Work Text:

The night was cold, the slight breeze caressed Kaeya's cheek as he sipped on a glass of wine. He was seated at one of the tables behind the Dawn Winery. Kaeya took a week off from work to come home for a short while, it's been nice, but he can't say if he looks forward to coming back anytime soon. He only has two more days before he returns Saturday evening, Kaeya can't lie about being excited to see Albedo again. Kaeya stared out into the vineyard, taking in the sight of moonlight shining off the grapes as they hung off the vines and crystalflys as they flew between the rows of grapevines.

"What are you doing out here? It's gotta be around three in the morning." Diluc watched his brother flinch as he turned to face him. Diluc took a seat next to the Captain and sighed as he waited for Kaeya to answer. Kaeya looked into his glass before taking another sip.

"Just some unpleasant memories have resurfaced since coming back here and I needed fresh air." He finished off his drink and lightly sat his wineglass on the table. He glanced at Diluc, then back towards the vineyard. Diluc stayed silent for a while, he knew what memories probably came up and he was in no way ready to even begin talking about them.

"Sorry. I didn't mean to come off like I'm not enjoying your company." Kaeya eventually broke the silence and leaned forward, looking at Diluc. The tavern owner sighed and crossed his arms as he leaned back in his chair.

"I'm glad you're here." The Captain mumbled as he quickly turned his gaze towards the ground. Diluc let out a quiet chuckle, it's been a while since he saw the softer side of Kaeya.

"I know. I understand that it's probably just hard to think of this place as home for you anymore, but I promise you are always welcome here from now on." Diluc lightly pats Kaeya's shoulder as he tries to offer a soft smile. The Captain returned the smile, but he seemed more somber.

The brothers sat in silence once more for a longer period of time. Diluc sat restlessly like he was wanting to say something. Kaeya tried his best to ignore it, however, it became increasingly obvious that wasn't an option. The Captain turned to face Diluc completely and raised his eyebrows as if giving him the go-ahead to say whatever that was on his mind. Diluc let out a breath he didn't even realize he was holding before avoiding Kaeya's gaze.

"I know this doesn't mean much, but I'm sorry. I'm sorry for how I reacted back then, it might've been an overreaction. I'm just not sure what to do to make up for it." Diluc continued to avoid eye contact, and he started nervously bouncing his leg. Kaeya would never have guessed that Diluc was the nervous type. The Captain couldn't hold it in any longer, he began to laugh. He had to clutch his stomach because he was laughing so hard.

"You think?" Was the only thing Kaeya could get out between laughs, he wiped tears from his eyes. He let out the last of his laughing fit as he finally looked towards his brother, who wore an expression that wasn't quite startled, but also wasn't quite annoyance.

"You almost killed me." Kaeya wore a smug smile, and Diluc's expression relaxed into one of annoyance.

"Maybe I should've if this is how you react when I'm trying to be serious." Diluc frowned as he set his hands on the table, "I was being serious." Kaeya's smile faded into a sincere one and he sighed before speaking.

"I know. I honestly don't think I ever blamed you for how you reacted. I take most, if not all blame for what happened that day. So I should be the one apologizing." Kaeya looked towards the table. "If it means anything, then I'm sorry. If there is anything I can do to make up for the way I acted, please tell me." He was on the brink of tears, if he looked at Diluc he knew he would immediately lose the small grip he had on his emotions. Kaeya heard his brother stand up, but he refused to look at him.

Diluc stood next to Kaeya, he grabbed his brother by the arm and pulled him to his feet, Kaeya still was refusing to look at him. Diluc pulled Kaeya into a tight hug, he squeezed as hard as he could.

"It might just be easier to move on if that's okay with you." Diluc said quietly as his eyes began to well up. Kaeya gripped Diluc's jacket and finally let out the tears that begged to be let go. Diluc let his tears fall as well, though his weren't nearly as strong. Kaeya sobbed into his brother's shoulder, Diluc sighed as he placed his hand on the back of Kaeya's head.

"If that's what you want, then I think I can do that." The Captain's voice was hoarse as he finally got his tears to slow. Diluc pulled away and offered a smile to his brother.

"Then let's head back in, it wouldn't be good for you to catch a cold." Diluc began walking towards the side door of the winery. Kaeya stared at the ground as he followed, he really didn't want his brother to see him weak like this.

Kaeya woke up to knocking at his door, he grumbled as he pushed himself to his feet and stumbled towards the door. It was Adelinde, she came to let him know that breakfast was ready. He thanked her and retreated back into his room. Kaeya sat on the edge of his bed, he couldn't lie about how shitty he felt. No way he actually caught a cold, right? After a few moments, he finally headed downstairs to grab some food.

"Good morning, did you sleep well?" Diluc stared at his plate. Kaeya plopped in the chair that was across from his brother and held his head in his hands.

"Can't say I did, you?" Kaeya didn't look up but he could feel Diluc's eyes on him. Diluc sat his silverware next to his plate and sighed. It was obvious that Kaeya wasn't feeling well, but he didn't want to push it too much further.

"Did you catch a cold?" Diluc leaned back in his chair and crossed his arms, Kaeya finally looked up and frowned at his brother. The Captain took a drink of water before turning to look at the wall.

"Not sure." He mumbled, Diluc smiled softly and returned to eating. He would glance at his brother every now and then and see that Kaeya was just pushing his food around instead of eating it. Diluc finished off his breakfast before walking over and sitting next to his brother, Kaeya didn't turn his head and continued to push the food around.

"Eating might help." Diluc leaned on his hand as he pointed to the food. This was not the first time they had been in this situation, Kaeya did the same thing when he had first arrived at the Dawn Winery when he was still a child. Kaeya sighed as he dropped the fork and stared at Diluc.

"Look. I'm not hungry, so just drop it." Kaeya didn't mean to snap at him like that but he really couldn't help it. Kaeya avoided eye contact and finished off his water. Diluc stood up and pushed in his chair, Kaeya glanced over and watched Diluc leave without saying anything. Shit. Kaeya hung his head and sat at the table for a while longer.

Kaeya shot up from his bed as if he had a nightmare. The Captain was disoriented at first but eventually got his barrings, he sighed as he sat on the edge of the bed. Kaeya glanced out the window and it was evening, he groaned as he began to head downstairs. The nap definitely helped, he was feeling a lot better. As he descended the stairs, Diluc sat at the table just like this morning, eating dinner. Kaeya saw there was a plate set aside for him, but his brother was almost done eating. Why didn’t Adelinde tell him dinner was ready?

