Benefits to Dating

Summary:

With ever growing amounts of confessions getting in the way of your day, you have to do something about it eventually. For certain kings, it means coming to a deal to deter the persistence.

Also known as fake dating. What could possibly go wrong?

Chapter 1: Proposal

Chapter Text

The door burst open, and a purple blur launched into the room, leaving a gust of wind in its wake. Hajime skidded into a stop, using the couch to slow him from the disaster that could have been the shattering of the window. He stood there panting heavily, sweating slightly. Members of Gravi and Procella (the juniors) stared at him.

“Welcome home!” Kakeru broke the silence. “Missed us that much?” Everyone looked at him in silence, but Hajime patted his head lightly.

“I’m back…” Hajime caught his breath and took a seat.

“Everything alright?” Iku asked. He handed him a glass of water, greatly appreciated.

“Yeah… I forgot to bring a disguise before going to work by taxi.”

“Swarmed by fans?” Rui asked. He was holding Yamato in his arms. He shimmied over to Hajime, letting his cat leap onto the king’s lap. Hajime patted them both.

“Something like that. I will figure something out.” Speaking of fans, a big one returned home.

“Honey, I’m home~” Shun skipped in.

“Which one of us is the ‘honey’?” Koi asked. They all took a quick glance at Hajime.

“You all can be if you want.” Shun grinned. He stuck his hands in to his pockets and blinked. Slowly, he pulled out slightly dented cards with phone numbers written on them. “Huh. Those princesses and princes are sneaky and persistent.”

“Ah, last week, one clung to the roof of the car, trying to hand me a letter,” Kakeru recalled. “Scared me and the driver. Everyone was safe though!”

“The price of popularity,” Koi sighed. “It’s getting kind of dangerous. For us and them.”

“We’ll have to be more careful then,” Hajime said.

“Even though you forgot your disguise?” Rui asked.

“… Yes, must be more careful…”

“I’m surprised you didn’t just use your magic to avoid them,” Iku commented to his leader.

“I was in meeting with some prospective clients. It would be odd if everyone seems to just not notice me.” Shun shrugged. “And you just can’t be rude to your dear fans! Think of their feelings!”

“Ah, yes. Takes one to know one.”

               “Exactly!”

“Shun,” Hajime called as he moved the cat off of him and stood up.

“Hajime!” Shun immediately turned his full attention to his idol.

“If you have some time now, there’s some work we need to go over before tomorrow’s meeting.”

“Okay~” Shun followed Hajime out the door but turned to give a little wave on the way out. Shun observed the man he caught up with to walk side by side. “You seemed like you just had a workout.”

               “A little.”

“A love letter to strength. Or got chased by fans?”

“I’ll leave it to your imagination,” Hajime opened the door to his room. He went straight to his desk to get the upcoming promotions. Shun followed in after. “These we should talk with the others about.” He set down some scripts. “Thoughts on these?” Hajime passed the proposals over.

“Hmm, these two,” Shun set them on the table, “are fine. This one sounds good on paper, but…”

“Vague enough to go in directions we may not want,” Hajime finished. Shun winked, waving the page around.

“Bingo! I’ll ask Dai-chan to negotiate something with less loose ends.”

“Mm.” Hajime shuffled through the other pages. They were ready to be presented. Hajime stared over them in silence, but not really at them. Then a coin came into focus.

“Yen for your thoughts?” Shun asked. Hajime slowly pushed the coin back into Shun’s hand and away.

“I was just thinking about the increasingly bold fans.”

               “Their love is strong.”

               “A bit too strong…”

“Ah…” Shun went quiet with a slight smile.

“I don’t mean you, although you could at times…“ Hajime shook his head. “Nevermind.”

“… It is true that some of our fans in particular have gotten quiet handsy.” Shun took out the cards again and flicked them into the air where they vanished. “I suppose a ‘no dating’ policy wouldn’t be fair to those who do want to.”

“Then, what about pretending to be a couple?”

“Eh?” Shun turned his head slightly, leaning in to hear that again clearer.

“People are less likely to pursue someone in a relationship. That should at least make it more manageable.”

“So… You mean to lie to them and each other?”

“… What do you suggest to deter them?”

“… Telling them directly ‘not interested’ is too blunt… Would you really be ok with a fake relationship?”

“Only if you were fine with it.”

               “Eh?” Shun blinked again.

               “Are you against it?”

               “Me? Not Haru? Or-“

“It feels a bit strange to ask this of Haru…” Hajime rubbed the back of his head. “I just do not see him that way, and I fear that it would show.”

“And you’re really fine with me??? You realize what you are saying??” Shun was shaking internally at the speed of sound. It was a miracle he was even in a solid state.

“It’d be more believable, and you also have your share of trouble.” Shun went quiet for a bit, thinking about the proposal. While fake…

“If I can be of help to you then… Alright!”

“Then from today onwards until you decide no more, we are a ‘couple’.”

“… Yeah… a couple…” Shun put up a smile, but it lingered a solemn chill. “Of Kings.” A silence followed that, filling the room.

“… Yeah. I guess we are the White and Black Kings…”

A/N: Totally ignoring the other works in progress to start another work in progress. I do have something done for Yokai and Human, but it’s the part after I don’t want to do. Then I have an almost done story that’s been sitting there for weeks. I’ve just been tired and busy lately so it’s been mostly short scenes that are typically better in not story form which AO3 doesn’t like. I’ll gradually update Tsukino Agency Moments. Pretends to not notice the other stories.

Chapter 2: Handholding

Chapter Text

          Ding!

          Ding!

          Ding!

          Ding!

          Di-

Hajime grabbed the nosy phone, still dinging. He squinted at the screen. 6 AM. He looked at the notification previews. Seeing the name, he clicked it.

Shun: Hajime~

Shun: My beloved~

Shun: Wake up~

Shun: I didn’t ask yesterday but

Shun: How are we presenting our “relationship”?

          Hajime blinked at the screen.

Hajime: Good morning, Shun.

Shun: Good morning <3

Hajime: You’re usually not up this early.

Shun: :O

Shun: Someone’s paying attention~

Hajime: You and Rui always sleep in.

Shun: Sleep is wonderful!

Hajime: To answer your earlier question, we started the relationship recently.

Shun: Not a lie. What else?

Hajime: We don’t really need to say anything until asked.

Shun: Not even Gravi and Procella?

Hajime: Not even them.

