Chapter Text

Okay so this character is a Pokémon oc of mine named Pearl Duellum! So I should probably talk about her first.

Pearl is an 8 year old girl from the Kanto region! Her mom Shelia works as a pokemon professor alongside her brothers Alder and Apollo usually leaving Pearl alone with her cousins Flint and Shrub! Due to her mom's living of researching pokemon they travel to many different regions and rarely spend any time in Kanto!

Despite rarely being home Pearl is nowhere near unhappy with her life! Reason for that mainly being because of her extended

Pearl's team consists of her partner Wishiwashi, a pokemon she caught in the Alola region. He's very polite and can be rather adventurous but it still always by Pearl's side within his little fishbowl!

Gyarados, who Pearl found while fishing in Kanto! Despite her scary appearance Gyarados is actually very caring and loyal, usually found intimidating other pokemon away from her trainer.

Frillish, who was actually a gift from her cousin Mary from the Galar region. Well her mom's cousin but not the point! Compared to the rest of Pearl's team Frillish is quite posh! She only has a taste for shiny and fancy items, not to mention always loves to scare and tease others!

Finally there's Sobble! Sobble was also a gift to Pearl but he was from her mom while they were staying in the Galar region! Sobble is typically seen as the baby brother of the team since he's very shy, easily scared and absolutely hates being by himself!

Something important to note about the Duellum family is that a long, long time ago their ancestors served sorta as like representatives for certain legendary pokemon throughout the region! Their main job was basically to prevent anything like this from happening:

Though over the years the family have slowly lost touch with the legendary pokemon and eventually it was forgotten. Though in today's time while the family do have minor connections with the legendary pokemon again it's absolutely nothing like how it was before. Now if anything it's quite tense, luckily it's a bit more relaxed when it comes to younger members of the family

It was a peaceful day in the Kanto region, a very nice day, and one of the few days Pearl Duellum was actually home. Though after a long time of traveling from region to region it was probably for the best to have a relaxing day at home. It was a simple day for Peal at the beach with her mother, uncles, cousins and of course her pokemon!

"Hey Frillish no splashing!" Pearl playfully said as her as her Frillish merely giggled before sending another splash of water to her trainer. Then Gyarados sped right towards her trainer from behind, quickly yet still carefully grabbed her by the shirt and threw her onto her back.

"Woah! Gyarados if you wanted a ride you could have asked!" Pearl said holding onto Gyarados' fin she called out to her mom who was sun bathing "Mom! I'll be on a ride with Gyarados!"

"Alright sweetie! Just watch out for any wild pokemon swimming around," Shelia called out. Giving a nod in response Pearl held on tight as Sharpedo wasted no time speeding off as Frillish followed behind, Soble tried to stay on Pearl's hat and Wishiwashi enjoyed the ride within his bowl. It was all going so well, until everything went downhill... The sky got cloud, then it started getting a bit windy.

"Um, Gyarados, I think we should go ba-" Pearl said as the loud roar of thunder interrupted her, then rain began to pour, and as if things couldn't get worse a whirlpool had suddenly appeared which was bow pulling Pearl and her pokemon in. Gyarados tried her hardest to escape the whirlpool, Pearl tightly held Frillish's hand, Soble was now hiding in Pearl's hat and Wishiwashi was shivering at the bottom of his bowl.

"Gyara! Gyarados!" Gyarados called out to her trainer and team fellow members. Though despite her efforts to stick close to her pokemon the storm was strong enough to blow Pearl right off Gyarados' back along with Wishiwashi as the two were sucked into the whirlpool. Soble ended up falling off of Pearl's hat and into the water, before getting sucked in right after. Immediately panic broke out with the two remaining pokemon as Frillish desperately called out "Frill! Frill!" Immediately Gyarados swam right into the whirlpool without a second thought as Frillish joined her only a few seconds later. Then once all pokemon and their trainer were gone the harsh winds stopped, the sky was blue again and the sea was calm.

It was as if nothing happened.

Chapter Text

"Pearl? Pearl wake up please... Pearl!" A small male voice was heard. Pearl gasped as she quickly sat up before immediately holding her head in pain.

"Ow, ow..." She muttered looking at her now blood covered hand.

