Eugene: This is the story of how I died....

Valor: Ah.. didn’t we all ready cover that one Eugene?

Eugene: *groans* Wolfe not again. And yes we did. Plus if remember you kept interrupting me like this.

Valor: yeah. yeah. I’m helping out this time too so... deal with it.

Eugene: Fine... *ahem* This is the story of how I died and went to heaven. *chuckles* Okay, so the Kingdom of Corona to be exact, but hey, let’s not get hung up on semantics. Once upon a time..

Valor: This again too. Come on that line is overused.

Eugene: Look if you’re helping. How about you tell this next part.

Valor: Sure! *ahem* As Eugene was saying. Once upon a time, a single drop of sunlight fell from... you know what. You all know the rest. So let’s get on with our stories!

Eugene: Valor!

Valor: What? It’s true.

Eugene: Okay since Wolfe here won’t take this seriously. I’ll just keep going. So yeah. You guys know the rest. So I’ll give you a very rapid fire short-hand here. The sun drop created a golden flower with healing powers, creepy old Mother Gothel sang a song to said flower to regain her youth. Yada, yada, yada— *look over at Valor*

Valor: *silent* .... What? Do you want my help? Or not?

Eugene: Uh no. Well, the queen got sick, flower healed queen, queen gave birth to Rapunzel, who was born with the flower’s magical healing powers, and everything was all flying lanterns and cheering subjects, until-

Valor:- until Gothel stoke the princess and kept her locked in a tower for 18 years. Then the princess was rescued by a lying thief who was blackmailed into helping. And a young adventurous werewolf to boot.

Eugene: Hey! I’m not just a thief. I am dashing, steely-eyed, smoldering, devilish handsome rouge.

Valor: Sure that too.

Eugene: now some people might have called him a thief, but I always preferred the therm “miss understood good guy.”

Valor: Really? You spent half a good day lying to us trying to get you precious satchel back *sassing*

Eugene: But, I did change. Besides it wasn’t easy for young Eugene. Raised as an orphan on rough streets of-

Rapunzel: Hey, Eugene. Focus?

Eugene: Huh? Oh, right. Sorry.

Valor: *chuckles*

Eugene: *glances at Valor before continues* So, the beautiful young maiden, that’s you, and the handsome rouge that’s me made a deal.

Valor: Your forgetting someone

Eugene: Sorry. And the Wolf Girl that’s you we all made a deal. Better?

Valor: *nods*

Eugene: We followed some lanterns, I save you from Gothel with Wolfe and you saved me saved me from.... death, and you got arguably the world’s most overly dramatic haircut. And then.

Rapunzel: And then, I was reunited with my long lost family.  But that is where our new story began. Six months had passed, and I was loving life inside the Kingdom of Corona, and my coronation to officially become princess had finally come.

Eugene: We all had a few surprises that day. Sunshine

Pascal: *Laughs*

Eugene: laugh it up, frog.

Valor: chameleon

Eugene: whatever

Rapunzel: I know what you all are thinking. Yes, Eugene and I did get married. But make no mistake, getting to the wedding day and our happily ever after would be the biggest adventure we would ever face.

Eugene: Oh that’s good

Chapter Text

The thunder of horses hooves racing over the field echoes as two young adults race by. Keeping up with them was an 8 foot tall black wolf with a lavender streak running through her fur. Her silver eyes glisten with excitement. As she raced along with them.

Rapunzel was in the lead followed by Eugene on Max and the wolf racing right next to both of them. Rapunzel glances back. “They’re gaining on us!” She shouts. “There’s more of them.”

Valor looks back as well watching as more guards race up. She whines as she looks back. This was the only thing she hated about this form. Being unable to talk with the others. Yet. Max sorts and she nods. “Good it will keep things interesting.” Eugene adds as he and Max take the lead.

“Man these guys are persistent.” Eugen comments. Valor growls. ‘You’re telling me.' Stretching her limbs trying to keep up the pace. She might not have the longest legs, but she had great stamina and could run for miles.

“Well, so am I.” Rapunzel replies back. “Meet you guys at the wall!” She shouts taking the high road. “Sounds like a challenge!” Eugene shouts back. “Think you two can keep up?” Rapunzel challenges them. Valor gives high pitch yip. ‘Not problem.' She smirks.

“I don’t know what you said Wolfe. But of course I agree. Though it’s not me or Wolfe you have to worry about.” Eugene points out as Rapunzel glances behind her. “Uh, oh.” The castle guards were right behind her now. “They’re your problem now!” Eugen states as they broke apart.

The smug look wiped from his face as he saw the guards following him they had split up. “Oh, great.Why did you saying anything!” Eugene shouts at Valor. Only to have her shoot her a sharp silvery look. “Oh, right. You can’t speak human in that form.” Valor twitches her ears. “Right focus.” Valor smiles. ‘At least you know the signals.' “Okay, Max, Wolfe, follow my lead-- oh, log, log, log!” Eugene shouts as a fallen limb blocks their way.

Valor pulls ahead. Leaping she easy scales it. Eugene was not far behind. But one of the guards did get thrown from his horse while the other scales with ease. “Oooh, good thing the ground broke his fall, huh Wolfe.” Valor yips in reply.

As for Rapunzel. She was out pacing the guard. Looking back briefly to see he was still keeping up. But once she looks ahead. “Huh? Whoa, bunny crossing!” She gasped. “Careful Fidella, watch out, out.” Fidella careful steps around all the bunnies. “Cute little bunnies.” Said the princess as they raced off.

As for the guard. Well he didn’t stop in time and as he and the horse skidded to a stop. Both rider and horse were covered in bunnies. Pascal swipes the carrot from one of the bunnies as they raced away.

As for Eugene and the others. They were doing just fine. The guard was on their heels. “Your not getting away this time!” He shouts only to have his horse rear up. Just as Rapunzel joins them. “Sorry.” ‘Nice save Rap?' Valor growls. “It was nothing.” Rapunzel said only guessing what her friend said. “Where almost there.” Rapunzel points out to them right as the Captain of the Guard appears behind them. “Oh, come on!” Eugene says. ‘Guys ahead. Look!' Valor growls.

Before the group a stream greeted them. Another log leading to the others side. “Good eyes, Wolfe.” Valor twitched her ears at him in thanks. “Let’s go!” Getting closet. Valor picks up sound of the water. Whining lightly she shuts her eyes. Allowing her body to keep moving and then jumping over it with Rapunzel and everyone else.

Right as her feet hit the ground. Her eyes flash open to see the guard landing in the water. Grinning she gives a light howl of laughter. “Looking good Cap.” Eugene complements. As they left the Captain in the water watching them escape.

Rapunzel soon reaches the wall. Pulling Fidella to a halt. They walk over to it. Valor trots up panting her tongue hanging out like a dog. Fidella gives Rapunzel a boost up. ‘Good job Fidella. You two are quite a team.' Valor compliment. Fidella whinnies happily.

Rapunzel stares out into the vast world. Valor scrambles up next to her. “Rap. I have to admit, you and that horse are quite formidable.” The 14 year old girl said. She has black hair with a purple streak. Stretching her slightly pale skin arms up.

“You think?” Valor nods walking over to her. As she tucks part dyed purple and black hair behind her ears. “Haha!” The two girls turn just in time to see Max and Eugene racing towards them. Suddenly stop, Max abruptly causing him to buck Eugene off him. Sending him flying through the air. Only for him to land right between the girls.

“Okay, okay. I know what you’re thinking.” Eugene said. “Uh. No.” Valor said with a cheeky grin. “We don’t.” The young werewolf points out. “Well. I know it looks you’ve won. But you have to take into account that my hair is now longer than yours.” He said flipping it. “So we got to factor in wind resistance.” Eugene said moving his hair about.

“You know if that was the case. I would be the winner not.. uh.. you.” Valor points out a sly look on her face. “Yeah. But you were in your other form. So.. yeah I guess that would make you overall winner.” Eugene admits. Valor beams proudly.

Rapunzel smiles watching her boyfriend and her friend interacting with each other. “Wow. Have you two seen anything so beautiful?” Rapunzel asked them. Valor looks over the vast world. It truly was a beautiful site to see.

Eugene looks over at Rapunzel and grabs her hand. “Yes. Yes, I have.” They turned around to kiss. Valor yelps. “Eww, gross!” She said with light laugher looking away. “You know Wolfe. You won’t always think that.” Eugene points out. Valor rolls her icy blue eyes. “The games over Your Highness! The Welcoming Ceremony is about to begin.” The Captain shouts up at them. Valor shouts back. “We hear you loud and clear!”

“I think we showed those guards who’s boss. Now what do you say we go make you an official princess?” Eugene asks. “Oh, is that today?” Rapunzel sarcastically ask.

Valor grins while watching the two of them tease each other. “Haha, very funny. Now come we better get you back to the castle. Ooh, maybe I can squeeze in a royal massage. Before my daily trim, of course.” Valor laughs.

He really has changed but yet hasn’t at the same time. “Hey! Rap? You coming?” Valor asked her standing near the edge. Rapunzel was looking out into the vast world out there? “I know Pascal. We’ll get out there soon.”

“Rap?” Valor tries again. Rapunzel walks past her. “Ha. Race you back to the Castle!” Valor leaps down shifting, let’s her paws thumb the ground as she lands. And they race off heading back home.

Chapter Text

They approach the castle’s entrance. With guards posted on each side.

This is life after

Happily ever after

Inside the town. Cassandra paces waiting for Rapunzel to return. All around the citizens where putting up decorations. Getting ready for the coronation of their no longer lost princess.

And it’s all just as sweet

As the stories say

Sound of hoof-steps made her turn to see Rapunzel and party walking back into the castle grounds. Quickly she runs over to them.

I feel wild, free

As light can be

And ready to explore

With nothing at all

Standing in my way

“There you are Raps. Come on.” Cassandra said grabbing Rapunzel’s hand dragging her off. Leaving Eugene watching. Max leans over kissing him on the cheek. Valor laughs. Eugene glares. Valor smirks and winks at him before running to catch up wit the others.

True, there are certain

Customs I have to follow

A few of the citizens curtsy as they saw Rapunzel, Cassandra and Valor as they walked by. “Curtsy.” Cassandra tells Rapunzel. Rapunzel as Curtsy back with a smile.

Several small obligations

I can’t avoid

A young girl hold up flowers to Rapunzel. “Aw those are so pretty.” Rapunzel tells her looking at them taking one of them. “Did you pick them yourself?” Valor asked her with her usual toothy smile. “Yep.” She said grinning. “Princes, Valor, the time. Come on.” Cassandra tells them.

As they entered the castle. They didn’t get far as Old Lady Crowley stops them. She then points to muddy feet and boot prints tracked through the room.

“Heh. Heh.. Whoops.” Valor said backing up grinning sheepishly. “Sorry.” Rapunzel as Cassandra pushes her to move. Rapunzel waves by to the grouchy woman.

Aside from all that

I’m over joyed

Soon the maids appeared help Rapunzel get ready. Valor moves about trying not to get in their way. “ This way, Princess. Valor hurry up.” Cassandra addresses them.

And sure there are corsets

And buckles and bows

The maids began circling Rapunzel was they walked. Valor weaves about trying not to get in the way. ‘I’m so glad I don’t live this life.' Valor thought watching them work.

Plus all those names

to recall

“Jane?” Rapunzel asked the lady brushing her hair. “Ethel.” She corrects her. “Right.” Rapunzel notes.

Still I can hardy complain,

I suppose this happily ever

After all

Cassandra turns around to see Rapunzel swamped by the maids. While Valor was trying to get around them. “That’s enough. I’ll take it from here.” Cassandra shooing then away.

“Thanks Cass.” Valor said. “No problem.” She said then began attending to Rapunzel. “How are you holding up?” Cassandra asked Rapunzel.

“Busy. But, busy is good.” Rapunzel admits. “I’m glad you think so, Raps, ‘cause this welcoming ceremony is just the beginning.” Cassandra begins to explain.

“Tomorrow is the festival, followed by the royal banquet, and that’s all before the actual coronation on Sunday.” Cassandra said as she fixed up Rapunzel’s clothes and hair. “Oh, come on, really?”

Rapunzel looks down at her bare feet. “I don’t see the problem with that?” Valor notes. “Honestly. I know Rapunzel asked you to be here. For her big weekend, but you could’ve at least made yourself look decent. Just look at you. Your worst then Raps.”

Valor looks her clothes over. Purple and pink goo like stuff on her brown vest and green shirt. Along with mud and dust. Though she couldn’t see her hair it was a mess as well.

Valor shrugs. “Cassandra. Just trust me. I know how important it is to my dad. Valor knows too.” Rapunzel touched his portrait.

“I do. But, Valor you’re not going looking like that.” Cassandra walks over to Valor with a hairbrush. Valor yelps in pain as Cassandra begins and tries brush out her tangles. “Ow, ow, ow.”

“Your also getting out of those filthy clothes too and should I even ask what’s stuck in your hair and clothes?” Valor chuckles then winces again, “better, not.”

While Cassandra tackle both getting Rapunzel and Valor ready. The Captain was the guard post for the event. “As you’ve requested, Your Majesty, we’ve doubled security on both the main gates and the south towers.” He explains with the diagram. “Good. We have guests from all over the world. I want them to know that they are safe. Everything for my little girl’s coronation weekend, must be absolutely perfect.”

The king opens to door to see all three girls in the room. Valor pulling on nicer pair of boots. Her crazy mess of her hair was straightened and wavy now  and reaches her mid-back with straight bangs over her eyes. And she was also wearing nicer clothes then what she had on earlier.

“Hi dad.” Rapunzel said as Cassandra and Valor both stand respectfully. As he enters the room.

King Fredrick

And now that at least

You are herein my arms

The King hugs his daughter. Valor smiles watching them. Little envious of them.

I won’t permit you to fall

I must protect you

From all the world’s harm

We’ll live happily ever after all

“Now as princess, you are not only representing your and the family, but all of Corona.” King Fredrick said closing the window.

“Don’t worry, dad. I won’t let you down. But while we’re on the whole princess, coronation thingy, I mean , all these royal activities are great, but do you think I might be able to catch a little downtime soon?” Rapunzel asked him.

“I know this is all new, but you’ll adjust.” The King said grabbing her hands. “After all, one of your friends seems to be getting on just fine.” The king mentions.

“Ooh-hoo-hoo, Helmnut, my man, this hat ties the whole outfit together.” He said tossing it. Valor pokes her head in. “Hey, guys. What’s up?” She asked walking in.

Eugene grabs her hand pulling her in. “Great timing Wolfe. I need your opinion.” He said happily. “My opinion?” She frowns in confusion looking at the others. “Why?” Eugen grins. “You might be wondering. Why is Eugene is such a good mood today? I mean, what gives?”

“Well, yes.”

Eugene:

Now that we’re

Living splendor

Our dreams fulfilled

Extendedly

Valor watches as Eugene went from one former ruffians to another. From helping Attila shave his helmet and giving Vladimir his unicorns.

Why leave things

Open-endedly

For Rapnuzel and me?

 

Tonight I’ll hand

This rose to her

Kneel down and

Then propose to her

And give this ring

I chose for her

Eugene kneels in front of Big Nose, Ulf and Valor. Opens up his ring box. Showing a Diamond ring. “Nice.” Whoa.” Valor and Big Nose said in shock. While Ulf faints.

Life’s going to be like

Strawberry sherbet.

Valor begins laughing as Eugene and Max began dancing. In a straight line. It was very amusing.

Once she is

Mrs. Eugene Fitzherbert

Valor and everyone looks at him oddly. “Okay, not great, but how about this.” Eugene offered.

Once she is princess Eugene Fitzherbert!

He sang toppling over the couch. While everyone watches him with blank looks. With Shorty on a rope. He then flies by with flowers following.

“And what better day to propose to a princess than at her coronation?” Eugene asked smiling as his arms wrapped Max’s and Valor’s necks.

This is life after

Happily ever after

 

And our story has

Finally reached its end

Eugene

Setting down here

Rapunzel

Year upon year

Eugene

Contented and secure

Rapunzel

With dozens of duties

We’ll have to tend

Both

And now that we’ve gotten

The dream that we chose

Now that we’ve in for the

Haul now our adventures

Rapunzel looks at the drawing she made. About her adventures.

Why does my world feel

Rapunzel walks to the mirror where her crown sat.

If it’s this it

And it is, I suppose

Rapunzel frowns lightly. Touching the crown.

Is this happily ever

After, after all?

Rapunzel sighs. “Okay, no pressure. Just interdicting myself to the most important people in the world. Representing my mom, dad, and the entire kingdom.” Sighing. “We got this.”

Chapter Text

A young boy was going around putting up flyers about the coronation. Then a rat appeared looking around before snatching a flyer and racing into the sewers.

The rat runs over to a woman sitting in a chair. The rat handed her the flyer. “Lady Caine, what is it?” Pocket asked her. “Time to pay our respects to our beloved royals.” Then she burns the flyer she held with a candle.

Rapunzel stood with her family and Cassandra. As the other royals began to arrive. Valor peeks through the crowd to watch the first carriage pulls up.

Looking over to Rapunzel. She looked ready to burst with excitement. “We’re good at making people feel welcome. This completely doable..ish.” Rapunzel looks over them. Eugene beans and waves pulling Valor next to him. Rapunzel waves back to them. Jumps pulling his hand down as the king gets Rapunzel to focus again.

Once the carriage stops."Your Highness I present Dame Elizabeth Van Hoskins of Rochester.” The old lady walks out only to tackled in Rapunzel’s bear hug. Valor winces hearing body snap under it. “Get in here.” Rapunzel hugs. The rest of the royals stood still with shock eyes.

“So, nice to meet you.” Rapunzel said fixing her hat. Making her look nice. Pascal squeaks shrugging. While the woman looks at it in shock. The king smiles and she walks off. While Rapunzel waves to. Queen Ariana gently pulls her back.

“Um, perhaps you should refrain from the Bear hugs, sweetheart.” The King Fredrick whispers to her. “Oh, no bear hugs. Gotcha. Sorry.” Valor smirks listening in.

Then the next carriage pulls up. “I present Lieutenant Commander General James Buherford-Carver the third.” Steps out in front of them. Valor stares at him. He differently showed in status well.

“Phew. That’s kind of a mouthful.” Rapunzel stares. “Is it ok if I call you Jimmy?” The princess asked. “I’d prefer you didn’t.” He said walking away. “Well, um.. Welcome all the same.” Rapunzel said cheerfully.

“I present the Duchess of Quintinia.” The man said. Rapunzel turns to see another woman in front of her. Rapunzel gaze traveled up. “Wow, can I just say, I love your hair. I use to have really long hair too but..” “This is a handwoven coiffure. Weft from the finest silk and Vacuna fabrics. It designates high social status. You think you’d know that.”

Valor crosses her arms. She did like this person. Yet Rapunzel just kept trying to act friendly. “Uh, still. Nice to meet you.” Rapunzel said. “Sadly not nice enough to wear shoes, I’m afraid.” She laughs. “Really.” She walks off fanning the paper fan.

Pascal glares at her as the queen puts a hand on Rapunzel’s shoulder. The princess steps back next to her parents. “Sorry.” Rapunzel whispers to them.

Valor sighed “was going to be a long weekend.” She mutters.

Valor lays out her clothes. They were covered with formulas for different experiments. She had helped with before leaving to Corona. Fishing through her satchel. “Okay, Goggles let’s see if this stuff works like you said.” Valor pops off the cork. Then pours the formula over her clothes.

Coughing she shakes off the extra purplish stuff off. Then smiles. Holding up her green shirt with zero stains well almost zero. All signs of the experiments were gone. 

“Not bad.”

Setting her clothes down. Then makes her way out of room. Quietly shutting the door. Valor looks about before running off.

Rapunzel sat in a boat. A single lantern glowed. Rapunzel stares at her reflection in the water. “So, I think we learned something very valuable today.” Rapunzel looks to see Eugene standing behind her.

He jumps into the boat to join her. “There’s a time and place for bear hugs.” Both lugged lightly. “Hey, you okay?” Eugene ask her. He climbs into the boat. “Yeah. Great. Why wouldn’t I be?” Rapunzel ask as Eugene looks unconvinced.

Sighing. “It’s just.. Eugene, is all this everything you dreamed it would be?” Rapunzel ask him. Eugene smiles grabbing her hand. “Rapunzel, you are my dream.”

Rapunzel smiles at him. “So as long as you’re with me, that answer is always going to be yes. Why? Don’t you feel the same way?” Eugene asked her. “No... Yes. Yes! I mean, of course I do! I love you with all my heart, Eugene.” Rapunzel says holding his hand and resting it against her cheek.

“Look, I know this has got be weird. No one’s expecting you to take it all in overnight. But believe me, I’ve been all around the world and it doesn’t get any better than this.” Eugene said gesturing to everything around them.

“This castle, our friends, your family, each other. What else could you possibly want?” Eugene ask her. Rapunzel smiles shaking her head. “Nothing.” Rapunzel tells him. They lean in to kiss when... “time to go!” Cassandra shouts. Eugene falls overboard.

Gripping the boat coughing. Cassandra smiles. “How’s that water-feeling, Fitzherbert?” Cassandra scoffs looking at him. “Dark and Icy. Just like you.” Eugene mocks while he glares at her.

Cassandra chuckles. “Come on, Rapunzel, it’s time to hear in. You don’t want to be exhausted for tomorrow.” Cassandra tells her. “Right! My morning off!” She said helping Eugene sit up. Pushing back his wet bangs and kisses his forehead. “Sorry!” Then the two walk off leaving Eugene in the boat. “Man she scares me.”

