Emu & Nene were neighbourhood childhood best-friends. You'd be surprised really, since they were polar opposites. Emu was energetic and social, while Nene was quiet and shy. But as they say, opposites attract right?
Right now, Emu & Nene were playing a game. Of course, it was Emu's pick, but Nene enjoyed it regardless. The game was Hide & Seek. Emu was the hider, and Nene was the seeker.
The rules were that you hide, and the seeker tries their best to find you. If the seeker finds you within 10 minutes, you run away, while the seeker attempts to tag you. (Emu added the tag rule)
That brings us to Emu's backyard, where they were playing the game. Emu's backyard recently had an expansion, so Emu decided that it was the perfect time to invite Nene over. 4 minutes had past, and Nene was trying to find Emu.
"If I was Emu... Where would I hide-?" Nene mumbled to herself.
Then she heard small giggles from one of the bushes.
'Ah, there you are, Emu...!' She thought in determination.
Nene ran to the bushes, trying to remember which one giggled like Emu.
"Hm..."
Nene was really focused. She paid close attention to the bushes, checking for any movement. Then...
"Boo!!" Emu jumped out.
"A-Ah!" Nene yelped, falling on the ground.
Now, Emu would help Nene up, but that would've gotten her tagged.
"Hehe, did I scare you, Nene-chan?" Emu said playfully.
"Y-Yes! Of course you did...!" Nene said, pouting slightly.
"Hehe, sorryy! But now, you gotta catch me to win! Zoo-zooooom!!" The energetic child announced, as she ran away as fast as she could.
"Emu, get back here!!" Nene spoke, quickly getting off the ground, and chasing Emu.
As expected, Emu was the fastest between the two. Yet somehow, Nene had almost the same amount of energy as Emu today. Which was rare, considering her timid nature. Just as Nene was catching up...
"Haha! You're fast today, Nene-chan!"
"Ah! Emu, look out! The tree!!"
"Huh? What tree—"
...Then Emu bumped into the tree, falling backwards on the ground.
"E-Emu!" Nene cried out, running to Emu.
"Emu! Are you alright..?" Nene kneeled down beside Emu, looking at her.
"*sniff* N-No..." Emu said, as she began to cry.
She had quite the scratch on her nose, and a bruise on her forehead.
"Emu, please don't cry..." Nene softly said.
Nene wasn't very good at comforting others, since she was usually the one being comforted.
"Emu, stay here. I-I'll get some help..."
"O-Okay..."
Nene then ran off quickly, rushing to help Emu.
Unfortunately, none of Emu's family members weren't home, so Nene couldn't ask for help.
All Nene had was her 7-year old brain.
"Maybe there are some bandaids in the bathroom?"
There had to be. Almost every bathroom has bandaids, no? Nene rushed to the nearest bathroom, and stepped on the stool to open the cupboard.
'Let's see... Medicine, Q-tips... Aha-! A first aid-kit is much better!' Nene thought.
Nene's mother taught her how to use it, just in case something happened. She grabbed the first-aid kit, ran outside the bathroom, and went outside.
As she went outside, she found Emu crying on the grass, with her cut bleeding out slightly. Nene ran to Emu, and opened the first-aid kit.
"Emu, I couldn't find help, so instead... I'll help you out...!"
"Y-Yay! Doctor Nene-chan to the rescue, hehe..." Emu giggled, as a tear went down her cheek from the pain.
Nene was about to get an alcohol pad, but she decided to warn Emu first.
"Emu, this might hurt a bit... H-Here, hold my hand, and if it hurts, squeeze it..." Nene reached her hand out to Emu.
Emu locked her hand with Nene’s, holding it softly.
'Her hands are so soft...' Nene thought, as she blushed slightly.
She then got an alcohol pad, and then she gently tapped it on Emu's cut.
"O-Ow..." Emu winced from the pain, as she held Nene's hand tighter.
Nene felt bad for Emu, as she continued to tap it lightly on Emu's cut. Now she's done, so she takes out a bandaid, and puts it on Emu's injury.
Just as she thought she was done, she spotted the bruise on Emu's forehead. So she took out a cold pack, and handed it to Emu.
"Emu, put this on your forehead, where the bruise is."
Emu nodded, following what Nene said.
"There we go, all better..." Nene smiled warmly at Emu.
"Nene-chan..." Emu sniffled.
Emu then hugged Nene softly, resulting in Nene to blush a bit more.
"Thank you, Nene-chan... You're the best...!"
"Ah, y-you're welcome, Emu..." Nene said shyly, as she hugged Emu back.
"I have a question... Who won this roundd?" Emu cheerfully said.
"Hmm... You won." Nene smiled slightly.
"Wrongg!" Emu lively said.
"Huh?" Nene confusedly questioned.
"We both won, silly! It's a tie! ♪" Emu smiled brightly.