“How long have you been waiting?” Kaeya mumbled as he took his seat and stared at his plate. Diluc cleared his throat before speaking.

“Not long. I told Adelinde that I would get you when dinner was ready, but when I went in you were sound asleep. I figured it’d be better to let you rest.” Diluc sat his fork down and turned to face Kaeya, “I’m really sorry I pushed you this morning.” Kaeya finally looked at his brother and softly smiled.

“No. I’m sorry I snapped. You did nothing wrong.” Kaeya chuckled to himself. This conversion sounds a lot like the one they had last night. Diluc returned the smile and continued eating. The Captain picked up his fork and picked through the food, he wasn’t really hungry, but he didn’t want to repeat what happened his morning. Diluc sighed, but it was more of a sigh of relief that Kaeya was at least eating.

After they finished eating, the brothers sat outside in silence just enjoying each other’s company. It was the last night they’d have like this for a while. The silence was comfortable until Diluc once again fidgeted like he had something to say. Kaeya sighed and once again silently gave him permission to say whatever it was.

“Are we okay?” Diluc avoided eye contact. The question took Kaeya by surprise, he was under the assumption that they were. Kaeya looked out towards the vineyard and smiled to himself.

“I think we are, what do you think?” Kaeya leaned on his hand and closed his eyes, trying to give Diluc as much space as he needed, this was a loaded question for the two of them. Diluc smiled and finally looked toward his brother.

“I would say we are.” He said quietly. Kaeya turned his head towards Diluc and offered a smile.

“Good.” Kaeya simply said. The brothers sat in silence once more for a while longer. Until Diluc stood up and slowly pushed in his chair.

“It’s getting late, we should head in.” Diluc smiled and headed towards the door. Kaeya sighed before catching up with him. “Wouldn’t be good for you to catch a cold.” Diluc teased the Captain, which earned him a punch to the arm. The brothers laughed as they walked inside.

Kaeya was woken up earlier than he would've liked. He slowly made his way downstairs, once at the foot of the stairs he yawned and looked over to see if Diluc was at the table. He was not. Kaeya glanced around and saw his plate waiting for him. He tried to hide the scowl on his face, his appetite really refused to exist. He told Adelinde that he wasn't hungry and apologized for the trouble, she wore a slight frown as she brought the plate to the kitchen.

The Captain stood in front of Diluc's office door, the same office door that once belonged to their father. He hesitated as he brought his fist up to the door. He knocked quietly, but Diluc heard him and invited Kaeya in. Diluc smiled softly as Kaeya slowly walked towards his desk.

"Did you need something? Or did you just want to hang out?" Diluc sat his pen down and intertwined his fingers. Kaeya sat in a chair that was placed in the corner of the office, next to some bookshelves.

"I guess I'd like to hang out. What are you doing anyway?" Kaeya leaned his head on his hand and stared up at the shelves. Diluc sighed as he picked up his pen.

"Paperwork for the next shipment of alcohol for The Angel's Share." He turned his attention back to the paperwork. Kaeya nodded as he continued to scan the bookshelf. He reached up and grabbed an old photo album, he glanced over to Diluc who was filling out the paperwork. Kaeya began flipping through and memories started flooding in, good ones this time. He smiled to himself as he went through the pictures.

The day went by rather quickly, Kaeya stayed in Diluc's office as he worked and they silently did their own things. Diluc continued to fill out paperwork and cleaned his desk, while Kaeya flipped through photo albums and skimmed through some of the books Diluc had.

Adelinde interrupted their pleasant silence by telling them dinner was ready, they shared a glance and headed out towards the table. Diluc took his usual seat and Kaeya sat across from him. Diluc thanked Adelinde and she walked off. Kaeya stared down at his plate, he could feel a frown beginning to form. Diluc glanced over and sighed.

"Not to your liking?" Diluc quietly asked as he grabbed his drink. Kaeya glanced over and then looked back towards the plate of Sweet Madame. He forced a smile and shook his head. Why did food disgust him? Adelinde was a great cook, he always loved her food. Why is this happening now?

He slowly brought a slice of the fowl to his mouth and forced himself to eat it. He covered his mouth with his hand and forced it down. He caught a glimpse of a concerned look on his brother's face, but he ignored it. Kaeya continued to struggle to eat, Diluc tried to say something, but Kaeya ignored any sort of concern his brother had. The Captain chugged his water and pushed his empty plate toward the center of the table.

"I'm gonna go get packed. I'll be down in a couple of minutes." Kaeya quickly made his way toward his room. Diluc frowned as he watched his brother disappear up the steps. He knows what is happening, it's not the first time this has happened either. He stared down at his plate and sighed. He stood up and walked towards the upstairs bathroom. Diluc stood next to the closed door and could hear Kaeya puking. He leaned on the wall and crossed his arms as he waited.

Kaeya slowly opened the door and tried to walk away, Diluc grabbed his arm and wore a look of disappointment. Kaeya could feel the tears well up.

"Diluc." Kaeya stuttered as he looked away, "I promise I'm fine, just let me go get packed. Please." His voice wavered, he knew Diluc wasn't gonna let this go.

"I thought I told you to let me know when this happens?" Diluc didn't mean to shout, but he was frustrated. Kaeya glanced over and saw tears build up in his brother's eyes. He hung his head and pushed Diluc's hand off his arm.

"How was I supposed to know you meant that? You told me that after you almost killed me!" Kaeya's voice cracked as he yelled back. Diluc crossed his arms and sighed.

"Okay." He simply said. Kaeya's confusion was clear on his face as he replicated Diluc's stance. "What you said makes sense. But I was still worried. This is the third time that I at least have been aware that you aren't eating well." Kaeya scoffed.

"I'm fine. Could we just drop it? I'd like to get home before morning." Kaeya turned away to head to his room.

"I'll walk with you. I have to drop the paperwork off at the tavern anyway." Diluc let his arms hang at his side. Kaeya nodded as he continued to his room.

Kaeya was glad the walk wasn't long, he wasn't sure how much longer he could stand the awkward silence between him and Diluc.

Once they walked through the gates of Mondstadt, Diluc grabbed Kaeya's arm and forced him to look at him.