Shun: They will be mad if they find out.

Hajime: If.

Shun: Who would have thought Mutsuki Hajime would choose to play pretend, fooling even his good friends?

Hajime stared at that message. His finger lingered over the keyboard but didn’t type. He wanted to say something, but it wasn’t like Shun was entirely wrong.

Hajime: It’d make it more believable.

Shun: You think we can pull this off?

Hajime: Why not?

Shun: Ok

Hajime laid in bed, staring at his phone, but no more messages appeared. He set the device down on the counter and got up and ready for the day.

          Knock knock.

Hajime finished pulling his arm through the sleeve of his jacket as he walked to the door. He opened it. His ‘boyfriend’ (without the space) stood there smiling his usual radiance. The same smile that also screamed ‘I want something’.

“A moment?” Shun requested with a little nod towards the room. Hajime stepped aside to let him in, closing the door.

          “What is it?” Hajime asked.

“Will you grant a selfish request?” The Black King could only blink at the nondescript inquiries.

“Which is?” Hajime watched Shun flash a grin and extend a hand.

          “Can we hold hands?”

“Are you cold?” Hajime wrapped around Shun’s hand. It was his naturally cool temperature.

“Well yes but no.” Shun laughed as he freed himself from the awkward iron grip. He waved his free hands about in circular motions. “I mean, hold hands as we walk. That way we show everyone that we’re together. Wasn’t that the point?”

“Ah” was all Hajime responded with. He stared at him, but really just deep in thought. Shun waited, looking at him trying to process the simple request.

“Too soon?” Shun broke the silence.

“No, it’s fine.” Hajime took Shun’s left hand, this time their fingers interlaced. “Like this?”

“Eheheheh,” Shun could barely contain himself, giggling and could quite possibly bounce off the ground with that intensity. Hajime scrunched his eyebrows at the response. He could feel the shaking in his hand.

          “Is this wrong…?”

“Hahahaha! Sorry. It’s just…” Shun covered his giggling mouth with his other hand.

          “Just…?”

“You really are the adorkable boyfriend type!”

“I’m… what?” Hajime gave a few slow blinks trying to process that information.

“Cute, almost clumsy with your first experience in love. Don’t mind, don’t mind.” Shun pulled him towards the exit, hands still linked together. “Come on or we’ll miss breakfast before the meeting.”

“Tsukishiro-san isn’t even here yet.” Hajime pulled back, leading them to the desk instead. With his free hand, he grabbed the materials they needed to present. He tried to get them into a case, but the amount of loose papers in his hand kept threatening to escape, and the case kept trying to close before all of it could get in. Shun clipped the stack of paper together and held the case open for Hajime to finally store it.

“Fufu, you could have let go,” Shun teased, wiggling their connected hands a bit. “We don’t have to hold hands all the time. There’s no one even here to see.”

“Right… Sorry…” Despite that, their hands are still latched onto each other. Shun’s hold hadn’t loosened in the slightest nor gave any signs of wanting to be freed. He probably would latch on tighter if he let his fan self go wild.

They stood there awkwardly for a while until Hajime’s phone buzzed. With that, he finally let go to answer. Shun slipped his hands into his pockets, watching the conversation.

“Hello, Tsukishiro-san? Ah, we’ll be right down.” Putting his phone away, he held out a hand towards Shun. “Let’s go.” Shun looked at the hand for a moment but accepted it with a chuckle.

“You’re really taking this seriously,” Shun teased as they headed down the stairs.

“Of course.” Hajime didn’t look at him as he said that. Shun didn’t comment anymore, although his grip tightened ever so slightly. Kurotsuki was in the driver seat with Tsukishiro in shotgun waiting for them. They both did a double take as they saw the leaders approaching.

“Good morning, you two,” the managers greeted as the two got into the backseat.

“Morning,” they answered. Kurotsuki began driving. From the rear view mirror, he could be seen opening his mouth for a moment then closing, deciding against whatever he was going to say.

“Exercising your jaw, Dai-chan?” Shun teased.

          “Oh yeah, definitely,” Dai laughed.

“You two have a busy morning but free the rest of the day,” Tsukishiro said as he looked at the schedules on his phone. “Be sure to take some time to rest.”

“Yes, of-” Hajime spoke but was interrupted.

“What if I want to go on a date after work?” It was Tsukishiro’s turn to gape like a fish.

“W-well, then you may do so,” Tsukishiro cleared his throat. “I just advise you to watch your health and set some time aside to rest.”

“It’s fine,” Kurotsuki said. “He sleeps like 10 hours a day.”

“Dai-chan knows me so well!” Shun clapped.

“It has been ten years! Gotta know how to schedule accordingly.” They turn into the garage of the building, scanning their badges at the security station. They parked and made their way upstairs where some of the other leaders were already present.

“Good morn-” Sora greeted, slowing down as he saw that ,” ing…?” He and everyone else gawked, but the rest looked away after.

          “Morning,” Hajime said.

“Morning!” Shun greeted, patting Sora on the head with his free hand.

“They’re bringing some coffee and tea soon,” Kouki informed as everyone took their respective seats at the table.

“I heard that breakfast will be onigiri, no specification on flavor,” Shu added.

“Well, can’t complain about free food,” Shiki shrugged. Sora didn’t say anything, but he kept staring at his seniors.

“What is it, Sorako?” Shun called out.

“You’re… staring rather intensely…” Hajime commented. Sora blinked and shook his head vigorously.

“Huh? Uh, sorry,” Sora dismissed. Somehow, he couldn’t bring himself to ask.

          “Shall we get started?”

After a whole morning of meetings, the leaders dispersed. ALIVE leaders went to rehearsal for a stage while SQS leaders went to dance practice. The managers went off into their own meetings. Hajime and Shun were left at the private lobby.

“These meetings seem to go by faster every time,” Shun stretched as he mused about work.

“Mm, productive too,” Hajime agreed as he looked out the window.

“Shall we head back?” The Demon King bumped shoulders lightly against the other.

“I thought you wanted to go on a date?” Shun opened his mouth to speak, but words didn’t come out. He started to forget to breathe. “Do you still want to?”

“... Are you asking me out?” He finally answered, staring seriously at him. Hajime paused. The severity of the look was making it difficult to respond.

“... You could just say no…”

“I didn’t say that!” Shun grabbed Hajime’s sleeve desperately. “Where do you want to go? What do you want to do?”