"Okay then... W-We both win."
That smile always made Nene blush. She didn't know why she felt that warm feeling when she was with Emu, but she didn't hate it, not at all. In fact, she quite liked the feeling.
Fast Forward to a month later...
School was over for the day, and Emu & Nene were walking home together, since their school was close to their houses.
"Nene-chan, Nene-chan! Look what I drew!" Emu pulled a drawing out of her backpack, and showed it to Nene.
"It's you and me! You're a doctor, and I'm the patient! Remember when you helped me when I bumped into that random tree? I was suuuper amazed!! I didn't know you could use that- uh... What's it called again? Oh right, first-aid kit! Teach me, teach meee!" Emu's eyes shined, as she put the drawing back in her backpack.
Nene wasn't used to compliments, so her face became a little pink, flustered from the praise Emu was giving her.
"W-Well... It wasn't all t-that great—"
"No! It's amazingg! Please teach mee! I wanna help you too!!"
"Hehe, okay, okay, I'll teach you when we get back!"
As they head closer towards their home, Nene's bullies show up.
"Hey look! It's shy stutterer and her dumb sidekick!" The bully laughed.
"Leave Nene-chan alone!" Emu shouted.
"Oh yeah? What are you gonna do?"
"I'm gonna tell on you, that's what! Come on Nene-chan—"
"Hold her down!" The 'leader' of the group of bullies yelled.
So his loyal subjects ran to hold Emu down, ripping her backpack off her back.
"Wah?! Let go of me!" Emu said angrily, as she tried to get out of the bullies grasp.
"E-Emu!" Nene called out.
The leader pushes Nene down, on the hard pavement road.
"O-Ow!" Nene yelped.
He pulled her backpack off her back, and stood over her.
"Now listen here, shy stutterer, you want us to leave you alone? Then stop stuttering, it's annoying!"
Tears threatened to spill out of Nene's eyes, and all Emu could do was aggressively try to get out of the hold she was in.
"Ohh? Are those tears? Hah! Crybaby!"
"*sniff* I-I'm sure you cry too, genius..." Nene mumbled.
"What did you say?!"
"I... I said, I'm sure you cry too, genius!" Nene spat out.
"Oh yeah? Cry to this!" The bully said, as he slapped Nene hard on the cheek.
"Gah!" Nene cried in pain, countless tears falling from her eyes.
'Wait... Did he just slap Nene-chan...?' Emu thought, her eyes widening.
'He SLAPPED NENE-CHAN!!'
Emu was boiling. That never happens too, thanks to her bubbly and happy personality. But she just wasn't having it today.
She lifted her leg, and kicked one of the bully's legs, causing that bully to let go, and yell in pain. Then she used all her strength, and pushed the second bully really hard, causing him to fall roughly on the ground.
Emu ran to the leader, and kicked him in his side, watching him fall over harshly.
"Y-You're crazy! Let's get out of here!" The leader announced, as his loyal tyrants ran away with him.
Nene just watched it all, and she was very shocked. She never saw Emu like that, which sends a shiver down her spine. Was that really Emu? Or was it an angry monster possessing her at this very moment?
"Phew... Nene-chan! Are you okay?!" Emu cried out, switching back to her energetic personality.
'S-She just switched back just like that? Oh well, at least she's not scary anymore..." Nene thought in relief.
'Y-Yeah! I'm fine... Emu, that was amazing! I never saw you so mad!'
"Hehehe, I never knew I had it in me! I guess I got really mad when that meanie slapped you!"
Emu cheered, proud of herself.
"Ah! Nene-chan, your cheek is reaaally red..."
"I-I mean, I did get slapped after all..." Nene looked away.
Emu then lifted up her hand, and massaged Nene's cheek. She was so close too...
"Woah... Even though you got slapped, your cheek is so soft!"
Nene was becoming pink, flustered by how close Emu was, and how her soft hands were massaging her cheek.
"Does it hurt, Nene-chan?"
"A little bit..."
"Well then! I'm just gonna..."
Emu then went closer to Nene, planting a tender, soft kiss on Nene's cheek.
"H-Huh?! E-Emu-!"
"Hehe! Well? Does it still hurt now, Nene-Chan?" Emu smiled kindly at Nene.
"N-No, not anymore..." Nene stuttered from embarrassment.
"Okay, good! Let's go home now, Nene-chan!"
Emu said standing up, as she reached her hand out to Nene with a bright smile.
Nene took that hand, and stood up. They both grabbed their backpacks, and put them back on.
"Remember, you still gotta teach me how to use that thingy!"
"Haha, you mean the first-aid kit?"
"Yeah! The first-aid kit!"
"Okay, okay, I'll teach you." Nene said, as they started to walk again, hand in hand.
'When you're around, all of my pains go away, Emu.' Nene thought, smiling slightly.
