He awoke to soft whimpers and cries.
He looked to his side, and saw her. His Rayla. Crying.
“Rayla?” Callum asked.
“W-wh..” Rayla couldn’t finish her sentence. She was to scared, and sad. This broke Callum’s heart.
“Ray, what’s wrong?” Callum asked. He leant on his side, and put a hand on her shoulder.
“V-Viren.” Rayla gasped out with all her might. She started to sob more after she said Viren. Callum knew Viren hurt Rayla, and he would never ever, forgive him for that.
Rayla turned to her side to face him, and covered her face in shame. She didn’t want him to see her like this. Never.
Callum gently wrapped his hands around her waist, and held her close. He would never let her go.
“What’s wrong, Rayla?” Callum asked. He felt horrible, knowing that she was crying more than he ever saw her cry. It was heartbreaking.
“I—I.. he.. I had a nightmare.” Rayla sobbed tearfully and quietly.
“Ok, go on.” Callum told her.
“He said that he’d.. take everyone away from me. He showed that he took Runaan, and ma parents. There wasn’t a scratch on them. They were.. in this ice thing, just, dead looking. But.. then there was you. Callum.. y-you.. he didn’t put you in ice.. I was held back.. and he lifted you by the neck and.. and..” She covered her face again, hoping he got the picture, which he did.
”I tried to get to you, but I couldn’t.” Rayla said in the most scared, sad, and confused tone of voice Callum ever heard.
She started sobbing again, but harder. She buried her face in his shoulder, he could feel the tears staining his shirt. Callum lay there, with furious, and shocked eyes. He couldn’t believe Viren, that little snake, was making his love feel like this.
Callum pulled Rayla closer to him.
“Shhh.. it’s ok, I’m here.” He whispered softly into her ear.
Callum rested her forehead against hers, and held her close, just trying to calm her down.
They lay there for a few minutes, Callum started rubbing her back, and whispering comforting things to her.
Rayla sniffed and pulled away, and looked at him, with soft.
Callum smiled, and started kissing her cheeks where there were dried tear stains.
“Dummy.” Rayla chuckled tearfully.
Callum continued kissing her face, and Rayla eventually started to feel better.
Callum pulled away, and looked at Rayla. She was better now, she was smiling, giggling. His heart fluttered.
Callum carressed her cheek, and pulled her in for a soft kiss.
He pulled back, and saw Rayla, blushing and smiling, with wet eyes.
He smiled back, and adjusted his hands and pulled her as close as he could to him.
Her head was under his chin, providing a pillow for Callum’s head, and Rayla was also resting on his shoulder.
Rayla pulled back, and kissed his cheek.
“Yer not going to sleep without a kiss on the face of yer own, Mister Mage.” Rayla murmured in a sleepy tone. She then put her head back to where it was.
Callum chuckled, and kissed her head softly. Rayla sighed happily, and nuzzled her head under his chin.
“Goodnight, my love.” Callum said sweetly and tiredly.
“Goodnight cal.” She yawned.
“I love you.” They both said to each other at the same time.
They then drifted off to sleep, peacefully, knowing they could always count on each other.