“What do you want to do?”

“I’m happy just being by your side!” The energy dropped. Hajime watched it drop from 200% to 80% as did the atmosphere. Shun let go. “Ah, I suppose if you want news to spread, I won’t use my magic to hide our presence.”

“Oh. Well, let’s not get mobbed… And I don’t think we should rush into it either.” Hajime paused between each sentence. “It will seem more natural if we gradually introduce the relationship.”

“...Right… Then…” The smile from this morning reappeared on Shun’s face. “Let’s just go home.”

“... What’s the catch?” Hajime raised an eyebrow at Shun who only brought a finger to his lips and winked.

          “Tomorrow will be another request.”

Chapter 3: Match

Chapter Text

Hajime hadn’t seen or heard from Shun since they returned to the dorms. It was awfully quiet that curiosity was eating him. He found himself lying in bed, staring at the ceiling. He glanced at the clock. It was a little past midnight.

“What is he up to?”  was all that played over and over again in his mind. He rolled over to the side. A few minutes passed. He rolled to the other side. He kept tossing and turning, mind still fully active on that one thought.

He reached for his phone, tapping on the rabbit icon.

Hajime: What are you planning?

Hajime pinched the bridge of his nose and groaned. “What am I doing…?” he muttered. By now, that slumber-loving demon was surely asleep.

         Ding!

         His eyes shot wide open.

Shun: You’ll find out tomorrow morning!

Shun: Good night sweet prince <3

Hajime: Does it have to be tomorrow?

Shun: Must you know now?

Hajime: Preferably.

Shun: Can’t sleep?

Hajime stared at the question. How he read through him.

Hajime: Perhaps.

Shun: It’s a small thing really.

Shun: Do you trust me?

Hajime: Fine. Good night.

Hajime dropped the phone on the table. All he got from that was nothing depending on Shun’s mood. He closed his eyes and tried to get as much rest as he could.

         BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP-

Hajime woke up with a gasp as the alarm blared its sirens. His fist was on the snooze button. He sat up on his bed, rubbing his face with the palms of his hands.

He picked up his phone and checked his agenda.

It was a long day as usual.

         He sighed.

“So much for rest…” Hajime grumbled as he forced himself off the bed and got ready for the day.

As if on cue, there was a knock on the door. Hajime answered it. It was time. Shun stood there smiling.

“Hajime~ LOVE!” Shun grinned. Hajime winced slightly at the pitch. “Oh?” He felt a cool surface touch the lower lids of his eyes. “You really didn’t sleep?”

“I slept for a while,” Hajime yawned.

“Don’t you have to go on TV today?”

“Yeah, some makeup will hide it.” Shun stopped him from rubbing his eyes. The Demon King snapped his fingers, and a teacup appeared in his hand. “...?”

“A little magic will hide the dark rings, but drink this for some energy.” Hajime stared at the albion tea handed to him. From years of experience, this typically never goes well. However, he was also usually immune to magic side effects. At the same time, Shun wouldn't hurt him.

After much debate, he drank the tea. It had a surprisingly pleasant flavor. A subtle herbalness to it. Almost instantly, he felt rejuvenated.

“What did you put in this?” Hajime stared at the now empty cup.”

“Sh,” Shun held a finger to his lips. “Just a little demon magic.” He winked followed by an infectious giggle.

“So what is this request?” Hajime asked.

“Eheh.” Shun stuck his hands into his coat pockets and pulled out two matching charms. Each was a mini crocheted tsukiusa with their symbols on the collar. “Ta da!”

         “These are…?”

“Matching charms!” Shun put one in the empty cp Hajime was still holding. “Couples would often match, be it clothes or whatever!” Hajime picked it up by the strap and examined the details closer. Each stitch was perfect and clean.

“Did you spend the rest of the day making these?”

         “Most of it was designing.”

“You really have a talent for crafts.”

         “Ehehe.”

“And you weren’t kidding that it was small.”

“I wouldn’t lie to you.” Shun watched Hajime fully inspect the charm. “Well?” Hajime looked up to see the anticipation. He took out his phone and looped it through the case. Shun did the same. He was glowing with happiness. Almost literally.

         Beep beep!

“Ah, I better get going,” Hajime checked the reminder.

“Have a safe trip.” Right as he got to the door, Shun echoed, “Ah. I have another request for tomorrow, but I will tell you tonight.” Hajime looked at him, mouth gaping open, wanting to speak.

“.. Ok.” He left for work.

===============================

A\N: I don’t really intend for these chapters to be long. Some might be. Some might not.

Hajime didn’t really have a reason to take out his phone so basically no one noticed the charm. For now. And Shun having such a thing isn’t at all a surprise.

Happy Albion!

Chapter 4: Name

Chapter Text

Hajime sat on the edge of his bed, one hand scrolling through his phone, the other drying his hair with a towel. He hadn’t heard from Shun yet regarding the second request. Then again, he did return late from work.

He got up, put the towel on the hanger, and exited his room. He made his way upstairs to the forbidden lair. The door was emitting its usual frost and extraordinary air. That all but evaporated when he knocked on the door.

The door opened on its own.

Unfazed, Hajime entered and spotted Shun in a robe and towel around his neck.

“Sorry, bad time?” Hajime asked, taking a step back.

“Never a bad time!” Shun laughed. “I didn’t expect you to be so eager to see me right after I got out of the shower though. Fufufu.”

         “... I didn’t know you just finished showering…”

“Fufu, are you just going to stay at the door?” Shun tilted his head towards the inner section of his room. Hajime stepped closer. He picked up the towel and helped dry Shun’s hair before the water dripped to the floor. “Eheh.”

“So what is this next request?”

“Curious are you?” Shun teased. “Well… Another thing that couples do is give each other names of endearment!” Hajime let go of the towel and blinked at him.

         “Friends do that already.”

“Not those kind of nicknames,” Shun pouted lightly. He waved a finger left and right. “Take your pick: honey?”

         Hajime stared at him.

         “Sweetie?”

         Hajime stared at him.

         “Dear?”

         Hajime stared at him.

         “Darling?”

         Hajime stared at him.

         “Love?”

         Hajime stared at him.

         “Beloved?”

         Hajime stared at him.

         “King?”

         Hajime stared at him.

         “... What do you suggest?”

         “... Shun.”

         “... Shunko?”

         “... Shun.”

         “...ko?”

