Chapter 1: The 10 step guide
Enid was in trouble, serious trouble.
For a while now she started to feel a tight feeling in her chest whenever she saw her roommate, at first she thought it was the fear of waking up to a dead animal on her bed or simply never waking up the next day. All because of colors for some reason.
However since then the two have come to a mutual understanding and even won the Poe cup together, Enid would dare say that they were at the besty level, Wednesday may deny it but she denies a lot of things, like that one time she spiked Xavier’s drink.
Though one thing she noticed was that her heart would still beat a hundred miles per hour whenever she was around Wednesday, and she started to realize it wasn’t fear that took root in her heart. She had a feeling deep down what it might be but she wasn’t ready to acknowledge her feelings until she was 100 percent sure.
Like most teenagers, Enid decided the best way to confirm her feelings was through online tests rather than deal with reality to see what was really going on. Opening multiple tabs she began her search through the recess of the web. Because if she couldn’t figure it out, at least the internet could!
Several minutes of answering tests for multiple tests and quizzes, constantly going back and forth between tabs until the results loaded, sneaking peaks at her roommate to see she was still occupied putting up pictures on her board, pushing Thing away from her laptop because now was not the time for manicure tutorials.
Several ringing notifications started pinging through the tab searches, her heart pounding as she took a deep breath ‘Now is the moment of truth Enid, you can do it!’ She cheered herself mentally as she began to open the results one by one.
Her excited grin turned to disbelief and confusion in a matter of seconds, Thing would in fact tell her that she went through the five stages of grief in the few seconds she kept switching tabs.
Staring hopelessly at the results on her laptop from taking online tests like ‘Am I in love with my roommate?’ or ‘Can I scent my besty?’ to ‘Is it gay to fantasize about marrying my friend?’ All of them revealed the same result.
‘You are in love, 101% with 1% margin of error.’
There was no way that was true, she couldn’t be in love with Wednesday. The girl that threatened to strangle her with a pillow, constantly threatening to kill her in the most creative ways possible, who was probably a serial killer in her spare time and who was now arranging her best impression of Ted Bundy’s Pinterest board. There was simply no way.
Enid bit her lip as she watched Wednesday glare holes at her board, mumbling things to herself while writing notes. That assessment of Wednesday wasn’t exactly fair though, was it?
Her cold eyes that promised nothing but torture that could briefly flicker to softness under specific circumstances. Her stoic face that hid everything would sometimes shift with a slight upturn of her lips that could melt ice. Her sharp remarks that made people’s days much worse, yet receiving a point of acknowledgment from her felt like a worthwhile achievement. Her perfectly symmetrical face with small hints of freckles you could only see if you focused hard enough.
Or times like when she would confide in Enid about her findings, giving her full attention to the werewolf. The look of determination that made her heart beat faster and made her want to wag her tail every time she saw her and… Oh.
She was in love with Wednesday.
This complicates things.
Shoving a pillow to her face she screamed into it, ignoring the curious look her roommate was giving her, the same girl who was the source of her problem right now.
Somehow Wednesday was able to carve her way deep into Enid’s heart, forcing a spot reserved only for her without the blonde even knowing of it.
What was she supposed to do now with this forbidden knowledge? Was she supposed to confess? Or hide it away and let it drown? Pretend it doesn’t exist?
Taking a peak at Wednesday again she could see her moving the pictures around, pinning the grotesque photos next to the victims. How does she make a murder mystery look sexy, there should be a law against it.
Sighing wistfully she turned her attention back to her laptop only to come face to face with Thing, or face to fingers in his case.
He pointed at her and then the screen, then pointed back to her and at Wednesday. Damn, this complicated a lot of things.
Shaking her head at him, widening her eyes as if to say. ‘No, you’re imagining things. Those are pop up viruses. I was trying to find that manicure video you wanted.’
Unamused at her response Thing started twitching his fingers at her. ’20 pages of pop up viruses asking about very specific romantic feelings someone has about their roommates?’
Nodding her head, revealing fanged teeth and wider eyes. ‘Yeah, I was doing some deep searches like you asked me too and all this popped up, amazing how it works right? Let me just help you there with another video.’
Before her hand could reach the mouse, Thing slapped it away. ‘Don’t gaslight me, I saw your gay yearning.’
Enid panicked and grabbed Thing, holding him down and chancing a look behind her where Wednesday was still organizing her board. Honestly Enid was impressed by the other girls tunnel vision.
Letting out a warning growl. ‘This stays between you and me.’
Thing signed as much as he could with the limited mobility. ‘You have my word, scouts honor.’
Enid let out an exhausted sigh before letting go of him and slumping back on her bed. What was she going to do now? Not five minutes into her discovery of her feelings and already someone else knew about it. She was effed.
Thing crawled up next to her and began to sign. ‘Why don’t you talk to her?’
Enid scowled. ‘And get rejected just to make everything awkward for us both? No thanks.’
Thing tapped his fingers as if in thought. He quickly turned to the laptop and began pointing at the screen. Where the obnoxious ads took half the screen.
Enid narrowed her eyes at where he was pointing. “Hot milfs in my area? How is this going to help me?” She demanded from the hand.
Upon realizing what she said out loud, she smacked her mouth so hard she winced, that was definitely going to bruise.
She and Thing both stole a glance at Wednesday who was now drawing connection lines between the photos. They were still safe.
Thing once again gesturing at the ads section, this time lowering himself to reveal another one. ‘What if we looked up ways to help you with your problem?’
Enid looked at the ad with some suspicion, it looked like one of those weird self-help posts that were probably useless. It was titled. ‘How to woo your mate.’
Taping her fingers and biting her lip, what was the worst that could happen? Clicking a post is free.
She tapped on the ad and waited for it to load, the tab redirected her to an amazon page where it turns out the post was actually a book. Because of course it was.
Enid knew this was going to be a waste of time but she might as well take a peek at it.
‘How to woo your mate, a simple 10 steps guide that could make any outcast or if you’re feeling daring, a normie, find their mate. These steps have proven to work on many people from all backgrounds of life. We can almost guarantee that it will work on your desired partner. By following this book, you too can find you mate.’
Enid arched her brow, this has to be a joke. There was no way this would work right?
‘How to woo your mate with these simple 10 steps by bestselling author Gabrielle Jane from the company morning song, writer of other acclaimed books such as ‘How to get away with stalking’ or ‘You’re not the problem, gaslight them.’ and ‘Is kidnapping really a bad thing?’ which were also major hits, no ethical questions were raised.’
Enid stared at the screen blankly, what in the world was she getting herself into.
Thing had either chose to ignore all the red flags or found them charming, because he began to point at the review section of the page and – Enid’s jaw dropped at the results.
Over ten thousand reviews with a four point eight score.
‘Just as advertised, I was able to get my love to fall in love with me!’
‘This was just wow, I didn’t even have to finish all the steps!’
‘My mate and I are due to get married this week!’
‘Four out of five! It took me two weeks to get a date compared to the estimated one week.’
Enid stared at the screen, a million questions forming in her head.
Thing began to sign. ‘This is perfect for you, don’t let the chance slip.’
‘Hold on a minute, how do I even know if Wednesday would be interested in any of this? You saw the book description, it’s so cheesy and the writer seems really seedy, is she even interested in girls?’ Enid really didn’t want to get her hopes up just to have it all crash.
Thing stared at her blankly. ‘It’s Wednesday.’
‘… Fair.’
‘Look, it’s even on sale.’
She jerked her head to look at the books description again and saw a note near the buy option. Same day delivery guaranteed.
Enid slammed her hand on the buy option, she had never bought an item as fast as she did now, and she bought the limited addition moon silver nail polish when it first came out.
High fiving Thing, she laid back on the bed with a smile so bright it could glow in the dark.
She turned her head to where Wednesday was standing. She was dusting her hands with a satisfied smirk as she finished her board. Enid could hear her own heartbeat picking up speed as she looked at her roommate.
Red flags be damned she’s getting a girlfriend by the end of the week.

Chapter 2: Assert dominance
Enid was buzzing in her bed from excitement, her eyes constantly checking back to her laptop where the live tracker was quickly making its way to the school. Her hopes and dreams of getting her dream girl all bundled up in a package just for her.
She had already asked Thing to meet with the driver at the school gates to pick up the package, Thing was all too happy to comply, scuttling straight out the door in haste.
Letting out another excited squeal when the tracker stopped at the gates, she was so happy she wasn’t even going to question how it was possible for a one day delivery shipping.
“Enid.” She froze from her spot and glanced at her crush. Her brows were furrowed as if trying to decipher a problem. “You have been shaking for the past hour, normally I would ignore it however your squeals of joy are starting to make me nauseous.”
Enid was going to pretend all that means she was curious. “Oh you know, just some nail polish I ordered online that’s going to turn our- I mean my life upside down.”
Quirking up her brow at the grinning wolf girl. “I fail to see how nail polish could possibly achieve that.”
Before Enid could answer, the sound of Thing’s scuttling caught their attention as he crawled up Enid’s bed with a package tied to him.
“Yes!” Enid squealed. She just barely restrained herself from tearing the book apart right in front of Wednesday. Grabbing Thing she made her way to the door. “Bye Wednesday! Going to go the library to study!”
“With your new nail polish?” To say Wednesday was confused would be an understatement.
Enid almost smacked her head on the wall at her excuse to leave the room.
“Yeah, gonna go and uh… study my nail polish and stuff.” Enid had never felt so lame in her life.
She didn’t know if it was sympathy or second hand embarrassment but Wednesday just waved her off in acknowledgment. “Very well, do what it is that you do. I can only hope it is a traumatizing experience.”
Aww, she’s so cute when she means the opposite of what she says.
Enid incapable of keeping her mouth shut blurts out. “Life works in mysterious ways Wednesday! Who knows, maybe one day that little dark part of your heart might just start beating for someone special one day!”
Wednesday blinks. “Wha-?” The door shuts close before she could complete a word.
Maybe she should smack her head against a wall, she couldn’t possibly lose any more functioning brain cells at this point. She felt slight scratching and looked down at her partner in crime
‘Wow, could you have laid it out any thicker?’ Thing signed.
End scowled.
…
Hiding in the corner of the darkest part of the library, the two set up camp as they ripped the wrappings of the book. There it is, her best chance of getting a girlfriend, it felt too good to be true.
“You ready to embark on this adventure with me Thing?” She whispered to the appendage. He answered by shaking his finger as if to nod.
Taking a deep breath Enid opened the book to its first page.
‘We would like to thank you for purchasing our book titled. ‘How to woo your mate.’ As a small disclaimer we would like to remind you that all the steps of the book must be followed rigorously to ensure full success. If you somehow fail, know that you hold full responsibility for your failures and do not try to claim any legal actions.’
‘Now without further ado prepare yourself to catch your mate, on to the next page.’
Enid flips the page.
Step one: Assert dominance.
‘The basic thing you need to do is establish your dominance, you don’t want your potential mate to be looking at other candidates. You must show your mate that you are the only viable option out there for them. Show the other ones whose boss.’
Enid raised her brow in concern, ignoring her moral compass for now, how was she supposed to do that?
‘The easiest way to do that is by eliminating from the race permanently.’
Oh.
The book wasn’t wrong but…
‘However if you feel that is not the road you are willing to travel, there are alternative methods to getting the job done. Mostly in the forms of intimidation of all you perceive as threats, don’t let them near your mate, talk to your mate or even breath the same air as your mate.’
Enid furrowed her brows, that seemed really controlling and might put people off.
‘This step is not only the most crucial but also when done properly could lead your mate to focus most if not all their attention on you.’
Enid closed the book and took a deep breath and let out a smile, her mom always said morals were optional.
…
Botany was one of the few classes the two shared, Enid decided this was the perfect place to start her plans. Where else to establish dominance than in front of people.
She saw Wednesday take her place at the front of class where Xavier hadn’t come yet, time to strike.
Enid casually strolled over next to Wednesday and took the seat near her. The brunette glanced at her and blinked, as if asking what she was doing there. Enid gave her a thumbs up as an answer, which did not answer anything for Wednesday who decided to ignore her roommate’s eccentric behavior.
Watching the students start to pour in, some were giving her curious looks at her change of seat. Yoko raised her brows behind her sunglasses, the question clear in her eyes. Enid waved her off with a smile, promising to explain later.
Not long after Xavier walked in looking broody as ever, did he do anything besides brood? He paused and looked at Enid who just stared back at him, was she glaring at him?
“Uh Enid, you’re kind of in my seat.” Xavier said looking confused.
“I decided that I would like a change of scenery and decided the best place would be right here, next to Wednesday.” She responded, staring at him blankly.
“But I’ve been sitting here for the past two years.” His confusion only growing.
Enid looked up at him with a big smile. “Looks like you’re going to be taking another seat for the next two years.”
Ignoring the laugh that erupted from Yoko at the back, and Kent’s ‘take the L dude’ there was some mild shuffling going on in the background but Enid was too busy staring down Xavier.
“What no, these seat have been prearranged by Mrs. Thornhill!”
Like hell was Enid going to let something like logic win. “I don’t see your name on it.”
Growing frustrated at the blondes response. “And your name is?”
Enid shifted a little, revealing the back of the chair carved. ‘Enid was here’ “See, mine. Now go away.”
“You just carved that right now! The wood shaving is still on the floor!” He said, pointing at the dust beneath her.
“Are you saying that just because I’m a werewolf I did that? That’s awfully bigoted of you.” Enid looked at him with disappointment.
“What no! I- Wednesday back me up here, I’ve been your seat partner for a month now.”
His pleads fell to deaf ears as Wednesday’s back was to them as she was conversing with Yoko and… Divina? She wasn’t supposed to be there.
“Aren’t you supposed to be sitting next to Bianca?” He said pointing to the other desk that now had… Ajax? Since when did he sit there?
The siren shot him a dirty look. “Can you not gaslight me, that’s so not cool.”
“Divina is my girlfriend, so she always has seating privileges.” Yoko piped up.
“Gaslighting? Seating privileges? Do any of you remember we were not sitting like this just a few days ago?” He asked the class.
“Xavier.” That caught his attention, he turned to Wednesday who was looking at him with a stoic expression. “There’s a seat over there, stop causing a scene in class.”
Xavier bit his lip to stop his complaints, ignoring the gleeful triumphant look on Enid’s face as he took a seat next to Ajax.
Enid stopped her mental victory to take a glance at her new seatmate. Wednesday was looking back at her with a slight upturn to her lip, clearly amused by the whole event.
If Enid had a tail it would have broken the seat with how hard it wagged, the book was working! And this was far from over.
…
The next class was fencing, admittedly not Enid’s favorite but she got to see Wednesday look cool twirling around and stuff, so it was basically a win in her books.
She had lost count of how many times she’s been stabbed by Yoko during their bouts, her eyes were focused solely on Wednesday sparring with several students, beating them flawlessly.
“You plan on telling me what was going on in Botany class?” Yoko asked, casually poking the distracted blonde.
Distractedly waving the foil around in a half heated attempt to not be scolded by their teacher, her eyes kept trailing over to Wednesday who was now ready to face off against Bianca.
“Earth to Enid, you plan on letting me in on your brain mush?” Yoko called out to her, trying to avoid the foil from poking her eyes.
Enid’s attention snapped to the center of the room where Xavier was approaching Wednesday before she could take on Bianca. Oh hell no.
“I’ll talk to you later Yoko, I need to assert my dominance.” The blonde said walking away from the vampire.
“Assert your what? Enid!?”
Enid quickly made her way to the center of the room, dodging people to get to Wednesday. Using her werewolf senses she strained her ears to hear what he was saying.
“I was just thinking, maybe you could try dueling with me instead? We’ve seen you and Bianca fight every time we’re in this class, I was just thinking some diversity could be good.” Xavier said with a wry smile, hoping it could convince her.
Bianca and Wednesday shared a look of bemusement at his suggestion. Before either could shoot him down Enid stepped in front of Wednesday, blocking the boys view.
“I think that’s a great idea Xavier, I’d love to pick a figh- I mean duel you.” Enid said with a smile too wide to be genuine.
“I was talking to Wednesday.” Xavier said, trying to peak behind the blond. Why was Wednesday so short?
“She’s busy, unavailable, you know that kind of thing.” Enid said, matching Xavier’s movement to keep blocking him from looking at Wednesday.
“She’s literally right there staring at us.” His frustration peaking.
“If you can’t see her she’s not there.” Sound logic in her mind.
“She’s a human not a ghost!”
A cough interrupted them, they turned to look at coach Vlad’s unamused face.
“If the both of you are done fighting like children with words, maybe you would prefer to duel with your weapons instead.”
Oh yeah, they were in fencing class.
Enid watched Xavier prepare his helmet and wear his protective gear, begrudgingly she did the same.
Taking her place at the center where Xavier was waiting, she chanced a glance at Wednesday. Sure enough the goth girl was staring back at her. Her face held firm but there was something gleaming in her eyes, her lips parted briefly and if not for her sensitive hearing she wouldn’t have picked up the faint but confident. “You can win.”
Enid swore the angels were singing just for her at that moment, her fake smile transformed to a grin and her heartbeat accelerating rapidly at the vote of confidence from her crush. Now she really had to show up.
What did that book say again, show them whose boss and don’t be scared of playing dirty?
Xavier watched in confusion as Enid began to circle around him rather than strike, his confusion growing more as she dropped her weapon.
Confusion quickly warped to horror as Enid began to extend her claws out and large teeth became visible from behind the mask.
“Wait Enid, you’re supposed to use the foil!”
Poor Xavier didn’t stand a chance when the werewolf pounced. The sound of his screams echoed through the halls, a warning to all.
…
Enid scowled as she left the detention room, she missed half of her break because Xavier got a few baby scratches. Apparently telling the teacher she thought the foil was in her hand the whole time was not a valid excuse.
What if someone else tried to make a move on Wednesday while she was gone? The thought alone made her growl, making student’s part way for her in fear.
Reaching the quad, she scanned the site for Wednesday and sure enough a black uniform stood out among a sea of blue, she was conversing with that weird bee boy and of fucking course Xavier was there.
Marching over and ignoring the calls from Yoko and Divina from the other table, she strained her ear to make out some of the conversation.
“- Just a little weird how she’s act-?” Xavier bit his own tongue when he saw Enid coming over looking ready to commit murder. Dear god, he barely made it out alive in class and had to drink his weight in potions to get out of the infirmary.
“I just remembered I have an art project due, bye!” Xavier limped away like his life depended on it.
At least he knew his place now.
“Enid.” Whipping her head to Wednesday who called her name. “You’re late.”
“Yeah, guess the teacher didn’t take kindly to my play fighting with Xavier. You know, just old people being silly about stuff.” She said, casually trying to downplay her murder attempt.
“I heard you tried to rip his throat out.” The small boy said shivering.
Oh he must be scared… good.
“It was just a little scratch, he barely felt a thing.” They turned to look at the still limping boy. He was exaggerating.
“You know, I’m going have to side with bug boy over here. You ripped through his protective gear.” Bianca said, seamlessly inserting herself to the conversation. Ignoring the ‘they’re bees’ from Eugenie and death glare from Wednesday.
“He had faulty ones on.” There was bound to be a malfunction or two in the school.
“When he was screaming for help?” Bianca asked with a raised brow.
“I thought he was testing his vocal cords.”
Bianca rolled her eyes at the display from Enid, if the blonde thought she was blind to her actions then so be it, but she wasn’t about to stand around and watch the train wreck happen without a little push.
She walked by Enid and whispered when she was far enough from Wednesday and Eugenie but just enough for the werewolf to hear.