Valor pulls off the borrowed clothes. Pulling on her green shirt brown vest and black pants. Grabbing her satchel she made her way out.

Stretching her arms. Yet she could catch a few wary glances from people. Even if it’s been six months. No one was quite felt comfortable around her. Then sound of trumpets rang out. Turning around to see Rapunzel with her guards. Frowning she watches.

“Princess, Rapunzel, will spend her day about town!” Once he finished his announcement. Rapunzel was then squeezed between the guards. Valor watches as they walk by.

Quickly she hurried after them. One of the guards turned to face her. Pointing their weapon at her. “Whoa there. I’m Rapunzel’s friend.” Valor holds hands up surrendering. The guard lowers his weapon as she followed.

Rapunzel waves to the Butcher only when he waves back. A guard tackles him. Valor winces and frowns watching. As the day went by. Whatever fun Rapunzel experience was very limited.

Valor watches as her smile was more forceful. “You okay, Rap?” Valor whispers eyes the guards who watched her. “Never better.” Rapunzel fakes smiles. Valor sighs placing a hand on her shoulder. “Well, good luck Rap.” Waving her off.

“Let me guess. Big day on the town wasn’t all you hoped it I’d be?” Cassandra asked her. “It was.. sighing interesting.” Pascal puts a thumbs down. “Uh, huh, I bet.” “I just wish my dad would let me get out and see the real world.” Rapunzel tells her.

“You know, if you really wanted, I could get you in and out of here before anyone even knew we were gone.” Cassandra said. “Uh, you mean sneak me out?” Rapunzel asked slyly. “Exactly. What you do when one’s looking is your business.” Cassandra points out. Rapunzel smiles.

Then a knock on the door. As a woman called from the other side. “The royal banquet is ready to receive the princess now.” “Cheer up, Raps. Hey, maybe your dad got someone to chew your food for you.” Cassandra jokes.

Eugene was looking at the ring again. As he puts it away as food hits him in the face. Valor laughs. “I’m in charge of the seating charts.” Cassandra tells Eugene as she walks by smiling. “One of the perks of my job. Oh and Valor helped.” Eugene glares at Valor who just laughs as the kids kept playing about.

“I don’t understand why you are so upset sweetheart. I said you could do whatever you wanted. And that’s exactly what you did.” The King Fredrick said. “Hmm, you didn’t say anything about a battalion tagging along.” Rapunzel points out lightly.

“Why would I need to?” Her father asked her. “Your royalty. Making a public appearance.” He adds. “But, Dad..” “ahem.” Valor looks over to Eugene. As he got up. “What are you doing?” Valor hissed. Eugene smiles.

Valor groans covering her face. '‘Oh, he so going to make a fool of himself.'' Valor looks to see Cassandra was watching with interest.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, Dukes and Duchesses.” Eugene said walking over to Rapunzel. “Barons and Baroness, Marquis and, you know, the female version of those, may I share a moment of history with you.” Valor moves to stand next to Cassandra. “Any clue what he’s doing?” Cassandra whispers to Valor.

Valor frowns. “Not sure, but I think we are about to find out.” The two watch Eugene address Rapunzel. “Princess, will you join me up here?” He asked his girlfriend. Rapunzel gives him a smile then walks over.

Grabbing her hand he address everyone. “Tonight, we celebrate our love for the princess.” Rapunzel looks over at them. Valor shrugs while Cassandra looks with wide eyes and shrugs as well.

“I for one, can think of no better way to celebrate the love I have for this woman than this.” Eugene says getting to one knee. Valor stiffens. Her icy blue eyes stared in shock. ‘Of course he mention proposing on her coronation.' Valor noted.

As for her father his eyes were wide and in shock. Realizing what he was doing. His jaw slacks in shock. Following by Cassandra with Pascal on her shoulder did the same. “I can’t believe he’s really doing it.” Valor whispers.

“Wait you knew?” Cassandra said looking brief at her. “He mention he was going to do it, but this he must be crazy.” Valor wide blue eyes watched him.

“O, Eugene! Wait. Did you drop something?” Rapunzel ask him kneeling lower and looking about. “No.” He said then pulls out his box. Opening it exposes the ring. The king stands up while Rapunzel eyes spark at the sight of the ring.

“Rapunzel, from the moment I first met you, and you knocked me out with a frying pan, I knew it was love. You’re my light, you’re my best friend and I want to be your partner in all things.” Rapunzel was smiling listening to this.

Eugene continues. “I can’t wait to laugh with you and share with you. I see us raising our children here, and our children’s children, ad celebrating banquets of our own in this very hall for many, many, many’ many years to come. I want to ride our horses out to the Corona wall together each and every morning until we’re both very, very old and gray. I love you Rapunzel, and I want to spend the rest of our lives here together.” Eugene says as Rapunzel begins thinking. “Here? In this.. castle forever? Rapunzel ask him.

“I mean, unless you want to rent, but I hardly see how we’re doing to top this.” Eugene tells her.

Rapunzel looks from Eugene as his words set in. Then at her father as his words rang in her head. Was this what she really wanted. Looks about from them the guards. “Rapunzel? Rapunzel?” Eugene’s voice echoed. Then shakes her head. Sighing. “I’ve.. wow! I love you, Eugene, but... but I can’t! Just not, not now. Um, I need some air.” Rapunzel runs out.

Valor watches just as a hand grasp her. “Come on.” Cassandra tells her they hurried after Rapunzel.

Chapter Text

They had to cut the banquet short and now... “Oh, I feel horrible about Eugene.” Cassandra and Valor sat on Rapunzel’s bed listening. “I.. I do love him, and I want to marry him someday... but not like this!” Rapunzel groans. “Ugh!.. I need to get out and clear my head without a fleet of guards tailing me.”

“I can understand that.” Valor smirks. “Say no more.” Cassandra said. “We’re you getting out of here.” Both girl smiled widely and with Cassandra leading, they left her room.

Entering Cassandra room. She went to her closet. Opening Valor gulps looking at all her weapons. ‘Note to self. Never anger Cassandra.'

“Whoa!” Rapunzel said in shock seeing all the weapons. “Where’s the war?” She asked her best friend. “I’ve never seen so many weapons in one place how?” Valor asked her.

“Well, when your dad is the Captain of the guards, you tend to collect stuff.” Cassandra pulls out a hidden dagger. “Duly noted.” Rapunzel ends up dropping a spike ball on the ground. Quickly putting it back she grabs a cloak. Valor takes one as well.

Then they look over to see Cassandra was no longer wearing a dress but more of a solider attire. A sword attach on her back. “I have a feeling this is going to be fun.” Rapunzel pulls through hood up and smiles widely. Valor fastens the cloak around her. “Pascal, I need you to stay here and make sure no one knows I’m gone.” Rapunzel orders her friend.

Pascal squeaks in salutes. Valor smiles. “Good. We will be counting on you.” Valor adds. With that they hurried off.

Eugene made his way to Rapunzel’s room. Only to be stopped by guards. “The princess, lady in waiting and friend made it expressly clear..” “Huh? Lady in waiting..what? You mean Cassandra? First off calling Cassandra a “lady” anything, is being incredibly generous.  Secondly, come on, Stan.  It’s me, your buddy. Eugene. Eugene the fiend. You  Rapunzel would want to talk to me if you let me in.” Eugene tried you bribe the guard.

“I’m sorry Eugene, orders are orders. All right. Just doing your job. I respect that.” Eugene turns to leave but stops. “You sure there’s on way to let me in? Eugene begs him then points at his outfit. Stan smiles and lets them in.

“Rapunzel?” Eugene calls out. Pascal acts quickly. Setting up everything turning on the light outline a fake Rapunzel for Eugene to address.

“Ah, there you are, um.. look, Rapunzel, I’m sorry.” Eugene starts. “I’m so sorry. I should have put you on the spot like that.” Pascal was struggling to hold everything up.

“But, I want you to know, I mean it. I want to mary you, I love you.” Then a fly flew by Pascal. He begins moving trying to catch it. “It’s okay, you’re still upset, I understand. You’re not ready to say it back yet. Totally cool.” Eugene said leaning back.

“Oh man, that is a good pillow! What is that goose down? Some kind of down? Horse hair? Alpaca?” Eugene asked. Pascal squeaks putting fake hands on the dummy. “Sorry, look.. I know there’s still a ton of details we need to figure out.. and I may have jumped the gun a little. It’s just that.. growing up poor and alone.. I got use to having nothing.  But now with you, I finally have something you know? We have something. Something that’s amazing. And I guess tonight I was just trying to keep it that way. And I thought that’s what you wanted too.m, but I guess I was wrong.” Eugene rambles.

Pascal squeaks. “Oh, come on, say something.” Then her head fell off. Eugene jumps and screams in shock. Running over. Removed the barrier showing Pascal. Who turns pink.

“Fantastic. I just poured my heart out to a frog.  Okay, where did she go?” Pascal gives sheepishly look. “Pascal, you do realize that if the king finds out she’s gone, we’re all going to be in big trouble right?”

Outside the two guards kept taking. “I’m aware it’s not protocol, Pete, I just happen to think it highlights my mustache.” Stan said. “Hey, Stan great look! I mean it really brings out the stache!” Eugene day the hurried off.

“All right, you got us all down here, what’s the plan of yours?” The thug asked the servant. “Oh, it’s not my plan, boys. It’s Lady Caine’s plan.” Pocket says as whispers rang out. “Did he just say Lady Caine?” The thug asked.

“You see, 18 years ago the princess was taken from Corona, and it was because of her the king unfairly cracked down on all those he considered undesirable. Us.” He said. “Yeah, so?” The thug asked. “Gentlemen.” Picks up the apple. “Lady Caine is promising not only to make you all rich, but is offering you the opportunity to exact revenge on the king and his precious little princess.” Pocket tosses the apple. It smashed into the banner behind others.

“So, who’s in?” He asked them with an evil grin.

Chapter Text

While all that was going on. The girls where sneaking out of the castle. Cassandra was in the lead followed by Rapunzel then Valor.

Quietly Cassandra opens up a door. Holding up a lantern. The light illuminates a green glow. Valor shuts the door while Cassandra moves a box from the wall. Then pulls the banner back.

Rapunzel squeals seeing it. “Is that a secret passage?!” “Shh.” Valor hissed pressings her ginger to her lips. “Quiet.” She warns her as Rapnuzel runs to it.

The banner falls over Cassandra’s head. “It was.” Her voice muffled by the banner. “Before you announced it to the whole cast..tle.."Cassandra pulls the banner off.

“..Rapunzel?” Valor points into the tunnel. Cassandra groans. “Come on, we don’t want her blowing this Cass.” Valor goes in first letting her eyes swiftly adjust. Cassandra follows after her.

“Rapunzel?” Eugene calls walking through the halls. Pascal rode on his shoulder. He pokes his head into a room. “Rapunzel, are you in there?” He asked only to have the king clears his throat behind him.

Eugene turns to see Rapunzel’s dad walking up. “Is who in there, Eugene?” He asked as Eugene quickly closed the door. “Huh? Uh, no one. This just part of my nightly routine. You know? Yeah, checking the castle for intruders, keeping an eye on Rapunzel, like I promised.”

“Mm-hmm.”

“Hey, is anyone there?!” Eugene shouts into an empty room. As it echoes about. “No? Good!” Closing the door. “See? The system works, really well I think..”

“Eugene.. where is Rapunzel?” The king asked him. “Uh, Ah.. in her room of course.” Eugene tells him. “Good. I’d like to speak with her.” The king steps towards the room. “You can’t!” Eugene quickly said stepping in front of him.

“I mean, you can, obviously.. you can do whatever you want. You’re the king! A very large intimidating, beardy, *ahem* clearly understanding king. It’s just she’s still upset and, uh, she said she needed time alone. I was only trying to respect that.” He said blocking the king. “But, like I said you are the king.”

The king smiles at him. “A very sweet and nom-hostile king.” Eugene compliments him. “Well, maybe she does need some time to herself, *sigh* but when you see her please tell her that I am looking for her.”  The king begins to leave. “Sir, about the whole proposal earlier. That didn’t go quite as I had hoped.” Eugene admits. “We’ll discuss that later, son, much later.” The king tells him. “Right, we both have bigger fish to fry.” Eugene tells Pascal and hurried off.

As Rapunzel removes the small window like things from the side of the building and steps out. “That was so fun!” Rapunzel quietly exclaimed trying to hold back her excitement.

Valor slipped out next and let’s Cassandra put the guard thing back. “I’d like to take this opportunity to remind you that we’re supposed to be sneaking out. “ Cassandra tells her.  “She’s right. You could use practice.” Valor whispers.

“Guys, I think you’ll discover that I can be pretty sneaky when I need to.” Cassandra quickly tackles Rapunzel behind a building. Valor creeps over abc looking out. “Nightly patrols.” Valor points out. “We can get by then if we time it right.” Cassandra tells them. Valor gives a brisk nod.

“Wait, how did you guys, know they were coming?” Rapunzel asked them. Valor smirks. “I’ve been giving them the slip every night while I’m here.” Valor points out. “And I have eyes in the sky.” A hoot of an owl echoed.

Cassandra holds up her arm letting the owl land. “That is amazing! You have your own owl. What’s his name?” Rapunzel asked. “Owl.” She said with deadpanned face then he flew off. Cassandra gave clucking sound and Max pops up literally from behind a barrel.

Then he sneaks over to them. “Max!” Rapunzel cried happily. “Yeah, when he heard we were sneaking you out of here he instead he come along. And between the three of us,” Cassandra began leading Fidella off. “I think he’s got something for you know who."Cassandra teases walking by. Max snorts. Valor chuckles.

“Aw, come on Max. You know she’s just teasing you.” Valor chimes in. “Hmm. But still. It will be our little secret.” Rapunzel promised.

Soon they reach the edge of the dock. Valor gulps. “I’m- I’m not sure.” Rapunzel smiles at her. “Come on Val. If your scared you can sit on Max.” Valor huffed. “I am not, still..” she glances over at the white horse. Max nickers lightly. “Okay!”

Cassandra shoots an arrow over to the other side with rope. Climbing in. Valor hugs Max’s neck tightly. With Rapunzel in center they began to cross the water.

Back at the castle. The king stares at the Family portrait. And sighs."Oh honey, stop beating yourself up. Rapunzel just needs some space. Nobody said dealing with teenagers would be easy.” The queen told him.

“Teenager or not, Ariana, she will be queen one day. I have to prepare her for that.” The king tells her. As his mind went back to the night she was stolen. He got up and closed the window. “I just want to protect her.” He admits.

Chapter Text

As Cassandra rows the boat. Valor now sat between the horses her head down. Rapunzel on the other hand looked thrilled to be out. Soon the rowing  stops.

Seems like I’ve spent

My whole life hoping

Valor quickly runs ashore. Sighing and spins happily to be off the boat. “Come on guys!” She  shouts out. Rapunzel touched the forest floor next. Max walks up and snorts as Rapunzel hugs him.

Dreaming of things

I’ve never tried

Tangled in knots

Just waiting for my

time to shine

Then the group began to walk off. Valor shifts into a wolf and bounded ahead happily.

What if the doors

Began to open

What if the knots

Became untied

What if one day

Nothing stood in

My way.

Turning around to face them as the wind blew Rapunzel’s hair. Valor yips happily. Rapunzel closes her eyes and holds her arms out.

And the world was mine

Would it feel this fine?

Rapunzel and Cassandra mounted the horses and Valor yips as the group takes off running. Through the open field.

‘Cause I got

The wind in my hair

And a gleam in my eyes

On an endless horizon

Rapunzel holds up her dress as she walks through the pond. Fish swam around her feet.

I got a smile on my face

And I’m walking on air

As she  leans over the water. Rapunzel watches as fish swam through the water.

And everything

Life ought to be

It’s all gonna happen

To me out there

Then she  began running along with them. As the fish jump the stream. Rapunzel exits a cave.

With the wind in my hair

Rapunzel and Max began to trot through the overhang. She then leans over running her hand through the waterfall.

So many roads I’ve let to travel

The three began walking through the forest. “Come guys this way.” Valor calls to them. As they began walking down a dark path.

So many friends I haven’t meet

A bunny dashed by as a wolf leaps out looking at them. Cassandra draws her sword only to have Valor raise her arm out halting her. “Why are you..?” Happy yips from the wolf as Rapunzel rubs his belly. “Who’s a good boy.”

Valor laughs was she lowers her arm and walks over. “Come on, let’s get a move on.”

So many new adventures

around the bend

Leaving the wolf alone. They approach a pond. Fireflies flying about. The two girls grinned and ran to the edge. Cassandra opens the reeds eyes wide with wonder.

Plenty of mysteries

To unravel

Tons of mistakes

To not regret

Then Rapunzel opens it even bigger. Valor pokes her head around seeing the place illuminated frogs splashing into the water. “Amazing.” Cassandra said as they stepped back. “Raps?” “Guys look!” She squealed. They gathered about as she opens her hands releasing a firefly.

So much to see, and to do

And to be a whole life to spend

The girls laughed as fireflies surrounded them. “Race back to the horses!” Valor takes off. Fireflies flew after her. Looking to her left and right to see Rapunzel and Cassandra following with fireflies trailing behind them.

Quickly Rapunzel mounts Max abc takes off. Valor watches as the  fireflies kept in rhythm with Max. The trail of glow insects flowed like her once long golden hair.

And it doesn’t end

‘Cause I got the wind

In my hair and a song in

My heart and the fun is only starting

Rapunzel leaps into the wall. That shields Corona from the outside world.

I got a skip in my step

And I haven’t a care

And everything my life ought be

And looks out into the world waiting. “Ready?” Valor asked scrambling up next to her her icy blue eyes glowed like a pale bright blue flame in the darkness.

Well, I know that it’s

Waiting for me out there

Rapunzel looks back once. “Oh, I’m ready. Meet you on the other side Val!” Then tosses a rope down and swings down. Laughing with joy as she went.

And I’ll find it I swear

With the wind in my hair

Once everyone was over the wall try began walking once again. Valor walks between the horses. As they came to a crumbling bridge.

“Just remember, no one can never know we took you outside the walls of Corona.” Cassandra reminds her. “Don’t worry! No one is going to find out.” Rapunzel promised. Valor glances at Cassandra a bit worried.

As Rapunzel begins crossing. The bridge begins to crumble under them. Then it rumbled scaring Max. “Whoa, whoa Max. All right, this looks dangerous can you.. can you stay here and watch Fidela for me?” Rapunzel asked him.

Once Rapunzel was on the other side. She dismounts from Max. Valor pats his side. “Don’t worry I’ll keep them safe boy.” Max nickers and Valor grins. “Thanks.” Then quickly catches up with Cassandra and Rapunzel. Valor glances back and smiles at the animals.

Once across they followed Cassandra. Valor follows keeping a safe distance from the edge, yet she saw something black jutting out from the ledge.

“So, what did you want to show us?” Rapunzel asked. “Believe me, it’s better if you see it for yourself.” Valor looks down from the top. Her eyes widen at the glossy rocks spikes.

“They’re beautiful.” Rapunzel whispers. “What are they?” Valor asked creeping down from the top of the hill. Casting uncertainty glances. She’s never seen rocks like this before. Ever.

“Don’t know. They just kind of sprouted up here about a year ago.” Cassandra explains drawing her sword. “That explains why we’ve never seen them before.” Valor noted. The uncertainty vanishing with place curiosity.  “And watch this. Uh, you guys might want to stand back for this one.” Valor stiffen as Cassandra slashes the rock. Her sword breaks on impact. “Wow.” “Cool.”  Rapunzel and Valor said.

Sheathing her broken sword. “They’re unbreakable.” Cassandra tells them. “Want to know the weirdest part?” Cassandra asked. Valor nods with Rapunzel" What is it?” Valor asked cocking her head to one side. Cassandra motions Rapunzel forwards.

Cautiously the Princess approach the monument in the center. “This is where they found the miracle flower that saved your mom.” “And me.” Rapunzel adds. Valor shakes her head. “That’s Uh.. whoa.” Valor gasp as Rapunzel brushes off the dust. It began to glow. Casting long shadows around them.

Valor and Cassandra looks back at their own then turn around and watches as Rapunzel reaches out. The blue glow from the rocks grew brighter. And right as Rapunzel touched it. The rocks power burst. Knocking the group back. The pier rippled the water about and illuminated the area.

Groaning Valor sits up and rubs her head. The otters where getting up too. “Everyone okay?” Rapunzel gasp. Cassandra and Valor stare in shock. A golden lock of hair hung in Rapunzel’s eyes. “What the.."then a black rock appears. Right in front quickly followed by more. Getting closer. “Guys don’t just stand there run!” Valor shouts and they booked it.

“Wait? What is..” “Let’s get back to the horses as fast as we can and don’t look back, guys!” Cassandra informs them. They kept on running and ducking. Valor gasp as one appears inches from her eyes. Ducking to avoid it. She looks to Cassandra who was only a few inches from her.

Their little outing ends up with them running for their lives from Unbreakable Black Rocks. Valor skids down the hill. Cassandra’s shouts rang out. “Don’t stop you two, keep going! Cassandra kicks side of a tree causing it to crumble.

As Rapunzel and Valor ran. Rapunzel’s hair begins to glow lighting up the night. But not just glow but. Valor gasp slack jaw as her pixie cut few into  her old 70 something long hair.

“Um, Cassandra!” Valor and Rapunzel call. Valor jumps down her blue eyes wide. She was lost for words. ‘How did her hair just grow back?'  The Cassandra voice rang out. “Keep moving, guys. We need to get.. Whoa! Wha.. Wha-What?” Cassandra gasp looking at Rapunzel’s supper, super long hair.

