Summary:

“I’m a hunter. Claire Mills Novak. Might ring a bell?” Claire replied, proudly.

The pair looked at each other, then looked back at Claire, and laughed.

“Yeah, we have no idea who you are.” Alicia told her, patting her shoulder; Claire deflated slightly.

or,

Claire Novak and Alicia Banes have a meet-ugly in a barn during vampire hunt, and Claire might have a crush.

Work Text:

“Jody, don’t worry about me. I’ve got this under control.” Claire explained to Jody over the phone as she stepped out of her car. She took in her surroundings, it was a pretty rural area. Nothing but dirt roads and trees as far as the eye could see.

“You know I worry, I can’t help it. You’re hunting on your own!” Jody replied.

“Like I haven’t done that for like, 4 years now,” Claire said, heading to the trunk where she kept her hunting equipment. The trunk swung open with a slight squeal, it was a pretty old car. “Besides, I have this cool sword.” She pulled it out of her trunk and slashed it at the air with her free hand.

“Claire, this is a vampire nest, we’re talking about!”

Claire rolled her eyes at Jody’s stern tone. “You’re making this a big deal.”

“Claire Mills Novak, I know you’re rolling your eyes at me.”

“Am not.”

“You totally were!”

“How would you know, you can’t even see me!”

“Oh, but I know you and your attitude. You’re practically oozing eye rolls and snarky comments, but that’s besides the point. Are you sure I can’t convince you to wait a little for hunter backup?” Jody asks.

“Nope,” Claire pops the p for emphasis.

“Fine, fine. Be careful alright? I love you.”

“Love ya too, Jods.” Claire says with a smile before hanging up.

It was time for her to get her hunt on, facing down a group of Vamps. She had been tracking them for about a week now, and now after a late night stalk out, one of them led her straight to their nest.

It was like taking candy from a baby with her element of surprise and killer sword. Nothing could stop her now.

She slammed the trunk closed, a bit too hard, as it made a resounding boom sound.

Okay, well with her killer sword, nothing could stop her now.

Claire made her way to the barn, the vampires’ nest, and tugged her leather jacket more over her hands. It was kinda chilly.

“Rebel girl, rebel girl. Rebel girl, you are the queen of my world.” Claire hummed under her breath as she reached the closed barn doors. “Rebel girl, rebel girl. I think I wanna take you home. I wanna try on your clothes, uh.”

If she wanted to try to keep the remains of her element of surprise, she knew she would have to find another way in. Continuing to hum, she headed around the side of the barn in search of a window, or some type of entrance.

“Ah-ha!” She mumbled in triumph when she found an open window. Well, the leftovers of an open window, as it seemed someone had the same idea as her to break into this barn.

Maybe it was the Vamps, who knows?

With a shrug, she put down her sword and took off her jacket to protect her hands. Claire then threw her sword through the window, and winced when it landed with a clank

It was her turn now to climb through and she grasped the edges of the window. Lifting herself up to fit through, she thanked God for those extra training days where she worked on her arms.

Claire did manage to land inside the barn and not on her sword, but she made a loud thunk sound.

“What was that?” a loud voice asked from deeper in the barn.

“Fuck!” she exclaimed under her breath. Quickly, she got up and wiped her hands on her shirt to get the dirt on her hands off. Grabbing her sword like her life was in danger– well it was– Claire headed towards the sound.

“You think we missed one?” Another voice replied to the first.

Oh Ms. Vampire, you’re going to be missing your life in a few seconds, Claire thought to herself.

She had to come up with better catchphrases.

“C’mon, let’s go check it out.”

The footsteps were heading towards her now, and Claire felt herself grinning, grasping tighter at her sword.

“Yuck, I think I got some of them in my hair.”

“Like it matters, it’s your hair wash day tomorrow, isn’t it?”

“Still it’s gross, I-” Before the vampire could finish her sentence, Claire ran forward with her sword, with a “Rah!”

“Oh fuck!” The other vampire exclaimed.

What was supposed to be an attempt at decapitation, Claire stumbled on a spare bucket lying on the barn floor.

Her sword did hit her mark, per say, as the sword stabbed the vampire girl’s shoulder. Claire gaping at her from her spot on the ground, eyes wide.

“Ow! What the hell! They’re giving vampires swords now?” The vampire girl muttered while the guy vampire stared at her in shock.

“Vampire?” Claire asked, cluelessly. She was still on her knees staring up at the vampire-??-girl. Okay, looking more clearly at the other girl now, she couldn’t really tell if she was undead. The girl had light brown skin, shoulder length brown curly hair, dark brown eyes framed by long lashes almost giving her a doe eyed look– and a sword in her shoulder.

“Yeah? You know what you are?” The girl replied, with a raised eyebrow. “Bloodsuckers, monsters of the night, Edward Collins wannabe’s,-- I can’t continue this with this fucking sword in my shoulder.”

“Alicia, wait!” The guy called out to the not-so vampire girl. She didn’t listen to him, bringing her hand that was connected to her stabbed shoulder to grasp the hilt of the sword.

Slowly, the sword was pulled from her shoulder before it fell on the floor in front of Claire. Claire could only look at the girl– Alicia– in shock, her mouth wide open and eyes wide.

Alicia rolled back her shoulder as if she was popping it back in, and smiled. “All good,” she flashed a thumbs up at the guy.

“How- how did you do that?” Claire asked, in amazement.

“I don’t reveal my secrets to vampires, even if they’re pretty girls.” Alicia reached down, grasping Claire by the front of her shirt and pulling her eye level.

Claire immediately flushed at the “pretty girl” part of Alicia’s comment and her eyes fell to Alicia’s lips. They were kinda shiny, probably from lip gloss. Claire wondered if it was cherry flavored, Alicia didn’t seem like that kind of cliche though. It was probably– wait!

