vines as belts and straps. Then up to the daisy flower sitting on his ear, his wings were droopy behind him.
"Taehyun?"
Beomgyu couldn't believe this, nor did Taehyun. He looked down on himself then back at Beomgyu. They were almost the same height now just by sitting on the bed.
"B-Beomgyu?"
Well, damn. That did wonders to Beomgyu's heart. He finally heard Taehyun's soft and gentle voice. The fairy scrambled up from the bed all of a sudden, his now big wings gained back their strength, they extended upwards beautifully but as Taehyun moved around, his wings swiped some objects everywhere.
"Taehyun, wait-"
"W-What's this.. what happened?" He started panicking, resulting in more objects to be swept off.
"Hey, c-calm down first.."
"YAH! CHOI BEOMGYU?!" They heard his mom yell followed by some footsteps.
Beomgyu hurriedly stood up. Dragging Taehyun with him towards his bathroom, careful enough not to harm him and his wings. His mom burst through the door just in time.
"Beomgyu, what's going on here? What's with the mess?" His mom looked around.
Taehyun was shaking behind him while Beomgyu only peeked his head out, "Hi, Mom. Hehe.. I was just doing stuff and panicked a bit."
"You gotta clean this mess." His mom commanded sternly.
"Yep! Yep! After I.. I take a s-shower.."
His mom eyed him suspiciously before finally leaving and closing the door. Beomgyu sighed, leaning his back against the door as he made eye contact with Taehyun.
"So.. you're human-sized now.."
"I.. I'm sorry I didn't come by the past few days, I've been busy experimenting with something. Remember h-how you said you wish I was bigger? I made potions to try it out and it took me so long because of the failed attempts but.. here I am now.. I guess."
The fairy's rambling unbelievably sunk in Beomgyu's mind as he examined the beauty in front of him. Then it snapped in his mind.
"I don't know anything about fairy potions but, Taehyun, that was kind of dangerous to you." Beomgyu worriedly said.
Taehyun's wings drooped once again as he looked away, "Well, I wanted to spend more time with you and try those human things you said were fun."
Beomgyu's heart softened at that, he found himself reaching forward and his right hand caressed Taehyun's cheek. They locked gazes with a very close proximity.
"You look heavenly."
Something about Beomgyu's words reflected a deeper meaning behind his brown eyes, Taehyun hoped he was reading it correctly. For now, those unspoken feelings were appreciated in silence.
"Do you want to go out with me?" Beomgyu asked while leaning closer, "There are so many things to try here in Daegu. I'll be going back to Seoul very soon so we can try as many as you want, little one."
Taehyun couldn't keep his mind off of that topic. Knowing well that Beomgyu already scheduled his departure. They only had little time left. He had to enjoy it, cherish and treasure it.
~
The fairy showed Beomgyu the coolest side of his powers.
Purple pixie dust appeared in Taehyun's palms and Beomgyu watched as he sprinkled it on top of his head, the dust trickling down his body. Slowly, Taehyun's wings dissipated, the glow in his light brown eyes softened, his pointy ears turned shorter. Now, he looked like a normal human being.
Beomgyu was shocked to discover this and Taehyun chuckled at his reaction.
"The potion will only last for five days so I will become small again. I can just make more of those," He explained. "As for my appearance, I can just easily transform it again."
Not wasting any more time, Beomgyu made sure to make his fairy happy on those days.
He brought him outside and to the humbleness of his hometown. They tried many things with the human guiding Taehyun as he discovered and learned new things. Beomgyu brought him to malls, amusement parks, arcade hours, made him try more human food, binged watched K-dramas and played video games, he even taught soccer to the fairy, he also taught him how to take pictures with a cellphone and a polaroid camera. He even introduced Taehyun to his family with a little twisted story. He also met Choi Yeonjun, his human's one and only best friend from Seoul.
All those days were filled with every memory that Beomgyu had to engrave in his mind forever. He knew it. He knew he was already down bad for the fairy even when he was just a small being.
Those seconds he watched the fairy giggle and smile at him. His eyes were bright and sparkling and Beomgyu was glad he was the one who brought such happiness to the beautiful creature. It dawned on him when he was chasing Taehyun at the shoreline. Their feet drenched in water, they hadn't felt as ecstatic as now with their smiles only for each other. Hearts palpitating as their hands intertwined, fitting every curve and space of their palms. As if they were only made for each other.
"Hyung, why are you looking at me like that?"
That's right. Beomgyu demanded to be called 'hyung' after he found out that Taehyun was a year younger than him. The fairy rolled his eyes but still gave in.
"Why? Can't I just appreciate how beautiful you are?"
Beomgyu knew all the ways to make Taehyun shut up in embarrassment. The older one cooed when Taehyun looked away, cheeks and ears tinted in a hue of red.
"Aw, Taehyunnie, you should've gotten used to the compliments by now."
"W-Whatever, hyung."
Beomgyu laughed out loud as they walked together. The far end of the beach was getting nearer and there were no other people staying there. Later they sat on the huge rocks as they watched the sun dip at the horizon. The sky above it was spreading hues of pink, yellow, orange, and baby blue.
Their feet were lazily swirling the water beneath the rocks as Beomgyu stole a few glances from Taehyun who was admiring the scenery. The nerve-wrecking feeling never faded but both were somehow experts in keeping calm faces. But those stares definitely held the truth, what exactly they felt towards each other.
"Can you transform back?" Beomgyu asked, slightly pursing his lips.
Taehyun gave him a raised eyebrow, "Why? Someone might see me, hyung."
Beomgyu gestured for the fairy to look around, "There's no one here besides us. Come on, Hyun. Lemme see those pretty wings!"
Taehyun giggled, playfully shoving the older, "Why do you suddenly want me to transform? Did you hit your head?"
The fairy only earned a pout to which he laughed loudly. Beomgyu couldn't help but smile either as he sounded so angelic.
"It's because.. I did wish to have you like this but, I love who exactly you are. I love those wings of yours that ranged in colours of green at the outer parts that slowly lightened and changed in yellow connecting to your back. Those little white glowing dots on the edges were really cute, just like your pointy ears. The spark in your eyes was astonishing while you let me see the real you."
Beomgyu's words sent an electrifying current down Taehyun's veins, his lips parted, couldn't utter something after the older described him with such words he never thought he would receive in his entire life. His heart was combusting wildly.
His hands dug in his pocket, pulling a good amount of purple pixie dust. He was about to shower it to himself but he felt Beomgyu's hands stopping him.
"Let me.." Beomgyu whispered.
Gently, the dust was transferred in his hands and he slowly poured it on Taehyun, watching as his ears grew pointy and his wings finally came into view. Beomgyu admired his transformation before he leaned a little closer which caused Taehyun's cheeks to flare up.
He craned Taehyun's face by gently gripping his sharp jaw. Their gazes locked once again as Beomgyu spoke, "I've been wanting to ask you about something, Taehyunnie."
"What is it?"
In Beomgyu's honest eyes, Taehyun was beyond ethereal. All about the fairy was too much for the human's heart. He's been thinking about something for quite awhile now.
"Do you love me?"
It was like everything crumbled down in a heartbeat. Taehyun's eyes grew wide, the sudden internal panic was visible on his face and Beomgyu instantly grew worried. Taehyun's breath hitched and ghosted over Beomgyu's lower lip and chin.
"Beomgyu.. I.. I.. how did you.."
His reaction and lack of words made Beomgyu stare lovingly. "My mom has a collection of books about flowers. For the past six years, from the first flower up until the recent one you gave me, I learned their meanings. I know you don't just choose them to give me just because they're beautiful. I mean.. why else would you give me those?"
Taehyun's breath was now shaking. He never thought that Beomgyu didn't only admire the flowers, he studied them. Each of them.
"The last one you gave me after you transformed for the first time.. was a magenta lilac," Beomgyu leaned to the fairy's ear, only leaving a little space between them.
"It symbolizes love and passion. You gave it to me to deliver the message," the older boy hummed, his lips hovering under Taehyun's ear. "Tell me whether I'm right or wrong."
Taehyun remained speechless. He was afraid. He never thought they would reach this part where he had to actually confess his unrequited love. But with the way Beomgyu held him, touched him, and leaned on to him, there's gotta be more to it.
"Please tell me because.. I can feel it." Beomgyu placed a chaste kiss on Taehyun's cheek, pulling him until he was practically letting his legs lay on top of Beomgyu's lap.
"..and I feel the same way."
The continuous shock painted on the fairy's face and his wings were flapping in joy and excitement although his expression never shifted. Beomgyu could only chuckle softly.
"Say something, Taehyun." Beomgyu demanded with a pout, obviously starting to grow shy.
That was until Beomgyu backed up a bit when Taehyun surged forward, pulling the older by his nape to connect their lips for the first time. His wings were glowing and fluttering, his scent was enveloping them sweetly. The realization that it was their first kiss together made Beomgyu close his eyes, relishing the softness of Taehyun's lips on his.
Taehyun hummed, gently nibbling the other's lower lip and when he heard Beomgyu groan softly, he leisurely pulled away.
Smiling weakly, Taehyun stifled a laugh as he watched Beomgyu's dazed look.
"Does that answer your question?"
~
That day at the beach brought them even closer to each other. They spent hours just talking to each other, lazily lounging in Beomgyu's room as they shared late night talks. Serious and funny ones. Beomgyu told Taehyun his future plans, secretly hoping that the fairy knew Beomgyu wanted him to be there as well.
Toto was nowhere in sight, probably squawking in Beomgyu's older brother's room. Much to Taehyun's delight because he still despised that parrot for nearly swallowing him.
Laying down on Beomgyu's bed, they would stare at the ceiling that was adorned with fairy lights. Their soft voices coating the four walls.
A sad smile drew on Taehyun's lips and the human instantly noticed it since he was staring at him since who knows when.
"What's wrong?" Beomgyu muttered, propping up an elbow and placing his head there while staring down at Taehyun.
"You're leaving in two days," Taehyun said. "I'm gonna miss this."
Summer was ending, the air started to shift and there was little pitter-patter of rain outside. The mist and dew were there, painting a fog on Beomgyu's window.
"I'm going to miss you. Us."
Beomgyu's heart shattered at the pain in Taehyun's voice, he knew he couldn't bear to leave the fairy either but he had to. His dream and work was waiting for him. He had to go back to Seoul.
The older leaned down, dipping his head to kiss Taehyun and the latter gladly accepted him. Taehyun gasped as he felt Beomgyu's tongue only to remember the older's reminder that Taehyun should let him guide during a longer kiss.
"Open up," Beomgyu muttered between the kiss, his voice low and deep.
Taehyun obliged, slowly parting his lips and Beomgyu helped him by swiftly shoving his tongue down the younger's mouth. He pressed further, trailing a hand to Taehyun's waist while the other was bracing beside his head. Beomgyu's grip was firm but gentle, just enough to let the fairy feel his burning passion. He licked on Taehyun's lower lip before pushing further and exploring his entire cavern. Soft moans resonated the room as Beomgyu dropped his weight on top of Taehyun but still bracing a hand just to have a good pleasure coming from their bodies.
Beomgyu smiled in the middle of the kiss as he brought Taehyun's hands up to wrap them around his own neck and the latter obeyed and did his guide.
"Hyung.." Taehyun whimpered as he felt shivers coming down his body when Beomgyu's naughty hand slipped into the hoodie that he was wearing. It was the hoodie that the older insisted that he should wear because he looked super cute in it.
Beomgyu felt the smoothness as he roamed his hand on the younger's abdomen and to the curve of his waist, smirking into the kiss when Taehyun mindlessly tugged on his long hair. Secretly loving it. He hummed to respond to Taehyun's soft moans and whimpers as he plunged his tongue in and out, meeting the other's tongue and swiftly locking them together. He loved how his fairy complied with everything he did.
The older was getting hungrier that he badly wanted to taste more and ended up pushing his tongue the farthest until he practically had his tongue down Taehyun's throat.
"Beomgyu hyung.. wait-" Taehyun managed to say but Beomgyu unintentionally grinded down, his hips rolling that had Taehyun gasping and the older boy took it as a chance to slip his tongue back in, eager to pleasure him more. It drove Taehyun on edge as his mind was losing control of his body, knowing pretty well that it was his first time to intensely make out with someone. And that someone was the love of his life.
"Your lips are addicting," Beomgyu murmured with a tease, "Couldn't help it, babe." He chuckled before nibbling down on the side of Taehyun's lower lip.
After that, he trailed soft kisses down Taehyun's jaw until he reached his neck and the younger found himself tilting his head on the side so Beomgyu could taste more of his sensitive skin. He was writhing at Beomgyu's whispers of praise and compliments as he felt a hard suck on his collarbone while Beomgyu tugged on his hoodie.
He swirled his tongue on the same spot, biting down again which made Taehyun throw his head back and hold on to Beomgyu, pressing them together as Taehyun slightly pulled on his long hair. Beomgyu groaned lowly and trailed his tongue back up, leaving smaller marks on Taehyun's skin before he brought their lips together, connecting and locking them once again.
When they finally pulled away, Beomgyu was about to dip his head down again but Taehyun stopped him with a hand against his chest.
"Let me breathe.." The younger panted to which he earned a chuckle from the other.
He took in the image of Taehyun's flushed cheeks, his widened doe eyes and swollen lips, his hair was a slight mess. This time, Beomgyu left soft kisses on Taehyun's forehead and cheeks.
They stayed like that for some minutes, just staring at each other until Beomgyu said, "I have something for you."
Beomgyu rolled off of Taehyun and stood up, lending a hand to him to help him sit up.
Taehyun watched as Beomgyu turned to rummage into a paper bag that was sitting on top of his desk. He came back and was sheepishly looking at the side, his hands holding something behind him. Taehyun tilted his head in curiosity.
"What is it?" Taehyun asked, eagerly smiling.
Beomgyu scratched his nape, his lips quivering as he made eye contact with the younger.
"I- I got this for you.."
With a shaky hand, Beomgyu handed Taehyun a red chrysanthemum flower. The fairy's eyes widened as he received it in his hands while the human stared fondly at him.
"I know we only had a little time but.. with you, everything felt like a blur, it felt fast and slow at the same time. With you, everything is magical."
Slowly, little tears formed at the corner of Taehyun's eyes as Beomgyu lifted his free hand to kiss the fairy's knuckles and fingers.