“...Shun.” Shun gave him an angry pout.

“You can just say no to this…” He crossed his arms and turned away.

“... I can’t pick…” Shun looked back at Hajime who appeared lost and confused. His inexperience in the field despite his suggestion really showed. Shun stifled a laugh.

“Alright, how about I pick for you?” Hajime observed him intently but neither accepted nor denied the offer. “‘Dear’. Is that fine, love?”

         “... Okay…” Hajime sighed.

“I want to hear you say it tomorrow.” Shun tugged lightly on Hajime’s shirt to make sure he had his attention.

“... I will try… Good night.” Hajime plucked Shun’s hand off and left the room. Outside the door, he muttered under his breath in the tiniest voice, “dear”.

“Iku!” Koi called as he tossed an egg. The live audience cheered as Iku caught it safely.

“That’s two points!” The host called. For every successful catch in the live event, Gravi and Procella earn 1 point, which is 50,000 yen for charity. Half a point if the egg is damaged upon catch. The points double if they remember to call the other by name, be it nickname or their actual name. There were a total of 24 eggs, so a possible 2,400,000 yen.

“Rui!” Kakeru called. He gave a few swings to feel the trajectory before letting go. Rui stayed in place with his hands out. The egg landed right in his hands, but the impact tipped him back slightly. Kai got ready to support, but Rui regained his balance on his own.

         “Another 2 points!”

“Yoru!” Aoi called as he pitched.

“Y-yes!” Yoru said as he caught the egg, but it cracked, the yolk dying his white gloves. “Sorry!”

“Don’t mind!” They all supported including the audience.

“1 point,” the host kept track.

“You, counting on you,” Arata gave him a nod.

“Of course,” You grinned, nodding back. On cue, Arata pitched it fast. You caught it with a spin. Miraculous, it was unscathed. The crowd went wild.

         “T-two points!” The host called.

“Huhu, K~ai~” Haru called. He pushed up his glasses, spinning the egg on his palm.

“Any time, Haru,” Kai cracked his knuckles and got ready. Despite how it appeared, Haru gingerly tossed the egg, and Kai carefully received it.

         “Two points,” The host counted.

“-uh,” Hajime choked as he threw the egg. The words clung onto his throat stubbornly. Shun caught the egg easily, but the look he gave the Black King. He and everyone else stared at Hajime who malfunctioned. The audience gasped and went utterly silent.

“Come on…” Arata tried to encourage. Shun put his free hand against his hip and waited.

“You don’t wanna make that mistake,” Kai insisted.

“Yean, you don’t want to forget your counterpart’s name,” Haru repeated, looking at Kai who glanced away, whistling.

“Uh…” Hajime’s brain went into windows shut down. “... White King…” Hajime managed to stammer out.

“Unfortunately, that was really late, so 1 point,” the host said.

         “Sorry, guys,” Hajime sighed.

“Next time!” they dismissed. Shun stared at Hajime with a disappointed look, but said nothing. It was Procella’s turn now, specifically Shun’s. He tossed the egg in his hand, other hand still on his hip. He was unconventionally quiet, and it was colder than it was five minutes ago. Everyone felt like they were witnessing the Demon King, true to his title.Hajime took a deep breath and braced himself. A menacing smile crept on Shun’s face.

“Ha-ji-me LOVE!” Shun declared as he threw the egg. Hajime caught the fast pitch, somehow safely. Just barely however.

“Two points,” the host broke up the tension. They finished up the segment with the second half. Hajime only referred to him by name, and Shun acted normal the rest of the time before they went onto their other jobs.

Between work, Hajime fiddled with his phone.

Hajime: I’m sorry, Shun. We’ll talk about it later.

He didn’t get a response. Not then nor several breaks later.

“Hajime with a cute phone charm?” Kakeru stared at the tsukiusa dangling in sight.

“Is that a new merchandise line?” Koi squinted at it.

“How cute,” Haru noted. “Hajime.” Hajime looked up at his partner. “Where did you get that phone strap?”

         “Shun gave it to me.”

“Come to think of it,” Aoi spoke up. “Shun had the same one.”

“He made it.” Hajime simply answered, ignoring all the stares. “Back to work.” He went first back inside the studio.

“... You know, I think I saw them holding hands the other day,” Arata whispered before he also passed through the doors. Tsukishiro stared into the distance. A memory flashed before him.

“I’m sorry, Shun,” Hajime apologized, bowing 90 degrees towards Procella’s leader in his room. Shun crossed his arms.

“I’m not mad. I’m just disappointed,” Shun clarified.

“I felt embarrassed saying such things in public,” Hajime confessed. “ I much prefer calling you by your name. Even for White King only fit certain occasions.“ Shun let out a long sigh and relaxed.

“Fine, it was cute seeing you stammer on stage anyhow.” He shrugged and sat down on his bed. “Then I propose an alternative.”

“Alternative?” Hajime’s eyes trailed after Shun’s movement. He had that smile again.

“I still want to hear you say it, but this time, it’ll just be between the two of us. Like when we greet each other upon return or bid goodbye on departure. Alright?”

“... I’m back… dear.” Shun let out a sharp squeal and was starting to evaporate as well.

         “YES!” Shun cheered. “HAJIME LOVE!”

“You see, that’s very normal for you to say,” Hajime noted.

“Oh? Then, take your pick: honey, darling, dear, sweetie, my king-” Hajime pressed his lips into a thin line at each option.

“... How about you just take my name out of it then we’re on even grounds?”

         “Hehe. Welcome back, love?”

“Sometimes I wonder if you feel any embarrassment,” Hajime sighed again as he leaned against the wall.

“I told you before, I’d seize any opportunity like this with you.”

“So is this the request for tomorrow?”

“Until you get used to it.” Shun laid back on his bed.

“No more requests?” Hajime raised an eyebrow.

“I didn’t say that.” Shun rolled over to face him. “No need to rush, right?”

“Right.” Hajime pushed himself off the wall and made his way towards the exit. At the door, he paused, “Good night, dear.” He stepped out before Shun combusted.

AN: If you didn’t watch the 48 hour livestream, Kai blanked out on his turn to say Haru’s name, and Haru walked on stage upset. Kai got on his knees to apologize. It was so funny. They made up though. It’s all good. In this case, Hajime didn’t forget, he just couldn’t get the word out. Maybe his pet name should have been Hajimeko.

