Work Text:
Dell was working late in his workshop, something that has been becoming very common. The Blu Spy had really gotten under Dell's skin. He needs to make his machines better. He needs to show that damn Spy he's not someone to mess with. Unfortunately, all this staying up late has been affecting his work on the battlefield, becoming very noticeable to everyone.
Jane peaked his head into Dell's workshop, frowning when he saw Dell still at his desk and looking like a mess.
"Stupid machine..." Dell growled smacking the machine with his wrench.
Jane walked over to Dell, getting close enough that he could see the bags under Dell's eyes, even with his goggles on.
"Dell," Jane said, in a slight yell.
Dell jumped, almost knocking over his machine. Dell grabbed it before it fell and looked up at Jane.
"Jane! What did I tell you about sneaking up on me!" Dell groaned.
"Sorry, I just want to check on you," Jane noted. "You've been in here since we finished dinner with the guys."
"Yeah, well I have a lot of work to get done," Dell said, looking back at his machine.
Jane frowned, crossing his arms. "Don't you think you should call it a night?" Jane spoke a bit softer. "You've been overworking a lot."
"What?" Dell paused.
"This has been nonstop, you need your rest," Jane explained. "You're gonna burn yourself out if you keep doing this every night and I would hate to see that happen."
Dell stared at Jane for a moment, he didn't say anything and it kind of made Jane a bit uncomfortable by the silence. Then out of nowhere, Dell smacked Jane with the wrench in his hand.
"OUCH!!! WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT FOR!!!" Jane yelled, holding his cheek.
"Shit... it really is you..." Dell put the wrench down and grabbed Jane's hand. "I'm sorry, I thought you were a Spy."
"Why would I be a Spy?!" Jane questioned.
"Well, you would never say I was working too much, hell you would usually be pushing me to improve my work," Dell explained. "What you said just sounded extremely off from who you are and I thought maybe you were the Blu Spy trying to get me to stop working, so I would be easy to beat."
"That... does sound like me... but it's not right now." Jane sighed. "I may push you to work hard but you can't perform well if you're exhausted. Plus... I hate seeing someone I care about push themselves too hard."
Dell sighed, holding Jane's hand a little tighter.
"But if I don't work he'll still be better than me..."
"Nonsense! That stinky French coward doesn't stand a chance against you, he's just gotten lucky!" Jane reassured him. "I bet on America that you will beat him tomorrow in battle!"
"Really?"
"Really really!" Jane smiled. "Now come to bed, that's an order!"
"Okay, let me just finish-" Before Dell could even touch a tool, Jane picked him up. "Jane! Put me down."
"I'm not putting you down until we're in our room." Jane simply said, carrying Dell out of the room.
Dell groaned but didn't fight it. It did take long before they were in their bedroom. Jane threw Dell on the bed.
"Ouch, really Jane..." Dell sighed.
"Sorry," Jane said. "You should get undressed. It would be uncomfortable to wear that to bed."
Dell nodded, sitting up to pull off his boots. It wasn't long before Dell had only a shirt and his boxers. Dell looked over at Jane, who was fully naked. Dell blushed, smiling a bit.
"Don't get any funny ideas, this is a sleep night, not a sexy time night," Jane said, laying down.
"I know, that doesn't mean I can't admire you a bit," Dell whispered, kissing Jane's cheek.
Jane smiled, wrapping his arms around Dell.
Dell sighed, resting his face on Jane's chest. "Thank you, Jane," Dell said.
"For what?" Jane asked.
"For being there for me and knocking some sense into me."
"Oh, you're welcome, cupcake!" Jane smiled. "I'm glad I could help, even if I got hit for it."
Dell laughed a bit, reaching up to touch Jane's now bruising cheek.
"I know, I'm sorry," Dell said. "Hopefully I didn't hurt you too much."
"It's okay, Medic can fix me up in the morning." Jane simply said. "Besides, this isn't the worst injury I've had. Remember I'm the one who broke his legs in three places because I jumped off the roof forgetting that I didn't have any more rockets to rocket jump."
Dell laughed a bit, Dell can remember Ludwig losing it and yelling at Jane for how stupid that situation was.
"Now, come on, let's get some sleep," Jane whispered. "I'll even let you sleep in for morning training."
"Oh I'm honored, Scout won't be happy about that." Dell smiled.
"I don't care what that manchild thinks!" Jane rolled his eyes.
Dell smiled, hugging Jane more tightly.
"I love you," Dell whispered, closing his eyes.
"I love you too, cupcake," Jane said.
It didn't take long before Dell and Jane fell asleep, holding each other close.