As Cassandra joins them with a bewildered look. While both Rapunzel and Valor stood there holding the golden hair. “Wha-What happened?” Cassandra shouts out. “I have no idea.p” “But we might have to deal with it later guys.” Valor informs them. “Let’s go!” Rapunzel took Cassandra’s hand and everyone took off running.

Behind them the rocks where gaining fast. Just ahead was the crumbling bridge. Valor pulls ahead seeing Max.

Max noticed them running towards them. As he steps on the bridge it cracks under him then breaks. Max neighs and snorts in fear. Valor gasp as the bridge shifts under them. Causing everyone to fall. Cassandra and Valor took off again.

Rapunzel was yanked backwards. “Guys! My hair!” Both girls skidded to a stop. Looking back to see Rapunzel ranking her hair. It was stuck and the black glowing rocks began approaching fast. “Come on Cass.” The two raced over grabbing the hair.

Then one of the spikes hits the bridge breaking the other end. Valor glances up with wide eyes. Then it crashes back down. They stared over to the other side.

Yet the bridge kept moving and breaking. “Guys! Do something!” Rapunzel grunts. Valor wraps her arms around Rapunzel’s waist pulling her back. Cassandra races to the hair pulling out her broken sword then tossed it.

Valor grunts pulling back as they got closer to the edge. Rapunzel gasp in shock as she drew closer to the edge. “Cass!” Valor grunts pulling Rapunzel back. Cassandra jumps back over grabs Valor’s cloak.

Then Max whinnies and jumps pass them. The bridge began to crumble under him. Valor and Cassandra began to pull her back. It would be easier if the hair would budge.

The rocks where racing towards Max. Rearing up Max broke the golden hair free. Causing the girls to fall backwards. Valor sat up and scrambling back as the rocks fell around leaving Max on one side and Rapunzel and Cassandra on a pillar. “Max! Run!” Valor shouts to him.

Max looks behind and runs. The bridge giving away round him. Rapunzel and Cassandra gasp as their pillar moves. Valor paces watching. Max leaps, Rapunzel and Cassandra leap. Rapunzel manages to grab ahold of Max’s saddle. But Cassandra missed.

“Cassandra!” Rapunzel shouts out. Cassandra gasped and slipped. Quickly both Fidella and Valor grab Cassandra. And host her back up.

Valor sighs in relief. They made. They all were safe. “See? I told you We’d get you in and out. Without anyone knowing.” Cassandra said catching her breath. “Piece of cake.” Valor chuckles. “Piece of cake?” Rapunzel asked. “Uh, did you see the 70 feet of “my father is going to kill me” growing from my head?” Rapunzel panicking gripping her hair.

“One problem at a time please.” Cassandra begged. “Cass is right. Right now we need to get you back.” Valor points out. Rapunzel sighs. “Okay. Maybe it won’t be so bad.” She mounts Max while both Cassandra and Valor mount Fidella.

Chapter Text

As the group raced back to the castle. The run was rising casting early rays of late dawn around them. Rapunzel’s 70 foot long hair flowing behind her. Valor watches. But only turns back around as they got closer. As they entered and dismounted. Cassandra and Valor  pokes their heads around the corner. “We’ve got a problem.”  Valor whispers.

“It because of the coronation, they’ve doubled security at the gates today.” Cassandra adds.

“And there is no other way in?” Rapunzel asked.

“Sure, if you want to walk in the front door in broad daylight.” Cassandra points out. Valor and Rapunzel look about. “Hmm, maybe we don’t need the front door.” Valor and Cassandra followed the princess’s gaze upwards. “You got to be joking.” Cassandra said.

With a plan in motion. They broke apart. Max went right in through the front doors. Since he was a guard horse.

Max makes his way through the halls. He stops looking down the hall to where Pete, and Stan stood guard. Straighten he matches over to them. Max looks at them then snorts eyeing Stan who save him a smile. “I told him it wasn’t protocol, sir.” Pete said. Max snorts and motion them to leave. Saluting they matched off.

Max then pushed the door open. Right as Cassandra and Valor jump through the window.  Max grabs Rapunzel hair and pulls. Rapunzel appears. “Okay, quick, hand me the scissors.” Rapunzel gasps.

Cassandra walks over with them. “So, what do we wanna do here?” Cassandra asked holding them up. “Maybe a bob? How about some layers?” Cassandra asked. “Cass.” “Just cut it!” Rapunzel demands.

Cassandra lifts up a strand and snips it. But the scissors broke and shattered. Valor gulps. “Uh-oh.” Valor said join by Max looking at the broken scissors. “Uh-oh? Why uh-oh?” Rapunzel asked. “There shouldn’t be any uh-ohs.” Rapunzel turns as the pair of broken scissors. “Uh-oh.” Rapunzel stares with wide eyes.

“Was your hair always this strong?” Cassandra asked. “What? No! Try again.” Rapunzel begs. Valor nods this time she grabs her dagger. And tries to cut it. But pulls away showing a bent dagger. Frowning looking at it. “We’re gonna need a plan B.”

Soon they had the hair neatly around them. Rest of it rested on a table they had set up. Rapunzel on one end.

Cassandra then opens a hidden pouch on Max’s saddle. And a row of weapons fell neatly down. “Awesome!” Valor snatches one of them. While Cassandra takes the throwing axe. “Okay, close your eyes.” Cassandra orders Rapunzel.

Then the testing started. Cassandra and Valor routed. Striking weapon after weapon. They watched as one after another broke and shattered. Lastly both girls lifted up a large axe. Dropping down breaking the table and leaving the hair intact.

“For get it. It just like those stupid rocks. It’s unbreakable.” Cassandra said giving up. “We can’t forget it! Today is my coronation.” Knocking on the door. Made all eyes turn to it.

“Hey, sunshine, are you there?” Eugene asked. Rapunzel walks to the door only to be stopped by Cassandra. “You can’t let Eugene see you. What why?” Rapunzel asked.

“He can’t know anything about last night. I told you Rapunzel. If it gets out, we took you outside Corona, I’m done for, Valor is done for.” Cassandra explains. “But, I trust Eugene.” “But I don’t. My dad will have me taken off Princess detail and Val could get thrown out.”

Valor snorts. “Like I care. Look let’s do something. He won’t stand there waiting for ever.” Valor gestures to the door. “Oh come on, we’ve been looking for you all night.” He called in.

Rapunzel looks from the door to the others. “It’s your choice Rap.” Valor adds. Rapunzel nods agreeing with Cass. Cassandra smiles running to the door. “Hey, are you okay?” He asked.

Rapunzel tried to run, but screams as he hair is jerked. Valor chuckles then helps Rapunzel untangling her hair. While Cass ran about shoving hair into anything to hide it.  Valor and Rapunzel ran about helping them. Max pulls a rug over it. “Rapunzel! Stand back!” Eugene shouts from outside the door.

The door is kicked in. Everyone froze. “Are you ok- Holy hair!” Eugene screams. While everyone stood holding hair in their arms. Eugene looks around the room. Every inch was covered in hair. Rapunzel starts laughing nervously. “Surprise.”

Rapunzel helps Eugene sit down. “Whoa! Oooh, mamma! Ha! Okay! Okay! This new, I mean, no! Not new.” Valor walks pass them caring hair. “Right? Because we’ve seen this obviously. That whole magic thing is involved again. It was magic right? Actually, you know what? You don’t need to tell me. I’m just going to go ahead and say your hair magically grew back. I’m not going ask how. Obviously you don’t want to tell me  or else you wouldn’t have to try to hide it from me.” Valor frowns. He really was losing it bad. Pacing sitting and pacing again.

“So I won’t ask how it grew back, but tell me please, how did it grow back?” Eugene asked looking her in the eyes before ranting again. “Maybe I should make an elixir to stop rants.” Valor mutters. Yet watching Eugene go back and forth wanting and not wanting to know was a headache.

Valor went back to work helping Cassandra picking up the hair. And doing her best to ignore Eugene. “Where is the war? That you’ll share when you are ready.” Valor sighed as he finally shut up. Yet the look he had was telling her he really wanted to know.

“Thank you for understanding.” Rapunzel tucks strands of her hair back. “Oh come on, really?!” He shouted. “I thought we trusted each other, Rapunzel!” He sounded hurt.

“We do! I do, it’s just...'''‘fine, fine, fine. You know what? I can’t make you tell me what happened, but obviously you’re keeping something from me. But whatever it is, I just want to know you should never feel like you have to hide anything from me.” Rapunzel smiles and moves bits of her bangs.

Max watches with a smile. Then looks up to see Pascal looking back at him with a smile. Cassandra and Valor glances at before they continue. “You don’t hide things from the people you love. Ever.” Eugene points out.

Then a new voice broke in. “Rapunzel, honey!” Queen Ariana calls from outside. “Hide your hair, woman. You got to hide your hair!” Eugene explains as Pascal quickly shuts the door as it was began to open.

Chapter Text

Outside the queens voice came. “Rapunzel? Can I come in, sweetheart?” She asked. Quickly Max helped Pascal hold the door closed. “You can’t!” Rapunzel shouts quickly. “I’m.. brushing my teeth!” Rapunzel mumbles like she had something in her mouth. Eugene, Cass and Valor where picking up her hair.

“Oh, good. But I still can come in, can I?” Ariana asked her daughter. “Oh, believe me mom, you do not want to. Morning breath.” Rapunzel tried to convince her. “Wouldn’t want to expose you to that.” Valor glances at Rapunzel. Rapunzel gives a smile and thumb up. While they shook their heads ‘no’. “That’s Ah, very thoughtful of you. Your, dad and I want you to join us on the terrace for breakfast.” Ariana tells her.

Valor and the others look from one another. While Rapunzel replies back. “Um, I don’t know. There is a lot of stuff I have to do to get ready.” Rapunzel tells her. Casting her eyes towards her hair. “Rapunzel, well, your father has something very important to share with you. He’s.. he’s been waiting all night.” The queen explains.

“Yeah, sure, um.. *sigh* I will meet you there in a minute?” Rapunzel tells her. Then her mother was gone. “The coronation is in two hours! How am I suppose to cut this hair!” Rapunzel asked still panicking. Valor shrugs she had no clue. But Cassandra smiles. “I might have an idea.” All eyes on Cassandra as she explains her idea to them.

Once done. Rapunzel joins her parents for breakfast. “So, Rapunzel, ready for the big day?” Her mother asked her. “You bet! Already into the princess spirit!” They managed to stuff all her hair into a wig on her head. “The bigger the wig, the better the princess, right?” She asked trying to keep it on her head. It flops as she was taking.

“So then, Dad, Mom said you wanted to talk.” Rapunzel addresses him. “Yes.. Rapunzel, last night, your mother and I had a discussion.” He sighs. Then standing up he walks. “I know that I’m not always able to separate the man from the king and separate the father from the king has even proven more difficult.”

He sighs again. “Sweetheart, I know this new life is hard to get used to, and I am sure that sometimes you wish I would get out of your hair.” Rapunzel begins coughing. “Ooh, sorry. It’s a little, um, dry out here. Anyone else dry?” Fredrick walks over to her and kneels.

“Rapunzel, you are going to be queen someday.” Her father began explaining to her why he did what did. How it was his job to protect his Kingdom and her. How one day it will be her job. “Do you understand?” He asked her.

“It wasn’t until last night that I realized that my methods may have at times seemed strict or unfair or..” “does this mean I can have more time to myself? Without having half the royal guard over my shoulder?” Rapunzel asked him. “Well, this means I’m willing to reconsider those methods. But I make no promises.” He tells her.

“I can work with that.” Rapunzel said kissing her dad’s check. “Well I should go. I have a lot of princessing up to do.” Rapunzel tells them as she leaves.

Eugene pokes his head into Rapunzel’s room. “How are ya?” Cassandra sat in her lady in waiting attire sewing the coronation dress. Then walks in. And begins to whistle walking past. He tried to prune the flowers. But he cracks under pressure.

“Oh, come on!” He turns around facing Cassandra. “What is going on with Rapunzel? I mean, is it something I did?” Eugene asked her. “Probably.” She replies. “And since when did she start keeping secrets from me?” Eugene asked her. “Hey, Fitzherbert, I need to get this done before the coronation, so do you mind throwing your putty party someplace else?” Cassandra remarks back to him.

“Look, Cass..andra.” Eugene said exaggerating her name. “I know you don’t like me for Rapunzel..” “..oh, that’s not true.” She begins to sass back. “I don’t like you for anyone.” She adds with a smile on her face.

Eugene stands with his arms crossed. “I just want what’s best for her.” He agreed back. “Oh, you don’t say.” Cassandra said with her sarcastic tone. “Of course! I want her to feel safe. I want her to be taken care of and I want her to be happy here.” Eugene tries to explains.

Cassandra began to walk out. “Funny, you seem to have a pretty good handle on the things you want.” With that she opens and closes the door. Eugene sits down and looks over at Pascal. “Oh don’t you start.” Eugene adds.

Rapunzel sat on her bed. Trying to keep the wig on straight. The 70 foot hair was making it hard to do so. A knock on the door as her mother walks in. “Hi, honey.” Ariana said with a smile. “Oh, hi mom.” Rapunzel greets her as the queen shuts the door. A box was in her hands. “You left so quickly after breakfast I.. I didn’t have a chance to give this to you.”

Ariana walks over and sits down. “I know it’s a little early for a coronation gift but.. I thought you might want to see it now.” She hands the box to her daughter. Rapunzel opens it revealing old diaries.

Grabbing one of them she flips it open and reads. “18th of July.. We embarked on a safari to the most remote plains of the third continent.” Rapunzel turns the page. “21st of May.. Had to take shelter in a hidden cave to escape the fury of a violent storm. 12th of April.. helped villagers rebuild their war torn homes.” Rapunzel lowers the book. “Mom, is this yours? Did you actually do this?” She asked the queen.

“Rapunzel, before I met your father, I was so much like you.” She began. “I had no idea what I was supposed to have in this world. So I went out and found my own way.” Ariana hands Rapunzel another book.

Rapunzel opens it. It was black as she flips through it. “You’re father is right about one thing, you will be queen someday,but only you get to decide what kind of queen you’ll be. And on one can tell you the best way to make that decision.” The queen tells her.

“But how can I if.. Wait.. are you suggesting that I should...” “Honey.. find a way to fill those pages.” The queen tells her. “I only ask that you be safe, be smart, above all.. be true to yourself.” Rapnuzel smiles and turns the next page to read words written on the back of the cover. “Plus est en vous?” Rapunzel reads. “Plus est en vous. It means.. There is more in you."Her mother explains. They hugged each other.

The trumpet sounds as the time for the coronation was beginning. The king and queen stood in front of their thrones with a priest between them.

Back with Rapunzel. Cassandra was redoing her wig. With Valor helping out. “This would be a lot easier with the other girls helping.” Cassandra said. “But they’re such gossips, half the kingdom would know about your hair by now.” Valor adds. As they tried to steady the wig.

“Are you sure you can’t see it?” Cassandra pulls up the collar. “Positive.” Valor adds. “You sure you can pull this off?” Cassandra asked her.

Rapunzel opens the door to look out. “I have to, guys.” Rapunzel declares. “Just be careful you don’t trip on this.” Cassandra warns her. “It’s not the dress I’m worried about.” She pulls up the dress showing the shoes. “How do people walk in these things?” Valor chuckles. “It takes a lot of work.”

Cassandra sighs. “Just relax. This going to be fine."Rapunzel smiles lookin

Chapter Text

Rapunzel takes a breath and the. let it out. “Okay.” She said and Cassandra nods and the guards open the door. Eugene turns to see Rapunzel at the door. “Wow.” He said seeing his girlfriend. Rapunzel tried to walk with pride but began tripping over the heels she wore. As she walks, Rapunzel’s wig waves.

The princess tried to keep it still. “How embarrassing for her.” The Duchess of Quintinia comments to Eugene. “This is going to take forever.” The Duchess complained. Then leaves the room.

Rapunzel comes to stand before her parents. “The wearer of this crown is a shining example of the promise that is Corona, an ambassador of goodwill to those visiting from afar and an inspiration to those fortunate enough to live within her borders.” Rapunzel turns to face everyone.

Eugene gives a thumbs up to her. As the coronation went on. Cassandra and Valor began to walk in with a Pascal on Cassandra’s shoulder. He looks back to see a strange looking guard step in.

“But above all, the chief responsibility of the crown is to keep the people of Corona safe..” the guard puts the axe through the door.  Pascal squeaks pointing behind. Both girls glance behind them. “..from danger, near and far. There are many.”

Another strange guard appears. Valor frowns, but only catches a brief glance of them. “This mandate is not to be taken lightly.” “Go find Max.” Cassandra tells Pascal. Pascal squeaks and runs off as they join the others.

“There will come a day when the walls that surround Corona.” Cassandra motions to Eugene look over to the exit. “Are threatened by malfeasance.” Looks worried swing the stranger.

“A day..” “ATTENTION, PLEASE!” A voice doomed halting the coronation. Everyone turns to see... “Lady Caine?” Eugene gasp in shock. As Lady Caine  standing there with her band of thugs coming in. As they raced in everyone began screaming and running. Only people not freaking out was Rapunzel’s friends and king and queen.

Quickly Lady Caine’s thugs rounded up the guest. The king steps forward addressing Lady Caine. “Release my guest immediately!” He demands. “What’s the matter, Fred.” Lady Caine snarks back at him. “Am I ruining your little girl’s perfect day?” She asked him.

“The duchess?” Rapunzel said in shock. “Oh, honey, I am no duchess..” Lady Caine said hand on the hip. “I don’t understand.” “Of course you don’t, Rapunzel. But try to follow along. This is all your fault.”  She whispers.

“What!?”

“You see, after your untimely disappearance. Your father locked up every criminal in the kingdom, including a simple petty thief. My father...” Lady Caine explains. “I saw him thrown into a cage and hauled off like some animals, never to be seen again.” *sigh* “So, I thought I’d come back and return the favor.” She points her sword at them.

Then a horse and jail carriage pulls up. “Load them up boys!” Lady Caine orders her men. The guest began walking into the carriage. “Your turn, Your Majesty.” She taunts.

The king didn’t move but had Rapunzel and his wife step back. “Oh come now, you didn’t think we’d leave our prized big in the pen, did you?” Lady Caine asked him. They grabbed him escorting him to the cage. “Dad?” Rapunzel shouts. “Rapunzel, stay back.” He tells her.

“But..”

“..No. There’s nothing you can do. As your father and your king, I command you to stay put.” The door was then shut in his face.

Eugene takes a step forwards but a sword pointed at him. “Don’t be a hero, pretty boy.” One of thugs tell him. Valor clenched her fist looks about. Then catches both Eugene, and Cassandra looks over at Rapunzel.

Rapunzel sighs. And the breaths. “Sorry, dad..”  Rapunzel kicks off her shoes and removes the wig. “Rapunzel!” He shouts as she let’s down her 70 foot hair.

“That’s my girl.” Eugene whispers proudly. “Let them go!” Rapunzel demands. As she approaches them. Chuckling. “It’s amazing what you can hide under those wigs, isn’t princess.”  She grabs the side of the cage. “Come on, let’s move out!” Lady Caine orders.

Rapunzel tosses her hair. Wrapping it around the handle. Then pulls hard. Yanking the door off. Causing them to stop. “Ugh, now you’re just making me angry.” Lady Caine said. “Good, because I’m just getting started.”

Everyone began exiting the cage. “Get those people back here, now!” Lady Caine orders her men. Rapunzel runs over. “Rapunzel, your hair!” He said in shock. “I know, we’ll talk about it later. Please get somewhere safe and take care of my mom.” Rapunzel begged him.

Rapunzel races off. “That’s my cue...” Eugene slams the helmet of the thugs together. He grabs the sword. “Well my last day on princess duty.” Cassandra grabs a candle stick. And spun it around. “Might as well go down fighting.”

As a group advances on a group of guests. Valor leaps shifting into a wolf. Placing herself between the thugs and guest. She pining her ears and growls baring her teeth.

Just Rapunzel tosses her hair snagging the axe. From one of them. “Leave them alone!” She orders. They scatters. Rapunzel grabs one of them. Valor turns back to a young human girl. Turning to their guest. “Get over there!” She orders them. They are in shock but than ran off.

The king and queen along with a few of the guest stared in shock. Neither of them knew this about the young girl. Yet the king was more scared for his daughter.

As one of the tugs approaches her. Valor quickly rounds on him. With a sharp sidekick she sent the guy flying back. Eugene and Cassandra stood back to back. “So, you sure you can handle yourself?” Eugene asked her. “Oh I’ll manage.”

Valor snags a sword and runs over to help. Eugene who was double teamed. He jumps avoiding them. “Hey need a hand?” Letting her sword clash with one of them then with another sharp kick to the gut sending them flying. Eugene knocks the other one out.

Jumping down. “Heads up!” Valor and Eugene duck as the man flew over them. “Nice job!” Valor shouts to Cassandra. Gasping. “Rapunzel! Look!” Valor shouts to the princess.

Rapunzel turns around to see two tugs advances on two of the guests. Tosses her hair up wrapping it around a pillar. Then jumps up wrapping her hair around them. Jumping down she pulls them up.

Lady Caine walks up to Cassandra who points her weapon at the thief. “Aw.. cute.” They fought but, Lady Caine disarms Cassandra. They square off again.

A gasp from Rapunzel as one of them grabs her hair. Quickly  she tosses her hair. As it wraps around a frying pan. Then a sharp yank as she pulls it free. It came flying back knocking him out.

Eugene and Valor where soon surrounded. Valor growls as they got back up into a corner. Both had their swords knocked away. “Uh, Wolfe. Maybe now would be a good time to you know.. change.. er.. whatever you do.” Eugene said.