“There’s no need for you to be posturing around so much, be honest about your feelings. Words can reach certain people far more than actions.” Bianca parted her words of wisdom.
She glanced back, hoping her words would make a meaningful impact.
Instead she was met with blank blue eyes who was looking at her with a tilted head. She could practically see the one brain cell in the werewolf’s brain press delete on her advice. Ungrateful mutt, this was the first and last time she would help these idiots.
…
The rest of the day was hell for anyone who dared approach Wednesday and for once it had nothing to do with the girl herself.
Accidently brush against her rushing to class? Get shoved in a locker until the janitor saves you.
Ask her about notes that you missed in class? Come face to face with a foaming mouth and sharp teeth.
Teasing her for anything? Prepare to run a marathon with an angry werewolf on your heels.
Want to talk to her about bees? Allowed, but on thin ice.
Nothing in Nevermore was going to be the same.
…
The day was coming to an end, everyone was retiring to their rooms. That included the two roommates in Ophelia hall.
Enid was sending Wednesday nervous glances as she wrote on her typewriter, was her attempts on establishing dominance effective? She knew it worked sometimes but they didn’t share every class together or club activity. What if someone else tried to move in on Wednesday and made an impression while she wasn’t there?
Grinding her canines at the thought of another person getting near her Wednesday. Thing had crawled up and was patting her hand in reassurances, signing encouraging phrases. That did little to rest her mind.
The loud clanking noise of the typewriter stopped as Wednesday turned her head up facing the ceiling.
“Enid, I think I understand.” Those words made the blonde freeze in her place on the bed.
“Your actions have been odd today, you have gone out of our way to antagonize the students of Nevermore like a demon possessed. A very commendable endeavor, one which I applaud you for. However very out of character for you.”
Enid felt her heart race, speeding up drastically as she licked her lips. She couldn’t mean what she thinks she means right?
“I must say, I found it fascinating how you broke all rules of convention and aimed for the kill in class today when it came to Xavier and our classmates. I regret that I did not show you just how amusing I found it.”
‘She knows, she knows I did it for her.’ The thought rang in Enid’s head. Closing her eyes, unwilling to look at her crush right now. Was this it? The part where Wednesday says it was amusing but nothing more?
“It has lifted my spirits briefly from my block with the murder investigation. Your actions have inspired me to look harder and think more outside the box.
‘Wait what?’ Enid’s eyes shot open and stared at Wednesday confounded.
“I believe I might have found a new lead to the case.”
‘What did her asserting dominance on the students have anything to do with the murder mystery?’
Wednesday finally turned her face from the ceiling and faced Enid’s wide eyes, a slight upturn of her lips that was different from her side smirks, no this was a smile. “I wanted to let you know that I appreciate everything that you had done today.”
Enid’s eyes were wide and her mouth had yet to shut, she had to physically grab her jaw and push it back up to close it. Unable to form words because her traitorous tongue decided to take a vacation, Enid nodded her head, letting out a gargling noise and walked out of the room.
Thing scuttling around, following her as she made her way to the library, she took a seat exactly where she was last time, staring up at the ceiling. Thing sat by her side patiently waiting for Enid to make a move.
“Thing? You heard what I heard right?” The hand shook his finger as if to say yes. “Wednesday… just thanked me didn’t she? I wasn’t imagining it?” Another shake of acknowledgment. “I also saw her smile too, you saw that right?” Again a nod. “Okay, cool, just wanted to make sure.”
Allowing the silence to steady her mind for a moment drinking in the words and images she saw with her own eyes before rising from her seat.
Enid closed her eyes and took a deep breath before belting out the loudest howl of her life.
“LET’S FUCKING GO!”
…
*Knock Knock*
Wednesday briefly shifted and looked behind her to see a piece of paper slipping beneath the door.
Standing up from her seat she made her way to the neatly folded piece of paper. Gently opening it, she took a look at the brief sentence highlighted boldly at the center of the page.
I think you’re roommate is in love with you.
-X
Silence filled the room as she reread the note again. Shifting her gaze to see if there was anything more to the paper, there was none.
Wednesday narrowed her eyes at the note, she didn’t know who X was but they seemed to have delivered the note to the wrong room, what to do.
She tore the paper and placed it in the trash near her typewriter, some people really need to learn how to read signs.

Chapter 3: Mark your claim
Enid and Thing had once again fortified themselves in the furthest corner of the library, away from prying eyes.
“Today was a success but we can’t rest until victory is guaranteed.” Enid declared to Thing, who slapped his hand against the table to show he agrees.
“Are you ready for step two?” Receiving a thumbs up Enid cracked open the book and skipped to the next part.
‘Congratulations on taking the first step dear reader, we can understand how daunting these tasks may seem but we only have the best interests of our readers and their mates in mind.’
Enid smiled, she guessed some risks had to be made to get what you want. She flipped the page.
Step two: Mark your claim
‘Mark. Your. Claim. Do I need to spell it out for you? Your mate should only have eyes for you, what of the times you are not around and someone tries to move in on them? How would they know that your mate is spoken for? Through your mark.’
Enid let out a gargling sound at the step, what the hell were they implying? Was she supposed to scent all of Wednesday’s clothes?
… That didn’t sound too bad now that she thought about it.
‘Do not be subtle dear reader, blood residue, flicks of stones and scenting clothes can only take you so far. There are others that do not have the same senses as you and will be incapable of detecting you on your mate. They will assume that your mate is free game.’
Enid growled at the last bit, what was she supposed to do then?
‘The simplest way to remind all those around your mate that she is taken is having a piece of clothing that you are associated with on them at all times. It has to be something that stands out, like a scarf, gloves or a jacket. Stake your claim.’
Enid licked her lips nervously, Wednesday would rather die than wear any of the colorful clothes she owns.
‘This step guarantees to scare off other potential threats and will have your mate smelling of your scent the whole time.’
Enid closed the book and looked down at Thing. “Buddy, I have a plan.”
…
Enid skipped to her room where Wednesday was still writing on her typewriter, making her way over to her side of the room and flashing her roommate a bright smile.
“You know Wednesday, it’s gotten cold these past few days.” She says, trying to act nonchalant.
Wednesday briefly stops her writing to look outside the window, where snow had been gathering at their balcony for the past few days. “Evidently.” Her tone unimpressed with Enid’s ‘observation.’
“I’m just saying, you really need to bundle up more. Saw the weather report say it’s going to be really cold tomorrow.”
“I appreciate your concern however my body temperature will match the cold perfectly.” Wednesday deadpanned.
“If you say so, I want you to know if there’s any kind of jackets or scarfs that you need, you can always rely on me!”
Wednesday had to hold back a shiver at the thought of Enid’s wide array of colorful clothes.
“I can assure you that I have a sufficient selection of coats to provide me with warmth.”
Enid flashed Wednesday with a grin far too wide and wolfish. “You never know what’ll happen tomorrow.”
Before she could consider to question her blonde roommate she busied herself with her phone texting on the device. Deciding her roommate was simply being over caring she decided to drop it. What was the worst that could happen?
Where was Thing exactly anyway, hadn’t he left the room with Enid?
… Probably looking for hand lotion or something just as vane.
…
Wednesday felt something was off.
Waking up to Enid humming to herself was nothing new, even her bouncing around wearing her school uniform and going through her closet to look for her jacket was nothing new.
She tried to ignore the gnawing feeling crawling through her, going about her routine until it lead her to her closet. She opened it to find it empty of all her belongings.
Wednesday blinked. She closed the door briefly and then opened it again, still no clothes. Therefore she could conclude that it wasn’t a hallucination.
Furrowing her brows as if to make sense of what was happening, where had her clothes disappeared to? A new mystery to be solved?
“Hey Wednesday! What you up to? Hurry up and change, we have classes to go to.” If she had turned her head she would have caught the excited look on Enid’s face as she came closer.
“It would seem that I have no coats to wear.” How very suspicious.
“That’s such a shame, why don’t you take one of mine instead.”
Before she could deign Enid with an answer, she heard the scuttling fingers of Thing as it slumped on a pillow tired. Why would he be tired? All he did was lay around on pillows all day and look at youtube tutorials for nail care.
… Unless there was more.
Wednesday lunged at the tired hand and gripped it tight. “I know you have something to do with my missing clothes, answer me.”
Thing was struggling for its life under her grasp. ‘I’m innocent! Innocent until proven guilty!’ He pleaded.
“We’ll see how innocent you are with a missing finger.” She threatened.
“Wednesday no!” Enid had jumped in and grabbed Thing from Wednesday’s grasp. She shivered under the intense glare of her roommate. It was kind of hot but now wasn’t the time for that.
“Enid, you have five seconds to leave my suspect alone to be interrogated by me or I will unleash my personal wolfsbane potion on you. That is five seconds more than I would give anyone else.”
Enid felt her heart stutter. “You’re giving me special privileges before death. Just for me?”
Thing smacked around in her grasp. Oh right, now was not the time for her gay thoughts.
“How about we ask Thing what he has been up to? Maybe it wasn’t him that took your clothes from the closet. Right Thing?” She said trying to give the hand an out.
‘It was me.’ He signed.
Goddamn it Thing, you coward.
‘I took them to the school wash because some weird fungus was growing in the closet, I wanted to make sure everything was ready and clean for you. Halfway through the wash all the machines somehow broke down.’ He signed quickly, hoping to save his fingers from being detached.
Wednesday narrowed her eyes. “You mean the fungus I was growing in the closet myself?”
“You grow fungus in your closet?” Enid’s question went ignored as she stared down the cowering appendage.
‘To be fair, I didn’t know it was your fungus. It looked like it was going bad very quickly and not the good kind of bad.’
Wednesday’s stare did not lessen.
Thing began to panic. ‘The broken machines! They must be a product of sabotage. Maybe someone saw me washing your clothes and tripped up the machines.’
Enid looked unimpressed at Thing’s explanation, why would anyone sabotage the laundry-
“Of course, they must have noticed the amount of clothes you had took down with you and correctly assumed that it was all I had to stave off the winter.”
Oh, she should have figured Wednesday’s paranoia and overthinking would lead to this.
“Well Wednesday, seeing as you have no jacket and class is about to start. You could borrow one of mine to class.” Enid tried to convince her roommate. She had also made sure to scent every single one of her jackets thoroughly.
Wednesday shook her head much to Enid’s dismay. “Enid, the culprit will assume that I would succumb to the cold and seek refuge in another article of clothing. With that reasoning they would win the battle of wills.”
“Wednesday, I guarantee you no one is thinking like that, just wear the jacket. I don’t want you to get cold, I’ll even find you the darkest jacket I have.” Enid said rushing to closet looking through her clothes. She spotted a large navy jacket that had a small heart sign at the chest section. Good enough she supposed, pulling it down she subtly took a glance at her roommate who was bus talking to Thing. She began to rub her neck on the cloth, making her scent more potent. Ha, take that losers, score for Enid.
“Your concerns while valiant are not necessary, I have decided to go coatless until I figure out the culprit of this mess.”
“Wednesday? It’s just a jacket.” Enid pleaded with her.
Wednesday’s mind had already begun to think up scenarios. “Could this be the work of the serial killer?”
“Serial killer? What- Wednesday, just wear the jacket before you freeze to death.”
“I will report my findings to Principal Weems, I will meet you in class shortly.” Enid could only gap as she watched the brunette leave in only her uniform.
“Wednesday! Wear the goddamn jacket!”
…
Larrisa Weems was a woman of incredible stature, towering over everyone and everything. She wouldn’t lie, she enjoyed it greatly when people cowered before her just by standing far from them.
Looking down at the whimpering student in her office who looked positively frightened. She could practically taste the fear of the little troublemaker. How delectable.
The door to her office slammed open to reveal her most hated student so far. Wednesday Addams, the girl walked in like she owned the place.
“Miss Addams, what an unpleasant surprise. I’m afraid I’m busy at the moment.” She said gesturing to the whimpering girl.
Wednesday took one look at the student and pointed to the door. “I have far more important things to discuss.”
The vampire bolted out the door barely missing slamming into an irate blonde werewolf.
Weems scowled at Wednesday, damn brat.
“It would seem you have nothing else to do, I wish to discuss a matter of great importance with you.”
Weems didn’t even bother to hide her eye rolls at this point. “Another false accusation about your murder mystery?” She focused her gaze on the small girl and - Wait, why wasn’t she wearing a coat?
“Miss Addams, I hope you are aware of the weather outside.” She said pointing at the snow covered window.
“That’s what I told her!” Enid walked in with a growl, a bundled up jacket in her hands.
“I have come here to discuss that with you. Last night Thing went to the shared laundry room to clean my coats, mid wash all the machines have shut down. Leaving me no choice and with no coat.” Wednesday chose to ignore Enid’s shout of her jacket. “I believe that someone has discovered my predicament and chose to sabotage the washing machines and dryers.” She concluded her findings.
Weems opened and closed her mouth a few times before sputtering out. “You must be joking.”
Wednesday shook her head. “I’m afraid not.”
The principal blinked a few times before turning her attention to the werewolf who looked just as exasperated. Good, it wasn’t just her.
“Miss Addams, I must once again remind you that no such things happen within the walls of this school. Are you trying to tell me that someone is going through all this hubris just to create an inconvenience for you?”
“Yes.” She answered honestly.
The audacity of this brat.
“I will not hear another word of this from you, I myself will investigate this situation. Now both of you go to class immediately.”
The two were promptly kicked out of the principal’s room. Not before hearing Weems complain about disrespectful kids these days.
Sharing a glance the two made their way to their shared class. Enid noticed Wednesday’s hand shivering a little, she couldn’t help but try to bite back the guilt of the situation. She had sabotaged the washing machine and dryer while Thing sneaked through Wednesday’s closet and took all her clothes in order to enact her plan. Now Wednesday was freezing all because of that stupid book advice.
“Wednesday, I- I have to tell you something important.” Enid couldn’t take it anymore, with each step they took Wednesday looked closer to becoming a corpse.
The brunette glanced at Enid briefly before focusing her gaze back at the hall. “Be quick about it, we are near class.”
Shaking her head she overtook Wednesday and stopped in front of her, forcing the shorter girl to pause.
Taking a deep breath she opened her eyes to express herself only to freeze when looking directly in front of the girl who was looking back at her with amusement. She felt her mouth dry because oh god she looked so cute like that. She wondered if Wednesday would bite her hands if she tried to grab her cheeks. No, bad Enid, focus.
“Why do you look happy?” Enid blurted out, not what she was supposed to say but it was better than staring at her like a creep.
Wednesday blinked back at Enid. “I thought it was obvious, not only am I thwarting my new nemesis’s plan but I also get to edge closer to the sweet embrace of death.”
Enid smacked her lips together. Not understanding anything that came out of the goth girls mouth but apparently it meant she had indirectly done something to please her. She was going to take it as a win. Maybe she could test her luck a little.
“Will you wear my jacket now?”
“Absolutely not.”
Half a win.
…
Enid was shuffling around break slowly, the usual pep to her walk gone. Throughout the day she had been unsuccessful in her attempts to get Wednesday to wear her jacket. Pleading with her, trying to bribe her through class and even when she didn’t have class, apparently the teachers had to pull her out of them because she wasn’t taking those classes and getting Wednesday to wear her jacket was not an excuse to skip her own classes.
Stupid old people, this is why they were all single.
Jacket still in hand, practically drenched with her scent as it had never left her side. She made her way to make her last attempt at getting Wednesday to wear the damned thing.
She froze in the corridor when her sight landed on Wednesday, who was now wearing a large black jacket that was not hers or Enid’s.
Enid’s neck cracked with how fast she whipped it around, the students around her ran on sight. Who wasn’t wearing a jacket? Who dared approach her mate while she wasn’t there?
She heard a scribbling and splashing of paint to her right on the far side of the hallway, there Xavier was painting a mural, without a jacket on.
Xavier felt a shiver course through his body as the feeling of impending doom had arrived, turning slowly he could see Enid marching towards him, cracking her hands in anticipation. Dear god, he still had a limp.
“I didn’t do anything, I swear!” He yelled, raising his hands in surrender. A few students glanced his way but they didn’t pay him much mind, just Xavier being weird again, those bastards.
“I just want to talk Xavier.” Enid said calmly, her extended claws and crazed eyes contradicting her statement.
“No you don’t! I swear I didn’t speak to Wednesday since that day!” He had nowhere to limp away.
“I don’t see your jacket Xavier.” She called out.
“I don’t paint with my jacket, look!” He pointed at the floor where a lump of a jacket was laying.
Enid narrowed her eyes before slowly retracting her claws, if Xavier wasn’t the suspect then who was? “Then where did she get the jacket from Xavier?” She growled.
“How would I know, I was here from the start of the break! Ask Wednesday!”
“Ask me what?” The voice made the two students whirl around to see Wednesday looking between the two.
Enid bit back a growl, watching Wednesday in a jacket that wasn’t hers smelling like someone that wasn’t her made her hackles rise.
Xavier chanced a look at the feral looking blonde, who didn’t look to be capable of answering any time soon, decided to step in. “We were just wondering where you got that jacket from. You weren’t wearing it all day.”
Wednesday nodded her head in acknowledgment. “I have procured it from your vampire acquaintance. She had offered it to me in an attempt at chivalry. Which I believe to be pointless as she already has a paramour.”
“Why didn’t you take mine?” Enid snapped, letting a growl come out. The envy coursing through her, why did Wednesday choose someone else’s and not hers? Clenching her first in anger, it wasn’t fair.
Wednesday’s eyes widened briefly, not expecting the behavior from Enid.
“As I have informed you before, I was under the belief that someone was challenging me to see how long I could last without a coat.” Ignoring Xavier’s ‘who would do that?’ “Principal Weems had informed me just before the start of the break that the washing machines and dryers were merely unplugged, someone seemed to have forgot to place them back and that my nemesis might just be someone’s incompetence rather than malice.”
“That doesn’t explain why you’re wearing Yoko’s jacket and not mine.” Her eyes still green with envy.
“Regrettably my body could only handle so much of the cold, you were in werewolf class on the other side of the building. Before I could make my way over to your side, your acquaintance had offered hers and so I accepted.” Wednesday explained.
Enid felt her wolf side start to settle from the rage to pleased, her eyes losing its sharpness and her claws retracting. “You were looking for me? You wanted to wear my jacket?”
“Yes, you had been nothing but kind to me and I regret not showing you the appropriate gestures towards you.”
She could practically feel her wolf side wagging its tail and barking with happiness. The pleasant feeling washing over her, calming her raging heart. She almost felt complete, there was just one thing missing.
“Wednesday, take that jacket off. Wear mine instead.” The shorter girl looked slightly perplexed but complied, taking off the large leather jacket and feeling the sting of the cold for only a blessed moment before being enveloped in warmth once again. Enid immediately wrapped the jacket around Wednesday, unwilling to let her mate to suffer a moment more.
“Feeling better?” She huffed, seeing Wednesday in her jacket should not feel this good but she almost howled from happiness at the mere sight.
Wednesday shuffled a little and squinted her eyes. “Yours is different.” She observed.
“Different how?” Enid panicked, was it not warm enough, did it feel weird, did she not like the material, did she just prefer the other one?
Bring the collar up higher, Wednesday took a deep breath. “It smells like vanilla with a hint of strawberry.”
Oh, that was her scent. Wednesday picked up on her scent.
“Do you like it?” She asked, slightly worried.
She could see a light of amusement in Wednesday’s eyes as her lips parted upwards slightly which she tried to hide by bring the collar up higher. “It’s absolutely detestable.”
Enid’s heart must be driving a race car because it was ready to jump out of her body and straight into Wednesday’s hands. Hell, she’d tear it out herself and present it to the shorter girl if she could.
