Rolling Girl

Summary:

(Y/N) Is a rolling girl...

Depression and anxiety is a tricky thing to deal with, especially when working on a case as hard as the Kira case alongside the world's greatest detective.

Chapter Text

"Lonely girl is dreaming all the day

Of things she knows are far away

Screaming out all the voices in her head

Are now eating away Hear them eating away"

(Y/N) had been dealing with depression for a long time. Even before the Kira case had started you had been dealing with it and the constant death seeming to follow you in the past didn't help. Death was everywhere on the news, everywhere at work, and everywhere in your life.

Your partner had been killed. They were wrongly convicted of a murder they didn't commit and Kira deemed them as guilty, killing them with a heart attack.

Your parents were in a car crash last week. Dead on the scene.

Your coworkers you had interacted with in the past had all died due to their stance against Kira.

Kira.

He had taken everything from you. The only thing you had left was catching whoever he was. You spent all of your free time working on the case as being a detective was your job. Soichiro Yagami was your supervisor and often found you working overtime in the precinct pouring yourself into your work. It just didn't make sense. These killings had no pattern other than being criminals and heart attacks. Unless...

You had cracked a small part of it. It had to be a student! There was no other way.

"Chief! I think I figured something out!" You called across the precinct, getting out of your chair from your cross-legged position and doing a small stretch before rushing over to his office only to find it was empty.

Well, it was 3am after all you couldn't be surprised that a family man like him was home already even with a case as sensational as this. A small computer lit up across the room though, the letter L showing up in contrast against the ivory screen.

"What did you find out?" A digital voice asked with what you thought to be curiosity.

Ah, of course L was awake. You had only ever interacted with him through the barrier of a screen. You didn't know anything about him other than what everybody else had known.

Well, you figured it was a he and that he was around your age through some deduction stills and the profile he had by what cases intrigued him, but you were sure that anybody could figure that much out with a little basic reasoning.

"It has to be a student, L. There's no way that a working man could do this much damage in the amount of time he's had." You concluded. "Even with whatever power he has there's no logical way that you could get this amount of people killed no matter how hard you tried unless you had a good amount of free time like a student."

It was silent for a moment and you felt a little self conscious. Had you said something out of the realm of possibility? People often tended to scoff at your ideas, finding them too fantastical and based out of reality.

"Interesting. So you also think it's a male on top of that?" The monotone sounding artificial voice asked.

"Of course. It matches the profile that I've drawn up of Kira." Proud and confident was what you hoped you sounded, but in reality it was probably a stuttering mess.

"Hmm... I see. Thank you detective (L/N). Your input is greatly appreciated."

On the other end of the screen, L looked on the monitor with curiosity gleaming in his eyes. Someone else had caught on as well to his theory of Kira being a male student. How interesting.

"Watari. I'd like the files on (Y/N) (L/N) as soon as possible." He said suddenly, not surprised when he almost instantly had a copy of your information in his hands and pulled up on his screen.

How interesting. It was a wonder you were still alive. Diagnosed depression from the loss of everyone around you, history of depression and anxiety, and family history of mental illnesses such as bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, and schizophrenia. A lot of people would have given up, but you were a determined one he deduced. He wanted you on his team at once. Someone who could come up with the same theories as him and with that kind of drive would prove to be a valuable asset to him in this case. It wasn't everyday you would find someone as mentally strong enough for the tasks he had in mind.

"May I ask, why the sudden interest in Miss (L/N), L?" Watari asked from in the doorway of the dark room. Only the monitor lit up L's face, and he glanced back to him.

"I'd like her to be put on the list for potential people for the team." He said after a while of thinking, his thumb resting on his bottom lip in thought.