Chapter 5: Linked

Chapter Text

A few weeks had passed since the dating first began. The couple had held hands while moving from place A to place B every now and then. It caught many eyes, but no one dared comment or ask about it to either of their faces. The charms have stayed on their phones since introduction in its original condition. Hajime and Shun have gotten into the habit of stopping by each other’s rooms in the morning and night to fulfill the third request.

“I’m back, my love,” Shun grinned from the door.

“Welcome back, dear,” Hajime said without looking up from his script. He had adjusted to the term, and it no longer casted a wave of embarrassment. At least in the current conditions.

          “Eheh.”

          “Sounds like you had fun.”

“Oh, every day! I am ever so grateful for this life!” Shun stretched out his arms and twirled in the room. He leaned against the back of Hajime’s chair, peeking over his shoulder. “New acting gig?”

          “Mm. Just for an episode.”

“Eheh, no matter what you wear, you’ll always look so handsome!”

          “Even if I’m in rags?”

          “Even if you’re in rags.”

“Ha. Thanks.” Shun waited patiently for Hajime to finish reading, taking a seat on the bed. When he did finish, Gravi’s leader turned to face him. “What is it?” There it was. That smile. “Oh.”

          “Are you ready?”

          “What is it?”

“Fufufufu.” Shun held his hands in a ‘V’ shape against his cheeks. “I want to link arms and such!”

“... We already hold hands?” Hajime tilted his head at the request.

“Not the same!” Shun stood up and pulled Hajime to his feet. “Something… like.. this!” Shun slipped his arm around Hajime’s so that the pit of their arms linked like chains. “And this!” Shun shifted so that he was basically hugging his arms. “And then it’s also easier to do the first request!” Shun shifted again so while he was still hugging Hajime’s arm, their hands were also interlaced.

“It’d be harder to work,” Hajime noted.

“True, but I’m not expecting this to be often. Just when it feels right.” Shun let go and shrugged. “Doesn’t have to be tomorrow or the day after. Just whenever.”

          “Alright.”

“Ehehe. Thank you for taking my selfish requests.”

“Mine was just as selfish.” Hajime shrugged. “Although, you have seemed happier over the past month.”

“Because I’m spending more time with you, and you’re indulging me!”

“Is that so?” Hajime looked at him. Shun was genuinely very satisfied.

“How has this been working out?”

          “Hm?” Hajime scrunched his eyebrows.

“You know, the confessions and all.”

“Ah.” Hajime leaned back into his seat and looked up as he reflected. He had not been paying it much heed. He stayed quiet for a moment and really thought about it. “In the beginning, it was about the same since we had not been out, however, it has been decreasing with just these gestures. We had not even said anything nor been asked about it.”

“I see.” Shun tapped his foot.

“Are you still getting sneaky letters?” Hajime asked.

“Less so.” Shun shrugged. “Although, some have changed tactics to just holding out signs professing their love instead! Others have taken to the mail.”

“Ah, right. The mail is a common one.” Hajime nodded.

“A fan’s love is intense,” Shun murmured looking out the window. Beyond the mask of a smile, there was a bittersweetness that ran to his core. “But some of these have become more than that. Sometimes that line blurs.”

“Shun?” Shun turned his head back at the call. He shared a grin.

“Hey, Hajime? Is this really what you want?”

“Shun, if you don’t want to do this, it’s fine.” Hajime reached out and placed his hand over Shun’s.

          “I didn’t say that.”

“Then whenever you want to stop, it’s fine. For this, let’s take our time.” Shun broke the air with a chuckle. He sandwiched the hand on his with another hand.

“Ok~ I still have another selfish request to ask, but that’s for another time.”

“I wonder what it will be…?” Hajime jokingly sighed.

“Fufu, you’ll see. No rush, right?” Shun got up and latched onto the other. “Don’t chicken out on me, ok?”

“That was only that day,” Hajime assured.

“Hehe, I won’t be so forgiving next time!”

“You say that, but you’re so full of love that you’re bound to forgive,” Hajime retorted, nudging him lightly so he could stand up.

“Mmm, I do love the world,” Shun rolled his eyes. “But I won’t make it easy to receive my forgiveness!”

“Is that supposed to be a challenge?”

“Are you going to try?” Shun gasped, letting go.

“Hm…” Hajime paced around a bit. “No. Anyways, go to bed.” Hajime guided Shun to the door. “Good night, dear.”

“Boo… Fine. Good night, love.” Shun skipped away. Koi, who saw and heard all that, dropped his phone.

At the end of their stage performance, Shun being Shun latched onto Hajime as he did his outro. That shifted into just linking arms that somehow linked with others until the whole cast were chained together.

“Everyone,” Hajime called. “Thank you for your support!” The cast repeated the words as they bowed in a wave effect.

Unfortunately for them, the entanglement really entangled their costumes. The detailed trinkets caught a hold of one another that they were unable to detach. With nervous laughter, they played along as they conga lined off stage.

“Ow, ow, ow!” Kakeru looped as his costume tangled with his hair extensions. The more Koi tried to free himself, the more it tugged Kakeru and Aoi, whose shirt was caught.

“Stop struggling!” You ordered. “You’re making it harder!” They managed to get out of the thin hallways but all the moving caused them to topple over like dominos.

“Oh that’s my left cheek..” Arata grumbled, landing on his butt.

“That’s my back…” Aoi said as he bumped into the clothes rack.

“That’s my everything,” Kai groaned as he caught Rui and half of Iku from hitting the floor.

“Let’s just wait for the staff…” Hajime ordered. He groaned as he hit the ground but caught both Shun and Haru.

“Yeah…” Haru said as he rolled off to a flat surface. “Does anyone see my glasses?”

“I caught it!” Shun assured, wiggly it in his hand. “But, I’m stuck!” He somehow ended up wrapped up in the long pieces of fabrics on their costumes. He was essentially a worm at the moment. The staff began their rescue mission for both ends of the chains.

“Good thing this was our last performance,” Iku joked, seeing the state of some of the props and costumes thanks to the mess.

“It’s kind of crazy how we can run around and act in that but just linking our arms like that caused all this,” Yoru commented.

“Yep, not doing that again,” You said.

“Sorry staff,” they all said and bowed. They all stretched and yawned as they made their way to their bus. Shun was holding onto Hajime’s arm, mostly asleep. Hajime was trying to stay awake enough to get him.