Allowing a dazed smile to make its way to her face, she brushed past her crush and straight into the quad. Her eyes zeroing in on a certain table, time to kill a vampire.
Xavier coughed a little to catch Wednesday’s attention away from the inevitable murder scene. “So that was something huh?”
Wednesday lifted a brow at him as if asking him to explain, ignoring the screams coming from Yoko’s table.
Xavier furrowed his brows trying to think of words that matched what was going through his scrambled brain, he himself wasn’t sure of everything that was going on but he could piece some parts of the puzzle.
“You know its just.” He clicked his tongue as if looking for the right words, zoning out the ‘shit her claws are out, run!’ from the background, accompanied by more shouts and screams. Shaking his head. “I’m sure the two of you will figure it out.”
Wednesday watched him leave, confusion building up. Was there something she was missing?
Taking a look at the half evacuated quad, where Enid was strangling Yoko with Divina and Bianca trying to pull her off the vampire.
Something was happening that made her feel lighter, she wasn’t sure what it was though.
…
Enid groaned as Thing dabbed the ice pack on her black eye. Seeing as how she had almost killed Yoko and a few of the other members of the table (sorry, but not really Kent) getting away with a black eye wasn’t so bad. Besides, it should heal up by tomorrow.
The best part about the whole thing was despite Wednesday’s laundry returning back to her room, she still wore Enid’s jacket. Her mate was starting to slowly accept a part of her.
Huh, she already started to think of Wednesday as her mate. She was only two steps in too.
A goofy grin making its way to her face, two down and eight more questionable steps to go.
“I’M IN!” She howled.
…
*Knock Knock*
Wednesday looked up from her book to see a piece of paper, not unlike the one from yesterday at the door.
Gently opening it, she was met with the same format as the previous one.
Can you please control your girlfriend? She nearly mauled mine.
-Divina
Wednesday furrowed her brows, do the people of this school really not know how to search up students rooms? Someone might actually take these letters seriously one day.
Throwing it in the trash with the one from the day before she went back to her book.

Chapter 4: Provide for your mate
Enid’s eyes darted around the library, making sure no one was peaking.
“The coast is clear, lets bust open the next chapter.” Enid whispered.
Thing gave her a thumbs up before scuttling away and digging into the floorboards to retrieve the book.
Taking a seat and opening the book, Enid skimmed the pages to the next step.
‘You’re doing an amazing job! Can you see the progress? I sure can, even though I’m a book.’
Enid felt a grin take over her face. She was definitely feeling a progress, Wednesday has yet to act out on her threats which was a major win.
Step three: Provide for your mate
‘Let us go back to the basics shall we? What does your mate need to survive? Food, water, equipment and such. You must be ready to provide all those resources to your mate no matter the situation. What if a blizzard goes on, do you wait for someone else to approach your mate under the guise of help? No, that person who claims are here to help? They are a competitor!’
Enid scratched her head feeling a bit unsure. “This kind of feels like an adult step, not for teenagers.” Thing patted her hand in reassurance.
‘You dear reader, are an apex predator. No one can get in your way to provide for your mate, eliminate all means of external production.’
Enid licked her lips and furrowed her brows in concentration. She is a werewolf, not a completely turned one yet, but still. She could do that, hunt things down and get food. She chose to ignore the last part though.
‘This is a strong moment in your courting ritual, your mate will start to rely on you for their needs. This way your mate will look no further than you for assistance, prove to your mate that you are all they need.’
Something stirred in the blonde’s chest, she closed her eyes and tried to imagine. The normally independent Wednesday who would rather burn her hand than ask anyone to turn down the heat, come to Enid with those smoldering dark eyes, furrowed brows and pouting lips, holding her hand out for assistance. Enid, I need your help. Her voice would whisper.
She shut the book and looked down at Thing. “We are way past the red flag zone, might as well indulge in it.” Thing shook his finger in agreement.
…
Enid opened the door to her dorm room and took a peak, everything looked normal so far. No signs of heavy destruction or traps, no weird smell that could lodge a complaint, Wednesday casually walking around at the center of the room organizing candles and drawing a pentagram on the floor, no signs of ene-
She whipped her head back to the center of the room, Wednesday was in fact there creating a round circle of candles to surround the midpoint line. Oh good, she wasn’t imagining it.
“This is your room as well Enid, no need to linger by the door.” The brunette said, still organizing whatever it was she was doing.
Enid swallowed hard, her heart thrashing in her chest. Although minor, she had noticed Wednesday’s attitude towards her slightly shift from the normally dismissive tone to a somewhat neutral one. Her features softening ever so slightly when they’re alone, showing that she somewhat trusts her. Also she was still wearing her jacket which was just perfect.
“Hey roomie, just enjoying the view.” Enid said, pointing at the circle that might just honestly summon a demon. Now that was a scary thought. She’d still fight it if it thought it could get anywhere near Wednesday.
Wednesday nodded her head in acknowledgment. “Yes, I’m planning on doing a séance to speak to my ancestor. I believe she might have some answers to the questions plaguing my mind.” She walked around the circle, her gaze not once leaving the site.
“Cool, sounds like a way to kill time right before midnight.” Honestly Enid was a girl in love, not suicidal.
“I regret that I must fill you with disappointment, as the séance is unlikely to work.” She said, closing the book in her hands and returning it to her desk.
“Why not? Looks like you have everything ready.” Don’t get her wrong, she’s happy that some other worldly creature isn’t going to come and eat their souls. But the slight frown marring her roommates face was unsettling.
“I have attempted to perform one earlier to no result, it would seem that I am missing a few pieces to completing it.” The slight slump in Wednesday’s posture showing her disappointment.
Enid’s eyes widened at the words. An opening to perform her third step right in front of her. This was her chance!
“I can get them for you!” She shouted eagerly.
Wednesday’s brows rose at the blonde’s excited energy.
“I appreciate your enthusiasm, however I believe it is my duty to retrieve all the items.” Wednesday said, shaking her head as she wrote on a piece of paper.
“It doesn’t have to be your duty alone, there’s nothing wrong with relying on me.” She was not letting Wednesday’s ego get in the way of her mission. What was her mission? Getting a hot goth girlfriend.
Enid watched carefully as Wednesday paused briefly, hesitance crossing her face. An opening!
“I have detention all day tomorrow because of my play fighting with Yoko, shouldn’t have given the damn jacket.” She mumbled the last part. “The teachers won’t even notice that I’m not there, it’s the perfect time to strike.”
Wednesday stood quietly looking down at the note on the table, pondering if she should take the offer.
“Besides, I have some of the best sources in Nevermore! I can get them all for you by tomorrow tops!” She insisted, pushing her advantage.
Wednesday took her eyes off the paper and made contact with her roommate’s eager ones. There was no fault in her logic and Enid was in fact one of the few people she held some respect towards. But should she? The stubborn part of her didn’t want to rely on anyone.
Thing scuttled on her table and began to sign. ‘While Enid and I gather the material, you can continue your investigation at the same time. Win win situation!’
As much as she loathed to admit it, they made a good point. However there was something tingling at the back of her head, growing up she knew people only dealt in transactions. What made this situation with Enid any different.
“What do you want in return?”
Enid blinked dumbly and tilted her head, reminiscent of a confused dog. She decided to eloquently respond with “Huh?”
Wednesday marched over towards her with narrowed eyes, crossing the divide of their room and standing not far from where Enid sat on the bed. “Come now, I am not so naïve enough to believe that you want nothing in return. What is crossing through your mind.”
Maybe if she focused hard enough she could see Enid’s two brain cells fighting over dominance on what to say.
Wednesday standing with her arms crossed directly in front of her, her brows furrowed in question with a curious glint in her eyes, her soft looking downturned lips, wearing her oversized jacket that swallowed the girls upper body whole and revealing her light tanned legs.
Honestly, what wasn’t crossing through her mind? Enid’s face was turning red, mouth opening and closing like a fish.
Wednesday leaned down and narrowed her eyes, her lips parted briefly forming words that weren’t registering in the werewolves head. Her lips had a slight shine to them, she wondered what they tasted like.
Enid answered with a gargling sound that reminded Wednesday of her brother when he was drowning.
“Enid, the language of a drowning werewolf is unfortunately not in my vocabulary.” Wednesday said, looking unimpressed at the werewolf who was struggling to breath.
An insistent tapping drew her attention away from the hyperventilating werewolf, walking back to her side of the room to see what Thing was doing.
The distance from her roommate helped Enid breath more clearly, no longer overwhelmed by the site or scent of her soon to be mate. Calming down her wheezing fit, she chanced a glance at Wednesday’s side to see she was still preoccupied. One of these days she was going to die from a panic attack and she blamed her stupid gay heart for it.
Enid coughed to get Wednesday’s attention and to make sure she was in fact still alive. The brunette fixed her gaze at the blonde, oh good her windpipe was still functioning.
“I’m not really interested in anything Wednesday, I just want to help.” She said, hoping her words would reach her roommate.
“I don’t believe you.” Wednesday said, staring back.
“It doesn’t have to be about belief, sometimes it’s just trust.” Enid said, reaching out to her closed off roommate. She saw Wednesday’s gaze flicker to her open hand and then back to her. Her heart beating a little quicker, was she reconsidering?
“I don’t trust anyone.” She deadpanned.
Yeah, this was going to be a long process.
…
Enid whistled innocently, her eyes flickering between the drowsy teacher and the open window. She tapped her fingers on the desk, communicating with the appendage hiding in her bag.
Thing popped out with a note between his fingers, crawling up the table and dropping the paper.
She gave him a thumbs up and opened the paper, written neatly was Wednesday’s list of items she needed. Feeling a grin slip into her face at having the normally reclusive goth rely on her if only very reluctantly. Seriously they had to argue for hours until the brunette relented, and the only reason she did was because Ms. Thornhill stormed up to their room because of their dorm mates complaints about their arguing, nosy jerks.
Her eyes scanned the list and made a mental note of all the listed items.
• Batch of newts eyes
• Fresh dead rodents
• Nature’s bounty
• Distilled nightshade
• Blood of a vampire
• Scales of a siren
Enid tucked the list into her pocket, the day was young and she had places to be. No rest for the love stricken fools she supposed.
…
Enid sat in the bushes waiting for her time to strike, escaping from school was surprisingly easy. No one was at the gates and they were wide open, if some asshole who didn’t like outcasts decided to show up one day he could just waltz through the gates like he owned the place.
She felt a tug on her hand, turning her attention to Thing who was impatiently tapping his fingers.
‘What are we waiting for? You didn’t explain our plan.’
Enid pulled out her phone and started typing on it, she lowered it so that Thing could take a look.
“Okay here’s the plan Thing, I used my sources to track down this truck. It has an order for Newts eyes that Wednesday needs, among other things. I’m gonna slash the cars body a little, when they inevitably come out to investigate you are going to break into the car and take out the supplies.” She explained.
‘That’s stealing.’ He signed.
“I mean yeah, how else am I going to get them? They sure as hell don’t sell them in Jericho.”
‘Stealing is wrong.’
“Since when do you have morals?” Enid asked in disbelief.
‘I don’t, I’m just really proud of you right now.’ He signed, giving her a thumbs up of approval.
Enid smiled at the animated hand, they really were partners in crime. If only Wednesday could see them now, she’d be giving her that adorable maniacal smile she did when someone would fall down the stairs or get seriously injured. The things she does for love.
The sound of rumbling caught her attention, she turned to the direction where the truck was going to inevitably come through. “You ready?”
Thing slapped himself against the ground. Good, he was ready.
They waited by the bushes as the truck started to get closer, as soon as it was in view they struck. Enid’s claws scratched loudly against the trucks back lock, forcing it open. Crushing the lock in her hand she tossed it beneath the car.
Thing quickly climbed into the truck while Enid jumped back into the bushes before the driver could spot her. Peaking from the bushes she saw two men investigate the site mumbling to each other about what could have caused the incident.
They took a look into the packages and once everything was accounted for, they started to strap the boxes with cables. Making sure everything was secured enough not to fall despite the missing lock, they decided to shrug it off and went back to the truck. This was way above their pay grade.
Once the trucks engine began to roar, Enid began to feel nervous. Where was Thing?
Jumping out of the hiding place she positioned herself behind the truck where the side mirrors couldn’t see her. She saw some shuffling coming from one of the boxes at the back.
“Thing get out quick, before they drive off!” She hissed. She could hear the machines handle break disengage.
She saw Thing pull up from the box, rapidly signing. ‘I found the newts eyes here! You won’t believe what else I found. Nail polish in the same box!’
“Forget the nail polish, we need to leave now.” She urged him.
‘But they have the exclusive third edition nail polish from the hot wolf catalogue!’ He exclaimed, holding up a silvery solution. Wait, the exclusive edition with a limited supply?
“Then get the whole box!” Enid squealed.
Thing yeeted himself and the box outside the truck before it drove off, the drivers oblivious to stolen packages.
Enid picked up the box and hummed to herself satisfied with the results. Getting Wednesday what she wants and nail polish? She was on a roll. She can now strike the newts eyes from her list of things to do.
She lowered her hand to Thing who eagerly climbed up and sat himself in the box rolling around the nail polish bottles.
“I think we did a great job there.”
…
Xavier shuffled around the woods, making his way towards the bee hut. He was on high alert, there was something strange about the woods today but he couldn’t place his finger on it.
Usually he would hear the birds singing and the scuttling of small creatures around. Why was it so quiet today?
Deciding to ignore it for now, he saw Eugene standing outside the hut with a honey jar in hand.
Eugene eyed the artist with suspicion, holding onto the jar like a mother would hold a child. “You got the stuff?” He asked narrowing his eyes.
Xavier nodded his head, holding out several rolled up drawings. “I can make them come to life now, to clear out some of the rodents in the area.” He pinched his nose at the ridiculousness of the situation. “Do we really have to do this? I don’t even want the honey.”
Eugene nodded his head solemnly. “Those monsters have been eating my precious bees Xavier, my bees!”
“They’re just animals Eugene, it’s what their supposed to do.” Xavier explained.
He heard the angry buzzing of the bees around him. ‘Oh piss off you overgrown flies.’
They heard a crackling sound from the bushes, alerting the two and the swarm of bees that something was close by. Whatever it was, it was getting closer. The bees surrounded Eugene in a defensive formation in anticipation of what was coming.
Xavier gulped a breath of air before opening a roll of one of his drawings, maybe if he summoned a deer or something it could scare off whatever was back there. The rustling of leaves stopped at the bush right next to their clearing.
A growl resonated from the woods making both boys shiver, something else was now coming closer and it wasn’t coming from the bush in front of them.
Xavier’s hands tightening against the drawing and Eugene holding his hand out ready to command his bees. Silence filled the space, waiting for who would make the first strike.
Soon the scuttling from the bush revealed itself in the form of a… hand?
Xavier blinked at the appendage, what the hell was that thing and why was it moving?
“Oh Thing, it’s just you.” Eugene let out a breathe of relief. The bees relaxed their formation and began to spread around.
“What do you mean oh Thing it’s just you? That’s an animated hand you’re talking to.” Xavier said pointing at the hand.
Thing began to shake in anger before flipping him off.
Oh, so it understands what they’re saying.
“He’s Wednesday’s family.” Eugene supplied.
Huh, that made perfect sense.
The growl returned once again, this time much closer. Both boys stilled before turning to the bush where Thing had come from. A shadow of a large beast began to form, stepping out of the spot revealing… Enid?
Xavier blinked in confusion, rubbing his eyes to make sure he was seeing properly. Sure enough, there stood Enid, her normally flawless hair covered with twigs and leaves, her eyes were slated and narrowed, her claws out and read to plunge into someone and wearing a dirty version of her uniform with a suspiciously large amount of blood covering her. Why was she holding a bag with blood dripping out of it?
Oh god, was she here to finish the job? He hasn’t spoken to Wednesday since yesterday. Maybe he could do something to calm her down? He turned his attention to Eugene in hopes of getting his support only to find him fainted on the floor.
Great, he was on his own. Again.
He raised his hand in surrender. “I mean you no harm.” God, he felt like he was talking to an alien.
Enid’s eyes focused on him briefly before turning away from him, she began to sniff the area as if trying to pinpoint a specific scent. Was she looking for something specific?
Her head snapped to Eugene’s fainted form, her clawed hand extended opening and closing making a give me motion.
Xavier furrowed his brows, trying to understand what Enid was trying to communicate. His eyes widened in realization upon seeing what she was looking at, the honey jar.
He slowly walked towards the fainted boy and removed the jar from his grasp, very aware of the feral werewolf sizing him up. He cautiously made his way to the impatient looking hand who was tapping the grass as if telling him to hurry up. Great, he was being bullied by a severed hand.
Placing the jar down near Thing, he watched as the hand snatched it away and scuttled back to Enid. The blonde eyed him suspiciously before following Thing who made his way through the woods.
Xavier decided it was safer not to go for walks in the woods anymore.
Eugene would later wake up to happy bee noises as the rodent population had dropped significantly on his side of the woods.
…
“I’m telling you Thing, you were imagining it. There was no way I feraled out like you said. I probably just fainted from the sight of blood.” Enid reasoned with the hand.
‘I know what I saw. Do it in front of Wednesday, I guarantee you can get her to be your girlfriend from that alone.’ He signed.
Walking towards the infirmary, the two continued back and forth about what happened. All Enid knew was she woke on the floor of her dorm room covered with blood but two items off the list, so score for her.
After taking a bath she walked up to the green house but Ms. Thornhill wasn’t there, though she did find a syringe of nightshade on the table and took it. Honestly, she should be more careful with where she drops her things. Apparently it was toxic or something. Not like she cared, that was something else off the list.
She walked into the infirmary and noticed none of the nurses were around. Weird but it worked in her favor so nothing to complain about.
She walked up to the refrigerator and opened it, blood packs were lined up for all kinds of purposes. She scrolled through them and frowned when she noticed there wasn’t any vampire blood. Now what was she supposed to do? Stab a student?
… Wait, maybe she can get away with that.
Her ears perked up when she heard a groan come from one of the curtained up beds, someone was here?
She followed the sound and peaked through the curtain to see who was there.
Lying on the bed with her face scrunched up was Yoko, her eyes scrunched up and groaning. Mumbling something in her sleep about Divina not sharing ice cream or something.
Enid was about to walk out and leave the vampire to rest until a thought of inspiration hit her.
Yoko was a vampire, Yoko had vampire blood, Enid needed vampire blood. Therefore all she needed to do was stab Yoko. All the dots were connecting.
Enid maneuvered around the table and found an empty syringe, time to play doctor.
“Rest in peace Yoko, your sacrifice will not be in vain.”
Yoko’s eyes shot open. “My sacri- what now?”
Enid clicked her tongue in annoyance, now it’s going to get more difficult. She hid the syringe from the vampire who was now trying to refocus her gaze.
“Enid is that you?” The vampire asked confused.
“Yeah, just little old me checking up on you. You should go back to sleep though, the nurse says you need your rest.” She said, pushing the vampire back on the bed.
Yoko shook her head. “Nah, I’ve been resting way too much. I think some wakey wakey time is needed.”
“Oh no, I insist on your rest.” Enid said shoving the vampire harder.
“You worry too much, besides, you’re the asshole who sent me here.”
“And that’s why I’m telling you to rest.” She hissed, wrestling the vampire back on the bed.
Yoko groaned before slumping back on the bed. “Fine, but can you at least give me some vampire blood? I need to replenish a little.”
“There’s no vamp- I mean where do I look?” She asked innocently.
“You see that fridge over there? Behind that fridge is another fridge.”
