3rd person POV: Abby
Abby was sitting in her seat along with the other girls waiting for Elizabeth Proctor to be brought in, she would look forward to when she sees Elizabeth hanging from the noose . Abby looked up when Elizabeth walked into the courtroom and their eyes met for a fraction of a second. Abby’s gut clenched seeing her for the first time that day, her heart, felt as if it was gaping, her hands were clammy . She didn’t understand what was going on.
Elizabeth looked grim , her normally perfectly pulled back salt and pepper hair was slightly out of place, a small yet noticeable detail. The aging was clear upon her weary face, she retained an exhausted look. However through the weariness and lines beneath her eyes, she seemed almost radiant; soft, her guard although up did not seem hostile. Oh how Abigail hated her, Even while she was in danger of being convicted and hanged she still looked calm.
The meeting house was dimly lit, a soft glow upon which Abigail looked out over the place. The soft morning glow coming through the windows, the wound where the needle had been pierced through her belly ached, the area around it red and raw. A cough next to her brought her attention back to court. The damp air seemed to thicken with anticipation, whether it was good or bad was up for debate.
The strange sensation only lasted for a second or so but it was unwanted , she can’t quite remember a time where she felt like this but she wasn’t going to let that weird, almost unnatural feeling get in the way of getting rid of Elizabeth. Once Elizabeth is gone Abby will be able to take her place, she’ll comfort John and warm her way into his life, and consequently also his bed. But for now she will have to be content with waiting.
3rd Person POV: Elizabeth
Elizabeth felt a set of eyes on her, looking her over. Moving her head up, her eyes locked into Abigail’s own. She noticed a strange look pass over Abby’s face before quickly disappearing, Elizabeth couldn’t quite decipher the expression Abby wore however it seemed akin to guilt? Shaking her head Elizabeth tried to forget the look. There was no way that Abby was feeling guilty, she’s seen the looks that Abigail gave John when she thought no one was paying her any mind.
Besides Abigail had framed her for attempted murder, it wasn’t as if there was any other reason besides Abby wanting John and hating Elizabeth for being his wife, that hatred Abby has towards her was enough for Elizabeth to not like her. Elizabeth looked around the “courtroom”; it was a square room, previously used for town meetings, where a table was set up in the North side for the judges. The girls were set up near the east side of the room, behind the judges were two large windows where the morning sun shone through, softly illuminating the large room.
When Elizabeth glanced over at Abigail she noticed her with a somewhat glazed over look, unfocused as if her head was currently occupied and unable to pay attention to her surroundings. Abigail seemed to snap out of her trance when one of the girls uttered some words, Elizabeth couldn’t make out what was said however it seemed as if it was directed at Abigail.
3rd Person POV: Abby
Mercy Lewis called Abby’s name three times before getting her attention, “What’s on your mind, Abby?” “Nothing Mercy let it go” the moment Abby had lost eye contact with Elizabeth her mind had gone somewhere else, completely without her permission, she looked forward in her seat. As court began she locked the strange feeling far away in her mind, in a corner far, far away to never be remembered ever again.
