It's 4 in the morning, Emu and Nene are fast asleep. It's the weekend, so luckily they get to sleep in for the night. Well, that's what Emu thought before suddenly craving... cereal? She picked up her phone, the bright screen showing her the time. Her eyes widened at how late it is, then pondered... "Why on earth would I want cereal so late at night?" She didn't really think about it, mainly since she does have a pretty big appetite. As Emu almost went out of bed, she realized something.
"Waiiit a minute... Since it's really late at night, it's reaaally dark!! I'm really craving cereal though... It's so scary when it's dark though!!! Oh well, sometimes I gotta be brave...!" Emu thought.
"But... Nene-chan is here... Maybe if I'll wake her up, she'll come with me downstairs! Then maybe... we could eat cereal together! Yes, perfect idea!!" The pinklette excitedly thought.
So Emu gently shook Nene awake, calling her name as softly as she could. Nene then fluttered her eyes open, and tiredly yawned. She first saw her girlfriend Emu, then confusedly tilted her head.
"Emu...? Why are you up? And... what time is it-?"
"It's 4 in the morning, and I want cereal!" Emu's eyes shone.
Nene looked at Emu, completely bewildered. This made her wonder... How did she fall in love with a girl like this...? Then she remembered Emu's other features and personality traits, already blushing. God... Emu truly is something else.
"Out of all the reasons you woke me up... cereal? You want cereal at 4 in the morning-???" Nene spoke, sounding so done. (still loves Emu though)
"Mhm!"
"And you're not going alone because...?" Nene questioned, slightly already knowing the answer, happy to accompany Emu.
"Because it's all dark and scary and I don't wanna go alone!! It's also lonely to eat cereal all by myself :("
Nene could swear that her heart was about to explode. She let out a sigh, and continued speaking to Emu.
"And I'll guess... You want me to go with you, don't you?" Nene giggled.
"Yes! Please do!!" Emu pleaded.
"Hehe, alright. I'll go with you to eat cereal. But we have to be as quiet as possible okay? We wouldn't want to wake your family up..."
"YAYYYYYYY!! I love you Nene-chan!!" Emu hugged Nene tightly.
Nene returned the hug, softly smiling at Emu's affection. "I love you too Emu... Now, let's go eat cereal."
"Okayyy!"
The two girls make their way out of bed, tiptoed downstairs, and made their way into Emu's kitchen.
"Alright Emu, what cereal would you like?"
"Hmmm... Lucky charms!!"
So then Nene went to take a look in the pantry, but it was dark as hell, therefore Nene couldn't see anything.
"Emu, do you have a flashlight? I can't see anything at all..."
"Oh! I have my phone! Will that work?"
"Yeah that'll work, thank you." Nene thanked Emu, turning the phone flashlight on.
Nene looked in the pantry, yet only saw whole wheat cereals. She was not expecting that... Nene thought there would be at least some decent cereal in there, but she supposes not. She scouts the pantry for any sweet sugary cereal, yet to no avail. She sighs, turning back to Emu.
"Sorry Emu... There are only whole wheat cereals in here."
"Whole wheat?! Aww... I guess I ate all of the sweet ones!"
"Not surprised..." Nene thought. Emu does have a sweet tooth after all.
"Well what are we supposed to do now? You wanna eat whole wheat cereal-???"
Emu pondered in thought, leaving Nene's question unanswered. Then... Emu had a crazy idea. The chances of Nene saying no was high, but it's very easy to succumb Nene into Emu's ideas.
"...Emu?" Nene quietly called out, concerned that Emu didn't answer.
"Say Nene..." Emu turned away.
"Hm? Yes-?"
"How about we go shopping for cereal? It'll be fun!" Emu excitedly stated, with no hesitation found in her voice whatsoever.
Nene slowly turned her head to Emu's direction, seeing the brightest and most mischievous grin she ever saw. She was flabbergasted, her jaw dropping to the floor. Shopping for cereal-? At 4 AM?! There was no way Emu was being serious... right...?
"...Y-you're joking, right Emu?" Nene worriedly asked.
Emu just stood there facing Nene, as her grin grew wider and wider, quiet giggles escaping her mouth. Nene couldn't believe it. No. No, she refused to do this. She had so many questions too... Like, "Is Emu that desperate for cereal? "Isn't it dangerous to go out at night?" "What if someone kidnaps the both of us?!" Or "Are any stores even open this late??". It was impossible to resist Emu's pleas (for Nene anyway), she always had a soft spot for Emu. This time though, it's a straight up no.
"No way I'm doing that! That's too dangerous!" Nene whispered, raising her voice a little.
"It'll be fine!! There's a gas station near here, and it's open 24-7! Pleaaaaaase?" Emu pleaded.
"No. I won't do it." Nene firmly said.
"Please Nene-chaaaan? Just this once!"
"Absolutely not. You can go by yourself."
"B-but it's so scary to go alone! Please come with me, please...?" Emu frowned, her face literally looking like the :( emoticon.
"R-resist it Nene... Do NOT give in..." Nene reminded herself.
"No. That's final." A wave of guilt washes over Nene after refusing, but she has to get over Emu's pleas sometimes.
"Oh... okay-! Let's just... go back to sleep then..."
After Emu spoke, she sadly moped past Nene, and Nene could swear that she saw Emu on the verge of tears. Is cereal really that important??? This is Emu after all, and Emu does love food... Emu also loves Nene, and would do anything for her.
...
"...Goddamn it Emu-!" Nene yelled in her mind.
As Emu goes up the stairs...
"Emu- wait..." Nene speed walked, softly grabbing Emu's arm.
"...Hm? Yes Nene-chan?" Emu sadly looked over to Nene, confused.