“Do you need help?” Kai asked. They had to wait in the back lobby while the bus was waiting to enter the loading zone.

          “I’m alright,” Hajime said.

“Even with that appendage weighing on your arm?” You asked.

          “It’s fine.”

“You’s mean…” Shun muttered, debatably in his sleep.

“Thank you for taking care of our leader,” Yoru said. Rui elbowed Kai and pointed to the handholding. Koi looked at Kakeru, telepathically communicating. Kakeru gasped but covered his mouth to keep from making a ruckus.

“You really do spoil him,” Haru said.

“As do the rest of you,” Hajime said. The bus finally appeared, and they all got on, sitting wherever possible rather than their usual seat. Nearly the entire bus was asleep so they just let them sleep on the bus in the dorm parking.

“Linking arms was dangerous,” Hajime said.

“In those situations, yes,” Shun admitted. “That was unexpected!”

“We need to be mindful then.” Shun pursed his lips. “So no chaining.”

“Everything else ok?” Hajime paused to think.

          “I suppose so.”

“Very well. My next request isn’t dangerous.” Shun winked.

Chapter 6: Date (not clickbait)

Chapter Text

Hajime was resting against Shun’s shoulder on the couch after a long day of work. Shun quietly read through a script for their next stage. Hajime’s arm had looped around Shun’s left. Shun leisurely flip through the pages. When he finished, he started all over again.

The cycle repeated until the Demon King felt a stir.

“...mm… What time is it?” Hajime mumbled, slowly getting up off of the other.

“Morning, my love!” Shun greeted, finally setting aside the script.  Hajime groggily rubbed his face then stretched with a yawn. “It is an hour to midnight.” Hajime shook his head and looked at Shun with widened eyes.

         “It’s been four hours?”

“Yep! You seemed so relaxed and craving sleep that I couldn’t just wake you!” Shun picked up the stack of work they were sorting through before the break. He gave it a light wave. “All done, by the way.”

“It really was comfortable…” He shook his head. “Sorry for the trouble.” Hajime sat straight against the backrest, drooping eyes fighting to stay open.

“You can go back to sleep.” Shun patted his lap. “Here is fine too.”

“I think I took enough of your time and mobility,” Hajime yawned, standing up. “I’ll return to my room.”

         “It’s really no trouble!”

“Maybe another time then,” Hajime entertained the idea and let out a chuckle.

“Fufu, any time.” Hajime turned to leave. “Ah.” He paused. “It’s time for another request.” Hajime turned back and took a seat.

         “What is it?”

“This is my last request.” Shun leaned back with a content look on his face, eyes closed, a simple smile with years of peace underlying it.

“Last?” Hajime repeated. Shun gave a firm nod. “What is it?”

“A date. Just the two of us, no prying eyes. A date like a couple would.” Hajime observed Shun for subtle signs, but he was very composed. Like he had rehearsed for this to perfection.

         “Alright. When are you free?”

“The entirety of this Saturday. Or Monday evening.” Hajime took out his phone to check his schedule.

         “Saturday works. Start with lunch?”

         “It’s a date,” Shun beamed.

“It’s a date,” Hajime stood back up. “Good night, dear.”

Shun waited by the elevator. His foot was tapping against the floor in the rhythm of Tsuki no Uta (the second one) . He nodded to the silent beat. He looked up at the sound of approaching footsteps.

“Kept you waiting long?” Hajime asked.

“Not at all!” Shun dismissed. “I’d wait all eternity for you.”

         “Don’t subjugate yourself to that.”

“Wouldn’t be the first,” Shun gave a layered expression and pressed the down button behind him.

“Right… Come on.” Hajime held out a hand, and Shun took it as they went into the elevator.

Kakeru dropped his phone, witnessing that.

“Where should we go first?” Shun asked. His magic was already in the works. They walked along the common people along the busy streets, unnoticed, unbothered.

“I have a reservation for us at noon,” Hajime checked the time. Ten minutes until twelve. “So we should head there first.”

         “Reservation?” Shun repeated.

         “For lunch?”

“How romantic!” Shun swooned. “Okay, let’s go!” He began to take bigger steps forward, but Hajime pulled him back before he could cross the street.

         “Not that way.”

“Lead the way.” They took a left. They passed by the power spot they had gone to for their first ‘date’ all those years ago.

“Is it the restaurant from our first date?” Shun asked, seeing the building in sight.

“The date I thought you were joking about?”

         “That’s the one!”

“We can go there for dinner if you’d like.”

         “Oh? A long date, huh?”

         “No good?”

“If that’s the case, then there is a lot more fun in store!”

“Then, I’ll leave that to you. I’ve only planned out lunch.” Hajime guided his date to a restaurant so fancy that their nice semi casual attire was barely appropriate for the environment. “Reservation under ‘Mutsuki’,” Hajime said to the receptionist who guided them to a table by the window. It was not an incredibly busy place, but there was a moderate level of noise, low enough for them to hold their own conversation while having a nice view of the dating plaza.

“You never cease to surprise me,” Shun giggled. He took a look at the menu.

“I read that a nice restaurant for a date, especially the first, is normal?” Hajime explained as he also looked at the menu. A delayed burst of laughter emitted from Shun.

“You researched it? The dedication! I love it!” Shun wiped the tears with the back of his finger. “I would be happy with even just fast food, but I suppose this was great foresight. It is a busy bee hour for lunch!”

“Well, it’s not like we can’t afford to splurge a little.” Hajime set down the menu. “Ready to order?”

         “Yes, yes.”

“How did you manage to switch out my credit card?” Hajime replayed the scene over and over again. The waiter handed him the bill. He handed the waiter his card directly. The card returned to him, but it was Shun who had paid for the meal. Shun was sitting still the entire time.

“I didn’t,” Shun snickered. They left the restaurant. “I gave my card to the waiter as we were sitting down at the table.”

         “... I see…”

“It is simply how this works!” Shun took Hajime’s hand again. “Come on, we have much to do!” They went to the zoo. “Eat. Ehehehehe.” Shun said as he tossed some fish at the penguins.

“... Magellan…” Hajime muttered. He dangled a fish over the railing. The birds hopped and pecked at it before Hajime released it.

“They do look like Magellan.” They toss the rest of the fish they bought and sanitized before going through the rest of the zoo. They visited the lions, the monkeys, the bears and so on. The lions were lazily lounging about, only getting up once just to turn away from prying eyes. The monkeys were actively climbing and oohing about.