"I picked this flower to show you that I'm passionate and deep in love with you and that I fell harder than I already was," Beomgyu softly said.
Taehyun smiled as tears flowed down his cheeks, his bright eyes turned into crescents. Beomgyu giggled at the cute sight and decided to attack the fairy with kisses.
"Wait- wait- hyung, stop! I have something for you, too," Taehyun defended himself but the older was halfway kissing his cheek.
"Oh, really?" That picked the other's interest, innocently blinking.
Taehyun nodded, placing the chrysanthemum flower on his lap for now. He lifted his hands, curving his fingers as blue pixie dust started to appear before their eyes. Beomgyu stared in wonder as a particular type of flower formed, levitating between them. Taehyun brought colour to it until the pixie dust disappeared and the flower slowly landed in his palms.
"Beomgyu hyung.. as what you already know," Taehyun spoke and the older could hear a tint of hesitation in his voice. "I have loved you for six years a-and.. I want to be honest with you. It's bad for a fairy."
The spark in the older's eyes vanished as he felt a pang in his heart, "W-What? Taehyun.. why.."
"Shh," Taehyun sadly smiled, he gave the flower to Beomgyu and held his hand. "Fairies can only fall in love once in a lifetime. This flower that I gave you.. is a pink primrose which means that.."
Taehyun gulped, afraid to finish his words. He knew from the very start that Beomgyu would be his first and last even if the latter didn't reciprocate what he felt.
"I can't live without you."
To say that Beomgyu was stunned would be an understatement. With the way Taehyun said it, he knew how different it was.
He meant it.. truly.
"Whether you keep on loving me or not in the future," Taehyun sniffled softly, "It will always be you for me. It's gotta be you and only you."
Beomgyu shook his head, disagreeing with Taehyun's first statement, "We don't hold what's ahead of us.. so I won't promise either. But I want you to know that I love you, Taehyun. I loved you, I love you, and I will love you. I'll be with you in the future, I'll make sure to always be by your side and protect you from this world of zero because I know you are my one and only."
Taehyun knew the older was a sweet stubborn brat, and so he chuckled, leaning his forehead against Beomgyu's while his heart pounded loudly and he just knew the other was encountering the same feeling.
"That's why.. I've got an extra train ticket."
"Eh?" Taehyun dumbly asked.
"I'm bringing you to Seoul with me." Beomgyu stated, eyes stoic and full of confidence. "You learned a lot here in Daegu so you'd be able to survive Seoul together with me. I- I have a cozy apartment there with lots of plants on the veranda."
There's one thing that the elders in Pixie Hollow agreed on. You can only leave the hollow when the being you're chasing reciprocated what you felt.
"Are you s-sure, hyung? About me going with you?"
Beomgyu tilted his head, "Are you?"
Taehyun pursed his lips and Beomgyu could see the suppressed excitement in his eyes as the older wiped away the fairy's tears.
"Wherever you go, hyung. I will follow," Taehyun said.
Their young hearts brought warmth to each other. Sure, they had a little time when their love bloomed. But that magical emotion worked in different ways along with fate. Beomgyu will go on extremes for his summer fairy, and Taehyun would've to bid goodbye to his friends, the elders, and Pixie Hollow. They could always come back after some months in Seoul.
As they leaned closer, there was a little glow as Beomgyu watched Taehyun's natural fairy features highlighted his blinding beauty.
"I love you, Beomgyu hyung."
"Taehyun, my summer fairy, I love you more."
As they held their flowers in their hands, they enveloped each other. Closing their eyes as they sealed the moment with a kiss.
The night was magical, and so were they.
Chapter Text
There was something that Taehyun decided not to tell Beomgyu.
For now, he wanted to keep it and lock it in his mind. He'll tell Beomgyu when he'll find the perfect timing and so that they could discuss it properly together. He was so happy knowing that he'll be going to Seoul with Beomgyu. The sudden news brought him to where he was at the moment.
"Seoul?! Taehyun, that's too far from Pixie Hollow!" Soobin exclaimed, starting to lecture the other fairy.
Taehyun looked away, pursing his lips as he avoided Soobin and Kai's gazes. He came to Soobin's cottage to talk to his friends, finding Kai on the crafting table while Soobin was brewing something. Basically, he surprised them in the middle of their work, quickly bringing up the news that he'll be leaving the hollow for some months.
"Taehyun, that's too dangerous. Don't let that human lead you to the chaos of this world," Soobin pointed out, trying to conceal his anger. He can never be angry with the younger one.
"Even if you can transform into a human appearance and learn more about their life, there's still so much more out there that we don't know and understand.." Kai softly trailed off, fiddling with a short stem in his hands. "That.. you don't understand."
"Please don't worry too much about me. Beomgyu will be there with me. We'll stay close together," Taehyun retorted.
Soobin sighed stressfully, turning around to clear some space in his mind. They all know that a fairy was allowed to leave once their love was reciprocated but as friends, they worried a lot for Taehyun.
"Beomgyu is a college student, Taehyun. He's going to be very busy with that kind of life. Notice how he never loved someone else before you? It's because he had no time for love."
Taehyun's lips quivered as he looked up at Soobin. He knew the older was only being a good friend and brother but listening to his chosen words, he felt a sting in his heart while thinking of the possibilities. Well talking about possibilities itself was already a complex thing. A lot could happen there in Seoul and Taehyun knew that very well.
Thinking about Beomgyu having no time to give his love was something that just pierced his heart a little too hard. It's not like he was doubting Beomgyu's love, rather, he was doubting how far they'll go together with each other's promises.
He kept his mouth shut for a moment. Just watching as Kai resumed crafting while Soobin minced some water lily roots that he had gathered earlier from the pond. He tossed them after into a flower cup before pouring a little amount of honey. Soobin glanced at Taehyun, sighing after he saw the fairy's saddened eyes and the drooping of his wings, their glow somehow shifted as they were influenced by his mood and feelings.
"Taehyun," Soobin snapped his fingers, gold pixie dust appeared in his left hand and he gently tossed them on the mixing bowl and spoon, to the mortar, and the transferring of some petals. "We know you are a hard-headed fairy when it comes to your human."
Without Soobin holding the objects, the dust made it possible for the mixing bowl to start spooning the ingredients by itself, same with the mortar crushing some seeds while the petals transferred themselves into a nearby tray.
"What I want you to know is that you and Beomgyu don't hold the future. Things could always change no matter how strong your love is. The elders made it clear that love between a fairy and another being rarely passes the challenges of life."
Taehyun raised an eyebrow, "Have you seen the elders? They are all single and they're going to die alone."
Kai snorted loudly from the side, almost smashing his fingers with a rock. "Holy flowers, Taehyun! That's the funniest thing I've heard from you-"
Seeing Soobin's deadly glare, Kai instantly zipped his mouth shut and turned around. Soobin looked at Taehyun to retell something, "Remember the legend of Two Seasons?"
"I've heard that a hundred times already," Taehyun replied. "I don't wanna hear it again."
"The winter fairy fell in love with a summer fairy, Taehyun." Soobin still decided to start off, hoping it would knock some sense into him. "They were of two different seasons and because they were far from each other, they had to meet between one season and share their love for each other."
"I don't see a connection of this to my dilemma." Taehyun deadpanned.
Soobin dragged a chair in front of the other fairy and Taehyun sighed dramatically, knowing that there would be another whole page of lecture for him. The older fairy sat down, the small crystal beads on his hair flickered in Taehyun's vision.
"What I want you to be reminded of, is that these two fairies didn't get to see each other every single day. Just like you and Beomgyu before," Soobin softly said but it affected Taehyun pretty hard.
"Love is not about seeing one another the longest and spending time until the hands on the clock stroke all of the numbers," Soobin added, watching as Taehyun's fingers slightly tremble. "You've gone through six years of Beomgyu not even knowing you exist. You've gone through that long of waiting for him until he comes back to spend his summer here in Daegu. You've gone through that long of just watching him from his opened window while he slept peacefully. But somehow, your flowers just reached him and it didn't even take long for him to fall for you despite knowing you are not a human."
Taehyun's lips quivered as he stayed silent. He remembered all of those dreadful days as he waited for the lovely human being.
Kai sat beside Taehyun, placing a gentle hand on the other's trembling ones. These three have been with each other for so long now even with their different specialties as fairies. Kai was a dream fairy, Soobin was a thinking fairy, and Taehyun was a potions fairy.
"You've survived watching him from afar, don't you think you could still do it.. for your own safety this time?" Kai asked slowly, "Seoul is already a big and unknown place for you, let alone stepping into the openness of the world. You know that Beomgyu could always come home in summer. Being away from him would just be the same as before...right?"
That's where Taehyun found his chance to speak, "Well, that's the thing. I don't have the strength to stay away from him anymore."
Soobin and Kai glanced at each other, getting worried even more but seeing Taehyun's small smile, they just know there's nothing that could stop him.
"And now that you've made it clear to me how dangerous the world is, it just made me want to stay closer to him. Protect him at all costs, love him until my very last breath. I don't care if the world is only against him, or only against me, we'll be there for each other. At least when something happens to him.. or to me.."
Taehyun thought of it carefully before he added, "We'd be together." The other two raised their eyebrows at him and he quickly said, "Or at least near each other! Hehe.."
Finally, that burst the bubble of tension as they broke in soft chuckles while nudging each other. Soobin shook his head before reaching up to mess Taehyun's silver hair.
"Well, seems like there would be nothing to stop you," Soobin fondly smiled at him, "It's amazing how you're both so passionate with each other. It's cute, inspiring, beautiful, and whatever."
Taehyun laughed as he stood up. The other two followed as they went outside the cottage. They joked around and teased each other about other random things and also telling Taehyun to be careful in new situations and even suggested to be confident and feel free to ask Beomgyu anything. His two best friends made sure he memorised their reminders and Kai kept wiping away his fake tears. Funny how after they scolded him, they still ended up wishing him good luck.
"You gotta work on your potions though," Kai commented as Soobin handed Taehyun a basket of some ingredients and well-brewed other stuff. "Find a way for them to work quicker so you wouldn't have to wait overnight or for a few hours."
"That's a good reminder. I will," Taehyun said. He looked at the two as they watched him with gloomy expressions. "So, uhh.."
"Wait a second!" Kai suddenly screamed, shocking the other two and a few of Soobin's neighbours. He was tapping on his pockets before he took out a medium-sized sphere. He grabbed Taehyun's hand and placed it there before forcefully closing his fingers to grasp it.
"Y-Your crystal ball?" Taehyun asked, bewildered.
"I'm not giving it to you, okay? I'm lending it so you can contact us if things go downhill. You can only use it twice and only if it's very, very necessary. Just hold the crystal and call for me." Kai instructed carefully.
"Thank you for all of this," Taehyun said, nodding to them before he was pulled in a warm hug. "I owe you guys a lot."
Soobin rubbed his back before tapping his shoulder, "Come back in one piece, yeah? Or we'll send the frogs to Beomgyu's room-"
Kai laughed out loud while Taehyun just nodded in approval.
Soon, Taehyun was edging towards the end of the hollow, glancing at his own cottage. He already made sure that he locked it earlier. He turned around before waving goodbye to his friends. He smiled widely before he flew off. He will definitely miss them along with Pixie Hollow.
Right now, he will focus on fulfilling his promises with Beomgyu. As he flew across the field, his mind started to wander far that he knew would cause him some overthinking.
He realised he had no idea what awaited him.
As Taehyun disappeared from his best friends' sight, Soobin quickly turned to Kai, "Please tell me you dreamed of something pleasant about them."
Being a dream fairy, his specialty was to see the future in his dreams and recently, Kai and Soobin had been relying on it to find out the possibilities of Taehyun and Beomgyu's future. It's not like they wanted to invade them, rather, they at least want to get a heads up of what's about to happen. But not all of Kai's dreams were accurate since it's very subjective as the future could always change.
Kai sighed, hesitant to speak as he looked at the other, "Hyung, I dreamed of them last night. It wasn't something good, it wasn't something bad either- well, actually, I'm not sure anymore."
"Just tell me," Soobin sternly replied.
"Someone else is about to find out Taehyun's not a human."
~
"Wahhh!"
A stranger screamed when Taehyun almost punched him square in the face. Beomgyu, who was too stunned to speak, still managed to speak on behalf of Taehyun as they earned a few weird stares from the people.
They were in the train and there were only a few minutes left before they arrived but something unexpected happened right before Taehyun's eyes. He saw the stranger's hand sneakily slipping through Beomgyu's jacket. This was also the reason why Beomgyu hated standing up in the train.
"I'm sorry. He didn't mean to-"
Beomgyu was cut off when Taehyun softly spoke to him, "Why are you apologising? He was going to touch you if I didn't yank him off."
"W-Why would I touch him?!" The stranger reacted quickly, "Are you high? I'm just standing here!"
Taehyun scoffed in amusement. He was about to snap back but Beomgyu tugged on his arm. The older shortly smiled at him before facing the stranger, "Sir, don't even try to lie further. I felt your filthy hand, you know."
The stranger was about to defend himself again but when he felt other people's whispers now talking shit about him, he suddenly felt the need to distance himself from the two. He ignored Beomgyu and gave Taehyun a death glare before he disappeared into the crowd.
Taehyun huffed in annoyance before he sneakily brought out his red pixie dust hidden just behind his mint green cardigan. He was going to flick a few of it towards the stranger because Taehyun definitely hated him and his face. Beomgyu caught sight of the dust, widening his eyes before he called the younger.
"Taehyun, don't even think about it." Beomgyu knew well how dangerous the red dust was. It was very itchy when it came in contact with a human's skin.
Taehyun's evil grin disappeared, turned into a pout but Beomgyu quickly turned away before he could give in. Just then the announcement of their arrival blasted from the train's speakers.
Just then Taehyun scooted closer to the older as he whispered, "What was he even doing, hyung? Touching someone like that would be a crime for us, fairies."
Beomgyu leaned sideways to reply, "He was going to steal my stuff, Hyun. Things like my cellphone, wristwatch, money, and some accessories. They have very swift hands, you know."
Taehyun innocently widened his eyes as Beomgyu continued, "This is Seoul, love. You still have a lot to learn about this place and don't worry. I'll be here to guide you."
A small smile crept onto the younger's lips and Beomgyu sighed in relief.
