“LOG DATE… Umm… forget it. Brimstone, I came back to S22, you know how intrigued I am about this place. I’ll keep you updated” Yoru recorded to send it later to Brimstone.
This place seems to feel colder every time I visit it again. I wish I could have come here alone … “Remind me why are you following me?” Yoru asked.
“Well Brimstone said I had to get familiar with Cypher’s maps and I can’t think of a better way to learn than visiting the locations” Gekko replied.
“This is so fucking annoying, get back to the headquarters kid” Yoru complained.
“What do you mean kid? Ni que estuvieras tan ruco para hablarme así” Gekko replied
“Ah? What did you just say?”
“Aww, so cute. I remembered you only understand English and Japanese.” Gekko teases Yoru.
“Ugh that’s why I go on missions alone”
“Whatever… Oh look at that building, race you to the bombsite”
Gekko started running while waving to Yoru. He really didn’t want to race Gekko, he was used to his slow journeys due to the nature of his visits. Even though he didn’t want to, Yoru ended up chasing after Gekko. As soon as Gekko noticed that Yoru was catching up, he threw his mosh pit to the floor, blocking the way to the bombsite.
“Hey, you’re not playing fair”
“LOL, who said we couldn’t use abilities? You’re so innocent Yoru-san”
Yoru stopped running and ended up letting Gekko win the race to the bombsite. He knew the mosh pit wasn’t an obstacle since he could have used the rope and got to the top site. The truth is he liked Gekko addressing him as Yoru-san. Of course he wouldn't admit it, thus he just started walking once the molly dissipated.
“Well done…”
“Thank you, looks like you’re really an old man. Why don’t you use the ropes? I was aiming for you to get tired”
“It was a running competition, not climbing. Unlike you, I play fair”
“Yeah yeah, no chille, if it makes you feel better, I’ll race you again, so you’ve got another chance”
"Alright stay here while I check the site for any recent spike detonations"
"Roger that, good luck"
Good thing the radianite sites aren't that big, otherwise this task would be a nightmare. "Brimstone, no signs of perturbation in the site and the collider… is still broken if you're wondering. Geeko is okay so no need to worry. I'll keep you updated" Yoru sent the voice message to Brimstone's phone.
"Alright Gekko, let's check on the other site and we're good to go"
"Time for a rematch?"
"You know I never back down"
After Yoru said that, they both started striding to the other bombsite. As expected, Gekko kept his promise and didn't cheat during the race. As Gekko was running he never saw that Yoru went ahead of him. Finally, Gekko arrived at the bombsite and started celebrating.
"What can I say? I was born for this"
"Really? I didn't notice when you got here." said Yoru, who was already on the site.
"HUH? How? I didn't see you in front of me during the whole race, I could hear your footsteps behind me"
"About that… It was my clone" claimed Yoru while laughing.
"Not fair, weren't you such a crybaby earlier for me using abilities?”
"We're even now. Next one is fair for sure"
Gekko started laughing about what just happened. Even though Yoru claimed to play fair next time, he didn't believe a single word. Suddenly, a phone started buzzing.
"Oh, wait a second, Yoru"
"Go ahead, I'll wait, but just this time because you're a newbie"
"Hello, coach?" Gekko replied to the call
"Hey Hey, how are you doing kid?"
"So far so good, is there any problem?"
"No no, just checking. Are you feeling cold? Feeling dehydrated? Need a break? Anything please tell me"
"Chill out, coach, why are you so worried?"
"Nothing in particular… just afraid of Reyna threatening me if something happened to you" Harbor starts laughing nervously.
In the middle of the call, Yoru noticed how some gas deployers started lining up on the floor. This was a sign of someone else's presence in the location.
"Gekko"
"Wait a minute, I'm in the middle of a call"
"Gekko, fall back"
"Carajo, Yoru. Espera un momento"
At that moment, Yoru decides to grab Gekko's phone and answers the call.
"Harbor, this is Yoru. There's omega presence in S22, tell Brim to send a support squad"
Yoru hung up the call and put his hand in Gekko's mouth, telling him with a sign to stay silent. They kept observing to have proper information once the rest of the team arrived. Since their presence hadn't been detected yet, they could see Omega Viper, Jett and Sage checking the whole site.
They could hear the spike being planted from the back of the site and at the same time, the vulture was making his arrival into Icebox.
"They're here!" Gekko cheered
As soon as they heard the Vulture parking, the toxin screen was deployed. Yoru's phone started ringing.
"Brim, we spotted 3 omega agents, what's the plan?" responded Yoru
"Alright, team, I could only send Killjoy in the Vulture and if things start to get worse, KAY/O will leave the Vulture on autopilot. "
"Are you crazy? Only Killjoy? We don't even have smokes to enter the site"
"Astra will be in the line soon, she's with you from the headquarters" Brim replied.
