Summary
The once proud ship was in ruin, foremast broken to less than half its original height, the sails hung in tatters, waving gently in the light breeze, and most importantly there was a gaping, splintered hole in the hull.
Some of the crew were in the shallows, collecting any debris they could find and hauling it to shore, and Stede could only stare. This was the ship that saved him from a life of unhappiness and monotony, the only home he had ever known, his heart ached that he had allowed her to come by such damage, that he hadn’t been able to keep her safe.