They finally arrived at the train station. Beomgyu quickly pulled Taehyun out before it got even more crowded. Taehyun was so mesmerised by the beauty of Seoul and Beomgyu saw how his eyes lit up every time he found something beyond his interests.
He was looking here and there while being dragged by Beomgyu. Just by walking, he found a lot of wonderful things. He saw children, adults, lovers, friends, and a whole class on a trip. He saw skyscrapers and other tall buildings, amusement parks like he saw in Daegu, bigger malls and even expensive cars zooming across the streets. When they took the bus, the sun was already setting as it painted the sky with pink and orange colours. Taehyun just couldn't stop staring at the window and Beomgyu would just chuckle at Taehyun's very detailed reactions.
Beomgyu squeezed Taehyun's hand as he leaned to his ear and whispered, "Beautiful, isn't it?"
Taehyun hummed before he said, "Not as beautiful as you."
To say that Beomgyu was shocked would be an understatement. He totally didn't expect Taehyun's comeback which caught him off guard. Taehyun looked behind, chuckling at his face.
"You should get used to it now, babe."
Beomgyu teasing Taehyun was a daily thing, but Taehyun teasing Beomgyu was a rare thing that you must watch. The older's ears turned red as he tried to hide his smile by pursing his lips.
"Aww, you get flustered too easily."
"Hey-"
He quickly shut up when Taehyun pecked him on the lips. Now he looked like a tomato but Taehyun acted chill when his own cheeks were also tinted in pink.
"You little fairy." Beomgyu huffed.
"Who are you calling little? I'm as big as you now." Taehyun huffed back.
"You're still three centimetres shorter than me."
"Whatever," Taehyun playfully rolled his eyes to which Beomgyu gave in with an airy laugh as he held Taehyun's hand tighter.
Little things like this from the older brought happiness to Taehyun's heart and he combusted every time he remembered the moments they kissed. Beomgyu was a very gentle human being and Taehyun was so grateful to have him on his side.
They finally arrived at Beomgyu's apartment. The latter opened the door and Taehyun was welcomed with the aesthetic and minimalist style of the place. The walls were painted in cream, the ceiling was white and decorated with small lights, the floor was made of white granite, the furnitures were wooden and the rest were either of cream, mocha, and white just like the L-shape sofa and the cushions. The entire place just spoke about Beomgyu's style.
"I have a little surprise for you," Beomgyu called on him, gesturing for Taehyun to follow.
They walked towards the veranda of his apartment, shocking Taehyun because of how huge it was. His heart melted when he saw the amount of flowers and plants around the area. He softly gasped when he saw the short star magnolia tree, citrus tree, and bay tree arranged and potted in big terracotta pots. At the left was a wooden bench and a sprinkler beside it.
"You like it?" Beomgyu asked as he intertwined their fingers while laying his head on the younger's shoulder.
"I love it, hyung." Taehyun said, bringing a hand up to caress Beomgyu's cheek. The younger one pulled him into a soft and sweet kiss.
Whenever Taehyun did the first move, Beomgyu couldn't help but fall harder. He kissed back with the same amount of love as Taehyun did. The younger one hugged lazily around Beomgyu's waist as he just ruffled Taehyun's hair, gently lacing his fingers on the silver strands.
After they pulled away, Taehyun was beaming with sparkling eyes before he turned around to check the flowers. "I'm so happy! We can water the plants together everyday!"
Beomgyu smiled fondly, all his worry went down the drain seeing the joy in the fairy's eyes as he walked around the veranda.
"I did the right thing bringing Taehyun to Seoul.." He muttered to himself. "Didn't I?"
Beomgyu didn't think further about it. He was too distracted with Taehyun's features and the sunset behind him, making him look unreal and majestic.
He chuckled as Taehyun pulled him towards the flowers and so he got ready to hear another lesson about their variety and original names.
~
The next day came and Taehyun woke up to Beomgyu's soft morning kisses. The room was filled with his sweet fragrance as his wings dangled at the side of the bed and down to the floor.
Sunlight peeked through the curtains and Taehyun groaned, sinking down the sheets. Beomgyu smiled fondly, thinking the fairy must've been really tired from all the travelling yesterday from Daegu. Not even seconds later the younger fell back asleep.
The older decided to get up first, leaving a kiss on Taehyun's forehead before walking out of the room. Minutes later, the younger followed, hearing some clattering of utensils. He followed the small noise, rubbing his eyes as his wings fluttered in their morning glow.
Beomgyu was struggling with what to prepare for his fairy boyfriend. Taehyun laughed while leaning against the door frame and the older quickly turned around, his ears were bright red as he held a huge bar of cheese in his hands.
Fairies had insanely strong appetites when they spotted some mouth-watering food that turned out to be weird in a human's eyes. Last night, Beomgyu ransacked the younger's backpack in an attempt to transfer his belongings only to find out that Taehyun's stuff were mostly vials, potions, pouches of pixie dust, and a few ingredients that Beomgyu couldn't even name. He also brought a few human clothes that Beomgyu bought for him when they went to a mall in Daegu.
Moreover, Beomgyu had recently been learning about the actual foods that fairies eat. He almost gagged when he found out Taehyun's favourite was a half-bar of cheese with fresh milk poured onto it and sprinkled with Yew and Holly leaves. Goodness gracious, his imagination of that food's visual was terrifying. But for Taehyun, here he was, preparing the awful food.
"Good morning," Taehyun greeted as he entered the kitchen.
"Morning, Hyun." Beomgyu smiled before he turned to continue what he was doing. His smile instantly disappeared.
Taehyun inhaled the familiar leafy smell, his eyes turning crescents as he walked towards the older, hugging him firmly from the back. Beomgyu hadn't braced himself for the action and now it resulted in the heavy pounding of his chest as he fought to keep himself cool. Taehyun placed a kiss on the side of Beomgyu's head before leaning his chin on the older's right shoulder. His smile grew wider as he saw the Yew and Holly leaves on the pan as Beomgyu heat it up.
"It smells good," Taehyun commented. "Don't heat it much though, I like it when it's still leafy and looking fresh."
Beomgyu chuckled, "Sorry, I don't have a steamer here."
Taehyun pinched his waist and the older yelp, "Frying pan is doing great. You too, hyung." He then moved to the side, keeping a hand around Beomgyu's waist as he skillfully checked the fresh milk, snapping his fingers as the cup levitated towards him. Beomgyu watched in awe as Taehyun manipulated the cup, letting it fly towards his lips so he could taste it.
When the younger one nodded to himself, he knew right then that Taehyun was satisfied with the taste.
"Quick question, Taehyunnie." Beomgyu said, "Why do you like these leaves so much? I know that they are your favourites but heck, they're disgusting!"
Taehyun just laughed, understanding it so well. Only fairies would love the mixture of cheese, fresh milk, a bit of olive oil, Yew and Holly leaves.
Taehyun leaned on the side as Beomgyu continued to blabber, "I mean I can't really blame you. These Yew leaves aro so freaking cute."
"It's poisonous."
Beomgyu dropped the spoon that he was holding, whipping his head towards the other.
"WHAT?!"
"Its scientific name is Taxus baccata, toxic to humans." Taehyun added while Beomgyu stared at him with an are-you-serious look. "It's very tasty, hyung."
"Damn. If you hated me, you might've probably poisoned me by now." Beomgyu shuddered dramatically and the younger one just rolled his eyes.
"Good thing your curious self didn't taste it," Taehyun snorted. "But these Holly leaves can serve as medicine, hyung. Specially for fever, digestive problems, hypertension, and blood circulation. We don't find much of these so I need to improvise and use my powers."
As the younger talked, Beomgyu couldn't help but smile wider. He was usually the one who drove the conversations since Taehyun found it difficult to do so. Now he was so happy to see the fairy talk and talk about the things he knew and wanted to share with him. He loved the way Taehyun opened up to him with that gorgeous tempting smile and damn, even the younger's small and little movements made his heart flutter.
He swore he will protect this summer fairy.
~
Having that very first breakfast with the older in his apartment made Taehyun smile. He was improving his potions so that they will work faster considering that he's now far from the hollow, he need to step up and improve everything that he could like what his friends suggested.
Taehyun badly wanted to be the perfect boyfriend for Beomgyu. He was only a fairy, so his life didn't revolve around studying and going to university, job-hunting and paying bills. His life revolved around Beomgyu and his mission was to make him happy everyday.
Starting from this apartment, he will learn. Every single thing that he needed to so that there will be a day that would come when the older finally don't need to worry about him and guide him everywhere they go.
Beomgyu had been bolder now since there were only the two of them. He was extra sweeter and clingy to Taehyun. They've gone from binge watching K-dramas again and late night walks with Beomgyu teaching him stuff from time to time.
The following week, Beomgyu was back to making music. He entered the university and was greeted by a bunch of students. There weren't only from his batch and major, some were from different batches and majors, even from far buildings. He didn't even know some of them and so he just half-heartedly greeted them and when he spotted Yeonjun pushing his way through the crowd, he screeched.
"Yo, BG!!!" Yeonjun grinned widely, smacking the other's back.
"Ack!" Beomgyu shoved him off, "Hyung, what the fuck? That hurts."
"Dang, I missed you." Yeonjun dramatically wiped a fake tear before hugging the younger. He purposely squeezed him, tightening the hug before letting go. "It's boring without you! I got stuck in my summer class that Mom forced me into."
"You got to visit Daegu though," Beomgyu snorted as they walked down the hallway.
Yeonjun scoffed but then remembered something, "Speaking of Daegu, how's Taehyun?"
That made Beomgyu halt. His best friend, Yeonjun, wasn't aware that he was dating a fairy and that fairy was the gorgeous and extremely alluring Taehyun that he had introduced to Yeonjun as a 'friend' that he met recently in Daegu. Yeonjun missed a lot of things since he and Taehyun kept it a secret considering he was a fairy. But his family did find out that he was dating the younger.
"Oh, he.. he came to Seoul with me."
"Really?!" Yeonjun exclaimed, "Where does he stay?! Let's hang out with him-"
"Holy flowers! Look at the time, I'm so, so late!" Beomgyu half-yelled while looking at his watch, he quickly turned around to sprint off. "Bye hyung! See ya later!"
Yeonjun stood there in confusion, "He's weird, pfft! And did he just say 'holy flowers'?"
Yeonjun let it off, knowing damn well how much of a dumbass his best friend was.
Let's forget about the 'holy flowers' because that was a curse word Beomgyu learned from the summer fairy. He slipped into his first lecture today, bringing his laptop out to type down shit load of notes.
As the hours passed by, he was actually listening to his lectures but at the back of his mind, he was thinking of Taehyun. He was kind of worried since he left him alone in his apartment and even if he promised the younger he would be back very early, he still couldn't help but think of him. He knew Taehyun behaved well when instructed to do so and also, he's also been busy with his potions but Beomgyu was away for more than seven hours now.
He hoped he could bring Taehyun to the university but he couldn't since he would be considered as an outsider.
When the bell rang and indicated that his last lecture finally ended, he was the first one to run off. He quickly sent Yeonjun a text saying he would be back home early since he wasn't feeling well.
Entering his apartment, he was welcomed by silence. He dropped his things in the living room before he roamed around.
"Taehyun?" He called. "You here, love?"
Beomgyu heard muffled shuffling in the kitchen and he found the younger one there, standing on the counter. He was in his tiny form and he probably just kicked some utensils to catch Beomgyu's attention. The older cooed at his cuteness, he came closer and watched Taehyun in amusement. Taehyun rarely stayed in his tiny fairy form now so Beomgyu missed it a lot.
"Hey."
Taehyun huffed, stomping one foot and the gold pixie dust rained behind him making Beomgyu giggle.
"Hey yourself! Huh, where were you? I was so worried." Taehyun said which only came as tinkling sounds to Beomgyu but he definitely understood what he said.
Beomgyu leaned one hand on the counter as he dipped his head forward. "It's only my first day back in university, Tae. This will go on for the next few months."
One moment, Taehyun was just looking up at him, his wings were droopy and the older knew damn well that he needed to shower some attention to the little being. Taehyun had always been extremely adorable when he was in his tiny form so you can only imagine the shell-shocked expression on Beomgyu's face when the fairy took out something from his pocket and drank it. Beomgyu didn't get to process the situation when the younger got engulfed in a golden glow, his body size shifting as fast as a lightning bolt and in just a split of a second, he's now as big as Beomgyu's frame.
Since the older was leaning one hand on the counter and he was so close, his face came in contact with Taehyun's collarbones as the golden glow finally disappeared into ashes. Beomgyu gulped, totally not prepared for the fairy's size-shifting.
"I take it your potions improved," Beomgyu whispered, stiffened. "You d-don't have to wait long for its effects anymore."
"Yeah," Taehyun muttered lowly, "And I didn't know you'd be gone for eight hours long."
Beomgyu nervously chuckled, new to the change in the younger's voice. "Hyun, we've gone longer than that when we were in Daegu. You stay in your hollow longer than-"
"It's because I'm all alone here," Taehyun honestly said, "Those hours felt like eternity. I missed you."
The older sweetly smiled, but he wasn't gonna let it off and give in without teasing the other. And so he placed his other hand on the counter just like the other one, completely caging the fairy in between. He loved the way Taehyun's doe eyes stared back at him with confidence and overflowing love.
"Didn't know you'd miss the attention I give you this much." Beomgyu teased, leaning dangerously close and noting the quick frown that had formed on Taehyun's lips. The older always had the upper hand when creating sexual tension and Taehyun being a fairy who was so whipped for him, easly gave in.
So, how about..
The younger's wings weakly flapped, golden pixie dust came into Beomgyu's peripheral vision and then suddenly, Taehyun lunged. His wings flapped strongly, knocking off a few utensils on the counter and brought a harsh pass of wind. In just a blink of an eye, Taehyun had a firm grip on the older's waist and flipped their position. Beomgyu groaned when his back hit the counter and felt the younger's body pressed against his.
"Why, babe? Is it wrong to miss the person I love?" Taehyun whispered, his lips hovering over Beomgyu's.
Beomgyu internally cursed. "How can you be so adorable and sexy at the same time. This is unfair."
Taehyun's words were indeed sweet and adorable but the way he held Beomgyu somehow made the temperature a little hot. "I didn't think you'd be away for that long, hyung."