"She'd be of more help here but whatever"
Yoru ends the call and waits for a call from Astra. To his surprise, she was already in line through Gekko's phone explaining the plan for Killjoy and him.
"What the fuck!, wait for me"
"Alright, boys, Astra will deploy her smokes to my contact, as soon as we reach the elevated platform, I'll deploy the lockdown and you’ll have just enough time to defuse" explained Killjoy
After that, Killjoy sends a signal to Astra, they deploy two smokes and a fake smoke to let Gekko and Killjoy cross while Yoru contests the Yellow container area against Omega Jett and Sage.
As for Omega Viper, she slays the push into site by mollying them getting near the spike. This is the moment Killjoy deploys the lockdown which gives 13 seconds to the Omega agents to retreat.
"Gekko, get on the defuse, I'll cover for you" Killjoy said.
As he hears the call out, Gekko sends wingman to get on the bomb, which gives him time to gain space along with Yoru. They injured both Jett and Viper on their way out of the confinement zone.
Wingman defused the spike and the lockdown ran out. As soon as they get the defuse, Killjoy retrieves the bomb and they all start running to get on the Vulture before the Valorant Legion team comes back to the site. They start running but in a second Gekko stops and goes back to the site.
"Idiot, what the heck do you think you're doing?" Yoru yelled
"I forgot to retrieves wings, I can't leave it here" Gekko explains
"UGH, I'll go with you"
"I'll get the bomb to the Vulture but my turret is going with you" Killjoy yelled.
Gekko, Yoru and Killjoy's turret head into the site. Just as Killjoy feared, the toxin screen went up again as they heard the sound of footsteps from B site.
"Just molly the entrance and retrieve that thing" Yoru said
"I can't I used my mosh pit during our race"
"UGH, leave it to me, I'll buy you some time and don't throw more of your things"
"Roger that!"
While the turret was covering any mid push for Gekko, Yoru started pushing back the Omega agents with his flash. He managed to take out Omega Jett, but in an attempt of trading, Omega Sage shot bullets into Yoru’s legs. Leaving him with considerable pain as he tried to retreat.
“Astra could you block the B site entrance with a gravity well, please, I need to get Yoru back” Gekko dialed.
Gekko reached Yoru and helped him stand on his feet to get to the Vulture. They were able to reach the ship thanks to Astra’s ability and a Killjoy lineup. They’re all back together and head back to the headquarters.
“Gut gemacht! Mission accomplished!” Killjoy cheered.
“Make sure to take Yoru to either Sage or Skye, those wounds can be serious if not treated properly” KAY/O recommended from the front of the Vulture.
“Kiiljoy, could you pass me the first aid kit?”
“Sure, here it goes”
“Now, Yoru-san, allow me to treat your wounds”
“Back off, I need no help” Yoru complained
“Yoru stop acting so independent, there’s nothing wrong with some help”
Yoru stop refusing to receive treatment for his injuries. Gekko opened the kit and started cleaning blood traces with some cotton balls.
“Yoru, I’m rubbing the wounds with ethanol, so you’d better stay strong”
“HA, as if I were going to cry…”
As soon as Gekko spread the ethyl alcohol, Yoru grunted as a response to the pain. Gekko couldn’t help but start giggling. Yoru just blushed since his attempt of acting tough faded away from the pain.
“Hang on just a little longer, I’m just putting in some oxygenated water and I’ll be done” Gekko explained “Sana sana colita de rana, pum pum dolor deja a mi pinshesho" said Gekko as he applied the water.
“やめろ. Stop speaking in Spanish, I can’t understand what you’re saying” Yoru complained
“You don’t wanna know what I just said”
“Believe me, you don’t wanna know what he said, it’s too embarrassing” Killjoy said
“That should make you feel better until you get treatment from Sage or Skye.”
The team finally arrived at the HQ. Gekko and Yoru were waiting outside the target practice
“Thank you… Gekko for today. Maybe going on missions with someone isn’t that bad”
“Oh it was nothing Ryu-chan” Gekko teased Yoru.
“AH? Who told you that?” Yoru asked exalted
“Does it matter? Come one, wanna hug it out?”
To Gekko’s surprise, Yoru stood up and hugged Gekko as he thanked him for the day. Maybe it was because no one else was in that room from the HQ, perhaps Yoru started to open up to others this time. Gekko will never know until Yoru is able to confess how loved he felt that day. Despite the cold and freezing wind from S22, Yoru felt warm thanks to the sunshine’s company and worries about his well being.
