Chapter Text
The Time Doesn’t Matter.
Sunny stood in front of Basil’s bed, with everybody facing him. Sunny had just told the truth, and he felt terrible. He couldn’t bare to look at any of them right now, as he heard a few gasps and a bit of uncommon silence from some people. Aubrey began to yell, however somebody hushed her. Sunny wasn't sure who it was, but he didnt care right now. He couldn’t even bother to look at Basil either, Even if he could feel him staring holes into his head. He didn’t expect to feel this bad when he told the truth. He could feel a presence behind him starting to fester as the silence started to grow deafening. Sunny couldn’t breathe. He needed air. He needed air. He knew where to get air.
Hero: “Sunny…i…”
Sunny took a step back, and felt his back press against the door. They were staring at him, questioning what he was doing. The room felt so cold, he could barely stand it. Aubrey began to walk over to him.
Sunny is Afraid!
Sunny took another step back, and the door slightly opened. He stared down at the ground, watching as Aubrey’s shadow slowly moved closer and closer to him. Her footsteps were out of line, he assumed she could barely walk as she was filled with anger. He didn’t blame her at all, who wouldn’t be upset right now? Sunny’s stomach was turning, the pool in his stomach feeling like it was about to rip through him. He clenched his fist hard by his side, his nails digging into his palm. He saw Aubrey’s hand lift up, and with that, he backed out of the door and slammed it shut behind him.
Unconsciously, Sunny began to run up the hospital stairs with a mix of fear and adrenaline running through his veins. His eye was bleeding again, and so were the wounds on his legs. However he didn't care right now, he needed to get some air. He would rather not suffocate on a staircase. He didn't want to fall down and get hurt. Thankfully the doors to the roof weren't that far away, so he could surely make it. He rounded the corner on the last stairway up, and pressed through the doorway, revealing the rooftop
The roof was smaller than what he expected. It was a small square, with a railing surrounding the edge. A small piece of the railing was broken, it was facing towards the street, on display for everyone who looked up. Sunny can’t help but look at the edge as it seems almost…enticing. However he cast that thought away, he came this far, he wasn't going away. Sunny walked up the edge, and slowly crouched down.
He plopped down on his butt at the edge, his legs hanging off the edge. The frigid air began to make Sunny shiver. Hospital gowns were not really warm, especially since he was only in his boxer and the gown. Maybe Sunny should have waited a bit longer before he told the truth. He let out a forced laugh as he felt the blood from his legs start dripping down the building. Ironic, guess it makes sense that he would still be bleeding, after all he did rip open the wounds from him running up the stairs.
Sunny turned his head slightly after he heard a small sound of wood creaking. Standing beside him was Omori. His arms were resting on the railing, as he leaned against it. Omori had a 50 yard gaze, as he was just staring into the distance. Sunny normally would have felt fear at seeing Omori this quickly, however Sunny was already too emotionally overwhelmed currently, and he already fought Omori. So he tried his best to talk, even if his voice was hurting from the overusage.
“It Hu-”
“Don't overuse your voice. It’s no use.”
“...”
“Yea it hurts. It feels odd to be back right now if i am being honest.”
“. . .Y-”
“Don't. Pity me.”
Sunny nodded silently
“The feeling of losing is terrible. Especially since now I'm going to be gone for so long. With the truth being out, you don't need to escape the world anymore, so my world is no longer needed.”
Sunny looked pained to see Omori like this. He may have tried to kill him, but Omori was still a part of him, so it was more or less his own fault.
“I won't be able to see anybody anymore. I don't control anything anymore. I can't see any of my friends anymore!”
Omori’s voice cracks when he raises his volume. His voice was already hoarse and rough from talking, but now his emotions started to seep into his words
“I can't have a meal from Hero. I can't play basketball with Kel. I can't make flower crowns with Basil. I can't dance with Aubrey. I can't even get a hug from my big sister anymore…”
Omori chokes on his words when he mentions Mari. Sunny is now also looking down at the ground ahead of him, Omori still had a lot of Sunny’s guilt. However Sunny and Omori both missed Mari, however now Omori truly had to face her absence. Not even a fake version of Mari was available.