Enid stared at the vampire blankly. What kind of stupid logic was that? Maybe Nevermore was supposed to be a mental institution.
Enid moved from her spot and went for the fridge behind the fridge. Vampire blood was littered everywhere. Huh, guess she didn’t have to stab Yoko after all.
Picking up two, giving one to Thing who took it and began to scuttle out of the infirmary, she took the other to Yoko.
“So, how are you doing?” Enid asked innocently.
“I was doing great honestly, until my werewolf best friend decided to maul me yesterday.” Yoko said pointedly, drinking the blood from the bag directly.
Oh wow, was she really going to hold a grudge over that. A day had already passed, talk about dramatic.
“That? Yeah don’t worry about it, just werewolf hormones going overdrive. A full moon is coming up you know.” She said, downsizing her attempted murder.
A thought of inspiration hit her as she remembered her last item. “By the way, I wanted to ask you something. Since you’re dating Divina and all, you wouldn’t happen to know how to get some siren scales would you?”
“Siren scales? Man good luck with that. Only way you can get them to part with it is if their shedding it naturally like a snake or if they abandon it from fear, you’ll have to catch them off guard if you try that though.” Yoko explained.
Enid nodded her head in understanding. She knew exactly what to do.
Yoko watched the werewolf curiously as she got off from her seat and began to leave the room. “Hey, where are you off to?” She called out.
Enid flashed the vampire a dazzling smile.
“Fishing.”
…
Soft sounds of splashing could be heard in the lake, a bunch of sirens were swimming around casually enjoying the freezing temperatures of the water.
*SPLASH*
“Hey, did you guys hear that?” A siren called out to the others.
“Yeah it sounded like someone dropped something in the water.” Another answered.
A loud boom was heard, water erupting from the splash point shaking the lake, dead fish rising up.
“Holy shit, did somebody drop a grenade in the lake!?”
*SPLASH*
*SPLASH*
*SPLASH*
“Everyone swim for your lives!”
…
Enid slumped against the door of her dorm room. She finally got all the items she needed.
Dropping the siren scale on the ground with the rest of the items she retrieved she made a beeline for her bed. She was exhausted.
Her ears perked up hearing the water from the shower stop. Oh good, Wednesday was here.
Wednesday was here!
She shot up from the bed and stood at attention, waiting for her roommate to finish up to show her the spoils of war she had acquired.
Take that world, even if she wasn’t a fully transformed werewolf she could still provide for her mate.
Eagerly waiting for Wednesday to come out of the bathroom, her previous exhaustion all but a distant memory.
The door opened revealing Wednesday in a black t shift larger than her frame and small sho- wait was that her shirt?
“Welcome back Enid, I regret to inform you so late, however I have borrowed one of your clothes as my laundry has once again eluded me.” Wednesday said.
Thing flipped through the magazine innocently.
“No-No no no! That is completely fine, the best kind of fine. In fact you can have my whole wardrobe, I’ll give you the clothes I’m wearing now.” She began to tug on her t shirt.
“That will not be necessary, I do not wish to overstep your hospitality, lest I am forced to return a favor.” Her eyes traveled to the stack of items Enid had retrieved throughout the day.
Enid could see a gleam in her brown eyes as they widened ever so slightly, she must be surprised at her accomplishment.
Wednesday turned to Enid, giving the blonde her full attention. “It would seem that I do in fact owe you a favor Enid, please state it so that I may proceed with my séance.”
Enid thinned her lips, normally she would deny wanting a favor which would only result in the two arguing back and forth. She didn’t want that, she wanted something else.
Standing up from the bed, Enid walked up to Wednesday, meeting her at the tape divider.
“You’re right Wednesday, I do have a favor I want to ask of you.”
The shorter girl tilted her head slightly to show Enid she was listening.
Taking a deep breath Enid decided to let it all out. “You know what I want my favor to be? Something that I’ve wanted for a while now? For you to trust me, rely on me. I want you to believe that I’ll be there for you, no matter what happens.”
Taking a risk, she reached her hand out and held Wednesday’s hand, tugging it to her. She saw the brunette’s eye brows rise as her focus was once again on her face. “You don’t have to hold it all in Wednesday, I’ll always be here for you.”
For once in her life Wednesday felt speechless, if she focused hard enough she could hear her own heartbeat beat a little faster. Was she getting sick?
Enid was jolted from her trance when she felt Wednesday’s hands squeeze back ever so slightly. “I cannot promise you that I am capable of expressing myself so freely towards, but I can promise you that I will try.”
Enid smiled softly, feeling her heart holding a riot in her chest. Her wolf howling at the acknowledgment of her words. “That’s all I ask for.”
…
While typing Wednesday couldn’t help but spare a glance at her sleeping roommate every once in a while. Something was starting to change between them, she wasn’t sure what it was but something was happening. Wednesday didn’t like change, but this change? She was willing to give it a chance.
*Knock Knock*
Once again a piece of paper had found its way into their room.
Opening it, Wednesday read the note.
Hey so this is weird but, I think your girlfriend might have tried to commit genocide
-Kent
Wednesday furrowed her brows as she threw the paper in the trash.
Who was Kent?

Chapter 5: Deadly Serenade
Enid slumped against a chair and blew out a frustrated groan.
Her exhaustion for the search on the listed items had made her sleep through the whole night, leaving her with no time to read through the next step. Which was probably going to leave her unprepared or have her waste a day in preparation for the task.
She saw Thing scuttling his was over with the book, laying it over her lap.
She opened the book and scrolled to the next chapter.
Step four: Deadly Serenade
‘What is more romantic than having your mate sing in your honor? To be serenaded and swept away by your knight and shining armor? The answer is very obvious, a deadly serenade that makes any who dare stand in your way drop dead.’
Enid hummed to herself and nodded. Looks like they finally reached the part in the book where casualties were unavoidable.
‘What makes this serenade so different than others? Why this one dear reader forces everyone else (the other competitors) into utter submission as you crush their hopes and dreams.’
Enid furrowed her brows. “This seems like a hard step to do if you’re not a siren.” Thing shook a finger and pointed to the next paragraph.
‘This step you are holding nothing back, you are baring your heart out to your mate for all to hear. While this step may be easier for those of Siren heritage, that does not mean you need to lose hope. Use other means of boasting your true voice, modern technology exists for a reason you know.’
Enid shut the book as her eyes widened, she knew exactly what to do.
“Thing, we are going to do something so magnificent, so large and ambitious that the school will never be the same again.”
Thing circled her in excitement, finally some action.
…
Wednesday could only blink at the sound of the dorm room slamming open.
“Hi Wednesday!” The blonde said in a flurry of motion, picking up multiple devices from her own side of the room in haste.
The shorter girl tilted her head, observing her rainbow colored roommates leaving whisks of color in her vision from the speed of her movement.
She didn’t want to disturb the clearly busy blonde but based on their conversation from yesterday…
She cautiously approached the middle part of the room separated by tape. “Enid, I have an inquiry, I would like to-”
Before she could finish her sentence Enid was already running out the door.
“Bye Wednesday!” Enid yelled, shutting the door behind her.
Blinking in astonishment, Wednesday could only assume whatever the blonde was doing was an emergency.
She walked over to Enid’s side of the room and picked up the item she wanted to ask permission of before using.
‘Enid did say I could rely on her for things…’
…
Enid stood in the open courtyard of the school, looking up at the balcony of her room. Where Wednesday was no doubt still awake and probably confused.
Not for long though.
She heard the scuttling of Thing finalizing the surprise preparation behind her, she could do this. She knows in her heart she has to do this. She felt a slight tap on her foot, Thing letting her know everything was in place. All that was left was her signal.
Not turning away from the balcony she gave Thing a thumbs up, her face giving nothing away. “I was born ready.”
That was all he needed to know.
…
Bianca closed the lights to her dorm room, settling herself in her bed and snuggling into the warmth of the sheets. She needed her beauty sleep to ace that test tomorrow and show the rest of the class who was the superior student. She had reviewed her material thoroughly and even revised everything with Divina, she had no doubt in mind.
She could hear a slight buzzing sound, was it music? She supposed some of her annoying dorm mates must be the cause of it.
Slipping the eyes mask on her face she chose not to make a scene of it. No matter, it was only a mild nuisance that she could ignore for now.
Is what she thought.
Slowly the music started to increase in volume and sleep began to fade from her vision. Who was playing such loud music at this time of day?
She heard stumbling from the bed across from her, the noise awoke Divina as well it seems.
She took off her eye mask in time with Divina switching the light making her hiss. The short haired girl gave her no mind as she seemed to be concentrating on the sound, was she trying to decipher where it was coming from.
“Is that-” She interrupted herself, shaking her head in confusion. “Is that Taylor Swift?” She asked confused.
Bianca rubbed at her eyes. “Yes, it would seem one of our dear dorm mates wants to embrace death far earlier than planned for them.” She mumbled.
Divina shook her head. “It’s not coming from our dorm. It’s coming from the courtyard I think.” Her eyes widened. “Oh My God! Taylor Swift is here.”
Bianca stared at the girl blankly. “What are you on about now-” Her words were ignored as Divina rushed to wear a jacket over her Pyjamas. “Divina wait! Where are you-”
“I’m coming Tay Tay!” She yelled as the door slammed open leaving Bianca alone in the room. Alone with the music that was somehow increasing in volume.
…
“More Power Thing! Wednesday hasn’t come out of the room yet!” Enid yelled, hoping her voice could be heared over the machine.
Enid was standing over the fountain holding up a modern looking boom box blaring out love story by Taylor Swift. She wore her flashiest jacket making her look like a highlighter in the dark.
Thing gave her a thumbs up as he started tapping on her laptop, the volume steadily increasing. She could see lights begin to open up in the dorm rooms all around her. Loud enough to wake the student population and force them to give up their hope and dream? Perfect.
She watched one of the windows open up and saw a groggy looking Xavier peak his head out the window.
“Who’s causing all this no-” He froze when their eyes made contact. Her blue eyes gleaming in the dark as she gave him a sneer, revealing her sharp teeth.
He closed the windows and bolted it shut. He was not dealing with this tonight.
Enid felt a grin settle on her face, once again she had established dominance.
Her ears perked up when she heard a window open from the direction of Ophelia hall, she whipped her head up and- Oh, it was just Yoko from the room next door. She let out a sigh and shook her head.
“Hey! Don’t give me that disappointed look! I’m not the one playing music at twelve in the morning!” Yoko shouted from her room.
“I’m trying to serenade Wednesday!” She shouted back, if the short brunette hadn’t heard the music she sure won’t be hearing this.
“She’s your roommate! Serenade her in your own room!”
“NO! She needs to know how serious I am!” She yelled back. She made a hand gesture to Thing who began to increases the volume another notch.
She ignored the frustrated shout from Yoko, focusing her gaze at the still empty balcony of her room. She was sure all of Nevermore must be awake by now, how was Wednesday still not hearing this!?
…
Wednesday momentarily stopped her typing, her eyes traveling to the spider web design of the balcony. She could see it vibrate every once in a while and chose to ignore it, however it seemed to increase with time.
Should she investigate what was happening?
Her hands briefly reached up to remove the sound cancelling headphones resting on her head protecting her ears but paused, surely it could wait until she completed the chapter.
Satisfied with her reasoning she went back to writing, it was her favorite part, Viper was finally gathering concrete evidence proving the serial killers existence.
…
Back to the courtyard…
“ENID, YOU ARE MAKING ME HOMOPHOBIC!” Yoko screeched, trying to talk over the music.
“I’M TELLING DIVINA THAT!” She hollered back.
“I DON’T CARE! STOP THE DAMN MUSIC, I CAN’T HEAR MYSELF THINK!”
“I’M NOT STOPPING UNTIL WEDNESDAY SHOWS UP AND SEE’S ALL THIS!”
Yoko leaned over the window, half her body out of it. “WEDNESDAY, CONTROL YOUR FUCKING GIRLFRIEND.” She yelled.
Nothing but silence from the room, Yoko clenched her teeth as she receded back into her room and shutting the window.
Enid’s eyes lit up, Yoko was going to get Wednesday to listen to her serenade. She was a genius! Next time she’ll try to avoid maiming the vampire if the next step allowed it.
She picked up shuffling from the corner of her eyes, seeing Ajax and a bunch of gorgons stumbling into the courtyard with wide eyes.
She tensed her shoulders, she wasn’t going down without a fight.
“Dude.” She heard Ajax whisper. “I can see the colors coming out of the box.” His eyes filled with wonder, pointing at the boom box she was holding up.
“I can see the notes too!” Another one said in amazement. The group oo’d and ahh’d at the music. Slowly swaying to the beats.
Enid relaxed herself and released a sigh of relief. They weren’t trying to start trouble, they were just high.
“Sinclair!” A voice with venom filled her ears, turning her attention to the schools queen bee herself, Bianca.
“Hey! You here to join the party too?” Enid asked, gesturing to the gorgons who were full on dancing at this point.
“I am not here to do that, I am here to end this nonsense once and for all. It is far past curfew and you are causing a disturbance to the students. I demand you turn off your music right this instance.” Bianca demanded.
Enid glanced around the courtyard, some of the sirens were beginning to join in the dancing too.
“Let me think about it for a hot second, hmm, nope. Not gonna do that, not interested.” She shot back.
Bianca grit her teeth, trying to reign her temper in. “I’m not asking you, I’m telling you!” She sneered at the sight before her, the class idiots were all gathered together dancing like utter buffoons and- was that Divina and Kent? Dancing along!?
“What are you two doing?” She hissed at them.
“If I can’t find Taylor, I can at least dance to her.” Divina said swaying her hips.
“If you can’t beat them, join them.” Kent answered, imitating his sisters moves.
She shot the two a look before turning her attention to the blond werewolf who was staring down at her smugly. Her hands briefly touched the pendant hanging on her necklace, she didn’t like to use her abilities but this was an emergency.
Enid seemed to catch up to Bianca’s intentions, her eyes widened at what might happen. She closed her eyes and tried to focus on her breathing. She may not be a full grown werewolf yet but she was still one.
Taking a mouthful of air, she focused the air into her lungs and belted out a howl that shook the school. “AWOOOO!”
Her voice traveled through the walls of Nevermore, reaching every nook and cranny the school hid.
Bianca and the rest of the outcasts paused for a second in confusion, what was that all about?
Their answer came quickly when windows opened throughout the dorms, howls echoing back through the school, answering the blondes. Loud footsteps were heard as the werewolf’s in human form began to swarm the courtyard.
“More dancing dudes!” Ajax shouted, far too happy about the increase in the numbers of idiots.
Shouts of joy were spread as more bodies filled the make shift dance floor.
Bianca grit her teeth, with the added people, noise, music and howls it was impossible to get her voice through. She should have brought her rapier…
She felt a vibration come from her pants because she certainly didn’t hear it. Pulling her phone out she saw her group messages and private messages had been blown up by Yoko.
‘BITCH, GET YOUR ASS UP HERE AND HELP ME BREAK WEDNESDAY’S DOOR DOWN!’
She buried the confusion down and shot the werewolf a dirty look, who had the nerve to not even be looking her way. Just staring up at the balcony of her room.
Wait, was this all because of-
More buzzing interrupted her. ‘BITCH NOW!’
Performing a tactical retreat because Bianca Barclay was no coward who flees. Running up the stairs to Ophelia hall she could hear loud banging and yelling, pleading and begging to open the door.
Turning the corner she saw Yoko slamming her fists to the door of Wednesday and Enid’s room. “I’m begging you Wednesday, I’ll let you use me as practice for your archery skills, just please stop the music!”
“Yoko, have some dignity. We should not plead with Wednesday, she should hear our complaints as a concerned member of our society.” She explained.
Yoko stared at her blankly. “Wednesday hear our complaints? And Care?” She asked, emphasizing the word care.
Fair enough, the Addams girl might actually smile at their plight.
The two heard a scuttling sound near the stairs, turning to the sound the saw Thing waving at them before flipping them off and scrambling back down the stairs.
Both stared at the empty space of the stairs, a hand attached to nothing had just flipped them off and the loud blaring music still stinging their ears.
“Yoko, we’re going to kick the door down.”
…
Wednesday felt a tug of a smile break through her face. She completed the chapter and it was only one in the morning. Enough time to sleep and be dead for the morning.
She shot a curious look to the empty bed of her roommate, usually Enid was knocked out at this time but she was nowhere in sight.
Moving from her typewriter, she paused as she looked at the door of her dorm room which was shaking, maybe someone was knocking on it… really hard by the looks of it.
She walked over to the door, unlocked it and was met with Yoko and Bianca with raised feet ready to kick the door, pausing and looking at her bewildered.
She tilted her head and watched both of stand up straight and began to rapidly talk to her, their mouths were moving but no words were coming out. Which was weird because Bianca looked like she was absolutely foaming at the mouth and Yoko looked hysterical clutching at her hair wildly.
Oh, maybe she should take her headphones off.
Pulling the headphones down, she was met with a plethora of noises. Ranging from loud obnoxious music that seemed like Enid’s music to howls of werewolf’s which was odd as there was no full moon tonight and the sound of Bianca and Yoko spluttering out things.
“-That’s why you have to stop it.”
“-I’m on my knees! Stop Enid!”
Wednesday blinked at the two who were looking at her expectedly.
“I shall take care of what ails you.” She responded. The two girls looked at her shocked but grateful for her cooperation. Leaving the door and murmuring between each other. Relief written all over their faces and figures.
… She had no idea what they wanted, she just didn’t want them at her door anymore.
Walking towards the balcony where curiously enough, each step led her closer to the loud noises. Opening the glass piece she slipped through it and was met with a sight to remember.
The normally abandoned courtyard was filled to the brim with students, partying, singing and dancing like there was no tomorrow. If Weems caught them there might be no tomorrow for them. She did begrudgingly respect their audacity to do it so late and so openly. Her eyes curiously wondered between each student, some she recognized from her classes and others she didn’t.
Her eyes finally landed on someone she should have caught from the very beginning. If not for the loud flashy pink jacket then for the fact that she stood above the fountain with a device that spread the loud music in her hands. Their eyes meeting at that very moment.
She could see the soft glowing eyes of Enid staring at her from down below. Despite the loud music and the crowd around her, Enid was looking at her as if she were the only one there. Waiting for her the whole time.
Enid closed the music with a push of a button, never once taking her eyes off Wednesday. Ignoring the murmurs of the students she wanted to see how Wednesday was going to respond.
She saw Wednesday’s lips part, as if thinking of what to say. She felt the sound of her heart thundering against her eardrums waiting for the brunette to make a move.
Wednesday broke the eye contact first and leaned away from the balcony, leaving the space bare and empty, the way her heart felt at the moment her mate was no longer on sight.
…
Bianca once again settled into her bed, burrowed deep into her sheets like a fish underwater in her castle. Her mask covering her eyes and no music trying to destroy her eardrums. Maybe she did owe Wednesday one.
Sleep was knocking on her door, the sweet embrace of the sandman calling for her, she was almost there.
A loud intense sound began to blare through the window, forcing her eyes wide.
“Who the fuck?”
She ripped the mask off and stormed to her window, she opened it ready to give the blonde werewolf a piece of her mind. Only to see Enid was no longer carrying the death machine, in fact no sound was coming from the courtyard.
Her eyes trained on a small figure sitting at the balcony.
Wednesday was dead to her. She owed that pocket sized Beethoven nothing.
…
The students were staring up, looking up at the balcony of Ophelia halls highest room.
There sat Wednesday with a cello in hand, her hands gliding across the strings with such ease and dexterity, one could compare the soft touches of that of a lover. The stringed instrument resonating its tone across the school, promises of safety and warmth. Neither of which one would associate the Addams girl with.
