Work Text:
“I miss Choi Jung Soo.” the voice that cuts through the silence is soft but firm, with no wobbles but full of longing.
Cale doesn't respond, he doesn't look at him either, and had it been someone else who had said those words perhaps they might have thought the nobleman was ignoring them. But Sui Khan, no, Lee Soo Hyuk knew him better, knew as well as himself.
So he continued, saying the things they had both held for so long in his heart, since long before their meeting.
“I hope we can be together again. The farm looks great, he'll probably be happy when he sees it and he definitely won't let you get away from helping him.”
A wet laugh is all the response he gets, it's enough to make him smile, tinged with the sadness his confident tone doesn't reflect.
And the now older one just covers his eyes with his arm, though that doesn't manage to stop his records, or turn off his brain or erase the all too familiar feeling that comes over him, as if they were on a quiet night in the middle of the apocalypse, sharing silly dreams with a conviction that almost makes them sound possible as if at some point they might actually leave the battlefield and go to the Choi family's village, make a farm and an orchard, live the three of them together, and receive occasional visits from the rest of the group.
Now, the human thinks, maybe he can believe them a little more.