“. . .Dammit.”
Omori covered his face with his hands. Soft tears began to roll down the Monochromatic boy’s arms. Soft hics and exhausted breaths of air were the only thing that could be heard. Sunny had never heard Omori cry, and it felt so…painful to hear. Sunny felt water starting to leak from his left eye, as soft tears also began to stream down his eye.
“Sunny…I'm so sorry Sunny. Please…Please don't leave me, I don't want to disappear.”
Sunny felt Omori’s cold arms wrap around him. It didn’t feel real however that was because he knew Omori only existed in his mind. Omori wasn’t real. However…Omori wasn’t an adult either. He was still a child, who was made the day Mari died. Omori couldn’t treat things like he was an adult, nor could Sunny. They were both just two scared kids, who missed their sister, and did not want to disappear from the world.
Inside of Basil’s Room. . .
An awkward silence filled the room. Not even Basil was speaking. Kel seemed to be the first to speak up, since he hated it when rooms were uncomfortably quiet.
Kel: “So….That was something….We uh….uhm…..”
Basil: “....I’m sorry. I didn't mean to make things worse.”
Kel: “No no….It's…..Hm…”
Aubrey was still standing at the door. Her fist was clenched by her side, tears streaming down her face. She refused to show her face while crying though, so she stayed facing the door. Hero seemed to be looking down at the floor, trying to understand his own emotions.
Aubrey: “Why…..Why did you hide it.”
Basil: “I uh…I don't know…”
Aubrey: “THAT ISN'T AN ANSWER!”
Aubrey slammed her fist into the hospital wall, trying her best to compose herself. Aubrey was disgusted with herself for yelling, so she calmed her voice down. Her own words echoed to her, making her already regret yelling.
Basil: “...I thought it would be better if we lied. Maybe then we wouldn’t have gotten in trouble.”
Kel: “Did you have to lie though? I feel like that was…Kind of disrespecting Mari…”
Aubrey: “It wasn’t ‘kind of’ it absolutely was disrespecting her! We all felt terrible, we thought we couldn’t save her in time. Some of us blamed ourselves, some of us had planned things for afterwards! If you had told us the truth when it happened then we wouldn’t have been like this.”
Basil: “It was the first thought that came to mind…Especially since we didn't want to make people dislike Mari for the reason it happened…”
Kel: “If you had told us earlier then you could have stopped it before it happened…We would have always been able to help if either of them needed it. Right Hero?”
Hero: “. . .”
Kel: “Alright…”
Nobody in that room was mentally stable at the moment. Aubrey wanted to scream her head off, Kel wanted to cry his eyes out, Hero was….Worried. Hero’s emotions were scary, he felt things he hadn’t felt in so long. Things like hatred, rage, depression, he didn't like feeling like this. Last time he felt like this, he ended up accidentally yelling at Kel. But can anybody blame Hero for feeling like this right now? The love of his life was killed by her little brother, and Hero had no clue. Her little brother and his best friend, staged her death as a suicide, and Hero blamed himself for not being able to save her.
Hero: “...Basil.”
Basil: “Huh? Y-Yes Hero…?”
Hero got up from where he was sitting, and started to walk out of the room.
Hero: “You are the most selfish piece of shit I have ever heard in a long time.”
Hero opened the door, and walked out of the room calmly. Both Aubrey and Kel were incredibly surprised at the sudden emotional outburst from Hero, however neither of them were going to call him wrong. Basil seemed to take that incredibly badly, as tears began to stream down his face. Aubrey and Kel didn't even flinch, they had no clue how to help Basil, after all Basil cried alot but nobody ever knew what to say to help him. Sunny was usually the one to help him, not one of them. Kel was the first one to try and speak up, however his voice got caught on an imaginary thorn bush.
Kel: “Yo- I- . . . . .”
