Work Text:
A misunderstanding
In their business
Was as fatal as the things they fought against
So as such
It was imperative that they had the right information
Lockwood was usually the one who sensed
True from false
Even so
They always remained tensed
For it was still common
Resulting in deaths
But what else could they do?
Ever since Lucy had joined
Lockwood became more careful
Only letting her on in certain cases
Now he had someone to care for
Even then
Sometimes the misunderstandings
Were just between them
He has a habit of over planning
Since she arrived
But he also has a habit of cramming
Those plans in his sometimes forgetful brain
In the heat of the moment
He forgets which plan to use
And tells Lucy to do one
Making her all the more confused
Then of course
Who shows up
But Kipps’ crew?
Now what to do?
He had a plan
But was it number 5 or 22?
Number 5
He finally decides
And tells Lucy too
“To be clear”
Because she is smarter than her years
“You want me to use
A salt bomb and negotiate a truce?”
“No, that’s plan 6
I said 5
Now quickly because there’s not much time
To fix this”
They manage it somehow
And survive unscathed
Only sweat on their brow
And well behaved
As they converse with DEPRAC
Who arrived too late
Leaving them
To seal their own fate
A fate they avoided anyway
“Let’s just get home”
And they hail a cab
Finding George reading a tome
In his makeshift lab
Lockwood mutters something
An instruction misheard
And once again a misunderstanding
Has occurred
But not a fatal one
For it only means that
The two others are done
With his confusing instructions
And he has green tea with honey
Instead of black with sugar
It’s still better though
Than mistakes on the field
They finally agree
And so they let him go on
Without saying no
Because on the field
He always has a plan
And he’d die for them
Before seeing them dead at his hands
Perhaps a sentiment too strong
But work on one thing at a time
Which is why none of them comment
On a misunderstanding of feelings
For that’s a whole ‘nother round of dealing
With his healing