The older smiled fondly, pulling Taehyun closer and they both sighed at the contact. Slowly, the younger leaned forward, capturing Beomgyu's lips with his. With their closed eyes, hands roamed on each other's and Taehyun's wings fluttered widely due to the giddiness and the sexual tension. His sweet scent filled the room and Beomgyu fell for it. He tilted his head for a better angle and he felt Taehyun's tongue slipping into his mouth. Soft moans resonated in the silent room. Beomgyu trailed his fingers to Taehyun's left ear, tracing the pointy helix and down to his ear lobe. He remembered clearly the younger told him it was a very sexual action to do that to a fairy and that it easily got them aroused.
Taehyun moaned, his grip tightening around the older's waist. He plunged his tongue deeper until the kiss became sloppy. His other hand went up to unbutton three buttons on Beomgyu's shirt just enough to reveal some skin for Taehyun to taint.
When they broke the kiss, Beomgyu had that devilish smirk that Taehyun couldn't help but roll his eyes, "If this is what awaits me at home then might as well stay longer out-"
Beomgyu gasped loudly when Taehyun leaned down to attach his lips against his neck. His tongue swirling on his Adam's apple, licking down until he left wet open-mouth kisses on Beomgyu's neck and reaching his collarbones.
"Taehyun.." Beomgyu tilted his head up, letting lust lead them further.
He let the older lace his fingers on his silver hair as he bit down on Beomgyu's skin followed by a sensual suck until a red bloom was left in there. Beomgyu groaned lowly, pulling the younger one until there was no space between them. Taehyun left more marks, his lips and teeth doing it naturally and he ended it with a last lick before he went back up to connect their lips once again.
Beomgyu smiled in between the kiss and that left Taehyun giggling while they continued. Deprived with each other's touch, their hands never stopped playing, feeling each other deeper and harder.
Just as Beomgyu was about to pull the hem of Taehyun's shirt, they didn't register the opening of a door and a few footsteps.
"CHOI BEOMGYU, WHAT THE FUCK?! AHHH! WHO THE HELL IS THAT CREATURE?!"
They broke the kiss with widened eyes. Taehyun's wings engulfed himself and Beomgyu protectively, his doe eyes glowing in shock and fear. Beomgyu hugged the younger tightly, hiding his face at the crook of his neck before he whipped his head towards the left.
"Y-Yeonjun hyung?"
~
It was past midnight. Pixie Hollow was in a good sleep, all the fairies were back in their cottages, taking the best sleep they all deserved.
Kai woke up panting and sweating heavily. His wings losing their happy blue glow as tears started streaming down his face. He cried loudly, in vain, his hands trembling when he brought them to ruffle his hair. The dream he had was not gonna let him sleep for the next nights.
Soobin, who was from the other room, heard his cries and rushed in. He didn't even had to ask who was Kai's dream about judging by the way how painful the younger's sobs.
"Hyung," Kai called and the older one sat beside him on the bed, pulling him in a tight hug. Ever since Taehyun went to Seoul, the two fairies decided to stay in one cottage for the meantime. Mainly because Kai had been having most of his dreams about Taehyun recently. Most of them were happy ones, his moments with Beomgyu in Seoul. But some of them were just.. painful.
The pain from Taehyun's future.
"Hyung.. he found out. He knew Taehyun's a fairy." Kai cried and Soobin rubbed his back, trying his best to hide his fear as well.
"It's Yeonjun, like you said, right?" Soobin asked, his tone falling as tears started to prick his eyes. "B-But.. he's Beomgyu's best friend. He will accept Taehyun the way Beomgyu accepted h-him.."
"He already did, hyung. Beomgyu's best friend accepted Taehyun." The dream fairy muttered as more tears flowed down his eyes.
Soobin's breathe hitched, gulping down before he spoke, "T-Then.. what's there to worry.."
Kai looked up at him. The horror in his eyes and the sorrowful tears were enough to show Soobin that there's no way things will end up good for Taehyun the way he had planned and wished for it to become.
"Humans and predators aren't the only things fairies fear," Kai spoke softly and they both knew they couldn't do something about it. The potions fairy, their best friend, Taehyun, was the one who chose this path. They knew they couldn't question the path that Taehyun took because he himself knew what awaited him for the next months. He was only a fairy, and his decision was made.
"The time is included."
~
Like what the dream fairy had dreamed, Yeonjun did accept Taehyun. At first he was overly dramatic and shell-shocked, the same reaction Beomgyu gave Taehyun before but Yeonjun was an extra and overreacting for at least three hours. But not in a bad and disgusted way, rather, he was astounded. He looked at Taehyun with gleeful and curious eyes. It's like he was a child and too happy to have met a fairy friend.
"Oh my god. Taehyun, when Beomgyu introduced you to me back in Daegu, you looked so human-like. Woah! Your wings are gorgeous and damn, how did this dumbass get so lucky to be loved by such a handsome and sexy fairy- ouch! Beomgyu- that hurts!"
That night, Yeonjun never stopped blabbering to Taehyun. Plus, he was upset with Beomgyu for not trusting him on his little secret with Taehyun. However, after ages of explaining, Yeonjun still understood considering Taehyun's being and fear of humans' judgement. He was also proud of his best friend for being mature in his first relationship and that alone falling for a fairy that was supposed to only exist in kids' movies and books.
Yeonjun got along well with Taehyun. Decided it would be best to forget that he literally walked into a scene in which Beomgyu and Taehyun were pressed against each other and kissing like there's no tomorrow. But when Taehyun left to do something in the other room, Beomgyu was hiding his face in embarrassment since Yeonjun never stopped teasing him.
They brought Taehyun to their favourite places for hangouts. They taught him new things and he mostly learned fashion from Yeonjun. Beomgyu would stare fondly at them, happy to see his lover and his best friend talk about fun things.
Beomgyu led Taehyun to learning more. But the rest of Beomgyu's free time would just be him staying in his apartment with the fairy. Cuddling and kissing, making food for each other, and having late night talks. They strengthened their communication so that they would be more open with each other although Taehyun still kept this one thing that he needed to tell Beomgyu the most. His lover needed to know but he didn't want to ruin the moment every time he was trying to bring it up.
"Hug me tight please."
The older smiled and complied, "As you wish." They snuggled closer on the couch, covered in sheets. Taehyun hummed with his eyes closed and Beomgyu giggled, "Do you have a thing for hugs? You've been recently asking for it all the time."
"I.. just." Taehyun chuckled, "I love your hugs the most. They are so.. warm."
"I thought you loved my kisses the most."
Taehyun just pursed his lips. Letting Beomgyu's warmth take over him and the older one just gave up. They stayed like that for the next hours, fighting off the chilly air that had come due to the change of season.
~
Beomgyu's veranda was so pretty under the care of a summer fairy. They watered the plants together like how Taehyun wanted.
Beomgyu would always refill the sprinkler before handing it to the younger one. They even trimmed the short trees, making spherical shapes that Beomgyu found a little too cute.
In other situations, Beomgyu would be staying up all night to do his performance tasks and projects. Making music all night and Taehyun brought him coffee instead of scolding him. He knew Beomgyu still managed to take care of his health for Taehyun not to worry him much. He still kept his promise every time Taehyun asked him to head to bed together. Beomgyu will always give in and abandon his work for the meantime until Taehyun fell asleep.
Taehyun being a fairy, noticed the change of season. In recent days, he didn't stay long on the veranda because of how chilly and windy outside. Beomgyu, too, noticed the younger had been adding more layers of shirt and sweater to stay warm. Too much of layers actually.
Taehyun stared at the calendar.
Beomgyu taught him how the months and days work on it. The calendar indicated holidays and seasons.
Taehyun's breath hitched, gulping down the lump in his throat as he hugged himself.
"No.." He mumbled. "The heavier change of seasons.."
Over the months that had passed, he was happy. He was happy to be with Beomgyu. He didn't even watch out for the fast change of time. Autumn started in Korea a while ago, that explained how it had gotten colder and soon winter will also envelope the land. As for Taehyun, it felt ten times colder than a normal person could feel. This was also the main reason why he got addicted to Beomgyu's warm hugs. His hormones normally searched for it and his body longed only for the older boy's kind of warmth.
He had been constantly bugging Beomgyu and sticking beside him. He wasn't sure if the older found it annoying but with the way Beomgyu's smile never faltered and his smile brightened every time Taehyun asked for his presence, he was left with certainty that the older will never get tired of what he was asking over and over again. It was Beomgyu's warm hugs.
This one specific night brought them the closest. However, they were unaware for tomorrow.
Beomgyu was inside his mini studio down the hall of his apartment. He's been secretly working on a song that he had written for Taehyun. To him people might think it wasn't much, but it was special, he knew. It contained how he met Taehyun and how he treasured their memories together. He was thankful. Fate gave him an extraordinary love that he had only found in Taehyun's form. The way he wrote the lyrics, he couldn't help but smile as he was reminded of the fairy's love for him. How exquisite he looked in front of Beomgyu. How he couldn't let go of another day anymore without seeing him.
He heard a knock on the door and he quickly turned his chair, "Come in."
The door opened and Taehyun peeked inside. Beomgyu giggled cutely and the younger swiftly rushed in. A blanket was wrapped around him as he dragged a chair to sit beside the older.
"Don't giggle like that, hyung." Taehyun huffed, "It makes me want to bite your cheeks."
Beomgyu laughed maniacally but it soon died down when he noticed the way Taehyun was shivering. The older could tell that he was trying to act like he wasn't feeling cold. Beomgyu understood because everyone felt the chilly air anyway but the strange part was that Taehyun was already wearing layers and layers of clothes, plus he's inside a room with the temperature raised high and he's also wrapped in a blanket. The older grew worried.
"You're shivering," Beomgyu said and Taehyun stiffened. "Are you sick? You look so pale, love."
Taehyun looked away, casually avoiding Beomgyu's hand that was about to touch his forehead to feel his body temperature.
"D-Don't worry. It's normal for fairies to feel cold during this season. I- I mean.. it's not like fairies are the only ones who struggle with this. Humans, too." He said.
"Are you sure? I can make you some soup," Beomgyu offered. "Hot enough to stop you from shivering."
Taehyun chuckled softly, "I'm not hungry."
Beomgyu pouted and Taehyun shook his head at how cute and adorable the older looked. The younger scooted closer, reaching up to straighten some strands of Beomgyu's hair. Taehyun tucked them behind the older's ear, admiring how long his hair was.
"Can I get hugs instead?"
Beomgyu grinned and teased him, "Why my hugs?"
Taehyun rolled his eyes and Beomgyu answered it for himself, "Because they are warm, right? Yah, Taehyun, you can find warmth aside from my hugs."
"By?"
"You can go to the gym with me, you know, or maybe go jogging with me early in the morning, or you can clean the apartment- wait, scratch that, I don't want you to get tired." Beomgyu blabbered continuously, "But really, these activities will help you sweat a lot."
Taehyun stared blankly at him, then he smiled, "No, thanks. Besides, I'm already stronger than you. There's no need to boost my strength even more with these activities."
Beomgyu snarled at that, "Hey! That's off the topic-"
"Also, hyung," Taehyun added, putting a hand on top of Beomgyu's to calm him down. "I'm talking about warmth, not something that would make me sweat and feel sticky. It's the warm temperature of someone's body that I could absorb as a fairy and I didn't want to absorb it from someone else other than you. That's why your hugs make me feel at ease, alive, and warm."
"Oh." Beomgyu said.
The older's cheeks were all red and Taehyun smiled, "Yeah. So, can I get your hugs now?"
Beomgyu obliged quickly. Nearly slamming his chair with Taehyun's chair so that they would close the distance. Taehyun wrapped the blanket around them as the older's arms hugged him. They snuggled closer and just stared at the unfinished part of Beomgyu's music on the computer.
"I admire all your works, hyung." Taehyun mumbled.
Beomgyu looked at him as he continued, "You make the best melodies and I'm honoured to hear the raw samples and watch as you make them."
Taehyun continued staring at the computer while the older watched him with a soft smile. "Someday, hyung. Your music will be known across the world.. and I will be there as you perform with your own music on a big stage for the first time."
Beomgyu was getting emotional. His eyes were glossy as tears attempted to fall down. He heard these words a lot from his number of fans which were his schoolmates and friends, his best friend, and his family. But hearing these words from Taehyun somehow brought him to the edge.
He hugged the younger tight, just enough to make the fairy feel loved and safe.. and warm. He was so grateful that Taehyun entered his life and made his days brighter, added more colours to even his gloomy and sad days.
"Don't worry, Taehyun-ah.." Beomgyu said, leaning his head on the younger's shoulder with a small smile. "Hyung will give you warm hugs for as many as you want. You can ask anytime and I'll come running for you, I'll give it all to you even if you want the hugs to last longer."
If someone asked Taehyun what would be better than the words 'I love you,' he was certain he would point out these words from the older. It may not give the same effect to other people but to the fairy, what Beomgyu said was enough to make him fall for the older over again.
Before they headed to bed, they shared a one sweet kiss. With the younger leaning in to capture Beomgyu's lips, he then brought a hand to his neck to pull him closer. The distance disappeared as their tongues danced together, just a little pressure was added before they pulled away with a soft smack.
"Thank you, hyung."
"Anytime."
~
Waking up in each other's arms was one thing that Taehyun loved doing the most. It was a dream he had for years and never thought he'd actually wake up everyday with the older right beside him. Sharing kisses and smiles before getting up to start their day. He knew the older loved it as much as he did and they both wanted it to be like this forever.
That was the problem. Because in today's time, nothing lasts forever.
Taehyun woke up to the loud scrambling of the human. He rubbed his eyes, squinting them and he saw Beomgyu running here and there across the room. He was already wearing his uniform for college, he was stuffing his books into his bag and Taehyun knew right then that he was in a hurry.
"Hyung?"
Beomgyu only shot him a quick eye contact before he turned around to look for his socks, "Sorry, Tae. I woke you up."
Taehyun looked at the alarm clock while the older one asked, "Have you seen my phone? Damn, I can't find it."
The fairy hastily stood up to help, although his head was spinning a bit. He searched through the sheets around the bed, flipping the pillows before he finally found it. He walked to Beomgyu and slipped his phone to his pocket. Beomgyu mouthed a 'thank you' as he hurriedly wore his socks.
As Beomgyu rushed, Taehyun worriedly looked at him, "Hyung, you're already going. Isn't it too early?"