Aubrey: “I don't understand. Why is it so frustrating to understand! AUGH! Basil, why are you the one crying? Shouldn’t we be the ones feeling the most grief here! I don't understand, how could you two- why didn't we get to know! What made you two so much better than us, that you both thought it was fine to hide this from us!”
Basil only cried harder, the more Aubrey got frustrated. Kel had no clue what to do at this point, since usually the aura around people wasnt this depressing. A quick check up on people was what Kel would usually do. He supposed it wouldn’t be too much of a good idea to check up on them right now…
. . .With Hero
Hero was pacing up and down the halls, thinking to himself. He meant every word of what he said to Basil, and that was only the tip of the iceberg that was Hero’s emotions. Sunny of course was going to bear witness to the primary amount of those emotions, but Hero was mature enough to be fair. Sunny had been dealing with this as long as he had, in fact Sunny pushed her so he absolutely blamed himself. Hero thought he was the reason she died, so he could make the theory that Sunny and Him were in the same boat.
Where the hell had Sunny even gone though? All he knew was that Sunny ran out of the door when Aubrey tried to grab him. Had he gone back home, Hero doubts it, the hospital staff wouldn’t allow that ever. Maybe the roo-. . .Sunny. Sunny, don't tell me. We weren't that upset with you Sunny, please don't tell me.
Hero looked over to the window that faced the street. It was quite dark outside, around midnight. The window seemed to be cleaned quite well, especially for a popular hospital. Hero couldn’t see a body on the ground, so it was good. Plus he doubts Sunny could run up all 20 flights of stairs to the roof. They are only on the first floor. Hero let out a sigh of relief, he was glad tha- . . .
Drip….drop…drip….drop
Hero slowly creeped his head towards the window. Dread fills his mind, as he honestly prays to whatever god there is that he doesn't see what he thinks he might. The first thing he sees when he looks at the window is Red. Small droplets of blood splat onto the window, seemingly in a natural rhythm. It seems like it's from an active source with how often the blood hits the window. Years of med school really pay off. What does not pay off is Hero’s already damaged mental psyche, as his instinct immediately causes him to start sprinting up the stairs like a mad man.
By no means was Hero as active as Kel, but the protective side of Hero really peaked out when he felt the panic for Sunny’s safety. Hero was running up the stairs at 10 steps a second, practically spinning off of the corners of the stairway. A few patients seem to see Hero running up the stairs, and almost immediately knew what was happening. The patients cheer Hero on and give him good luck as he sprints up the stairs. Hero was going to live up to his nickname, he promised. He promised Mari that he would protect Sunny with his life, no matter how he was feeling. He didn’t care how upset he was at Sunny, He didn’t care what emotions he was experiencing right now, Hero was not going to let somebody else die because of his negligence.
Hero managed to get up the top of the Stairway in a few minutes, and as soon as he saw the doors to the rooftop, he sprinted over full force, and RAMMED his body into the door as hard as he could. The doors practically broke off of their hinges as Hero broke into the top of the Hospital. Sunny was sitting on the edge of the roof, keeping his legs off of the edge. Hero was heavily panting when he managed to get up to Sunny…However Sunny seemed to be in his own world right now.
For a moment, Hero took a deep breath, trying to control all the thoughts in his head that were telling him to say or do negative things to the poor boy in front of him. He decided to walk next to Sunny and lean on the railing. Sunny finally seemed to notice that Hero was here now, as he looked over to the side, and immediately scooted a decent distance away from him. Did Hero really scare Sunny this much….I’m so sorry Mari.
Hero: “A-Ahem. Hello Sunny.”
Sunny: “. . . . .Hello Hero”
Hero: “You split open your wounds again. Your bandages need to be reapplied when you get back to your room…”
Sunny: “Mhm…Sorry.”
Hero: “Don't apologize. We are nowhere near the stage where you apologize yet. Get your legs off the edge first before we do anything.”
