Chapter Text
Night had fallen across Musutafu, Japan. While most of the city was asleep, many were still out enjoying the nightlife it had to offer. Most of the people stuck to traditional activities such as drinking, karaoke, but a few partook in illicit activities as well. That didn't apply to one young woman though. No, she had other plans, plans that made her feel free.
Flying through the night sky, Sasaki Amaya felt the cool night air flowing through her long dreads. Her black leathery wings spread wide as she soared through the inky blackness using the updrafts to stay aloft, her tail keeping her steady like the rudder on a plane. She loved the freeing feeling that flight offered her as she gazed down at the city's lights passing by beneath her.
In the air was where she felt most at home, the vast expanse of open sky offered her endless possibilities. The opportunity for her to just spread her wings and take off, regardless of her surroundings, was like a drug to her. The exhilaration she got as she dove to the ground only to open her wings right before impact was like nothing else on earth.
She smiled as the moonlight glinted off her fanged teeth. Banking to the right she flew out over Suruga Bay, swooping down low to the water. She reached a hand out and dragged it along the surface letting the cold ocean water run through her fingers. Taking one last breath of the salty ocean air, she lifted back up and made her way back over the city.
Flying lower than before, she landed on top of a skyscraper and made her way to the edge to sit down. Nights like this were where she was most at peace. Suddenly, the city's warning alarms started going off down below.
Jolting awake, Amaya sat straight up in her bed as she turned to her phone and glared at it before turning off the alarm. "Stupid phone, just once I wanna experience the whole dream." She thought to herself as she stretched out her arms and let out a deep yawn.
"Amaya, time to get up! You have to get ready for school!" Her mother shouted up the stairs at her.
"Yeah, I know Mom, I'm already awake!" She shouted back at her as she got out of bed. Opening her door, she made her way to her bathroom and looked in the mirror. Icy blue eyes met her gaze and stared back at her. They followed the trail of golden dots that arched across her forehead ending at points on her cheekbones. The same dots came down from the center of the arch ending in a fine point on her nose. The best way they'd been described to her was like they were little gold freckles. They were densely packed the closer it got to the center of the arch, as they reached the points, the concentration became a bit looser.
Her father had similar dots marking his face as well. Looking down at her hands, Amaya inspected the other part of her father's quirk. Her hands were filled with thousands of microscopic pores similar to sweat glands. Instead of sweat though, they released a clear, almost undetectable liquid that when flashed by the dots on her face, created implosions. The fluid only responded to specific wavelengths of light emitted by the dots on her face, so she couldn't activate her father's quirk and he couldn't activate hers as they both flashed different wavelengths of light.
When it first manifested, the dots had appeared on her face in her sleep. She had been holding her stuffed fox bat plushie when she saw the dots in the bathroom mirror. Naturally it had scared her, being a young child and all. What she didn't know was that in her sleep, her hands had secreted the fluid and her plushie absorbed most of it. Seeing the dots on her face scared her enough to flash a pulse of light and trigger the implosion. That was an extremely sad day for her watching her favorite stuffed animal implode into nothingness in her hands.
Her parents took her to the doctor after she screamed and came down the stairs in tears holding a tiny little stuffed bat's foot. It was all that remained of her favorite toy. After they ran what tests they needed to, they confirmed the obvious. Amaya had manifested her father's quirk as well. Obviously such a quirk could only be called Implosion, just like her dad's.
Smiling at how cool her quirk was, she looked at her fanged smile with the vertical strip of ivory white in the middle of her bottom lip. Her mom didn't have one, and neither did her dad. The doctors chalked it up to a minor mutation in the mutation quirk she inherited from her mother. Moving down her body with her visual inspection, Amaya spread her wings slightly to stretch them out after her sleep. Long, leathery, and as dark as her skin, her wings offered her a freedom nothing else could. Fully extended, they spanned eight and a half feet and propelled her through the air at speeds that matched the Wing Hero: Hawks if she really pushed herself.
The best description of her wings that she could manage was if someone had taken the wings of a bat, dragon, and a stereotypical demon and combined them all. On top of the wings, she also had a classic demon style tail that was prehensile and little bone white devil horns. Combine those with her wings and fangs, and she had a built-in Halloween costume every year. All of those were inherited from her mom's mutation quirk which the doctors in Japan decided to label as Devil. The biggest difference was her tail wasn't prehensile and her mom didn't have blue eyes, another mutation the doctors told them.
One of her favorite things to do with her appearance was to scare the people who treated her like an attraction. Between her incredibly dark complexion and her quirk, people often treated her like an oddity. Some guys even called her exotic to her face or they'd take pictures. That got them knocked on their sorry asses with a sweep of her tail taking their legs out.
Overall she knew her appearance could be somewhat intimidating, especially to little kids and superstitious people. It was the whole reason her grandparents had left South Sudan with her mother in tow. The people in their tribe began to view her mother as an omen of bad things to come as she got older. Rather than take the chance and risk her safety, her grandparents emigrated from South Sudan to Japan when her mom was seven, where they slowly settled into their new life.
The first day of high-school, her mother met her father and it was love at first sight, they bonded over the fact they were reading the same page of the same book. They became fast friends and had been inseparable ever since. Despite being half Japanese, all she inherited from her father was his quirk and his name, everything else was her mother's genetics. She was taller than the average Japanese person, standing at 5'11½". Her skin was as dark as the night sky on a moonless night. Except for the mutations in her quirk and her father's quirk, as well as being slightly shorter than her, Amaya was the spitting image of her mother.
Some people initially thought it was part of her mutation, which was fair with the advent of quirks and all. She was pretty sure she saw someone who was literally pink at the mall a few days ago. She always made sure she kindly corrected people and told them that her mom is from South Sudan and that her skin tone was just naturally a dark color, no quirk involved there.
She was proud of how she looked, she didn't think she was the most beautiful girl out there, but she was happy with herself. Even if little kids did scream that she was a demon and run away from her on occasion. She snickered at the thought as she removed her lip and nose rings as well as her plugs, as well as her belly button ring. Turning the shower on to let it warm up, she took off her pajamas and got in. Amaya stood there letting the warm water run in rivulets down her skin.
God the warmth felt so good. She hated leaving her nest pile of blankets whenever she woke up. If she had the choice, she'd burrow in deeper and never leave. She absolutely hated the cold. Grabbing her soap, she started scrubbing her body before rinsing off and putting on her towel. As she opened the bathroom door her mother called out, "Breakfast is ready when you are!"
She shouted back down the stairs, "Thanks Mom! Just gotta get dressed and then I'll be down!" Making her way back to her room, Amaya shut the door and dropped her towel before looking in the full body mirror on the back of it. While slender, she still had ample curves where it mattered, at least in her opinion. Her stomach was well toned, showing the barest definition of abs. Running her hands down her sides she felt her hips widen before her thighs began to taper. She looked over her shoulder, Definitely not flat back there. Thank you squats, she thought as she continued to look herself over. Her chest, while not the most ample, was still more than enough to fill her hands while she looked for anything abnormal. Overall she had a slight hourglass figure, but not overexaggerated like all those girls in the comics.
Content with her inspection and not seeing anything out of the ordinary, she headed over to her closet to grab her clothing for the day. Putting on her bra and underwear, she went to her jewelry box and picked out a new septum ring, nose ring, and lip ring. Moving her jewelry around she searched for what she wanted. "Ahh, there you guys are," she said as she pulled out one of her favorite pairs of earrings.
Gold may be one of her favorite colors, but emerald green was her true favorite. Putting on the pair of emerald green glass saddles lined with gold, she fiddled with them until the positions felt right. Looking down she started digging through another part of her box for a new belly button ring. Finding the one she was looking for, she put in a ring with a pale blue opal stone. She did have a couple other piercings elsewhere on her body, but those were a bit more private and not for anyone but her at the moment.
Making sure everything looked presentable, she grabbed her uniform and put it on. She grabbed her favorite perfume, a cashmere brown sugar scent, and sprayed it around. Heading downstairs she dropped her backpack on the floor next to her chair and plopped into it, looking across from her, she found the spot empty. "Dad had to leave early again?" She asked her mom while grabbing a piece of toast for her eggs and bacon.
Her mother finished pouring her coffee and sat down next to her daughter, "Unfortunately. Something about servers going down and network issues, I don't really know. He's always been the technical one."
Amaya chuckled briefly, "Honestly though, I'm still amazed you figured out your new phone as fast as you did."
Her mother jokingly glared over the top of her mug before changing the subject, "So, did you have any interesting dreams last night?"
Amaya shook her head, "Nah, just the one that never seems to finish where I'm flying over the city. It always feels like something is missing when I wake up, you know?"
Her mother grinned mischievously, "Maybe it's a boy you're missing. You know, I met your father around your age on the first day of high-school."
She shuddered, "Mom, gross, no. And yes, I know you met Dad the first day of high-school. You guys tell me every chance you get, and then you got married on Mt. Fuji and you flew him down in your arms. Besides, there aren't any boys at school that are my type. None of them are that cute either. Now if you'll excuse me, oh mother of mine, I must bid you adieu." Amaya curtsied sarcastically, much to her mother's amusement.
Amaya stood up from the table, grabbed a few more pieces of toast and shoved an apple in her mouth. She grabbed her bag and walked to the front door before turning back to her mom, "Goodbye, I luff you!" She grinned around the apple in her mouth before opening the door and slipping out. Her mom just grinned into her coffee and took a sip, content with how her life had turned out. How she was lucky to have such a vivacious happy daughter.