"I have stuff to do at the university with my groupmates."
"But it's only 6 AM. W-We haven't watered the plants yet on your veranda."
Beomgyu sighed, standing straight after he slipped his sneakers on. The look on the older's face was already tired and stressed despite having a good rest and Taehyun didn't want to think that this reaction from the older was because he found Taehyun bothersome. That's plainly ridiculous because Beomgyu wouldn't think that way.
"Let's fill the sprinkler, hyung." Taehyun encouraged, "This can relieve your stress. Plus you haven't eaten anything-"
"I can't, Taehyun!" Beomgyu sternly stated and his voice was louder than usual, "I need to go now."
Taehyun felt a lump in his throat at the sudden change of the older's voice, the honey and sweet tone was not present. Beomgyu must have noticed it as well because when he looked at the younger, his eyes were wide and in shock.
Beomgyu shook his head, messing his hair as he walked towards the bedroom's door, "I won't be home until dinner. Don't wait for me."
When Taehyun heard the slamming of the front door, he managed to come back to his senses. He sat down on the bed recalling the way Beomgyu acted up on him. He didn't even give Taehyun a single kiss or any sweet gesture he usually did before he left.
He wasn't sure if it was a problem or not. This was his first relationship and certainly would be his last. He didn't know how to handle this because after all, this was the first time it happened.
The hours passed by and Taehyun, all by himself, watered the plants. He was emitting a negative vibe and so he whispered apologies to the plants. He was just disappointed at himself and a little sad, thinking that he had gotten the older pissed.
He pulled onto his hoodie as the water sprinkled over the flowers. He was breathing unsteadily, small puffs of air leaving his lips due to the cold weather. His hands were no longer warm.
"I should talk to my fairy buddies.." He mumbled then saw the flowers dancing in agreement.
He went inside and searched for Kai's crystal ball. When he found it, he walked back to the veranda and sat on the bench. On his left hand was a small hot pack and to his right was the crystal ball.
"Kai.. can you hear me?" He whispered softly. "Please, I just need someone to talk to."
He didn't have to wait long when the crystal ball created a mist inside. It looked like a small bundle of cloud inside was gradually rotating and the ball was glowing in his hand.
"Taehyun?"
He sighed in relief. Finally he could talk to them. He couldn't see their faces but at least he could hear them.
"Soobin is here with me," Kai said. "Did something happen? You can tell us."
"I know you told me to only use this ball when things go downhill but," Taehyun hesitated, realisation washed over him. No, he can't tell them what happened earlier because he was thinking it would be immature of him to sulk over that matter. Maybe he could just figure it out himself.
"I.. I just.."
"You can tell us, Hyun." Soobin said.
"I missed you, guys." He covered up. It was partially true but he was supposed to tell them something else but decided not to.
"Awww! We missed you, too." Kai chirped. "Tell us everything about Seoul! Is it as pretty as Daegu?"
Taehyun chuckled. Maybe he could take his mind off of Beomgyu for some time and so he decided to talk and talk with his friends. Catching up with everything he missed while being away.
After their conversation that lasted for a good two hours, Taehyun decided to clean the veranda. He had been thinking about Beomgyu once again.
Taehyun told himself to be understanding. Right. Beomgyu was just so tired and stressed out due to the deadlines of his essays, his exam, and his performance tasks. Right.
Taehyun continued to clean the veranda, and as he did, maybe he was too distracted that he didn't notice the falling leaves from the plants and the short trees that were in the terracotta pots. A harsh wind passes by, the chill travelled up Taehyun's body and his wings involuntarily wrapped around his frame to protect himself from the coldness.
It's coming. Taehyun thought with quivering lips.
He went inside the apartment, closing the glassdoor with a heavy sigh.
~
Beomgyu came home past midnight that time. Taehyun was panicking inwardly as he approached Beomgyu who was heading towards his studio with lazy steps.
"Hyung! Where have you been?" Taehyun trailed behind him.
"Not now, Hyun." Beomgyu deadpanned. "I've got shit to do. You shouldn't have waited for me."
"Can you at least tell me where you have been? I was worried sick." Taehyun softly said. Beomgyu turned to shoot him a glare but when his eyes caught the other's, it made him stop.
"Go to sleep. I'd be very busy." He finally said, entering his studio.
Taehyun was left there, dumbfounded. Feeling lost and unwelcome.
He wasn't sure of what was going on and it scared him. Beomgyu was never like this. He wouldn't ever act up like this to him, but what was that? What did he just see? For the past six years, he knew Beomgyu was more than a sweet and loving bear, he's pure and cute and someone who cared about the ones he loved.
With a heavy heart, Taehyun stared at the door. He brought his icy cold hands to rub them against his elbows, hoping to emit some warmness.
He decided to give Beomgyu some time. He feared this was what his friends meant. Beomgyu never had the chance to date and fall in love as he was busy with his college life and music which he was very passionate about.
The following day came and just like yesterday, he was woken up by Beomgyu, only this time, he just got out of shower.
"Hyung?"
Beomgyu was already wearing his uniform, his hair dripping a little as he ruffled it with a small towel. He made eye contact with Taehyun before quickly looking away.
"I- I'll go make something for breakfast-"
"Don't bother." Beomgyu retorted, checking a few messages in his phone. "I need to go now."
"Beomgyu, you've been skipping meals a lot. It's not good for your health!" Taehyun exclaimed, still maintaining a soft tone just to deliver to the older that he wasn't up for an argument.
"I'll be fine." Beomgyu said, grabbing his things before walking out towards the living room.
Taehyun paced quickly, following him but as soon as he stepped out of their shared bedroom, out of the confines of their warm room, he felt the icy cold floor against the sole of his feet. The freezing temperature seeped through his clothes as he felt the painful shiver crawl in his skin. His lips quivered, trying to ignore the pain as he reached for his hyung.
"Beomgyu," he called.
The older stopped on his track, turning around to face him but he was baffled when Taehyun returned the drop blank gaze.
"You've been pushing me aside since yesterday. Why are you being like this? Did I do something wrong?"
That snapped Beomgyu a bit back to reality. He gulped his stupidity down before he said, "I'm just busy and stressed."
Taehyun just stared at him, those eyes, even in different seasons, it still melted the older's heart. Just his gaze was enough to stir his insides but he wasn't letting it off now surprisingly.
"It's nearly the end of the semester and I'm up to doing extremes here," Beomgyu finally reasoned out.
"O-Oh.." Was all Taehyun could say. "I'm just worried."
Beomgyu just mindlessly nodded, he was actually torn between staying and rushing out, "I'll go now. Just close the doors and-"
"Wait," Taehyun called. Doing his best to keep his hands away from the older because right now he wasn't sure anymore if the older would want to be held by Taehyun.
"What is it this time?" Beomgyu slowly asked. Clearly trying to stay calm.
"Can I get a kiss from you, hyung?" Taehyun softly mumbled, just enough for Beomgyu to hear within the close proximity. "P-Please?"
Beomgyu looked to the side while sighing loudly, "Taehyun, we take up minutes while doing that."
"J-Just a quick kiss. Please," Taehyun gulped the lump down his throat, "It won't take long. Just a peck."
Beomgyu just stared at him. It was breaking Taehyun piece by piece. The older was never one to refuse kisses even if he was already running late or even if Taehyun just ate mint chocolate ice cream. He'd be more than willing to shower the younger with different types of kisses.
"If you badly d-don't want it then.." Taehyun tried to think of something else. He knew Beomgyu was only trapped by the pressure of college and the older definitely loved everything about him so he had to try again.
"H-How about a warm hug?" Taehyun's breath was shaking as he spoke. "I've been feeling cold, hyung. Y-Your hugs mean a lot to me and they're enough to bring me warmth."
Taehyun was losing hope. He definitely told Beomgyu about this, that he needed to absorb warmth from his beloved to keep the balance in his temperature. But he knew to himself that he didn't know how to handle a relationship when encountering this type of conflict and he feared he was only fueling the off mood Beomgyu was giving.
"Go water your plants so you could do something," Beomgyu clicked his tongue. "If you feel cold, just stay in bed all day."
In just seconds, Beomgyu was gone. The door slammed shut and the fairy was left in silence.
He didn't know what to do but thankfully, he managed to stay calm. Panicking would do nothing. His heart was clenching due to the way Beomgyu rejected him because he clearly remembered the older never did it once. He used to make sure that Taehyun never felt lonely and despised. But now, everything was turning upside down.
Later that day, Taehyun was leaning his elbows against the veranda's railing.
A single tear dropped to his face as he watched the last cherry blossom leaf fall from the branch just right beside their apartment. His fingertips were numb, his lips and breath created puffs of air. His temperature was low.
He looked around, horrified seeing all the trees and stems of plants having no more leaves and flowers decorating them. He was blaming himself for this because it felt too late as the time betrayed him. He never got to tell Beomgyu about this. Because it felt like the older one should've been aware despite Taehyun not telling him. Also, it felt like there was never a good time for Taehyun to let it out to Beomgyu.
He was left with no solutions.
Not long after that day, snow quickly poured on the entirety of Korea. It was the last week of November when an infinite amount of tiny snowflakes danced in the chilly air, bringing the winter beauty across the city as the people took a moment to appreciate the last season of this year.
Taehyun was waiting for Beomgyu to come home. He was craving for cuddles and binge watching K-dramas and especially the attention that the older used to give him. He missed finding the older acting cute and annoying him all the time. He missed how Beomgyu would jump around when they do fun activities, chasing and roasting each other.
It also suddenly felt long since they cooked food together. Arranging his desk together and lounging around together.
Taehyun was sitting on their bed, the room temperature already turned to the highest. It was all burning hot around but Taehyun was still freezing even if he already wore his thickest pants and jackets. He even ate bowls of warm soup and ramen but it was all useless.
With fear in his eyes, he watched the snow thicken outside Beomgyu's veranda. He badly wanted to tell Beomgyu about this matter but he knew the older was near to passing his final performance and he wouldn't want to dare distract him.
Taehyun lifted his left hand, he watched with tired eyes as his fingertips were slowly turning into ice. Little snowflakes formed on his skin.
~
This stupid conflict that wasn't even suppose to happen between them, grew longer.
It had been a week since then, and Beomgyu was practically not coming home. The last time he saw Taehyun was two days ago since he was at the university's studios, finalising his shit during that time. Then he would fall asleep there completely forgetting about the running hours of the night.
Beomgyu was always busy. It looked like he was doing it with awareness but really, this was the reason why he hadn't been in a relationship before. Taehyun knew this as well because Soobin and Kai made it pretty damn clear to him before he left Pixie Hollow.
But just for Beomgyu, Taehyun knew this will pass by, so he will stay with him and still try to take care of him.
Because if Beomgyu was hurting him, the older was probably aware. However, being a newbie to a relationship, he didn't know how to handle it either and it was topped off with his college activities which led him to nearly forgetting about Taehyun being his first priority.
"Yah! Congratulations!" Yeonjun yelled, throwing an arm around Beomgyu as they walked towards the university gates. A few students passing by were also congratulating him.
Beomgyu topped the demo performance in his class. He also gained the opportunity to perform with his music that he'd submitted. It wasn't something small because he will be performing with a big audience in a theatre. Man! It was a big leap from just being a university student who majored in Music and was up against hundreds and thousands of dreamers from his university and from other universities.
"Damn, your music is different! It will be known across the world very soon!" Yeonjun happily exclaimed and that slapped Beomgyu hard on the face.
Yeonjun's words reminded him of Taehyun. His smile dropped, getting flashbacks of all that happened. But before he could think further, Yeonjun was already speaking again.
"Hey! You should invite Taehyun. Let's save him a seat," Yeonjun chirped.
"We can't, hyung."
"Huh? Why?"
"He's a fairy," Beomgyu mindlessly said, "I don't want people to find out about him. Specifically his true identity."
"But he's good at covering himself!" Yeonjun exclaimed.
Beomgyu just pursed his lips before he replied, "I'll just think about it."
Yeonjun nodded, "You should. He'd be so happy to see you perform."
"Y-Yeah.." Beomgyu trailed off.
They went their separate ways as it was already dinner time. Beomgyu walked with heavy thoughts coursing in his mind. Now that his schedule was wide open and not tight anymore, he was late to gather his shits. Yeonjun's remark reminded him of the fairy. All about him.
Beomgyu's lips curved into a frown. An internal panic rushed through his dumb self, remembering the way he treated Taehyun for the past weeks. His footsteps grew heavier and faster as he cussed himself again and again, couldn't believe he made the sweet fairy feel neglected and despisable. He let realisation wash over him, he brought a hand to brush through his hair as he sighed in frustration.
He didn't know what came over him to push Taehyun aside and he certainly hated how it only slapped on him now. The younger had missed him a lot and he knew this but he was being stupid, thinking he had to ignore the fairy so he could focus on college. He was somehow terrified, knowing to himself that he had lacked in giving Taehyun what he deserved, his treatment towards him changed and he managed to walk away from Taehyun even if he saw the way the fairy's eyes saddened as he fought the urge to cry in front of the human. His thoughts were clouded with regret as he got the vision of Taehyun's eyes losing their bright and loving spark. He could've laid it out to the fairy and talked to him about his conflict whenever he felt pressured with college. He knew Taehyun was very good with listening and communicating with him, but he chose the easy path and ignored him.
He felt ashamed that now he was thinking of Taehyun. How could he? Why now when he probably had hurt the fairy and he stayed away from him for quite some time?
His heart weakened at the thought of a lonely Taehyun. Hurriedly, he walked even faster, until eventually he ran towards his apartment building without stopping, ignoring the thickness of snow and the cold hitting his bare skin. Beomgyu frantically arrived at his floor and almost slammed his fists against the door of his place.
"Taehyun? Open the door," He knocked loudly.
A minute had passed and Taehyun wasn't opening the door. It was unusual, knowing how the younger was always quick to slide the door open and greet him with open arms after his shitty tiring days. The memory brought him over the edge, realising it had been long since the last time he found himself in Taehyun's protective arms.
Beomgyu hastily tapped on the code, reminding himself that his apartment door was automatic. He felt stupid, although he knew he had gotten used to the fact that Taehyun was always the one to open the door for him. Once he was inside, he dropped his things in the living room before he called out for the younger.
"Taehyun, I'm home!"
