"I think I loved you once."
The words of an old knight rang out against the vast grassy pain, the sky was a beautiful orange color tinting all that it could touch in it's hue. It was the after life he thought. It's so beautiful though, flowers bloom brilliantly and vibrantly, he could almost feel hungry again if those needs still existed within the body of the old knight. He should really thank them for this.
"Did you?"
A crimson butterfly comes into view, landing on the knight's horn with gentle grace. Always so gentle, so kind, so merciful.
"Yeah," The Galactic knight would shift into a sitting position slowly so as to not disturb the butterfly. "I remember my friends making fun of me for it too."
He would hear a laugh, it rang like butter in his ear.
"What else do you remember?" the butterfly asks.
Galacta Knight- Aeon's memories had been tarnished and decayed from years of being imprisoned in a silent crystal hell, but he remembered just enough to know how much he adored his friends, how much he adored the butterfly.
"Not much.. I remember laying in your lap though, after a long battle- forgot what it was for, remember how soft your fingers were through my hair. How you'd always calm my thoughts with just your presence.. You've always been gentle, but firm. I remember Elfilis pushing me into you after failing to make me say I love you."
The butterfly only giggled as Aeon recounted his scattered memories.
"I think I loved you too." It'd reply.
"I think I still love you."
"I think I do too."
Aeon smiled, and lay back down upon the soft grass. "Thank you for saving me, thank you for bringing me peace."
Once the Aeon hero feared death. Once he was worried his soul was sullied, and that a paradise was unreachable to him, that he was beyond saving.
But he was saved.
And by a dearest friend no less.
Yes, the gods have blessed him. But he'd never expect the blessing to be from death, one he'd known almost all his life.
The butterfly flew off of his nose, away now transforming into a knight clad in scarlet armor, beautiful wings that compliment the background perfectly. They'd lay down next to the knight, embracing him tightly, to which he'd respond by wrapping fluffy wings around them.
There were no more words said between the two, only a gentle loving embrace of old lovers reunited.
Once he'd hope it'd last forever, but now? He knows it will.