The oddest part about the performance? Her eyes were never on a sheet of paper.
If you stood in the crowd you would think they were directed on you, yet her eyes were there for only one person. Wide blue eyes stared back into those dark eyes that gave nothing away.
Enid had never been one to appreciate classical music or instruments that weren’t electrical guitars or drums, yet standing there she felt like she would sit through hours of it if only to get a chance to stare into her mates beautiful eyes.
The performance had only lasted for the piece it was made for, not to linger or overstay its welcome. The performer had opted to follow, leaving the balcony as it once was.
As soon as the music had stopped, it felt like a trance had lifted. The once mesmerized students looked among themselves confused and murmured how they should probably go to sleep.
None noticed the blonde girl running, chasing the last wisps of music the performer had left.
…
Enid felt her heart beat to the sound of her steps, chasing after the look in Wednesday’s eyes that were reserved for her during the performance.
Taking three steps at a time she had made it to the highest point of Ophelia hall in no time. She slowed down as she reached the door, no lights were open, she hesitated before slowly opening the door.
She found Wednesday on her bed, laying on her side facing the wall. Slow even breaths reverberated through her small body.
Enid stumbled to her side of the room, sitting on the bed. Staring at Wednesday breathing, her mind trying to comprehend what had happened. She was sure the girl had rejected her serenade outright when she had left after she closed the music.
Only to return with her own performance that had left her body numb but her heart and brain in overdrive. It was not uncommon to hear Wednesday use her cello late at night, however none held the tone they had tonight. Something about it felt serene and honest, unlike her usual choice that held a sad or morbid feel to it.
She felt Thing tug at her hand, asking if she was okay.
“I am.” She said, laying down on the bed, facing Wednesday. “I think I’m going to be more than okay.”
Even if she denied it the next morning, she knew Wednesday had responded in the only way she can. It wasn’t a rejection.
…
Wednesday had no idea how long she stayed in the position she was in, her heart beating irregularly through the performance and when she heard the blonde enter their shared room.
She didn’t know what controlled her to do such a performance, but she knew it was the right thing to do at the time. For once she didn’t care for the people who could hear her inner musings, she released them the only way she knew how.
Hearing the sounds of slight snoring with a hint of growling, she surmised Enid was asleep.
Enid had been acting odd for the past few days, the blonde seemed determined to tear some of her walls down, the walls she had built and maintained so hard.
Why was she doing it? Did she have a motive?
Enid wasn’t the type to use something against her though, what was going through that thick headed wolf skull of hers?
*KNOCK KNOCK*
Wednesday calmly found herself making her way to the door, today it would seem was full of surprises. Rather than a note, she found a small stack of papers that barely fit through the doors opening.
Though the slightly bent nature of their door did leave a bigger gap, they’d have to get that checked.
She skimmed her fingers through the pages and frowned, there was at least twenty pages in this, did somebody accidentally drop their essay here?
Deciding to read the first paragraph to get an idea of what she was dealing with.
Listen here ace detective, your roommate is driving us all insane because she is in lo-
Skipping through the paper, she wanted to know who signed off on it.
And now you know the truth, the ball is in your court.
-Bianca Barclay
Wednesday didn’t spare the paper a second glance before throwing it in the trash. If Bianca wrote it, it definitely was not important.

Chapter 6: Active protection
Today was a good day.
Enid woke up in the morning feeling refreshed despite her near nonexistent sleep, waking up to Wednesday getting ready looking as gorgeous as ever. Laying on her bed, she watched the petit girl thoroughly make sure nothing was out of place.
There was an elegance to her movement that reminded Enid of those fancy ballet dancers who made something as simple as walking look like an art form. She could watch the brunette all day… In a non-creepy way of course.
She shifted from the bed, slowly rising up from her spot on the bed catching Wednesday’s attention. The normally stoic girl had given her a once over before tilting her head towards the door, letting her know she was going ahead.
Before leaving she paused by the door briefly, a look of hesitation on her face. Her lips twitching, contemplating if she should say what was on her mind or not. “I’ll see you during class.” She settled for that phrase before closing the door behind her.
Enid’s face broke into a grin, throwing herself back on the bed squealing into the pillow to block out the excited noises coming out of her.
“Thing! She never starts talking to me before breakfast unless I start the conversation! She initiated it!”
The hand poked out from under Wednesday’s bed, rushing towards her to give her a high five.
They were making good progress and they were reaching the half way line for the steps, she was almost at the finish line! She was not going to slow down.
Enid quickly dressed herself and rushed out the door, almost knocking over the half dead looking Yoko.
Why did she look so exhausted?
Ignoring the vampire for now. She made her way to the library, growling at the students gathered at the back, this was her zone. All of them bolted out of the chairs in fright, being terrorized by a territorial werewolf was not in their agenda today.
Taking a look to make sure no one had lingered, she opened her bag and released Thing.
He quickly scampered towards the books hiding place and set it on her lap, making himself comfy on her shoulder to read with her.
She opened the book, revealing the advice column
‘Dear reader, you have no idea how proud I am that you have made it this far. B now the progress you went through to crack into our mates heart must be bounds stronger than it was before. Congratulations and remember, I am here for you… Even if I am inanimate object.’
Enid felt a grin break through her face. The past few days was a monumental change in her and Wednesday’s relationship and she had this book to thank. Sure some of it may raise a few red flags or something that might send you to jail but it works, who was she to question unethical behavior?
Buzzing in her seat, she flipped the page and skipped to the next chapter.
Step five: Active protection
‘Do you know what your mate is doing at all times? Do you believe that someone might not try to swoop in when your back is turned? Think again, for the world is against you and only you can rely on yourself to ensure your mate remains unmarked.’
Enid nodded her head a bit. “Active protection huh? Sounds like stalking with a flourish.”
‘Stalk your mate, watch their every move. Don’t let them out of our sights for a second. Watch everything they do and remember, don’t get caught. Otherwise you have some explaining to do, if not to your mate then potentially the police.’
Enid hummed to herself and furrowed her brows. “You think I can do this without getting caught?” She asked Thing curiously. He gave her a thumbs up, at least someone believed in her stalking skills.
‘You must remain vigilant over your mate, you may trust them but do you trust the others? The insects that fly around like leeches waiting for a vulnerable moment?’
Enid shook her head and growled. “Thing! We are going to stalk Wednesday and crack a few skulls!”
Thing cheered with her. ‘Finally violence!’
…
Blue eyes peered through the thorny branches of the bushes, staring at the rigid form of her soon to be mate sitting at a wooden table by herself, a knife in one hand and a shaking squirrel in the other. She was so cute when she looked ready to maim something, a sadistic glint in those normally dead eyes.
So far so good, Enid thought to herself. No one has tried to approach Wednesday yet and she was going to make sure of it.
Ignoring the questioning looks she was getting from passerby’s for crouching behind a leafless bush, her focus was solely on Wednesday, she had to make sure her mate was safe.
Taking out her notebook, she decided to document everything that happened on site for reference.
- 7:30, Wednesday was already at the table when she hid in the bushes
- 7:31, No one has approached Wednesday… yet
- 7:31, Wednesday looks hot
- 7:32, the knife was edging closer to the rodent.
- 7:32, the maniacal smile on her face made her squeal a little too loudly
- 7:33, playing dead when Wednesday turned to look at the bushes, still not caught. Score Enid
- 7:34, the squirrel escaped. Wednesday was not happy. Note to self, get her a new one, preferably a living one
- 7:35, Wednesday was carving the table with a little too much force
- 7:36, Wednesday still looks hot
She heard the sound of shuffling near her but ignored it in favor of her stalking or ‘protection services’ as Thing had said if they got caught. IF they got caught, they were way too professional for that though.
“Hey dude, what are we doing?” Ajax asked, crouching near her. Squinting his eyes trying to see what Enid was looking at.
“Keeping watch for dead people walking.” She answered, she furrowed her brows. Was that girl walking down the corridor looking at her Wednesday? She was going to keep a close eye on her.
Ajax’s eyes widened. “Dude, like zombies?” He whispered.
Enid hummed. “The permanent kind when I get my hands on them.” Was that boy from another table waving at Wednesday? Very suspicious, a new entry to her notebook.
“Yo, is everyone here a zombie?” He began to frantically look around, scanning the site. How high was he exactly?
Enid growled as she saw a girl walk past Wednesday’s table, was she a threat? I mean the quad was pretty big, she didn’t have to walk past that specific table. That girl was on her shit list already.
Hearing someone else crouch to her right didn’t make her lose focus of watch duty, notebook still in hand scribbling the name of potential suspects.
“Enid, why are we hiding in the bushes staring at your girlfriend like a bunch of creeps?” Divina asked, shifting in her spot uncomfortable on the ground.
She whipped her head to Divina so quickly the girl stumbled from shock. “You think Wednesday and I are dating?” she asked with wide eyes a maniacal grin on her face.
“I mean yeah, I would hope so.” She said, her eyes on Enid’s notebook with unhidden confusion. Taking note of the many concerning details written about Wednesday’s day and a highlighted spot written hit list with a few student names listed.
She shut the book and shot the girl a grin. “Don’t worry about it.”
“I am very worried about this.” She responded, waving her hands on where they’re sitting.
“Dudes, not so loud! The zombies can hear us.” Ajax said, warily looking around them.
“What the hell are you on about now?” Divina asked confused.
Enid’s ear twitched as she heard Wednesday’s monotone voice, she was talking to someone! She whirled to the noise to see who dared try to approach her mate.
Yoko stood across from Wednesday slouched and looking miserable, her sunglasses off skew revealing tired red eyes and bags beneath them. She dared to talk to Wednesday while her back was turned? Fucking traitor.
She strained to hear what the two were talking about but couldn’t over the arguing going on next to her.
…
“Wednesday, I am five seconds away from getting down on my knees. I’m going to fail botany class if I don’t submit the assignment today.” Yoko pleaded with the shorter girl.
“I understand your predicament, I am merely inquiring over why you are approaching me for assistance over something so trivial. I am aware that Bianca also holds high grades in the class.” Wednesday responded.
“Because queen bee is now queen pissy pants, she didn’t get her beauty sleep and is now ignoring everyone. Which is why I’m here!” Yoko shouted.
Wednesday stared the vampire down with a frown, she supposed she did owe her for sharing her jacket a few days ago when she was freezing due to her own stubbornness.
“Very well, I will allow you to copy my work.” She relented, reaching over her bag.
Yoko let out an exhale of relief. Finally, something was going her way today. Her eyes scanned the crowd of students intermingling and chatting amongst themselves, such a wonderful moment, to appreciate your youth to its fullest.
Her sight landed on movement going on behind a bush which really hid nothing, as all the leaves fell from the harsh winter frost. She narrowed her eyes as she tried to make out what was going on there, was that Divina and Ajax arguing?
Her eyes landed on gleaming blue ones that were staring right back at her, what was Enid doing back there?
She watched in concern as the blonde raise her hand to her neck, poking a thumb out of her fist and made a slicing motion across her neck.
Oh, she was going to die today.
Wednesday huffed as she finally got the papers out of her bag. “Here is the assignment, you may use it as you please as long as it is returned to me in mint condition.”
Yoko ignored her, staring at something behind Wednesday.
“You know what? I was actually thinking to myself that failing botany doesn’t sound so bad.” Yoko said turning around and running, ignoring the confused look on the brunettes face.
Xavier peaked his head out when he saw Yoko sprint past him. “Hey, did you ask Wednesday for the assignment?” He called out to her.
“The fuck I will!” She shouted back.
He turned to the quad, where Wednesday was standing. Brows furrowed, trying to piece together what was happening. Not far behind her Enid was frothing at the mouth as her eyes landed on him.
He turned and hid behind the school columns. His dad always told him to try new things, failing botany could be a new experience for him.
…
Enid nodded her head in satisfaction. She had managed to remove two threats in a matter of seconds. She was still adding them to the list though.
“Ugh, can you believe it? I’ve been texting Yoko from the morning and she hasn’t answered them at all, doesn’t come over to my dorm to pick me up and now she shows up looking like she’s half dead and makes a beeline for Addams? And she doesn’t even have the decency to stick around to take what she clearly asked for? I just can’t with that girl sometimes.” Divina complained.
Thing peaked out of Enid’s bag and signed. ‘Preach girl.’
“Enid, why do you have a dismembered hand in your bag?” Divina asked confused.
“Enid, is that a zombie hand? Did the zombies get to you?” Ajax asked.
The shrill sound of the bell announced the start of classes, Enid stood upright from her crouched position startling the students around who didn’t notice her. Ignoring Ajax’s existential crisis and Divinas confusion, she shoved through the students on her way to trail after Wednesday and began to walk behind her like a shadow. A rainbow colored one but still a shadow.
Besides it’s not like Wednesday knew she was being followed…
…
She was being followed, she was sure of it.
Since breakfast she felt eyes on her, watching her, observing her, waiting for something. Whoever was out there would rue the day they were born, how dare they try to make her feel like prey?
Her hands reaching out in her pocket where her knife was tucked in, she was ready for anything.
Classes had come and gone, moving swiftly and quickly from class to class without fail. Yet those eyes still persisted on her person. When did they plan on striking? At the end of the day, when she was asleep or when she was writing? She hand to find out.
Her eyes scanned the surroundings, she was in botany class. Ms. Thornhill was lecturing the class on responsibility and how she was disappointed that most of them had not completed their assignments on time.
She watched each classmate, sizing them up. Ajax had his hands on his head, gripping onto his beanie mumbling something about zombies. Yoko looked like her soul was ripped out of her body with how she was slumped over the table passed out. Divina was on her phone texting someone or multiple people with how the sound of messages were blaring throughout the class. The guy who looked like Divina was poking Yoko with his pencil. Bianca was gripping her hands tightly ready to murder someone as her phone was blowing up with messages, bags beneath her normally flawless eyes. Someone didn’t sleep well last night it would seem.
Her eyes landed on Xavier, who was fidgeting in his seat. He would look at her direction briefly before quickly diverting his attention elsewhere. He was acting awfully suspicious.
She turned her attention back to Ms. Thornhill who was still lecturing a non-responsive class, she could still feel those eyes on her, like they were right next to her, right within reach.
Wednesday mumbled something to herself and angrily wrote on her notebook. Her mind preoccupied, she didn’t notice the girl sitting to her right.
Enid couldn’t help but smile, sitting right next to her roommate. Wednesday was so cute when she was frustrated with something.
…
Bianca Barclay was going to be sick.
If it wasn’t bad enough that she wasn’t able to get proper sleep last night, the source of her headaches from the night prior were running amok giving her more migraines by the second.
From the beginning of the day she had watched the insane werewolf chase people away from Wednesday no matter how innocent the interaction or even lack of interaction, students were fleeing on site when the goth girl was walking from class to class hoping not to anger the not so subtle blonde who followed her like a rainbow colored tank.
She had tried to approach their principal about the topic, Weems could only groan and drink straight from the wine bottle when she mentioned Wednesday’s name, which to be fair she didn’t blame her but it was still an issue. She could barely make out the words, ‘damn Addams and their stupid love curse driving me insane.’ Seeing that Weems was drunk, she chose to ignore her and confront the Addams head on.
Why Wednesday and not Enid? Because she didn’t have a death wish like half the idiots in the school and between the two Wednesday was the one with a functioning brain.
She heard a ping from her phone, looking down at the screen a new message from Xavier popped up. ‘Enid is in werewolf class, whatever you have planned you better start now.’
The blonde menace was preoccupied with a compulsory course, which meant Wednesday was fair game to tackle.
She heard another ping and saw Yoko’s message. ‘She’s in the courtyard not far from the greenhouse and she’s alone, attack!’
She bolted down the stairs and headed towards the direction of the greenhouse, sure enough she saw Wednesday crouching on the ground, her hands touching the grass focused on something there. She briefly made eye contact with her but Wednesday went back to touching the grass, tugging on the roots for some reason.
She saw Yoko hiding behind the bus, slowly making her way towards the unsuspecting girl. A small crunch was heard as the vampire stepped on a small branch.
They both stilled when Wednesday glanced towards the source of the noise, a hand making its way to her bag to reveal…
“Is that a fucking machete?” Yoko asked alarmed, shooting up from her position with her hands above her head in surrender.
Wednesday merely nodded her head and tilted her head, as if asking was it really weird to have a machete in our school bag? Because yes, yes it is.
“You never know what you may face one day, I believe it is best to be prepared for all situations.” She said, stating it like it was a matter of fact.
“What kind of situation could possibly warrant a machete?” Bianca asked, baffled at the weapon on hand.
“In cases where I suspect I am being followed.” Wednesday said, her eyes narrowing at them both.
Yoko waved her hands around. “It’s not us, I swear! I’m like half-awake as it is!” She pleaded for her life.
“I have far better things to do than follow you around Addams.” Bianca scoffed.
Wednesday arched her brows, her machete swaying between the two of them. Oh yeah, they were doing just that right now.
“This doesn’t count.” They said in unison.
Bianca shook her head and stepped forward. “Listen, we are not here because we’re following you. We are here because someone else is following you around.”
Wednesday blinked, she pressed her lips together and tilted her head. At least she seemed to consider what they were saying. A few moments passed before Wednesday returned the machete back to the bag.
“I have considered your points and I agree, the two of you could not possibly be cunning enough to pull this stunt.” She said, stating it like it was a fact.
Well fuck you too Wednesday.
Yoko coughed gaining their attention. “Well, since the murder weapon is no longer here and we have all come to an agreement. Let’s phase over to the Wednesday has a stalker problem.”
“The stalker is no problem, I just need a find whoever it is and stab them.” Wednesday responded.
Bianca rolled her eyes, ignoring Yoko’s ‘why do you have to stab everything?’ and started walking over to Wednesday.
“Wednesday, let’s start off with who the stalker is, can’t you think of anyone who would follow you around and try to scare unwanted attention away from you?” She asked, hoping to poke some sense into her.
Wednesday pondered for a moment, trying to piece a puzzle together.
“Someone who might want to get closer to you?” Bianca pushed.
Wednesday’s brows raised, as if coming to a realization. “Of course, how could I be so blind?” She mumbled to herself.
Bianca let out a sigh of relief, finally some headway was made.
“They are watching my every move, they must be waiting for me to lower my guard.”
Bianca blinked. “What?” She asked dumbly.
“I feel like there are eyes on me at all times, like someone is watching me. Stalking me... It must be the serial killer.” Wednesday said, a slight upturn to her lips. She finally cracked the code.
“Hold on, let me burst your bubble there and just tell you that it’s Enid.” Yoko said, tired of waiting for Wednesday to connect the dots.
It was too late, Wednesday was already theorizing.
“The stalker must be someone close by, someone who has access to the school and all my classes. They know everything that I do.”
“It’s Enid.” Bianca said blankly.
“Someone who must hold some kind of fascination towards my actions? Are they an admirer of my dark ways or someone who holds a grudge?”
“I can tell you for a fact that it’s Enid.” Bianca insisted.
“But something is off, surely there must be more to this puzzle piece.”
“There’s no puzzle piece, it’s Enid!” Yoko yelled.
Wednesday’s head shot up, a gleam in her wide eyes. “What if there are two people involved, the stalker who keeps tabs on me and the serial killer who commits the crimes. That opens so many possibilities.”
She jerks her head to the two girls near her. “We need to identify who the stalker is.” A determined look in her eyes.
Bianca was going to throttle her.
…
Enid was vibrating on her spot, her claws out and teeth chattering loudly as they clanked together. She had only been in class for half an hour but her nerves were already on edge, she had no way of knowing what Wednesday was doing at this exact point in time. She had already snatched the girls schedule and knew she had a free period because one of her teachers were out sick, which meant she could be anywhere right now.
