mizuki huffed as they rose up, and immediately they were hit with a headache. “ughh, what happened?” they murmured. they fully got up but then almost fell back down. “jeez, w-where’s ena—“ they asked, looking around the tent they were in. it was hard, their vision was blurry, and they could barely remember who ena was. “huh. ena?” they saw a brown, long-haired girl with horns on her head. “ena!” they shouted, running over to the girl in a futon.
“hey, are you okay?” mizuki started shaking ena until her eyes slightly opened.
“mizuki…?”
“ena!” mizuki jumped to hug their fighting partner. “are you okay, are you hurt?” they felt all over ena. “do you recall anything from last night?”
ena groaned slightly. “n-no, i just have a massive headache…do you?”
“no, and same,” they responded. they got up and looked around. they were clearly in a tent. but the walls looked more…defined? where are they? “the only thing i recall is fighting that boss, that’s it.”
“ah, same,” ena was now sitting up, leaning against a pillow. “we should try and get back to the kingdom, huh?” she got up and was a little sluggish. she walked over and picked up two lanterns and handed one to her partner. “c’mon, i don’t want to stay here any longer, this tent creeps me out.”
mizuki just nodded, grabbing ena’s hand and walking out of the tent. now they could see exactly where they were. but, all they could see what mountains, snow, trees, and branches on the ground. “wow, that’s just great! now we don’t even know what direction we’re supposed to go in!” ena swung her arms around to prove her point.
“ena, you’re being dramatic. look on the bright side! at least you and i are alone, together~!” they held onto her arm, trying to make a point.
“you’re right…”
“wait what?!” ena actually agreed to something as stupid as that? “aw, so you do admit it! you love me~!”
“shut up! i have something to do back at the kingdom so we got to hurry up.”
“yeah yeah.”
they started trekking through the snow, which was incredibly difficult with 7 inches of snow. but, it was cold and scary. anything could pop out and attack them, they wanted to leave as soon as possible, so they didn’t complain.
they both walked for a couple more minutes. it was quiet, safe for the sound of snow being stepped on. “hey, mizuki?” ena said, stopping in her tracks. mizuki also stopped and turned around to face the other girl.
“what’s up? i thought you needed to do something important back at the kingdom~?”
“yeah, well…” she fumbled with her fingers. she couldn’t stay still. “i just — wanted to tell you something. i know it’s probably—no, it’s a bad time to say this, but…” she stuttered with her words, she wasn’t even making eye contact!
“make eye contact with me.”
since when was mizuki so demanding…ena obliged, looking up to face the knight. mizuki’s eyes were soft and concerned. “what’s wrong? it’s unlike you to stutter like that.”
mizuki truly cares for their partner. that’s cute.
“i know, but…” ena forced herself to make eye contact. “you know what? i’m just going to outright say it,” she said, mostly to herself, mizuki noticed. “i like you. as in, like like. it’s a bad time, i know, but i just wanted to get it off my chest, that’s all.”
ena saw how mizuki was just standing still, eyes widened in shock. she bit her lip, struggling to breathe. “you probably don’t like me back, which is fine, but please, say something, ” when mizuki didn’t listen, ena sighed and started walking. “well, we should get back, huh? the queen probably already sent out a search team for us!” ena walked past mizuki, then felt something on her wrist as she got pulled back. mizuki was hugging her?
“i like you too, i was just in shock.”
“h-huh?”
“do you need me to repeat that? i love you too.”
“ah…” ena muttered, hugging the knight back. “i hate you…
“HUH? what did i do?!”
“you’re not kissing me.”
“you little minx…”