"Please tell him the next time this happens. I want to help, you are my brother. If there is anything I can do, I'll do it." Diluc stared intently, Kaeya sighed and offered a small smile.

"I'll be fine, I always am. But sure, I'll tell you if I need anything." Kaeya lightly patted Diluc's shoulder. "I going to the headquarters, but I'll see you sometime this week, okay?" Diluc smiled before nodding. The brothers waved as they went in their separate directions.

It was late, but Kaeya suspected Albedo would still be at the headquarters doing god knows what. He pushed the large open door open and quickly walked toward Albedo’s office.

He knocked on his door and silently waited, slightly bouncing with excitement. The door slowly creaked open and his eyes met the amber eyes of Albedo's assistant, Sucrose. She was obviously startled as she swung the door all the way open.

"Captain Kaeya. What are you doing here?" Sucrose stuttered as she moved out of the way to let him in. He sighed and walked into the empty office. Kaeya turned to face Sucrose and she was fiddling with her hands.

"Master Jean sent Mr.Albedo on a last-minute trip to Dragonspine, he should be back tomorrow morning." She gave him an awkward smile.

"Then what are you doing here? I hope it's nothing nefarious." The Captain crossed his arms and watched embarrassment take over the timid alchemist's face.

"What? No! I needed to pick up something for an experiment I'm running." She was obviously offended by Kaeya's accusation. "Look. Yes, it's hard to watch Mr.Albedo be in love with someone else. But I'd never do something like you are implying." She turned towards the door and stomped out, slamming the door behind herself.

Kaeya stood dumbfounded. Love? Did Albedo love him? Did he love Albedo? Kaeya was hit with the realization that they never told each other how they actually feel. He rubbed his face as he sat on the couch that was near the door. Just yet another thing they need to talk about.

Albedo quietly opened his office door, he doubted that anyone was here this late, but he was still careful to not make any noise. He walked over to his desk and dropped his bag in front of it then sighed. A quiet snore startled him and he turned to see Kaeya asleep on his couch. Albedo softly smiled as he walked over and crouched next to the sleeping Captain.

The alchemist gently rubbed his hand along Kaeya’s cheek. The Captain began to stir and Albedo retracted his hand and watched Kaeya’s eyes slowly open. Kaeya immediately smiled and caressed Albedo’s cheek. The Captain took a deep breath as he sat up and the alchemist took a seat next to him.

“I thought you weren’t getting back until tomorrow?” Kaeya stretched his arm and laid it behind Albedo’s head on the back of the couch. Albedo rested his head on Kaeya’s shoulder and sighed.

“That was the plan, but Timaeus and I finished our work early so we decided to head back early.” Albedo closed his eyes as he scooted closer. “When did you get back?” Kaeya leaned his head back and stared at the ceiling.

“I guess a few hours ago. I ran into Sucrose picking something up from your office and she let me know about your Dragonspine trip, why did Jean send on another when we were just up there a week ago?” Kaeya questioned as he glanced over.

“Well, it’s not like we did what we were supposed to.” Albedo smirked as he leaned even closer into Kaeya’s shoulder.

“Speaking of Sucrose, She said something that got me thinking.” Kaeya adverted his gaze and cleared his throat. He knew this probably wasn’t the best time to bring this up, since they were both tired. He placed his hands in his lap and could see confusion and slight concern creep their way onto Albedo’s face out of the corner of his eyes.

“What was it that she said?” Albedo sighed as he crossed his arms. His expression melted into something more like disappointment. Kaeya glanced over toward the alchemist and then toward the floor.

“It doesn’t matter what she said exactly, but what she did say, or at least imply, made me realize we never actually talked about, well, feelings.” He slowly said as he looked towards Albedo, who had a flushed face but wore a soft smile.

“Well, I guess I thought there wasn’t any purpose in talking about feelings, since it was obviously mutual.” Albedo placed his hand on Kaeya’s arm, who flinched as soon as they made contact. Kaeya looked towards the ground as he took a deep breath.

“You say that, but I feel like you were just going along with what I wanted. At least in the beginning.” Kaeya mumbled. He returned his gaze towards the alchemist who wore an expression that said nothing but guilt. Kaeya could almost feel his heart shatter.

“Wait” Kaeya stood up quickly and faced Albedo, he could feel a frown form. “Were you just going along with what I did?” The Captain didn’t mean to raise his voice. Albedo stood in front of Kaeya and took his hand in his. Albedo stared at the floor and nodded. Kaeya scoffed and pulled his hand away and crossed his arms.

“Are you joking? Why would you do that?” Kaeya tried to lower his voice but ultimately failed. Albedo refused to look up at Kaeya. The alchemist tightened his fists at his side.

“It was only in the beginning! Why does it matter now?” Albedo finally looked Kaeya in the eyes, he stared intently into Kaeya’s eyes. The Captain’s frown deepened.

“Then when?” Kaeya took a step back. “When did it become real?” Albedo’s fists loosened as he adverted his gaze once more. Kaeya reached out and forced him to keep looking at him. Albedo took a deep breath.

“The night before we headed back during our expedition.” The alchemist mumbled, he pushed Kaeya’s hand off his chin. “I didn’t sleep that night, because all of, this, is so new to me. I wasn’t sure how to approach it.” Kaeya felt his expression relax, only a bit.

“But why go along in the first place?” Kaeya crossed his arms once more and shifted his weight on his opposite foot. Albedo sighed and looked towards the ground.

“Because of your connection to Khaenri’ah.” Albedo glanced up through his bangs as he watched Kaeya’s frown slowly fade into a smile he was attempting to fight. The alchemist was struck by confusion and looked into Kaeya’s eyes.

“I know, it’s not the time to laugh. But that was actually the reason I even began flirting with you.” Kaeya held his arm in front of his face to hide his ever-growing smile. It was Albedo’s turn to frown.

“Then when did it become real for you?” He crossed his arms as the Captain cleared his throat and offered a smile. Kaeya placed his hand on his chin and thought for a moment.

“Well, I can’t really say, but I guess it was when we sat on a rock on the cliff overlooking Windrise when we were headed to Dragonspine.” Albedo hung his arms and his sides, his frown turned into a soft smile as he took a step closer and threw his arms around Kaeya’s waist.

“I’m sorry.” Albedo mumbled into Kaeya’s chest. The Captain tightened the hug as he rested his head on Albedo’s shoulder.