Closing the door behind her, Amaya put her earbuds in, hit play, and finally took a bite of the apple still in her mouth. Setting off for Aldera Junior High as No Sleep Tonight by The Faders hit her ears, she was ready to tackle the day. She felt like it was gonna be a good day, as she started dancing on her way to the train station, the song putting a little bump in her step.
Not one afraid to express herself, Amaya let the music flow through her. The beat shook in her hips and bounced through her feet as she walked. Her head bobbing along as she scrolled through her feeds looking for some "interesting" memes. The type of memes that frequently got her called a menace by her friends.
She giggled at the thought as the song changed and something a bit faster came on. Violet Skies by In This Moment started to play and she began to air drum along as bystanders looked at her with curiosity. Amaya didn't really care what they thought, she lived in the music. Continuing her air drumming, she began to headbang along to her favorite song as well. It was definitely turning out to be a good day so far.
Walking through the city park, Midorya Izuku felt the cool night breeze ruffling through his thick, curly hair. Sighing he looked up at the stars wondering what it would be like to fly amongst them. To feel the freedom from gravity's earthly constraints. Looking back down he continued along the path, listening to the trees swaying gently in the breeze.
The park was where he came to relax and escape his mind. There was something about the fresh air and the quietness at night that made everything stop for him. Finding his usual spot, a large rock beneath a tree, Izuku set down his bag against the rock. After making sure it was positioned right, he laid down, resting his head on it like a makeshift pillow.
Here was where he liked to watch the stars the most. The park was at the base of a hillside facing Suruga Bay with nothing else in front of it. The hill blocked a good portion of the light pollution allowing more of the vast expanse that is space to shine through the atmosphere. He could see satellites, shooting stars, he could see the Milky Way with his naked eye.
This was his safe space, where he came to breathe and draw. Izuku smiled as he pulled out a notebook, not his usual Hero Analysis series, this one was a stand-alone. Not even Izuku's mother knew about this notebook. It wasn't even a notebook technically, it was a sketchbook. Thumbing the pages, he opened it to the page he had marked. It contained the drawing of a beautiful young woman, her one leg was crossed over the other. She was leaning forward with her chin in her hands, her elbows resting on her crossed leg. She was staring right through the page at him, or rather she would be if he had been able to think of a face for her.
He wanted her eyes to be intense, but that was all he could think of for her. He came to the park to try and get inspiration, but it always escaped him. As he was thinking, trying to dream of a face for the faceless girl, he felt a large impact hit the ground near him. Looking away from his notebook, Izuku looked around curiously.
The bushes and trees to his left started rustling and creaking as some large, unknown figure stalked towards him. The figure slowly emerged from the bushes, twigs snapping beneath its feet. Gazing up at the being's shadowed face, Izuku recognized the twin tufts of hair sticking straight up. "All Might?" He asked the figure tentatively.
The figure leaned forward slowly revealing All Might's face from the shadows. His mouth opened slowly as he inhaled, his trademark smile never leaving his face. At the top of his lungs All Might shouted, "I AM HERE! I AM HERE! I AM HERE!"
A few miles away from Amaya's home, a green-haired teen awoke with a start and fell out of bed with a loud thud. He tiredly reached his hand above the threshold of his nightstand and hit the off button on his All Might alarm clock. "Ugh, why is this clock so loud?" Izuku wondered aloud to no one in particular. Untangling himself from his All Might themed sheets, he gathered them up and made his bed.
"Sweetheart," the concerned voice of his mother came through his door. "Are you okay? I heard a loud noise."
He sighed, rubbing the back of his head where he hit it, "Yeah mom, I'm fine. I just... fell." Unable to think of a lie, he had no option but the truth. Opening his door he made his way down the hallway to the kitchen. Soon, his nostrils were assaulted by wonderful smells. "Mmm, Mom, that smells good. What is it?"
Inko turned around, pan in hand, and placed its contents on their plates. "I thought I'd make some milk bread French toast topped with strawberries and powdered sugar." His mouth started watering, the breakfast was already a good start to the day. Inko smiled at her son's face as he sat down to eat.
Turning back around, Inko grabbed her tea kettle to boil some water. She turned the knob on the stove, only to be met with a lack of flames. Her nose wrinkled at the smell of the gas, testing the other burners, she got the same results. "Izuku, could you be a dear and light the stove for me? The igniters are on the fritz again."
Izuku looked up at her, his mouth stuffed with toast and strawberries like a squirrel hoarding nuts for the winter. He nodded, and held up a finger to indicate it'd be a moment. He finished chewing his food and swallowed, "Sorry, it was too good. I wanted to savor the moment." Inko smiled at the compliment as her son stood up and walked over to the stove.
Izuku turned one of the knobs to get the gas going. Getting the same results as Inko, he raised his hand and snapped his fingers. A small green flame no bigger than a candle appeared in the center of his palm. It hovered there briefly before dancing around on his palm and twirling up his index finger, stopping at the tip. Slowly, he moved his finger towards the burner he had turned on until the flame made contact with gas. Igniting with a small puff, Izuku shook his hand extinguishing his flame. "There you go Mom, all good to go."
She smiled at him as she set her kettle on the burner, "Thank you Izuku, dear. Why don't you go get ready for school? You don't want to be late now."
He nodded his head, "Yeah, you're right." Izuku briefly dashed back to the table to gulp down the rest of his orange juice before heading to the bathroom to shower. As he waited for the water to heat up, he flicked the flames on his palms to life. They were just little things, no bigger than a candle flame.
It wasn't the flashiest quirk, but at least he had one, even if it was small. When he was four his quirk decided to manifest as he was picking his nose, as most little kids do. The flame had danced around on the finger that had been occupying his nose at the time. Naturally he was burned and ran to his mother in tears. After Inko took him to the doctor to figure out what happened, the doctors discovered his quirk had manifested. The discovery was made shortly after he tried to imitate snapping from a cartoon character and accidentally ignited the sheets on the exam table.
After some more testing, it was determined that his quirk was a combination of both his parents' quirks. His father's ability to breathe fire, and his mother's ability to pull small objects towards her. They had merged and mutated, letting him generate and manipulate flames from his palms. He could even manipulate externally generated flames to a certain degree, but the ones he generated had the most control. Pyrokinesis they had named it.
As he grew older, he learned he could move the flames all over his body. If he moved them to his mouth, he could turn them into small puffs of flame. That was something he used in the winter to warm up his hands. Something his father apparently used to do as well according to his mom. The only downside was that as he got older, Izuku's flames never got any stronger. They served more as a convenience than anything. It wasn't easy learning they'd never get bigger, but he was still happy to have a quirk.
He smiled at the flames as he shook his hands extinguishing them. With the water finally warm he took a step in. Still thinking about his quirk and his dream, the thoughts crossing his mind as they had for years. He'd become a hero with this quirk, he didn't know how, but he would. Letting the water wet his thick curly hair, Izuku wondered how the day would really go as he shampooed his hair.
The breakfast was a good start, but no matter how good the day started, it usually ended badly. Bakugo was usually the cause of any negative things that happened to Izuku, but sometimes others were at fault too. The teachers never did anything to stop the bullying, in fact, they praised Bakugo solely because he had a powerful quirk. None of the other students stood up for him either. All because Bakugo decided when they were four that Izuku had a weak quirk.
The only friends he had quickly became Bakugo's cronies, leaving him alone, though he still chased after them. He wanted to be part of the group, but all they did was knock him down. Izuku had long since accepted his place in the world at the bottom, just someone with another weak useless quirk. Meanwhile, people like Bakugo were praised just because they had a powerful quirk. But he wasn't going to let his place in the pecking order prevent him from being the number one hero some day.
After cleaning his body and rinsing off all the soap, he got out and dried his hair. After drying the rest of himself, Izuku looked at his physique in the mirror. He wasn't overly thin, but by no means was he athletic. Something he should probably start working on if he wanted to attempt the UA entrance exam. He needed to look into bulking up a little and working on hand-to-hand combat. Flexing his right arm, he poked his bicep and sighed at the result. "Yeah, I definitely need to start working out. I can't even carry all the groceries in one trip." His chest and stomach were as flat as a countertop as well. Definitely not fit enough for hero work.
Keeping his towel wrapped around his waist, Izuku went back to his room to get dressed. He would have combed his hair, but he learned long ago that it was forever destined to be a wild, uncontrollable green forest. Grabbing his uniform he put it on, then he grabbed his tie and stared at it. If only I knew how to tie this thing. Tying a tie was another thing he gave up on years ago. It always looked bad regardless, so he stopped trying. Slipping it over his head, he adjusted it as best as he could.
Looking around Izuku found the last articles of clothing he needed, his favorite red high-tops. Slipping them on, he tied them before grabbing his book bag and his hero analysis notebook. Making his way out of his room, he headed to the front door. "All right Mom, I'm heading to school. Have a great day, I love you!" He kissed the top of her head as he grabbed an apple to eat along the way.
Inko looked up from the newspaper she was reading, "Have a great day sweetheart, I love you too." She smiled at him as he closed the door behind him. Inko sighed into her teacup letting the scent flow into her nostrils on her next breath. Life hadn't been easy for her since Hisashi walked out on her when she was three months pregnant with their child.
One day he just confessed to an affair out of the blue and told her he didn't love her anymore. She'd raised Izuku on her own since then with little to no help other than the child support needed to provide for her son, working doubles and sometimes triples at the hospital. She didn't have any family left and the only friend she had was Bakugo Mitsuki. Izuku and Mitsuki's son, Bakugo Katsuki, used to be extremely close when they were younger. Thankfully when she did have to work extended shifts, Mitsuki always used to let Izuku sleep over with his best friend. The boys may have grown apart a bit with age, but she and Mitsuki still regularly talked and on occasion met up to get food or coffee.