"Be careful Pearl! I don't think moving around is a good idea..." The male voice said. Pearl looked around to find herself on a small sandy island with a few palm tree and rocks, one of which was now covered in blood which probably explains the head pain. However the owner of the voice was nowhere to be seen.

"Who's there?" Pearl asked in a hoarse voice to which the voice said "Down here Pearl!" Pearl turned to the direction of the voice, and saw Wishiwashi poking his head out of his fishbowl.

"Wait, Wishi... You can," Pearl slowly said as Wishiwashi asked in disbelief "Pearl, you can understand me? Like, you know what I'm saying?!"

"I, I can! Wishi, what happened?" Pearl asked holding Wishiwashi's fishbowl.

"I don't know, the whirlpool sucked us in and we woke up here, my tail hurts..." Wishiwashi said resting to the bottom of his bowl. Pearl scooted over so she can lean beside the palm tree and said in a weak voice "My head hurts too.. Maybe, we should rest, for a bit..."

Just like that the young girl and her small fry pokemon were asleep. Apparently getting sucked through a whirlpool and waking up on a random island with a bad injury can take a lot of energy out of you.

"There you go! You're fin should be good as new now!" Peso happily said after bandaging an injured fish.

"Oh my! It is feeling better! Thank you so much!" The fish said before swimming away. Peso let out a small huff as he watched to fish swim off as Captian Barnacles said "Good work today Peso! The storm has done a lot of damage but I think we're almost done here! Kwazii! Could you drive the Gup-B to the nearby islands to see if there's any more creatures that may need our help?"

"Aye aye captian!" Kawzii said immediately jumping into the Gup-B and dashing off at full speed. A few minutes of inspecting go by and so far nothing of note has been found on the island, all but one is currently unchecked. Kwazii went up to the surface and stopped the Gup-B before jumping out onto the sound.

"Yeeow! The last island! Small one though... Don't think there's anyone here tha- Shiver me whiskers!" Kwazzi said as he walked around the island for only a few seconds before seeing a small creature sitting by a palm tree with a bleeding head and odd fish in a fishbowl. At first Kwazii didn't know what to do! He couldn't even tell if the creature and fish were still alive! He poked her ever so slightly causing her to stir a bit before wincing in pain while the fish moved a bit when he felt the water move. Though both of them were still unconscious. Kwazii let out a small sigh of relief to know that the two were still alive, but he knew that they were also still far from alright. Pressing the radio button on his collar he said "Kwazzi to Octonauts! Can you hear me?"

Now riding the Gup-A with Peso Barnacles pressed the radio and said "We hear you loud and clear Kwazzi! What is it?"

"I just discovered some strange creature and a little fish on an island! Both of them aren't looking very well!" Kwazzi said turning to the two before looking back off to the sea.

"Copy that, we'll be right there," Barnacles said turning off the radio with Peso saying "I wonder what kind of creature Kwazzi is talking about."

Sometime goes by and soon enough the Gup-A arrives to the shore of the island with Barnacles and Peso exiting the gup.

"Captian! Peso! Over here mateys!" Kwazzi called out waving his fellow Octonauts over while blocking them from seeing the unknown creature.

"Kwazzi, where is the creature?" Barnacles asked as the two walked over. Kwazzi looked back at the creature for a bit before turning back to Barnacles and Peso before stepping aside to show them. Understandably the two were quite surprised when they saw the creature, and more so when they noticed her condition.

"Flappity flippers!" Peso said and immediately rushed to the creature and opened his medical bag.

"Kwazzi what exactly happened to them?" Barnacles asked to which Kwazzi said in response "I'm not sure captain! I just found these two like this! I don't even know what the girl is!"

"I'm not sure either," Barnacles said as Peso went over and said "I was able to bandage their injuries but we should bring them back to the Octopod for them to heal properly!"

"Alright then, I'll carry them to the gup and we'll head back to the Octopod," Barnacles said gently picking the creature in a piggyback ride while making sure the little fish in the fishbowl was also okay. Once they all made it make back to the Gup-A Barnacles carefully sat the creature down while Peso took the fishbowl and set it down next to the creature.

"Kwazzi! Sound the Octoalert!" Barnacles said to which Kwazzi nodded and immediately jumped to the Octoalert pressing it. "Octonauts! To the H.Q!" Barnacles said

Once the Octonauts who were currently on the Octopod reported to the H.Q Barnacles then spoke saying "Octonauts, Kwazzi has found on unknown injured creature and small fish washed up on island. We're currently bringing them with us back to the Octopod for further treatment. For now Inkling, Shellington, what do you make of these two?" Barnacles then allowed the screen to display the creature before turning to the fish.