“No. I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have made a big deal out of it.” Kaeya is a bit tired of apologizing. He knows he needs to, he keeps toeing the line of ruining everything, again. The two stood in silence for a couple of minutes.

“I love you.” Albedo whispered as he lifted his head and stared at the wall behind Kaeya. The Captain tensed for a split second. He pulled away slightly to look into Albedo’s eyes. They were filled with tears. Kaeya’s heart stopped for just a second, he leaned back down and tightened the hug once more.

“Yeah, I love you too.” Kaeya whispered back as he closed his eyes. Was it too soon for them to admit that? Maybe. However, Kaeya was sure now that he really did love Albedo.

“Why don’t you stay the night with me tonight?” Kaeya pulled slightly away and wiped the remaining tears off of Albedo’s cheeks. The alchemist simply nodded and the two headed to Kaeya’s house.

The bright morning sun shone directly into Kaeya’s eyes. He mumbled as he forced his eyes open. He was greeted with the top of Albedo’s head. The alchemist was nestled against Kaeya as far as he could. Kaeya could melt. He squeezed slightly and tucked his nose into Albedo’s hair. He really likes Albedo’s scent. Was that a weird thing to admit?

Albedo slowly peeled his eyes open, he was alone. He sat up and glanced around, he heard the shower running and he sighed. Albedo pushed himself out of bed and headed to the kitchen to make breakfast. Before he could make it to the kitchen, there was a knock at the door. Albedo glanced around before walking over and opening the door. It was Diluc.

“Ah- Albedo?” Diluc questioned as he looked behind the alchemist. Albedo offered a friendly smile. Diluc looked Albedo up and down before clearing his throat. The alchemist, confused, glanced down and remembered he had borrowed pajamas from Kaeya. He could feel his face slightly warm.

“Kaeya is in the shower if you’d like to come in. I was about to make breakfast.” Albedo stepped out of the way as Diluc walked in. Albedo closed the door and sighed before turning around.

“I’ll go get dressed if you don’t mind waiting?” Albedo began walking towards Kaeya’s room.

“Oh yeah. Take your time.” Diluc mumbled as he skimmed over the pictures Kaeya had hung on his wall. He stopped on a painting that was signed ‘Albedo’. It was a painting of the Windrise tree with Kaeya sitting on a rock. Diluc felt a soft smile form on his face as he looked over it.

Kaeya walked out of his bathroom and Albedo was getting dressed. He adverted his eyes and cleared his throat. Albedo didn’t even glance over. Kaeya couldn’t help himself and he stared at Albedo’s back. It was dusted with freckles. Is weird that he wanted to kiss every single one? Kaeya finally looked away as Albedo slid his shirt overtop his head.

“Your brother is here.” Albedo simply said as he turned to face Kaeya. Kaeya immediately tensed. He knew why Diluc was here, and he really didn’t want to have the conversation in front of Albedo.

“I’ll go get started on breakfast.” Albedo smiled as he walked out the door.

Kaeya got dressed then sat on the side of his bed and held his head in his hands and took a deep breath. He heard a knock on the door and Diluc slowly opened the door. Kaeya looked up and was greeted with a soft smile.

“I see things are going well between you and Albedo.” Diluc closed the door and sat next to the Captain. Kaeya let out a small chuckle as he straightened his back.

“What are you doing here?” Kaeya sighed as he leaned back. Diluc’s smile faded slightly as he looked towards the closed door, then back to his brother.

“Honestly, I was gonna ask if you wanted to get breakfast with me, but seeing how your boyfriend is here, I don’t want to intrude.” Diluc intertwined his fingers and looked towards the floor. Hearing Diluc call Albedo his boyfriend was nothing short of embarrassing. Kaeya cleared his throat before replying,

“No, don’t worry about it. I’m sure Albedo wouldn’t mind.” Kaeya stared at the floor and sighed. Diluc was just here to make sure he ate, Kaeya knew that. Diluc looked up at the bedroom door once more.

“Does he know?” Kaeya glanced over to Diluc, who was still looking at the closed door. “Have you talked to him about it?” Diluc slowly looked over to Kaeya and tried to offer a small smile. Kaeya returned the smile, but his was even smaller.

“No. I’m not sure how to bring it up if I’m honest.” Kaeya looked towards the floor once more and took a deep breath. Diluc stood up and stretched.

“Okay, well I can help you talk to him about it then.” Diluc offer his hand to his brother and helped Kaeya to his feet. Kaeya scoffed and crossed his arms.

“I’m not that frail.” Kaeya had a sarcastic tone as he walked over and placed his hand on the doorknob. “But, I appreciate it.” He smiled at his brother and they walked out to the kitchen.

Diluc took a seat at the table while Kaeya disappeared into the kitchen, Kaeya wrapped his arms around Albedo as he was finishing up the breakfast sandwiches. Kaeya tried to hide the sudden nausea. He loves Albedo’s cooking, maybe it was because Albedo was the cook, but this was getting ridiculous. He rested his forehead on Albedo’s shoulder and stared at the floor. He could feel it. Kaeya quickly backed off and leaned over the sink and puked. Albedo quickly rubbed his back and Kaeya straightened his posture. He glanced over and was met with concerned looks from both Albedo and Diluc who was now in the archway to the kitchen. Kaeya leaned back over the sink and tried to fight the tears that were forming. He failed.

They all sat at the table and Albedo was looking between the brothers. Kaeya felt guilty. The food was still in the kitchen and Albedo was waiting for an explanation. Diluc sighed, breaking the awkward silence that was built up.

“Kaeya has a hard time admitting it, but he has problems eating.” Albedo stared at Diluc intently. Kaeya stared at the table, he still hasn’t been able to stop the tears. “This is about the third time it’s been this bad.” Kaeya cleared his throat and looked up.

“It’s fine though so, please don’t worry.” Kaeya tried to give Albedo a smile, but Albedo frowned. Kaeya’s smile fell and he took a deep breath.

“No. It’s not fine. You just threw up at the sight of food.” Albedo crossed his arms. “Please. Let us help you, Kaeya.” Albedo outstretched his hand and Kaeya intertwined their fingers. Albedo wore a soft smile.

“I was hoping you’d get through to him.” Diluc sighed with relief. Kaeya felt his face warm as he slowly retracted his hand. Albedo smiled at Diluc and stood up.