No response. That's when he noticed a vague change in his apartment's scent. Taehyun's sweet and calming scent was no longer present, all that was left was the coldness of the living room. He ran around and found all the rooms empty, his last hope was their bedroom and the veranda.
As soon as he stepped into their bedroom, he was startled by how hot it was inside. His feet were burning against the floor, sweat started to trickle down his neck. Taehyun had probably set the temperature high only for this room.
He looked around and found Taehyun on their bed, sleeping peacefully.
Beomgyu let out a loud sigh in relief, "You scared me, Hyun. I thought you left me."
He walked closer and sat on the bedside. He really was terrified as the other side of his mind thought of the possibilities knowing he had been a complete asshole for the past weeks. He can never hurt Taehyun but he already did. He hated his own guts, only coming home and worrying for the fairy once he got what he wanted for university shit. He gazed down at the fairy, a sad smile was on his lips as he talked, "I'm home now, love. I'm sorry for ignoring you, I'll admit it. Let's talk once you're awake."
Beomgyu sighed again, staring at Taehyun for the next few minutes. Only then he realised how much he had missed him as well. But as he stared longer at the fairy, his sad smile dropped.
Taehyun wasn't breathing.
He never saw the normal rising of Taehyun's chest and now he was seeing more things. Taehyun's natural tanned skin turned pale as white pearls. Beomgyu's lips quivered as fear started to build inside him. He reached to lower the duvet and his eyes widened in horror, seeing how pale Taehyun's arms were. He looked closer and he saw small white icy marks of snowflakes scattering on Taehyun's soft skin like a severe disease.
"Taehyun, w-wake up." Beomgyu called, knowing the younger was a light sleeper, he would get up in seconds. However, he didn't.
"Love," Beomgyu's voice trembled as he held Taehyun's hand, tears pricking his eyes when he felt extreme coldness from his fairy's hand.
Beomgyu didn't know what to do, he was going frantic all alone with the fairy. The room was extremely hot but Taehyun was as cold as ice.
"Taehyun, please wake up.." He cried. He couldn't bring a fairy to the hospital and he couldn't ask someone else either.
That's when he remembered Yeonjun, the only one who knew about Taehyun other than him. He quickly called the older, alarming him with a heavy heart. Yeonjun was heading quick to their place and Beomgyu dreadfully watched the fairy, helpless and feeling stupid to not know what to do. Taehyun wasn't giving any sign of life in his appearance and Beomgyu feared the thought of losing the fairy.
"Where is he?!" Yeonjun burst through the door and found Beomgyu at the corner of the bed with tears in his eyes.
"Hyung, help me." He pleaded, "I don't know what to do. He's as cold as ice and not waking up."
Yeonjun himself was feeling tears start to form in his eyes, just by watching Taehyun, he could see that he was lifeless. He looked peaceful, as if he was just asleep. But, no. Taehyun was drifting away from his best friend and they had no idea what to do.
"Does he have fairy books around here? Or magic stuff? Anything, Beomgyu, anything that would give us a clue," Yeonjun rambled, pacing around the bedroom with a weakened heart.
"He has potions here and in the other room.."
With blurry vision, Beomgyu searched around as well. All he could think was Taehyun's bright eyes and smile, full of life and passion that he's about to lose. Or did he lose them already?
"Uhh, Gyu, what's this?"
Beomgyu turned and found Yeonjun standing next to a desk, smaller than his desk. It was a gift he gave Taehyun after the younger started living with him. He walked closer and saw what Yeonjun was pointing at.
"I think it's Taehyun's.." He mumbled, looking down at a crystal ball that was glowing at the corner of Taehyun's desk behind some leather books and empty vials.
He took it in his hands, rubbing it with his thumb when suddenly, they heard voices coming from it.
"Looks like you're not the one for him."
"We thought you'd take good care of him."
Yeonjun stepped back in fear while Beomgyu moved the ball far from his face. "Who the hell are you-"
"It's Kai and Soobin, we're Taehyun's best friends. You are hearing our voices through this crystal ball."
Beomgyu remembered them, Taehyun talked a lot about them. He didn't waste time and quickly spoke, "H-Hi. We need help! Please.. Taehyun is.."
"We know, Beomgyu." Soobin spoke softly, "We saw this coming."
"You knew?"
"Kai here is a dream fairy. He saw you coming into Taehyun's life. He saw you falling for Taehyun, and he saw you drifting away from Taehyun. Kai had seen Taehyun's future with you," Soobin told them and Beomgyu felt himself getting dizzy.
"What? Then why didn't you guys-"
"It's Taehyun's decision. We all respect a fairy's decision in sacrificing just to be with the one they love." Kai explained, his voice strained as though he'd been crying for a while. "Taehyun knew all of this and decided to follow you."
Beomgyu's heart clenched, reminded of everything that happened when they were in Daegu, it all snapped in his mind. "You're saying.. Taehyun knew this would happen to him?"
A soft sob and a trembling sigh was heard in the other line. Soobin was the one who spoke again, "It's a lot to take in, we know. But you need to bring him back to Daegu now or you wouldn't be able to see him again."
Beomgyu bit his lips, clenching his hand around the crystal ball. His emotions were starting to mix and so Yeonjun laid a comforting hand on his shoulder in hopes to calm him down.
"B-But the last train probably left an hour ago.."
"Find another way then," Soobin suggested, bitterness could be heard in his voice. "Or would you rather lose Taehyun forever?"
That was the last line he heard from the crystal ball. He watched the grey clouds swirl inside the ball, as its glow weakened bit by bit.
"I brought my car. Let's go," Yeonjun quickly said. "He doesn't have much time left."
Beomgyu's mind was already lost but he did what he had to do with his remaining strength. He carried Taehyun all the way down to Yeonjun's car as the older opened the door for them. Beomgyu cradled Taehyun in his arms at the backseat as they started to drive all the way to Daegu. Yeonjun never drove this fast before, but he was still careful. A friend's life was on the line and he knew this friend was Beomgyu's one and only love and it made him accelerate his speed. He stepped on the gas, momentarily stepping on the clutch to push the gear stick to a higher number before stepping on the gas again. They don't know how much time was left for Taehyun, but seeing his lifeless appearance, their hope was dying down.
The distance from Seoul to Daegu was approximately three hours, but Yeonjun made it possible to arrive in two hours and fifteen minutes, praying that they wouldn't come across some cops and night patrols due to his speed.
They arrived at Beomgyu's home, no guards were present since all their workers were off duty. It was night time and his family was probably asleep. Yeonjun took the gate keys in Beomgyu's pocket, sneakily opening one side of the gates as silent as he could. They can't let his family know that they're back because Taehyun, his boyfriend, who turned out to be a fairy, needed to be back at home.
The car was only parked outside the gates. Yeonjun led the way as Beomgyu carried Taehyun. They snuck towards the garden and further into the small forest. Taehyun's ice cold skin kept Beomgyu pushed to the edge. The snow was getting thicker everywhere and Beomgyu didn't even care that he was shivering, all he could think was Taehyun and his lifeless body.
"Hold on, love." Beomgyu whispered, "Please don't leave me.."
Beomgyu had to remain strong for Taehyun. He needed to show him that he needed him in life and that his love for him never faltered.
"We're here.." Yeonjun announced. Beomgyu looked around and all the trees seemed lifeless as well, even Pixie Hollow, Taehyun's real home. Snow covered everything, nothing yellow and green as the spark of nature was present. All they could see were the thickness of snow, infinite snowflakes falling on their hairs and clothes, and the trees with no leaves on them. It was all just snow and cold.
The Pixie Hollow tree had gotten noticeable despite already being a big tree, because two figures were standing next to it. They squinted their eyes and Beomgyu concluded they turned to their human forms just like Taehyun. He probably gave them the same potions before he left for Seoul to be with Beomgyu.
First to rush to them was Kai and then Soobin. Beomgyu could remember how Taehyun talked fondly of them, and now all he could do was lower his head. He hated how the fairies had to witness him coming home with their friend lifeless in his arms.
"Oh, Taehyun.." Kai sniffled, caressing Taehyun's hair.
"What's going to happen to him?" Yeonjun softly asked.
Soobin hesitated to speak, he had to put it plainly and not coat his words. Every fairy knew this would happen anyway.
"He's dying."
Beomgyu saw the signs, but hearing it made his heart shatter into pieces like a broken glass. Shattered pieces that can never be picked up and repaired together once again. His brown eyes were glossy with tears, his lips quivered as he looked down to Taehyun in his arms.
"I.. I don't understand. Why did- Why is this happening? What should I do?" He muttered, his voice small and pained.
Soft gasps left Kai's lips as Soobin remained silent," Beomgyu, you really don't know?"
Even Kai was now crying with clenched hands as he spoke again, "Taehyun is a summer fairy. Just like all of the fairies in Pixie Hollow. He's only made for summer and he's fated to live for summer. But we can survive other seasons as well, other seasons aren't deadly for us but they're still not pleasant and healthy for summer fairies. Winter season is our biggest enemy. It means death to all summer fairies due to how extreme and cruel its coldness was. It was Taehyun's decision to be with you and leave Daegu, and his fellow fairies must respect it."
Beomgyu was left dumbfounded. His lips parted in shock, a proof that he wasn't aware of this matter.
Kai gulped, his tired eyes drooped as he gestured for Beomgyu, "Put him down. I need to check his vitals."
Yeonjun assisted Beomgyu, his knees dropping to the snow beneath them. Taehyun's upper frame was still in his arms, he cradled him firmly. Taehyun's head was against his shoulder as his hands wrapped around Taehyun's waist. As Kai crouched down, he checked Taehyun's wings. Then his fingers, his skin, before he brought a hand to Taehyun's heart. His magic took place as they glowed against the other's chest.
"This is bad," Kai said. "His wings are no longer glowing and the veins around them are slowly disappearing. His skin was pale and cold, which meant that the season already took over his body. All that was left was his beating heart."
"It's still beating?" Soobin asked with widened eyes.
"It's not enough, hyung." Kai replied, "It's too weak. His heart was freezing bit by bit. There's a low chance for him to survive."
Hearing all of this made Beomgyu's breath hitch, "I don't understand. I-If it's affecting him, why not you two as well?"
Soobin crouched beside Kai as he said, "We already left the hollow before the first day of falling of the leaves. We only came back for Taehyun. The winter fairies gave us potions to drink to survive a few hours here. Every winter, the winter fairies take over Pixie Hollow as us, summer fairies, travel far to find a less cold place. Currently, we're waiting for the arrival of the winter healing fairies."
Soobin held Taehyun's hand and examined the snowflakes on his skin, "Taehyun knew this. All of us did. But he still chose to follow you, he chose to be with you even if it meant putting his life on the line. He told us he didn't have the strength to be away from you anymore. He needed you so he will live."
"But.. I was with him. We've been together all along. Then why.." Beomgyu trailed off, tears never stopped betraying him.
"Like we said, he can't survive winter. He needed your body warmth," Soobin explained thoroughly, and that's when the next words fell to Beomgyu like knives stabbing his weak sides. "We only fall in love once. Normally, when a summer fairy falls in love with a different being and his love was reciprocated, it instantly connected them. Connection meant you guys are one, becoming one meant giving up what you have just for the one you love. Taehyun gave up everything he had just to spend the rest of his life with you. You, telling him that you love him was enough of an assurance for him to follow you even if you badly wanted to go to the ends of the world."
Bit by bit, all were sinking into Beomgyu's mind as he stiffened just right there with his hands trembling violently against Taehyun's frame. His little tears flowed down and some of them dropped on Taehyun's cheek.
"All fairies in Pixie Hollow thought Taehyun was lucky to have his love reciprocated. Because it meant that with your connection, he would absorb enough warmth from your body and he would have been able to survive the extreme winter. He would still fall sick and shiver at times but it's better than this.." Soobin trailed off as he looked down at Taehyun, placing a kiss on his hand before he gently caressed it. "Absorbing his love's body warmth would have kept him warm until the end of winter. He didn't need to come back to Daegu to go with us and search for a less cold place."
Kai glanced at Beomgyu. He hated how the human was the cause of all this but he knew if Taehyun's well at the moment, he would be defending Beomgyu against what Kai was about to speak about.
"We already warned him of the possibilities, he didn't listen. He was so sure with you and so for him, we trusted you." Kai softly said, eyeing the human. "I've seen this coming in my dream. But the future could always change so we thought you'd help Taehyun. You knew he needed you but you weren't there for him. Of all the times, why leave him alone in his most vulnerable days? Why leave him alone at the time his heart was slowly turning into ice? No other type of warmness could help him except if it's coming from you. Didn't he ask for your presence? Didn't he ask for your warmth?"
Beomgyu couldn't say anything. He remained stiff, only looking down at Taehyun's peaceful face. All those days, of course he remembered Taehyun asking for hugs and kisses, aware that whenever he's sticking with the fairy, the creature was absorbing warmth but he didn't know it was for Taehyun to actually survive and live.
"He did tell me about this," He choked up a sob, softly sniffling. "But I didn't know it was about life and death. I didn't know that while I was busy with college, I was being stupid and somehow just started ignoring him. I didn't mean it, really. I just.. I got caught up with everything else and forgot about the one I love the most who was always waiting for me to come home."
Yeonjun, who stayed silent the whole time and was still partially shocked to see two more fairies, decided to speak for Beomgyu as well. "He's new to relationships. He's never loved someone else other than Taehyun, so I uhh.. I could tell he really didn't mean to drift away from Taehyun all of a sudden."
Soobin weakly nodded, "We told Taehyun the same thing before they left for Seoul. He still went with Beomgyu." Without any more hesitation, Soobin took Taehyun from the human's grasp. Carefully placing a hand under the back of his knees and around his back before he stood up. As he did, Beomgyu looked up at him as he spoke.
"Right now, the fairies doubt the love you gave him, Beomgyu. It would be best if you pull yourself together before committing, especially with someone like Taehyun."
Beomgyu's heart felt empty hearing those words. His hands clenched while thinking of their doubt towards his love for Taehyun. He wanted to snap back, tell them that his love for the fairy never faltered, not even a bit. However, he was too weak to say it out loud. If Taehyun's awake and listening, would he question it as well?
Just in time as Kai stood up as well, the winter healing fairies came. They were small and flying around Kai and Soobin, some of them were already checking Taehyun's situation. Their skins were either white or blue, hairs were ice crystals. They look the same as normal winter fairies. Complete opposite of the summer fairies.