Inko wouldn't have her life any other way though, sure it had been tough at times, like when Izuku discovered his quirk wouldn't get more powerful. He had been depressed for a few weeks after that, convinced he'd never be a hero. No matter what she did, she couldn't break him out of his funk. Eventually he came out of it, his dream still intact but fragile. She supported him all the way, if anyone could become a hero, her Izuku could. She smiled into her tea, was her life perfect? No, but it was exactly where she wanted it to be.
Izuku turned away from the door and made his way down the stairs of their apartment building before heading off to the train station. Looking around himself to make sure no one was looking, he activated his quirk and spread the little flame thinly over the apple's ruby red flesh to heat it evenly. Cooking the apple in his hand, his mouth began to water. It was his favorite morning treat on his way to school, a nice warm apple.
Smiling as he extinguished the flame, he brought the warm fruit to his mouth. Blowing on it gently, he took a bite and sighed with content as some of the juices dribbled down his chin. Wiping them away, he put one of his earbuds in and hit play. The Middle by Jimmy Eats World came on and off he set with a positive beat in his step towards the train station.
Arriving at the station, Izuku got into a mostly empty car and sat near the back. He put in his other earbud and grabbed his notebook out of his bag to start adding some notes and drawings to a fight he saw yesterday. It had been a fight between Gang Orca and some villain calling himself Starservant, who preached about the end of the world.
Thankfully it was a short lived fight, Starservant had been floating through the air on balls of glass. As he pulled more from the buildings surrounding him, he began spouting off his apocalyptic ramblings. Once Gang Orca arrived on the scene, he used his hypersonic attack and directed it at Starservant. The attack paralyzed him temporarily and shattered the glass balls he had suspended in the air.
As Starservant fell, an obscene amount of branches shot through the air and snatched him. At the same time, more branches created cover to protect the bystanders from falling glass as Kamui Woods soared through the air on his branches. Izuku had been absolutely starstruck to have two of the top ten heroes in front of him. Naturally he was able to get their autographs for his book.
He smiled as he finished drawing Gang Orca next to his signature. His piercing eyes were always difficult for Izuku to draw. They looked ready to kill at a moment's notice, very little emotion behind them. He shuddered, thankful that Gang Orca was on the hero's side, he'd make a dangerous villain if he wasn't. Moving on from Gang Orca, he started on his drawing of Kamui Woods focusing on the intricate swirls of the wood in his mask.
As Wherever I May Roam by Metallica began to play, he smiled a little. The heavier the music, the better he found himself able to focus. The train set off for the next station after everyone finished boarding. So far, Izuku's day had been good. "Let's hope it continues," He thought as Kamui Woods' mask began to take shape.
Far above the planet Earth, past the International Space Station, a meteor the size of a large desk rocketed through space. The pale blue marble grew larger and larger as the meteor sped towards it. The clouds criss-crossed its surface as the giant orb spun, the blue occasionally interrupted by masses of brown and green. Caught in its orbit, the meteor could no longer escape and nature took its course.
Gravity dragged it down through the Earth's atmosphere superheating it. Chunks began to fly off and burn up in their descent while other parts of it melted. As the meteor descended it shrank from the size of a desk down to a marble. Finally nearing the ground, its journey was almost complete. A nice landing in the dirt at the park was in its near future.
A sudden gust of wind blew it off track and the little meteorite crashed through some tree branches breaking it apart even more. Now the size of a pea, it fell down onto the road only to get run over by a truck. The suction created by the vehicle passing over it kicked the now pebble up into the air. The car behind the truck struck the pebble, bouncing it off the windshield and shooting it right into the neck of an unsuspecting girl on her way to school.
"Ow! Motherfucker, why?!" Amaya yelled as she rubbed her neck where the sharp pain occurred. Today was not the good day she was hoping it would be. Shortly after she set out for school, some birds had stolen the toast right out of her hands. The amount of willpower it took for her not to implode those little bastards right then and there was extremely high.
Thankfully she still had her apple, that was until one of her shoelaces came undone. She ended up tripping, and while she didn't fall, her apple flew from her flailing arms into the street. Getting hit in the neck by whatever had hit her was almost the last straw. Thankfully she was nearly at the train station. The sooner she got to school, the sooner the day would end.
Arriving at the station, she found a car with a few people in it near the back of the train. A couple elderly ladies were chatting at the front about their knitting. A few college aged guys near them eyed her predatorily as she entered. An irritated flick of her tail and a quick flash of anger in her eyes told them all they needed to know as they looked away from her. Finally, at the back of the car was a green haired kid who looked to be about her age with his nose buried in a notebook and earbuds in his ears.
Picking a seat a little closer to the back, she sat down and relaxed letting her head fall back against the window. Shutting her eyes, her music continued to play, switching to some Frank Sinatra. Just the type of music she needed to calm down a little.
The rest of the train ride was uneventful, a couple stops being the only interruptions. Finally her stop arrived, as the train came to a stop she stood up only to get knocked on her butt.
She glared at the green haired boy who had run into her, "Hey, watch it!" She snarled, baring her fangs.
"S-Sorry, I didn't mean to." The green haired kid stammered as he scrambled to his knees. He grabbed around wildly in an attempt to grab his papers and run. Amaya switched to sitting on her knees and attempted to help him gather his things. She grabbed a notebook and was immediately stopped by its contents as it flapped open.
There were drawings in there so detailed that they looked like black and white photos. Next to the drawings were some words in very neat handwriting. As she read, she realized they were notes about heroes and the fights they had, a detailed analysis with visuals. "Hey listen, I'm sorry." She began, "I didn't mean to snap at you like that. This notebook is actually rea-"
She was cut off as the boy snatched the notebook from her. His verdant green eyes met her icy blue ones for a split second. In those eyes all she could see was fear. Fear of her, fear of the whole situation. "S-Sorry again." He mumbled, trembling as he stood up. Stuffing his papers in his bag, he ran out the train doors without a second glance at her.
Now she just felt terrible, the poor guy looked like he was on the verge of tears. She didn't exactly blame him though, she did snap at him pretty hard. There was one positive though, she was pretty sure he went to her school. His uniform looked identical to hers, minus the skirt of course. Sure there were tons of people at Aldera, but she was pretty sure she'd never seen someone with hair and eyes like his. She'd find him and apologize to him later that day.
After reassuring herself, she stood up, brushed off her legs and the back of her skirt. Making sure she herself had everything, she exited the station and turned towards the gates of her school. Searching for that wild green hair, she set off. She didn't see him, but his eyes were still burning in the back of her mind. Her favorite color, how had she never seen him before?
The train slowed as it came to a stop, Izuku stood up and started walking towards the nearest door. As the train came to a full stop it jerked slightly making him fall face first into another passenger. They both fell backwards on their rears as Izuku's bag emptied its contents across the floor.
"Hey, watch it!" The girl snarled at him and bared her fangs as her pale blue eyes pierced his own with their anger."
"S-Sorry, I didn't mean to." Izuku stuttered as he scrambled to grab his things. He didn't want to be late and get stuck on the train. He also didn't want to be around this angry girl any more than he had to. She looked ready to yell at him again as he tried to grab his things.
"Hey listen, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to snap at you like that. This notebook is actually rea-"
Izuku's heart stopped, he looked up at her again, meeting her intense eyes. In her hands was his Hero Analysis notebook. Oh no, she'll just laugh if she looks through more of it. Izuku snatched the notebook from her before she could blink, his eyes lingering on hers for a moment longer. "S-Sorry again," he mumbled, shaking slightly as he stood.
Izuku stuffed everything in his bag and ducked out of the train car as fast as he could. With his heart racing, Izuku ran down the street to the school gates. Finding his locker, he put his things away and swiftly walked to his classroom. Thankful to be the first one there, he sat at his desk and took deep breaths to calm down. He should've known to hold on when the train stopped but no, he had to forget and fall into someone.
In all honesty, Izuku didn't blame her for getting mad at him. He was just in the way like always was, always in everyone's way. It was his fault anyway, he should've just stayed seated. Sighing, he opened his bag to his disarray of papers trying to forget the incident and put it behind him. But there was one thing he couldn't forget, her eyes. The icy blue gaze that peered deep into his soul. How had he never seen her before?
Double checking everything, Izuku sighed with relief as he realized all the bag's contents were there. He was glad he snatched the notebook when he did. The last thing he needed was another person teasing him for chasing his dream like Bakugo did. While he didn't know the girl specifically, there was no mistaking the uniform she was wearing. She definitely attended Aldera as well.
Great, just one more person for him to avoid. Then again, it was nothing new. After all, he'd been doing it since he was four. Blending into the background to hide. He was just the side character in someone else's life. Slowly more students started to trickle in, ready to start the day. Bakugo and his crew entered the room just before the final bell rang. Flinching reflexively as he passed, Izuku was pleasantly surprised Bakugo didn't say anything to him as he walked past to his desk. A rare occurrence, but a welcome one, after all, any peace was a welcome peace.
Class was uneventful for the first time in a long time. The teacher droned on about science, math, and English while he took notes studiously. None of the other students bothered him, nor did the teacher. After what seemed like an eternity listening to the teacher's dull voice, the lunch bell rang. "Alright class, after lunch we'll be taking our English quiz, so make sure you're focused and ready when we come back." The teacher dismissed them with little enthusiasm.
Grabbing his book bag, Izuku quietly made his way to the lunch room. Staying near the back of the crowd to not draw any attention, he wondered what they were serving today. He could kill for some katsudon, but no one's compared to his mother's.
Winding through the school's halls, the class merged with a larger crowd of students. Those who brought their lunches went and grabbed tables, saving seats for their friends. The rest hopped in line and waited for food. Izuku let his eyes wander over his fellow students as he waited. He liked seeing what quirks they had if they were visible.