And no it wasn’t creepy that she knew all this, Thing had assured her it was completely normal.
“Hey Enid!” She heard someone call out to her from the back of the class, she took a glance and saw her twin brothers calling her over. “Isn’t that your girlfriend down there?” One of them asked, pointing at something from the window.
There was no other words to describe it, she lunged from her seat and smashed herself against the window. Ignoring the yelps of surprise other werewolves gave at her burst of speed. Never get in the way of a werewolf in love.
Wednesday was in fact down at the courtyard… Who was talking to Bianca and Yoko? Why were they talking? Wednesday hates them, or Bianca to be specific.
She narrowed her eyes, Bianca was getting awfully close down there, a little too cozy for her comfort. She could feel her claws sinking into the glass, her teeth elongating further, pricking her lower lips. Her eyes narrowing in envy, only she should be that close to Wednesday. She heard a howl of agreement ringing through her head, clearly her wolf agreed.
“Yo, is Enid wolfing out?” Her brother asked trying to whisper to his twin.
“Can you wolf out in the day?” The other one asked.
Enid ignored the squabbling twins her attention focused solely on Wednesday and the two girls flanking her until she saw something glinting from the forest, something that looked sharp and far too deadly to be out in the open. Hey sharp eyes noted there was movement there as well, someone out there was holding it.
She could feel her muscles tear and her bones crack within her, growing taller as her body creaked in protest of the shift, her jaw was starting to elongate slightly to reveal a half transformed maw.
Yet her eyes remained on the threat, the figure was slowly stalking its way towards the bushes, a hand raised with the weapon aimed towards Wednesday.
The glass cracked under the pressure of her grip as she slammed herself against the window, ignoring the shattering of glass piercing her skin and the pain on her legs as she landed on the ground from a few floors up. Her priority was her mate’s safety.
…
Wednesday ignored the two girls in front of her in favor of surveying the site. Something out there was making her feel uneasy, like she was being watched again… The stalker was here.
The sound of glass breaking tore her attention away from the forest, a half transformed werewolf was diving towards the floor fast. She heard it grunt, as it began to shakily stand on its hind legs, she could make out the tearing of the Nevermore uniform barely clinging to its body. Its fur splashed around in places and empty in others and golden fur reflecting heavily in the sunlight. She could make out tufts of blue and pink of dyed hair on the hair where a half transformed maw was, settling on bright blue eyes.
It couldn’t be, was that Enid? No one else would be caught dead looking that bright and it fit the blonde girl so much, it couldn’t possibly be anyone else.
Wednesday was in a trance, the majestic form of a half transformed werewolf was a sight to behold. She could stand there staring at it forever.
So preoccupied with Enid’s new form she didn’t notice the glint of the weapon until it was already soaring through the air, headed towards her. She realized it too late and she couldn’t shift her body away from it.
Anticipating the sting of a knife only to be met with a full body slam as her body was thrown to the ground harshly, blinking out the dizziness from her sight she could make out Enid’s maw and the snarl on her face, a light dribble of blood falling from a scratch on her face falling on Wednesday. A growl escaped Enid’s jaws as she lunged towards the forest, chasing down whoever threw the weapon.
Wednesday stumbled up from the ground, she watched as her blond roommate disappear into the woods. She felt hands on her bod trying to steady her, her eyes made it the shapes of Bianca and Yoko’s faces.
“Wednesday, are you okay?” She wasn’t sure which of the two asked but she ignored them and pushed them away, her legs taking her to the forest. “Wednesday?!” They called after her but she pushed forward.
She had to find out who the stalker was… And help Enid.
…
Prey attack mate
The words were ringing through Enid’s head as she chased the cloaked figure into the forest.
Prey hurt mate
Enid growled as she forced her body to run faster, closing the distance between the two.
Kill prey
She lunged at the figure and crashed into them, her hands forcing them down and her jaw open wide to bite down on her prey.
She felt the body beneath her shake in a frenzy, she closed her maw and looked down at the prey curiously
Expecting to hear whimpers of fear she was surprised to see the noise give way to cackling laughter.
“Woo boy! I haven’t had a chase this great since I escaped from that max security prison in Russia!” The body beneath her cackled far too happily.
Enid tilted her head and looked down at the person she captured. A rather odd looking bald man with sunken dark eyes and a smile far too deranged to be normal. Despite having only seen him for the first time, something about his scent was familiar… Who was this freak?
As if reading her mind the older man shot up his hand from the ground. “The names Fester, Fester Addams but you can call me uncle Fester!”
Something clicked in her head. Fester Addams, Addams. He was related to Wednesday and why his scent was somewhat familiar. Enid slowly backed off the eccentric man and gave him a once over, the man got up far too quickly for a normal human. Which was to be expected from an Addams.
“You know, I was just touring the open roads, enjoying the scenery and running from the police, you know fun stuff. And then I thought why not give my favorite niece a visit, make sure she’s still sharp and ready for an assassination attempt.” He said, explaining to the wolf.
Why anyone would prepare for an assassination attempt she would never know, she tried to voice this out but could only bark.
Apparently uncle Fester could speak wolf because he nodded his head. “Listen, I know it sounds weird but my ex-wife kind of tried of kill off my whole family so you never know what’ll happen.” He explained.
What is wrong with you? She barked again.
“Beats me, the last guy who tried to psychoanalyze me ended up in an asylum. Still no idea where that puts me.” He could only shrug.
Well, at least she knew Wednesday wasn’t the only odd one in her family.
Her ears perked up, the sounds of footsteps and light panting was coming towards them from behind her.
“Well wolfy, that’s my sign to skedaddle! Make sure to take care of Wednesday for me alright? If you don’t, I’ll skin you and turn you to a carpet!” He cackled as he began to leave.
Enid growled at him, not pleased with his words.
“Oh, one more thing wolfy!” He turned and reached out in his jacket, half expecting a weapon to pop out, she was pleasantly surprised when she saw him give her a thumbs up. “Only a murder machine ready to kill could be good enough for an Addams. I approve!” He said gleefully.
Enid stopped growling and looked at the fading man with surprise, the clinically insane man said he approved?
That made him her third favorite Addams!
She felt her body begin to shift, muscles aching and bones cracking once more. Her jaw painfully retracting ti its original form and her sharp teeth receding. She let out a whine at the pain she was feeling, crossing her arms around her abdomen in hopes of reducing it.
Once her body had returned to normal, she grabbed the tree trunk to support herself in a standing position. She felt the world spin in its axis and clutched the trunk tightly.
She steadied her breath before finally letting it go. She turned around only to come face to face with Wednesday.
“You have a lot of explaining to do.” She said, her eyes set in a harsh stare.
She felt her mouth open but no words came out, only a pitiful whimper of pain.
Wednesday’s dark eyes softened at the sound. Normally a sound of weakness would make her scowl but she would make an exception for her today. “Come inside and I will treat you first, then you can explain yourself.” She said, her voice softer than anything the blonde had heard.
She nodded her head and slipped her hands into Wednesdays, intertwining their fingers, wanting to feel the comfort of warmth from the other girl. Letting out a sigh of relief at the lack of rejection, she decided to say nothing of the tightening of Wednesday’s grasp on her hands.
…
“-And that is how I defeated your uncle Fester. It wasn’t that hard” Enid bragged, repeating her story and flopping on her bed with an exaggerated flourish.
Wednesday hummed a little, placing a band aid on her hand. Enid was far too giddy about being touched by Wednesday, should she pretend she was still injured and ask for a hug? Nah, that was pushing it.
“Allow me to summarize you’re tale, you had somehow sensed that I was in danger from your classroom, half transformed into your werewolf state and valiantly chased after my stalker who had turned out to be my uncle, made him beg for mercy to which you released him only under the condition that he owes you a life debt?” She recounted, her brow raised in question.
Enid licked her lips, so she might have embellished the details a little here and there, edited out the parts where she was the actual stalker and the confrontation with uncle Fester went slightly differently. But it was for a good cause.
“Yup, exactly how I remember it.” She said, nodding her head.
From the slight upturn of her lips, Enid knew Wednesday didn’t believe her but was amused nonetheless.
“You seem to be in good health, thankfully your werewolf abilities encompasses healing so most of the damage is gone. I should inform you that I found you’re half transformed form a fascinating site.” She said, removing the first aid kit back into the bathroom.
Enid couldn’t help the dopey smile from escaping her face. Wednesday thought she was fascinating.
She hissed as her hand made contact with her cheek, the scratch from the dagger he threw still present on her face. He just had to use silver didn’t he?
Fuck uncle Fester.
Enid jolted when she felt a hand gently touch her face, nudging her to meet Wednesday’s. With a softness she didn’t know the brunette possessed, she placed a band aid on Enid’s cheek where the knife brushed her.
“I sincerely apologize for the trouble I seem to cause you whenever I am around. I can only hope that such actions do not surface again.” She said, her thumb lightly tracing the band aid.
Enid’s hand twitched as she brought it up to meet Wednesday’s hand, gently caressing it. “I would do it all over again, a thousand times over if it means you never get hurt.” She whispered.
Wednesday’s eyes widened before she slipped away, leaving the blonde disappointed at the loss of touch. She could hear her heartbeat loud in her ears, what was possessing her? Did someone put a curse on her? She turned away from Enid, closed her eyes and breathing hard, willing her heart to calm down.
“You need to rest Enid, so that you may recover.” She finally said, making her way over to her side of the room.
Enid let out a hum, feeling the day’s events and the transformation taking a toll on her body. “Goodnight Wednesday.” She mumbled.
If she heard a goodnight from Wednesday that was not supposed to be heard from how softly it was uttered, then that was between her and her slowly drifting conscious.
…
Wednesday laid on her bed wide awake, it was starting to become a habit that she wasn’t very fond of.
She who avoided contact with everyone, went out of her way to not only help Enid heal (instead of taking her to the infirmary) but also to touch and caress her.
Something was wrong with her, her heart was beating faster and spiders were starting to crawl their way inside of her.
Did Enid curse her with something? Maybe some poison when she wasn’t looking?
*KNOCK KNOCK*
Almost like clockwork, someone graced their door with another note.
Getting up from her bed she picked up the note. At least it was a note this time and not Bianca’s history report.
You two are so fucking gay, I feel like a straight woman and I don’t like it
-Yoko
Wednesday shook her head and tossed the note into the trash, she was going to have to leave a sign outside their door letting people know that the room was occupied and not a confessional.

Chapter Text
Chapter 7: Brag about yourself
Enid sat on the chair in the abandoned part of the library her head in the clouds, relishing the lingering touch of Wednesday’s hands on her cheek.
She was never washing that side of her face ever again.
She was brought back to reality by Thing’s insistent tapping. ‘We have to do this quick, the field trip to that stupid pilgrim thing is today.’ He signed quickly.
Enid shot up from her slouch and grabbed the book. Maybe the book could guide her on how to act during outreach day.
She flipped through the pages and landed on the next step.
Step Six: Brag about yourself
‘Ever heard the saying that being humble is good? Ignore it, throw it in the trash and burn it. No good as ever come from being humble, what are you, some loser? No, you are a predator on the prowl that’s ready to claim your mate!’
Enid tilted her head with a slight smile, if there’s anything she could do, talking was certainly one of them.
‘Dear reader, you are no longer allowed to be passive when it comes to your mate. You have already shown the other competitors who’s boss, the know now to keep their distance. However does your mate know how great you are?’
Enid wouldn’t call what she had done as passive but the book would know better so…
‘Talk your mate’s ears off, have them memorize all your best attributes by heart. That way they never have to consider going to anyone else for any attribute you possess. Reminder, you all allowed to embellish some facts here and there, so what if you don’t know how to bury a living body, not like your mate would know any better.’
Enid slammed the book shut. “Thing, I’m gonna need you to wingman me hard buddy.”
‘I got your back you gay disaster.’ He signed.
…
Enid ran down the stairs, making a beeline for the shuttles that went to Jericho. The students that caught sight of her immediately scattered, shoving each other to get out of the blondes way, which inevitably made a path to Wednesday.
Oh wow, must be her class representative privileges. She’ll definitely flex that more later down the line.
She made it just in time to see Wednesday make her way inside the shuttle, sprinting forward she shoved Xavier who was behind the short girl in line, ignoring his ‘I didn’t do anything!’ she quickly followed after Wednesday to her seat.
Wednesday for her part only blinked in surprise but shifted to the other seat to make space for the far too eager blond.
Enid sat down with a large grin, Wednesday was stuck in the window seat and can’t escape, and she was not going to let this chance slip past her.
She shoved her hand into her bag and dug through the contents. Thing, who was hiding there, shoved a piece of paper into her outstretched hand.
Thing had compiled a list of things for her to brag about to Wednesday, taking a look at the list she made a mental note of them and shoved it in her pocket.
Ignoring Xavier who walked passed them groggily, Enid casually throw her arm around Wednesday’s headrest.
“You know Wednesday, there’s a lot of things about me you didn’t know. Great things in fact.” Enid started off.
Wednesday shifted her gaze from the window to the blonde, quirking her brows curiously.
“You know how I’m like the number gossip queen in the school right? That means I know everything about everyone, which means if there’s anything you need to know I’m your number one girl.” She wasn’t exactly wrong, she knew a lot of things.
Wednesday furrowed her brows. “You didn’t know anything about Rowan though.” She responded.
Well shit, she didn’t expect to be called out so blatantly.
“No one cares about Rowan though, maybe he’s traveling with his family or dead in a ditch. You never know. Completely irrelevant.” Fucking nailed it.
“His disappearance is relevant to my investigation of the serial killer.” Wednesday stated.
Ugh, how can a dead/missing person cause her so much grief, screw Rowan.
“Ignoring that guy, when has my information ever led you astray? Remember that time I told you Xavier was allergic to nuts and you tested it by sneaking some in his sandwich?” She segued from their topic.
A hint of a smile nearly made its way to the brunette’s lips, clearly thinking fondly of the poor boy being sent to the infirmary. Sacrifices had to be made and Xavier was great bait.
“Or that time I told you where principal Weems keeps her alcohol and you replaced it with cough syrup?” The older woman went on a rampage and started to punish students merely standing within her vicinity, but she had a girl to impress so it was definitely justified.
The maniacal smile that sent shivers down the student bodies filled the brunettes face, so effing cute!
She felt a tug on her hand, turning her attention away from Wednesday she saw Thing making signs. ‘Offer her new information to make people more miserable, she likes that a lot!’
Nodding her head she turned back to Wednesday and shuffled a little closer.
“I know the best way to get under Bianca’s skin.” Enid supplied, she wasn’t over the stunt the siren pulled yesterday. The nerve of her to try to out Enid as the stalker, so much for supporting rivalries and girl power.
“Do not involve me in whatever you clowns are doing. I have no interest in whatever freak courtship techniques the two of you have.” Bianca hissed, popping her head from behind them.
Wednesday shook her head, ignoring the siren. “I already get under her skin by merely existing. She’s not that hard to read.”
Bianca grumbled under her breath, cursing the two and slumped back to her seat.
There was a slight shifting going on in the seats in front of them, whoever was in front was also listening in, not that it mattered to her.
“I can tell you about the dirt I have on Yoko instead.” Enid said, eager to prove her status as the best gossip in Nevermore. Also fuck Yoko for her part in yesterday’s mess too.
“Or you could not.” Yoko said, shaking her head frantically, down the aisle from them.
Divina and Kent who were both sitting in front of them, shifted and sat on their knees to face them from their seats.
“Did I hear the sound of tea spilling dear sister?” Kent asked cheekily.
“I think I did dear brother. Now tell me Enid, does Yoko really sleep like a vampire with her arms crossed or from her feet hanging on the ceiling beams?” Divina asked. Yoko may be her girlfriend and Bianca her best friend but god does she love gossip and blackmail.
Enid made a face, these were not the people she planned on impressing. Glancing at her seatmate, she could see Wednesday was also paying attention, her head was tilted as if telling her to go ahead.
Well, she was never one to deny an audience.
…
As soon as the shuttle stopped in Jericho, the students were pouring out lest the blonde werewolf decide to target them for the next gossip quip. Each of them standing in line waiting to take their assignments from Principal Weems.
“After you Buffy the vampire slayer.” Bianca quipped at the broken looking Yoko. Who knew the actual vampire would be a fan of a vampire slayer?
“Shut the fuck up Arial the mermaid.” Yoko shot back, she didn’t know why she didn’t connect the dots of Bianca singing under the sea every time she jumped into the school lake.
Xavier stood behind them quietly, not willing to bring an attention to himself. Naturally things never go his way as Ajax showed up with a big eager grin over his face throwing an arm over his shoulder.
“Dude, you should have told me you liked to cosplay in tight clothes and stuff. We could dress up as Achilles and Patroclus! Just two dudes roaming the lands together in tight to almost no clothes. The ultimate bros.” He said.
Xavier decided to keep his head down and not respond, it seemed almost everything flew over the scatterbrained gorgons head.
“It’s like Enid can read minds and shit. She knew about where my weed stash is, Divina’s shrine dedicated to Taylor Swift, Kent’s shrine dedicated to Jisoo from Blackpink, Eugene dressing up as an actual bee to sing lullabies to the bees and so many other things too.” Ajax said in awe of the blonde werewolf’s knowledge.
“I wouldn’t consider any of that admirable.” Xavier responded dryly, watching the twins behind him argue very loudly.
“Don’t you tell me to calm down, we took an oath together! No shrines except for Tay Tay!” Divina yelled at Kent.
“Listen, I am a ride or die when it comes to her but Jisoo is also bae and you can’t deny that!” Kent argued.
Wednesday stood behind the twins with a firm line on her lips. The words coming out of their mouths made no sense, were they speaking in code?
Enid stood next to the shorter girl and looked at the chaos with mild interest, did she impress Wednesday or did she still have work to do? She peaked at Wednesday only to see glazed eyes looking ahead, was she bored or having a vision? Either way she needed to put a better shift.
The line was beginning to thin, students spreading as soon as they received their assignments. The two stood at the very end watching as they opened their assignments with either disappointment or glee.
Standing next to Wednesday, she took a glance at the glowering girl. Her eyes were set on their principal, probably trying to burn her with her gaze.
Principal Weems rolled her eyes and grumbled something that suspiciously sounded like. ‘These bloody brats’ before faking a smile at them.
“How nice of you two to join us after that wonderful show in the shuttle, do try to leave some less details next time okay?” She asked, her eye twitching.
“Is this because I told everyone I saw you take turns shape shifting into Wednesday’s mom or dad and kiss the mirror?” Enid asked.
Wednesday cocked her brows, she supposed she couldn’t fault Principal Weems’s method of trying to find her parents weak points by pretending to be them. Though her actions were odd.
The older woman coughed. “Enough of that children, here’s your assignments and scatter. Please.” She mumbled the last part.
Receiving their assignments, they both watched as the older woman began to walk away.
“Remember that you are due a performance at the unveiling of the statue.” She reminded Wednesday over her shoulder.
Wednesday’s response was a scowl.
Enid opened up her envelope and bit back a squeal, she was going to pilgrim world. She could ditch work and brag about more things to Wednesday!
Taking a peak at Wednesday’s assignment she saw Uriah’s heap. Now that won’t do.
She felt a tug on her wrist from the open bag and saw Thing sign. ‘Bully one of the kids for their assignment.’ Thing was so encouraging.
Taking the envelope from Wednesday’s hand she marched over to a lost but happy looking Eugene.
“Hey little guy, what you got there?” She asked.