"Hm, the girl I haven't have the fainted clue on what she may be. However I can say for a fact she's no sea creature. Why I can't see a single trait to help live in the ocean! No scales, fins, tail, or even gills," Professor Inkling stated with Shellington adding "And as for the fish I'm never seen anything like it before! It must be a new species!"

"Well whatever they are I doubt they're anywhere from here, so for now try to figure out where their home it! Barnacles out!"

"If she's not a sea creature, why was she on that island? I don't think it's a good place to live in, not to mention she looks really young," Peso said with concern in his voice as Barnacles suggested "The storm might have swept her off onto that island, let's just hope she isn't too far from home."

Chapter Text

After awhile they have all returned to the Octopod and now all the Octonauts have gathered in the infirmary and watched as Peso treated creature and fish again.

"Her head is a bit worse that I thought, she also has a slight sunburn on her arms but a change of bandages and this cream should help with that!" Peso said before walking over to the fish who was now in a large fish tank saying "And the fish should be waking up soon! He just needed to be in cleaner water!"

"Good work Peso! Shellington, Inkling, have you two found any information about them?" Barnacles asked to which Shellington said "Unfortunately no Captian, there's been nothing like them seen before."

"We've checked many books within the library, but still no information about them," Inkling added. "Well, I suppose all that's left now is to wait for them to wake up," Barnacles said and soon enough one by one each Octonaut has left the infirmary.

"Hmmm... I'm running low on bandages, there should be some extra in my room!" Peso said before leaving the infirmary himself, though stopping for a brief second to look at his current patients. Meanwhile in H.Q of the Octopod the Octonauts were currently sitting in their usual spots as usual.

"Captian, seeing that fish up close while I still can't figure out what species it is I'm able to make a few hypotheses about its lifestyle!" Shellington said before explaining "Since it's colors are more of the bright side it might be from a more tropical area, perhaps even a coral reef! I also believe they aren't suppose to be alone, with how shiny its scales were it'd be impossible for it to hide from predators alone! So it must be similar to that of sardines who usually swim in large schools together for protection! I still don't know why that other creature has a single one however. However we still may get some clues if we look for other schools of fish!"

"Good idea Shellington! Dashi, try to find as many schools of fish as you can that are near us and see if any of them look like our mystery fish," Barnacles said.

"Aye aye captian," Dashi said as she activated the Octopod's radar. There was a school of sardines, a school of marlins, even a school chromis, however none of them looked like the unique mystery fish.

"This might be more difficult than I thought..." Barnacles muttered to himself

Chapter Text

"Ugh... My tail... It... It feels better?" Wishiwashi asked confused as he finally woke up before immediately noticing the very big change of scenery compared to his fishbowl, the small island, and... Pearl! Where's Pearl?! Frantically looking around he finally spotted his young trainer laying on a medical bed, bandaged up but still unconscious. With a quick sigh knowing his friend will probably be alright Wishiwashi looked around a bit, it was obvious they were in some kind of medical area, but it didn't look like any Poké Center he knew of!

"Hm... My tail feels better, I don't think a look around would kill me," Wishiwashi told himself, looking around one more time to make sure the coast was clear before jumping out of the fish tank. Once he was out he repeated flopped his body around until he reached the door of the room which opened automatically.

"Wow! Fancy!" Wishiwashi commented before flopping out of them room into the hallway of, well wherever he was. He flopped around aimlessly until he reached a small orange, something.

"Huh, maybe it's a window?" Wishiwashi suggested to himself, flopping onto the edge before it opened to reveal a tube type of chute, which he immediately fell into.

"Woah!" Wishiwashi exclaimed as he went through the tube and was practically thrown out into a much bigger room, with a bunch of walking and talking creatures that didn't look like anything humans nor pokemon.

"Captian, I've checked the surrounding area with Shellington's theories about the fish! While I couldn't find any schools it may belong to but I did find a few coral reefs! The storm might of swept him away from one of them," a brown creature that slightly looked like Rockruff said.