Just then a blonde blur flew pass them. And next thing they knew Eugene was holding a frying pan. “Thanks blondie.” He said Valor smirks. Then let’s herself change into the large black wolf once again. Lowering her head growls at the thugs who froze and stiffen with fear. She swipes at causing them to back up.

Eugene grinning. “Wolfe duck.” Then tosses the frying in a circle knocking them out.  Valor laughs shifting back to her human size, “all right!” She cheers as Eugene picks it back up. “Ha! Now that feels good!”

Quickly Cassandra got the upper hand. Using the candle mount she pins Lady Caine down. As both Rapunzel and Valor approaches her. “Stay down.” Cassandra orders her.

“You have no idea who you are dealing with.” Lady Caine threatens Rapunzel. “Believe me, we’ve dealt with much worse.” Rapunzel tells her. “You’re the one who has no idea who they’re dealing with.” Valor adds her icy colored eyes turning silver as she stares Lady Caine. Quickly Lady Caine pulls free and backflips to the door. She grabs the axe. “You think this is over? Ha! I promise you, I’ll be back!”

*THUD*

Just then as she removes the axe the door falls on top of her. And Max stood there with Pascal and the guards.

“Oh, *tsking* Lady Caine. It’s impolite to leave in the middle of a party.”

“You think you’d know that.”

“How rude.”

Rapunzel walks over to Max and Pascal. Then cheers and applause rang out. As the guards escort Lady Caine away. Rapunzel and party smile. Valor gives a shy smile unsure if this would be a good thing. Yet the heroes welcome the praises.

Soon everyone began to leave. “Nice to see ya. Thanks for coming. Nice suit, buddy. Happy Coronation Day folks.”

The queen runs over to Rapunzel hugging her. Rapunzel looks over at her father. Who stood off and away. Valor helps put the broken door back on. As the carriage rolled off. Valor turns frowning as she looks over at Rapunzel and her family.

Valor laid on the bed wide awake. She had offered to take up part of the blame but, Rapunzel told her not to both and she’ll handle it.

The whole weekend hadn’t gone as anyone expected. She was hoping it would be boring and yet she got the opposite. She had fun and got to enjoy life.

“I wonder how Rapunzel’s talk with her father has gone?”

Rapunzel sat in her room. The talk with her father ended up poorly. He had banned her from leaving without his permission. Now she was in her room moping and upset with Pascal.

Knocking on the door made her look up. “Come in.” Eugene enters the room. “I believe somebody ordered room service?” He enters with a cupcake.

“Eugene, how did you know?” Rapunzel asked him. “Ah, I had a feeling.” He said. “Look, I want to clear some stuff up.” He walks over and sits down handing the cupcake to Rapunzel.

“I haven’t had the chance to apologize for putting you on the spot with that proposal.”

“Well looking back, storming out of the room probably was the best reaction.” Rapunzel admits. Sighing. “So I’m sorry.” She apologizes.

“No, don’t apologize. Look I’ll admit, I don’t quite understand why you said “no”. But I promise to do everything I can until I do.” Eugene tells her. “Thanks Eugene.” Rapunzel said. “In the meantime. We’ll stay right here and take things slowly. I miss this.” He say touching her hair. “Hey, promise me one more thing.” Rapunzel said.

“Anything.”

“That you will be patient with me.”

“Absolutely.”

They kissed briefly. “Good night Rapunzel.” Eugene said.  “Good night Eugene.” Eugene got up and left, closing the door.

Happily ever after

Rapunzel opens the window leading outside.

Stuck inside once again

And I’m gazing out

True I’m in here with

Those I hold dear

Surrounded by their love

And for some that’s

More than enough

No doubt

Sitting she looks out the window. Then the wind began to blow her hair. Looking she watches the pages turn back to what was written on the back cover.  And smiles.

Then jumps out onto the balcony.

But I got the wind in my hair

And a fire within

‘Cause there’s something beginning

I got a mystery to solve

And excitement to spare

The rest of her began flowing in the wind now as she stood outside.

That beautiful breeze blowing through

I’m ready to follow it who knows where

And I’ll get there I swear

With wind in my hair!

 

Chapter Text

It was very early in the morning. As Valor quickly got herself dressed and gathered up her things. Ever since the coronation things well, things have been different.

Cassandra and Rapunzel had begged her to extend her stay. And she had caved in. Now she was getting ready to leave. Closing the door behind her and *sighing.* “Okay let’s go find everyone.” Adjusting her satchel and then sets off.

Rapunzel was sitting outside with Pascal on the terrace. As Cassandra walks over. “I was thinking about your hair.  Maybe there is a way we can discreetly try to get some answers, just the two of us?” Cassandra said as she sat down next to Rapunzel. “Just two of you really?” They looked up to see the black haired teen walking over. “Last time I checked all of us are in this together.” Valor came to a stop in front of girls and Pascal.

“Hey, Val? What’s up with your bag?” Rapunzel asked her. “Well I’m leaving, but what’s this about having a way to get answers? I’m kind of curious now.” Valor leans on the rails smiling wolffish like.

“I was just about to explain it before you showed up Valor.” Cassandra tells her. “Well? What is it?” Valor questions. “Well I might know someone who can help.” Cassandra begins to explain. “But, I think you’re still being unfair about Eugene.” Rapunzel adds.

“I agree with Rap. He might not be able to keep secrets very well, but he very trustworthy now. I should know. I did travel with him once.” Valor jumps in defending him. “Thanks Val, but I am curious who this friend of your is Cass.” Rapunzel adds with a smile.

“His name is Varian, and he’s some kind of wizard.” Cassandra said with a mysterious tone. Rapunzel gasp. “Wow! A real wizard? Do you think he’ll have one of those pointy hats, a robe and a staff and cast spells.” Valor couldn’t hold back her laughter.

Everyone looks over at her as she breaks out laughing. “You-You, think, he-he’s a wiz-oh.. *laughing* ..oh, m-man. That’s- That’s so, comical.” Valor laughs. Before letting out a long sigh as she catches her breath.

“Listen guys. He’s no wizard. He doesn’t cast spells, he doesn’t wear a robe nor owns a pointy hat.” Valor adds crossing her arms and smiles.

“How would you know that? Have you meet him? Because there rumors say he’s dangerous.” Cassandra asked her. Valor grins. “Well.. So am I... I am a werewolf after all.” She light-heartedly joked showing her unusual sharp canine teeth.

“Look, how about you meet him yourself, and see. And.. since I am heading that way I’ll tag along. What do you say Rapunzel?” Valor offers them.

“Well if we want answers, he’s our best bet. Right?” Rapunzel asked. Cassandra nods. “All right road trip!” Valor yelps happily, and jumps with a fist in the air. “Shh.” Cassandra reminds her. “Sorry.” She apologizes with a sheepishly with a smile.

While the girls and Pascal embarked on their mission. To see Varian. Eugene and Max had visited the Snuggle Duckling. Right now Big Nose was reading his poem he wrote.

“We keep no secrets, me and you, our love stays fresh like the morning... dew.” He read. Max looks out the window bored out of his mind. As Big Nose began to explain the poem. Max then noticed something. Grabbing Eugene bringing him to the window.

Just was Cassandra and Rapunzel walks by on Fidella while Valor walks next to them. “Ha-ha! I gotta go. This has been great.” Opening the door, Max walks out first. “You keep within those words down, ‘cause one of these days.. you’ll have more of ‘em. Okay. Bye everybody.” With that Eugene shouts the door.

Shorty wakes up. “Good morning! Hey, Big Nose, what’s goin’ on with that lady that you have?” He asked him.

Big Nose clears his throat and flips his note pad back to the beginning. While the others groan in irritation.

As they reached Old Corona. They began to towards Varian’s house. “So, this is where Varian lives.” Valor tells them. As they approached his home. “It seems cozy, in a I-wish-I-had-said-goodbye-to-my-loved-ones-before-I-left kind of way.” Rapunzel said. Valor chuckles. “Come on. He’s not that scary.” Valor exclaims lightly before Cassandra could knock the place shook and the door open on there own.

Rapunzel and Cassandra exchange glances. Then walked in. “Guys you might want to watch your step. Follow me.” Valor in forms them. As they approached the door with purple smoke coming from it. Cassandra opens it as they walk in. “It’s just fog. I’m sure it’s okay.” Then there was a creaking sound as... “Cass wait!” Valor shouts as sound of a trip wire being sprung echoed.

Next thing they knew a pink ball of something explodes around them leaving everyone coughing. “Really.” Valor grumbles with irritation. Though the trip wire trap was her idea. “Fine.. A booby trap!” Rapunzel said as they tugged their feet.

Valor growls lowly. Last time she ever got

stuck in this, it took all day for them to find a reversal formula. “Raps, everything’s gonna be-oh!” Then  both Cassandra gasped as someone stood looking at them with glowing eyes. “WHAT DO YOU WANT?!!” His voice was distorted and loud as he spoke.

Valor watches tapping her fingers to her arms. While Rapunzel tried to act brave in front of him. “Um... hi. So sorry to bother you sir.” Valor snickers in amusement. “Sssir?” She laughs.

Cassandra looks at her then at the person I’m in front of them.

“I.. wanted to ask you about my hair. Because you’re such a magic exp..” Valor laughs as his voice booms. “...MAGIC? I DON’T WORK WITH MAGIC.” He tells them. But pulls back the mask he wore. Revealing a scrawny, fair skinned, freckled 14 year old boy. With black hair and a blue streak in his bangs and light blue eyes.

“I mean, technically it’s not magic. It’s alchemy, but... yeah.. don’t.. don’t sweat it.” He said. Rapunzel laughs “got it.” She said. “So, what is this?” Rapunzel asked. “Oh, it’s.. it’s a chemical compound of my own design. Thank you.” Varian begins removing his coat and the mask. “And the trap was Laver’s work.” Cassandra glares as Valor grins sheepishly back.

“See, we have a bit of a critter problem out here, and through the miracle of modern alchemy.” Varian begins explaining as they look over to a raccoon who was freeing him from the chemical compound.

“We’ve found a humane way to solve the problem.” He explains as he throws the raccoon out of the room and outside. “This riveting, but could you get us out of here?” Cassandra asked. “Ha!” Varian began padding himself down. “Where is that neutralizing parti.. oh c-come.. get out of here!” He said to the raccoon by his tail throwing him back out. Then he shuts the and walks over.

“I see he’s still a pain.” Valor adds. “Yeah. Third time this week he set off the trap.” Varian explains. “Whoa.. must be trying to set a record.” Valor chuckles earning a grin from Varian. “So, why are back so late? You said you’ll be gone just for the weekend.” He asked her. “Well, it kind of has something to do with the reason the princess is here.” Valor explains to him gesturing to the others.

“Look you two can catch up later. Right now can you free us like you said.” Cassandra intrudes glances at them. Valor sighs as Varian shakes the neutralizing chemical compound over the goo. Laughing slightly. “I am sorry, Lavender, and Your Highness.” He said kneeling and bowing in front of Rapunzel.

Valor steps forwards. “It’s cool.” As for Rapunzel she was shocked a bit. “Your Highness? Wait. You know who I am?” She asked him. “Uh, how could I not. Laver talks about you a lot and..*laughs*..Look at your hair! Ha!” Varian gestured to braid hair before clearing his throat. “Your Highness.”

Valor had to admit. He may not have many  friends, but he does respect authority and is kind. “Oh, please. Just Rapunzel.” She said to him in a dismissive manner. “Wow. Ready? Okay.” Varian agrees the walks around them looking at Rapunzle’s hair.

“So, fantastical stories of your hair returning have spread throughout Corona. Yeah people say it’s magic but personally.  I don’t really believe that. Now, as you have probably guessed, I am a man of science, specifically al..” “..alchemy. We know.” Cassandra interrupts him. Clearly annoyed with his ranting.

“Now listen kid. We need your help. What let myself clear.” Cassandra leans in threateningly and grabs his shirt. “What happens here stays here, you got it?!”

Valor walks over. “Okay, Cassandra, can you please release him. Goggles here won’t tell trust me. I should know.” Cassandra looks at her with the same stare. “Laver’s right. I won’t tell. I mean who would I tell? *laughing nervously* Lavender is my only friend and uh, since she clearly already knows soo...” Varian cast his light blue eyes from Cassandra to Valor and back to Cassandra. With an exaggerated sigh Cassandra rolls her gray eyes then released him.

Brushing off his apron. “Follow me, Your.. Rapunzel.” He said leading the way. Rapunzel eagerly follows him. Cassandra half glares at Valor. Who just walks past her.

Rapunzel laid her hair on the table while Varian looks at through a giant moving magnifying glass lens. Valor stood just behind while Cassandra a few inches on the other side. Pascal sat on table watching.

“Oh, yes, this... this.. Ah.. is.. it’s very.. long.” Varian said getting to the end. He was a bit shocked, but quickly snaps from it. Rapunzel gives slight frown. Valor was wondering if she will rethink this.

“Oh, no, don’t worry, Your.. Rapunzel.” He leans on the magnify glass lens. “I am sure that I, Varian, can unlock the mystery of your hair with power of SCIENCE!” Varian shouts out  with confidence hitting the lens with his hand.

As the lens quickly spun back around. Valor manage to duck in time, but a *THUD* echoed as the lens hit Varian on the back of his head instead. “OW!” He shouts out. Wincing he places his hand behind his head.

Everyone looks over at him in concern. Only when as  he removes his hand from behind his head. He sees blood on his glove. “Heh. No sweat, it’s just a little.....” Varian sways and passed out. Valor managed to catch him. As he fell backwards and into her.

Supporting him with her arms. As he hung limply there. Everyone looks at her and Varian.

Sheepishly, Valor smiles and replies. “I guess I should have told you. He, gets queasy over blood and passes out.” Cassandra sighed. “You know my hair use to have healing powers. Maybe we can see if it still does.” Rapunzel suggested. “Great now let’s wake him up and test it.” Cassandra walks over to him. “HEY! SNAP OUT OF IT!” She shouts at him.

“Huh? What? Happened?!” He asked as he woke. Standing up. “You fainted.” Valor tells him. Varian winces and reaches back with his hand only to have Valor grab it. He looks over at her. “Oh, no you don’t, Var. I am not having you pass out on meee.. a-gain Valor exaggerates the last half. Releasing his hand.

“Sorry, Laver.” Varian apologize. Valor grins back. “It’s fine.. better me then falling dead on the floor.” Then she turns back to look at the others. “Well, while you were out. Raps, here got an idea...”

Chapter Text

Outside of the house Eugene and the horses waited. Looking at his pocket watch. “Ugh. What’s taking-‘em so long?” Groaning as he closed the watch. “I’m going in!” He declares.

Then an apple fell from a tree hitting Max on the era head.  Turning, he noticed an apple tree next to him. Hungrily he approaches it. But his legs set off an other booby trap. Set up by Varian. Which caused both horses to get stuck in pink sticky goo.

Then Varian’s raccoon friend scampers over. He climbs onto Max. Taking an apple and hurried off. Max snorts and glaring at the apple thief. As the core hits him on the head. Max snorts again and glares after the raccoon.

Back inside Rapunzel and Cassandra had tried to convince Varian to let Rapunzel try healing his head. And with him being a none magic believer wasn’t easy. Valor was the one in the end who managed to convince him to just test to see if it was possible. Even though she has seen it. Part of her wasn’t too sure it was the same well.... uh...hair. Now he was sitting there on a chair with her hair on his head.

Yet nothing happened. No glow. It was just plain old 70 foot long golden hair. “Better?” Rapunzel asked him as he removes the hair.  “Oh, yeah...” looks at his glove with blood. Wincing. “..No!” Varian said quickly shaking his head. “Huh.. that used to work.” Rapunzel said clearly confused.

“Used to... I am starting to think. It’s not the same hair you once had.” Valor beings to realize as she takes a strand. Varian hold up other parts. “Well, silver lining: we’ve acquired some critical data about your hair. Just like  Laver said. It looks like it no longer possesses its legendary healing powers.” Varian said to her.

“Progress! Now let’s figure out exactly what this hair is made of.” He walks over towards a object he had covered up.

Then pulls down a sheet covering a strange machine. In the center of his lab. “This machine can analyze any substance from chemical makeup, bitopic composition, and urg-structure integrity.” Varian said as he  pulls a lever and causing the table to spin upwards. “I built it myself.” He adds proudly.

“Nice.” Rapunzel admires. “If I’m right, this should tell us all there is know about your hair.” Jumping down Varian walks over too the levelers.

Rapunzel eagerly hurried over to the machine while Varian beings explaining the machine to them. Valor climbs up after her. And helps strap her into the machine.

“Raps, are you sure you wanna..Rapunzel?... uh.. Valor..?” Cassandra quickly noticed the missing girls. As Valor straps the last bit together. Cassandra gasped in shock as Valor steps back revealing Rapunzel. “Let’s do this.” The princess said as Valor steps back with Pascal riding on her shoulder. Pascal squeaks worriedly. “Don’t worry Pascal, Var, knows what he’s doing.” She reinsure the chameleon with a friendly smile.

“Okay! Rapunzel. Now, um, this might get a little..” “...Exciting?!” Rapunzel asked clearly very eggar to get going. Clearly not noticing how dangerous this machine was. “Um, sure! Yeah! That’s a good word for it.” Varian accepts. Then pulls the lever staring the machine up.

Within seconds it kicks on and spins quickly. Pulling the hair and turning Rapunzel sideways, upside down and all over. Valor noticed Cassandra watch in bewilderment. Yet it went by very quickly.

“And there we are done.” He said. “Alright not super fun, but it’s over.” Rapunzel laughs nervously. Valor shakes her head. “Actually, I think that’s was just the first test, Rap.” She explains.

Varian laughs and apologizes tuning back of his neck. “Ha! Oh, sorry. But don’t worry, only 86 more to go.” Then he starts up the next test. The tally board went from 87 to 86. And the next test began.

Valor yelps as Cassandra pulls her off to the side. “He’s crazy.” She hissed. “Oh, come on Cass. I went through nearly the same thing and survived. Rapunzel will be just fine.” Valor looks back at the test going on. “Trust me, nothing bad will happen to us here.” She walks back over to stand by Varian and watched.

Eugene walks over to window and looks in. A screams in shock. Seeing the active saw over his girlfriend. He quickly ducks away heading for the door.

“Amazing!” Varian shouts over the loud saw. Quickly he and Valor duck to avoid flying parts of the machine. “You were right. “It’s absolutely unbreakable!” He shouts out with amazement.

“See, hard to believe right? Because we’ve tried everything we had and it just won’t break.” Valor chimes in. “Everything?” “Yep.”

Then the saw blade  flies over them just as the door bangs open. Valor jumps and yelps hitting the machine behind. Usually she’s more aware and alert she is rarely caught off guard.

“But, I’m bettering you’re not!” All eyes turn to see Eugene standing there. Pointing threateningly as he could at Varian. “Let her go!” He demands and everyone stops what they where doing. “Eugene!... Hey!” Rapunzel said a little bit shocked to see him.

Varian’s face lit up. Seeing Eugene at the door. “Blondie! You’re okay!” Eugene said realizing no one was in danger. “Why wouldn’t she be? Me and Cass are here?” Valor asked him frowning in confusion.

“So, any of you  wanna tell me what’s going on here?” He asked while Rapunzel looks over at Cassandra before laughing nervously. Valor sighs. She should have known Eugene would figure something was up. “You know what? I don’t care. I’m gettin’ you outta there.” He walks over.

“Hey! You’re Flynn Rider!” Varian said with excitement seeing Eugene. “No. You don’t know what you’re talking about. I never seen you before in my life.” Eugene denies crossing his arms. “You can’t prove anything!” He challenged Varian.

“I wouldn’t be so sure.. Flynn.” Valor cheeky smirk as Varian nervously laughs muffling it with his hands. “I’m your biggest fan!” He squeals them hurried over pulls down a sheet revealing a shrine of his Flynn Rider collection.  “See?” Varian smiles widely.

Valor had to admit his little obsession with Flynn Rider as adorable. Yet when Eugene saw everything he quickly played along. “Hey, now! Flynn Rider, nice to be met.” Valor rolls her eyes at him. Eugene was unbelievable at times.

“I use to see your wanted posters all the time. You’re my hero!” He squeals again. Pascal squeaks from her shoulder. “I am not, staring.

I’m just watching Eugene make a fool of himself. Yeah. That’s all.” Pascal squeaks frowning as she huffs, “whatever.”

Varian was walking over with the pile of Flynn Rider books. “I’ve read every single book about you!”  He runs right into Eugene knocking all the books from his hands. Valor tries stifle a giggle. “Oh..” Eugene realizes. “Well, um you, see, that’s not actually me.” He tries to explain removing red book from his head.

“I just took the name from the book.” He tries to explain yet again and of course Varian wasn’t listening. “Hey, hey! Remember the time you dueled that evil knight, blindfolded?” He asked holding up the book along with a rod with glowing rings.

He began swinging it slicing the book.  “No, no, not me. Do you wanna put that down?” He asked fearfully. Dodging him as he swings it. ‘Note to self. Teach Var how to properly use his eh... alchemy tools.' Valor thought.

“This isn’t right Cassandra. I have to tell him that’s going on.” Rapunzel explains as she watches the scene play out. Valor looks over. “I agree. He did come all this way.” Valor points out glancing back over to make sure Varian and Eugene where both in one piece still.

Valor notice Cassandra who had been watching with an intrigue smirk of amusement. Was talking quietly with Rapunzel. “...and I trust that two trust Eugene, but I don’t trust Eugene, and if I can’t trust Eugene..” Valor sighs. “Is it wrong feeling bad we can’t tell him?” She asked Pascal who shrugs.