Sunny simply complied with Hero’s commands, PriMarily because Hero could do anything right now. Sunny couldn’t read what Hero was thinking at all right now. However, to his surprise he felt something drape over his shoulders. It was a large gray coat. It was incredibly warm to the touch, as if it had gotten out of the dryer a little bit ago.
Hero: “Put it on. Mari would have killed me if I let you get sick like this. Especially since this is partially my fault.”
Sunny did as told once again, however this time it was less because it was a command and more because he was cold as hell, and this was a warm ass sweater. He wouldn’t question it for now, since he would rather be warm and confused, then freezing and content.
Hero: “I think you know that I am not perfectly happy with you right now. I don't think anybody is right now. Has the scarring on your hands healed fully yet? I remember you said that the strings of the violin hurt them pretty badly.”
Sunny: “Yea…They healed mostly.”
Hero: “That's good. Usually around now i would have pulled up a chair for you, but seeing we are on a roof, that’s kinda impossible.”
Hero forces a chuckle, as he feels a few of his emotions spilling over. His eyes felt moist as the water in his eyes was starting to get close to spilling over. Sunny could tell that Hero was currently a shell of the person he once was. He was now expressing how…empty he became since Mari left them.
Hero: “Before I start saying all of the things on my mind, I have one question for you Sunny.”
A quiet piano note could be slightly from within the hospital.
Hero: “Do you love Mari?”
Sunny: “…yes. Yes, I love Mari. I love her with all of my heart.”
Hero had a slight smile on his face for a second when he heard that. However it quickly dissolved back into his look of disappointment mixed with pain.
Hero: “That's good. I was thinking of asking you that ever since you told us the truth. So i guess only for a few minutes. Do you still own the Violin?”
Sunny: “It's….Incredibly broken… That's why she got so mad…”
Sunny’s voice got quieter and quieter once he said that, even if he had told them all the truth, he was not prepared to talk about it further with anybody yet.
Hero: “Ah. One of those reasons. If i remember correctly, the reason you joined the recital was so you could get closer to Mari correct? I can honestly understand that, ever since the announcement of the recital she was always at the Piano. I could barely get her out of the piano room half the time, and that was even if your dad let me in at all.”
Sunny: “Mhm…Dad never did enjoy it when people came to distract Mari from her work. Especially if it was you.”
Hero: “That’s an understatement. If he saw me it was practically on sight. I’m pretty sure I still have the scar from when he threw a chair at me…Lord that hurt like hell. Mari did make sure that I was alright even though she was practicing that day. I am pretty sure that was the first time she gave me a kiss on the cheek.”
Sunny: “I remember dad getting super upset about that. He yelled at Mari for a total of 15 seconds before getting all mushy and apologizing to her. That man could never get upset with Mari. Me on the other hand…”
Hero: “Ah. So thaaaats why we never heard anything from him. Your mom seems to be in contact with you though, so I suppose that's good.”
Sunny wanted to correct Hero about how much his mom was ‘in contact’ with him, however there was a time and place for everything. Hero did seem like he enjoyed talking about Mari like this though. Even if it looked like it physically pained him to talk about her so freely. Sunny knew he wasn’t off the hook yet, but he was glad Hero wasn't going to be trying to kill him at least.
More piano music began to play within the hospital, as rain started to slowly pour down onto the rooftop. Sunny thankfully had Hero’s coat on him at the moment, but Hero seemed not to mind all that much. I guess that must have been a good time as ever to segway Hero into his next conversation.
Hero: “I guess now it's time for the big talk huh? I have never been good at stuff like this, that was Mari’s job…”
Sunny: “..Mhm…”
Hero: “i…Don't understand how i feel to be honest. All of the emotions I feel are so strong and so plentiful that I don't understand what to say is directed at you, and what isn't. I told off Basil, but odds are that's just because I didn't like the fact that he came up with the idea to lie.”
Sunny: “. . .”
Hero: “I can't hate you Sunny. I can say that for certain. I want you to have another chance, since you have quite obviously been suffering alongside us in your own way. However, I cannot forgive you. I am on terms with you right now Sunny. I know Mari would kill me if I did anything to hurt you without reason. That's why I am doing this with reason.”