Eugene froze as the blonde approached. “I- u-uh have my assignment.” He said nervously.
“Where are you going with that exactly?”
“Pilgrim world!” He said happily.
Enid shook her head. “No.”
Eugene tilted his head confused. “No?”
She took the assignment from his hand and replaced it with Wednesday’s. “No.” She confirmed, leaving the boy more confused than before and a new assignment.
…
Enid watched with amazement as Wednesday turned off a bunch of people from eating fudge by speaking a different language. Maybe she could brag about the languages she knew! Wait, she only knew English…
Enid groaned, ignoring the tugging from the bag. She had tried to brag about multiple things throughout her assignment but they never seemed to hold Wednesday’s attention. She kept trying to find ways to sneak into that stupid meeting hall.
Thing popped out of the bag and began to rapidly sign. ‘Stop wallowing in self-pity and do something!’
“Like what? I tried bragging about my childhood trauma but apparently she has more hidden ones than a comic book hero. I tried to brag about my mommy issues but Wednesday’s is somehow worse? I even picked a fight with those weird pilgrim boys but Wednesday was staring at that stupid decapitating thingy!” She complained.
‘Focus on what she wants, how can you brag and help her get what she wants at the same time?’ He signed, hinting at something.
She pursed her lips thinking hard, they were currently making fudge, Wednesday was trying to escape, mistress Arlene kept catching up to her… She had to distract their warden!
She knew exactly what to do but she had to brag about it first.
“Wednesday, I’m going to help you get us out of here. I just want to let you know so that I can have all the credit.” She whispered to the brunette.
Before Wednesday could comment, she walked over to a busy looking Bianca.
“Hey there, what ya doing?” She asked casually.
Bianca took a deep breath and shot her a look. “Making fudge, in the fudge factory.” She answered.
Enid nodded her head pretending to care. “You know, normally I don’t do this but I think I heard Yoko say something about you.”
Bianca rolled her eyes. “Enid, I know exactly what you’re doing. You’re trying to cause some drama so that you can sneak off with your oblivious little girlfr-”
“She said your rendition of under the sea wasn’t that good.”
Bianca dropped her equipment and stormed off with a murderous glint in her eyes.
Enid walked past a sulking Kent and pet his shoulders. “I think Blackpink is hot shit too.” Forgive me Taylor, but you have to take a back seat for love.
Kent’s head shot up. “You think so too!? I’m gonna go tell Divina off!” He ran over to his twin.
She quickly walked over to Wednesday and tugged on her hand. “Come on, we’re free.”
Wednesday could only watch in awe at the damage a few words had caused. Bianca and Yoko were fighting with pitchforks yelling about Disney princesses, knocking over a hot boiling pot of fudge. The twins were in an all-out war gathering students who supported their causes tossing anything that they could get their hands on, from fudge to rocks to lit lanterns
“You know Wednesday, I don’t mean to brag but I’m pretty good at instigating a riot.” She said, not a hint of humbleness to her tone.
She watched as mistress Arlene yelled at the students, dropping her fake accent in frustration. They had set the building on fire and what a sight it was.
…
The meeting hall was a bust.
Enid had monologued about how great she was at lock picking only to break it. Breaking and lock picking was basically the same skill she tried to justify but Wednesday just walked in and looked around, getting the book only to find out it was a fake. Wednesday looked so crushed. Last time she was ordering off Ebay.
Now she was following Wednesday to the only coffee shop in town, giving her ample time to think of something else to brag about.
Walking into the shop she saw Xavier maning the shop. Why would anyone want that?
Looking up to see who had walked in Xavier slammed his hand on the bell and walked away. “I’m going on break. You deal with them!”
Sure enough that normie brunette from the festival peaked his head from the door, his face lighting up at seeing Wednesday.
Oh hell no. Looks like she had to revise the first step of the book here.
“Hey Wednesday, came over to see me?” He asked, oh this fucker really thought he was smooth huh?
“No, tell me where the real meeting hall of this town is… And an iced quad.” Wednesday responded.
“It’s uh, somewhere in the woods. You know like in the north parts of town.” Wow, could he get anymore vague. “It’s really dangerous there you know, bears and stuff. I could go there with yo-” Before he could finish he was interrupted by a loud growl, his vision filled with a dangerous looking blonde with sharp teeth.
“Listen here Taylor, you better know your place. Because this is my turf you’re getting in.” She growled out.
Tyler shot back away from her and looked around nervously. Of course no one was in the coffee shop when an angry werewolf was about to rip his head off.
Oh god, was this the girl all the nevermore students were tweeting to stay clear of? He vaguely remembered a tweet along of the lines of. ‘If found near Wednesday, do not interact with either.’ Along with a series of pictures showing off the chaos that followed her.
“Hey now, no need for any aggressive behavior. We’re all friends here after all.” He said hoping to placate the feral looking werewolf. He gave Wednesday a look, hoping to convey a pleading message for support.
“No, we are not.” Wednesday said blankly, refusing to provide any kind of support. “I requested an iced quad, where is it?” She demanded.
Tyler was sweating bullets, with each passing second the blonde girl’s features were starting to shift more wolf like. Her claws scratching onto the table’s surface, a snout was starting to replace a human face with large teeth protruding out and electric blue eyes staring him dead on.
“Did I say friends? Definitely not friends, in fact I hardly know her. Stranger danger they say, anyway an iced quad and a leave me alone note.” He said scrambling to the coffee machine.
Unfortunately for Tyler, Xavier was hiding in the other room and listening to everything. He grabbed a small blackboard and scribbled on it quickly. Peeking out of the room he held up the sign frantically waving it around to catch Enid’s attention.
‘HE’S LYING! HE HAS A CRUSH ON HER’
All hell broke loose.
Enid vaulted over the counter and pounced on the scrambling barista, ignoring his pleas for mercy. Cups and plates were shattering behind them, falling from the shelves as she slammed him against the wall, cracks forming from the brunt of the force.
Wednesday blinked, wondering how an iced quad could escalate the situation so much. Did Enid have a vendetta against the drink? She did look like the kind of girl who would only drink sugared water so she might have perceived the order as an insult. But why attack Tyler? Was it because he was the supplier?
Her eyes widened as realization hit her. Werewolves were territorial creatures, based on that she could conclude that Enid saw the escorting of her going to the woods to be her duty. How fascinating. Her eyes wondered Enid’s half transformed form, once again she had transformed into her feral like state of a half beast hybrid. Was this something she could do at will? Or was there some kind of trigger for it?
To think such an untamed wild beast was not only a student but her roommate as well? It left shivers down her spine. She could feel those pesky spiders once again making their nest in her stomach. How disturbing.
She felt a tug on her wrist, looking down she saw Thing quickly climb his way to her shoulder. ‘We can go to the woods and do our search, I left a note for Enid to catch up after she’s done taking out the trash.’ He signed.
Wednesday tilted her head. “Are you confident? I enjoy the method of escaping during the bouts of confusion, what if Enid requires our assistance?”
She turned her attention to the front where Enid had climbed the counter jutting her elbow out and jumping off and slamming it down on Tyler.
‘Very confident.’ He signed.
She contemplated her options but agreed in the end. Though she did have one more thing to do.
Wednesday approached the counter ignoring Tyler’s screaming, hitting the bell once more. “I requested an iced quad and expect it when I return.” She said.
Before she left the counter she saw slices of clothes flying around and a tag with the name Tyler falling at her feet. Today was a chaotic day, truly her favorite kind.
…
Enid walked groggily around the forest, her clothes torn, exhaustion written all over her face and an iced quad in hand, trailing after Wednesday’s scent. Oh, that was something else she could brag about, her awesome tracking skills.
The weathervane was a success, she established her dominance and once again proved to Wednesday that she was capable of extreme fits of violence at a moment’s time. Thing had left a note at the counter that they had went ahead to chase the lead but assured her that Wednesday was very impressed with her actions. Score Enid.
After regaining her consciousness, Xavier showed up and promised to clean up after her and made her the drink. She was going to drop his points from her to kill list, currently sitting at the top of the leader board were Bianca and Yoko, those troublemakers will get their due.
The goofy grin was wiped off her face when felt the sudden shift of the winds, clouds were starting to form in the sky covering the normally bright day, sure enough rain was starting to fall at a rapid pace.
She picked up speed, heading towards the scent hoping to find her before she could lose it. The sound of splashing caught her attention, her enhanced hearing picking up the pattering of movement she associated with Thing.
Following the noise she found herself facing a rundown building with only the frame and some minor elements holding it up together. Her eyes zeroed in on an unconscious Wednesday on the floor with Thing trying to wake her up.
“Thing! What happened? Is she okay?” She dropped down and shifted Wednesday’s head to her lap. Her fingers held to her neck, checking for a pulse.
‘She had a vision and fainted. I’ve been trying to wake her up but she’s not responding.’ He signed, his hands tapping the cracked floorboards in worry.
Enid furrowed her brows, there had to be a way for her to wake Wednesday up. She brushed a finger across her face, the girl was starting to grow cold under her hands. There was a slight flush in her cheeks, a fade in color on her pouting lips and-
“Thing, I’m going to kiss her.” Enid announced.
‘Consent?’ He signed confused.
“Listen Thing, movies have taught me that asking for consent when making out with an unconscious and attractive woman can come after I saved her life. Maybe Wednesday needs CPR, can’t know until I try it.” Enid argued.
‘She’s not drowning.’ He argued.
“Well do you want her to? This is our chance to save her life.” Enid responded, goddamn it Thing, you’re supposed to be on my side.
He tapped his finger against the floorboard hesitantly before conceding and giving her a thumbs up.
“Great, now how’s my lips? Do I need to moisturize?”
‘Ehh, passable.’
“Breath? Do I need to take some mints?”
‘The worse the better.’
“Make up?”
‘She’s unconsciousness.’
“Perfect. She’ll never know what hit her.”
Enid leaned her head down towards Wednesday, her hands brushing off the wet bangs plastered to her face. Her eyes zoning down on her pouting lips, it’s now or later. Because let’s face it, she was going to get the girl in the end anyway.
She closed her eyes, cradling the back of Wednesday’s head and tilting her head towards her, if she focused hard enough she could hear the girl’s deadpan voice calling her name. She licked her lips imagining what those lips tasted like, why think when she can try? She can practically feel the proximity of their faces as she felt the heat of Wednesday’s breath hitting her back.
Enid furrowed her brows, why was she feel the heat of Wednesday’s breath? Her mouth was closed.
She opened her eyes and sure enough Wednesday’s mouth had shifted from her pouty one to a thin lipped line. Her eyes shifted upward to see Wednesday’s eyes open, staring at her.
“Enid, would you care to explain why your face is within strangling distance?”
Enid shifted her eyes to her lips before returning them to her eyes. “I was just uh… taking your temperature?” She asked.
“With your eyes closed and puckered lips?” She asked, not convinced.
“Yeah, just werewolf things.” She said, trying to shrug the whole thing off casually. Her mom always said if you want to make an excuse to a non-werewolf blame your heritage.
Wednesday lifted her brow, she was not convinced.
“Well, you look good if not a little dead from the rain which suits you perfectly. Now up and at em!” Enid quickly got up and pulled Wednesday up with her.
Wednesday pushed herself away from Enid, ignoring her ‘why did you wake up now’ and Thing’s celebratory dance announcing that she’s alive, she had to act while the vision was still fresh. She turned to the two people she had begrudgingly began to trust and hold a slight place in the bottomless pit of an abyss she called a heart.
“Enid, Thing, I require your assistance. This is important so I will need your full cooperation. We are going to burn Crackstones statue.”
Enid blinked, sharing a glance at Thing who shrugged. “Aight.”
…
“- All I wanted is some love and respect, but can I get it? No! Larissa Weems has to be the perfect example of the sophisticated principal that everyone looks up to. It’s like I’m not a person with feelings anymore.” Weems said, throwing herself back at the chair for the umpteenth time.
Dr. Kinbott nodded her head along sympathetically, it was only natural for people to feel unloved sometimes.
A ringtone rang through the room from Principal Weems’s pocket. The woman rolled her eyes before muttering an excuse me.
“Yes, Principal Weems speaking, how may I help you?”
Dr. Kinbott waited patiently as her client spoke on the phone.
“Leave me alone children, I don’t need to take care of you until the shuttle is due.”
That was a rather unsettling comment.
“Wednesday Addams did WHAT?”
Oh my, it would seem her other patient was in trouble.
“What do you mean she lit the statue on fire and is playing her cello? Did nobody stop her?”
Dr. Kinbott shifted from her seat and opened the blinds, sure enough the town square was in full panic mode. People running away from the fire except for a young girl playing the cello… And some blond girl sitting next to her.
She heard the phone click and a few curse words thrown around.
“Dr. Kinbott, I sincerely apologize for having to cut our appointment so short. Please schedule me in for an appointment every day until the end of the year. I may need it to avoid killing my student.” She said, leaving the room in a hurry finding no issue with her own comment.
At least the school paid well.
…
Enid sat on her bed, kicking her feet up waiting for Wednesday to finish up with their banshee principal, honestly couldn’t the two girls just have a little fun and burn a statue down? If anything they were doing the community a service.
Her head shot up to the door when she heard its telltale creak, announcing her roommates presence.
Wednesday walked in looking unbothered as usual, she probably ignored everything principal Weems said.
Enid coughed to get Wednesday’s attention. “So uh, we kind of blew up a statue back there. Wanna catch me up with some things? You know, I’m a very good listener.” Bragging was honestly becoming second nature to her.
Wednesday hummed as she sat on her bed, looking across to Enid. “Is that so? My experience today had me believe that you are more suited for conversation making rather than conversation ending.”
Enid clicked her tongue. “You just said that so you can rhyme.” Never admit to your fault, she was sure she read that in the book.
Wednesday shook her head and readied herself for bed. The blonde watched the girl do her routine patiently. Until she laid stiff on the bed facing the ceiling and closing the lights.
There was silence between them, lingering unspoken words at the tip of their tongues.
“Enid, what I am about to say will remain between you and me. I have… grown to trust you adequately enough to share what I observed today.” Wednesday said, her voice a whisper. Was she worried that she would be heard or careful not show her feelings?
For once that day, Enid’s mouth was closed as she listened to Wednesday talk about her vision, the feelings of claustrophobia, the pain and hate she felt during it all.
After Wednesday concluded her story, she bade her a horrible nightmare. Enid just hummed and fell asleep with a smile on her face.
It felt nice, to be trusted.
…
*KNOCK KNOCK*
The sound of the door woke Enid up.
She rubbed at her eyes before making her way to the door slowly, not wanting to wake Wednesday up.
Who in the world would knock on their door at this time of day? It was tomorrow!
Her eyes caught sight of an envelope at the crack of the door.
She picked it up and opened it up.
‘Dude! You’re trending everywhere! Twitter, Instagram, tiktok and youtube!’
-Ajax
What?
Enid took the paper back to her bed and scrolled through her phone. Sure enough the front page had a video of her beating up Tyler in the Weathervane. The video was titled. ‘Werewolf protecting her mate! Not click bait!'
Enid plopped down on her bed and blinked. Well, at least the world knew she had a mate

Chapter 8: Kidnap your mate
Enid had never been so cursed in her whole life as she was this moment. Saying it went viral would be a slight understatement seeing that the video had hit over fifty million views and still trending. Everyone in school had seen the video of her going feral in the coffee shop and took the hint that Wednesday was taken, which was fantastic. So why was she cursed?
Because everyone knew about the video except Wednesday. The girl avoided technology like the plague, in fact Wednesday might walk into a plague infested zone before she uses a phone.
She had seen Yoko run up to her yelling at her to watch the video, only for Wednesday to walk the other way and ignore her. Brutal, but honestly same.
Now that everyone knew about their official/unofficial status she can go back to getting Wednesday’s attention through the power of knowledge. Maybe if Wednesday could see the video she could of skipped a few steps but what to do? Half the fun was the hunt after all.
Enid plopped down on the chair in the library, the little corner she occupied was starting to feel like a cozy hideout now. Someone even left a cute little drawing of a giant wolf and dead bodies around it with a note on one of the shelves. ‘Beware of blonde werewolf’ Aww, they knew her so well.
She heard the familiar tapping of fingers and turned her attention to Thing.
“What’s the next step in the agenda?” She asked her accomplice.
Thing hurried over to her with the book and flipped the pages himself, guess even he was baffled by Wednesday’s lack of awareness of the situation.
Step Seven: Kidnap your mate
Enid blinked and looked down at the step again. Yeah, it was still there. She was in a world of trouble.
‘Reader, I understand how this step might seem odd and daunting, so allow me to clarify what it means.’
Enid let out a sigh of relief, it’s not what she thought it was.
‘It is exactly what you thought. Kidnap your mate, spend some time together, learn what makes them tick and just talk to each other. If your mate screams or complains too much, you can do the talking yourself and muffle them with tape, it’s a fool proof plan.’
“You think I can kidnap Wednesday?” She asked Thing, skeptical of the idea.
‘You have a death wish?’ He signed.
‘Your mate might be hesitant at first but they will eventually come around to the idea, even if it takes a few weeks or months, perseverance is key reader. A little Stockholm syndrome won’t hurt anyone. Kidnap your mate before someone else does, the world is full of creeps who might attempt it before you do.’
Enid closed the book and took a deep breath. “Thing, do you know where I can get kidnapping supplies?”
‘I know the perfect place.’ He signed.
…
Sherif Donovan grumbled to himself as he left the hospital, his son was bedridden in one of the rooms telling everyone who could hear him about the horrors of a werewolf that fought him.
The sheriff groaned when he saw his phone being spammed with emails and messages. He was getting sick of all the reports from the locals and Nevermore students about the mischievous werewolf that was attacking everyone. They claimed that a student named Enid Sinclair was causing mayhem everywhere she went, but he knew better. He saw all the images and videos that flew around when the incidents happened, it was all that cursed Addams girl. She was behind it all, every time something went down she was either in the forefront of it or in the background and now she was dragging other students to her mischievous schemes. That girl had no shame, as was expected from an Addams.
Walking by Uriah’s heap he saw movement inside that caught his attention, a familiar looking blonde girl in a Nevermore uniform was enthusiastically talking to the owner of the shop. He swore he had seen her somewhere before… That girl might be a potential witness to the whole Addams situation.
He opened the door, walked in and pretended to browse the shop, subtly listening in and waiting for his turn to intervene.
“-So you’re saying these ropes will be strong enough to hold her down?” The blonde girl asked. Her hands holding the rope tightly, an eager glint in her eyes.
‘Hold her down? Was she trying to catch some kind of animal?’ The sheriff thought to himself.
The shop owner hummed in affirmation. “Absolutely, I was able to tie down an entire pack of werewolf’s with these bad boys. Now what was next on your list sweetheart?”
“Chloroform, she’s kind of a cautious one so I need something strong, like really strong to knock her out.” The blonde said.
‘Knock her out? What animal needed chloroform? Don’t we use tranquilizers?’
“Have you thought about some good old fashioned tranquilizers? I have some strong enough to take down a gorilla.” The lady boasted.
“I already tried some, I put it in her tea and she just shrugged it off like it was a sweetener.” The blonde complained.
‘Wait what?’ He had a feeling he didn’t like where this was going.
“Oh honey.” The woman said sympathetically. “Here, have this. One whiff from a meter away can knock out a vampire for hours.”
“Sweet!” The blonde hollered. A hand, yes a hand popped out of her bag and gave her a high five.
“Now since you have the rope and the chloroform, I’m guessing you need the tape? Because I’ll have you know I just received this shipment of high quality tape that can silence a gaggle of baboons.” The lady whispered.