“Do you want to try to eat? I can make you something else, or just make you a smaller portion.” Albedo fiddled with his hands, “If not, would it be okay if we ate?” Kaeya felt the guilt from earlier.

“If you could just make me a smaller portion? I’ll try to eat.” Kaeya looked at the table as he heard Albedo retreat into the kitchen. Diluc placed his hand on Kaeya’s shoulder.

“I’m proud of you.” Diluc had a sincere smile, Kaeya tried to return in but his was a lot more somber. The brothers waited as Albedo brought them their plates.

They ate in silence, Kaeya did his best to not overdo it, or force it. If he felt nauseous he sat the fork down and closed his eyes, then took a breath. He tried again, he took the longest to finish, but no one complained. He actually managed to get through the whole meal, and he didn’t feel nauseous. He smiled at the empty plate.

‘One step at a time’, that was what Crepus had said the first time Kaeya was struggling with eating like this, however, it was much worse back then.

Diluc said his goodbyes after having a one-on-one conversation with Albedo, probably giving him tips on the best way to help Kaeya with eating. Kaeya leaned back on his couch and sighed, he wants to avoid doing anything in case it forces his food back up. Kaeya heard his front door close and then Albedo plopped down next to him and rested his head on Kaeya’s chest.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” Albedo’s voice wavered. Kaeya’s heart sank, he scooped Albedo up and pulled him onto his lap. Albedo still had his head resting on Kaeya’s chest. The Captain wrapped his arms around Albedo and tightened the embrace.

“I don’t know. I guess I didn’t want to admit I even had a problem.” Kaeya whispered into his ear. Albedo sniffled and pulled away to look at Kaeya. He rested his forehead on Kaeya’s. The Captain sighed and offered a smile.

“You know you can tell me anything, right?” Albedo stared into Kaeya’s deep blue eyes. Kaeya sighed and pulled Albedo into a kiss. Albedo smiled on Kaeya’s lips and pulled away.

“I’m serious.” Kaeya nodded and pulled Albedo back. His hands traveled into Albedo’s hair, pushing him even more against his lips. Albedo sighed into the kiss, and Kaeya couldn’t help but smile.

“You are adorable, you know that?” Kaeya whispered, Albedo let out a small laugh and pulled farther away. Kaeya’s smile faltered only for a split second, as Albedo rested his head back on Kaeya’s chest.

“So you’ve said.” Albedo pulled away and stood up. Kaeya sighed as he leaned forward. “I need to head back to headquarters to finish up some paperwork regarding my expedition." Albedo smiled, Kaeya got to his feet and sighed.

"Yeah, alright. Will I see you later?" Kaeya placed his hand on Albedo's hip and the alchemist placed his hands on Kaeya's chest.

"Sure. I shouldn't take long." Albedo stood on his toes as he placed a small kiss on Kaeya's lips. Kaeya chuckled as he backed off. Albedo smiled as he headed out the door.

Kaeya fell back onto the couch and leaned his head back. He placed his arm over his eyes and sighed. He should try to eat again soon.

The next month was pretty rough, Albedo practically lived at Kaeya’s house and made sure he ate something every day. Diluc stopped by for dinner pretty regularly as well. Kaeya’s eating habits were improving little by little, however, one Friday night he seemed to have regressed.

“Kaeya, you haven't eaten today. Please just try to eat some of it.” Albedo pushed the plate toward the Captain and offered a sincere smile. Kaeya stared down at the salad and scoffed, pushing the plate away from him.

“I’m not hungry. I’ll be fine.” Kaeya leaned on his hand and closed his eyes. Albedo frowned and stood up. He stood behind Kaeya and lightly massaged the Captain’s shoulders. Kaeya sighed as he slowly opened his eyes once more.

“I know, but you haven't eaten anything today. Your body needs nutrients.” Albedo rested his chin on top of Kaeya’s head. Kaeya slowly grew more frustrated.

“I said, I’m fine.” Kaeya stood up and began walking towards his bedroom. Albedo crossed his arms and sighed,

“Kaeya. You have to eat.” Albedo pleaded with Kaeya. The Captain stopped and turned around, his expression was something of anger and possibly regret.

“Because you asked me too?” Kaeya crossed his arms and could feel his frown deepen. Albedo’s eyes widen slightly, he wasn’t expecting Kaeya to be so stubborn.

“Yes.” Albedo practically whispered. Kaeya furrowed his eyebrows as he glanced towards the front door.

“What are you? My mother? I don’t need you or Diluc to be constantly hovering over me and trying to treat me like I’m some frail child!” Kaeya shouted as he backed up against the front door. Albedo scoffed and let his arms hang at his side.

“No, I'm your boyfriend.” Albedo took a step closer to the Captain. “Please. Just eat something.” Albedo’s voice began to waver. Regret began to creep its way into Kaeya. The Captain turned to face the front door.

“I said. I’m fine!” Kaeya basically screamed as he pulled the door open and slammed it behind himself. Albedo took a step back as he felt tears stream down his face. He practically fell onto the couch and quietly cried in the dim living room.

Kaeya had no plans for where he was going, he just sat on a bench that overlooked the fountain. He held his head in his hands and tried to hold back tears. Kaeya heard light footsteps, they could be Albedo’s, despite the possibility, Kaeya looked up. Jean’s soft expression was the first thing he noticed, he let out a sigh as he scooted slightly over and Jean took a seat next to him.

“Kaeya? What are you doing out here?” Jean leaned forward on her knees to get a better look at Kaeya’s face. Kaeya took a deep breath.

“I had a fight with my, uh, boyfriend.” Kaeya stared at the ground. Jean softly smiled and placed her hand on his back. Kaeya slowly turned his head to face her.

“I see, what was it about?” Jean rubbed Kaeya’s back before removing her hand and placing it on her knee. Kaeya looked toward the ground once again.

“Me not eating.” Kaeya mumbled. She sighed as she leaned back on the bench.

“I take it you are having issues with eating again. Well, I don’t want to make things any worse, but you really should eat” Jean took a deep breath. Kaeya scoffed and leaned back.

“I know that. I’m just tired of people treating me like I’m so frail.” Kaeya whispered, he thought about how he yelled at Albedo. He leaned forward and placed his head in his hands once more. Jean sighed.