Valor quickly refocused on Eugene and Varian. “Tell me about how you took on the Earl of Camembert!” Varian begs him while Eugene looks on with fear. “Also not me. Would someone please explain to me who this child is?” Eugene asked.

“I’m Varian!”

Valor looks over to Pascal whispering. “Maybe I should take that thing from him before he get himself hurt or someone..” “..LAVENDER, HEADS UP!” Valor screams and dodges right as the rod hits the poster and it quickly burst into flames and was gone.

“Oh, come on!”

“..else..”

“VARIAN!” Quickly Valor turns around seeing the broken table and chemicals dripping from it. Along with both Varian and Eugene standing there looking at her. “I’m so sorry.. I’m sorry.. are you okay? I mean.. of course you okay.. you look okay.” Varian quickly asked her. Then the room began to shake with a little tremble.

Quickly as it came it subsided. “What was that trembling?” Eugene asked. “Trembling? I didn’t notice any trembling? Laver did you notice any trembling?” Varian asked her clearly trying brushing it off.

Valor narrows her icy blue eyes at him. “Is there something your not tell me Goggles?” She asked him. “What.. *psh*.. no.. Nothing you don’t already know.” Varian quickly said.

“Uh-Huh.” “Oh! Yeah!” He hits his hand to his head. “Almost forgot to get the spectrometric press! It’s the only way I can read the results of the test!” He explains with a light laugh.

“Hey! Flynn Rider! Wanna come with me?” Varian asked him. “Ooh. No.” Valor walks over and jabs him. He glares at her. “Hey! If.. if you come, I can show you something special. But, um, you’ve got to keep it a secret. Laver? Wanna join?” He asked. While Eugene brightens up. “I think I’m good. I’ll be more helpful here monitoring this machine. But two guys go right ahead.” Valor guessers for them to go.

Eugene was following boosting about how Varian was willing to share a secret with him. Soon the two guys were gone. Leaving the girls and Pascal alone.

Chapter Text

While Varian took Eugene away. It left the girls and Pascal alone. Valor walks over to the machine. “Soo.. How did you end up meeting Varian?” Rapunzel asked Valor with a curious look. “That’s uh.. well it’s hard to explain really.” She admits.

“I guess in a similar manner as today but, less crazy-ish.” Valor pounders. “He was trying to figure out this problem and I sort of wondered into it. Well next thing I know we’ll be working days and nights on this and that.” Valor finally explains with a smile.

“So.. how did he take it when he found out your a werewolf?” Cassandra asked her. “Because this kid doesn’t believe in magic.” “Oh, well. You see it was tricky. If remember correctly he fainted that day.. twice actually. For two totally different reasons. After that, he let me explain a few things he jumped on board and wanted to figure out everything there is to know about, well me. So the testing began. And because of it, little mishaps began happening here ad there. My hair ends up with a permanent purple dye streak. I lost my sense of smell for a couple hours and my hearing a little longer.”

Valor grins. “After that, I put his little ideas to rest and we’ve stopped.” She proclaimed.

“Sure, some tests weren’t practical, but I had fun. He really isn’t a bad person. He may do dangerous stuff at times, and I get warped up into it, but he just really wants to help out. By doing stuff like this..” gesturing to the machine and everything. “.. so he can help his village out.” Valor said with a proud smile.

“Sounds like you really like him.” Rapunzel points out. Valor blinks. “Wha..? Of course. He’s my friend.. and the same age as me. Sure we aren’t really the same in many ways. But still. Why wouldn’t I like being around him?” Valor countered quickly. Looking at them as Rapunzel gives a mischievous smile and Cassandra just smirks.

“Val, what she means is that you ‘like him.' Like how Raps likes Eugene. Valor laughs nervously. “Come guys. I’ve only known Varian for six months. What gives you that idea? We’re only friends.” Valor asked.

“For one. You been staring at him the whole time we’ve been here.” Rapunzel points out. Valor shrugs. “So, he works around dangerous stuff. I’m just keeping a watchful eye on him.” She defends. “Okay, then why are blushing?” Cassandra asked her. Valor huffed. “Look, how about we get back on track here. Which test number was it again.. 15.. 14?” Valor asked.

While Cassandra and Rapunzel whispered. “She’s denying it. I can tell.” Cassandra said watching her. “Well he’s sort of cute too..” “..You two ladies know I can hear you both still.” Valor speaks up as she sits down where Varian was. And looking over the controls with sly smirk.

Cassandra and Rapunzel smile at each other. They didn’t forget. Valor hearing was sharp and could pick up movement miles away. “Oh.. we know.” Rapunzel adds. Valor didn’t turn to face them. Her face was crimson from the embarrassment.

Then Pascal squeaks from her shoulder. Glancing as he made a heart with his hands. She sighs. “Can’t you three just drop it?” Valor mutters. “I should have gone with Var and Eugene when I had the chance.” She grumbles to herself.

Meanwhile Eugene was pressing Varian on details. Details on what Rapunzel and the others were doing here. “Listen, buddy. I need you to tell me everything that the princess told you.” Eugene tells him. Tired of being left in the dark.

“Oh, yeah.” Varian eagerly began explaining. “Well, okay, first she said, “We’re looking for Varian,” and then I said, “I’m Varian,” and then she said, “Uh, hi, sorry to bother you, sir, but I wanna ask you about my hair. Wait, oh, I’m sorry, let me backup. I forgot to tell you about the raccoon trap. So, there was..” “..Yes. Yes, that’s great, but what I meant is tell me all the important stuff she said.” Eugene interrupts him.

“Mr. Rider, when the Princesses of Corona speaks directly to you, every word is important.” Varian clarifies firmly. Eugene groans in response. As they made their way to the shack.

“So, how did you end up meeting Valor? It seems you’ve known her for awhile now.” Eugene asked him as they walked to the shack.

“Lavender? Yeah.. we’ve met six months ago. She sort of wonder into one of my many.. many.. inventions. Since then we became friends and she’s been helping me out with my many projects.” Varian explains entering the shack with Eugene following.

Varian began moving things about the shack searching for the press. “I know that the press is here somewhere Flynn.” He reassured him. “Again, it’s Eugene.” “Here it is..” he pulls off the blanket showing the press. “And, once the tests are done, it’ll print the results in parchment paper..” Varian explains holding it up to show him. “..That’s muy interesante, but get back too..” then the ground shook again.

“Whoa.. whoa. Why does this keep happening?” Eugene asked him. Varian gets moving Eugene away from a trap door. “Flynn Rider! I believe I promised you..” he pulls the hatch open. “..a secret.”

They began to descend. “Now, if my dad knew I was down here, he’d kill me. Heh. Of course, if he knew what I was actually doing down here, he’d probably be impressed, or at least I hope he’d be impressed.” Varian explains leading the way with the lantern.

“These tunnels run throughout my entire village, which makes them perfect for my project.” Varian said. “What project?” “Well technically, Laver has been helping me. So, it’s sort of our project now. Ah, here we are.” Eugene stares wide eyed at the huge machine before him.

The machine creeks. “I don’t get it?” Eugene admits as he let Varian lead him closer. “Through the miracle of alchemy.., not magic... I found away to heat this entire tank of water with a single drop of my newest yet to be named compound.. which I’ll call Flynnoum!” He declared proudly holding out neon glowing yellow chemical.

“I still don’t get it.” Eugene confuses. “I’m gonna surprise my village by bringing the people hot running water!” The machine creeks and streams. *Laughing.* “I’ve constructed five of these babies all throughout the caverns.” Varian explains to him which now Eugene was clearly catching on. “Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. These.. theses., tremors.. your machines are causing them?” Eugene asked him fearfully.

“Wha.. No, no, no. My machines are not causing them. The chemical reactions they trigger do.” Varian drop of drop of the Flynnoum into red liquid causing it to burst into fire.

“And no else but, you and Wolfe. Knows you’re doing this? Okay, listen, kiddo. I’m no expert in.. whatever this is, but anything that can cause earthquakes can’t be safe.We got to warn people about this.” Eugene tries to reason with him. “What? No! We can’t! Okay? You gave me your word you’d keep this a secret. And besides, I’m an expert and this all perfectly safe.” Another tremor and a screw flew lose and right between them.

Eugene looks him worriedly. “Yeah, it does.. does that all the time.” Varian tells him.

The testing on Rapunzel’s hair was nearing the end. “Only.. 12.. more... tests.. to... go!” Her voice was shaking as the machine rattled about. Then the bell dings. “Yaaaaay!” Valor rolls her eyes, but smiles. At least someone here was having fun.

“Team Awesome is ba-aaack!” Varian sing-says as they returned from their little trip to get the press. Varian carries the press past them. “Now, Rapunzel, I know my tests have been a pain in the hm-hm.” Valor shakes her head. “Aw, I wouldn’t say pain.” Just then the room lit up with bright electric glow. Valor shields her eyes from it quickly.

“Y.. Now I would.” Valor blinking looking at her. Rapunzel hair fizzled and sparks. Varian sets the press down and hooks it up. “In a moment, this little guy.. hehe..” he kicks it. “He’ll give us all the answers we want.” “Woo-hoo! Answers!” Rapunzel enthusiastically said.

Cassandra looks to Eugene with a sly look. “So, Eugene!” She walks over to him. “Got yourself a secret, huh?” Like an interrogation. “If you wanna call it that. The kid ha.. uh-uh, nice try, Cass.” Eugene catches himself.

Valor frowns. Trapping Varian on his shoulder. “You showed him it?” She whispers. Varian beans. “Yep, all good.” Valor frowns. “Uh-Uh.” She wasn’t convinced. “Come on, Laver. It’s perfectly safe.” Varian reissues her.

Then it begs a to shake again louder. Chittering sound made her watch as Varian’s raccoon fell from above and races off. Valor fixes a narrow look at him. Varian laughs nervously. “Ummm. Look Raps, I think it’s time to go. Now.” Eugene suggested.

Rapunzel looks over at him. “Now? You’re kidding, right? This almost finished.” She tells him. The machine dings as it drops to 8. “Can we talk?” Eugene asked Varian. “Uh-ha, of course! That’s what Team Awesome does! Whoa!” Eugene grabs him pulling them out of the lab.

“Those things down there are dangerous!” Eugene snaps at Varian. “Dangerous? No, they’re not dangerous..” “..Varian what’s going on?” Valor exited the lab walking over. “Wha.. nothing. Flynn here thinks the machines below us are dangerous, but they are not. I... I adjusted my calculations for every possible outcome. The margin of error is.. is .56 percent or.. now, wait, wait, was it .57?” He asked.

“Wait? You don’t remember? Var? How are you not sure?” Valor asked him. “Uh..” “Look you two I don’t know anything, that was just said.” Eugene addressed them both.

“Look, Varian, I think you’re a good kid, a.. a.. a smart kid and you got great intentions. But, I’m asking.. pleading with you.. for the love of my life, Valor’s life..”

“Hey!” She snaps at him. Eugene looks at her then back at Varian. “..and your entire village.. I ask you to please shut off those machines until a seismic-quake-atologist can come inspection!” Eugene pleaded.

Valor sighs. “You’re something alright. You are really good at begging for you Life now.” She said to Eugene turns towards. “How are you not freaking OUT!” Valor blinks. “Should I be?” She asked him. “Because.. you just did it of all of us just now.” Eugene sighed. “Does nothing phase you?” Valor narrow her icy eyes at him. “I have no right to answer that.” She points out sharply.

The ground was shaking again. Both teens gave a slightly worried look. To each other then back at Eugene. He had a point though. “I suppose we can turn them down.. a bit. Come Laver.” Valor hurried after him. Leaving Eugene to deal with Rapunzel and Cass.

They hurried to the machine. Which was starting to look uh.. off. “Uh.. Goggles. How long has this been doing.. Uh this?” Valor gestured to machine as it streams and shakes violently.

“Uh, All.. weekend?” Varian admits. Valor sighs. “And you didn’t inform me before leaving.. these things have been acting up.” Valor shoot him a sharp look. “Hey! I have it cover Lavender. See.. oh, hehe.. I guess it was .57.” He admits tapping the monitor.

“Varian!” She shouts and then leans over looking over his shoulder. “Var, what was the one thing I asked you not to do while I was away?” She asked him.

“Not, to blow anything up. And, see everything still intact.” Valor shook head. “Let’s do something before this thing destroys this place.” The two broke away.

Varian leans on the table as he tightens the loose screws. Valor was on the other side doing the same. Then a crash made her look over to see the Flynnoleum knocked over and covering the ground. “No, no.. the Flynnoleum!”

The ground was shaking more. Varian began to clean it. Valor dashes over grabbing his hand pulling him along. “What are you doing? The..” “Look you can make more, but right now we have to get to the rest of these babies before they burst!” She shouts at him leading the way above ground.

Looking around. “I’ll go that way!” Valor points, “and you head the other way.” They need to cover as much ground as they could. Then the sound of something breaking. “There’s no time, come on.” He said grabbing her hand pulling her along with him.

They quickly ran towards the next closest highpressure machine. Valor could hear the building breaking and the glass from all around. ‘Okay maybe I wasn’t thinking rationally back there.'

Eugene managed to explain to Rapunzel and Cassandra what was going on. And as the last test kicks in. They were trying to stop it. But the controls weren’t working.

Eugene grabs the glowing rod jamming it into the spinning machine. Bringing it to a stop. Both him and Cassandra ran over. “Give me your arm.” Cassandra tells her. As they pull.

Rapunzel looks out and gasp. “Eugene!” She shouts out. They look to see Varian and Valor race by. “Varian! Valor! They’re gonna get themselves killed!” Eugene shouts.

“Get her out of here. I’ll get the kids.” Cassandra tells him running out after the two teens.

They had managed to turn off two of the highly pressured machine. Now three more remains. Just then something grabs them both of them. Causing Valor to jerk to a stop.

They turned to see.. “ Cassandra?!” “Listen you two! We gotta get outta here!” She orders. “No, no! Ugh! No, we’ve got three more pumps to shut off, and I can’t let this happen again!” Varian said trying to pull free.

“Ahh.” Fiery ball flew past them. Valor stares with wide icy blue eyes. “Uh! Guys in..COMING!” Valor shouts out directing all eyes at an incoming pipe. Then Cassandra grabs both of them pulling them towards her right. They all squeeze their eyes shut as the pipe lands right over them.

Chapter Text

Coughing, Valor blinking her eyes open. She could feel two bodies crushing her from the front and side. She was alive! They were all were alive! Cassandra pulls away from them. The two young teens felt relieved to be okay.

Cassandra climbs up first followed by Valor then Varian. “Thank you, m’lady.” Varian said to Cassandra while Valor snickers listening to his attempt to flatter her. Cassandra rolls her eyes at him. Valor climbs out first.

Gulping she stares at the mess and detection around her. '‘This.. this bad.” She noted frowning. “Varian!” His father’s shouts rang out calling for his son. Quirin was franticly searching for his son. A few of the villagers began walking over. Quirin spots his son.

Then runs over them. “Uh-oh. It’s my dad.” Varian said as he climbs out of the pipe. Quirin grabs his son’s shoulder kneeling in front of him. “Are you okay? What happened?” He asked him. Clearly was concern for Varian. “Dad, I’m sorry.” He said looking away from him. Quirin sighs. “Not again, Varian.” he stood back up and addresses his people. “But, dad...” “Is everybody okay?” He asked as Cassandra and Valor rest a hand on Varian’s shoulder. Both giving small smiles.

Looking at Varian, Valor then ran after his father. “Sir, wait please!” He turns around. Valor stands facing him. He wasn’t’t very happy as Valor began talking with him. Varian can see he wasn’t in the mood. Yet she stubbornly argues her case.

Defending him and everything. “Look, you should just go home.” Quirin said turning to help the people. “No.” She said. “I am reasonable for half of this mess. Varian was just wanting to help.” Valor points out. “And he nearly got people killed.. again.” Quirin motions to the villagers.

Valor shook her head. “I don’t care if tell me off. I can handle that. But, you can’t just turn a cold shoulder every time your son tries to help.” Valor narrowed her eyes. “Listen, Valor. I have his mess to clean up, if you want help go right ahead.” She watches him leave.

Valor huffed. “Why do adults have to be so stubborn and mean?” She grumbles walking back to Cassandra and Varian. “You didn’t have to do that again? He won’t change.” Valor rolls her eyes. “I don’t care and I’m not letting my best friend take the full blame.”

After giving Rapunzel the neutralizing formula to free the horses. “Your not coming back with us?” Rapunzel asked her. Valor shook her head. “I’m going to help out here. This where I’m practically living after all. Though I’ll visit you guys real soon.” Valor said turning she waves them off. Then makes her way back to the village and what was left of Varian’s home. They had a long week ahead of them.

Valor spots Varian not far from his house. He was already cleaning up. Valor walks over to help him. “Let guess, you father ground you.” She said as she began to lift and move some of debris. “Yeah.” Valor tosses the slab away and walks over to him. “I know you where just trying to help everyone. He’ll notice soon. It just takes time Goggles.” She said resting hands on his shoulders getting him too look up at her. “Just never give up. One day he will see it.” Varian grins. “Thanks, Lavender.” Valor smirks. “No sweat now let’s get going. We have a pretty big mess to clean up after all.”

It was late. The moon had began to rise. Valor was pulling a bundle of debris towards the edge of the town. Tossing it with the others. She walks back. Luckily the damage was’t too bad like she first thought, but by look of things it will take awhile to rebuild a few places. Varian was walking by with rumble and a lantern. Ruddiger was watching them.

Valor shakes her black fur causing dust to fly. Then her ears twitch turning around to see Quirin walking over. Shifting back and walks to greet him. “Is there something I can help you with?” Valor asked him. “Yes. Actually I want you to stop.” Blinking she crocks her head to the side. “Why? I told ya I’m hel..” Quirin raises a hand up to stop her. “Let me finish.” He lowers his hand. “What I mean is I want both you and Varian to call it a night.” He said “It’s late and it’s been a very long day.  You two can get some rest and we’ll pick up at sunrise.” Quirin explains.

Valor shrugs. “We don’t mind working all night. It is our fault after all.” Quirin sighs. “Valor, this not up for debate. Go tell Varian.” He then turns to walk off leaving her watching leave. With a sigh she walks off. “I don’t get him sometimes.”

Valor walks over handing Varian a sandwich before sitting down next to him. “Thanks.” He said. “No problem.” Valor smirks as they ate. The mayhem from the day was fading into memories.

They spent the rest of the night talking about everything that had happened. Valor smiles as Varian began talking about Flynn Rider and how cool he was and how lucky he was to meet him.

‘It was really was an eventful day today. I am glad I’m here, and getting to experience all this. With friends... my friends.‘

“What’s this Goodwill Gopher Grab Festival about?” Valor asked while she helped out one of the local shops with repairs. “Ah, the Goodwill Gopher Festival is well known here in Corona, I’m shocked you’ve never head of it.”

Valor gives a shy grin. “Well, since I am not from Corona, I haven’t heard of it.” She confessed.

Yet again she never really took part in festivals back home ether. So, stuff like this was still new to her. The lady next to her chuckled. “You know it’s hard to believe you came from another country.” She said with a smile. “You act a lot like us after all.” Valor blinked in confusion. “I do?..” “Valor!” The young werewolf turns to see Quirin calling for her.

Leaving the others she walked over to him. “Yes, is there something I can do for you?” She asked coming to stand in front of him. Varian’s dad was a kind person, but sometimes she wondered if he liked her at all. “I overhead what you and Mrs. Lakes where talking about. So, how would like to take the rest of the day off and check out the Goodwill Gopher Grab” He offered her.

Valor blinking, her icy blue eyes widen, yet she was confused. “Really? But, the town.. “ Looking around. Most of everything was replaced by now. The damage was almost all but gone. “We can finish up here, besides it would be good idea to go. Since you are living here right now. It would be good for you to learn more about Corona.” Quirin explains.

Valor pondered the thought. ‘He’s right. This my home right now, and if it’s such a big event. Maybe I should go?' She thought. “Well, okay then.” Quirin smiles warmly. “Good. I also want Varian to go with you, since..” Valor opens her mouth to agrue but Quirin cut her off. “..I know you can find you way around, but it’s better to have someone else to help. Besides he needs to take a break as well.” Valor sighed. Sure she could find her way around Corona on her own, but he was right though. “Yes, sir.” Turning she went to go find her friend. ‘Doubt he would want to go. He been very busy lately.'

“A break, no, no, no. I can’t not now. I have a lot of work to do.” Varian tells her while he moves about the lab.

Valor sighed. “Look, I am not asking because I want you to come, I mean. I’d like it if you came of course, but your dad told me to tell you to take a break and go with me.” Valor said.

Varian pushes up his googles up onto his head. Which in turn uncovered his light blue eyes. “Laver, I have a week at least to get this done. I’m already behind as it is.” Valor rolls her icy eyes. “If you would just let me hep..” “...Nope, this a surprise.”

Valor huffed. “Look, Goggles. It’s only for awhile. We don’t have be there long.” Valor offered him. “Plus, I sure, Rapunel, Eugene and Cassandra would there.” Varian light blue eyes lit up at the mention of the Captain’s adopted daughter’s name.

Ever since the explosion and the princess and her friends visit. Valor quickly leaned Varian was developing a crush on Cassandra. “Really?” Valor nods. Varian walks over. “I guess a small break won’t hurt.” Valor chuckled. “Come, Var let’s go.” She said as they left the lab.

