Chapter 1: Out Of The Upside Down

Chapter Text

Dustin was still crying by the time that the demobats had all fled. He didn’t want to leave but he had to at the same time. Dustin then limped whilst carrying Eddie.
Dustin’s struggle was obvious to Steve and so he ran over to the shorter teen.
“I-I’m sorry, Steve. I-I t-told him to r-run. He d-didn’t listen.” Dustin sobbed.
Steve looked down at Eddie’s body lying there.
“He p-promised me h-he wouldn’t t-try to be a h-hero.”
“I’m so fucking sorry, Steve.” Dustin wiped his eyes.
Robin then noticed both of the boys quietly sobbing.
“Guys?” She asked, walking away from Nancy’s grasp on her arm.
Steve didn’t look up. He just silently wept. Dustin just shook his head.
“Yeah?”
“Are you guys okay?”
Steve then got up, dried his eyes and wiped his jeans.
“I’m leaving. Let’s go.”
“Steve…?” Robin said, her voice going quiet.
“I said let’s go, Robin. I’m not gonna stay down in this shit hole.” Steve repeated coldly.
Dustin and Robin glanced at one another. They both shrugged and got up. Dustin then picked Eddie up again and carried him to the exit. Once they got to the exit, Dustin gave Eddie’s corpse to Robin as he climbed to the other side. Once they got back to Hawkins, Steve sat on the bed, completely silent.
“I’m so sorry, Steve. I tried.”
“I just want him back. This is that Vecna creep’s fault. I’m a failure. I didn’t go with you guys.” Steve sobbed. “I’VE ALWAYS BEEN A FUCKING FAILURE!! I’VE NEVER BEEN GOOD ENOUGH FOR ANYONE!! MY PARENTS FUCKING NEGLECTED ME AS A CHILD.” Tears were streaming down Steve’s face now.
“I’m a piece of shit. My parents never cared about me.”