“Not a vampire!” Claire blurted out, raising her hands in surrender.

“I’m supposed to believe that? You stabbed me!”

“Well… yeah because I thought you were a vampire.” Claire mumbled.

“I’m not,” Alicia said, letting go of Claire’s shirt to cross her arms.

“If you’re not a vampire, what are you doing here?” The other guy asked and Claire’s shoulders jumped. She had forgotten he was there, so caught up in talking with Alicia.

“Who are you guys anyways?” Claire turned the question back on them. “You’re obviously not human if you can pull a sword out of your goddamn shoulder.” She gestured at Alicia.

“We’re the Banes twins. I’m Max, I’m a witch,” the guy pointed at himself and then nodded at Alicia, “she’s Alicia.”

“That doesn’t ring any bells, either… Just so you know.” Claire retorted.

Alicia and Max both rolled their eyes at her in sync. “Okay, Claire Mills Novak.” Alicia teased.

Claire’s cheeks redden at that, she kind of liked when Alicia said her name.

“Well, I’ve hunted with the Winchesters. Maybe, you’ve heard of them.” Claire attempts to redeem her reputation.

“Who hasn’t heard of them.” Alicia says. “But who hasn’t hunted with them.”

“Yeah, they’re kind of… easy to hunt with,” Max adds.

“Okay, They do not hunt with everyone!” Claire argues.

“Bet you can talk to any hunter and they’ll tell you how they had a ghost or werewolf or angel or demon or, you get the point, problem and the Winchesters helped them out.”

“Uh, yeah because that’s them saving those hunter’s asses. Not hunting with them. Two totally different levels.”

“Oh, and I guess you call you showing up out of nowhere on Max and I’s hunt, ‘Hunting with us.’” Alicia quipped, making quotation marks with her fingers.

“This was my hunt! I’ve been after this nest for a week! You know how much my back hurts from sitting in my car all day surveilling these guys?”

“That’s supposed to be my problem? Maybe if you realized they were hunting teenage girls you would’ve used yourself as bait like I did.”

“Endangering yourself for a hunt? Realllll smart.”

Without realizing it, the two had gravitated closer to each other, and their faces were inches apart. Both of them blushed at the realization, and moved to create distance between each other.

All while their argument happened, Max watched, clearly amused by their antics.

“What are you smiling about?” Alicia flashed Max a scowl.

“Nothing, you two are real cute together.”

“Oh, as if!”

“Yeah, right!”

Alicia and Claire exclaimed at the same time, and then they met each other’s eyes.

“What do you mean 'yeah, right?' I’m totally a catch,” Alicia quipped.

“‘Oh, as if?’ What is this the 90’s? Anyone would be happy to date me,” Claire snapped back.

Their words incited another argument, and they were drawn to each other again.

Max rolled his eyes, it was no longer amusing. He wondered how long their arguing would last, but he wouldn’t have to think about it for too long as Claire’s phone started ringing.

Well more like, “Let’s have a Kiki,” from Glee started blaring from her phone.

“It’s- I didn’t choose- Ugh.” She tried to explain before answering the phone.

“Jack? Did you change my ringtone again?” Jack presumably replied as Claire threw her arms up in exasperation.  “Yes, everything on the hunt went well.” Claire’s eyes flickered to the twins. “Yes, I’ll be back in time so we can watch The Sopranos.”

The twins both heard a small “Awesome!” that loudly came from Claire’s phone, and Claire winced at the volume.

“Goodbye, dude,” she hung up on her phone before her eyes met Alicia’s.

“Where were we? I think I was saying something about how-” Claire tried to start but Max interrupted.

“Okay, okay. We are not doing this again. I get it, this is some weird gay women ritual and you both want to screw-”

Both Alicia and Claire gasped at his words, wanting to object.

“Some of us have to get some sleep, you know, just killed a nest of vampires.” Max replied, quickly before they could get their objections in.

“Yeah, maybe you should try it, Novak.” Alicia said smugly.

“Oh, you asshole!” Claire exclaimed.

“Just stating the obvious,” Alicia stepped closer to Claire.

“Enough, ‘licia.” Max said, grabbing her by the shoulders to steer her to the barn door exit.

“My number’s 325-930-6775, you know. If you want some pointers on being a better hunter.” Alicia called over her shoulder.

“Like I’m supposed to remember all that!” Claire called back, even though she was now repeating the numbers over and over in her head. 3-2-5… 9-3-0…6-7-7-5… 3-2-5…

“Better luck next time, Novak!” Alicia yelled before the barn doors shut.

Of course she had to have the last words.

Claire picked up her sword, and frowned at the lack of blood. What was Alicia? Neither twin had answered her question when Claire asked about her.

Heading back to her car, Claire thought of theories about what Alicia was. Maybe she was a siren or something, though Claire had never met one, it would explain why she couldn’t take her eyes off of Alicia.

When she stopped by the bunker, Claire would have to ask Dean about sirens, remembering Sam had said something in passing about the time Dean fell for a siren’s wiles.

She slipped into her car after putting her sword back into the trunk. Biting her lip, she didn’t start her car yet, instead Claire sat there for a moment thinking.

Mind made up she pulled out her phone, unlocking and tapping the button to add a new contact.

3-2-5 9-3-0 6-7-7-5, she typed. When she got to the new contact name section, she looked around as if she was going to be caught.

And she typed “Alicia 💘💘.”

Bringing the phone close to her chest, she smiled cheesily before snapping out of it.

“What am I, a school girl with a crush?” Claire mumbled under her breath. Maybe she was, but that was not a can of worms she was opening right now.

“So Cher, how many vamps were there?” She sent the text to Alicia.

Instantly, there was a typing bubble that appeared on screen.

Claire smiled.