Hero got up from his position on the railing, and walked up to Sunny, and he raised his hand up harshly…And then flicked Sunny’s forehead. Sunny had to admit it did hurt, but that was because of his weak stature currently. There was more mental damage in that hit then there was physical however. Sunny knew Hero was struggling with his own idea of what he thought about Sunny.
Hero: “You are a piece of shit, no good liar, who killed his sister and tried to escape by forgetting about it entirely. I am sorry you are all of that.”
Sunny: “...’s fine….”
Hero: “Hear me when I say this kid. You cannot die, i dont allow it, and I am damn sure nobody else is gonna allow it either. We are here for you, and god damn am I here for you as well. I may really want to punch you in the face, but you need to understand that we don't hate you. I know full well Aubrey could never hate you, Kel wants you to be happy after Mari’s death, and Basil literally is your partner in crime.”
Sunny: “Why…Why are you doing this…i did so much”
Hero: “Sunny. I both hate you and I don't hate you at the moment. However I know Mari would have forgiven you, and I know you entirely didn't mean to do it. I may only partially forgive you, but if i disrespect Mari’s death by letting you die and join her in heaven, then i am no better then all the murderers in the world.”
Sunny was staring at Hero with watery eyes, the rain pattering over the coat he had put on earlier. However the mix of pain from his wound, and the emotions he felt over Hero’s words began to spill over. Sunny began to softly cry as he fell to the ground, covering his face with his hands. He shivered from the mentality of his own body being practically broken with emotions, yet Sunny couldn’t even pay attention to his surroundings as he felt himself slowly getting picked up.
Hero had ended up walking over to Sunny who was currently on the ground, and decided to slowly pick him up, and begin walking down the stairs of the hospital. Hero slowly rubbed Sunny’s back as he sobbed into Hero’s shoulder. Hero often dealt with the group's emotions when Mari was not available, so he knew that Sunny usually wasn’t a fan of being talked to while crying unless it was Mari. So of course Hero decided to rub his back and pat his head while walking down the stairs, just so he could help calm down Sunny.
The people who had cheered on Hero and told him good luck appeared to still be at the stairs, practically waiting for Hero to return. As soon as Hero was seen at the stairs, multiple people began to cheer and give him praise for ‘saving that boy!’ if only they knew what actually happened…
After an exhausting walk down the stairs, Hero finally managed to make it to the first floor. His legs were killing him, but he was doing something important right now, so it didn't matter how much pain it caused him. He began to walk down the hallway filled with medical rooms and tried to find Sunny’s room, however Hero doubted how many rooms this hospital had…And why he hadn't used the elevator to get to the first floor instead of the stairs. The one thing that did bother Hero however, was the fact that he could hear soft piano music playing. It wasn’t Sunny and Mari’s duet, however it was seemingly comforting. As if Mari was right there by his side playing some music. She must be so close for him to be able to hear- stop. Hero no, we cant be simping for a dead woman, that is disrespectful, STOP BLUSHING YOU FUCK MAN.
As Hero’s internal dialogue bullied him, he finally managed to find Sunny’s room and easily pushed the door open with a light push. Surprisingly the door wasn't locked this late at night, but I guess that makes sense. As soon as he walked into the room, he saw Aubrey at the foot of Sunny’s bed, with puffy eyes. She had quite obviously been crying as he could see a bit of mascara running down her cheek, and her eyes were puffy enough to be mistaken for a pufferfish. What Hero hadn't expected however was for Aubrey to practically lunge at him as soon as she saw him and Sunny.
Aubrey: “WHAT DID YOU DO TO HIM!?”
Hero: “Huh?- I haven't done anything Aubrey.”
Aubrey: “YOU TWO WERE GONE FOR SO LONG WHERE WERE YOU!?”
Hero: “We were at the roof Aubrey. Can I please put Sunny down before you shout at me?”
