It wasn’t as if it was supposed to be a secret or a surprise. He wasn’t trying to hide it. It just… slipped his mind.
Which explained why Christopher was giving Buck a withering glare from across the living room.
Apparently, Chris had been doing a project at school that required him to research an apartment or house to either purchase or rent online within set premaniters. He’d followed the guidance and, to his utter surprise, found Buck’s loft for sale, having been listed only a few days prior.
And no one had remembered to let Chris know about it.
While Christopher had been doing much better with the thought of his father being a firefighter and being in danger, he also had been made very aware that if something happened, Buck was the person he would be the next person in line to take him in (if not Buck, then the Wilsons, then Bobby and Athena). If Buck was planning on leaving and not saying everything, that meant that the carefully discussed plan was being thrown into chaos, something that Chris didn’t do well with.
Cue the silent treatment.
Buck had just arrived at the Diaz house with a few boxes in his jeep and a duffle bag of clothes, only to be met with an icy glare. It was then and only then that Buck realized the one important detail to this whole idea.
"Chris, I-”
“If you’re moving, you-”
They both talked over each other, words getting lost. The teen glanced away, letting Buck finish.
“I’m not going anywhere but here. I promise.”
Christopher blinked, anger immediately broken. He could read between the lines, he knew what Buck was saying.
Buck was selling the loft, yes, because Buck was moving in. He wasn’t losing Buck after all.