With his eyes wandering, they fell upon a pair of black wings. Hey wait, those look kind of familiar. He thought as the line moved on. He felt his tray shift as the lunch worker dished him up. He continued to move down the line, focusing on the wings, trying to remember where he'd seen them before.
The only person with a flight quirk he knew of was Tsubasa, but he hadn't seen him in years. Besides, Tsubasa's wings were red and resembled dragon wings. These ones were jet black and were leathery like a bat's and slightly dragonish? He wasn't totally sure. Plus, Tsubasa never had a pointed black tail that swished around behind him either.
The person turned around and Izuku was met with those pale blue eyes once again. Yelping out of habit, he ducked out of the lunchroom before she saw him and ran to the roof. Setting down his tray and book bag, he sat down and leaned back against the wall. "Why did it have to be that mean girl? Who am I kidding, of course it was going to be her. I have literally the worst luck." At least he always ate lunch up here, he'd just have to avoid her until she forgot about him.
He sighed and grabbed his sketchbook. Taking a bite of food, he opened his book and stared out at the city's skyline before him. The drawing he decided to work on was a long project he had started at the beginning of the year.
He had divided up the page into 12 different vertical sections. One week in the middle of each month, he would draw a section of the scene in front of him as he saw it for that week. From January, to December, each section was being filled in, showing the city as the year changed.
Nearly halfway through the year and he was pleased with his progress so far. Watching the drawing change from a snow covered cityscape to one blooming with plant life was his favorite. Maybe one day he'd be brave enough to share his drawings with people. He smiled as he took another bite and continued drawing the city throughout the lunch break.
After walking through the school gates, Amaya walked to her locker. Finding her friends waiting for her, she greeted them cheerily, "Hey Chiyo, Kaori, how goes it?"
"Hey Amaya." They replied in unison as she put her things away.
"It's going pretty good today for me. Chiyo and I were just talking about how she should handle Makoto." Kaori replied first.
Amaya rolled her eyes at the mention of his name. "Now what's that slimeball doing to you Chiyo?"
"I caught him looking at another girl again while we were on a date. Honestly I'm thinking of breaking things off with him."
Kaori nodded, "And while I agree with that, I feel like you should humiliate him a little bit too. I mean he's been doing this for how long now?"
"Yeah, see, he does kinda deserve it." Amaya agreed with Kaori, "I mean it's far less than I'd do if I was getting jerked around like that."
Chiyo sighed in frustration, "Why are boys so stupid?"
The other two girls shrugged as Amaya finished putting her things away. The girls began walking to class before Amaya spoke up again. "Hey, speaking of boys, do either of you know a green haired guy? He's around your height, Kaori. He bumped into me on the train and I kinda snapped at him, I wanted to apologize. He looked like I had just threatened to kill him, he was nearly in tears."
The two girls thought for a moment before Kaori asked, "Hey Chiyo, do you think she's talking about Deku?"
"Oooo that could be! Amaya, was his hair wild like that Einstein guy?"
Amaya nodded vigorously, "Yes! With eyes this color?" She asked, pointing at her ear saddles.
Chiyo nodded, "Oh, yeah, that's definitely Deku all right."
"Useless? Why do you keep calling him useless, is that his name?" She asked her friends, dodging other students in the hallway.
Chiyo shook her head, "No, no, it's not useless. It's just what everyone calls him. I've never heard him called anything else."
Amaya's face scrunched up at that, "That's a really shitty thing to call someone. Why not use his actual name?" Arriving at their classroom, they sat in their desks and turned to each other to continue their conversation.
Kaori answered her this time with a shrug, "We don't know it, I've even heard the teachers calling him Deku. I think the only one who knows his real name is that hothead Bakugo in 3F. But from what I understand, he's the one who started calling him Deku in the first place, so I doubt he'd tell you."
Amaya sighed in frustration at the lack of answers. "Whatever, just... can you not call him that anymore? It's not cool to do that to someone. The fact that teachers do nothing to stop it and even join in makes it worse."
"Well, what are we supposed to call him then?" Kaori asked.
"I don't know, just not that. You guys know how I feel about treating people poorly. You know how my mom was treated as a kid. That stuff can be damaging."
"Yeah, you're right," Kaori conceded. "Maybe we can call him Einstein till you figure it out? You know, cause of the hair."
Chiyo nodded, "I second Einstein because I've also heard he's wickedly smart."
Amaya smirked at her friend, "You seem to hear a lot of things Chiyo. Maybe you should use your ears to do better in math." Chiyo threw her eraser at Amaya's head while she stuck out her tongue and laughed. Kaori sat there laughing at their antics as the rest of the class filed in.
With the bell ringing the teacher spoke up, "Now now girls, quiet down. There's plenty of time for you to horse around later. Today we'll be reviewing our scores from yesterday's math test," Chiyo''s head hit her desk with a thud and a groan. The teacher grinned and continued, "We'll also be watching a documentary on volcanoes and how they sustain the cycle of life. After lunch we'll be starting our biology unit and we'll start growing baby chicks without the egg. That will be our long term focus for a while in biology so be prepared for that."
The class responded with intrigue and excitement. Finishing up the notes and schedule for the day, Amaya's teacher began handing out the math test from the day before. "Sasaki, once again, you got a perfect score, the highest in the class, well done."
She smiled, pleased with her perfect score, "Thank you, Sir." After they finished reviewing the tests and going over any questions the class had, the teacher put on the volcano documentary. As the narrator's voice droned on, Amaya zoned out. She tried to take notes, but her mind just wasn't in it today.
Amaya was distracted by how the day had gone. After learning that Einstein had been bullied pretty much daily by everyone, she really didn't blame him for his reaction to her. She thought about his eyes again, not the color this time though, the look. They were filled with fear, like he was expecting retribution for his accident.
Shaking her head to clear the thoughts, she glanced at her friends. Chiyo was asleep, drooling on her desk, and Kaori was barely keeping her eyelids open. Poking Kaori, she pointed at Chiyo behind her. Kaori giggled as Amaya pulled out her phone and snapped a picture of her sleeping friend.
Giggling and now awake more, the two girls focused on the documentary until the bell rang. Chiyo was still out cold when the girls were ready to head to lunch. That is until Amaya dropped some books on her desk. Snorting and jerking awake, Chiyo looked around. "Wuz happenin? Who goez zhere?"
"Chiyo you dork, wake up. It's time for lunch and you're drooling." Amaya poked her friend's forehead. Blinking her eyes a few more times, Amaya's words seemed to sink in.
"Please tell me no one saw me drooling." She pleaded with the other two.
"No, but Amaya's phone saw plenty." Kaori replied with a devilish grin.
Scrambling after them as they walked out, Chiyo begged and pleaded with Amaya to delete the pictures. "Relax Chiyo, they're for our meme group only. No one else is gonna see them." Amaya patted her friend's head to placate her.
"I really hate you guys sometimes."
"Oh you love us and you know it," Kaori teased back.
Following the crowd to the lunchroom, the girls grabbed their food and started looking around for a table. While they were looking, Amaya kept her eyes peeled for that telltale green hair. Suddenly a loud yelp followed by the sound of a small commotion filled the room. Looking around for the source of the noise, she and her friends didn't see what caused it other than a few people looking towards one of the doors.
Finding some spots for them, Amaya and her friends sat down and started to eat. While her friends were gossiping about what they knew, Amaya wondered where Einstein could be. He was the only person with green hair here. How hard could he be to find, it's not like he could hide forever, right?

Chapter Text
"Oh my God, I'm so full." Chiyo belched, tilting her head back as she rubbed her stomach.
"Well, Chiyo, if you weren't such a glutton, you'd feel better." Kaori replied as she poked her friend's gently bulging stomach.
"Yeah Chiyo, what Kaori said." Amaya chimed in.
Kaori turned her head and just glared at Amaya as she too rubbed her stomach and groaned. "You're just as bad, Amaya! I thought you two wanted to apply to UA's Hero Course? I just watched you both eat three whole burgers. You guys can't eat like that if you want to go there, you won't be able to stay fit."
Chiyo just belched again as Amaya replied, "Listen, Kaori, I don't think you understand just how delicious American style cheeseburgers are."
"Amaya… they're dripping with grease."
Chiyo groaned, "But, Kaori, that's why they're so delicious."
"You two are hopeless." Kaori pinched the bridge of her nose.
Amaya and Chiyo just laughed as Kaori mumbled something about not eating cows because they're cute. The girls had finished their lunch and were now talking about how to best handle the Makoto situation. "Listen, I say you just dump him super publicly, call him out, dump a drink on his head, something like that." Amaya shared her idea with the group.
Kaori spoke up as she finished writing down Amaya's idea, "All right, we've got a public breakup and small genitalia rumor from Amaya, what about you, Chiyo?"
"You know that that's not what I said, Kaori."
"I know, but unlike you, Amaya, I am pure of heart."
Chiyo snorted and started laughing, "We've seen your diary, Kaori, there's more smut in there than most adult bookstores."
Kaori immediately turned as red as her grey-lavender skin would allow her to. "Sh-Shut up!" Trying to change the subject, Kaori pointed out, "Hey, Amaya, look. It's that Bakugo guy who knows Einstein."
Whipping her head around, Amaya looked at where Kaori was pointing and saw an angry looking boy with spiky blond hair. Turning back to her friends she looked at them, "Do you think he'd answer my question?"
Chiyo and Kaori shrugged while Chiyo spoke up, "I mean you can try, but look at him. He even looks like a dick." Kaori nodded in silent agreement with her shorter friend.