Those words shocked Aubrey. They were on the roof? It’s not because Sunny tried to….right? Sunny seemed to have been crying as well so maybe she was right after all, however she couldn’t ask him right now, since Sunny was peacefully sleeping in Hero’s arms. Hero was trying his best to be incredibly mature, as he knew this was a fragile situation. Hero for sure wasn’t fully better at all, but he knew Aubrey didn't need much to make her emotions spill over. He would be the bigger person, and just let her get it out of her system, and calmly explain what had happened. So while Aubrey stared at Sunny on Hero’s shoulder, Hero ended up slowly laying him in his bed and laying the blanket over him.
Aubrey: “Am i allowed to talk now.”
Hero: “Go ahead.”
Aubrey: “Was Sunny trying to kill himself?”
Hero: “I…Don't think he was. He was sitting down on the edge with his legs over the building.”
Aubrey: “Why was he up there then Hero. What reason would he have to be up there Hero?”
Hero: “He could have wanted air. Mixing his fear and the already stuffy air of the hospital, I can't blame him.”
Aubrey: “Maybe, but you could have also done something. In fact you could be lying to me right now, Hero.”
Aubrey took a step towards Hero, however Hero refused to move. He would stand his ground, after all he wasn't even lying.
Aubrey: “You seemed pretty upset when you walked out of that room. You could have taken that anger out on Sunny as well.”
Hero: “I didn’t hurt him, if that is what you are trying to say here.”
Aubrey: “How do I know you aren't lying out of your teeth right now. Since I can't ask Sunny, you are the only one I can ask right now.”
Hero started to feel his blood begin to boil, he didn't like getting accused of something like this. He understood people were coping with the truth in their own way, but Hero hadn’t done anything wrong.
Hero: “I assure you I am not lying. You can ask Sunny when he wakes up.”
Aubrey: “And what if he never wakes up huh? What if you hurt him badly enough that he's gonna die of blood loss?”
Hero: “ Christ. I didn't hurt him at all, the only damage he has is from his wounds ripping open because he went up the stairs.”
Aubrey: “Fine. I can accept that. Now you have to explain what that bit was when you left Basil’s room.”
Hero: “I was upset at Basil, and I still am. Just like how I am still upset with Sunny, that’s why. Can you truly blame me for saying what everybody was thinking?
Aubrey: “I think some of us were able to control our anger better than some. Unlike you, we wanted to hold our tongue more than anything else.”
Aubrey seemed to be getting more upset by the second, as she walked right up to Hero, and pressed her finger against his chest, trying to push him back. However Hero still stood his ground. He would not let Aubrey move him. What did surprise him however, was the fact that Aubrey’s knuckles were incredibly red. Almost as if she punched something. Hero took a quick scan around the room, and then quickly saw a dent in the wall beside Sunny’s bed…Aubrey has been here for a while.
Hero: “Aubrey…Are your hands okay? Your knuckles are incredibly red.”
Aubrey: “You don't get to ask me that right now. You are currently the one who is being put on trial.”
Hero: “Aubrey, I said what I was thinking, I didn't want to lie to those two, and make them think that I was perfectly happy with them. Cause i am very sure that you aren't either, especially with how you reacted towards Sunny.”
Hero could tell that Aubrey was getting worse. She didn’t like that the issues with how she was thinking were now also being brought up. However Hero knows another reason why she hates this. Aubrey hates hospitals with a passion, He remembers Mari telling him something about that. Last time Aubrey’s wound got infected, she had to go to the hospital. The doctors didn’t allow visitors at the time because they were treating her wound, however Aubrey needed somebody with her. She couldn’t stand being alone and it terrified her, so now the hospital only reminded her of how lonely she would feel occasionally.
Mari was still helping Hero even now. What would she do when Aubrey was like this though, he can't remember…usually the Suzuki’s would take care of Aubrey, but Hero was more of a stranger then anybody else in the group. He had been gone for college as well, so there was no way he could have been here for them at any time. Perhaps it was selfish to use college as an escape from the trauma. It’s good he knows the truth now though. Ah yes, he forgot. Aubrey was still in front of him.
