9th day of NEWS: Inside

Summary:

9th NEWS Advent Calendar Drabble (KoyaShige)
Koyama and Shige don't have the same definition of a Christmas movie.

Notes:

KoyaShigeeee~ Prompt was "Christmas movie" but I twisted it a bit. By the way they're watching A l'intérieur (2007) described as an "example of the new wave of French horror" because Shige is that kind of snob lol

Work Text:

“That’s not a Christmas movie.”
“The story takes place on Christmas Eve,” Shige retorts but Koyama keeps staring at the DVD cover, skeptical.
“Stealing an unborn child doesn't fall under my definition of Christmas spirit.”
“Maybe, but keeping your promises does, and you said we'd watch whatever movie I'd want if I agreed to watch First Love with you.”
“But everybody loves Utada Hikaru. You even admitted it was a good movie!”
“And so is this one,” Shige states, leaving him little chance to protest.

Koyama can't bring himself to break his promise after all, and they end up watching the damn movie on Shige’s TV. Koyama is wrapped in a blanket, mentally preparing for what awaits him. As expected, he is startled by the opening scene.

“That’s not a Christmas movie,” He repeats categorically, clutching his blanket.
“That’s french,” Shige just replies as if it were a proper explanation.

Koyama gets through the first half of the film only flinching and yelping from time to time, but the approaching denouement makes him more and more nervous. He expects a screamer at every cut and his state of constant fright is almost contagious – twice, Shige jumps not because of the movie but because Koyama jumps. Inevitably, the violence becomes more creative and the list of the dead grows longer.

“Who hurt you?” Koyama asks with an accusatory tone, eliciting a laugh from Shige.
“It's just a movie!”
“Nobody could watch that for fun! Who hurt the French?”

Koyama reacting to the movie ends up being more enjoyable than the movie itself, but soon Shige finds himself unable to make fun of Koyama anymore because his friend curls up next to him and buries his face against his neck, his breath tickling Shige's skin as he whines miserably. Shige’s heart races, his hands get sweaty and he’s sure of one thing : nothing’s scarier than people.

“I can’t take it anymore. Let me know when it’s over,” Koyama begs.

Shige nods slowly, however he remains silent long after the tension has subsided. Koyama doesn’t dare to open his eyes again even when he hears the atmosphere obviously changing.

“Is it over?” He tries in a small voice.
“I’m not sure,” Shige lies. “She could come back.”

Koyama lets out a moan and snuggles up more. He only stops shaking when Shige starts to stroke his hair gently.

“Want me to stop?”
“No. Feels nice.”

Shige’s face becomes instantly so hot that he’s really grateful Koyama’s eyes are closed.

“I meant the movie,” He says stupidly.

Koyama stops breathing for a couple of seconds.

“Oh.”
“But I can stop-”
“Movie’s fine too.”

Shige keeps moving his fingers, running them through his hair, and when he feels bold enough, he even brushes the nape of his neck.

“Your heart beats so fast,” Koyama comments really softly so that it can’t be mistaken for teasing.
“It’s the movie. It’s scary as fuck.”

His friend is kind enough to nod, but they’re interrupted by the final bloodbath. None of them dare to move after the end credits begin to roll. Then Koyama speaks again.

“Does The Conjuring take place at Christmas, by any chance?”
