Chapter 1: Prologue - New and Final Life

Chapter Text

It was past midnight on the clock.

Henithuse's estate had been in childbirth since midday. The unexpected delivery of the countess had caused anxiety in everyone's hearts. After all, the due date in no way coincided with the appointed date. The Count, too, was in disarray. Fear for the life of his beloved wife as well as his first born child was raging in his heart.

The doctors had informed them that the child would not be born until the end of the first month of summer, but not a month earlier. Every cry of his wife, made Deruth heart shudder with his own helplessness. Even the best doctors, priests from the temple, did not guarantee the lives of his family.

But suddenly, there was a suffocating silence, everything and everyone seemed to stand still in the manor. It was frightening to breathe, Deruth couldn't bear the stifling silence any longer and burst into his wife's chambers. She lay with a worried face while the priests and doctors crowded over the baby.

The child was not breathing. No one heard the cry, the faces of the priests showed the horror of the responsibility. They had done everything in their power to keep the first-born of the family alive, but... The Earl and Countess were frozen in suspense, every second of it made the blood run cold in their veins.

They were afraid.

They were afraid that their child would go to the realm of eternal rest without knowing a single moment of life. But the word of the parents reached the gods, the child's silent cry echoed through the Countess's chambers. The child lives...

The father of Eternal Rest took pity on the parents...

Relief and happiness could be seen on the faces of everyone in the room. Immediately, the child was handed over to the Countess. She tenderly cradled the child in her arms, the woman did not even notice the tears of joy rolling down her cheeks. The Count immediately approached his wife, crouching on the edge of the bed.

-The baby looks so much like you... - he said quietly, afraid of disturbing the peace of the newborn. Even through the closed diaper a bundle of scarlet hair was visible on the baby's head, but with one difference. A speck of silver was present in the hair. When the infant opened its eyes, they saw its blood brown eyes.

In the same blood brown eyes of the Countess, there was a faint golden glow surrounding the iris. She saw what was hidden from other people's eyes. The woman saw the rings of her child's life. The impossibility of counting the number of years he had lived was fascinating, but also frightening. Their son is immortal...

-Athanasius, our son will be called Athanasius Henituse...
