The only reason May was even going to a Halloween costume party was because she got tricked into it.
Okay, that’s not exactly accurate. Her new roommates were all going to it and somewhat peer pressured her into attending. She had wanted to stay and study for her history exam (it was the next day and she’d barely started revising). Her roommates hadn’t exactly wanted to let her stay in on Halloween of all nights. They’d run out and bought her a costume, leaving her with no choice but to go.
And fine, it was a pretty cool costume.
The house party was pretty crowded when they’d arrived, doors opened and people hanging out both inside and out. Costumes in all shapes and sizes could be seen on every person, with some abandoned pieces already discarded on the porch railings and on the ground. Plastic weapons littered the sidewalk, the final remains of what had probably been an epic drunken battle that she would probably find on Tiktok the next day.
Once they got inside, Amanda headed off to grab them drinks while the rest of them took up residence against a wall. May kept her head on a swivel, hearing people randomly call out “Mayday!” as they walked passed.
“So…” May gave Emily a quick look. “I’m assuming there’s a reason you had me leave off the mask?”
Emily shrugged. As the resident comic lover, she had been the one who had loud debates in their hall regarding characters. “Mayday Parker, Spider-Man’s daughter. I love her storyline in the comics. Figured I could play off your name.”
May laughed. “Okay, that’s fair.” She made a mental note to send a pic to the 118 group chat. Someone would get a kick out of her costume, she just knew it.