“Fufufu, the birds escaped,” Shun mused as a variety of birds settled on his shoulders and arms.

“They’re certainly attracted to you,” Hajime commented as he took a photo.

         “Oh, you should see yourself!”

“What do you mean? Shun gave a mischievous smile.

“Turn around~” At that, Hajime looked back to see peacocks looking at him. They flashed their elaborately colorful feathers at him and danced. “That’s my date, you silly birds!”

“...” Hajime looked at the flock. He took one step back. They took a step forward. “I’m not interested…”

“Ahhh, ever so popular! They idolize you too!”

“Do you understand them or you’re just messing with me?” Hajime raised an eyebrow at Shun who laughed.

         “What do you think?”

         “Both.”

“Eheh.” Shun snapped his fingers, and the birds dispersed back to their homes. “There’s more to do.” Next, they went to the amusement park. Rode the highest and craziest rides with no fear, rode the ferris wheel, snacked on the park treats. They stayed at the park, experiencing nearly everything, until the sun began to set.

Dinner was at the restaurant of their first ‘date’, topped with the same parfaits for dessert. After the meal, they took a stroll around the power spot where there was a festival.

“Seems like there will be a fireworks show,” Shun noted. “Want to light some?”

“Pass. I don’t think I want to see my face dyed in the sky with fireworks,” Hajime shook his head.

“Boooo. Fine. Then, do you want to keep walking or go home?” Shun twirled on his heel, coming to a stop before Hajime.

         “Not having fun?”

“It’s been the best day ever,” Shun assured. He took the other’s hand and guided it to his chest. “See? Can you feel how it races with excitement?”

“Then before we return home,” Hajime said, “I have a request.”

=======================================

A\N: The stage. They’re married, your honor. I didn’t even realize they were holding hands in one of the photos (I thought they were just holding out their arms). They really one-up the anime from should sleeping to lap sleeping. Cute foxes.

On topic, one more chapter.

Chapter 7: Fireworks

Chapter Text

“Request?” Shun repeated. “That’s rare. Well, let’s hear it.” They stood by the fountain in the center of the date spot. Couples and general people alike were walking about, chattering merrily. Hajime gave a glance over the surroundings. They really didn’t notice them.

“Shall we go to another spot first?”

“Anything you want.” Shun gave a mere shrug. Hajime took Shun’s hand and led him away from the crowd. They ended up going on a little stroll to the park and settled on a secluded hill with a clear view of the night sky. A full moon among the stars, somehow undisturbed by the city lights. “So you do want to see the fireworks!” Shun leaned against Hajime’s shoulder as they sat on the grass.

          “Ah, that’s a bonus.”

‘Hehe, so what’s your real request?”

“There’s-” A flash and explosion interrupted. The light show screamed and shouted as they raced into the sky to display works of art.

“What if Initium was painted among the masterpiece?” Shun asked as he slowly waved his hand across their vision.

“What if no?” He was met with laughter. Shun sat up to look at Hajime.

“Ahahaha. Now what were you saying?”

“There is a matter I want to discuss first before my request.” Hajime could feel the eyes studying him. Shun had always observed him, but there were times he could tell that the other leader was trying to decipher his thoughts and emotions.

          “Vague, but go on.”

          “I’ve been thinking a lot.”

          “As you always do.”

“And I think it is time to put an end to this fake relationship.” He was met with a stifling silence that even consumed the fireworks. Shun turned away from him to watch the show, his bangs covering his expression.

“Is that so? If that’s what you wish-”

          “There’s more.”

“Go on.” Shun was still avoiding his gaze. Although his tone and persona were the same, it was clear that it became a mask. Hajime took a deep breath.

“I think it’s time to end this fake relationship… because it has grown far from fake.” Shun still hasn’t turned to face him, but the air was less stifling. “... So my request is… if mutual… are you willing to start a real relationship?”

“Has this all been an elaborate plan to ask me out in such a roundabout way from the beginning?” Shun somehow concluded in a breathless gasp. Hajime was rendered speechless. “Is this a dream? Don’t wake me up if true!” The energy that had left him completely returned.

“... Shun?” Shun turned to face him, eyes absolutely sparkling. There was color to his pale cheeks. How he shook, he was on the verge of combusting and dissipating into the air. A bundle of intense emotions.

          “Say it again!”

          “It?”

          “Your request!”

“...” The strength Hajime had gathered up before was already spent. Hajime closed his eyes and took a deep breath. He opened his eyes. “Shimotsuki Shun.” He took hold of Shun's hand and brought it over his own racing heart, just as the other did earlier.

          “Yes!”

“Will you start a real relationship with me?”

“... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!” Shun tightly embraced Hajime, who instinctively wrapped his arms around him. The air became extremely frosty from the happiness, nearly snowing the park. At the same time, Hajime could feel the warmth from the overflowing love.

“Just to be clear, that is if you feel more than just a fan for me. It’s hard to tell at times.”

“Ehehehe,” Shun buried his face into the other’s shoulder. “I wonder? How long ago had I fallen for you? In this life. In the past. In our many incarnations. I know that no matter the world, no matter how you may feel in return, I will always love you.”

“I still wonder why,” Hajime laughed. THe tension of the entire confession left him. “What is it that makes you like me so much?”

          “Everything! What’s not to like?”

          “There’s bound to be some.”

“Even through your flaws, if any.” Shun let go and backed up enough to see Hajime, face to face. They rest their foreheads together. “Don’t think too hard about it.”

“Haha. Fine.” The colorful flares began to fade. “It seems we’ve wasted the whole show.”

          “This is way better..”

          “Right. Let’s go home.”

“What do you mean you two just started dating?” You looked at them with such disbelief etched onto his face. Everyone was chilling in the lounge as the leaders returned from their date and announced their new relationship. The rest of the members also looked at them in confusion and as if they were crazy.

“It is as we said, dear You,” Shun insisted.

“Are they trying to gaslight us?” Kakeru asked.

“Nah, there’s no way you just started,” Kai dismissed.

“We saw how secretly and not so secretly lovey-dovey you were being for the past month or two,” Arata shook his head.

“First-hand accounts too,” Kakeru nodded along with Koi and Arata. They had sudden flashbacks to the incidents. “Those were real sparks.”

“Acted more like a married couple at times,” Koi commented.

“You don’t need to lie to us because you didn’t tell us earlier,” Haru assured.