"Oh, come on, he can't be that bad, can he?" Amaya asked the two as she stood up and made her way over to him. Chiyo and Kaori glanced at each other.
"He's going to rip her head off, isn't he?" Kairo asked.
"Mhm," Chiyo hummed in response.
Weaving her way through the crowded lunchroom, Amaya found a clear path and closed in on her target. "Excuse me, Bakugo?"
The angry blonde turned and raised his eyes to meet hers, "Yeah? What do you want extra?"
At a loss for words from the look in his eyes and his attitude, Amaya stuttered in surprise, "I-I was wondering if you'd be able to tell me your green haired friend's name? I wanted to apologize to him for earlier whe-"
Bakugo cut her off, "That fucking loser Deku isn't my friend. As for your apologies, save 'em. Whatever you did to that stupid nerd, he probably deserved it." Bakugo turned back to his friends who were laughing at her and walked away with his hands casually in his pockets, his friends in tow.
Holy shit, what a fucking asshole. Amaya thought as she stood there stunned. She turned around and made her way back to her friends who were just standing up for the bell to head back to class. That attitude and response was completely unwarranted on his part. I don't think I did anything wrong.
"So, how'd it go?" Kaori interrupted her thoughts, a knowing tone in her voice.
"Tell me why I saw Chiyo hand you ¥2000 and I'll tell you."
Kaori inspected her fingernails as the group started making their way back to class. "She owed me money for snacks, isn't that right, Chiyo?"
Chiyo nodded cheerfully, "Yep! We didn't bet at all, I pinky promise."
Kaori sighed, "Chiyo, that's not how this works, we went over it. You're just supposed to agree and say nothing else."
Chiyo giggled, "Oops."
"Listen, if you're betting on me, fine, but I want in on it then."
"No way, that's cheating!" Chiyo protested.
"Yeah, you'll know the outcome before it happens." Kaori agreed.
"Oh please, you guys really think that I think that far in advance? I decided I wanted my septum and ears pierced after I stuffed myself with Indian food on two separate occasions like three years apart. I did the same thing with my lip and belly button after I had Mexican a few months ago."
The other two looked at each other, then Amaya and replied in sync, "Still a no."
"Kaori, don't make me start an intervention for your gambling again, I'll do it." Amaya joked before the girls all burst out laughing again. Walking through the door to their classroom, Amaya finally answered Kaori, "So, anyway, that thing with Bakugo. It uh… it didn't go well."
"I mean we kind of told you,” Kaori said. “What happened?"
"Well first of all he called me an extra, called Einstein a 'fucking loser', called him Deku, didn't even answer my question, and then walked away as if I wasn’t worth his time. Literally a shit attitude from the moment he turned around." Amaya was counting the fingers on her hand as she listed off everything that went wrong with her interaction.
Chiyo shrugged, "I mean we did warn you he probably wouldn't help."
"Yeah, I know, but I still had to try." Amaya replied as the girls all went to sit at their desks.
"That's all you can do, Maya, is at least try." Chiyo said as she patted her friend's back before sitting behind Kaori.
"Thanks for humoring me, guys, I don't know why I feel so bothered by this."
Kaori replied, "It's because you're a good person hun." Chiyo smiled and nodded vigorously in agreement.
"Thanks guys, I love you both." Amaya smiled back at them. "Now, let's get ready to grow a baby chick without an eggshell. I'm so pumped for this, science is awesome!"
Their teacher walked back into the classroom, "That's the spirit, Sasaki! Now, who else is ready to grow their own baby chicken!" The class cheered in excitement. Amaya could already see Kaori drawing little outfits to make for the chick when it 'hatched'. She turned to look at Chiyo only to see her looking at fried chicken recipes on her phone and salivating.
Yeah, that pretty much summed up her friends with Amaya herself falling somewhere between the two personality wise. It all worked out in the end though. Kaori was typically the calm and rational one, Chiyo was a bit bubblier and more unpredictable, with Amaya being a little bit of both as well as her own thing.
She'd been friends with Kaori since they were both three, Amaya and her parents had moved in next door to them, and the rest was history. Amaya and Kaori both met Chiyo at the park five years later when they were eight and Chiyo was seven. She smiled as she let herself relive that particular memory.
Amaya had asked her parents if she could go to the park with Kaori that day. Her mother and father both agreed but wanted to come too since they hadn't talked with Kaori's parents in a while. After everyone was all ready, they walked out to meet Kaori and her parents.
Amaya and Kaori immediately started running and chasing each other around, yelling and playing as their parents walked behind them. "You two be careful now!" Kaori's father shouted after the rambunctious girls.
"We will!" They shouted back, still giggling as they played.
After about a 10-minute walk where Kaori somehow ended up on Amaya's shoulders, they reached the park. Kashi Park was unique for Musutafu in that it sat at the base of a hillside facing Suruga Bay. The park had a wide sandy beach that extended out into the ocean so people could relax and swim. It also had a large sprawling grassy area with plenty of trees for shade and soft places to sit.
The park had a long winding bike path, swings, a playground, and basketball courts. It was a place that catered to almost everyone. You could relax, you could exercise, you could play, your imagination was the limit. There was a reason it was the most popular park in Musutafu.
"Maya, put me down! Let's go see who can swing the highest, and no using your wings this time!" Kaori poked Amaya's cheek before she put her down.
She stuck out her tongue in protest, "That was one time, Ori. Besides, the last one there is a rotten egg!" Amaya shouted as the two took off again, running through the trees and dodging people. Leaving their parents to do parent things, the girls were dead set on staying at the park as long as they could get away with.
As they were chasing each other through the trees, the two heard laughter followed by crying and sniffling.
"Look at her hair, it's tentacles! That's so gross," one voice said.
"Eww look, they're growing." Another voice exclaimed in disgust.
"Guys look," a third voice laughed. "She's drooling ink like an octopus too!"
Suddenly, the crying got louder as whoever was holding it back, let loose. Amaya and Kaori immediately started running towards the commotion. When they arrived, the sight they came upon made Amaya see red. In front of them was a group of three boys standing in front of what looked like a small pile of purple and pink tentacles with two white puffballs on top.
They were grouped around this mass of tentacles that was huddled at the base of a tree crying and sniffling. Amaya was about to run up behind them and kick them between their legs when Kaori stopped her. She pointed at one of the boy's hands and smirked. Amaya followed her friend's finger and saw a toy samurai with a rather long sword on its back.
Amaya looked at Kaori and nodded in agreement at the silent plan her friend had concocted. Kaori activated her quirk turning her deep lilac eyes to a pale milky white. She reached out with her quirk and took control of the little toy's electronics. The toy samurai rapidly began beating its fists on the boy's hand.
The boy let out a surprised yelp and dropped the little samurai to the ground. The group of boys proceeded to watch in awe as the toy stood up and brushed its legs off. They watched the diminutive samurai look around at them before it slowly removed the sword from its back. Taking a fighting stance, the toy started swinging and jabbing its sword at the shins of the three boys.
The boys, still being children, naturally panicked and quickly forgot that the sword was plastic. They ran away yelling and screaming as Kaori made the toy chase after them for about 100 feet before her quirk reached its limit and the toy fell over. Amaya and Kaori snickered quietly before they made their way over to the sniffling pile of tentacles.
Amaya sat down next to the tentacles and said gently, "Hey, it's okay now. Those stupid boys are gone, we scared them away." She watched as a pair of hands reached up and slowly parted the tentacles in front of their owner’s face.
The girl sniffled as a pair of bright yellow eyes with rectangular pupils met Amaya's own eyes. "A-Are you sure?" She whimpered out as the tentacle growth visibly slowed. Her eyes darted around searching for any hint of her tormentors. Twin trails of black ink ran down the corners of her mouth.
"Yeah, I used my quirk on one of their toys and made it chase after them with its sword. They ran crying like babies." Kaori replied as she sat down cross legged next to Amaya. "Why were they bothering you anyway?"
The girl relaxed a little bit not sensing any hostile intentions from them. She moved to sit so she could hug her knees; her tentacles had halted their growth completely. "I don't have any friends. My family just moved here so I don't know anyone yet and I'm not good at making friends. They saw me sitting alone and came over, when they saw my antennae and started making fun of me.
"When people are like that and I get scared, my tentacles start to grow, and I can't stop them until I'm okay again. They don’t go back in either, so I have to get them cut. They made fun of me for being alone and my tentacles started to grow. After they saw that, they wanted to see how long they could make them grow…"
"Forget about them, we'll be your friends!" Amaya exclaimed proudly, "I'm Sasaki Amaya, and this is Morimoto Kaori." She gestured at Kaori who smiled softly and waved in response.
The girl sniffled again, and a small smile appeared, "I'd like that, my name is Kikuchi Chiyo. It's nice to meet you guys."
After Chiyo had calmed down a little more, the three girls stood up and made their way back to Amaya and Kaori's parents. The whole time they were walking back, the girls were telling stories about their lives and getting to know each other. Kaori had decided to pick up a few of Chiyo’s tentacles to carry for her so she didn't have to deal with all the extra weight herself.
“Hey, so I saw them growing when those boys were mean to you, can your tentacles do anything else?” Amaya asked Chiyo while she gathered up the rest of them.
Chiyo nodded her head, “Yeah, I can move them around but not when they’re this long. I don’t have the strength yet, but I can wiggle the ends right now though.” She wiggled the tips to prove her point, hitting Kaori in the mouth in the process.
“Pffftt thhh pttuu,” Kaori spat as she tried to get the taste of octopus out of her mouth. She dropped Chiyo’s tentacles and instinctively tried to wipe her tongue off before realizing her hands were covered in Chiyo’s tentacle mucus. “Ewwwwww!” Kaori squealed while Amaya dropped the rest of the tentacles and fell down laughing. Chiyo stood there looking scared again like she was about to get yelled at by Kaori.
