Work Text:

Thalassophobia : Fear of the depths of the sea

There was a time when Shin had loved the sea in all its forms. Memories of him as a child were linked to the days spent by the sea with his family with him sitting on a donut with his mother's hat, which covered his head and let himself be rocked by the waves of the sea.

The few memories associated with his father when he had taught him to swim and dive underwater to see fish and other marine creatures were linked to the sea.

But now he had developed a form of Thalassophobia towards the sea and the water, towards its so deep and dark depths.

As dark as Suiko's true nature.

Such a deep and evil nature he inherits from Arago and that Kaosu had entrusted to him without revealing the truth.

And sometimes he felt those depths singing like the sirens singing to Ulysses, who wanted to attract him to release Suiko's real nature.

He refused and surfaced, letting his heart fill with fears and doubts about his yoroi.

After all, water has always been terribly ambiguous.

He was capable of giving life, but also death to those who dare to underestimate his real strength.

Even the sailors said it, never underestimate the sea even when it appears calm to you because you never know what danger you may encounter.

So it was Suiko who seemed to be waiting for the moment when she could take over him and do what she really wanted.

Ed was terrified that the yoroi could hurt those he loved and thought he was protecting by using that power.

He was water capable of dominating the other elements with his strength, which he knew how to expertly hide in his calm and in her transparency.

The water extinguished the fire.

It consumed the earth and weakened it, even the hardest of rocks

Its depths choked even the light that tries to dive into it.

Without water, the oxygen that makes up the atmosphere would not have formed.

That force that called him and tried to drag him towards the depths that caused him nightmares.

Nightmares in which he saw Suiko follow her nature and through her body strike and mortally wound his friends.

He saw them floating in a pool of water dyed the red color of their blood and him screaming, but Suiko kept killing.

Instinctively she threw Suiko's sphere away from him, which continued to glow with an eerie blue light.

He no longer had faith in Suiko or in the water or desire to continue fighting as samurai Troopers.

After all, there was still a need to fight, right? Arago died and after the rescue of Seiji New York there were no more threats.

Questions and pleas raced through Shin's mind as he watched Suiko's ball slowly roll away from him.

Is theTrue, that there was no need to wear yoroi anymore?

It is true?

Tell me it's true!

No one came with an answer and Shin felt a growing fear of an element that he once loved, but that his darkness had shown his real ambiguous nature of him.

And he had taken away the faith in what was his duty to him as a samurai.

Notes:

This among the old fanfics is the one I'm most uncertain about whether to put it or not, but after losing a Devil May cry fanfic that I cared so much I decided to save this one too.
I have always considered water as the strongest natural element, as opposed to fire which I consider the weakest. I also wrote an old fanfic about fire.