"I'm sorry for our late arrival, Soobin, Kai," one of them spoke, but the humans only heard soft tinkling sounds.
"Taehyun's body won't respond with this weather. We need to travel far and meet the Sicily fairies, they're the only ones with possibility who could thaw his frozen heart. We can keep his heart beating along the way, but there's still no guarantee that.." the fairy trailed off in sadness and Soobin nodded in understanding before he gestured for Kai to go.
"We need to leave now." Kai turned and was first to walk away. The tiny healing fairies flew along as Soobin was the last to turn on his heels.
With a baffled look, Beomgyu quickly stood up. "W-Wait! Where are you taking him?"
"Stand back, human." One little fairy said, launching some pixie dust towards Beomgyu, the dust flickering and pushing harshly until the latter fell back. Yeonjun was quick to catch him in time. Though they don't understand the fairies, it was clear that they were off limits. They were not welcome to follow further.
"You can keep my crystal ball." Kai turned to speak to them for the last time, he sighed, "Taehyun's heart doesn't have much time left. We're bringing him to southern Italy to meet with the Sicily fairies and hope for nothing maybe. That place is very warm even in the month of December and that's what his body needs now."
"But Italy is too far." Yeonjun said worriedly.
Soobin shook his head before he smiled sadly, "We have our ways. We're leaving now and don't expect to see us flying around here for some time."
"What do you mean?"
Soobin replied, "We don't know when we will be back."
Beomgyu weakly nodded. He badly wanted to go with them, be there for Taehyun but with the way the fairies' gazes despised him, he thought it would be best not to push through and follow them.
"W-Will he still be able to live?" Beomgyu's breath hitched as he asked. His own question sent thousands of needles piercing his heart as his eyes landed on Taehyun's face. He had no idea that these heavenly features of the fairy would cause a bigger damage to his heart, the lifeless image of his lover and his frozen heart, all because of him.
"Will I ever see him again?"
"It's all up to him. He'll survive if he's determined enough to be with you again."
~
Meeting Taehyun made the human feel himself floating in ecstasy. He was the comfort to Beomgyu's lonely heart, the long lost red string that connected to the human's pinky finger. Taehyun made him feel complete and perfect in his own image, Taehyun told him he was the most beautiful flower in the fairy's eyes. Beomgyu could still remember the way the pretty creature looked at him with the most adorable and lovely eyes. He remembered every single detail that not many would notice.
Taehyun was the sun to his rain, if not, then he was the one who brought an umbrella to protect Beomgyu from the heavy cry of the heavens. Taehyun gave up his innocent heart for him which he mended in his own way, and Beomgyu accepted him by reciprocating his love.
Beomgyu could still remember the way his eyes dilated the first time he saw Taehyun even in his little form. His natural distinctive features, glowing doe eyes showcasing a bit of shyness and sexiness at the same time, his silver hair was fluffy and just somehow looked too exquisite with his fluttering wings. His pointy ears perked as he looked up at Beomgyu in anticipation.
Beomgyu couldn't mentally list down more and more about Taehyun to which he realised the fairy wasn't just something or someone to his heart, he was everything.
He wasn't sure if the universe would still forgive him after hurting such a precious being who only aimed to love him until his last breath.
That night, he watched as the fairies took Taehyun away from him. And what he only did was cry in his best friend's arms, feeling the summer fairy's cold skin still lingering in his own hands. He wanted to go running and follow them, even if Italy was at the other side of the world. But he knew the first thing Taehyun would probably want now was for Beomgyu to stay behind.
He blamed it all to himself. He hated how such a stupid, mere, dumb, and shameful mistake took Taehyun from his grasp. Really, all he had to give was the kind of warmth that the fairy needed. He knew this, but then he failed Taehyun. Now he was lost, not knowing if he'd still be able to see the fairy. Memories came flooding his mind. Even the loving and happy ones became so painful to reminisce about.
"I'm sorry.."
Beomgyu whispered the same apology every day and night, hoping that it would reach Taehyun wherever he was.
Beomgyu woke up very late today. His hand sweeping the lamp beside his bed instead of slamming his alarm clock to turn it off. The days and weeks had been dreadful. His life went back to normal, before he met Taehyun.
That night in Daegu, they quickly left not to alarm his family of his sudden arrival. The ride back to his apartment was silent, Yeonjun insisted on staying but Beomgyu pleaded with him to leave, asking for some time alone. With worried eyes, Yeonjun nodded and left. Reassuring that he'll come by tomorrow.
When he was approached by his professors in college, he took the chance to decline the opportunity to perform in theatre. To him, what's the point of performing his own song when Taehyun was not there? After all, he remembered what the song was for, it was a composition just for Taehyun. Well, maybe he could still, but he was reminded of the fairy's promise.
"Someday, hyung. Your music will be known across the world.. and I will be there as you perform with your own music on a big stage for the first time."
So, no. Without Taehyun, he's willing to abandon the music sheet.
The month of December had Beomgyu shivering here and there. Winter started a little early in Korea, resulting in Taehyun losing the chance to tell Beomgyu about his dilemma which led them to where they were now. Taehyun being taken care of by other fairies in Italy, and Beomgyu back to his hometown.
He spent Christmas Eve with his family, they were asking about Yeonjun, his studies, and most of all, Taehyun. He had to lie on Taehyun's behalf not to take his family's happy smiles away. As they eat delicious food, Beomgyu couldn't help but look out the window. For the first time in his entire life, Christmas felt empty. He wasn't happy about the snow anymore. He thanked his family and other relatives for the gifts, only, he had to maintain a fake smile to hide his sadness.
He would sometimes go to the small forest, look up at Pixie Hollow tree, hoping that Taehyun would magically appear. The rest of the fairies weren't showing up anymore. Most of them still feared humans for disclosing their existence, Beomgyu understood it.
Spending hours in his room was as dreadful as the last time he saw Taehyun. All the memories and little adventures they had in his room brought tears to his eyes. It had been long and he thought he cried enough, but no, everywhere he looked, he would always see a vision of the younger. Taehyun's happy smile drove him over the edge. It was too painful, knowing his cries were silent. He can't show it to anyone else. His heart shattered like a broken glass, only this time, Taehyun was not there to pick up his pieces.
Christmas and New Year went by in a flash. Beomgyu was back to his apartment. He would still smile bitterly, seeing some of Taehyun's things scattering around his place. He noticed the crystal ball from Kai and decided to keep it beside the nightstand. The rest of the weeks, he distracted himself by cleaning his apartment and staying late at the university. He joined every activity he could that would stand his energy and mind, just to keep himself busy and his schedule packed.
He even agreed to all the crazy hangouts with Yeonjun and their other dudes, even meeting new friends to add to their circle. As it went longer, Beomgyu figured Taehyun wouldn't like to see him moping and crying all the time, so he needed to bring his bright self back, although he knew there would still be wounds under his new facade.
It was already spring time when he decided to take extra care of his veranda and Taehyun's plants. The short trees and flowers there regrew healthily, blooming prettily. On Sundays, he would sit at the bench and spend hours just staring at the scenery, he would talk to the plants like what Taehyun usually did.
As what he remembered, Taehyun would compliment the plants in order for them to grow fast.
Beomgyu, though, had other words to say.
"Taehyunnie.. I miss you. Come home soon, hm?"
~
It was the month of July, a muggy summer when he came back to Daegu with Yeonjun. After their university's convocation, Yeonjun had a plan to stay with him the rest of their summer.
He knew Yeonjun was up for a mission. They never brought up what happened months ago and Beomgyu was thankful for that. Yeonjun just instantly understood him. He was doing his best to keep Beomgyu distracted and busy. Three weeks into their stay in Daegu, they were hanging out at the mall, shopping whatever the heck they wanted, when suddenly, Yeonjun abruptly stopped when he spotted a girl handing out flyers with quite catchy designs.
Normally, people in the mall would ignore these workers who would always hand out flyers of their respective workplaces, Yeonjun was no different. So imagine Beomgyu's confused face when the older one grabbed the flyer that the girl was handing.
"Woah!" Yeonjun exclaimed in exaggeration. Despite already scanning the flyer with his eyes, he still asked the girl, "What's this for?"
"It's for the Summer Love Festival!" The girl chirped excitedly.
"Ohhh~" Yeonjun reacted quickly, but then his smile faltered. "It's my first time hearing about this kind of festival. Do you hear this often here in Daegu?"
Beomgyu shrugged, "Festivals here have always been the same ones as far as I could remember. This one's new to me as well."
Truthfully, there were no new festivals that had popped up. From the oldest people to the youngest kids of Beomgyu's hometown, everyone would think the same thing, this certain festival was new.
"Please come to the festival!" The girl exclaimed, "We have stalls and booths for games and taking pictures, there will be small rides, some entertainers and bands will perform as well. And! The highlight, lots of food! You should bring your friends and family as we help spread love across our hometown!"
The girl also handed Beomgyu another copy of the flyer for him to look at before the girl disappeared from their sight. Beomgyu stared at the flyer, slightly grimacing at the excessive amount of flickering golden dust at the edges of the flyer. The dust almost seemed magical and he furrowed his brows before looking around to eye the girl in suspicion. He doesn't even know why he would be suspicious over a simple girl who was only handing out flyers.
Before he could think further, Yeonjun snapped him out of it, "Yah! We should go, Gyu!"
"What? No-"
"Oh, come on! There's food and other stuff!" Yeonjun dramatically pointed at the flyer. "It seems fun! Plus, we should do something else other than playing video games and eating junk food in your room."
"Please. We both know you're only interested because there will be more food to devour at the festival."
"I am not going to comment on that," Yeonjun huffed as they started walking again. "So! What do you say?"
Yeonjun was right though. It was the middle of summer, so they should go out more and enjoy the season's heat instead of getting paled a little too much inside his room. Plus, there will be rides, right? He could drag Yeonjun there and make him try the rides since the older had a slight fear of those.
"Fine."
~
It appeared that Yeonjun was even more excited than the kids around them. Beomgyu himself was glad he agreed on this. The festival was bright, colourful, and full of happy faces.
Beomgyu was being dragged to the centre of the festival as his hyung yelled encouraging words at him. His family were going to another festival, a little far from where they were. Beomgyu figured it would really be best to enjoy the entire day with his best friend. After all, he owed him for putting up with his broken self for the past months.
"Oh, heck! You gotta try this!" Yeonjun screeched as he handed Beomgyu a slice of apple pie.
Beomgyu had a few small bites, nodding to himself as he chewed. It was really good, overtaking his expectations which he ended up asking for another slice. Yeonjun jumped behind as Beomgyu decided to buy the entire plate of the remaining pie. Most of the foods were homemade styles but there's a hint of professionalism that it reminded him of his mother. Yeonjun was already on his fifth slice while Beomgyu took his time to savour his own. As he did so, his thoughts started to wander somewhere else. A small smile plastered on his lips as he had a few glances at the other foods decorating the stalls.
A soft scoff escaped his lips, Yeonjun heard it and asked, "You good?"
Beomgyu nodded, "Yeah.. I just.. the food here reminded me of Taehyun-"
He wasn't able to finish what he was saying when he looked back at the aligned foods once again and noticed at the end of the stall. His heart clenched when he went closer and there came to his clear view a wooden plate of a bar of cheese, milk dripping on its corners as the familiar types of leaves scattered on top of the cheese.
"Hyung-"
"What?"
"This!" He chuckled sadly, dragging Yeonjun beside him. "This is Taehyun's favourite fairy food. What the heck is this dish doing here?"
"Fairy food?" Yeonjun asked, totally confused. That's when Beomgyu's mind started to brainstorm as he connected a few nonsensical dots. What the fuck? Why would that disgusting food be served at the stall? That's certainly a food that only fairies knew, including Beomgyu.
Hold up-
"Speaking of fairy," Yeonjun gulped, trying to gain Beomgyu's attention by elbowing him. "I've been meaning to tell you this.. that fairy dude, Soobin, might have.. sort of pulled on my heartstrings way back in December."
That snapped Beomgyu out of his gathering of thoughts, "What? The hell?"
"Also uh.. I kind of accidentally found him yesterday in your garden while he was on his tiny form-"
"Yesterday? Soobin?!"
Before Beomgyu could even yell out his conclusions, a bunch of kids came running past them. There's too many of them that Yeonjun and Beomgyu got squeezed and ended up getting pushed towards the centre of the festival. Their tall figures towering over the small kids as they cheered the same chant over and over again.
"Free hugs! Free hugs!"
Perplexed, Beomgyu shot Yeonjun a what-the-fuck-is-going-on look and the older just laughed, letting himself get pushed to where the kids were heading to. "It's called 'Summer Love' festival for a reason, Gyu!" He cheekily yelled, bringing up a finger heart.
The centre of the festival was heavily decorated with so much colour and beauty. There was a small circular podium at the front, aerial plants were scattering above them and exquisite green vines were wrapping the six roofless pillars around the rough wooden plank dance floor. Varieties of flowers were in every corner and short foxtail palm trees were creating little shades in some areas as the sun was shining oh so brightly.
More foods came into their view, all aligned on a very long table. Fun chattering could be heard everywhere as the place wasn't only swarmed with kids but also the rest of the members of their families, it would seem their other relatives were also present. Some were groups of friends who came from other towns just to visit this festival, some were lovers and tourists.
"I know that festivals are fun but this one just topped my list!" Yeonjun exclaimed loudly.
Beomgyu rolled his eyes, just in time when someone spoke at the podium.
"Ohhh~ I see the kids are learning quickly! Great!" It's the same girl from the mall days ago. They concluded, she must be the organiser or the mastermind of this festival.
"Remember kids, at your young age, exploring never gets boring! It's the same way as loving someone, be it your friend or your family, love is such a wonderful thing to feel despite how complex it is." The girl said with a gentle voice, holding the mic nearer to her lips. "You, cuties, are still young so let's not talk about romantic love, hm? I might get cancelled."
Her simple joke brought soft laughter across the place as the adults found it amusing. Beomgyu nodded in agreement as well.
"But, before we start attacking the snacks, let us wrap this up quickly," She kindly smiled, "This is a quick lesson to everyone. Love, in any form and kind, it's still beautiful. It will always be beautiful. Whoever you are, whatever you are, if you think the whole world is against you, I want you to remember that you will never be alone in this. Someone out there, at least one soul, will love you like no other can. You occupy a special place in someone's heart. It can be a family member, a friend, a lover.. or even a stranger."
