Dorothea & Sylvain C
Dorothea stepped toward the classroom door, headed into the hall, before she reached the doorframe Sylvain stepped into view. One hand on the door frame, he smiled at her “Dorothea” he said softly. Dorothea flashed a brief smile before placing a hand on Sylvain’s shoulder, his eyes brows raised before she pushed him forward, swinging him aside on a hinge “excuse me” Said Dorothea sweetly, she skipped in her step as she walked away from him, leaving him standing outside the classroom. Sylvain, huffed a light laugh and followed her, he sped to her side but then snatched her stride as they walked. there was a chipperness in his sep that followed into his voice “I don’t believe we have been properly introduced” Said Sylvain “I don’t we need to be” said Dorothea, her eyes were kept forward, she positioned her books his her arms to cover her chest, and smiled. Sylvain kept up with the timing of her steps, as they walked through the hall. “If I have done something to offend you so early… let me apologize” said Sylvain, Dorothea stopped to stare at Sylvain. “You do not offend me Sylvain” “Then what have I done that warrants such a cold introduction?” he said, Dorothea smiled “You do not interest me.” She skipped again and began to stride down the hall ahead of him. Sylvain laughed lightly, watching her leave, “So the rumors are true then” Sylvain called after her, there was a slight pause in her step “Dorothea… wit as striking as her beauty… so desperate for husband she has no time for a friendly hello” There was a sharp sound when Dorothea laughed. She turned slowly to face him. “I herd you were Garack Mock’s biggest flirt.” she said taking a step closer, “I herd you were suave, and charming…” She leaned into to face him “they didn’t tell me you brash and juvenile.” she said before pulling away. Sylvain watched with wide eyes as she left him, but then smiled as she turned the corner. “Alright” he breathed

Dorothea sat alone at a table in the dinning hall, she knit her fingers and leaned her elbows lightly on the table, she leaned forward, straightened her back as she sat, there was a plate steaming in front of her, her eyes darted to different corners of the room. She adjusted herself in her seat again and leaned her head carefully on top of her hands keeping her posture and a soft smile. Sylvain dropped heavily into the seat across from her, Dorothea jumped. “Got stood up?” Sylvain asked waving a piece of bread between them. Dorothea dropped her arms and leaned away from him. “I don’t see why that gives you the right to interrupt me” she huffed crossing her arms, Sylvain shrugged “you looked lonely” she scowled “So you scheduled me between your flirtatious encounters?” “I don’t have any encounters scheduled.” said Sylvain dropping his hands to the table to face Dorothea, she sighed, “I suppose you are better company then an empty seat” she leaned her ams against the table again, her posture fall, her eyes dropped to her untouched plate. “Don’t feel too bad it happens to the best of us?” “And you would know?” Dorothea huffed fixing her eyes on Sylvain. “I strike out all the time… its an art ya know” Dorothea rolled her eyes and then searched the room again, sitting up slightly. “He’s not even here” she said, Sylvain leaned an elbow on the table and casually watched the room. “What’s he look like?”“It doesn’t matter” said Dorothea softly to her plate. Sylvain rotated to face her “You want my advice? You come on to strong… guys can smell marriage on you and it scares them-“ “I don’t want to hear it from a man who never wants to be married-“ “Hang on, I never said that… I want to get married eventually…” “Better polish that lie a little better then that-“ “I was being serious” said Sylvain, his smile faded, his eyes lowered to bread in his hands. “What’s she like? The woman you’d marry… if you could choose anyone-” Sylvain sat up, cracked a smile at Dorothea “Anyone?” Dorothea gestured to the crowd of students moving through the dining hall. “Who would you choose?” she said Sylvain shrugged… “It could be anyone really…” his eyes lowered to the bread he twisted in his hands. “As long as it felt… real-“ “What do you mean?” said Dorothea, “You know… when someone sees something besides the front… a lot of girls want you for your money… or your name… or your crest…” Sylvain tore the bread with a harsh rip, but then slowly pealed the rest of it apart “if I found someone that made it feel real… like she understood me… I’d never want to let her go-“ he said to half of the bread in his hand, he closed his hand and squeezed it against him palm. Dorothea watched his hands as he spoke. “You want some friendly advice?” she asked “If you want them to love something besides the surface… you’ll have to show it to them…” she said, their eyes met. “And that’s what your doing?” said Sylvain “Showing them a pretty dress and a perky attitude… you expect them to love more then what they see?” he said, Dorothea shook her head and cast her eyes to her plate. “Love is for the young and rich…” she said, there was a snap in her voice that threatened to snap the plate. she gently put her hands beneath her dish and lifted it with her as she stood. “Excuse me please…” she said leaving her seat, her voice shifting, it was solum and cold, she carried her plate away without another word. Sylvain still sat in his seat, watching her wade through the crowd.