"We'll... w-we'll go shopping for cereal."
Right after that statement, Emu's eyes lit up.
"R-really?! You're actually gonna do it with me?!" Emu whispered loudly, trying her absolute best not to scream out of excitement.
"Y-yeah... But let's make this quick, okay-?"
"Yaaaaaaaaaay!! I love you Nene-chan!!" The girl whispered loudly once again, giving Nene a kiss on the cheek.
"I-... I love you too Emu..." Nene shyly mumbled. "Let's get ready first, it's not ideal to go out in our PJ's, is it?"
"Hehe, yep! Let's get ready!"
They both quietly went upstairs, and went to change their clothes. They were now in a much better outfit for going out... if just wearing a sweater over your PJ's count as a "better" outfit. Honestly, they were both too lazy to find a pair of pants, it was 4 AM after all.
"Now, let's go to that gas station you were talking about."
"Okay!!"
Emu opened the door to her house, and then they both exited the Otori household.
"So... Where exactly is this gas station-?"
"It should be straight away from here, just follow me Nene-chan!"
"Alright, hopefully we don't get lost..."
"Don't worry about it! I've been here many times with my big sister!"
"If you say so..."
So, Nene trusts her girlfriend, and follows Emu. 5 to 10 minutes later, they made it to the gas station. Nene was certainly surprised when she saw a cashier there, but Emu did mention it was open 24-7. The two girls then headed inside, greeted with the sound of a bell that was attached to the wall above the entrance door.
"Alright... Let's find those lucky charms, and head home."
"Got it!"
The two teens then made their way to the cereal isle, with many different brands and kinds being seen on the shelves. There were wheat, rice, oats, corn, etc! A certain box caught their eye though. It had a certain leprechaun printed on the front cover of the cereal box, wearing a smile on his face. That's right, they found the sweet, sugary cereal, Lucky Charms. Magically delicious as they say.
"Look Nene-chan! We found it!!"
"Mhm! We found the cereal you wanted! Now, we pay for it. You brought money right?"
"Yep!"
"Good... Let's go pay then."
"Okaaay!" Emu slightly raised her voice volume, clearly excited about the cereal.
Emu grabs the cereal off the shelf, smiling widely. They then both walk to the cashier, paying for the cereal.
"Your total is $4.59." The cashier said in a tired tone, clearly hating his job.
"Here you go!" Emu gave the cashier the money.
"Oh yeah, here's an extra 3 dollars, have a nice night sir!" She also decided to tip the cashier, like the usual kind girl she is. Emu is rich after all!
"Ah, thank you miss!" Said cashier smiled, satisfied with the extra money he received.
"Oh Emu... how kind of you." Nene giggled in her thoughts, adoring Emu's generous deed.
After that, they walked out of the store, and began making their way home to Emu's house. It was now 4:45, a quarter before 5 AM. Surprisingly enough, Nene was actually enjoying this... Perhaps she wanted to spend time with Emu like this, but she'll never admit it of course.
10 minutes later, they arrive back at Emu's house, and went inside. Time for the moment Emu has been waiting for... cereal! She speed-walked to the counter, opening the cereal box. Nene went to the dishwasher, and grabbed 2 bowls for her and Emu. A teamwork effort later, 2 cereal bowls were made! They both sat down next to each other, and began to peacefully eat their sugary (mostly) breakfast meal.
"Mmm! Hehe, this tastes so good!!!"
"Does it really? It's just cereal..."
"Hmm... Maybe it's because I'm eating it with my beloved Nene-chan!!" Emu smiled warmly at Nene, showing her love.
Nene giggles lightly, blushing at Emu's kind remark. Of course she'd say something like that, that's Emu for you. Now that Nene thought about it, the cereal does taste sweeter than usual... perhaps Emu was right. Eating with the people you love does make the food taste much better than usual. Later on, they were both finished, both of their stomachs filled.
"Let's go upstairs now, it's about..." Nene paused, looking at her phone. "5:07 AM. Thank god it's not a school night..." She let out a sigh of relief.
"Okay! Let's go!" Emu got up, giving her hand out to Nene.
Nene takes Emu's hand in hers, smiling softly. Hand in hand, they both head upstairs, and go back into Emu's room. The two then snuggle back into bed, slowly falling asleep. Then... a sudden question hit Nene's mind.
"...Emu?"
"Yeah, Nene-chan?"
"Why did you wanna eat cereal with me in the first place? You could've went alone... "
Emu raised her eyebrows slightly to the sudden question. She then let out a light-hearted chuckle, and looked at Nene with a smile. "I just wanted a reason to be with you, is all."
"Eh-? What do you mean a reason to be with me? We're always together, aren't we?"
"Yes, we are! I just wanted to spend more time with you. I get that we're always together now, but those are when we're at the Wonder Stage, or the mall! What I'm trying to say is..." Emu paused, the blush on her cheeks growing. "I wanted to make more special memories with you, Nene-chan. I love you lots and lots!!"
Nene flushed red, gladdened by Emu's words. "Emu... what are you doing to meeeeeee..." She thought flustered, thinking that she was about to die and melt into a puddle. Her stomach was filled with butterflies, as well as her heart, which was beating quite the speed.
"I-... I love you too, Emu..." Nene muttered. She then felt a pair of lips on hers, realizing that Emu is kissing her. Soft as usual, always leaving Nene at a loss for words. They both pull apart, with Emu smiling warmly, and Nene shyly looking away. Then they both snuggle into each other again, this time falling asleep with the comfort of each others company.
Emu may have some of the most bizarre ideas, but Nene will always agree to do them. No matter how crazy it is. That's just how much the two love each other, they'll both do anything to make the other happy.