Beomgyu's breath was slightly shaking at that though he felt at ease that everyone in this festival seemed to have their minds united with the girl's words. He was happy actually, that all these people were understanding what the girl wanted to deliver through her words. He remembered falling for a summer fairy who was a stranger to him but showered him love through small actions, thinking his love will forever be unrequited.
"Always keep in mind that there will always be someone to keep you on your feet, have you realise your worth, make you happy in all the days of your life and teach you the real meaning of love."
It's the part where Beomgyu started to overthink, his surroundings reminded him of this one certain fairy. The foods, damn, he looked over the tables and his eyes caught the mouth-watering cheese tteokbokki, it was Taehyun's favourite human food. The flowers and other plants, the brightness of the atmosphere, the sudden sweet scent filling his nostrils and a very familiar voice.
"Thank you all for listening." The voice was gentle and sweet, a little husky and alluring. No one would fail to notice that voice and so Beomgyu, with his heart clenching and insanely palpitating, he whipped his head back towards the podium.
The same bright, brown doe eyes, small face, defined jawline and prominent cheeks, complemented with his now purple hair. He looked really handsome, and pretty, and healthier than the last time Beomgyu saw him. The human's heart clenched painfully, his breath hitched and tears started to build up at the corners of his eyes.
It was Taehyun.
His heart was in shambles, shocked and wanted to bleed. Though he had hoped and prayed for weeks and months, he was still not sure if Taehyun would come back. He definitely wasn't dreaming. Standing at the podium with the microphone now in his left hand, the same image Beomgyu longed to see for the past months. His weak heart telling him to go reach out to him, but he stilled there, dumbfounded and lost in Taehyun's smile.
"I'm happy to see that this festival's very first year gained love and recognition. I wish you all the happiness you deserve as you find love, comfort, and warmth from the people you cherish." Taehyun softly said and a few encouraging words and wishes were returned to him. As he listened to those, just a small sad smile crept onto his face.
"Let's set the drama aside now, okay?" Taehyun humoured and earned quite a few laughs. "The food is all for you to dig in, I hope you enjoy our type of cooking and recipes. As for the fruit fairy cakes, we'll serve a slice to each of you. Happy eating!"
The people cheered and scattered around once again, falling on short lines as they reached the tables to taste the dishes.
Taehyun sighed in relief, seeing that the festival was going well. He turned to his side and handed the microphone back to the girl before she left to organise something. Taehyun was about to look around and he would've seen a certain human he missed so much if it weren't for the kids in front of him surrounded the podium with open arms.
"What?" Taehyun tilted his head in confusion and the kids pouted at him, some were even teary-eyed and about to cry loudly.
That's when he remembered, "Oh- right," He smiled widely at them and opened his arms, the kids' eyes sparkled in happiness as he asked. "Free hugs?"
Tiny and loud squeals echoed as the kids attacked Taehyun with hugs. He bent to reach their level as some of the kids clung around his legs and arms. The kids seemed very fond of him, they were naturally being pulled by Taehyun's presence.
Beomgyu watched the sight with little tears escaping his eyes. He stood frozen there, his state couldn't seem to relate to the warmness of Taehyun's smile and the actual warmth he was emitting oh so sweetly.
"What the hell are you waiting for?" Yeonjun, who was standing behind him this whole time, nudged him forward with so much strength.
Beomgyu came back to his senses and before he knew it, his feet brought him forward as the kids started to skip off to go to their parents. Taehyun waved at them and after seeing a figure in his peripheral vision, he instantly looked back. His smile faltered in shock, his eyes widened as he stepped back.
All those months, it felt so long and so slow. A day was already dreadful and empty for Beomgyu without Taehyun on his side. Those months still led them to seeing each other again in summer.
Now standing in front of each other, it still felt surreal. Only this time they will be able to hold each other. Their gazes locked together, waves of memories came flashing as the world blurred around them.
With quivering lips, Taehyun spoke softly, "Free hugs?"
Beomgyu's tears streamed down as he came crashing into Taehyun's arms, almost stumbling together. His arms wrapped firmly around the younger's neck as he sobbed. Taehyun's heart broke at that, one arm held the older by his waist and the other came up to gently stroke his hair. Beomgyu's sobs softened a little as he took in the fairy's scent. All the familiar and calming feelings washed over him.
"I- I missed you, Taehyun." He mumbled and Taehyun was quick to tighten the hug.
"I missed you too, hyung." Taehyun whispered, his own tears trickling down. They figured, waiting for each other was worth it.
Beomgyu was shaking his head, "No, I miss you so so much. I- I hope it's not too late. Don't worry, I'll pay more attention this time! I'll give you the warmest hugs on cold days that you wouldn't even need to ask, a-and we'll go on many many dates and watch your favourite movies and we'll water your plants together every single day, I'll be a better cook so I can make your cheese bar with poisonous leaves and- uhh.. will you give us a chance? T-This is so sudden, I didn't think I'd be able to see you again. I hope you still feel the way you-"
The human was panicking, he feared if he didn't speak soon about it, he'd lose his chance to make things right for him and for Taehyun.
"Beomgyu, shush! Calm down," Taehyun said, pulling away to look at his face.
The human was a cry baby, Taehyun almost forgot. He was cutely rubbing his eyes as he rambled, "I'm sorry, Taehyunnie. I know I wasn't the best hyung you could ever ask and I'm sorry I wasn't even aware I was hurting you during those days. I was too dumb to realise what I was doing and it would sound stupid if I say that I shouldn't have done that, because I already did. I'm sorry I didn't keep my promises and made you feel alone. Saying that I still love you would be meaningless if I don't show how much I love you through my actions, not words."
"No, Beomgyu, please calm down for me?" Taehyun asked softly, wiping away the older's stray tears with his thumb. "Let's clear some things out, you cry baby."
Taehyun tugged on his arm, gently squeezing his wrist for comfort. His heart swelled knowing that the older carried these regrets and had been blaming himself for months while he was gone. He knew the older would be like this, because he remembered the older loved him.
He still does.
~
The festival wasn't just any normal festival. Yeonjun and Beomgyu later found out it was hosted by the fairies who were in their human form. Mainly, the fairies from Pixie Hollow tree, the tree in Beomgyu's family's small forest.
"The festival was fun and energising and will continue for the next few days. We had to keep Taehyun happy so while we were in Italy, we memorised all the instructions of the Sicily fairies in order to keep the warmth in Taehyun's heart. After they succeeded in thawing his heart, which was very rare to happen in our history, we kept him distracted and having fun. But no matter how we try to make him happy, there's a glint of sadness in his eyes and we all know the reason behind it. We know Beomgyu's a kind person and he never meant for any of this to happen, but even if he did hurt Taehyun on purpose and on full awareness, Taehyun will still end up running and searching for his human. Because his heart only seeked for Beomgyu. Through the years, he had been loyal and true to Beomgyu. The Sicily fairies' first plan was for Taehyun to stay in Italy forever, but you know him, he's a stubborn brat. And he's happier here watching his human make music and play video games in his room. He was supposed to surprise Beomgyu later with his arrival, well, we're the ones who got surprised to see Beomgyu at the festival. We thought he's going with his family to another event."
Yeonjun listened to Soobin carefully. As a friend, he truly admired Taehyun's love for his dumb best friend. He already cried once thinking Beomgyu will be alone for the rest of his life.
They were currently walking by the shore. Kai trailing behind all of them as he played games on Beomgyu's phone. Beomgyu and Taehyun were walking ahead of them.
"It's summer already though," Yeonjun said. "Isn't the temperature already warm enough for Taehyun just like you and Kai?"
"He's warm enough, but his heart is still recovering." Soobin replied. "If he and Beomgyu patch things up quickly, he'll be alright."
There was a long silence, a bit strange. Soobin knew how much of a talker Yeonjun was so when he turned to look at the other, he was already staring.
"The hell you lookin' at?" Soobin huffed.
Another string of awkward silence enveloped them before Yeonjun managed to gather up strength to say something he'd been casually trying to keep for some time.
"Are you single?"
Pause. A long pause again until they heard a loud snort from Kai from behind them. Soobin stared back blankly before he said, "We're not going to be the next version of Beomgyu and Taehyun. What happened to them was traumatising."
Soobin walked faster, leaving a dumbfounded Yeonjun behind.
"Yah! You're thinking advance- I was just-"
"Shut up, human!"
Kai lazily walked behind them, occasionally laughing as he mumbled, "Gonna have to get used to this."
Minutes later and they just goofed around. Kai was splashing water towards Soobin and Yeonjun. The oldest was trying to flirt with the second oldest. The sun was nearing the horizon, painting the sky in different hues.
Beomgyu and Taehyun were at the far end of the beach where they sat on the big rocks. It was the same place they were spending time together the first time they confessed their love for each other, somehow in a direct and indirect way.
"I missed you." Beomgyu said, tracing the plains on Taehyun's palm.
"You've been saying that for the past three hours."
They sat side by side on a big rock, facing the beautiful sunset. Beomgyu was still a bit surprised to see Taehyun. He never predicted a day he'll see him again, or will Taehyun even think of coming home?
Of course.
Taehyun's home has always been Beomgyu.
"I'm sorry, Hyun. For everything," Beomgyu mumbled, his head falling on the younger's shoulder.
"It was all my fault," Beomgyu said, his voice getting softer. "I promised to give you everything I could and yet I failed. I didn't think the winter season would affect you like that, I didn't think the cold would freeze your heart. Yes, I knew you're a summer fairy and I should've remembered what you said about you, needing to absorb my body warmth. When they told me you would've survived if I stayed by your side, it already sounded that I would lose you forever. I regretted not being open enough for you to share that conflict of yours as a fairy."
Beomgyu stopped tracing Taehyun's palm and instead, he clasped it with his own hand. He sat straight, turning a bit to look at Taehyun and used his free hand to caress the fairy's face.
"You were there for me when I thought my life was already perfect yet still felt like a piece was missing, as if a long lost piece that would mend my heart was somewhere out there. I wasn't actually broken when we found each other, but somehow, you fixed me. You completed me until you were no longer a passerby. I knew right then I wanted you to be there for me forever. I realise I don't need a big stage to convey what I feel, because my heart only sings for you."
Taehyun listened with crescent eyes, his smile was genuine and beautiful. Though tears were flowing down his cheeks, he still looked lovely like the first time Beomgyu met him.
"This time, let me be there for you. You picked up your pieces and fixed yourself before, thinking that your love didn't deserve to be returned." Beomgyu continued to speak as he lowered his head to kiss Taehyun's knuckles. "Now please.. let me fix you. Let me fix us."
Beomgyu looked at Taehyun, all his mixed emotions reflected through his eyes and the fairy found it all. The older has always had a natural loving gaze. But this time, there was a mix of weariness and nervousness.
Taehyun smiled, now he was the one cupping Beomgyu's cheeks. "I accept your apology, hyung. I know you didn't mean all of those to happen but if you really think you were at fault… I need you to know that I'm at fault too."
Beomgyu pursed his lips at that as Taehyun added, "I should've told you about it as well. I know you knew that I needed your warmth but.. you were really not aware that the cold could kill me. I should've told you about it."
"We should work on our communication then.." Beomgyu trailed off, "Everyone in a romantic relationship needs that."
"Yeah.. let's figure more things together."
They heard a loud screech and an annoyed yell, they turned to see their friends still splashing water at each other. Yeonjun and Soobin somehow having a spark, Beomgyu and Taehyun could tell. Kai was also there having the time of his life, laughing a little too much as Soobin drowned Yeonjun playfully just a few metres away from the shore.
"You two- just freaking kiss already before Yeonjun decides to crash your moment!" Soobin yelled at them as he pulled Yeonjun back before he could even run back to the shore.
"I'm filming this." Kai said as he used Beomgyu's phone to record the scene.
"Those idiots," Taehyun commented before he looked back at Beomgyu, only to find the older already staring at him.
"What?"
Beomgyu chirped, "Can I see your wings?"
Taehyun chuckled before nodding. It reminded him of the same time they were there almost a year ago. Beomgyu asked him to transform back and him giving up and taking some purple pixie dust out.
"Let me!" Beomgyu excitedly scooped the glowing dust from Taehyun's hand before he gently let it shower onto the fairy. Finally, Taehyun's ears turned pointy, his eyes glowed and his scent had gotten sweeter. His wings spread wide, stretching up with so much strength that it flapped against the wind. They shined exquisitely as the yellow and green hues complemented Taehyun's natural skin.
"Beautiful as ever," Beomgyu smiled lovingly, staring at Taehyun's eyes.
"You're more beautiful.." Taehyun said. They stayed like that before they both had a rush of confidence. Both leaned in to inch closer and closer, their breath ghosting against each other's skin until they finally connected their lips.
Beomgyu sighed at the feeling. His hand went up to pull the fairy by his nape and the other reciprocated it. Hands entangled in his hair as they kissed softly. Indulging at the feeling of each other's touch they both missed. Beomgyu realised, even with today's summer heat, his heart seemed cold. Not until he finally found Taehyun again. This time, the summer fairy was the one who brought him warmth.
"Be mine.. forever." Taehyun whispered in between their kisses.
Beomgyu kissed back with a little more pressure, his teeth slightly biting on Taehyun's lower lip, "I'm all yours."
As always, their kisses were magical and beautiful. Conveying the rest of the words they wanted to say through this kiss, they both know having another chance for what they have will strengthen them and they inwardly promised not to let anything tear them apart anymore. Their connection bloomed once again, like an ability they could use to face the final level of the universe against them.
Yeonjun, Soobin and Kai fondly watched them, soft cheers were heard. They were happy to remember that they helped such a pure and kind love between Beomgyu and Taehyun.
Their kiss softened before they pulled away, Beomgyu then leaned his forehead against Taehyun's as their hands intertwined. The sun painted their skin in a mix of hues as Taehyun's body emitted a different glow of happiness as Beomgyu giggled.
"I love you, Taehyun." The older whispered, "My summer fairy."
"Beomgyu.." The younger one chuckled softly, "I love you too."
Their smiles grew wider, their strong connection took place as they both knew what they were about to say next that they would hold onto forever.
"Till the end of the world."