“I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to. Please don’t be mad at me…”
“Euuuuugggg,” Kaori wretched.
After she finally was able to catch her breath, Amaya eased Chiyo’s concerns. “Don’t worry, she just doesn’t eat meat or seafood. That’s why she’s reacting that way, she’ll be fine after she gets rid of the taste. It’s okay, accidents happen.”
“Don’t worry, Chiyo, I’m fine. Bleerghh. I just can’t stand the taste of meat and seafood; it makes me nauseous. I'll be okay, I promise. Like Amaya said, it was an accident.”
After reassuring Chiyo that Kaori wouldn’t hate her, the three eventually made their way back to their parents after searching near the park’s entrance.
After getting back to their parents, Amaya and Kaori explained the situation to them and helped Chiyo find her parents. Chiyo's parents were very grateful to Amaya and Kaori for helping out their daughter with the bullies. They also corroborated that it had been an issue for Chiyo since they moved to the area, at which point Amaya and Kaori both promised to protect her in the future.
After their parents had met, and Chiyo got cleaned up and her tentacles trimmed by her mother, Amaya asked her parents if she could have a sleepover with Kaori and Chiyo. Chiyo's parents were so overjoyed that she'd already made friends; they agreed immediately and exchanged information with the other parents. Kaori's parents agreed since she and Amaya had been having sleepovers for years at that point already.
From that day on, the three of them had been practically inseparable. Sleepovers still happened to this day with the host home changing each time. They were almost like the Three Musketeers, all that was missing were the French accents.
Amaya smiled at the memory of making a new friend. Chiyo was just as smart as her and Kaori, but there were some things she was extremely oblivious to. Things were fine when they were younger, but when puberty hit them all, it hit Chiyo like a train and she had one hell of a glow up. She and Kaori often had to watch Chiyo's back so she wouldn't get taken advantage of by boys.
Snapping back to reality (ope there goes gravity), Amaya tuned in to what their teacher was saying. "Now what we'll be doing exactly is we will be taking unfertilized chicken eggs, cracking them into cups, fertilizing them with syringes, and watching them grow while they are in incubators containing groups of four. We will label our eggs, and each day we will look at our embryos under the incubators. You'll draw what you see to the best of your ability and label the drawing anatomically.
"We will be doing this for the next 21 days until the chicks hatch. We'll take care of them for the next 18 weeks until they are considered mature. After that you are either free to take your chicken home and do what you want with them, or you have the option of sending them to permanently live on a farm where they will live the rest of their days naturally and receive their eggs free of charge whenever you want them."
I know Dad would totally let me keep a chicken, Mom is the real obstacle here. Amaya thought to herself as the teacher droned on about sterilizing the tools they'd be using and following the process to the letter. We could totally put a chicken in the backyard. I'd build it this super awesome little chicken coop. Yeah, I'll get Dad on board and then we'll hide it somehow until the coop is built.
"Remember class, you will have to sign a permission slip to take your chicks home when we raise them. Otherwise, they will have to remain here. The slips will include details on items needed to properly care for the chicks at home. Once they reach a certain size, they will come back here and live out back near the gardens.
"We will be visiting them once a day to help feed them and check their health. While there, you’ll note the changes your chicken has gone through if any have occurred. Our long-term goal is to chart the chicken's life from conception to maturity, any questions?"
Most of the hands in the classroom shot up, hers included. Of course she had questions, the only thing cooler than stuff like this was space and that wasn't the topic at hand. The teacher chuckled at the number of hands in the air.
"All right, all right, I'll answer everyone's questions, after that we will be watching a video of this being performed. Finally, we will be going over the procedures in class today. I'll have you study them overnight, and we'll go over them once more tomorrow and answer any remaining questions then. Tomorrow we will be starting our little journey. Congratulations on beginning the journey of motherhood."
A good portion of the boys in Amaya's class groaned. She grinned letting the thought briefly cross her mind. Maybe someday, but boys were the last thing on her mind right now. She had to stick to her training routine as much as possible.
Ten months. She had 10 months to finish getting her body into the shape needed to ace UA's entrance exam. She and Chiyo had been training for a couple months already, she had noticed her stomach and glutes getting tighter, but so far that was it. She needed to work on building some muscle, gotta get a six pack that would make the boys in her class envious.
She smirked at the thought of Makoto shrinking at the site of a ripped Chiyo. Turning to her friend, Amaya whispered, "Hey, Chiyo."
Chiyo turned to face her, "What?"
"We gotta train more for the entrance exam. I lost weight, but now I need to gain some muscle, you know?"
Chiyo nodded, "Yeah I don't think I'm going to lose any more inches either." She looked down at her stomach and poked it a little. "No more flab here, you're lucky you don't have to train for the support course, Kaori."
Kaori turned and glared at Chiyo, "Oh I don't have to train do I? I don't sit there and learn every intimate detail of schematics for common designs. I don't have to learn how electricity works to avoid electrocuting myself or others. I don't have to learn coding to make sure items work correctly when I turn them on."
"....Sorry."
Kaori sighed, "You're fine, Chiyo, I just have to train myself differently than you is all."
The girls were interrupted by the sound of a clearing throat. "Excuse me girls, can we proceed with the class please?" The three of them snapped to attention facing forward in their seats.
Collectively the girls replied, "Yes, Sir."
Their teacher smiled, "Thank you. Now, let's continue with questions, shall we?" The day continued on with questions and everything else the students needed to know to grow their baby chickens. Just as their teacher was about to answer another question about the procedures, the bell rang signifying an end to their day.
"All right class, please study the handouts I passed around earlier. We'll go over any remaining questions tomorrow after we review the procedures together. Please clean up before you leave and have a good night."
As the teacher left the room Amaya sighed, "Finally, the day is over. I can't wait to go home and relax; it's been such a weird day." The girls stood up and started cleaning their desks and the area around them. "What do you two have planned for tonight?" She asked her friends as she wiped her desk down.
"I don't really have any plans other than homework later, how about you, Chiyo?" Kaori asked.
"I was going to try and do my math later since that needs to come up."
Kaori hummed in thought, "You guys want to go to the mall? We can get some bubble tea and help each other study. I need someone to quiz me on Nikola Tesla and cold fusion. Fuck Edison."
"Fuck Edison," the other two replied simultaneously.
"I'm down, just have to text Mom and Dad, let them know I'll be home a bit later." Amaya replied.
"Same." Chiyo agreed.
"Perfect, now let's finish cleaning, I want tea." Kaori said.
The students finished cleaning up the classroom and started making their way to their lockers. Passing by the club rooms the girls talked as they heard the other students enjoying their after school activities. They talked about their days, about food, boys, and school. They passed by Makoto in the hall and Amaya and Kaori got rid of him with a glare before he could even talk to Chiyo.
Chiyo spoke up, "So, Kaori, since my boy problems have been the topic all day, tell us what's going on in your love life."
Amaya chimed in, "Yeah! Why are we always the ones getting bothered about boys? You're awfully quiet about that topic over there."
Kaori shrugged, "I don't know what to tell you. I don't like any of the boys here. They're not attractive, and a lot of them are dumb."
At that moment, the girls were stopped as Bakugo Katsuki stepped out of the classroom in front of them laughing with his friends. "I still can't believe he hasn't given up on that stupid dream of his," one boy said.
Another replied, "It's amazing how he thinks he can still be a hero with a weak quirk like that."
“Yeah,” Bakugo started. “He’s a pathetic loser.”
The group of boys walked away down the hall and the girls continued on passing by the room the boys had exited. "Case and point." Kaori gestured at the group of boys in front of them. "If you sit there and talk about someone like that, you're dumb as hell."
Amaya whipped her head around suddenly. "What's wrong, Amaya?" Chiyo asked.
Not seeing anything she replied, "Nothing, I thought I heard someone crying just now but there's no one there. Anyway, back to Kaori and dumb boys."
"Guys, I'm not interested in any boys here. If you try to set me up with someone again, I'll turn your phones into useless pieces of industrial slag."
"Chiyo, I love you, but my phone is my safety blanket. I'm tappin' out." Amaya replied, holding up her hands in defeat.
"Yeah, I think I'm going to tap out too." Chiyo said as she hugged her phone.
"All I had to do was threaten your phones and you would've stopped?" Kaori asked as
Amaya and Chiyo nodded in a silent reply. "You're both dumb, you know that?"
"Well yeah, but you're in this group as well, so you are too." Chiyo replied confidently.
Kaori began to rebuttal as the trio walked past a window to their lockers. Looking outside at the city, Amaya saw the green haired boy sitting by the koi pond feeding the fish. Internally she was excited, she pounded on the window to get his attention and waved. When he looked up at her, she saw his eyes widen in fear. Ah shit, he's gonna run again. She thought as she took off down the hall.
Kaori yelled after her, "Amaya! Where are you going?"
Amaya yelled back, "Einstein! I'll meet you guys out front!"
Running down the stairs and completely skipping the last flight with her wings, Amaya ran out to the fishpond only to see the boy gone. All that was left were a few drops of water on the concrete edge and some fish food floating as the koi came to feed on it. Amaya sat down and groaned, "At this point I'm pretty sure that kid wants nothing to do with me. Maybe I should just give up."
"Why are we giving up now?" Amaya raised her head as she heard Kaori's voice approaching to see the girl in question walking towards her with Chiyo in tow.
"I don't think Einstein wants anything to do with me, that's why."