Aubrey: “You cannot lecture me about my reactions. I know how I react to things is bad, but at least I didn't yell at somebody who had just told the truth.”
Hero: “Basil didn't even say anything. I don't know who you are talking about, since I didn't yell at Sunny.”
Aubrey: “He was involved Hero, that makes it just as bad. We can't entirely invalidate how he feels.”
This time Hero takes a step forward, as his blood begins to boil over. Aubrey had not expected that, so she practically fell backwards as she took a step back. She hadn’t seen any of Hero’s raw emotions like this before. He seemed….Angry yet disappointed at the same time. However what scared her more was how cold his voice sounded. As if there was nothing behind his words.
Hero: “Basil was involved because he suggested Sunny should lie and fucking hang Mari. Sunny went along with it because of the sudden idea that seemed good. All Basil did was get there at a bad time, and because of that we never knew what actually happened for 4. Fucking. Years. Sunny pushed Mari down the stairs and killed her with his own hand, I understand that. He told us all the motivation, so there is nothing else to hide about that.”
Aubrey: “H-Hero-”
Hero: “NO. No. What i dont understand is why Basil’s first idea was to lie and stage her death as a suicide. That hurt all of us so much more than what it would have if we knew the truth. ALL OF US. Blamed ourselves because we thought she killed herself, we thought we did something wrong. I know I am being unreasonable right now, but I can't help but not be pissed off at Basil. I can forgive Sunny faster then i can forgive Basil, AND SUNNY IS THE ONE WHO FUCKING PUSHED HER.”
Aubrey felt tears well up in her eyes. She didn’t like this kind of Hero, she didn't like being yelled at. Even if the yelling wasn't fully directed towards her, it still hurt. She half expected to get slapped across the face by Hero sometime soon, however it never came. Instead Hero slowly quieted down, and began to pace across the room.
Aubrey: “H-Hero i….I'm sorry that i don't have anything to help with…”
Hero: “You don't need to apologize, you did nothing wrong. I am sorry that i unloaded my emotions on you.”
Aubrey: “...Mhm…It's okay… Please don't do it again…. ”
Hero: “I am….Gonna go get something from the vending machine. Do you want something?”
Aubrey: “...A cookie….and Chips.”
Hero: “I asked what You wanted not what Sunny wanted Aubrey.”
Aubrey: “Wha- Hey! Sunny needs to eat, so he can have the chips. I would get my ass kicked if I let him starve.”
Hero: “Pfff mhm? Always looking out for Sunny i see~”
Aubrey: “Wha- Hey no get back! You bastard!”
Hero chuckled as he walked out of the room, leaving Aubrey a flushed and red mess. Hundreds of emotions were flickering through her mind. She couldn’t decipher half of them, however she did know that she needed to get rid of these negative emotions…Sunny was asleep but it was still Sunny…Aubrey missed when her and Sunny sat on the swings together
Aubrey could almost hear a distant piano playing, it wasn’t Sunny and Mari’s duet but it was a soft piano. Maybe Mari was still here after all, even as a ghost…ehehe…It's a funny thought to think about.
“Isn't that right Sunny? Is it dumb to hope that Mari is some ghost that is still here with us? It feels almost surreal to think about, but i enjoy the thought of it…Ya know…I honestly did miss you alot. It feels terrible to know that you are supposed to leave soon. Especially when you are injured like this. I don't want you to go”
Aubrey slowly yet comfortably, wraps her arms around Sunny. She then places her head on his chest with a slow and cautious feel around to make sure she did not place her head on any of his injuries. She wasn’t ready for him to go. Nobody was. Even if they all knew what he did, Aubrey was sure everybody still saw him as their best friend. Even Hero…Maybe. What mattered most to Aubrey though, was how Sunny felt towards everybody else. Since she knows that he hasn't been outside in 4 years…Hopefully he was eating at least. Would she have to share some of her robbing spoils with Sunny? She was entirely open to the idea if it got him to eat, but she didn’t want to make Sunny into a delinquent like her.