Sylvain walks through the hall into the open, where he can hear Dorothea laughing behind a tall hedge. Sylvain stops to listen. “The pleasure is all mine, we should do it again sometime” Dorothea said with a chipper laugh, Sylvain can hear bother parties on the other side of the hedge standing to leave. he turned and waits for Dorothea to come around the corner but instead he see the man she was talking to and scowls. Dorothea comes around the corner “Sylvain? Oh, lovely day isn’t it?” she said with a practiced smile. Sylvain raised his eyebrows. “Correct me if I am wrong… I know that you wanted a wealthy man… loyal… stable… with enough charm to make you forget he’s dumb as dirt, but I thought you would looking for someone at least close to your own age.” “hmm- marriage advice from a pickup artist… since when do spy on other people’s dates?” she said, “I didn’t need to! He’s right there?! What is he? Like three times your age?” “He is my business and I will thank you not to yell your worthless opinions while he is still in ear shot!” Dorothea snapped, She and sylvain slowly turned to Face Dorothea’s date who stood seventy feet away. He waves at Dorothea and she blows a soft kiss at him. “Gross” Sylvain said under his breath. Dorothea turned sharp eyes back on him. “If I catch you again I will tell every woman on campus that you’re engaged“ she hissed through her smile, “Look, I wasn’t spying on you” “And I don’t care, I feel like your following me! Like ever since that day in the hall I keep running into you- and ever since that day it has become harder and harder- to get a man to talk to me… hanging around you- they treat me like trash- you can sleep with a hundred women and still they line up- I spend to much time talking with a man and they assume we’ve slept together-“ Dorothea snapped. “So don’t follow me anymore… do’t talk to me, or look at me… if anyone asks… we were never friends.” “Dorothea wait-“ said Sylvain, Dorothea turned away from him, standing several feet ahead beside the hedge. Sylvain, dropped his gaze to the ground. “I’m sorry… I didn’t mean to interrupt you… I didn’t mean to stop here… I herd your voice and I don’t know why I stopped… I don’t know why I wanted to talk to you… I didn’t really think about it like that… like I was hurting your reputation… so I’m sorry… but please…” Dorothea turned around, quartered away but staring at Sylvain. “If we were ever friends… I don’t want to stop… I still think about that time in the dining hall… when you told me that love was for the young and rich… and I realized I never even asked… I hardly know you… but I want to…. what I’m trying to say is… that I won’t eavesdrop on you… and I will try to keep your reputation clean… but I still want to talk to you…” Dorothea faced Sylvain, hugging her arms across her chest she nodded, “I want to talk to you too…” Sylvain smiled but kept his eyes low. “Does that make us friends?” “No…” said Dorothea “I would prefer people thought of us as casual enemies” Sylvain laughed, “I’d like that” Dorothea & Sylvain S (Post time skip) Dorothea and Sylvain walk side by side through the monastery. “Where will you go?” said Dorothea, “Mmmh you mean after the war?I’m not sure I’m thinking that far ahead right now” said Sylvain with a long sigh, Dorothea nodded. “You said you were gonna leave the army after this right?” said sylvain, “Picking up your Career with the Mittelfrank Opera again?” “That was the original plan” said Dorothea, she reaches into her shirt to pull out a neckless she is wearing with a gold ring attached. Sylvain stares at if for a minute. “Is that someones wedding ring?” “Its mine… he proposed to me a few days ago-“ “You mean the old guy… he survived?” “Could you please use his name?” “This means your moving away” said Sylvain. Dorothea nodded dipping the ring back under her shirt. Sylvain watched her hand “Why aren’t you whirring the ring?” “I didn’t want to loose it… I just feel like I’m going to drop it and all of this will just disappear.” “Would that be so bad?” “Don’t flirt with me now” Dorothea shook her head. “I’m not flirting with you… I’m honestly wondering if you want to marry this guy…” “I do” “But do you love him?” “no” said Dorothea, they paused, Dorothea smiled and let out a small laugh. “It feels good to say that… I always felt like I could be honest with you.” “So then he doesn’t know-“ “He doesn’t need to… I will never leave him…” She said, Syivain let out a long sigh “For the rest of your life? But… what if someone-“ “Someone what?” “I Don’t know, what if one day… you actually found love… and you realized that if you had waited just a little longer… you could have found someone else… someone didn’t have to lie to… someone you looked forward to being with… that you could be honest with… someone that knows that you need him… but knows that he needs you too.” They stopped walking but didn’t face each other “Where could I find someone like that?” said Dorothea to the silence. Sylvain, grabbed her hand and pulled her to him, lifting her face into his, he kissed her, brushing their lips together, Dorothea gasped and leaned away, looking at Sylvain, before closing her eyes leaning back in to kiss him. she parted only by inches to speak “This is real?” “This is real” he answered wrapping his arms around her in a soft embrace.
Dorothea & Sylvain Ending Card
Dorothea and Sylvain where married and raised a family together, they inherited Gautier Territory and as Lord and Lady they worked to improve relations between Margrave Gautier and the Sreng people, and dispel the social political pressures that nobles places around crests and relics. Their reign will was honored by historians. They say Sylvain passed several decades before Dorothea, there was once a page that was recovered many years after their reign, the letter or a page from a journal, it was identified as bearing Sylvain’s handwriting “I never got an answer, when I asked you, if you could have chosen to marry anyone, who would you have chosen? I don’t think you could have answered me back than, but I think that you could now. I hope that you marry again, and I hope that this time you know that you can choose anyone.”