"That should be a good place to start! Dashi, set a course for the closest coral reef," A white creature, that looked like a much more friendly Beartic said. 'Huh, they must be helping us. That's really nice of them! But, what even are they?' Wishiwashi thought to himself before flopping around the room a bit, unto he accidentally landed right onto an orange tail.

"Yeow! What was that?!" The orange creature asked before immediately looking down at Wishiwashi. The two stared at each other for a moment until Wishiwashi let out a nervous laugh and said "Um, sorry 'bout that mister."

"Shiver me whiskers, captian! Looks like the little fishy woke up!" The orange creature said carefully picking up Wishiwashi, the other creatures stood up and gathered around.

"Shouldn't you be in water matey?" The orange creature asked with the white creature adding "And did you get from the infirmary all the way to H.Q?"

"Oh um, I'm fine! All water type pokemon can survive land, we're just not as fast, it took me quite awhile to flop my way here..."

"A water type, pokemon? Is that what you are?" A creature with a blue bag asked to which Wishiwashi said "Oh, no sir. All creatures are pokemon, I'm a Wishiwashi!" This has confused the creatures as the blue bag one stated "I've never heard of the term pokemon..."

"Well what's your name little matey?" The orange creature asked before Wishiwashi answered with "Oh, um... A lot of pokemon go by the name of their species! Though my trainer and friends usually call me Wishi!"

"Trainer? Would that happen to be the girl you were found with?" The white creature asked.

"Yes! That's my trainer, Pearl! Is she gonna be alright?" "Don't worry! She's alright, all she needs is some rest," the white creature said before adding "Though we must ask, what exactly is she? We've never seen anything like her before!"

"Oh, she's a human!" Wishiwashi happily answered. The creatures were all silent before turning to the creature with the blue bag who was already flipping through the pages.

"Strange... There's no information of a creature called that!" He stated which confused Wishiwashi.

"Well that's, weird... Humans are all over the place! Though for now, can you take me back to Pearl please? This must be really confusing for her and a lot of the time whenever she's alone she-" Wishiwashi abruptly stopped talking however when a scream followed by a crash was heard from the Octopod.

"... Panics," Wishiwashi finished

Pearl didn't really know what was going on. One second she was sucked into a whirlpool, the next second she was on an island with a head injury and in the current second she was in an unknown room with an odd creature that resembled a Piplup! So to say the least, she wasn't exactly in the right mindset after going through a whole ordeal like this at the age of eight. So now she was currently pressing herself against the corner of the room, frantically looking around while the Piplup creature was trying his best to keep calm himself.

"Pl-Please calm down!" He said in a pleading tone before adding "You shouldn't be moving too much right now! You're head might get worse!"

"I, I just don't know what's happening!" Pearl said in response immediately recoiling and pressing herself further into the room's corner when the Piplup creature tried to step closer, causing him to step back as well. That's when the door of the room opened, and even more strange bipedal creatures came in, though at this point Pearl has her eyes shut tight. However she quickly opened her eyes when she heard a familiar voice, even if she had only actually heard thr voice for a brief period of time.

"Pearl!" Wishiwashi called out before the orange Meowth like creature that was holding him carefully placed him on the ground. Wishiwashi wasted no time flopping over to his trainer! As he approached Pearl quickly cupped her hands which Wishiwashi jumped into and looked up at her.

"Thank Arceus you're okay Wishiwashi! You weren't in your bowl and I was so scared that-" Pearl abruptly stopped talking however when Wishiwashi interrupted her saying "Pearl I'm glad to see you're okay too but please you need to calm down right now! Take some deep breaths, like your mom taught you! In, and out... In, and out..."

Wishiwashi motioned taking deep breaths, since obviously a fish pokemon can't actually do that on land, as Pearl watched at first but inevitably joined her pokemon. It took a couple of breaths but soon enough Pearl had finally managed to calm down, much to the relief of Wishiwashi as well as the creatures who were still in the room with them. Pearl turned to the creatures and glanced at Wishiwashi in confusion to which he said "Don't worry Pearl! They're really friendly! This is... Uh..."

"Right, I don't think there was a chance for proper introductions," the Beartic looking creature said stepping forward. He kneeled down to Pearl's eye level before saying "I am Captian Barnacles of the Octonauts, and the ones here are Kwazzi, Peso, Dashi and Shellington. You're name is Pearl right? Your friend Wishiwashi explained some stuff to us but we're still a bit puzzled. How about you rest here in the infirmary a bit longer and once you're ready you can meet us in the H.Q to sort things out?" He offered his paw to Pearl who was still a bit hesitant but ended up taking it as he helped her get back on her feet while Wishiwashi dove back into his fishbowl.