Everyone in Corona was gathered at the castle. Valor looked about the crowd of people. Her icy blue eyes fixed ahead of her, yet her body moves subconsciously closer towards Varian. She wasn’t fond of being large cowards just yet.

Gopher Grab

The King and Rapunzel stood on the balcony. Over looking everyone. As Fredric address the citizens below. “We have much to celebrate during this year’s Goodwill Gopher Grab. Not only is this the 500th anniversary, but we commemorate this, Princess Rapunzel’s very first festival.” Valor listens as everyone cheers and clapped out loud for the princess. Even Varian joined in.

“To makes this joyous event, our princess has redesigned the Gopher Grab deal of goodwill.” The king reveals the new design Rapunzel had made. Loud cheers rang out through the crowd. “Ladies and gentlemen of Corona, Princess Rapunzel.” King Fredric introduced his daughter.

“Thank you so much.” As cheers and applauses rang out.  “Aw! You’re all kind.” Rapunzel tells them. With her usual happy smile. Then a gravelly voice rang out. “Boo!” Everyone was quite making easier to hear him. Valor frowns and looks about, but couldn’t see anything or anyone. “Who was that?” She mutters.

Yet looking back up at the king. He raised an eyebrow a bit upset hearing the boo. As for Rapunzel. Well she was oblivious to it and shouts back. “And boo to you too sir!” With a smile.

“Does she even realize what boo means?” Valor asked no one in-particular. Rapunzel just smiles on as she continues her speech. Valor sighs. “I guess not.” “What as that?” Varian asked. Looking at her curiously. “What, oh just talking to myself.” Valor quickly waves it off. “How about we go find the, Uh, whatever your needing now maybe we’ll run to Cassandra on our way.” She offered him. Varian quickly agrees with her leading the way through the crowd. Valor glances back up at Rapunzel with slight frown before shaking her head and hurried after Varian.

All around town people were hanging up the new Gopher Grab banner. As Rapunzel and Eugene made their way through town. Everyone waves as they walk by. “I gotta hand it to you, blondie...” a girl runs over hugging her. Rapunzel smiles and returns it. “The people of Corona love you.” Eugene complements.

“They sure do know how to make a girl feel special.” The girl walks off as they continued. “I mean, I’ve never heard so much applause, and somebody actually booed me.” Rapunzel said with a happy smile.

“Forget that guy. I wouldn’t pay too much attention..” Eugene tried to tell her scrawling. “..I’ve never ever heard that cheer before.” Rapunzel interrupts him. Eugene frown stopping in his tracks. “It’s so exotic.” Rapunzel kept going on.

“Huh?” Eugene stares shocked. “Do you think he’s from overseas?” The princess was still very oblivious to what was going on. “You don’t know what boo means, do you?” Eugene asked her as she turns around to face him.

“Yeah, I do.” Rapunzel scuffs. “It’s a cheer! Like.. ‘yippee!', ‘hooray,' ‘boo,' right?” Rapunzel asked him.

“Uh..”

“No?”

Rapunzel frowns. Looking at her boyfriend. “All right, so what does it mean?” She asked him. Clearly she must have miss understood what just happened. So, they went to find Cassandra to help explain things.

“It means someone hates you.” Cassandra said bluntly to Rapunzel. Who stares with wide shock eyes. “Way to candy-coat it, Cassandra.” Eugene said leaning back in a chair tossing an apple. Glaring at Cassandra who was touching a Gopher.

“Why wouldn’t someone like me?” Rapunzel asked clearly hurt by this. Walking out of the tent. “What could I have done to this person?” She asked them. “Rapunzel, who cares?” Eugene said. “Not everyone has to like you. That’s part of life.” Eugene points out to her.

“Eugene’s right.” Picking up the Gopher. “Someone could not like you for any number of reasons.” Cassandra explains to her while she began brushing the Gopher. “For instance, maybe you have a stupid goatee that makes you look ridiculous..” Cassandra glances at Eugene with a smirk.

“..And someone might not like you for that.” She insults. “You know, Cassandra, it’s a little hard to take your insults seriously when your holding that thing.” Eugene points at the Gopher she held. The Gopher grunts as she brushes him.

“This thing is important.” Cassandra sets down the brush. Holding the Gopher up and walks over to portraits of him and others nobles.

“Gregorio the Goodwill Gopher represents half a millennium of honor and tradition throughout this kingdom.” Cassandra explains as Eugene looks at the Gopher. “We’re still talking about the rat, right?”

“Gopher.” Cassandera corrected him. “And for your information, the Gopher Grab is a Corona institution. I was entrusted as the mascot’s caretaker because it is a mark of hallowed esteem.” Cassandra states proudly.

“Yeah, that’s special.” The Gopher grunts in response. “He just popped on you.” Cassandra eyes wide as she looks down gasping. As Eugene walks over to Rapunzel. “Listen, blondie.. ugh.. you’re just gonna have to accept the fact that some people aren’t gonna like you.” Eugene tells her.

“Ugh..” Rapunzel groans. “All I hear is his gravelly, ‘Boo,' over and over in my head.” The princess explains to him. “Rapunzel, I know your feelings are hurt. I get that.” Eugene rest his hands on her shoulders. “But, hey, you gotta admit, if Cassandra and I are actually agreeing on something..”

Eugene looks over his shoulder at Cassandra. “..it’s probably worth listening to. Let this one.” Eugene tells stepping backwards lowering his hands. “You know what.” *sighing* “You’re right. Thank you.” Rapunzel tells him giving him a kiss then left the tent and the others.

“Yeah, no.” Put hand on his hip. “She’s not.” Eugene concludes. “Nope, not letting it go.”

Cassandra agreed while brushing the Gopher.

Chapter Text

All around town the everyone now had their Gopher Grab banners hanging up. Rapunzel sat outside a Café with Pascal. Reflecting on what her best friend and boyfriend had told her. “You know, Pascal, maybe Eugene and Cassandra we’re right. I shouldn’t let this booer bother me.” She tells her chameleon friend.

Rapunzel then sat up straighter. “It’s not the end of the world because I got booed, right? Happens to a lot of people, I’m sure. And you know what? I’m not even gonna think about the word “boo” anymore.” Rapunzel declares.

Just than people began walks pass her and Pascal. First was a guy with strumming his ukulele sings.

An other ran pass her shouting for someone to see his new taboo. Next a shoe marker walks by selling. Boo repairs. Rapunzel was hearing boo all over the place as people came and went. Rapunzel groans. “Ugh.” She rest her head on the table.

“No, thank youuu!” The gravelly voice. Rapunzel looks to see man a cross from. As he enters a carriage. “Wow! Thank you. Thank you indeed.” “My pleasure, son.” He climbs into the wagon."spread the goodwill.”  The drive closes the door.

“The sweet, little, old man can’t be the same person who booed me, can he?” Rapunzel asked Pascal. “Boo!” The man said as he passed by her. Causing Rapunzel to gasp.

Rapunzel added the finishing touches to the painting of the man she saw. “Okay, I’d say that looks like our booer, wouldn’t you, Pascal?” She asked admiring her handy work. Pascal grunts in response. “Now, we just need to figure out who he is. Someone has to know him, right.” Rapunzel pounders looking at her painting.

The door opens as Eugene pokes his head in. “Hey, it’s Monty!” Eugene exclaims happily. Rapunzel gasp in shock. “Wait! You know him?” As Eugene walks in. “Of course I.... everyone knows Monty.” He tells her. “Probably because he’s really grouchy and doesn’t like anyone, right?” Rapunzel asked Eugene hopefully.

“What Uncle Monty?” Eugene asked shocked by this. “He’s the sweetest guy in all Corona. Let me tell you. If there was someone he didn’t like,  that person would have to be the most horrible...” Rapunzel frowns as Eugene quickly realized. “..Oh, my goodness! That’s the guy who booed you, isn’t it?” Eugene asked her.

“Yes.” Rapunzel replies sadly. “Wait. Wait a minute. No.” Eugene stammers trying to correct himself to cheer her up. “Uh, no what I’m looking at it..” Eugene examines the paining.

“ ‘Cause I’m really looking at it now.” He gives a chuckle. “Before I glanced at it.  That is not Monty. No, that is.. Rude Guy.. er. Rude Guyer. Yeah. Oh, boy!” Eugene tried to quickly redeem what just happened. “Nobody likes Rude Guyer.” Pascal scowls at him. “‘Cause he’s a rude guy.” “Hey, looks at that! Uncle Monty!” Stan states seeing the painting.

With that hope of convincing Rapunzel otherwise went out the window. “Oh, hi, Eugene. That’s some painting of Uncle Monty, huh?” Stan said admiring Rapunzel handy work. “It is Monty.” Rapunzel puts her hands on her hip as she stares Eugene down.

“I’ll say.” Stan joined in. “You know, you don’t forget the guy who introduced you to your wife.” The guard explains to her. “And everyone like him?” Rapunzel asked.

“No, no, of course not. Don’t be silly.” Eugene  denies. “Eugene’s right. Everyone loves him.” Stan tells her. “Uh, do you know where I could find him?” Rapunzel asked the guard.

“Monty is a very private person.”

“Sure, Your Majesty. He has a wonderful little shop in town. Here let me draw you a map.” Stan pulls out a sheet of paper and began writing down the directions. Holding it up. “Thank you, Stan.” Rapunzel casted a look at Eugene who sarcastically replied back. “Yeah, thanks so much, Stan.”

“It’s no problem. And when you see him, tell him thanks for the flowers he sent to my mom when she was sick.” Stan turned and left the room.

“So, listen, Rapunzel..” “I know. I know. You’re gonna tell me to leave it alone, but this is all just a simple miss understanding. I need to clear things up so me and Uncle Monty can be friends.” Rapunzel leaves. Eugene sighs in defeat.

“Ugh! These berry stains are impossible.” Cassandra complains as she brushes the teeth of the Gopher. “I just don’t get it, Cass. Why can’t Rapunzel let it go?” Eugene asked as he began to rant to Cassandra. “Okay, so one person doesn’t like her. Who cares?” “I know! I mean, only one or two people like you, and you’re okay with that.” Cassandera points out.

“Exactly... oh, I see what you did there.” Eugene turns to face her. “I gotta get some lotion for his paws. Can you watch him?” Cassandra asked handing the Gopher to Eugene. Who picks him up by the scruff.

“Oh, are you sure I can be trusted with hallowed Corona Institution?” Eugene asked her sarcastically. “I was talking to the gopher.” Cassandra explains and walks off leaving Eugene and the gopher alone.

“Okay, Monty can’t be as great as everyone says, Pascal. I mean this here says that he owns his sweat shop.” Rapunzel points out as she looks at the map.

Pascal croaks and points to a shop up head of them. Looking up from the map. She sees kids laughing in front of a candy store. “Sweet shop.” Rapunzel grumbles. “Yeah, okay, way to spell, Stan.” Rapunzel than makes her way to the shop. Looking in the sweets were all decorated as symbols from Corona.

Rapunzel opens the door causing the bell to chime. Rapunzel stares excitedly about. Candy and sweets all over. Kids gathered about taking chocolate bunnies from a tray, Uncle Monty held out.

Rapunzel watched as he hands the last one to young girl. “There you go dear. May you spread the spirit of goodwill through Corona.” Monty said with a smile. “Pardon me.” Rapunzel said walking up as the kids left.

“And you ,sweetie, how can I help..” Monty turns around and sees Rapunzel standing there. “..You.” He said displeased to see the princess.

“Hi, Uh, Monty.” Rapunzel greets him with a smile. “Can I call you Monty?” Rapunzel asked him. “Apparently.” He said walking off. Laughing nervously, Rapunzel notice the blue ribbons. “So, I see you’re a Gopher Grab fan.”

“Figure that out all by yourself, huh?” Uncle Monty asked, leaning on the table.

Fixing with a skeptical like stare. “Well, give the girl a lolly.” Monty bends over handing it to Rapunzel and walks off. “Ha. That one fell on the floor.” Monty laughed.

Pascal scowls as Rapunzel lowers the lolly. “Um, Monty, how do I put this? Um, during my speech, somebody booed me, and I was wondering..” “..And what are you gonna do, huh? Huh?” Monty challenged her. “You gonna throw me into the dungeon cause I booed you, huh? Is that why your here?” He crosses his arms. “To oppress me?” He asked her.

“No! No!” Rapunzel was taken it back by this. “I don’t want to oppress anyone. I just wanna know what I did.” “Listen, Your Highnesses.” Monty our his hand up quickly. “I don’t need to explain myself to you.” Rapunzel turns and leaves. “Wait! Princess.” Monty calls after her.

Rapunzel turns around to face him. “That lollipop wasn’t free, you know.” Monty tells her pointing at the candy.

“I am not giving up that easy, Pascal.” She tells her chameleon friend as she exited the shop. “If he can’t see what a likable person I am, well, I will make him see.” Rapunzel declares.

Chapter Text

Rapunzel went to work on her plan to get Monty to like her. Using a flip board. “Here’s what we know so, far.” She begins to explain things to Pascal.

“Monty has a candy shop, everyone loves him, and he likes yelling mean things at me. Time for operation Make Stuff.” Rapunzel flips the board around from her painting to the other side. Pascal croaks and face palms in a chameleon like manner.

Rapunzel started off by knitting a green scarf to give Monty. Once done she set off to find him. Monty sat in the forest feeding the wildlife was Rapunzel walks up from behind him with scarf in hand.

As she puts the scarf around his neck. Monty gasp. “Look at this, this flashy.” He said looking at the scarf as he puts the bag of fed down. “I hate flashy. Also I hate green.” Monty rudely points out and tosses back into Rapunzel’s face before leaving.

Once she got back to the castle. Rapunzel removes the scarf from her face and crosses it off the list. “Okay, so scarfs and the color green are out. How about chocolate sculpture, Pascal?” She asked. Pascal croaks at her as they hurried off.

Rapunzel and Pascal began cooking the chocolate. Rapunzel was feeling good about this one. Once melted down she pours the chocolate into a mold of Monty’s head.

Soon it cooled. Rapunzel removes the final product from it mold. “Let’s go Pascal.” Rapunzel cheerful says and went to find Monty.

Monty opens the shop’s door. The shop’s bell rings. Standing there was Rapunzel holding a chocolate head of him. Smiling she holds it out to him. Monty pokes in the nose with a scowl. “Ah, just as I thought. Hollow."He shakes his head. “In my day, chocolate sculptures were solid,  like our values.” Monty coldly said and shouts the door on Rapunzel.

Rapunzel returns back and crosses off Sculpture. “Okay, so he didn’t like the sculpture. No big deal. Maybe I should, I know.” Rapunzel grins grabbing her paints she hurried off.

As Monty exit his shop to sweep. When a drop of red paint fell into his nose. “Oh!” He looks over to see Rapunzel painting his store’s sign. Making it brighter and colorful. “Wow! Much better than the one my great-grandfather painted, when he built this shop with his own two hands!” Monty sarcastically shouts walking back inside he slams the door causing the sign to fall.

Valor broke away from Varian. They promise to meet up at the Gopher Grab in an hour. Valor manages to find the tent she was looking for. Entering it, Cassandra and Eugene where in there. “Hey, guys what’s up?” Valor greets them.

“Wolfe! You’re here!” Eugene grins. “I thought you had a village to clean up.” Valor shrugs. “It’s almost back to normal. Besides I’m here to see this Gopher Grab event.”

Eugene grins. “Glad you could make it. Also we could use your help.” Blinking, Valor frowns. “My help? Does it have to do with the booer?” Valor asked him. Eugene nods. Then Rapunzel walks in flops onto the couch groaning. “He hates me.” She mumbles.

“Okay, come on, Raps. Give it up. Clearly, this jerk’s got serious problems.” Cassandra speaks up. “Cass is right. I mean. Not everyone likes everyone. You should leave it be.” Valor joins in.

“But, if Monty could just see that I was...” “..Monty is the one who hates you?” Cassandra looks shocked while Valor gives a confused look. “Ugh. Let me guess. You love him.”

Eugene shook his head and waved his hands. Cassandra catches on. “What. No! Me? Love him no.” Cassandra says quickly. “No. I hate that guy.” She lied.

Valor looks between them. “So, who’s Monty? Because I am not following?” Valor asked them in confusion. “Wait. You’ve never met Monty.” Eugene asked in shock. Valor nods. “I haven’t gotten chance to see a lot or meet a lot of people yet.”

Eugene and Cassandra look at each other. “He’s the guy who booed me.” Rapunzel said solemnly. Valor blinks then her eyes widen. “Oh, okay.” “Look, you’ll just going to have to accept that Uncle Monty.. Monty doesn’t like you.” Cassandra tells her.

Valor nods in agreement. “I’ve dealt with more than my fair share of haters. Best just let this one go.” Rapunzel looks at them. “Your right. There is nothing, I can do.” She said with a devious look.

Valor and the others exchange worried looks. “Uh, Rapunzel I think your over thinking this.” Cassandra said. “What no, I think there’s way to get him to like me.” Rapunzel gets up and  leaves.

“Okay this might end badly.” Eugene said once she was gone. The others nod in agreement.

The bell to Monty’s store rings. “Can I help you young lady?” Monty asked looking over to see a brown haired glasses wearing woman standing at the door. Rapunzel in her disguise walks in. “Good afternoon, sir.” Rapunzel adjust her fake glasses in greeting. Taking a step. “Whoa.” He trips over the chocolate head on the floor.

“Oh, I’m so sorry. Are you alright?” Monty asked as he caught her and helped her up. “Oh, don’t worry about it. I’m fine.” Rapunzel brushes off the orange dress.

Rapunzel looks at the chocolate Monty head. “I got that thing as a gift, and I’m trying to find some use for it.” Monty said as he came to stand next to Rapunzel. “Let me tell you, it’s not even useful as a doorstop.” “Yeah, dumb and totally useless thing.” The princess scoffs.

Then she kicking it. “I sure hope the foolish, but clearly well-intentioned  person who made it regrets it, even though it probably took her... or him.. who knows?.. hours to.. *clears her throat*.. get it just right?” Rapunzel said.

“Yes.. right.” Monty said. “Well, what can I get for you, Miss, uhm..”  “Uh, Miss.. Misty... Misty. Miss Misty.” Rapunzel tells him. “And I’ll have some jellybeans.” Rapunzel lightly laughs. “Every kind but green because I.. I hate green.” She said.

Laughing Monty swings an arm around her shoulders. “A girl after my own heart. I’ll tell you what. I’ve got a personal stash where I already picked out all the green ones. Let me get them.” Monty said walking off. Rapunzel smiles. Things were going as she hoped.

Chapter Text

Cassandra gasp as she looks at a pocket watch in her hand. “Two hours to the big race. Chow o’ clock.” Cassandra grabs the white dish. Then frowns. “Eugene, did you eat all the bimberries?” She asked Rapunzel’s Boyfriend. “No! No, of course not.” He said as Valor noticed a purple stain on his teeth. “Then what’s that stain on your teeth then?” Eugene tried to hide his mouth. “Stain? What stain?”

Both Valor and Cassandra glare at him. Eugene looks at them. “Okay, so I ate some. I offered to split. Is that a big problem?” He asked. Laughing wryly. “Okay, well, let’s think.” Cassandra hands the empty dish to Valor. “If Gregorio doesn’t get his bimberries before the race, he’ll be lethargic, and if he doesn’t want to run, the Gopher Grab will be ruined, and I CAN’T HAVE THAT!” Cassandra shouts at him.

“So I’m gonna go with big problem?” Eugene said as Cassandra grabs his collar. “I’d say yes.” Valor said. “Find me some bimberries.. now.” Cassandra threatens him gritting her teeth. Eugene smiles showing the berry stains on his teeth. “Right, got it.” Eugene said making his way out of the tent. “I’ll go get you some dimberries. Be right back.”

Valor rolls her eyes. Then gasped. “Crap.. sorry Cass, but I got to go. I promised Varian I’d meet in an hour. I don’t want to be late.” Valor quickly said giving back the food dish. Cassandra sighed. “Your still friends with him?” Valor chuckles. “Yes.. and nothing going change that ever. Look I’ll catch up with you guys later.” Valor promise and left the tent.

Back at Monty’s Shop. Rapunzel was listening as Monty explaining the ribbons on the wall. “And I’m telling you, my great-grandad would have won the Gopher Grab that year, but he was running the wrong way!” As Monty finishes his story they both start to laugh.

“That Grab means a lot to you, huh?” Rapunzel said taking another jelly bean from the jar. “You know, Misty, I’ve never told this to anyone, but I feel like I can trust you.” Monty admits to Rapunzel. “I come from a long line of Gopher Grab champions.” Monty takes one of the chocolate Gophers.

“Oh, they used to say that our family had a gift for grab, and it was my dream to carry on our family tradition.” Monty explains but then looks down in sadness. “But no matter how hard I tried, that little rascal always managed to slip through my fingers...”

He looks over at the photos of the ribbons. “.And while I’ve admitted out loud before, sometimes, deep down..” he looks at he chocolate Gopher. “..I can’t help but feel ashamed.” Monty said as he sets the chocolate Gopher down.

Rapunzel rest her hand on his own. Monty looks over with smile. As the princess returns it. “But that’s enough of the weepies. Hey, I know. I’ve got just the thing to cheer us up.” Monty said grabbing Rapunzel’s hands. Causing Rapunzel to smile.

*SPLAT* As Monty three a tomato at Rapunzel well a statue of the princess. “Yes! Right in the royal kisser.” He said while laughing then throws it agin. Rapunzel laughs lightly. “Wow. You really don’t like the princess.” Rapunzle said clearly a bit shocked.

Monty reaches for another tomato. “Well, I wouldn’t say I don’t like her. But I would say I can’t stand her.” He throws the tomato in his hand. “Why?” Rapunzel asked exasperatedly but quickly counters her tone. “I mean why?”