Chiyo reached out her hands and pulled Amaya up into a standing position and gave her a hug. "You tried; you can't always force an apology you know."
"I know, Chiyo, thanks. I appreciate you." Amaya said as they separated from the hug. Kaori handed Amaya her bag from her locker. "Thanks for grabbing my stuff, Kaori."
"Mhm."
"Ooooo, how about instead of studying we get our hair and nails done?" Chiyo suggested, "We can study more tomorrow, we have to get rid of the big sad right now with some self-care."
"Chiyo, I'm not sad…"
"I said self-care, Amaya!"
Kaori burst out laughing, "You know what, I'm okay with that. Let's go treat ourselves, we're still stopping for my bubble tea though."
"You know what, yeah. I've been thinking about changing out my dreads for some braids for a while now anyway, maybe put some hair beads on some of them."
"That sounds cool, do you have any pictures?" Kaori asked.
"Actually yeah," Amaya pulled out her phone and pulled up some pictures. "I'm thinking about some fulani braids, maybe a little bit of color at the ends. Kinda like how your tentacles go from purple to pink at the tips, Chiyo. I don't know what color to do though."
"Well, we'll figure it out when we get there." Chiyo replied as she hooked her arms through her friends' arms. "Now, onward to tea and self-care adventures!"
Not really having much of a choice in the matter, the other two allowed themselves to be dragged to the mall by Chiyo. Amaya pulled out her phone to send her parents a quick text in the family chat:
A: Hey guys, the girls and I are gonna go to the mall if that's okay. Had kind of a weird day and I need to take my mind off things, I'll tell you about it when I get home. I love you!
D: It's a little busy here tonight so if I don't reply more, I'm sorry. Be safe, I love you.
M: Oh, okay, I'm sorry you had a bad day Amaya. Have fun, tell Chiyo and Kaori I said hi, I love you too.
"Alright, Mom and Dad know I'm gonna be with you two, so I'm set for a while, also they say hi." Chiyo and Kaori smiled at her as the three of them walked arm in arm off to the train station.
Passing through the crowded streets the girls talked about what they wanted to do first. “Listen, I don’t know about you guys, but I want to get my bubble tea first. I want something to drink while we do our nails.” Kaori said as they passed a tea shop. Amaya and Chiyo agreed as they were starting to get a little thirsty as well.
Finally arriving at the train station, the girls hopped on a train and headed off to the mall. They sat there and spoke quietly about their upcoming science project as the city passed them by. The glass facades of the buildings sparkled as the sunlight bounced between them. At one point, a group of boys approached them with two of the boys gently nudging the third one forward.
The nervous boy ended up in front of Kaori. “H-Hi, I was w-wondering if I could get your number and the six of us c-could hang out,” the boy managed to stutter out. Amaya, Chiyo, and Kaori looked behind the timid boy to see his two other friends shyly glancing at them.
“I’m sorry, I’m not interested in seeing anyone at the moment, but you’re more than welcome to come hang out with us. We’re heading to the mall to get our hair and nails done.”
The three boys politely declined their offer at that point which the girls had expected to happen. After the boys walked back to their train car, Amaya sighed and said, "They're so easy to manipulate sometimes."
Chiyo nodded in agreement, "Nails and hair, something boys will never understand."
With the boys being the only excitement on the train ride, the rest of the journey was uneventful. Arriving at the station, they stood up and waited for the doors to open before hopping off. The train station was located underneath Mustafu Mall, so thankfully they didn't have to walk far.
Riding up the escalator, Amaya watched as Kaori's eyes went from their usual neutral expression to one the size of dinner plates. Following her friend's line of sight, Amaya saw the bubble tea place in the food court. As soon as they reached the top of the escalator, Kaori was gone faster than either of them could blink.
"Naturally she's only athletic for tea." Chiyo giggled as she and Amaya waited for Kaori to return.
A few minutes later, Amaya smirked as she watched Kaori smile with content as she took a sip of her tea. "You happy now that you have your drink?" Amaya asked her friend.
"Shut up, you know how I am about my bubble tea." Kaori gave a curt reply so she could get back to her drink.
"Yeah, yeah, you'll kill someone without it, we know." Chiyo replied, sticking out her tongue. Kaori squinted back silently, straw still in her mouth.
"Come on you two, quit playing around, we've got money to spend." Amaya grinned as she pulled her wallet out of her backpack. "Momma wants her nails done."
The girls made their way over to the nail salon and started looking at the color and design options. After their decisions were made, the girls each sat at a nail technician and talked with them and each other while the technicians worked. Amaya ended up picking out some short stiletto nails with a matte black to white ombre. Kaori went with some simple yet always in style French tips, and Chiyo decided to pick out some fluorescent neon green gel polish.
Amaya covered her eyes after they were all done, "Oh my God, Chiyo, those are so bright. I wish I had sunglasses to protect my eyes. Oh wait, I do." Amaya grinned and activated part of her Implosion quirk and closed her eyes. Once she reopened them, gone were her intense blue eyes, replaced with empty black orbs.
Chiyo cringed, "Ew, stop that's scary, you know I hate that." She whined while Amaya and Kaori laughed.
Undoing her quirk Amaya replied, "I'm just kidding, Chiyo, but seriously, those are really bright."
Chiyo shrugged, "Bright is good, nothing bad is ever brightly colored."
Kaori started but Amaya shut her down and whispered, "Let's let her have this one. She doesn't need to know about the poison dart frogs yet."
Kaori nodded silently in understanding. "Are we going to do our hair right away or walk around for a bit?"
"Well, I want to walk around, but doing braids takes forever so I should probably go do my hair now." Amaya replied, "But you guys can go walk around if you want."
"And have fun without you?" Chiyo asked, "Never, besides, I don't have hair so I can do either or."
"Well off to the hair salon then," Kaori exclaimed after making the deciding vote.
Walking into the salon, the trio was greeted by a friendly stylist who asked Kaori and Amaya what they wanted done. After hearing what the two girls wanted, she guided them each to a different stylist who could assist them. Kaori was in and out of her chair relatively quickly. Amaya however was in her chair for a few hours. It was a good thing her stylist had the extra arms to help, otherwise the group would've been at the mall much much longer.
"God, I needed that after today, thanks for the idea, Chiyo." Amaya said after they finished getting their hair done. "Kaori, I love your new look. It looks really cute on you!"
Chiyo chimed in, "Yeah! But what made you do such a drastic change?"
Kaori shrugged, "I don't know, just felt like trying something new, you know? It feels kind of nice not to have all that long hair down to my waist anymore, I don't know how you do it Amaya."
Amaya shrugged, "I don't know man, I've never liked my hair short. Have a hard time feeling myself."
Chiyo nodded, "I get that, it's also why I like mine short too. That and because they're just easier to manage," she said as she wiggled her tentacles.
"You guys really like it though?" Kaori asked her friends.
"Of course!" They both exclaimed.
"I never expected you to go for a pixie cut like that, but you're totally killing it, and I love how it accentuates your ears. We never really get to see them, and they look amazing with those ear cuffs on, when did you get them?" Amaya told Kaori as if this was common knowledge.
Kaori smiled at the compliments as she touched the tips of her pointed ears, "Thank you. I actually got them a couple weeks ago, I wanted to see how gold looked over stainless steel."
"Well, I think it looks good on you," Chiyo replied. "Are you ever going to actually pierce your ears though?"
Kaori shrugged, "Maybe, but enough about me. What about your hair, Amaya? Those braids and the magenta ombre at the ends look amazing, especially with those gold cuffs spread throughout."
Amaya grinned as Chiyo rapidly nodded in agreement with Kaori. "Thanks guys, I felt like the metal beads would've gotten too heavy since they're more solid than the braid cuffs are."
Kaori nodded, "Yeah, I suppose that makes sense."
The girls started heading back towards the train station, their missions complete for the day. "Hey guys, I'm gonna take the long way home today if that's okay with you." Amaya said to her friends.
"You okay?" Kaori asked.
"Yeah, I'm good I promise, just wanna take some time and live in the music, you know?"
The other two girls grinned, knowing how much music meant to their friend. "Oh of course, don't let us stop you." Kaori laughed as she hugged her, "Bye, Amaya, see you tomorrow."
Amaya replied, "Bye, Kaori! Bye, Chiyo! I'll text you guys when I get home."
"Bye, Amaya!" Chiyo exclaimed with a grin as she too hugged Amaya.
Amaya split off from her friends, waving goodbye to them before heading towards the mall's entrance. I really do have the best friends.
Every so often Amaya would skip the train and walk home. It added an extra hour to her trip, but she liked some alone time as well on occasion. She used the time to let her thoughts wander and to get lost in the music. Putting in her earbuds, Amaya began scrolling through her music before hitting shuffle, unable to pick one herself.
Amaya felt the groove and funky feel of the guitar hit her ears as the drums began to pound. "Oh, hell yeah, Avatar is always good." She began to pat her leg to the beat as she walked. I should probably let Mom know I'm walking, I'll text Dad when I get home, I don't want to disturb his work. She pulled out her phone and sent her a quick text.
A: Hey, just a heads up I took the long way home today.
M: Alright, be safe, dinner will be just about done when you get here.
Putting her phone away she absorbed the music as she walked, taking in the scenery, the singer’s voice filling her ears:
Once upon a highway
Lost among the lights of neon tribes
I used to be apart of you
You used me and I used you too
You took me to the desert
Desecrated, desperate prey, oh yeah
Amaya began dancing around and bobbing her head along since no one was around. When she was alone, she could really let the music take her without having to worry about bumping into someone. "Man, I wish I was alive when these guys were putting out music. I bet their shows were a blast." She said pulling out her phone again to look at the band's information. The singer looked like a crazy circus ringmaster with his outfit and black and white Joker face paint. The rest of the band was wearing matching outfits to follow their demented leader.