“If it means anything, you are one of the strongest people I know. However, even the strongest of people need help sometimes.” Jean lightly rubbed the Captain’s back. Kaeya took a deep breath, he had been fighting tears since he stormed out. He finally let them go. He quietly sobbed as Jean pulled him into a side hug. The pair sat there for a short while until Jean offered to walk him home.

Jean lightly knocked on Kaeya’s front door and heard frantic movement from inside. Albedo quickly pulled the door open with a heavy breath. He barely noticed Jean as he grabbed Kaeya’s arm and pulled him into a hug. Jean’s eyes had widened as much as they honestly could, she didn’t expect for Kaeya’s ‘boyfriend’ to be Albedo. The alchemist finally made eye contact with Acting Grand Master. He quickly pulled away from Kaeya and stared at Jean. Kaeya quietly chuckled as he stood behind Albedo.

“Thank you for walking me home, Jean.” Kaeya placed his hands on both of Albedo’s shoulders. Jean’s gaze softened as a smile began to grow.

“Of course. Goodnight now.” Jean waved as she walked off. Albedo pulled the door close and turned to face Kaeya, immediately burying his face into Kaeya’s chest.

“I was worried you weren’t gonna come home.” Albedo’s voice was raspy, probably from crying. Kaeya squeezed Albedo closer and closed his eyes.

“I’m so sorry for yelling at you, for not eating, and for walking out. I’m just such an idiot.” Kaeya rambled as he buried his face into Albedo’s hair. Albedo pulled away slightly and placed a hand on Kaeya’s cheek.

“Just promise me you’ll try to eat now, okay?” Albedo placed a small kiss on Kaeya’s cheek. The Captain took a deep breath and nodded. Albedo led him to the table where a fresh salad sat waiting for him.

Kaeya's eating habits had improved over the last month, so much so Albedo hadn't come by nearly as often. Kaeya frowned as he sat alone in his living room. He kept looking over towards his front door. Almost like it was planned, there was a knock. The Captain pushed himself to his feet and walked towards his door. The person knocked again.

"Calm down, I'm getting there." Kaeya yelled loud enough for the person to hear as he placed his hand on the doorknob. He slowly opened the door and was met with the turquoise eyes of the Chief Alchemist. Kaeya smiled as wide as he could and pulled Albedo inside.

"Hello to you too." Albedo chuckled as he wrapped his arms around Kaeya's waist. Kaeya squeezed Albedo as close as he could.

"I missed you." Kaeya pulled away slightly so he could place a kiss on Albedo's forehead. The alchemist looked up with confusion.

"We just saw each other like two hours ago." Albedo smiled as he walked towards the kitchen, almost out of habit. Kaeya sighed as he followed behind.

After they ate they sat in Kaeya's living room. Albedo lay across Kaeya's lap as he read whatever book he had. The Captain ran his hands through Albedo's hair over and over again. Kaeya was lost in thought so he didn't hear Albedo call his name until the alchemist sat up and looked at the Captain with concern.

"Sorry, what did you say?" Kaeya mumbled as he skimmed over Albedo's face and watched as the candlelight danced over his pale face.

"I asked if you heard about the ball Jean is planning for next weekend?" Albedo sat sideways on the couch with his legs crossed, facing Kaeya. The Captain glanced towards the wall and nodded.

"Are you okay?" Albedo leaned closer, placing his hands on Kaeya's chest. His heart was pounding.

"I was just lost in thought. I'm fine." Kaeya offered a smile, Albedo wore a small frown as he crossed his arms.

"Would you like to talk about it?" Albedo said quietly, hoping Kaeya wouldn't shut himself off like he usually does. Kaeya sighed as he looked toward the alchemist.

"If you are willing to listen." Kaeya muttered as he folded his hands in his lap. Albedo nodded and his frown began to fade into a soft smile. Kaeya turned slightly to fully face Albedo.

"I was thinking about the nightmare I had when we were on the expedition about a month ago." Kaeya averted his eyes, he knows it was time to open up about his father. It's not easy though. Albedo nodded along, not wanting to interrupt him.

"It was about us on a nice date that was ruined by my father showing up. He said some cruel things and warned me about wasting time on unimportant things. I didn't believe any of it. However, for context, my father abandoned me at the Dawn Winery and the last words he said to me were 'you are our last hope.'" Kaeya took a deep breath.

"I have, I guess you could call it a fear? Of disappointing him. Even though he abandoned me and I haven't seen him since so why should I even care?" Kaeya leaned forward and held his head in his hands. Albedo placed his hand on Kaeya's back.

"Thank you for opening up to me about this." Albedo whispered as he leaned forward, Kaeya lifted his head and made eye contact with him.

"It only makes sense you are scared to disappoint him, he is your father. Whether he is here or not, it's completely normal to want your parents' approval. However, relying completely on it isn't healthy." Albedo offered a sincere smile. Kaeya sighed and leaned back on the couch, Albedo following him and resting his head on Kaeya's shoulder.

"I know, and believe me, I don't believe anything he said in the dream. I know I'm not wasting time being with you. If I'm honest, it's exactly what I want to do." Kaeya tilted his head and placed a small kiss on Albedo's lips. The alchemist smiled and nodded.

"I never doubted you." Albedo whispered into Kaeya's ear. The Captain pulled Albedo so he was straddling his lap.

"Good." Kaeya whispered as he pulled Albedo closer and their lips met. The kiss was slow but Albedo could feel Kaeya's desperation. The alchemist chuckled as he placed his hands on Kaeya's cheeks and deepened the kiss. Kaeya sighed and pulled away. Albedo tilted his head slightly in confusion.

"Why don't you move in with me? I mean you practically lived here when I was struggling with food. Now it feels empty here with you." Kaeya stared intently into Albedo's eyes. He watched his cheeks turn a deep pink, Kaeya couldn't help but chuckle a little.

"I suppose it would only make sense." Albedo whispered as he leaned closer, "I would love to live with you." Albedo closed the gap once more and the kiss was hungrier than it had ever been. Kaeya slowly moved down to Albedo's neck and placed small kisses along as he went. He pulled Albedo's collar down and began sucking just below his collarbone. Albedo let out a sound he swore he had never made before. Kaeya stopped and stared for just a moment before flashing a smirk and going back to where he was. Albedo placed his forehead on Kaeya's shoulder while beginning to breathe a bit heavier. Kaeya pulled back to admire the mark he had left behind, he smiled to himself as he stood up, holding Albedo in his arms.

"Why don't we take this to the bedroom?" Kaeya whispered into Albedo's ear, and his breath tickled. Albedo couldn't do anything but nod. Kaeya laughed as he carried Albedo to his bed.

Kaeya slowly peeled his eyes open, he smiled as he stared at Albedo’s back. He reach up and lightly traced between the freckles that dusted his back. Albedo mumbled as he glanced behind himself. Kaeya slyly smiled as they made eye contact.

“Good morning.” Albedo flipped over to face Kaeya. The Captain caressed his cheek and Albedo leaned into the touch.

“Morning.” Kaeya placed a small kiss on Albedo’s forehead. “I could get used to waking up with you.” Albedo laughed in response as he sat up. He pushed himself to his feet and walked into the bathroom. Kaeya took a deep breath before standing up and patiently waited for his turn in the bathroom.

Albedo made breakfast, and Kaeya is excited to eat for once. He is glad that he can happily eat again. The two quietly eat at the table, sharing a glance every now and then.

“Tell me more about the ball Jean has planned.” Kaeya asked as he pushed his empty plate toward the center of the table. Albedo nodded as he placed his plate on top of Kaeya’s.

“Well, it's next weekend on Saturday. She says she is throwing it to celebrate all of the knights' hard work lately, and that we need to wear our fanciest clothes.”Albedo smiled, Kaeya hummed as he picked up their dishes and brought them into the kitchen.

“So I'll get to see you in a nice suit, right?” Kaeya looked over his shoulder and saw as Albedo’s face was dusted with a light shade of pink.

“That should’ve been obvious.” He mumbled before clearing his throat. “Do you have anything?” Albedo crossed his arms and leaned on the archway. Kaeya walked over and stood right in front of him.

“I do. However, you’ll have to wait to see it.” Kaeya grabbed Albedo by the waist and pulled him closer placing a light kiss on his lips. He smirked as he pulled away.

“Unlike you, I have patience.” Albedo poked Kaeya’s chest before pulling completely away and sighing. “I have plans with Sucrose, but I’ll be back later.” Kaeya frowned slightly and Albedo softly smiled.

“It’s just work stuff.” He quietly says as he places a small kiss on the Captain’s cheek. Kaeya nodded before sighing.

“I know we only just talked about it, but when do you want to move in?” Kaeya leaned on the archway. Albedo placed his hand on his chin and took a deep breath.

“Well, it’ll take me a couple of days to get packed. I’ll start packing tonight and then maybe move in next Friday or Maybe after the ball on Saturday?” Albedo softly smiled at the Captain and Kaeya is quick to return the smile.

“I’ll help you of course.” Kaeya shrugs slightly and Albedo nods. Kaeya walked over and stood next to the door. “Then I’ll see you later?” The Captain placed his hand on the doorknob.

“Of course.” Albedo smiled as he walked out the door. Kaeya waved as he slowly shut the door and took a deep breath.

The next week went by rather quickly, Kaeya was at Albedo's place after work just about every day to help him pack and move things into his house.

It was Thursday night and Kaeya was sitting on his usual barstool in the Angel's Share, lost in thought as he swirled his wine around in its glass.

"You haven't been by all week." Diluc was wiping down wine glasses as he approached the Cavalry Captain. Kaeya was pulled out of his thoughts and offered a smile to his brother.

"Sorry, I've been busy helping Albedo move his stuff." Kaeya sipped his wine and Diluc nodded.

"He's moving?" Diluc crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow.

"Uh, yeah. He is moving in, with me." Kaeya mumbled into his wine glass before taking the last sip. Diluc took a deep breath before responding.

"Isn't it a bit early for that? You've only been together for what? A month or two?" Diluc sighed and did his best not to sound skeptical. Kaeya stared at the bar counter.

"Almost two months, and yeah, probably." Kaeya shrugged before looking up at his brother, who simply shook his head.

"Well, good luck then. I hope it all works out. I have to get back to work, I'll see you at the knights' ball, okay?" Diluc gave Kaeya a small wave before walking off. Kaeya stared at the back of his brother, confused. Diluc is going to be at the ball? Why?

Albedo decided he'll fully move in after the ball on Saturday since Kaeya wasn't able to help on Thursday and Jean had the alchemist stay late on Friday. Kaeya wasn't too upset about it, he honestly wanted to be surprised by Albedo's suit on Saturday.

It took Kaeya an hour to get ready for the knights' ball, he wore an all-black suit with an icy blue strip that ran along the seam of his sleeve. The cufflinks were the same shade of blue and had the cryo sigil embedded into them. His vest was a lighter shade of black and the buttons matched his cufflinks. His tie was the same icy blue as the stripe down his sleeve. It was a simple suit, but it was Kaeya's favorite one he owned.

Kaeya was a bit upset that he had to walk alone to the knights' headquarters, but it was worth it once he entered the building. All the knights were dressed up in fancy dresses and suits. He didn't have to look too hard to spot Albedo.

Albedo wore an all-white suit, a perfect contrast to Kaeya's. His tailcoat had gorgeous golden buttons, and the stitches were a similar color. Albedo's vest is white as well with golden detailing. Kaeya was amazed, Albedo always looked good, but right now? He looked beautiful.

Albedo hadn't seen the Captain yet and was busy conversing with his assistants, Sucrose and Timaeus. Kaeya stood behind Albedo and put his finger over his lips as Sucrose was about to tell Albedo. Kaeya smirked as he grabbed Albedo by the waist and pulled him into a backward hug.

"Kaeya!" Albedo practically squeaked with surprise. Kaeya couldn't hold in his laughter as his lover turned to face him with a frown that melted into a soft smile.

"Mind if I steal this one from you two?" Kaeya released Albedo and then locked their elbows. Albedo offered an apologetic smile. Sucrose sighed and crossed her arms.

"We were just about finished talking anyways. Have fun you two." Sucrose forced a smile before waving as Kaeya basically dragged Albedo away.

"You are late, you know." Albedo chuckled while being pulled towards the drink table.

"It takes work to look this good." Kaeya gestured to his body, Albedo covered his mouth as a laugh slipped out, causing Kaeya to scoff.

"You look amazing Kaeya, you always do." The alchemist softly smiled as he poured himself a glass of wine. Kaeya returned the smile before glancing around. Albedo raised an eyebrow before glancing around as well.

"What are you looking for?" Albedo questioned the Captain.

"Diluc said he was coming. I'm not sure why, but I want to say hi before I get too distracted by you." Kaeya smirked as he looked Albedo up and down. The alchemist's face began to flush.

"I mean, you look gorgeous. I could stare at you forever." Kaeya leaned closer to Albedo, leaving a small kiss on his cheek. Albedo softly smiled at the Captain as he took a sip of his wine.

"Get a room." A voice startled the couple, Kaeya looked up and saw Diluc pouring a glass of wine on the other side of the table.

Diluc wore a similar outfit to his usual one, just a bit more put-together and with more red accents. Kaeya frowned at his brother as he took the glass of wine Dliuc offered.

"Should've known you'd be the bartender." Kaeya muttered as he took a sip. Diluc chuckled and crossed his arms.

"Jean said she'd pay me quite handsomely if I'd provide the alcohol for the knights' ball and that she'd throw in a little extra if I came as the bartender." He shrugged as he wiped down the table.

"It's good to see you again Diluc." Albedo smiled as he handed him his empty glass. Diluc smiled and refilled it.

"Kaeya told me you two were moving in together, congratulations." Diluc glanced behind the two men.

"Thank you." Albedo said simply, also glancing behind himself, seeing a line beginning to form.

"Well I've got a job to do, so you two have fun." The tavern owner gestured behind the couple and Kaeya finally noticed the line and awkwardly smiled.

"See you around Diluc." Kaeya waved as they walked off. Before the two could get far Jean approached them.

"Albedo, would it be okay if I spoke to you about your upcoming experiment?" Jean smiled, barely noticing Kaeya standing next to him. Albedo glanced up at Kaeya, almost like he was asking permission.

"Don't look at me like you need my approval. I'll find you later, okay?" Kaeya placed a kiss on the top of Albedo's head. Jean glanced toward Kaeya and awkwardly smiled. Albedo nodded before walking off with Jean.

Kaeya sighed as he leaned against the wall and glanced over the crowd. He was zoned out and could barely register that someone was calling out to him until they lightly tapped his shoulder.

"Finally. I called your name like four times." Eula crossed her arms and shifted her weight onto one foot. Kaeya stared at her like he didn't know who she was, before taking a deep breath and mirroring her stance.

"Sorry, I was zoned out." Kaeya mumbled as he looked towards the crowd again. Eula smiled as she leaned against the wall next to him.

"Where's your boyfriend?" She quietly questioned as she was also staring out at the crowd. Only stopping once her eyes landed on someone specific. Kaeya glanced at the Reconnaissance Captain, then followed her gaze. She was staring at the Outrider, Amber. Kaeya shot Eula a knowing smile, causing Eula to playfully punch the Cavalry Captain in the arm.

"Well, Jean needed to speak with Albedo. What's your excuse?" Kaeya smirked at Eula. She sighed and looked towards the floor.

"I don't have one. I guess I'm just nervous. Imagine me, Eula Lawrence of the Lawrence clan, nervous." She fiddled with her hands before looking back up toward Amber. Kaeya took a deep breath.

"What's stopping you from going over there and whisking her away somewhere?" Kaeya crossed his arms and looked towards Jean's office door.

"The idea of her rejecting me." She spoke softly, "the possibility of ruining our friendship."

Kaeya saw Albedo and Jean exit her office. He glanced back at Eula and sighed.

"Do you want to be with her?"

Eula slightly frowned at the Cavalry Captain.

"Yes."

"Then go be with her. Whether it's as a friend or something more. Go to her." Kaeya offered a sincere smile and placed a hand on Eula's shoulder. "I know I would have regretted it if I stood and did nothing." Eula softly smiled.

"Yeah, alright." She lightly stretched, "uh, thank you, for the advice." Kaeya chuckled and softly pushed her in Amber's direction. Eula nodded and walked towards the Outrider.

Albedo glanced at Eula and slightly nodded as he approached Kaeya.

"What was that about?" Albedo questioned as he wrapped his arms around Kaeya's waist. Kaeya happily went along and scooped Albedo into a tight hug.

"Oh, nothing. She just needed a push." Kaeya closed his eyes and rested his head on the alchemist's shoulder.

"A push?" Albedo pulled away slightly, causing Kaeya to remove his head. The Captain offered a smile and looked towards Eula and Amber dancing. Albedo turned towards the duo and smiled.

"I see." Albedo said softly. Kaeya noticed what looked like disappointment creeping its way onto Albedo's face.

"What's wrong?" Kaeya tilted his head slightly as Albedo looked him in the eyes.

"I was hoping you'd ask me to dance." Albedo pulled away completely and crossed his arms. Kaeya chuckled before thinking for a moment.

Next thing Albedo knew, Kaeya was down on one knee and dramatically threw his left hand in the air while the other rested on his chest, over his heart. Albedo's face flushed a bright red.

"Albedo Kreideprinz, would you do me the honor and have this dance with me?" Kaeya announced, drawing nearly everyone's attention. Albedo glanced around and quickly pulled Kaeya to his feet as the Captain laughed.

"I would be honored to have this dance." Albedo smiled, the embarrassment still fresh on his face. Kaeya wore a smug smile as he guided Albedo toward the dance floor.

Kaeya placed his hands on Albedo's waist and Albedo put his hands behind Kaeya's neck. Kaeya leaned forward and leaned their foreheads together as they swayed back and forth.

Kaeya has never been this happy. He could die a happy man right in this moment. The Cavalry Captain never wanted this night to end. However, it was getting late and just about everyone else had left.

"Could we stop by my place to grab the last of my things?" Albedo intertwined their fingers as he and Kaeya walked outside of the headquarters.

"Of course." Kaeya simply said as Albedo took the lead.

The walk to Albedo's place was short, the walk home was shorter. Kaeya was ecstatic to get home. Their home.

Kaeya unlocked his front door and opened it for Albedo.

"Welcome home." Kaeya said softly. Albedo smiled as he walked past the Captain.

"I'm home." Albedo turned around and Kaeya handed him the extra key he had. Albedo chuckled softly.

Albedo placed the box he was holding on the floor next to him and stepped closer to Kaeya. Albedo grabbed his coat and pulled him into a soft kiss. Their life together was still only just beginning.