She asked him a bit less like herself before he could catch on.

“You wanna know why I don’t like her?” Monty asked as he grabs another tomato from the bin. “I don’t like the princess because..” then the bell rings interrupting them.

Monty gasp, “it’s Gopher Grab time! Come on, Misty. Let’s go!” Monty took off. “Uh.. Sure you don’t wanna finish that sentence?” Rapunzel asked them hurried after Monty. “You know we could watch the Gopher Grab, but it’s also not too late to sign up.” Rapunzel said.

Wait. You mean you want me to compete?” Monty asked her. “Ah, trust me, Monty. Sometimes, you just gotta say the heck with it!” Rapunzel said confidently. “Maybe. But I couldn’t. No. I mean, I don’t even have a partner.” Monty said. “Well, guess what. You do now.” Monty smiles.

Cassandra pacing. The Gopher Grab was close to starting. “Did someone ask for dimberries?” Eugene asked entering the tent with berries. Cassandra quickly took the dimberries from Eugene. “You sure took your own sweet time getting them. Don’t you realize the Gopher Grab is about to Starr any minute now?” Cassandra asked him clearly irritated. *Sigh* “I hope these aren’t store-bought.” “Well, you know, for someone careless enough to leave poor Gregorio alone with somebody who would eat all his berries, your being really particular.” Eugene said only to have Cassandra not paying attention.

Cassandra knelt down holding out a dimberry to Gregorio. “Okay, Gregorio, time to eat.” She then began to fed him. “Oh, boy!” Gregorio began to chew slowly. “This could take a minute.”

Ladies and gentlemen, it is nearly time for this year’s Gopher Grab! The Announcer addresses  everyone outside the tent. Loud shouts and applauses rang out.

Cassandra gives him a concern look. “Hey, hey, don’t worry. I’ll handle it.” Eugene promised and ducked out of the tent. Unknown to Cassandra Gregorio’s eyes went wacky before turning normal once more.

Valor watches as everyone gathered about for the Gopher Grab. Varian wasn’t really paying attention which was fine by her. She didn’t quite understand this whole Gopher Grab. It was a weird festival.

Then she watches as Eugene emerges from the main tent. Then climbs onto a crate to address everyone. “Attention, ladies and gentlemen. I know we’re all anxious to see Gregorio the gopher do his thing. I know I am.” Eugene laughs. “But before we get started, I’d like to say a few words about the true meaning of goodwill.” Valor rolls her eyes and looking over to the main tent. ‘Hurry up Cass.'

“Okay, Gregorio, *sighs* time to, um, get ready. Cassandra said as forgot to get the dish away from the hungry Gopher. “Wow.” She laughs. “You are a little hungry guy, aren’t you?” Cassandra mange’s time take the dish and put him into the white carrier. Gregorio’s began bugging out more as she left.

Valor sighs in boredom. Eugene speech was boring yet he was nailing good points. “I mean, you gotta ask, yourself, ‘Am I spreading goodwill, or am I spreading good won’t’” Sound of the hate opening. Made her grin as Cassandra walks in with the Gopher. Varian who looks up briefly. His light blue eyes lit up.

Valor glances at him and rolls her eyes at him. She elbows him. “Don’t stare with that goofy look, it’s rude.” Valor hissed but went unanswered. Eugene quickly said goodbye and heads to the edge of the ring.

Cassandra made it to the others and holds up Gregorio’s pen. Loud cheers rang out. Cassandra then sets down the pen and moves back as the timer began whining down. All Gopher Grabers waited for the Gopher to emerge. As the doors open the referee blew the whistle.

Everyone looks about muttering. Valor made her way closer. Cassandra walked over and looks in. “What the..” then Gregorio rushes out. His eyes where spinning and he looked to be on a sugar rush. ‘Uh oh.'

Gregorio began racing about as all Grabers tried to Gregorio. “The Gopher’s gone mad!” Someone said. Soon loud cheers and clapping rang out with some stomping there feet. ‘Yeah this is too crazy.' Valor notes to herself.

Eugene was laughing. Valor climbs onto the edge of ring looking down at him. “Why are you laughing Eugene?” Valor asked him. “Oh boy!” Gregorio flew over them. “I laughing because you guys really undersold this whole Gopher Grab thing.” Eugene grabs handful of berries. “Want some?” He offered Valor who shakes her head no. “I’ll pass.” “I just don’t understand it. Why would Gregorio react to bimberries like this?” Cassandra asked.

Valor narrows her eyes as she watched the craz Gopher. “Hmm. I’ve seen this before. A rabbit once ate some once, and I had heck of time stopping it. What where those berries call again? Uh...” “Dimberries.” “Huh?” Valor looks down at him. “You two mean dimberries right?” Valor’s blue eyes widen. Along with Cassandra’s gray ones.

“Dim-what?” “No. Bimberries.”

“I thought you said.”

“Dimberries. No.”

“Wait. You mean.”

“What do you mean?”

“You’ve been talking about..”

“GUYS HEADS UP!” Valor shouts as the Gopher once more flew over the two bickering adults. Cassandra glares at Eugene. “These were supposed to be bimberries.” Cassandra said clearly frustrated with him.

“You know, for someone who was ceaseless enough to leave..” Gregorio flew over their heads again. Valor sighs watching them with a bored look. “Eugene did you know dimberries cause hyperactivity in rodents?” Valor asked.

“Uh.. yeah. Who doesn’t.” Cassandra glares at him. Valor rolls her eyes. And jumps down right as she spots. A short man and Rapunzel race off. Valor could just make out Gregorio ahead of them. “Well. This is one strange event for sure.”

Monty and Rapunzel where now in the forest looking for the rodent. “Look! Rapunzel shouts. *clears throat* “There.” They spot the dirt moving as Gregorio dug his way out. They followed after him as he broke free.

Monty and Rapunzel walked to the river bend. “Where did he go?” “Shh!” Monty hushed Rapunzel and points. They looked to see Gregorio on a set of rocks on the rushing river. The Gopher’s eyes were stills crazy. “All we gotta do now is hop.” “No, no, no, no, let’s take that bridge.” Rapunzel suggested a safer route. “We’ll catch him on the other side.” Rapunzel offered.

“Sorry, Misty. I can’t take that chance. I think you were right. Sometimes, you just gotta say to heck with it!” Monty said confidently and hurried off after the Gopher. “Monty!” Rapunzel shouts after him.

Monty walks over to the edge. Eyeing the Gopher. He leaps into one of rocks. Gregorio jumps to the next one. “Whoa.” He tried you keep his balanced but he miss-stepped and fell into the water. “Monty!”

As he merged he grabs the same rock Gregorio was on. “Forget about me.” The current began pulling him down stream. Letting go of the rock. “Get that gopher! No! No, don’t forget about me!” He tried to grab the rock again begging for his life. “I was trying to sound brave! It backfired!” He was being pulled to the bridge. “No!” He yells as he thrashed about.

Rapunzel races after him and climbs onto the bridge. She leans on the rails causing some of the pieces to break and fall. Rapunzel watches as they went over the edge of a waterfall. Monty yells  as he got closer. Reaching out she grabs his hand. Causing him to dangle over the edge.

Monty continues to panic and scream. “Hold on Monty. I’ve got you.” Rapunzel reissues him as he dangled over the edge. The bridge began to cracking under the weight.

Monty grasp on Rapunzel slipped. He screamed as he began to free fall. Acting quickly. Rapunzel jumps after him. Removing the wig she wraps her long golden hair around the bridge.

As he falls a he lands on a branch but then it too broke and as he fell this time. Rapunzel swooped through the mist catching Monty in mid air.  Using her hair they flew back up. Land ungrateful on the ground.

Monty removes part of the long hair away. “Princess Rapunzel?” Monty asked clearly shocked to see the Princess. “Hehe.. surprise.” Rapunzel nervously laughs.

Monty sits on a rock with disapproving look and shocked look."Your Majesty, you went through all of this just to win my favor?” He asked Rapunzel. As she finished tying back her 70 foot hair. “I know. I know it’s all a little crazy.” She removes the orange cloak/dress. Showing her actual clothes underneath. “But I just had to know why you booed me.” Rapunzel admits to him.

“Fine.” Monty complied. “You wanna know why I booed?” He asked her. “Uh-Huh. Uh-huh.” Rapunzel said eagerly. “The seal.” Monty said. “Wait. The Goodwill seal?” “Yes, the Goodwill seal.” He pulls it out of his pocket. “You redesigned a perfectly good seal.”

“I-I’m Sorry.” Rapunzel said. Clearly shocked that it was over something like this. “Since you’ve returned, everything’s changed. I mean come on! A royal in bare feet? Pub thugs in castle? The list goes on. It’s like you and your free spirit  have total disregard for tradition.” Monty explains to her.

Silence followed after his rant. Rapunzel gave a downcast look . “And than I realized that, well, maybe that spirit and to-heck-with-it attitude aren’t so bad after all.” Causing Rapunzel to perk up. “I mean you did inspire me to achieve my life’s dream.” He pulls back his apron pocket allowing Gregorio to pop up.

“See? I told you that with..”

“..But then.” He interprets her. “You put on this deceitful charade and made a complete fool of me!” Monty snaps at her. “Wait. So, are we friends again?” Rapunzel asked him. “Of course not. And we never will be. Because I don’t like you. Not everybody has to like everyone, Your Majesty.” Monty began walking off.

“You know what?” Monty stops walking. “Now that I’m thinking of it, I don’t think I like you so much either. No, no, wait. Wait. I know I don’t like you. “ Monty turns to face her. “Not friends ?” Rapunzel hold her hand out and smiles. “"Not friends.” They shake hands.

“All right. All right.” Valor stood within the crowd with Varian who was more interested in Cassandra who was on stage with Rapunzel and everyone else. “As you all know, the Gopher Grab is a sacred tradition.” King Fredric began. “So, blondie, you feeling okay about how you left things with Monty?” Eugene asked Rapunzel. “Yeah. I mean, you guys were right. I just had to accept that not everyone is gonna like me.”

Valor crosses her arms over her chest. A smile on her face. She was glad Rapunzel was able to learn from this. Even if there was an ethical way of doing it. “And the winner of this year’s Gopher Grab..” King Fredric opens the scroll. “..is good, old Uncle Monty!” Everyone began clapping and cheering as he walked up. As Rapunzle’s father gives him the ribbon. “Boo!” Rapunzel shouts shocking everyone.

“Come on Var, let’s go.” Valor said half dragging him away. Letting go of him she looks back to Rapunzel and smiles as they finished up the event. ‘This was a strange, but eventful day. Kind of glad I came. Maybe Corona isn’t cut and dry as I might think.‘

Chapter Text

“Okay, guys, wait for it.” Rapunzel said as she put a flower headband on. “How this?” The blonde haired princess asked her best friend and boyfriend striking a pose with a guitar and tilt of her head. “Hmm.. bohemian.” Cassandra said.

“Ugh.”

Quickly she ditches her look and grabs a bunch of books. “How’s this?'' she asked them. Rapunzel posed with fake glasses, a book in hand and stacked on her head.

“Way to uptight.”

“Mm-Hmm?”

“Too..”

“Lighten up, Cass. It’s just a painting.” Eugene said as he interrupted her train of thought. Cassandra turns to face him. “It’s more than just a painting, Eugene. This is the princess’s royal portrait.” Cassandra said as Rapunzel picks up a racket. “Uh. She’s right. I mean every one of these portraits says something about what made that particular king or queen unique.” Rapunzel explains to him.

“It’s tradition, and she’s gotta decide on her look soon.” Cassandra said. “The Giovani gets here in two days.” She hold up two fingers. “And what I hear, that guy is as famous for his temper as he is for his art.” Cassandra said.

“Well, look at this guy.” Eugene said drawing attention to the portrait next to him he tapped causing it to move. “He’s not doing anything and he seems pretty happy.” He said.

“What! Careful!” Cassandra said, quickly straightening the portrait. “These paintings are priceless, especially that one.” Cassandra tells him. “That’s the only known painting of Robin XI.”

“Wait.” Rapunzel pops up between her two friends. “This kingdom had 11 Robins?” The blonde princess asked. “Nope. Just this dude.” Cassandra said. “They called him Robin XI because the only thing interesting about him was that he had..” “..nine, ten, eleven fingers.” Rapunzel counts. “That’s right. I remember reading about him.” She said.

“Listen, Raps, if you’re trying to find your defying activity, don’t listen to this dud..” Cassandra jesters to Eugene. Who was tossing a half eaten apple, in his hand. “Whose whole work history is being a two-bit hood.”

“Ohh-hoo.” He laughs as he stops tossing the apple. “Two-but hood? Hold the pastry.” He said, putting his free hand up. “I’ll have you known, Cassandra, Flynn Rider was a legende.” He argues. Laughing. “Key word “was."” Cassandra sarcastically said. “And what is it you do now?” She asked him with a smug look.

“I..uh.. I do many things.” Eugene said. “You know important things. So important you wouldn’t understand them. Sometimes, I don’t even understand them. Tell her, Blondie.” Eugene ended up saying.

Both Eugene and Cassandra look towards Rapunzel. Who wasn’t even paying any attention to them what’s so ever. Instead, she was in thought while Pascal jumps on the racket. His body changed colors as he bounced.

“Hmm.. what?” She asked, realizing they were looking at her. Eugene and Cassandra looked at each.

Eugene left Rapunzel and Cassandra to tackle the portrait. Now he made his way to the Snuggly Duckling. In hopes maybe his friends could be some help. Leaving Max outside he made his way into the pub.

“Oh. Can you believe that Cassandra?” Eugene scoffs. “Two-but hood?” Eugene began pacing and ranting to them. Ulf, Big Nose, Hook Foot and Shorty were playing cards. “She acts like the only thing I’ve ever been good at are lying, cheating and stealing.” He lists the list off his hand. “Which, in fairness I am very good at.” He said proudly.

“Hmm.” They all looked at him with a shared expression. “So you guys agree with Cassandra?” Eugene asked, his voice slightly cracks. “What. Whoa. We don’t.. agree with her.” Big Nose quickly said trying to clear things up. “We’ve simply arrived at a.. Well, um, nearly identical assessment is all.” He finally said.

“Oh, okay.. okay, I see how it is.” Eugene said clearly starting to feel a bit irritated. Everyone was thinking the same thing. “You know, I am capable of being more than a handsome, devilish-may- care rouge. In fact!” He points at them. “I can be handsome devilish-may-care anything I want!” Eugene declares.

“Maybe I’ll just have to find a way to prove it. Boys, Eugene Fitzherbert is gonna find his new calling.” Eugene looks at everyone who was engrossed back into the game.

“Hmm.”

“Does no one in this kingdom have an attention span? Come on!” Eugene said as he left the hub.

Eugene looks at the job board. Scanning it trying to find a job. So he went to work. Grabbing one flyer he headed to the bakery. The baker took down the help needed sign. Too bad this wasn’t his calling. The oven smoked as Eugene leaned on the wall proudly. “Well, you said bake the pie at 300 degrees for an hour, but I figured save time and do 600 degrees for a half hour.” The baker opens the oven and with that Eugene was fired.

He went back to the board and took the next job. An old lady waited for the wagon to come. Waving Eugene down. Eugene stops to help her up. “Thank you.” She said.

“Hyah!”

As Eugene quickly pulls up to a house. The woman staggered out. Valor watches with confused and shocked icy blue eyes as he dashed away. “This is not my house.” She said.

Sighing Valor walks over to her. “Would you like a ride home, and don’t worry I won’t go fast.” Valor offered her. The old woman looks over at her. “That’s very kind of you.” She said.

Valor let’s herself shift forms. The woman blinks in shock as she lowers herself down letting her belly touch the ground. Fixing the woman with silver wary eyes. It didn’t take long for her to climb up. Slowly she stood. “Whoa.” The woman. Valor whines. “Don’t worry I’m fine.” She said to the young werewolf. Then they began their track to her house. Valor following the directions to a T.

Careful the wolf lowered herself down to the ground and let the woman slide off her back. Shifting back to a human. “Thank you so much.” She said .

Valor smiles. “No problem. Sorry about that guy from earlier. I think he’s suffering from a midlife career crisis.” Valor apologies to her. The woman thanks her once more. ‘I better find out what’s going on.'

Eugene kept on trying different jobs. Each one he failed at. Next was shoe making. Which was okay until the owner threw him out just because of what he did in the past.

This was proving a lot harder than he had thought. So Eugene made his way back to the castle.

Pascal yawns and curls up in the sun. But beg the chameleon could get any peace. The door burst open. As Eugene walks in. “Who knew having a job would be so much work?” He sighs as he plops onto the chair. “I mean, what with all those rules and responsibilities...” “..that’s how a job works Eugene.” Valor said.

Eugene looks over to see the black haired teen standing there. A bit of annoyance ticking off her. “When did you get here Wolfe?” Eugene asked her. “Well, after you drop that old woman off near Old Corona. I had to complete your job for ya. Honestly what’s with you?” She asked him.

“What’s up, Cassandra is what’s up. She thinks I nothing more than a handsome devilish-may-care rouge.” “She’s right.” “What do you agree with her?” Valor rolls her eyes. “Yesss. I just saw it first hand.” “Well, you should have heard some of these guys I worked for. It’s like, “Hey, buddy, who died and made you boss?”

Valor shakes her head. “Oh, come on. They’re doing their job. And they are the boss.” She points out. “So it is there job.” Eugene sighs. “Maybe Cassandra is right. Ugh! Just saying those words sent bile into my mouth, down the throat.. oh, that’s..” he shutters. “Yuck!”

Valor chuckles as she walks over to him. “You know maybe you should try something you’d be good at.” She offered sitting down next to Pascal. “What I’m good at is being a thief.” “Maybe. But have you ever need to put those skills to good then use?” Valor asked. “Like what?” He asked. “Hmm. I don’t know. But maybe there’s way to find out.” Just then a shot rang out from below causing them to look out the window.

“Thief! Stop! Thief!” The woman shouted. “There!” Valor points out to the man running through the forward. “I know where he’s going.” Eugene said. “I know where he’s going!” Then let’s go!” Valor said, turning to leave. “Wait. You’re coming?” Valor grins. “Of course. I want to help.” She said with a toothy grin. “Alrighty then, follow my lead.” They both dashed off.

The thief kept moving. As the guards chased after him. “Guys, he’s head for the docks!” Eugene said as he and Valor raced over the guards. “Well handle this. And besides, he ran in the opposite direction, genius!” The Captain said then ran off towards the direction the thief went. “No one calls me genius and gets away with it, come on Wolfe follow me.” He said.

Chapter Text

The thief ran towards the dock. He was nearly home free. Valor grins her silver eyes glowed the moment the thief looks back. Valor shifts into her wolf form. The man screams in fear as she growls at him. Valor took a few steps towards, causing him to stagger backwards. Eugene sticks a foot out and trips him up.

The thief quickly turns around as Eugene appears. As he glances behind to see the huge black wolf walking towards him. Valor bared her teeth. Her silver eyes locked with Eugene she twitches her ear. Smiling Eugene snags the dagger and with a quick swipe cuts the rope.

A single fish hit him in the head. The thief gave a shocked look as the rest fell onto him along with the net. Valor howls with laughter as she and Eugene walk over. Valor shifts back. “Nice work!” She praises him. Her icy blue eyes glowed. “Pst.. amateur.”

Valor looks at the man smiling. “What are you?” Valor knelt down. “Werewolf.” The thief stared in shock. Then the captain’s voice rang out. “Valor! Rider!” She looks up to see him walking up with the others. “What are you two doing here?” He asked.

“Well Captain.” Eugene said. His confidence flaring up. “I don’t want to say we I.. er we did your job for you, but I just did your job for you.” Valor shakes her head. “It was the old distract-and-run-to-the-dock-to-catch-the-last-ferry tactic.” Eugene said.

“He’s right Captain. You should thank him.” Valor joins them. “I know that trick because Invited it. So, you’re welcome, come on Wolfe let’s go.” He said walking off. Valor grins and waves to them before following after. She glances at Eugene who still wore a confident smirk.

“I don’t believe it. Flynn Rider on the side of law and order.” Stan said. Eugene stops in his tracks. Then his face lit up. “Eu-gene?” Valor asked him. ‘Oh, no, what have I gotten myself into?'

“You’re are gonna be Royal Guards?” Valor  frowns looking around the room. ‘What’s with everything?'  “It makes total sense, right?  I tried having a normal job, but I’m not great with authority. Being a guard I am the authority.” Eugene said. “Plus I look great in a uniform.” Valor shakes her head at him. “So, Raps, What with everything?” She asks.

All around the princess were so many things. Paint, guitar a glob, etc. “What’s with all this stuff Blondie?” Eugene jumps in realizing the clutter.

Rapunzel sighs. “I was having a lot of trouble picking just one interest for my portrait, and then it hit me. I’ll pose doing all of them, right?” Valor looks about. “What do you think?” She asked. Eugene looks over to Pascal. “Pascal?” He asks the chameleon. Pascal croaks. “Maybe not your best idea, but, but I heard the worst.” Valor sighs. “Look, Raps. I am not too sure on what’s going on here, but don’t get carried away.”

“Like you becoming a Royal Guard?” Cassandra said to Eugene while leaning on the door. “H-How long have you been standing there?” Eugene stammers. Valor looks over to Cassandra and groves her friendly smile.

“Hey, Cass. Looks like you got the memo.” Valor said. “Yep, news travels fast. And to answer your question Fitzherbert. Long enough to know you’re about to make a fool of yourself. You really think you have what it takes to be a guard?” Cassandra ask him.