“Would you be open to stealing stuff Sunny? I feel like you might be able to be a good delinquent, your tiny body could get over fences and crawl through tiny spaces pretty easily. But knowing you, you wouldn’t wanna be somebody who was seen like that. Especially because of how you literally helped the entire town in a matter of three days after all. Pretty sure the entire town also missed you like hell.”
Aubrey felt a bit more calm then she was earlier, as she began to fully relax her head on Sunny’s chest. Do all Suzuki’s have some calming aura or something? Aubrey didn't really care all that much about that, however she was happy to be able to physically be near Sunny. She used to only ever see him in her dreams, so whenever she woke up it just…hurt. Now was the time where she could hold, touch, talk to, hang out with, Kiss
“I never understood how you could be so silent yet somehow we all knew what you were saying. It's like you never spoke but you were so talkative. I remember how happy I was the day you actually spoke to me though. I was so surprised since I thought you were mute. You got surprised as well, since i literally yelled as soon as you”
“I'm sorry…For having my guys beat you and Kel. We just…weren't having a good day, and Kel did not help with that. So when you literally slashed me with a knife, we kinda went all out on ya. I'm surprised you actually lasted that long against us though, considering your…well absence of going outside.”
Aubrey’s voice got quieter and quieter as she spoke, a few mumbles came from her mouth as she struggled to keep her eyes open. After a few more mumbles, she eventually fell asleep while sitting next to Sunny, with her head on his chest. She had a soft smile on her face, as she was overjoyed to actually be able to relax and sleep with him like she did when they were kids. She may be older now, but she wouldn't ever hate the feeling of being comforted by a Suzuki.
Meanwhile…
Hero was standing in front of a vending machine that he found after a bit of effort. This hospital seems to at least have a good selection of food in the vending machines and thankfully this wasn’t what the hospital made all the patients eat. The cafeteria was on the second floor, but it's too late for dinner and too early for breakfast. So a cookie and chips is what the two would get, as per their request.
He began to punch in the code for a peanut butter cookie, and a bag of original lays chips. Sunny was never a fan of big flavors, so he usually got the plain stuff. The first cookies that Aubrey had from Mari were peanut butter so he figured she would like them. Hero watched as the vending machine plopped the food down into the capsule at the bottom of the machine, as he just held his hand under it to grab the food. He then cracked his back and got back up.
Hero’s head was filled with thoughts that he wanted to say, but he refused to acknowledge them. All that Hero knows is that he needs to visit Mari’s grave soon after this. Usually she knew what to do at times like these, and being at the grave usually puts him at peace of mind. It's where he would always vent out his thoughts and relax. He would usually bring 2 drinks to the grave, one for him and one for Mari. If only she knew how much he still loved her, maybe then things would have been different. If only Hero was able to see the damage that was happening to the both of them, perhaps then things wouldn’t have turned out this way.
Hero shook those feelings away for now, and began to walk back to the room with the snacks the two wanted. However as he walked down the hall, he spotted a man who was staring out of the window, out into the rain. His face seemed apathetic, almost as if there was nothing behind those eyes. He didn't smile, and he didn't frown. He was just slack at the mouth while staring at the rain. Tears stained the man’s cheeks. Hero was worried for the man, but he couldn’t do anything for him, after all he had no clue who this person was. Was this what happened to people who lost everything? Is this what Sunny could have been, had Kel not brought him out 3 days ago?...
Hero has become…???
Hero was confused by his emotion, but he wasn't even sure what emotion it actually was. So he decided against taking the time to figure it out, since Aubrey and Sunny needed food. Aubrey was awake so she was probably hungry right now. Thankfully the room wasn't too far from the vending machine, so of course he managed to get to the door rather quickly. He took a second to listen in to see if he would interrupt anything by walking in….He heard silence. So he opened the door and walked inside.
What he saw was Aubrey and Sunny cuddled up together, with Aubrey’s head on his chest. They had gotten oddly close…
“Sunny…?”