"You can sit down here while I give you some fresh bandages!" Peso said guiding Pearl back to the medical bed which she carefully sat on as the other Octonauts left the room. Though a big question still swam through her mind, just where exactly is she?

Chapter Text

After about 45 minutes or so Pearl and Wishiwashi were starting to feel better! Granted she still needed to wear bandages but she was well enough to be lead to the H.Q of the Octopod by Peso.

"Ah it's good to see you're both feeling better!" Barnacles said as Pearl and Peso went up the ladder into the H.Q with Wishiwashi still in his fishbowl.

"Thank you Captian," Pearl said with a smile as she walked over to Barnacles once she finished climbing the ladder with Wishiwashi poking his head out of the water in his bowl and asking "So what did you need to talk about?"

"Well first I was hoping if you both can perhaps explain a bit more about, well, what exactly you are," Barnacles said walking over to the table in the H.Q as Pearl followed him. They both took a seat as Pearl took the strap of Wishiwashi's fishbowl off her shoulder, placing the bowl on the table so her fishy friend could also join in on the upcoming conversation.

"Mhm! I tried to explain them earlier that I was a pokemon and you're a human Pearl!" Wishiwashi said as Barnacles added "However we've never heard of creatures like that before. Professor Inkling and Shellington have been searching the library and lab for a good while now to look for clues but none were able to be found. So perhaps you two could give an explanation? Or more importantly..." Barnacles paused to spread out a map of the world onto the table and continued "Where you two come from!"

Looking at the map puzzled expressions were clear on both Pearl and Wishiwashi, yet still also looks like he's on the verge of tears. The two turned to each other, then to the map, back to each other, then back to the map.

"May I hold this for a bit?" Pearl politely asked to which Barnacles said with a nod "Of course!" Pearl slid the map over to her side of the table and held it up so Wishiwashi could also see it. After about half a minute or so of exchanged whispers between trainer and pokemon Pearl finally set the map back down on the table.

"So, were you two able to pinpoint where your home is?" Barnacles asked, though given the expressions in their faces the answer should have been obvious. Considering the fact that Pearl was only a child, and fish like Wishiwashi usually don't read maps he would understand if neither of them knew how to read the map, though Pearl's response was certainly not what he had expected.

"This map, doesn't look familiar," Pearl answered in a confused tone scanning it one last time. Barnacles blinked, taking a second to process what Pearl had said before asking "I'm sorry?"

"I, I study the map in my mom's lab a lot back home, and this doesn't look like the map of the world!" Pearl said as Wishiwashi merely nodded in agreement. Barnacles was dumbfounded, wouldn't the map of the literal world be the same for them? After an uncomfortable silence within the entire H.Q as the Octonauts who were there have stopped to listen to Pearl and the Captian talk, Barnacles eventually handed Pearl a paper and pencil asking "Could you maybe draw the map you're familiar with then?"

Nodding Pearl took the paper and pencil amd wasted no time beginning to doodle, with Wishiwashi occasionally adding a few pieces of advice for the drawing. By now all the Octonauts who were in the H.Q were now over at the table and standing behind their captain curious and or confused about the current situation. Several minutes of drawing later Pearl looked up and was surprised to see the rest of the Octonauts suddenly at the table but nevertheless still slid her map over to Barnacles. The captain looked at the map, held it up, and immediately had the same confused look as Pearl and Wishiwashi earlier.

"This, doesn't make sense at all," Shellington said taking both maps and putting them side-by-side adding "These two don't look similar at all! How can two people have different world map?"

"I understand it as much as you all do," Pearl said continuing with "Everything about this has been nothing but confusing! I don't even know what kind of creatures you all are either! Now with this map stuff it's almost like-" Pearl abruptly stopped talking when realization dawned on her. The Octonauts exchanged glances as the girl in front of them remained silent for a now concerning amount of time.

"Uh, you alright little matey?" Kwazzi asked with Wishiwashi asking in an equally concerned tone "Pearl?" Two beats of silence go by until Pearl finally says in a low tone if disbelief

"We're in a different world."