“Hmm. Let me think.” Valor crosses her arms. ‘Here they go again.'  “Superior athletic ability,  razor-sharp acumen, impressive stature, making guards all around the world, including Corona, look like bozos for decades.” He listed. “Yeah, I think I can swing it.” Eugene confidently concluded.

“You wanna know what I think?”

“That I care what you think?” He laughs. “Let me save you the trouble. I don’t.” Valor rolls her eyes. “Eugene, are you sure about this? Being a guard isn’t the same as being a thief.” Valor points out. “Of course! It will be easy.”

“You know what I bet. You don’t even make it past basic training.” Cassandra said. Eugene scoffs. “Training? What is school like? I was great in school. Easiest three days of my life. Who’s the teacher anyways?” Eugene asked. “My dad.” Eugene gave a slack jaw look. Valor blinks and looks over at him. ‘Huh, looks like this became more interesting.'

Chapter Text

“All right, maggots, line up!” The Captain shouts. Everyone quickly lined up. Valor, Max and Cassandra sat watching. Valor was glad she was too young to be part of the Royal Guard or do any real work still. Plus part of her wanted to see if Eugene would actually pull this off.

“This boot camp will push you to your very limits. By the time I’m through with you’ll be sweating tears and crying sweats. But if you make it through camp and pass the final exam..” a yawn made the Valor look over to see Shorty standing in line. ‘Why is he even here?' Yet the Captain laughs. “And same with you, that’s highly unlikely if, you’ll revive probationary trainee status.” He said walking past them again.

“Shorty? What are you doing here?” Eugene hissed. “Sorry is this the line to the restroom?” He asked tiredly. “Well, well, looks like we got ourselves some aces in the mix.” He said coming to stand in front of Eugene. “Captain, sir, I know we’ve had our differences, but I’d just like to say..”

“Quiet maggot!”

Valor winces at the man he had a loud voice. “You are a loathsome pathetic excuse for a human being, and it’s my full intention to make your life a living nightmare.” The Captain threatens. '‘Is this his attempt to act threatening?'

“You know, I’ve never said this to another man, but you have handsome teeth.” Valor groans face-palming. “He’s a goner.” She mutters. Loud enough for Max and Cassandra to hear.

“All right, men. Your goal is to get over the wall. When I blow this whistle you go.” The Captain said. “Now line up maggots!” He orders.

Once they were all lined up he blew the whistle. Valor winces rubbing her ears. A loud ring followed. With that the first person went. He fell and the other one followed.

Valor whines covering her ears and tightly closing her eyes. A sharp dull thud followed. Cassandra looks over at her with concern. “I-I’m fine. I just have really sensitive hearing.” Valor said reopening her eyes. ‘Stupid whistle. Stupid Headache.' She thought as they managed to tune back in, in time to see Eunge scale the first wall with ease. Using the others to boost him up.

Valor had to admit he did have some skills. ‘As long as he uses what he’s used before he should be fine.' She noted, but the Captain wasn’t;t having it and blew his whole again. Valor winces at the sharp sound. “Maybe you should go.” Cassandra said. Valor shook her head. “No, I am good. It’s not too loud that I can’t manage.” Valor promised. ‘Just wish I knew how to keep this headache in check more.'

The next thing the Captain had everyone doing was push ups. Everyone but Eugene looked to be struggling. He was confidently doing them with one arm. “Hph. I can do that.” Cassandra said. “Same, that’s easy. Though your dad doesn’t look to pleased.” Valor notes seeing the glare. Leaning on her hand she sighs. “Eugene is way over his head here.”

Next up, the Captain gave everyone a crossbow and instructions. Shot the bad guys and not the Royals. Eugene was up now. Moving swiftly through the course. As the targets popped up. With great accuracy he hit them all square in the head. Leaving Cassandra, Valor and Max staring at him in aw. “Now that cool.” Valor smirks.

A with a slight of foot. Valor narrowed her eyes as the Captain set up a tripwire. As Eugene walks by he trips. “Whoa.” The crossbow goes off nailing the wooden king dummy. The Captain broke off laughing at him. “Crossbow procedure number one, Rider. Always keep the safety on.”

The three bystanders glares at him. “He did that in purpose.” Valor growls. Max nickers. Cassandra looked tricked. ‘Something tells me she dealt with his antics before.' Valor thought as the test continued.

As the basic training went on. Valor watches as the Captain made it harder and harder on Eugene. He still couldn’t scale the huge wall. The Captain made one of his soldiers sit on his back while doing push ups. ‘This is getting ridiculous.' Valor thought. The Captain was looking very pleased with himself too.

As Eugene finally made it to the top of the wall. He was out of breath. Yet as he jumps down. He lands on a level. Which in turn the the Castle Guard who was the same man who sat on him while doing push ups jumps in the other end sending him flying backwards. Causing him to get his shirt hooked on the wall.

Valor, Cassandra and Max glares at the men who were laughing at Eugene. “That’s not funny!” Valor barks loudly causing everyone even the Captain to jump. Jumping up from where she sat. Valor shifts into her wolf form. Quickly she managed to scale the wall. Leaving everyone to blink in shock. “This getting out of hand.” Valor growls in anger.

“Here to gloat?” Eugene huffed. Valor narrowed her silver eyes at him. “If I was here to gloat, then why am I helping?” Valor leans down unhooking him. “Why do people young and old have act like children?” Once Eugene was free she jumps back down with him. Valor glares at the Captain who’s shock expression vanished into irritation.

Chapter Text

“All right Pascal, I think this evening.” Rapunzel said putting a flower into a pot. “Okay we’re gonna be more than ready for Giovanni tomorrow morning.” Rapunzel sighs in relief. Soon both piles of books and stuff fall. “Darling, is everything okay?” Ariana asks her daughter. Rapunzel lifts up a bowl. Her mother laughs. “Let me guess. Your portrait? Let me show you something.” Rapunzel got up and followed after her.

Entering a room. Ariana pulls out a painting she kept covered. Pulling off the sheet. “Oh.”

Rapunzel giggles. “Sorry. Mom, come on. It’s just..” the portrait of her mother. It was wacky and unorganized. Rapunzel sighs, “horrible.” “Horrible? Yes, horrible. It’s horrible.” The Queen laughs. “My point is, we’re not always defined by the things we can do, Rapunzel, but rather by the people we are. That’s what your portrait should communicate.”

Pascal climbs onto her shoulder. He looks over and croaks. Causing her to laugh. “I know. I know. Don’t be so smug, Pascal.” She said.

Eugene sat in the room. After the whole day of training he was whipped. “Man, you look like something a cat dragged in.” Valor said as she and Cassandra appeared at the door. Eugene looks over at them. “Oh, really? Thanak.” He sarcastically replies. “So than you ready to give up?” Cassandra asked him.

“Oh, you’d love that, wouldn’t you?” He laughs wryly. “Honestly. I don’t care.” Cassandra said leaning on the door frame.

“Look, it doesn’t matter anyways, okay? “But, Eugene..” “No, because matter how hard I try on that final tomorrow, your dad will cook up some cheap shot to make sure I fail. He wants me out, end of story.” Eugene said.

Valor sighs as she and turn to leave. “You know. For someone who has spent most of his life breaking the rules to get what he wants, yourw having an awful lot of trouble dealing with someone who is breaking the rules to get what he wants.” Cassandra said. Valor blinks and smiles. “Come Val.” Cassandra said.

Valor looks to Eugene. “She’s right Eugene. I’ve seen you do crazy things and they’re weren’t from following the rules. Be who you are not what you’re not. Prove him and anyone else like him wrong.” Valor waves and walks off, leaving Eugene to figure everything out.

By dawn. All the trainees where accounted for. Even Shorty who was snoring away. As Valor yawns she greets Cassandra but frowns. “Where’s Eugene?” She asked sitting down next to her and Max. “I don’t know.” Cassandra said. Valor yawns and stretches her arms. “H-hope he shows soon.” She said before fishing around her bag. Cassandra takes her eyes off her dada and the others to see Valor pull out a pouch. The black haired teen pulls out some berries and pops a few into her mouth.

“Listen up! The rules are simple.” The three friends attention was back on the trainees and the Captain. “Obstacle course. Whistle.” Valor glares at it. “Complete the course before the whistle is blows. Is that clear?” He asked them.

“Actually sir, can you go through that one once more?” Eugene asks taking his place in line. Valor noted something was different. She grins wildly. “This is going be fun.” She said while Max knickers his agreement.

As the Captain turns to face him, Eugene went on. “It’s just by brain is so use to tuning your voice out that I.” “..Line up Rider.” He orders. “I can’t believe you made it this far. But I’m glad you did. Because I made this course especially difficult, just.. for.. you.” The Captain threatens him. “I’m touched.” Valor chuckles as Eugene hugs the Captain who didn’t looked so pleased by it.  “Get off me!” He removes Eugene from his chest. “Go!” He orders.

Everyone took off. Making their way through the obstacle course.  The Captain steps over Shorty and turns over an hour glass. Valor raises an eyebrow watching.

As they went through the course. Raced through mud. The man behind Eugene got caught in a net. Next they had to avoid getting hit. Which again Eugene made it through. Valor and the others were cheering him on. Valor knew even if Cassandra didn’t want to admit. She too was rooting for Eugene to win as well.

As Eugene made it to the huge wall. Valor leans forward. “What’s your plan?” She whispered. Than Eugene pulls out ya bows and leaps. Using them an anchors. He quick climbs the wall. Valor grins. Now this was the Eugene she meet back before they became friends.

He made it over. And managed to avoid the leveler. Jumping off seconds before the guard before him could send him flying. He was going it almost home free. “Come on, Eugene.” Valor said. “Come on.”

As he reached the end. The guards lined up. Ready to stop him. Yet nimbly he skids under their legs. He even snatched the belt from Stan. Now he was at the line but stops. “Almost forgot something.” Causing
Valor, Cassandra and Max to look at him in bewilderment. “Uh? What’s he doing?” Cassandra asked. Valor shrugs in response. “It’s Eugene, you never know.”

Eugene made his way to Shorty. Then picks him up like a sack of potatoes. He places him over his head. “Someone had to make this challenging.” Eugene then sniffs. “Oh. You never did find the me’s room, did you Short?” Valor gags. As she realized what was going on. “Man glad I’m here. Though, I can smell something fowl.” Valor said. The whole time she was so keen on the things going on, she nearly forgotten her other senses.

Eugene was racing back to the finish line with Shorty on his back. The Captain looks at the hour glass and his face lights up seeing it nearing the end. Right before Eugene could cross. “You lose!” The Captain shouts out. Laughing but as he pats his neck. He quickly realized. “Where’s my..?” Valor covers her ears as Eugene blows the whistle.

“Complete the course before the whistle blows, right? Look at that. I can follow rules.” He said tossing the whistle back to the Captain. “I’ll take a medium uniform, sir athletic fit.” The others cheered for him. He had done it. Proven himself worthy.

Chapter Text

As Stan and Pete stood guard as Giovanni walked up. “Pete look alive. This must be the guy. Look at him.” Stan said. “Mister, uh, The Giovanni. The John-vanni.. Johnny-Johnny. Johnny welcome!” Stan said opening the door for him.

“Coran is happy to have you.” He said. “Yeah, well, at least someone is happy.” Giovanni said walking past them. “Now, where’s Princess come si chiama?” She’ll be here shortly.”
Pete informs him. “The Giovanni, he don’t like to wait.” He said. “Now leave me here.” He dismisses them. “Ah. Maybe The Giovanni he learn something.. by studding how not to paint.” They shut the door behind them.

Eugene pulls on his new uniform. Happy and pleased with himself. Valor had stuck around afterworlds. Part of her wanted see if Eugene would truly cut it or not.

Soon Eugene confidently strode into the room. “Hey! Nice!” He said walking towards the Captain. “Reporting for duty Cap.” Eugene salutes. “What do you got, huh?” He asked with a chuckle. “Bad guys to be nabbed? Mysteries to be solved? I’m ready for anything.” Eugene said. Captain gave a smirk as an idea pops into his head.

“Dungeon duty. Great.” Eugene said. As he and the Captain stood in the dungeon. Valor tagged along. “This your post. That main entrance is to remain locked at all times. You are to patrol this entire block every five minutes. Do you understand?”

“Well looks like you one prisoner. So it should be easy.” Valor notes. “What! Really Cap, only one prisoner?” Eugene said. “Do you understand?” The Captain repeats.

“Yeah, but I just thought, you know, given my skill set, it would make more sense for me to be running and jumping.” “You’re not being paid to think, Rider. Every five minutes.” Captain turns to leave. “Well, good luck Eugene. You’ll need it.” “Wait your not staying?” “No, I’m wanna to  see what’s up withRapunzel before heading back to Old Corona.” With that she waved goodbye to Eugene and leaves.

“So, he’s a famous painter?” Valor asks. “Yeah, Royal has had their portrait done by him, expressing what makes each queen or king unique.” Rapunzel explains. “I see, what explains the mess. Though, it looks like you made up your mind.” “Yes. And you don’t have to come with me.” Valor shrugs. “I kind of want to see what he can do for myself.”

Giovanni stood at a easel, as Rapunzel and Valor walks into the room. “Hey, it’s about time!” He said. “Sorry, The Giovanni, I was, um..” “The Giovanni, he doesn’t care! Now, how you wanna look?” He asks Rapunzel. Valor steps to the side.

“Oh, um. I thought that I would keep it simple.” Rapunzel states. “Huh? She gonna pose with nothing?” Then he said something in Italian and hits his forehead. Before shouting. “Don’t blame The Giovanni when the painting, she’s no good.” He said. ‘What with him?'

“Oh. Okay.” Rapunzel said. “I definitely won’t.” She promised. But before The Giovanni could start. The door slams open. “The Giovanni. Can I call you The? You’re the best.” Eugene said entering the room. “Hey, Blondie, I see you went with the simple choice of beautiful.” Eugene said.

“Aw! Thank you.” Rapunzel said. “At least someone thinks so. Wait. What are you doing here?” Rapunzel quickly ask him. “Valor and Cass said you had dungeon duty.” She asked him. “Oh, I do. The Cap told me to walk the block once every five minutes, but it, just seemed like a waste standing there. So, I walked it twice in a row, and now I can take a 10-minute break. Math.” He taps his head.

“Yeah, uh, I don’t think that’s right.” Rapunzel said. “Oh, no, no, trust me, Blondie. I worked it out in the old brainium.” “No, you need to redo that math calculation. Because that’s not how you do it.” “Huh? I’m sure I’m right. I did go to school.” “Yeah, three days!”

The Giovanni  grumbles in annoyance. “You go now!” He shouts to Eugene before saying something in Italian. “What did you say?” Eugene asked. ‘Wait? Eugene understands him?'

He continues for a bit. “I can no concentrate.” He walks off. “Rider, where are you?” Valor hears the  Captain shout outs. Rug even heard him. “You better go, looks like Captain needs ya.” Valor said with a grin. “Right then duty calls.” Eugene said and quickly leaves.

“He escaped!” Eugene said. As they stood in front of the open cell. “How?” The Captain clearly wasn’t happy with him. “Apparently, someone didn’t follow regulations and left the main door unlocked, so they could go and visit their girlfriend.” Captain said. “Gah! Math!” “And because of your delinquency, the prisoner was able to seize the opportunity to pick his cell lock and escape!” The Captain slams the door closed.

“Uh, I know this look bad.” Eugene started. “You bet it does. Turn in your helmet and shield, hotshot. You’re off the Guard.”

“Aw, I should have just done what I was asked. So stupid!” Eugene said as he and Shorty made his way through the hall. Shorty sniffs a yam the holds it towards Eugene. “Why don’t you drown your sorrows in a yam?” “Uh, thanks, buddy, but I filled up on yams earlier.” He tells him.

So Shorty took his yam back. “Who wants to be a guard anyway? Right? All those responsibilities and rules.  Plus the Captain is a total..” *thud* “Whoa.” He said as someone ran into him. So sorry, the Giovanni. Let me help.”  Eugene offers reaching out to take the object he had dropped.

But the Giovanni quickly snatched it back. And says something in Italian once agin. “Watch where you’re going!” Then he hurried off. “Something smells fishy.” Eugene said. “That would be me.” Shorty pulls a fish from his clothes. Eugene smiles at him.

“You know, Rap, you could have done better.” Valor said as the girls looked at the painting the Giovanni painted. ‘This doesn’t look like a famous painter’s work. It looks like painting a child would do.' “Hey, Blondie, Wolfe. Portrait done already. That’s great.” Eugene walks over acting cheerful. ‘Captain must have fires him why else would he act like this.' “That was quick. How do it turn out.. holy horribleness!” Eugene said seeing the painting for the first time.

“I don’t know. I don’t get it. It’s just.. mmm.  Really bad. Right?” Rapunzel said. “Well, not really. Young children paint like that. But someone who’s world known for his painting. Yep it’s terrible.” Valor said. “I could do bet...” Eugene looks up to the painting in front to the one hanging. Eugene gasped. “Eugene? What’s..” “I got to go see the Captain!” He said running off. “Hey, wait up! Bye Rapunzel see ya around.” Valor said and ran after him.

“I’ll explain once we get there.” He promise. Valor nods in agreement. “Okay.”

Eugene slams his ah s down in front of the Captain. Cassandra stood behind him. “Look, Cap, I know I’m not in your good side, but the portrait of Robin XI has been stolen.” He declared.

“No, it hasn’t. You want to know why it hasn’t? Because my men can adhere to procedures. Procedure dictates that the gallery be patrolled every five minutes.” Captain said.

“Stan? Pete?” He asks looking at them. Valor glances at Shorty. ‘How is he even part of the Guard still?' “Um, sorry Eugene. We just checked two seconds before you arrived. Everything was fine.” Pete said.

“But it’s a counterfeit!”

“Enough!” The Captain slams his fist down. Get lost before I lock you up.” Eugene and party turns to leave. Valor glances back to see Cassandra meeting her gaze. ‘She believed him?'

“Come on, Wolfe, Shorty. We’re just gonna have to stop him on our own.” “Not totally on your own.” They turned to see Cassandra behind them. “Cassandra? You believe me?” Eugene asked her astonished by this. “You maybe an arrogant, self-centered, inconsiderate..”

“poorly dressed.”

“..bloviating.”

“Tremendous.”

“Waste of space.”

“Wind bag.”

“Okay, okay, can we just cut to the “but” in this sentence?” Eugene asked. “But, I’m guessing you didn’t become a legend by not trusting your gut. So if you say something is not right.” Cassandra reluctantly states. “I might believe it.”

“Cass, I..”

“..Plus if you are wrong and fall on your face, I’ll be one of the first to see it.”

“I can work with that. Okay. Come on. I think I know where he’s heading.” Eugene said taking the lead.

“Uh.. wait what are we doing again?” Shorty said. Valor laughs. “Let me fill ya in.”

Back with the Captain. He quick found out Eugene was telling the truth. When his soldiers brought in the real the Giovanni. And the painting was counterfeited. Know I Eugene was right rubbed him the wrong way.

They raced towards the docks. Valor could see the imposter ahead of them. “He’s going to try to catch the last ferry out of Corona.”

The imposter quickly climbs into the last boat. They speed up. As they drew closer to the end. Valor found herself trying to stop. Max soars over landing on the boat. Next thing Valor knew she was accidentally knocked into the water. The wolf swam up hooking her claws to the dock. Fildia knickers. Looking she spots m Cassandra holding Shorty.

The girls shifts back to human. Coughing she pulls herself up along with Cassandra and Shorty. “I.. hate the water.” Valor said moving further away from the edge. It was up to Max and Eugene to catch him.

Eugene and Max broke apart. Each one searching for the thief. As Eugene turns the corner the thief elbows him. This caused Eugene to drop the crossbow. Quickly the thief picks it up. And points it at Eugene. “Arrivederic, baby. I means goodbye.” Then pulls the trigger. “Huh?” Nothing followed.

“Crossbow procedure number one m. Always keep the safety on.” Then Max  appeared kicking him. Sending him and the stolen portrait flying. “On it!” Eugene said running after the portrait. Grabbing a rope he swung catching the before it hit the water. “Yeah! Baby!” He said landing back on the ship.

Valor yelps watching them from afar. “Looks like they are turning around.” Cassandra said.
Valor looks to see the Captain, Stan and Pete walking up as the ship pulls back into port.

Max hands the thief back to the Castle Guards, as Eugene went to talk with the Captain. “See, I knew something was up when he cursed me out. His Italian was terrible.” He laughs. “Subject-verb agreement was way off.” He said. “What I speak Italian. They had stud it steal in Italy too you know.” “Hm must be handy. I know how to read Latin but nothing more.” Valor said. “I could teach ya.” Eugene offered. Valor shook her head. “Thanks but I’m good.”

“Anyways the rest was easy to figure out. You see, you gotta think like crook in order to catch one. You just can’t teach that m, Cap.” Eugene said giving the Captain a pat on the shoulder.

“Perhaps I acted precisely when I dismissed you, Rider.” Captain admits. “Ah, let me guess. You want me to join the Guard again. Well I’m flattered, but..” “..Oh, no.” He laughs. “Heavens, no! Your a terrible guard, Rider. But I do have something else in mind.”

Valor smiles as she looks between them. It was good seeing them finally come to a neutral respect for each other. ‘Who knows one day maybe Eugene might end up becoming a great leader yet.'

“Hey, Wolfe we’re heading back now, would you like Max and me to escort you to Old Corona?” Eugene asked. Valor walks over to him. “Thanks, but I can manage. I have to make a stop by Xavier’s first to pick something up. Which means I gotta go. See you guys around.” She waves and runs off.