“We’re not joking,” Hajime insisted, baffled by the reactions.

“What? You started out fake dating or something?” Iku joked and others laughed.

“Yeah,” both leaders admitted. There was a moment of silence as they exchanged stares.

          “Funny,” Rui said.

“You don’t have to lie,” Yoru insisted. “It’s fine, really.”

“Yeah, we’re just glad you’re both happy,” Aoi said.

“... Alright, good night.” The leaders gave up and left the room.

A\N: The request was something else originally.

Chapter 8: Bonus

Chapter Text

Target 1: Managers

“You had something to talk to us about?” Tsukishiro asked as he put down four cups of tea on the coffee table between them.

“Your schedules are pretty packed for the next months,” Kurotsuki reminded as he tapped the agenda overflowing with sticky notes. “I don’t think we can schedule another project, much less a concert. However, we can squeeze in a vacation.”

“We weren’t planning on scheduling anything unless we must,” Hajime clarified.

“Oh good.” Kurotsuki let out a sigh along with Tsukishiro. “... I think…”

“What is it then?” Tsukishiro asked. The two idols looked at each other, telepathically communicating on who to be the bearer of news.

“WELL,” Shun began with emphasized optimism, “Dai-chan, Tsukishiro-chan, we just wanted to tell you that…” They waited in anticipation. “We love you!”

“Love you too, but what’s the real news?” Kurotsuki was unfazed to his antics, but his fellow manager had to blink multiple times to process that.

“Eheheh, as expected of Dai-chan. We just wanted to tell you that we’re dating now.” At first, there was no response. After a moment, they scrunched their eyebrows together and tilted their heads slightly.

“Is that so?” Tsukishiro finally commented and took a sip of tea.

          “Yup.”

“Weren’t you already together?” Kurotsuki asked, pointing back and forth between them.

“Everyone keeps responding similarly. Why is that?” Hajime asked. Gravi’s manager opened his mouth to speak but decided against it.

“... The handholding? The matching accessory? The date- wait, you all pass that word around freely.” Kurotsuki scratched his head. Then  he gave a long sigh and gave up.

“Congratulations,” Tsukishiro said after all that.

          “Thank you!” Shun beamed.

“Thanks,” Hajime nodded. “... Do we need to make a press statement about this or…?”

“Well, it’s not in your contracts nor company policies that you cannot date or anything. You have our support, but don’t do anything scandalous.”

“The media will be extra in-your-face about it especially,” Kurotsuki added. “Expect a lot of interview questions.”

“And to answer your original question, it would be best to have announced it at the beginning of your relationship, for transparency reasons.”

“... So, yesterday?” Shun asked. The managers gave him one long stare.

          “Within a week preferably.”

“It’s been a day,” Hajime said. There was a moment of silence, followed shortly with an awkward tea break.

“Let’s just work on that statement.”

Target 2: Tsukipro

“Congratulations,” the leaders of the other groups took turns giving their congratulations.

“A much warmer reception than our own groups and managers1” Shun feigned, wiping a tear.

“Eh? Were they opposed?” Sora asked.

“No, but they wouldn’t believe us when we said we started dating two days ago,” Hajime explained. There was a moment of silence and glance stealing.

“Funny, who would do such a thing? Haha  ha haa,” Sora laughed stiffly until he was elbowed lightly.

“Why wouldn’t we take you at your word?” Shiki cleared his throat.

“Regardless, we’re happy for you,” Kouki added as everyone nodded.

“Now, live out our dream, Shun,” Tsubaki said. The two albion representatives nodded. Shun turned to Hajime.

“Dump me!” Shun said to the shock of everyone else. Hajime stared at him blankly.

          “No,” he simply said.

“... CUTE!” Shun swooned. “I admit I’m a bit conflicted, but I’ll love you through the universes and back!”

“Please enjoy your relationship for more than a week,” Yuki said, putting a hand on Shun’s shoulder.

          “Then get dumped?” Shun asked.

“I’m not playing this game,” Hajime put his foot down.

“Fine, then you’re stuck with me forever!” The other leaders started to inch away.

“Weren’t you the one who said we’re bound by fate?” The other leaders disappeared behind the door, one by one.

“Fufufufufu, it is fate.” And they’re long gone.

Target 3: Family

“Hello mother,” Hajime answered his phone. Shun, lying against his boyfriend, felt a hitch in Hajime’s breathing and an increase in heart rate. “... My deepest apologies… I- Right…” Shun pushed himself upright on the sofa.

“Hi Mutsuki-hime!” Shun greeted, waiting for the right moment. There was a little more chatter on the other side. Hajime held out his phone and pressed a button.

          “Hello, Shun,” Hajime’s mom spoke.

“Mutsuki-hime! We should have another tea party!”

“ Indeed, then you both could explain why you didn’t tell us that you were dating. We found out through an announcement.”

“Ah, you didn’t say anything?” Shun asked Hajime.

“It might have slipped my mind…” Hajime looked away.

          “You’re usually a busy body.”

“ Don’t bother with excuses. It takes a minute at most to text..”

“Yes, mother,” Hajime didn’t argue with the matriarch.

          “ Do the Shimotsukis know?

“I told them the first night,” Shun answered. “They’re very ecstatic!”

“ If only my own son would have been so thoughtful to personally tell his parents the same.”

“ As you can probably tell, she’s not very pleased to find out indirectly,” another voice appeared on the line.

“Hi Mutsuki-san!” Shun waved at the phone.

“ Hello Shun. I am happy for you both. I’m certain my wife is too.”

“It sounds like she’s ready to disown me and adopt Shun instead,” Hajime said drily. Shun chuckled as he laid back down against his romantic partner.

“ That’d be too easy for you,” Mother Mutsuki spoke again. “ You’d be free from family reunions and that’s exactly what you want even though you always ditch.”

          “Unfortunate.”

“ Shun, next tea party, I’ll tell you some baby-”

“Got to go, bye.” Hajime quickly hung up.

“Baby stories, huh?” Shun mused. “Fufufu, I look forward to it.”

          “How about no?”

“Knowledge is my domain. I will find out.”

“Maybe in hundred years,” Hajime wrapped his arms around Shun. More as a means to try to keep him from escaping to a tea party than anything.

          “Promise?” Hajime stared at him.

A\N: A little bonus. Fans’ reactions would be typically mixed. Can’t really think of a scenario that would be interesting for it.