Amaya was born way too late to truly enjoy the type of music she loved. All the bands she really liked had been gone for at least 150 years or more. Come on Kaori, invent time travel for your best friend. She thought as she tried to send her wishes to Kaori telepathically. The song reaching its chorus, the singer belted out:
I look up to the sky
But all I see is the dirt I’m buried in
Lonely lays the longing
I’m so far away from the world that buried me
Amaya moved her way across the bridge, the song’s riff directing her movements. As the guitar solo came on. Eventually the song ended, and she decided to keep listening to Avatar by putting on Dance Devil Dance. The song began blasting its guttural vocals into her ears. The sun started to set as the devil danced along to her music, the birds singing their final songs before they too turned in for the evening. As Amaya walked along a hedge, she began kicking a rock along the path trying to time it to the beat.
Einstein still sat at the back of her mind; the look of fear frozen on his face. He absolutely believed she was going to hurt him; she could see it. I really need to work on my reactions, even if I'm having a bad day. That's no way to treat someone who already apologized. Kaori and Chiyo were right though, she'd already attempted to apologize a couple times and he clearly wanted nothing to do with her. She just had to move on and accept it.
Finally, after listening to what amounted to an entire album of music, Amaya made it home. Pulling out her phone she texted the group chat the girls were in.
Maya: Hey you two, just wanted to let you know I'm home.
Chi-Chi: Me too lol
Ori: I know, I watched you walking down the street.
Amaya looked up at Kaori's window to see her face peeking out from behind her curtains with a grin.
Maya: Stalker.
Opening the door Amaya walked inside and kicked off her shoes. "Mom, Dad, I'm home!" She said as she walked into the living room to set her backpack down by the couch.
Sasaki Adut looked up from her book she was reading in the chair, "Hello dear, your father isn't home yet, but he should be in about a half hour."
"Ah cool, I have to shoot him a quick text that I'm home then."
A: Hey Dad, just got home, wanted to let you know I'm safe.
D: Thank you, Sunshine, I'll be home soon.
Amaya smiled at her father's nickname for her. Apparently, she was always such a smiley, happy baby that she was always brightening his life. Her mom told her that she actually responded to the name Sunshine before she responded to her actual name.
"So, Mom, what're we having for supper?" Amaya asked as she leaned against the wall.
"I was thinking we would have some dishes from back home tonight since it's been a while."
Amaya's eyes lit up and she practically started drooling. She loved when her mom cooked food from her home country. "What kind of dishes?" She asked, the curiosity creeping ever more into her voice.
Adut smiled; glad her daughter loved the foods her family had eaten for generations. "I have some kajaik cooking right now. I also made some karkade to drink and for dessert, some basbousa with moukhbaza."
"Mom, stop, my mouth hurts, it's watering so much." Amaya said, rubbing her jaw. "What's the special occasion?"
Adut shrugged, "You said you had kind of a weird day, I thought this would cheer you up."
Amaya walked forward and hugged her mom from behind the chair, "You're the best, Mom. I'm gonna go upstairs and change and I'll be back down after that."
"All right, I like your hair and nails, they look really good on you."
Amaya beamed at the compliment, "Thanks, Mom!" She replied with an infectious grin. Amaya made her way upstairs to her room and began stripping out of her school uniform while she started looking for something more comfortable.
"Nah, no sweatpants today, not cold enough for that." She continued rummaging until she found a pair of short shorts and an old Black Sabbath t-shirt that was a few sizes too big on her. She might as well not even wear shorts. The shirt hung low enough that it completely obscured the fact that she was actually wearing anything underneath it.
Now that she was in something a bit more comfortable, Amaya made her way back downstairs. Halfway down she heard the front door open and close. "Dad!" She exclaimed, using her wings to skip the rest of the stairs, Amaya launched herself at her father. You could say what you wanted about Amaya, but she was most definitely a daddy's girl.
Suddenly getting tackled by his daughter, Sasaki Kazuo fell back into the wall as he hugged his daughter laughing. "Amaya, calm down, you act like you haven't seen me all day."
Standing up to her full height, Amaya towered over her father, "But I haven't seen you all day? You were gone before I woke up."
"Oh crap, I guess you're right. Well, come back here then." He smiled and opened his arms again for another hug and Amaya reciprocated. Adut rounded the corner and watched the sight with warmth in her heart. Kazuo saw his wife standing there watching them, "Don't just stand there, Adut, I missed you too." He smiled as she walked towards him and the family shared a group hug, poor Kazuo sandwiched between two very tall women.
His wife, Adut was 6'3", while Amaya was 5'11½". Where did that leave Kazuo? He was a measly 5'5¼" tall. All his genetics did for Amaya was make sure she was under 6 feet tall and even that was barely a success. The girl was a spitting image of her mother, except for her eyes and lip stripe. Not that Kazuo cared about being shorter than his wife and daughter, he was happy, they were happy, and that's all that mattered to him.
Separating from the hug, the three of them made their way to the kitchen as Kazuo took off his suit jacket and tie. "How was everyone's day today?" He asked his wife and daughter.
"My day was uneventful," Adut started. "The kitchen was having plumbing work done today so it was shut down. We had a bunch of pre-made sandwiches that we were able to hand out to people on the streets before we left though. After that, I came home, cleaned a little bit and started making food."
Kazuo nodded, "Well that doesn't sound too bad, how about you, Sunshine, how was your day?"
"I had kind of an off day today," Amaya said. "I tripped on the way to school and lost my apple, then I got hit in the neck with something really hard and small out of nowhere. Finally, when I was getting off the train for school, a kid ran into me and knocked me on my butt. I kinda snapped at him and I think I made him cry… I tried a couple times to apologize, but I don't think he wants anything to do with me."
Kazuo rubbed his daughter's shoulder, "Oh sweetheart, I'm sorry that happened to you. Is that why your hair and nails are different? You needed a bit of a pick-me-up?" Amaya nodded in reply and Kazuo continued. "Well, I think they look beautiful, I like the matte color you went with for your nails this time."
Amaya smiled at her father and leaned on his shoulder, "Thanks, Dad."
"So, I'm guessing that's why we're having Sudanese tonight as well?"
Adut nodded, "I thought it might help cheer her up a bit." She turned to her daughter, "You tried to make amends and that's all you could have done. You tried to do the right thing, don't beat yourself up over it. The universe works in mysterious ways sweetheart. Maybe someday the opportunity to make amends will present itself. Just don't think too hard about it until that day comes, okay? You're a sweet girl, everyone makes mistakes."
"Thanks, Mom and Dad, you guys always know how to make things better."
Soon the food was done, and they all sat down to eat. Kazuo turned on the television and switched it over to the news. It was showing aerial footage of a villain that had attacked a kid earlier today. Suddenly a familiar shock of green hair appeared on the screen. Amaya spit out her food and coughed, "Holy shit!"
"Amaya! Your mother just cleaned today!" Wiping her mouth, "I'm sorry, Dad, but that's that kid I was telling you guys about earlier!"
"Who, that blonde one?" Adut asked turning to watch the screen now.
"No, he's a major ass with baby dick energy. I mean the skinny little asparagus there." Amaya pointed at Einstein who at that moment decided to duck the barrier and rush the villain who appeared to be made of some sort of slime. The family just watched open mouthed in shock as the scene on television played out.
Einstein threw his backpack at the villain and then jumped at them, punching him in the face. The villain reeled back, holding his face with both hands as he dropped Bakugo. The villain began swinging back and forth wildly in an attempt to get his hostage back. Suddenly, All Might landed between the boys and the villain. Throwing a single punch, All Might blew the villain into tiny pieces of sludge that flew all over the place coating everything. Soon after All Might stood up from his pose, it began to rain, his punch changing the weather.
The HNN anchor finished the segment by saying, "Both children escaped the vicious attack with only minor scrapes and bruises. The villain was apprehended and taken into police custody where he will be transferred to Tartarus while he awaits trial."
"Oh my God." Amaya spoke softly.
"What?" Adut asked her daughter.
"That doesn't even seem like the same kid I saw this morning. He charged a villain head on and yet he ran away from me."
Kazuo spoke up now, "Maybe he was trying to save his friend?"
Amaya shook her head, "No, that kid bullies him a lot I guess."
"Oh…" Kazuo replied. "Well… maybe he did something because the heroes weren't. Who knows, regardless he's lucky to be alive."
Amaya nodded, deep in thought about Einstein and what she thought she knew. "Yeah, lucky." She murmured.
Notes:
So the thing about Sasaki's septum and ear piercings and Indian food is based on a real thing. I did that myself when I was with a group of friends one night. We went out to a popular local Chinese buffet and after I was good and full I looked at them and I was like, "Let's go get piercings. I want my septum done." This was my first piercing ever, so I was like I wanted something other than my ears or nostril. Went and got it done, didn't feel a thing until the next morning when it was sore. Did the exact same thing a year and a half later with my ears and those actually hurt, exact same restaurant too. I don't know, there was just something about that restaurant that made me wanna modify my body. I actually went and ate there after a couple of my tattoos as well.
Continuing with Horikoshi's tradition of naming locations after things from Star Wars, I named Kashi Park after the Wookiee homeworld of Kashyyyk.
Kajaik: A fish stew popular in South Sudan.
Karkade: A type of hibiscus tea served hot or cold, has a tart cranberry-like taste.
Basbousa: A sweet, syrup-soaked semolina cake originating from Egypt.
Moukhbaza: A mashed banana paste made with ripened bananas, lemon juice, and toasted chili peppers.Music for this chapter:
