Work Text:
Keefe slammed his hands on the counter and glared at the person approaching him.
"Sophie Elizabeth Foster. I haven't heard from you in over a week-"
Sophie ran a hand through her hair, "I know, but-"
"Not even a text, no 'hey, I'm alive by the way' I was-"
"Wait how do you know my middle-"
"And now you have the nerve to interrupt me when I'm trying to talk you! I have been worried sick! Where have you been?"
He folded his arms and raised his eyebrows.
"How do you know my middle name?"
"I work with your cousin. He lets things slip."
"I'm gonna k-"
"This isn't about him!"
Sophie let out a long groan has she leaned back in her chair, nearly tipping it over.
"You know what finals are like."
"True, but you could've just like- let me know you were still alive? I doubt texting the word 'hi' could eat into your time too much?"
"Right," she smiled. "I'll keep that in mind for next time."
"Thank you!" he threw his hands up.
"Nice to know you were worried though."
"I wasn't- you- ugh," he put his face in his hands. "I take back everything I said. Begone, peasant."
"You're in a good mood."
"Hey. You're not the only one who just finished finals. And some of us had to get through it without caffeine and with a job."
"Seems like a you problem. Also, speaking of caffeine…"
Keefe groaned and slid to the ground, "Y'know, some people greet their friends with a 'hello'. You should try it sometime."
"Okay, first off, you're starting to sound more and more like my mother with every passing second. Second, you work at a coffee shop. Third, you're the one who started yelling at me before I had the chance to sit down."
She could feel him rolling his eyes from beneath the counter.
"You don't have to be right all the time. You know that, right?"
"Maybe if you weren't such an as-"
"Hey!" he shot up "there are children here! I'm getting your coffee!" Keefe turned on his heel and started walking away. "God knows you need it…"
"I heard that!"

“So, are you going home for the holidays?”
Sophie stirred her coffee slowly, “Nah, both my parents have a lot of work stuff going on… But my sister is visiting!”
“That sound nice! Maybe can finally learn some embarrassing childhood stories about you!”
“I am suddenly regretting giving you this information,” she deadpanned. “Do you have any plans for the holidays?”
“Not going home, but Fitz and I are hosting a party in a few days-hey! You should come! Bring your sister if she’s here!”
She turned her head to a side.
“What?”
“I don’t know… I guess it’s just sort of strange? I mean. We haven’t really hung out outside of the coffee shop?”
Keefe blinked.
“Okay, yeah, but I think you should be convinced by now that I’m not an axe murderer?”
“You could use another weapon-“
“And you’ve known me for like five months, and we go to the same college, we’re bound to run into each other outside of here at some point- you’ve known my roommate for longer! And I know for a fact that you’ve been to our apartment before!”
“I know… but will I even know anyone there other than you and Fitz?”
“Ah,” he nodded. “I see what’s happening here. “You’re afraid you’ll fall in love with me if we spend too much time together. I get it, it’s happened before…”
Sophie straightened up and sarcastically put a hand over her heart.
“Excuse me sire, but are you flirting with me? I have a boyfriend!” she flipped her hair and rolled her eyes.
Keefe nodded, “Of course, how could someone as gorgeous as you possibly be single. But who is this man, who has stolen you away from me?”
“Fitz Vacker.”
He gasped, putting a hand over his forehead and dramatically leaning against the wall.
“I can’t believe my husband is cheating on me!”
She slammed her hands on the counter, “Your husband!? I refuse to believe this!”
“We live together too!”
“How does that prove anything?”
“Why is that what you’re focusing on, homewrecker! He’s cheating on both of us!”
She stood up and pointed at Keefe, “How dare you call me a homewrecker! What kind of married man flirts with-”
“I can’t believe you have the audacity to blame this on me! You-”
Dex threw a towel at Keefe.
“Hey nerd! Get back to work!”
Keefe threw the towel back.
“Can you give me a minute? I just learned that my husband is cheating on me!”
Dex threw the towel back.
“I don’t care.”
Keefe groaned and turned to Sophie.
“I don’t like your cousin.”
“I’m not deaf.”
“Anyway,” He ignored Dex. “Duty calls. But this isn’t over, Foster.”
“Wait- The coffee got cold!”
