Work Text:

Liu Qianqiao, also known as Beauty Ghost, sits for a portrait against a dark, almost black background. A bright light illuminates her from the left as she smiles softly at the viewer. The left side of her face and clothing bathed in light shows vibrant reds and deep blacks against her pale skin and rosy lips. A pale green paper parasol is held in her hand and sits against her shoulder. An ink painting of what can be assumed is her own portrait under a bare-branched tree peaks at the viewer from beyond her shoulder on the viewer's left, her painted hands delicately holding a brush and mask. Her right side, in stark contrast, is hidden in deep purple shadows with an eerie green glow. Her cheek in shadow is marred by intricate scarring as she sneers, her eye narrows. At the far, bottom-right of the portrait, in hazy purple shadow, she holds a glinting dagger against her red robe, her hand almost swallowed by her sleeve.