The hand was excitedly signing things that had the blonde girl nodding her head frantically. “What other things do you have that can help me with kidnapping my future girlfriend?”
Nope, he was not entertaining whatever this was. Sheriff Donovan walked right out the door pretending he heard nothing, damn Nevermore students.
…
Wednesday shifted in her spot on the chair, her hands were tied behind it and a sack over her head.
She was surrounded by darkness, it would honestly be a very comforting feeling if not for the fact that she could hear her supposed ‘kidnappers’ argue among themselves about what to do next. Did they seriously kidnap her without ironing out the details? Amateurs.
“How about you remove the sack over her head?” She heard a voice call out to her accomplices, was that Enid’s friend, the vampire?
“Absolutely not, that damn werewolf will smell me all over her and burn me alive.” Another voice responded, was that Bianca? “I vote Xavier remove the sack.” She added. That was definitely Bianca.
“Uhh, how about I not? Enid hates me more than anyone else in this room… Except for this dumbass.” He laughed to himself.
“Hey! You’re not supposed to make fun of injured people, not cool.” Wait, was that the barista boy? What was he doing here?
“Dudes, no need to fight among ourselves. We’re supposed to be bros till the end.” A voice popped up, must be the gorgon with how limited his vocabulary was.
“You know there’s girls here too right?” A dry voice responded. Sounds like the siren that’s always with the vampire.
“Dude is like so gender neutral bro!” The gorgon exclaimed. She heard footsteps approach her, a tug on the sack and light filled her vision.
She tilted her head and glanced around, she was in the nightshade hideout with the nightshades. Huh, déjà vu.
All the members were there, the same ones that kidnapped her the first time had kidnapped her again. What was their issue now? She still thought the group were idiots and didn’t want to join them. Did they have a clue to the serial killer case?
“See, there’s nothing to sweat. How you doing bro?” Ajax asked, a dumb looking smile on his face.
“I’m not your bro.” Wednesday said scowling, he was going to be the first to die here.
Turning her head away from the gorgon and shifting her attention towards the rest of the room. She could clearly see that she was back in the nightshade hideout, surrounded by the same group of brain dead students once again, oddly enough they were without their masks, guess even the realized that it was useless. The newest edition was that barista boy who could be seen through a screen, she could make out that he was wearing white and surrounded by it, was he in a hospital? Probably did something stupid and deserved it.
“Before I free myself from your admitably better rope tying skills and commit homicide, why have you decided to kidnap me again?” She asked, she was a little curious what went through their empty skulls.
“You guys heard that? My skills are getting better.” Divina bragged.
“Wait, what do you mean kidnap again? Is this a regular occurrence?” Tyler asked through the screen alarmed.
“Don’t worry about it.” Bianca responded dismissively. “Now, who would like to explain to our dear classmate why we’re here exactly?”
“Not it.” Xavier immediately responded.
“We’re bowing out.” Kent said, his sister nodding her head.
“I already tried that today but she ignored my phone and threatened to kill me so… not it.” Yoko replied.
“I mean the last time I spoke to her I ended up in the hospital so…” Tyler trailed off.
“I don’t even know why I’m here! I just like hanging out with you dudes.” Ajax said happily.
Bianca took a deep breath and mentally counted to three, go to your happy place the therapist said.
“Since everyone here is too scared to make a move and explain what is happening, it falls upon me to be the voice of reason.” She said.
The twins rolled their eyes, there goes Bianca complimenting herself unprompted.
“The voice of reason? Wasn’t she the one planned the interrogation in the courtyard the other day and the whole kidnapping scheme?” Xavier asked.
Yoko nodded her head, Bianca definitely did all that. Voice of reason her ass.
Wednesday arched her brow, she supposed there was some comfort in knowing that no matter what they did they were still idiots. Which probably means they don’t have information on the stalker… damn.
“Wednesday Addams, we are all gathered here today to discuss an important topic that has been plaguing us and no it is not an actual plague.”
Wednesday honest to god pouted at that, damn psychopath.
“This persistent issue that has changed the course of our lives permanently, leaving us with a sense of dread and fatigue like no other.”
Wednesday furrowed her brows, was Bianca doing a monologue? She thought only Viper does that... Or villains. She could see her classmate’s glazed eyes, probably mentally killing themselves. Shame that she couldn’t give them a hand.
“Has it ever occurred to you that the actions of your everyday life has created a domino effect that has spilled over to everyone within sight?”
What was Enid up to? She hadn’t seen her or Thing all day. Were the planning another manicure party? She wondered if they could give her some tips on making them sharp enough to kill herself.
“We live our lives looking behind our back in hopes of not being jumped by the very shadow that lurks behind you, one so large that its claws have extended past our school gates and to the far reaches of town.”
Oh? Now that sounds interesting, did they find any news of the monster? She did feel like that thing was always around and within reach as if it as right next to her but could never pinpoint the nuisance.
“Now Wednesday Addams, we have reached the point of no retu-”
“Oh my god, are you never going to finish?” Yoko yelled, interrupting Bianca.
The siren was taken aback, holding her hand to her chest with a confounded look on her face. “Excuse moi.”
Yoko ignored her and marched up to the tied up girl and leaned down. “Enid Sinclair.”
Wednesday blinked, she tilted her head in confusion. “Enid is my roommate, I am Wednesday Addams.” She said slowly, annunciating her words carefully and staring back at the exhausted vampire. How far gone was she not to know the difference?
“I know you’re not Enid!” She shouted. “She looks like she came out of a birthday party and you look like you walked right out of a funeral! I’m saying Enid is the problem, she has been a pain in all of our asses and she’s not stopping!”
Wednesday frowned at the vampire’s words, feeling a surge of protectiveness course through her for the werewolf. “Enid is not a problem, I would have expected those scathing words to come from Bianca, you have once again lowered your standards within my eyes, even lower than Xavier.”
“What do you mean, you expected those words from me?” Bianca asked, feeling insulted.
“How low is your opinion of me? I’m not even doing anything most of the time.” Xavier asked, all he did was mope, ask her deep and meaningful questions and run away on sight when Enid showed up.
“It wasn’t an insult! And how low do you think of me to score lower than Xavier?” Honestly, Yoko was kind of hurt by that. Lower than Xavier? Why don’t you just ask her to kill herself?
Wednesday narrowed her eyes. “Very low.”
“Dude, I love tier lists! Oh oh! What about me? What do you rate me as?” Ajax asked excited.
Wednesday thought hard about it, she remembered overhearing Enid chatting about something called a tier list where you can rate people based on how high or low you felt about them. She didn’t know the Gorgon boy all that much but compared to the other two…
“Mid-tier.” Wednesday answered. “Yes, he does score above you two.” She said, side eyeing the vampire and psychic.
“Yooo! That’s a passing grade!” He cheered.
“How is he higher than me?” Yoko and Xavier yelled.
“Guys, you have to stop arguing and get back to the topic in hand. We haven’t even confronted the obvious elephant in the room.” Tyler urged, trying to steer the conversation back on track.
Before they could reorganize themselves, Wednesday turned her head to the screen. “Silence dead last, nobody asked for your opinion.”
“I’m dead last?” He shouted from the screen.
“It’s not me!” Yoko cheered.
“Hey, what about us? What do you think of us?” The twins butted in taking over her vision.
“Also mid-tier.” She stated. They have yet to get in her way which made them neutral.
“You don’t even know them!” Xaier shouted.
“Of course I do, they are sirens and they are twins.” Wednesday said. Did everyone in this room lose their remaining functioning brain cells?
“Do you even know what their names are?” Yoko asked.
“Jealous that we rate higher than you?” Kent gloated.
“Enough, barista boy is right. Wednesday Addams is an agent of chaos, rating slightly higher than Enid somehow. Even after all the shit she’s pulled the past few days.” She mumbled the last part out.
Wednesday made eye contact with the haughty siren, she knew exactly how to make her crash. “Lower mid-tier.” She stated.
All hell broke loose.
The twins and Ajax had to physically restrain Bianca from strangling Wednesday who had then turned her anger on them. “How do you three clowns get a higher rating!?”
Yoko, Xavier and Tyler were arguing how close their ratings were to one another.
Chaos all around and the screams of school children invaded the room. Wednesday closed her eyes and lit a small smile slip out, she could sleep to this.
…
“Thing, back me up here. I’m not losing my mind right? Wednesday should be somewhere in the school grounds right?” Enid asked, growing tired of interrogating passerby students. It didn’t help that most of them run on sight. The cowards.
She and Thing had walked into the school grounds with a bag full of supplies to kidnap an entire school population and headed towards their room first but to no one’s surprise Wednesday was nowhere to be found, probably looking for that monster in the woods somewhere.
What if something happened to Wednesday while she wasn’t there? What if someone tried to hurt her or god forbid kidnap her first?
Enid swore if a single hair was slightly tussled on her precious mates head or found her in a place she couldn’t reach her quick enough she was going to raise hell.
‘The student here fear everything, it’s like they’ve never seen a severed hand going on a nightly stroll. I’m surprised they survived for so long.’ He signed.
Ignoring the fact that Enid had caused havoc everywhere she went, sent a few students to the hospital here and there, disrupted the peace of the quad for everyone, most people didn’t want to stand in the way of a raging werewolf mid courting phase and made themselves scarce.
“Know of any other way I can find her? I even asked Eugene.” asked wasn’t exactly the word that Thing would use, seeing as she had basically water boarded the poor boy in the shed. God he missed those fun days in the Addams manor, thankfully Enid was there to help fill the gap.
‘Unfortunately she keeps finding the tracker I place on her, she says I’m too naïve if I think I can catch up with her scheming.’
Enid couldn’t help but let out a fond smile. Wednesday was so cute with her evil scheming and defensive maneuvers, one time she almost got stabbed during her paranoid ranting about being stalked. The memories they made together…
She pulled up her phone and opened her ‘Stalking my mate’ app, she got a free subscription from the back of the books code. The last update where the tracker was last seen was apparently their room and going crazy. Must have broken this version, she really needed to find smaller and more durable ones that were less noticeable.
‘Let’s go to our room again and look for clues to her whereabouts. We must have missed something in our first search.’ Thing signed.
The two went on with their journey of tracking down the goth, walking by an angry looking Sherif marching his way to the principal’s office.
“Principal Weems! I demand the apprehension of one Wednesday Addams immediately!” He yelled.
The imposing figure of Larissa Weems startled away from her desk, a few objects spilling over. “Have you gone mad, barging into the room without even a knock? Did you leave your manners back in that backwards town of yours?”
The Sherif ignored her words and walked closer. “What I did bring back with me is far more important, news that I have personally bore witness too in a store! I know she’s involved in it somehow and has dragged an innocent student along with her. My town is in seri-”
*SQUISH*
Sherif Donovan blinked, he took a step back and picked up the object. “Sorry about that, here’s your toy?” He held it up and inspected it closely. Was that- was that Gomez Addams?
Principal Weems vaulted over the table and tore the toy from his hands. “That will be all for today Sherif, be sure to take an appointment next time you come over. Better yet, don’t come over ever.” She said, standing tall and holding the toy behind her back.
He peered behind her and- “Is that a toy version of Morticia Frump and yourself?” He asked completely flabbergasted.
“OUT NOW!”
…
“Now without further ado and unnecessary interruptions, we will resume our intended meeting.” A ruffled looking Bianca announced.
The nightshades and Tyler for some reason all looked haggard, after the little discussion on ranking or ratings, Wednesday wasn’t really paying that much attention. Having zoned out somewhere between all the yelling and fighting.
“Our lives have permanently changed in the worst way possible, I always have to look behind my back every time I walk.” Bianca explained. “Wednesday Addams, I hate that I have to say this and believe me I have to swallow a lot of pride to say this but you are the only one who can do this, you are our only hope.” She said, pleading.
Honestly Wednesday was kind of tempted to reject it out of spite, however she was a logical being and would therefor entertain their comments for now.
“Enid Sinclair, you have to stop her.”
Wednesday almost rolled her eyes all the way to the back of her skull, this again?
“Enid is harmless, she is the personification of a sunray. I see no reason why anyone would possibly fear her.”
“Just to clarify, when you say sunray you mean someone who will obliterate everything in their path right?” Xavier asked.
“Leaving nothing its wake except for the broken souls who were unfortunate enough to exist within the same region as her, that kind of sunray?” Yoko asked for clarification.
Wednesday wished, Enid didn’t have the capabilities of pulling that off, sure she could turn into a fascinating feral state of a werewolf, incite a riot, reliably resourceful, unyielding determination, dangerously attentive, has blackmail on everyone and had seen her attempt to murder Tyler but those were exceptions. Enid was a good apple.
“Enid is Enid, she is a helpful student and determined to do what she perceives is right. I believe if you approached her with your concerns, she will listen with an open mind.” Wednesday said, in what she considered a concise and easy to follow logic.
“Are we really talking about the same Enid? Because the Enid I know has been attempting to assassinate me for a while now.” Yoko said skeptically.
“You are merely paranoid.” Wednesday reasoned, who would take effort out of their day to assassinate her of all people.
“She has been a menace these past few days, over half the school population fear her.” Bianca explained.
“The students are idiots.” Wednesday responded, she didn’t have to clarify on that did she?
“She has been actively trying to kill me, you were there half the time.” Xavier insisted.
“Can you blame her?” She asked. Surely not, she would have tried it herself but she was far too busy these days.
“Aren’t we getting a little off topic?” Kent asked.
Divina rolled her eyes. “Like, yeah. I thought this was a meeting about telling Wednesday that her girlfriend is causing everyone trouble.”
Wednesday quirked her brows. “What girlfriend?”
There was a pause in the room, as everyone’s attention was back on her, staring at her like she grew a second head.
“What do you mean what girlfriend?” Yoko asked in disbelief.
“I was unaware vampires suffered from deafness so early in their lives.” Wednesday said dryly.
“You and Enid, who else would be crazy enough to date you?” Divina asked.
Wednesday stopped herself from thanking the siren for the compliment, what did she mean by her and Enid? Was there something going on? She had taken note of the blond werewolf’s recent actions had deviated from their normal course. The normally excitable girl has started to pay more attention to her and provide assistance unprompted, going out of her way to protect her and compliment her. But those were things that friends did for each other all the time right? She tried to ignore the persistent and annoying little spiders that kept trying to crawl out of her whenever she thought of the wolf.
Bianca narrowed her eyes at the goth, sizing her up. Was she playing dumb or… she heard a light bulb in her head as realization hit her like a truck. “Dear god, have you not realized it yet?”
Wednesday just stared back at her.
“Wednesday Addams, you are an absolute brain dead human being you know that? Have ou been ignoring all the notes we have been sending you from the very beginning? Enid Sinclair is in love with y-”
The friction of stones created a loud screech, a sound that alarmed everyone they are no longer alone. The nightshades froze, listening intently for any other sound.
“I suppose we have an uninvited guest?” Wednesday asked, a little curious about who had interrupted them. What was Bianca going to say? Enid was in love with something?
The familiar skittering of fingers had made its way downstairs, Thing took a look around the room before tapping his fingers.
“Why hello there Thing, I see that you have come to rescue me from my evil captors. I assume you are not alone in this endeavor?” Wednesday asked, curious how Thing had made it here.
“Thing, was that Wednesday? Did she say evil captors? As in multiple someone’s kidnapped her?” Enid’s voice rang through the room, anger growing in her voice with each passing word.
Thing made a sign that they could only assume was confirmation as animalistic growling was heard from the top of the stairs and heavy footsteps started to descend. A very angry werewolf was coming downstairs to greet them and there was no escape.
The hand turned to them and signed. ‘Rest in Peace.’
…
“-Then Thing and I had concluded after our investigation that you were kidnapped by the evil doers of the nightshade society! So we came marching in valiantly to save you. Err not that you needed saving because you’re you and you probably had a hundred backup plans but you know, power in numbers or whatever that terms was.” Enid said with a bashful look.
If she couldn’t get away with kidnapping the girl she could at least get away with pretending to be the hero. Some points are better than no points, at least she thinks that’s what the book says. Her mom did say she could embellish in some details.
Wednesday hummed from the bathroom, the smaller girl chose to take a bath to ‘remove the filth of bad kidnapping’ while keeping the door open so that the blond could regale her all the details.
“That does sound fascinating, though I question why you had so much rope and tape on your person when you had come down there.” Wednesday said, curious about it.
Enid gulped and looked to Thing. After fighting with the nightshades and sending death threats to Tyler, she had roped the students up together and left them down there to free themselves. Tyler would get his due, the little conniving shit.
“Uhh… Don’t worry about it.” Enid said, unable to come up with an excuse.
She heard the water stop as shuffling noises were made, soon enough Wednesday had come out of the shower covered in a black bathrobe.
“Then I will trust your judgment, know that I do not say that lightly Enid.” Wednesday said, changing behind a partition.
Enid felt a grin make its way to her face. The previous day Wednesday had said that offhandedly but to outright say it and to dismiss Enid’s clear lame attempt to divert from her kidnapping attempt. Fucking score.
“So, why did they kidnap you? Any specific reason?” She asked, fishing for information. She swore if they tried to take a chapter out of her book they’ll wish the infirmary was their home.
“Inconclusive, there were many discussions that have popped up. Some in regard to my sanity, some about standards and even your name has been mentioned, something about your increase in violent behavior.” She said offhandedly.
Enid let out a sigh of relief, none of them were making a move on her and they knew not to miss with her mate. She still had to send a message though, can’t have their minds straying too far.
She heard footsteps approaching her and looked up to see Wednesday standing in front of her, her normally pale cheeks were flushed with color, was she taking a shower in scalding hot water?
“Enid, I understand there are matters that you are facing that has changed the dynamic of our relationship. Many of the students are making an observation that I cannot comprehend… I have made some observations as well, some that I have yet to conclude are positive or negative.” She said, her eyes focused on Enid.
The blonde said nothing, her mind branching into a thousand scenarios. Was Wednesday on to her? As in her feelings or her plans? Does she know that Thing is involved? Can she get away with throwing him under the bus?
“What I am attempting to convey is that if you require anything from me, I am available.” Wednesday said.
The two held their breaths and looked deep into the others eyes. Sometimes words weren’t necessary right?
“I do have something I want to tell you Wednesday.” Enid said, her heart beating wildly. “Something that will change everything that has happened and will happen between us for the rest of our lives. But I don’t think I’m ready just yet.” She said, pleading with the brunette to be patient with her.
Wednesday stood still for a while before nodding her head. “Then I shall wait.”
No words were shared as Wednesday returned to her bed, laying down and slowly sleeping off the day’s adventure. Who knew being kidnapped by idiots can be so tiring?
Enid laid silent, reveling in the moment. She may not have confessed just yet but she could tell the time will come very soon and all she could hope for was the best.
… There was still the matter of a little shit that wasn’t in the nightshade room though.
She felt a tug on her arm as Thing came to view. ‘I still have some extra rope and tape.’
“Thing, have you seen the godfather?”
…
*KNOCK KNOCK*
Wednesday lifted herself from the bed and made her way to the door. Sure enough there was a not under it. Wait, that wasn’t a note… Was that a picture?
Taking a close look at it she could make out the barista boy ‘Taylor she thinks his name was’ tied up with a heavy looking rope, tape all over his mouth and wide eyed. Staring at what looked like a decapitated pig head on his hospital bed. Someone made some enemies huh.
She turned the picture around and there was a scribble on it.
‘ADDAMS! I know this was you! Just wait until I gather the evidence! You and your family will never see the light of day!
-Sheriff Donovan
Wednesday felt a slight tug on her lips. She had no idea what the content of the photo was but how she missed getting hate mail.
