Massu is a little disoriented when he wakes up alone in his bed. He doesn't feel Shige's hand on his arm anymore and Koyama's not asleep in their embrace – Koyama’s place is in the middle because he's the only one who can bear the combined heat of two human bodies, also he goes to bed at a decent hour, making it easy for the night owls to snuggle with him afterwards.
Massu waits for his eyes to get used to the darkness, but he hears voices coming from the living room. Maybe Koyama woke up in the middle of the night and went to get a glass of water before Shige finished writing. He’s about to turn over and go back to sleep when Shige raises his voice, so he can clearly hear the rest of the conversation.
“Hush now or you'll wake him up!”
“Don't hush me!”
A smile curls Massu's lips. In the end, he can't resist surprising his boyfriends. He gets up and tiptoes out of the bedroom.
What awaits him leaves him speechless: Koyama and Shige, wearing elf costumes, arguing over a basket of gifts. The two of them freeze when they notice his presence. A moment passes in silence.
“Is it a sex thing?” Massu jokes but neither Koyama nor Shige react.
They keep glancing at each other until Koyama takes a few steps towards him. Massu realized that his fist is closed but he can't see what's inside even when Koyama raises his hand to his chin. He seems tense but he does his best to smile calmly.
“One, two, three... Sleep well angel,” Koyama whispers before he blows on the contents of his open hand, a golden dust that reaches Massu's face.
Massu frowns and staggers, but his boyfriends come to support him in no time. Their worried looks are the last thing he sees before falling asleep abruptly.
Except he wakes up instead. Shige is lying next to him, stifling a yawn as he stretches with the cutest hmm. Massu feels the mattress sagging behind him; Koyama sits on the edge of the bed and caresses his bare shoulder.
“Merry Christmas,” Koyama says softly.
Massu stretches as well. He takes one minute to reflect on the snippets of the dream that woke him up.
“I had the weirdest dream…” He warns. “I think you two were Santa’s elves or something.”
“Oh my god, what?! That's so weird!” Koyama replies quickly with a loud giggle.
Shige laughs nervously and reaches for the pointed green hat that Koyama is wearing before throwing it behind his back. Massu raises his eyebrows but Koyama doesn't let him time to think and presses his lips against his. Massu closes his eyes.
“You brushed your teeth,” He points out.
“Of course. I'm not a monster.”
“I'll take a shower,” Shige indicates with a yawn.
“I'll make breakfast, then,” Koyama adds joyfully.
“Okay, I'll make breakfast,” Shige corrects and Koyama pretends to be offended.
Massu stops them before they leave the bedroom.
“Hey.”
Two pairs of eyes turn to him. He feels a bit uneasy but he knows deep down that he shouldn't.
“Will you tell me what happened? Maybe not now but... someday?”
“I promise,” They answer with one voice and Massu smiles in return.
He trusts them to surprise him.
